The website picture were close enough to be considered accurate. But that's where the similarities ended. The room was "clean" but dirty, dingy, poorly lit, mismatched lighting, questionable cleanliness in the bathroom area, and the cabinets in the main room were sticky. To top it off, the mattress had what I'm guessing was a rubber sheet under the bedding "for easy cleaning" as it squeaked when I sat on it and made noise throughout the night. I ended up shortening my stay to avoid cancelation fees, but as soon as I could, I was out of there. The other clientele was scary and seemed like they were actually living there. I will not be returning and would not recommend.

The property was so bad that we didn’t even stay there. We decided to just leave right after checking in. The rugs, chairs and sheets were all torn. The sink and surrounding area had weird colors and odors. The property felt unsafe.

All in all, it wasn't a bad stay. Getting into the hotel was a little challenging because of the traffic pattern, but I caught on quickly. The AC in the room didn't work. The bed was a little softer than I like but it was plenty comfortable. The water pressure was very good. The water temperature was adequate. Took a little bit for hot water, but still good. The toiletries were very nice. Worked well and smelled great. The best part of the hotel was the staff! They were absolutely exceptional. Would stay again.

This place was a mess. Customers before me came back shortly after booking due to dirty rooms and cockroaches. My room was supposed to be a non smoking room, but I could smell cigarettes as soon as I opened the door. The room was also messy and trash was left behind. Obviously no cleaning was done. I opted out and stayed elsewhere. They even offered my room to the next guest knowing the condition it was in.

I booked the room through Expedia and the night we arrived they said they had no reservations under my name; I called Expedia and they said otherwise. Long story short, we ended up getting a different room than what I booked and stayed there only because we had no choice and it was late at night. The area/people staying there are also very sketchy, one of the days the police and ambulance were there to pick up a drug addict who had overdosed. This is by far the worst hotel experience I've ever had! Do yourself a favor and pay a few dollars more to stay somewhere else.

I checked in last night (June 5th), they gave us a room that had furniture on the bed, and carpet was wet. We went to the lobby and they exchanged the room to room #103.  I was so tired and went straight to sleep. Got up in the morning, carpet was wet and sticky, sink is molded, blow dryer doesn’t work (also molded on the side). While brushing my teeth I threw up from feeling so gross. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at any hotel .  I would really appreciate a refund on the room.  I took pictures and videos of it all.  I went to the lobby and spoke to Angel about it.

Rooms are well kept up though some renovation is helpful. Staff does their very best. AC is good but parking can be tight and folks manage it fairly well. Surroundings can be better as some vagrants occasionally use the parking lot for partying but we all leave each other alone and keep the environment safe and respectful. After dozens of stays at this place I give it an "A" for cost value for accommodations. The staff can't be held accountable for the government's failures in the community. Overall grade with all things considered is a B-.

Stayed only two nights even though I paid for three.. the room was and felt humid, shower function to a level in which I needed to hurry due to bathtub filling of water rapidly without draining fast. But what bothered me the most is that the cleaning crew was not aware of my nights and didn't clean my room until pm hours in which I had returned from work and feeling tired. I had the need to stay those nights away from home and simply couldn't. Also to keep things even more uncomfortable this hotel gives special accommodation services to homeless people and drug addicts.

I selected the hotel based on good reviews but I was disappointed. The carpet was so dirty that it was sticky, you can’t walk around without shoes. There were multiple gnats as well as a couple roaches. We had prepaid and not able to get a refund so we basically just used the room to sleep and shower. We stayed 5 nights and every evening I had to have my room key redone every day because it stopped working. I usually don’t leave reviews but trying to help others avoid the same mistake I made.

Room was clean, carpet and furniture very outdated and old. Has a muggy smell everytime you walk into room. No microwave or hairdryer in room. I found this very inconvenient. You have to ask for a hairdryer, but their was none available for me to use. Staff wasn't friendly. Very close to freeway so you hear all the traffic all night long.

I have enjoyed countless stays @ Heritage Inn La Mesa going as far back as a decade. It is by far, the best value in San Diego County. With room rates consistently lower than any others in this category coupled with the lowest deposit (due at check-in n fully refundable) at just $60. It has free parking, WiFi, a pool n hot tub, is conveniently located right off the I8 @ Fletcher Parkway, about a 20 minute drive from SD International Airport and a large local mall just a few blocks away. Most SD attractions are a 15-20 minute drive like Balboa Park featuring our First Class Museums & the Old Globe as well as the SD World Famous Zoo. Petco Park & Gaslamp District are in DT near the Airport . Sea World is about 25 minutes away. The property is safe n well lit at night. Family friendly with Laundry Facilities & Vending Machines on property. Rooms are all easily accessible thru outside corridors over 4 floors in two building that connect with a convenient elevator and multiple access stairwells. The rooms are very large with either 1 King or 2 Queen sized beds. The King sized rooms also have a table n two chairs n usually 2 nightstands. Both configurations have a large Dresser/Desk banquet with wall mounted LED TV's. Plenty of Cable Channels to choose from n remote will be on the nightstand with telephone. All rooms have a large vanity with lots of counter space n mirror. Wall mounted Luggage Rack/Hanging clothes are hidden behind a small wall in the vanity area. Fridge is under counter of vanity n is double the size of a "mini" with freezer that can accommodate 4-5 pints of Ice Cream (just make sure to turn it on, knob in the inside to highest setting when u first enter the room. It will take about an hour to be at optimal temp. So hold off on filling it until after u unpack. Microwave is available where Vending Machines adjacent to Office. I'm gonna be honest n blatant about the reality of this property so ur expectations are realistic. This property is an older one that has had some renovations n could definitely benefit from a lot more being upgraded but, for the budget restricted thus the best you can get. U will need to either own (staycationers only) or rent a vehicle, the cost would be equivalent to what a ride share would cost for ur trip from n back to the airport. If it's only a night then u can forego. Being 20 minutes from Airport and most attractions being much closer to the airport, having a vehicle will be essential. Our public transportation/light rail is not effective at getting u to where u need to go without having to do a lot of planning and having lots or extra time to walk to said destinations since most will require lots of walking as well. Just accept this as an added concern with ur budget, that is why this property will be the best value no matter what. The rooms n furniture and fixtures are not new, they will have obvious use and sometimes missing draws or drawers that do not open. Carpets n decor, including lights n bathroom fixtures will not be in perfect condition. The A/C heating units are a mixed lot, some have barely visible button indicators, output blades missing or broken and remotes nowhere to be found (remotes should be in every room, call front desk and have them send on up. Maintenance will deliver and that would be a good time to have him there and check to see if it is in good working condition). Sometimes units will have to be reset due to circuit overload, which can be done on the plug located right next to it. Like the fridge these units are powered off to save electricity so don't automatically assume it's broken, you just need to turn on when u enter.

The water in the bathroom was hot and the shower gel smelled nice. We paid extra for a deluxe double room and received a room on the ground floor next to the hotel's laundry room. The furniture and appliances were old-fashioned and the fan in the bathroom was broken, giving the room a mildewy, musty smell. The living area had a thick carpet throughout, that was wet upon arrival, and because of the humidity in the bathroom, the bathroom door would swell up and lock you in, so someone in the bedroom had to pull it open for you to exit after showering. The air-conditioning helped with the smell but had to run non-stop, which was a bit loud at night. Additionally, our front door key wasn't working and needed to be exchanged, the whirlpool was out of order during our stay and the outlets next to the beds were also broken. The hotel was booked out so we couldn't get another room. Overall, it was a pretty rough stay and I would not do it again.

Very disappointing experience. The room was extremely dirty and had a terrible smell as soon as we walked in. The walls looked very old and damaged, and the restroom was in awful condition and clearly not maintained properly. The overall cleanliness and quality of the hotel were far below expectations. I would not recommend staying here.

first thing i noticed was the amount it cost to stay here and how much hotels.com made on this room. when i got to my room and open the door the smell had a febreeze kinda smell where they may have poured a gallon of it to cover the real oder that came later on in the evening. the room had an appearance that was probably the original furniture from the 70s. floor was stained with dirt traffic , carpet ends were torn and stringy at the door ways. shower and bathroom were worn, there was a broken chair in the shower. toilet was the newest thing there. bed sheets and towels were clean and smelled good. bed was pretty old and lumpy. reminded me of old school hotel bed, probably original.

This place needs to be updated bad, no hair dryer AC broken parts/open where a child can put their hand in. TV is so small upgrade needed outlets not all work, no microwave. I requested a downstairs room because if my handicap i got a 3rd floor room, hard to go up stairs.

Location did not feel safe. The photos on the website are enhanced. We drove into the parking lot and there was yellow caution tape across the entrance to one side of the front stairs, yellow tape in the pool area, the office counter is falling apart with clear packing tape, lighting in the bathroom was dim, sketchy people in the parking lot, and the furniture was probably there since day one. The vacancy sign was cracked and falling apart, but in the photo online it must have been photoshopped. Worried about our car but at least the lighting in the front parking lot was decent. First and last stay for us!!

They don't get things fixed fast enough after they brake down, ex: front stair case which now their down to excessible places to get to your floor because their elevator has been out of service since before we checked in a week ago.

I have being staying at this hotel for over a year, and frankly it has been a very good experience until last weekend checking was kind of long, it seems to me that the front desk people were stressed out, due to a new manager. I can only say that if the new manager starts to make changes that don't favor the costumers like me that I'm a loyal costumer, I'll just have to find another place, (Note) the staff are very nice people and the front desk are also, it may be just the new manager who may not be the right fit for this place. don't change things that are not broken. Infect make better.

This was the worse hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Staff was rude, room was dirty, soap was empty, I was very disappointed!

This place just is what it is, I think it provides exceptional value. I did feel a little uncomfortable at times but that’s just what happens when a hotel has great value. All in all, the staff took care of me, the cleaners did their jobs, and there was some construction going on too which was a little annoying but it’s good to see that they are making repairs and improvements. I would recommend this place if you need a local spot to stay and know how to keep to yourself. Thank you.

The building looks NOTHING like the pictures, the stairs were under construction and NOT blocked off nor did they warn us about the building being “under repairs” the place looks like it’s falling apart and the room was disgusting and dirty the carpet was damp and dirty. There was a bug crawling on the headboard of the bed my son was sleeping on and there were roaches in the bathroom. It was a terrifying experience. Never again will I book here for a stay.

They were decent overall and had parking available, but the property felt outdated and was starting to fall apart. The staff also seemed unaware of my booking, likely due to some employees lacking experience. Had air conditioning, there was no body wash as if others took it.Room smelled like cigarettes. The people under were bothered since my son was running being on the fourth floor with 2 boys under 3 years was very uncomfortable.

The woman who checked us in was very friendly. For being put in a Non-smoking room it reeked of cigarette smoke. We had to crank the air to get rid of the smell.

This hotel was beneath our standards and we had to find a different hotel. Occupant were yelling, swearing and some appeared to be on drugs. The staff did there best but we had to find a different hotel.

I booked 3 days, 4 nights but stayed 0 nights and 1 day. Stairs under construction, sketchy vibes and felt unsafe.

We had joined rooms and in both our rooms the refrigerators didnt work when we tried to call maintenance from our phone the phone didnt work so we had to use the other room. Then our room smelled sooooooooooooooo bad i mean terrible. Like wet rug, stinky old cheesey feet. Turns out there was a pair of dirty socks left behind the refrigerator. Makes me question hygiene. Also one of the beds in the other room was broken, BIG lump in the middle.

Definitely the furniture is showing its age. Daily housekeeping and coming back to freshly made bed was a plus. Parking was sufficient and could get a place near my room every time.

Room was clean…but all the buttons on the air conditioner were broke, tried to figure it out and couldn’t. It was pretty hot in the room even for the San Diego area and then at some point in the middle of the night it turned on. The area wasn’t awful but the parking wasn’t good. The building itself could use some upgrades.

I am pretty sure there were Blood stains on the carpet. The only reason I stayed was I was exhausted from a long drive and hat to get up at 5am so I didnt look for another hotel.

If you need a quick/cheap room? This place will do. They have smoking rooms as well which is rare, and they are 420 friendly.

The property was old & did not look like the pictures. The floor & bathtub were stained & there was no carpet or rugs. I tried to cancel my reservation because I had a death in the family, but Expedia would not recognize my itinerary number When I called their number I was on hold for over an hour & they never picked up. I will NEVER book with Expedia again.

The location is bad. It is practically on the off-ramp of the freeway. Not kidding! My room did not appear to be clean at first, but I noticed a lot of the spots were really just chips in the enamel and the counter, and burn marks. But it was clean. Unfortunately, one of the beds was unacceptable. It was like laying in a bowl. We asked maintenance if they could put a board or something to firm up the mattress, but they didn't have anything. Tried to move us to a different room, but upon opening the door, bugs scattered. So we had no choice but to stay in the first room because they were otherwise sold out. Reception and site said they would give us a discount, but when I called back, I left my number, and the manager has not called me back.

Because of the ruthless housekeepers continual knocking barking dogs I knew I had paid for that day but just to be sure I booked it a second time in haste. My dogs got to eat good grass and it was tall and clean and my dogs I let off leash and they ran circles and had fun getting lost in taller than them grass. The nice landscaper even mowed a lot more down expanding their play area. The maintenance are very nice friendly even at my vicious service dog was sweet. The housekeeper was a dog person too. So that was nice. Good price sometimes.

It was nice, the room was clean the bathroom could use. Some touch ups. Only complaints are there’s no accessible outlets, only ones being near the bathroom. Also my AC didn’t have grates so it didn’t really blow air upwards it all got thrown to one mattress which sucked because I was on the other one. And the last thing is a bunch of fruit flies randomly kept popping up. Besides those 3 complaints everything else was fine.

First of all, the entrance was hard to find. Its location was weird, like in between of highway junctions, and I had to turn into small roads under the highways to get in otherwise, I would have missed it. The first moment we walked into the lobby we could smell weed and smoke. The staff is old but nice. However, when my friend and I checked the first room we got, it smelled stinky, like sweet and musty, very weird smell I had never experienced before, to the point that I couldn't bear it. We switched the room 2 times, and that smell remained. We even aired the room out for about 20 minutes but it didn't help us. My friend felt dizzy while airing the room out. Pretty sure this smell is in all place in the building. We asked to check out since day one and were overcharged than the rate we paid per night via Expedia. I was definitely worried about getting bed bugs after more research on the smell source.

There was a man in the laundry area stripping their clothes off, stairs were closed off on one side, the elevator had a man on a bike smoking in front of the elevator door blocking its use. Due to the conditions, I had to leave and did not stay the night.

The person behind the counter was wonderful. The property is old, but there is effort to keep it up. It does not feel safe. I witnessed multiple drug deals. After bringing my things upstairs, there were dirty palm prints on the back of the black car from where someone tried to open the trunk. This place seems like a long-term hotel for people on government aid. It smelled like homeless people in drugs. The room was clean, even though it was ran down. There was only one microwave for the whole building. Very awkward. I would avoid this place at all costs.

Our AC was not working and asked if we could have someone fix it for us. The woman at front desk said just play with the settings which we had done already. We asked for a new room and declined. I was told by a different hotel that hotels cannot rent it a room if the AC is not working because they could be fined for that!!!!! My family and I have stayed at Heritage Inn several times and never really had a bad experience. There has been a couple times the AC needs resetting and we let front desk know and take care of it quickly. Other times it smells a lot like cigarettes when we requested non smoking and just as quick they accommodate my family and I. But just recently my husband and I have been checked in by an older woman with brunette hair a bit hefty and such horrible attitude. We ask her for hot water after the office was closed aca she said no because the door was closed. When everyone else always give us hot water…. Other than that everyone else is really nice and try to work something out…

Room 307 was ABSOLUTELY DESGUSTING!!! It had roaches, the AC didnt work right and also had the vent cover missing... The carpet was saturated with pet urine. When I asked for a different room, they told me there wasnt any available. Meanwhile the parking lot had maybe 10 cars. The blackout curtain worked great though.

Awful.... if i could give zero stars i would. Check in took FOREVER. The one guy working the desk was super sweet and doing the best he could with the line going out the door. The lady there helping him just up and left him there on his own. Took almost an hour to check in. Room was dirty and smelled awful. Dirt and hair in the bathtub. Carpet made our feet dirty. Then the AC leaked over night, saturating the entire carpet. My daughter slipped on it and fell and hurt her hip and knee. The place then smelled strongly of mildew. When telling the front desk, they couldn't have cared less. No apology, refused any reimbursement of any kind. Will never ever go here again.

Convenient location for my family and business in La Mesa. Nice pool and hot tub and good laundry accommodations too. Lots of great shopping and services nearby as well.

I will never book a reservation threw Expedia again ever in life! This was the worst experience ever. So I ended up using my affirm to book my room threw Expedia, I booked my room for four days which came out to be almost 400.00 dollars that I was approved by threw my affirm account. I get to the motel heritage inn in La Mesa CA and the clerk tells me that I have no reservations in the system when clearly I have my loan ID number that I now have to pay back to affirm when I didn't stay one night in my room! Everything is a complete scam! It was booked from August 4 threw August 8th 2025 which is today but yet instead I had to sleep in my car in almost 100° degrees weather while trying to work and maintain and continue to function and still have to pay this loan back to affirm so that doesn't get ruined. So discussed!!!!!!

Pictures are very different from reality, that’s no a friendly family hotel, there were people drinking and smoking all over the place, men doing mechanic work in the parking lot, homeless people also in the premises, elevator had wet floor and looked unsafe, the room was even worse, blankets had cigarette burns, bathroom looked disgusting, roaches and who knows what else on the floor and walls, manager was unprofessional, multiple people complained while I was in the office about the roaches and the keys not working, couldn’t believe it was that bad.

Ive been in worse. like a hotel that time forgot. Nestled back beyond the trees, with only one way onto the property. Somehow a fwy grew around it, and you can hear it. Loudly. All the time. Tub had a huge crack in it. I had to adjust the seat, since it was loose. Sketchy people coming and going at weird times. Shabby, It is what is. Left a day early.

Check in was a 30 minute wait in line. The property is filthy, run down cars everywhere. Booze trash in parking spots, stairs fenced off with caution tape. Every thing is very run down and dirty. The shower head leaking everywhere, bathtub so old I don’t even wanna shower. We slept on top of the blankets. Never again!

We were late checking in and tried to call and email but got no response. When we finally arrived at 10pm, there was only outdoor check in. Our room had a dryer fan going full blast on the toilet and it was wrapped in the shower curtain. There was no bottled water, coffee maker or hair dryer in the room. The refrigerator was turned off and had defrosted. I used towels to dry the refrigerator and turned it on. Thankfully, it did cool down. I believe that the room should not have been put into service.

I’m not sure what process they use for checking people in, but I was 5th in like and it took 1 hour and 25 minutes to get to me and finish my check-in, all while waiting outside in the heat. Anywhere else would have taken 10 minutes. Extremely inconvenient as I had to rush getting ready in my room to get to a dinner reservation I had already made that night. The elevator was disgusting, some sort of dried up liquid saturated the floor, and graffiti all over the walls. The room (non-smoking) had some sort of lingering smell, almost like a heavy amount of chemicals trying to mask some other unpleasant scent. Markings and etchings riddled the furniture, hinges were hanging on by a thread when opening cabinets, toilet seat was barely hanging on with orange stains everywhere, and by the way the hotel is located directly off the MIDDLE of a freeway exit, very dangerous entrance/exit. The “owner” seems to reply to these, but it’s nearly always the same copy and pasted reply, convincing me nothing will actually change about this place. For nearly $200 for a single night, I at least expected decency, but it was anything but that, all starting with the abysmal checkin process. Oh yeah, no blow drier either.

Check in was extremely slow. The first room stunk like cat pee and couldn't be used. I had to change room. The taps at sink didnt work, barely dripped water. Outlets beside bed needed light switch on so i couldn't power sleep apnea machine or charge phone without beeping lights on. Carpet throughout room was sticky. The room was absolutely horrendous

Not sure how this property ever received 5 stars. This is such an unsafe property that the local police even commented so. My son who traveled with me was not comfortable walking in the parking lot as he was greeted and propositioned by a prostitute. We didn’t feel safe leaving our belongings in the room. Parking was terrible. Staff was rude. This is a voucher hotel. All of these things should be advertised right up front. Safety needs to be something Expedia should consider highlighting when advertising these hotels.

They charged a $2 / night electricity surcharge—this was a bit deceptive, but not a huge deal, The temperature of the shower was not consistent. It varied from cold to scalding and back again over the course of a few minutes. Adjusting the temperature did not help. The beds were not great, but that was expected. Housekeeping was consistent. My kids enjoyed the pool. The hot tub was not hot. Finally, I didn’t care for the bugs in the room or the mildew smell. I’ve stayed in worse places, but not recently. 2 stars may be generous

Everything was excellent, except the Jacuzzi was out of service. I was really looking forward to getting in it. That was one of reasons I chose the Heritage. The Jacuzzi & the price was reasonable. I hope they have it fixed before our next stay.

This property is a magnet for people with add*ction and housing issues, a popular meeting place for p*mps and pr*stitutes, is filthy, unsafe, run down, poorly lit, disturbing, with sketchy people hanging around the parking lot. The manager LOCKED the office door before my check-in. He took so long checking in and kept adding fees to the people in front of me, I hightailed it out of there and went to a proper chain hotel for safety. This place needs to be removed from travel sites. Scariest place I've ever booked.

What you first realize when you arrive here is that it won’t be so quiet of a stay seeing that you are situated so close to a freeway. The staff is really friendly and accommodating to your needs. So after checking in, I made a beeline to my room, only to notice that the door key was having some difficulty letting me in. After a moment, the key finally worked and it allowed me into a somewhat musky room. Turning on the A/C quickly and letting it run a bit solved that problem. After unpacking and taking my shoes off, I noticed that the carpet floor felt a bit sticky. Glad I brought some sandals. Now that I’ve had some time to settle in, it was time for me to take a shower. The water pressure was decent, but the water temperature wasn’t constant. It went from being just right, to getting a bit cold, then a little hot. Now I do realize that this is my first time there, because it’s not really a bad place to be. You have some places to eat within walking distance and other decent restaurants within a few minutes by car. But I do hope that the next time I decide to go there, that some of my experiences would be addressed. I hope you found this helpful.

Very noisy area, homeless, Amana ac unit malfunction. Couldn't set temperature, no air flow guide vent on it. Bathroom towel rack came off. Had to re install it back in place. No worries, no damage. Homeless black man came knocking on our door early morning asking for money and talking crazy. I'll never stay there again!

Exterior of properyt worn out. Desk staff very slow. Stood in line an hour to get room.

Everything in the room was older than me and the thin walls/badly closed door made it feel like I was sleeping under an overpass.

Hoping Expedia will step in and help. if i could give this place less than one star I would - not only did it have BED BUGS and they REFUSED to fully refund us, the front desk people AND housekeeping were downright NASTY. The front desk manager HUNG UP on us when we asked for TP - we ended up buying our own. I got BIT up and even caught a bed bug under a cup for proof and it still wasn't enough to get refunded without 'talking to the manager' tomorrow. Do NOT stay here - it's disgusting. The health department will be contacted in the morning ASAP. Everyone here should be UNEMPLOYED and this hotel should be CONDEMNED.

This property is like something out of the 1950's with the springs of the mattress poking through the linen. I was able to hear every conversation outside of the room, baggage carts being towed down the sidewalk all times of the night, vehicles on the freeway noise and shower noise in the early morning.

There are not enough power outlets in the room. The power outlets on the bed cabinet are not connected because there is no outlet on the wall. One of the beds is not made up after I got in the room. The staff arranged a worker to make it up later. Really appreciated it. There were roaches in the bathroom.

Upon arrival my husband was informed that there were no rooms available. He had just finished recording and had traveled from Arizona. The man at the front desk said that he could wait to see if someone checks out. This all took place at 9pm. Isn’t check out in the morning. My husband asked for a refund, the man told him to contact Expedia.

Don't waste your time, or money.... save yourself the stress and stay somewhere nicer

It was the worst experience i have ever had and we usually rent hotel once a month , i am currently pregnant and with a toddler and i asked for a room on the first floor and possible close st to the Pool as we were staying there to use the Pool, we got in Second floor we went in the room and turned the air on and a pee smell came out immediately went to the front desk took a whole 20 min to get to us then got sent to a 3rd floor , the pool and spa was so dirty never staying here again

Sketchy and in a dark area. If you want to be sure your car doesn’t get vandalized, park directly in front of the office if it’s available. Strange People walking around at night.

Maybe a sign directing the guests to the entrance. Room was OK. Bathroom was clean. Noisy during early morning hours from traffic on all sides of the hotel. Would stay again for the rates we paid. Very reasonable for what you get
