Perfect location with a private beach and a wonderful swimming pool! We loved having our own fire pit on the beach, which was set up by the super friendly staff, watching the sunset and making s’mores and having great take-out food and pizza conveniently from the hotel. We’ll be back!

Excellent vacation spot, literally right on the ocean. The hotel provides and sets up everything you need for a day on their private beach - chairs, umbrellas, towels, tables etc. Food and drink service is available on the beach as well. Beach staff was very friendly and responsive, and didn't expect tips (for non-food services). Hotel is cashless - everything is charged to your room. Room has a kitchen with plates, utensils etc. Parking is included and plentiful. Common areas were recently updated. Unknown: We didn't make use of services like massage or tennis courts. Bad: Rooms are outdated. Our room, like others', smelled musky and unpleasant. Room quality is an $80/night motel. Two spiders in it too. The beach furniture, also old and worn, are stacked right ON the beach by the hotel. VERY ugly, and hiding the view of the ocean. They could be placed on the side. The umbrellas look cheap and ugly. The first floor rooms are almost uniformly without privacy, due to how the hotel is situated - you'll either be facing the parking lot (like we did) or the beach, with people constantly walking by. If you care about privacy and want to be able to have the blinds open, you'd need a second floor room or stay elsewhere. The restaurant waiters were, with one exception, inattentive and neglectful, and there were hardly any guests there. It felt like they (except one) were bothered by us being there. Club members seem prioritized over guests. Not sure we'd return.

It is in a nice beachfront location. That’s the only positive thing I have to say. The rooms reeked of mildew and were extremely outdated. I had to move rooms 3 separate times because my reservation was for 2 beds and they couldn’t fulfill that. Staff was rude. Numerous hidden fees they fail to disclose.

Amazing beachfront property, fantastic staff, easy parking. The grounds are lovely. Great little kitchens in the bungalows. Only note is that it is an older structure so would recommend nabbing a second floor room for maximum quiet.

Beach was clean and beautiful. Parking was plentiful. Didn't really use any of the amenities due to time constraints. Only issue was the paper thin walls where you could hear every sound your neighbor made and every footstep.

not much. Maybe the fact that you are on the beach. This was one of the most disappointing choices we made in a long time. It all looked nice on site; however, the place was surprisingly not just outdated but also poorly maintained. I felt that the balance between price and value was far from satisfactory. The entire place looks like it was fixed in the 80s at the latest. The carpet floors are worn out, not cleaned, and seem to cover up even worse, old, squeaking floors. The doors are flat, old-fashioned, cheap, and covered with white paint. The bathroom and kitchen are made of the cheapest materials. The furniture is old and stained. Windows are not opening for two reasons: their age and weight, and because they have blocking installations. I couldn't open one single window more than 10 inches, which gave a satisfying feeling. Without the vent system, it felt extremely inconvenient. I thought it was bad luck with one particular room, but after changing three rooms (!) in two days (!), I realized this is an overall quality of the place. The last change seemed to be an upgrade, yet looked the same quality. Unlike the other two rooms, this time it was on the ground floor, and I realized I could hear every sound and every footstep above my head. All three rooms had a parking view from the bedroom, although they were advertised as ocean views. The restaurant was also disappointing. I purchased a Mexican food buffet and, for a $45 (!) fee, had the worst Mexican food, especially the tortillas. They tasted like cheap tortillas from the next-door food store. This trip was dedicated to my wedding anniversary, and I thought it would be a pleasant and relaxing time in a nice environment. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit painful due to room changes and limited dining facilities. I could compromise everything written above if your advertising were more honest. The staff, though, was friendly and understanding. They agreed with our complaints about the condition of the rooms and the inconvenient window regulations.

The hotel and grounds are amazing. Its proximity to the shore is determined by the room you choose. I was impressed with the kindness shown by the staff and the amenities provided.

We rented a BBQ and outdoor table service for dinner the BBQ never was started properly. We called for service several times and it never came. Fortunately we had another party allow us to use their BBQ. In the morning and throughout the day our first floor oceanfront room view was blocked by a stack of chairs and tables. Not really what you pay to have an ocean view of! Overall not the experience I had in the past or expected. A disappointment.

Location and facilities are brilliant - you have numerous tennis courts (can use for free, must reserve in advance as they were generally well booked-up), pickelball, private beach with helpful staff, playground for kids, small golf course, hot tub at the sister hotel next door. We would happily return. The hotel is basically part of a high-end private members club and it's nice being able to enjoy that. The free coffee in the restaurant at 8am overlooking the ocean was perfect. The rooms are somewhat dated and don't match the luxury feel of the rest of the resort. They're comfortable though and we have no complaints, but they are not necesarily as modern as you'd expect if you were paying the same price at a comparible big-name chain hotel. We also felt the place lacked a "lobby" type area you have in most hotels where you could relax with other people in your group and get a drink. The resort has a high-end bar that I had assumed would serve this purpose, however I was booted out with my (sleeping) baby because she was under 21! As this was esentially a family holiday for a group of 6, this was a bit of a negative!

This resort is one that I wish we booked elsewhere. For the price, there are so many better options. The resort is old and in need of renovation. Our room smelled like moth balls and your grandma’s house. It was clean at first but the white comforter had a big stain on it. The smell was very off-putting. Not sure if it was the old furniture, rug, but very musty. The location is nice with the beachfront but you can do so much better for the price. I wanted to check out after one night and go elsewhere but we had only one other night and they were charging me regardless. I called down and asked but they would have penalized me a night so we just stayed. So wished I had booked elsewhere. The website is high bar but does not match the atomsphere. And my biggest recommendation would be to just don’t stay here. Unless you like moth balls smell.

The amenities of the short golf courses, tennis, pickleball, cornhole, and more were a hit. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the beds were super comfy. The only thing to be aware of is that the rooms aren't luxury - though they make for a perfect stay at the beach with family!

Beautiful view of the ocean and on the beach. The 2 bedroom 2 bathroom room was nice .The carpet was worn but clean. The restaurant was over priced but good. If you park on the street there is street cleaning days that will give you a ticket if parked there in the morning. The signs were hard to see at night because they were old and the words on the sign were worn. Luckily I was able to move it before I got a ticket. The lady at the front desk said we could park there but didn’t mention the street cleaning days. Overall the place was really nice. We would go again.

We had a wonderful weekend at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. The location is ideal, the service was wonderful, and we just loved everything about it but the check in. Note to Expedia, the club doesn’t guarantee the bedding arrangement, which is highly unusual. We booked a room with two queen beds, and they initially gave us a room that only had one bed. The club was fully booked that weekend and it was a struggle for them to figure something out for us, but eventually they did and we were given a two bedroom suite. Whew! My step-daughter and are close, but we were not prepared to share a bed. The weekend was almost a bust, but instead turned out perfect!

Monty went out of his way and purchased one for us. We definitely were not expecting that. We spend our summer vacations there and to us, the LBTC is home away from home. The bonfire by the beach and s'mores are the kids’ favorites. We will be applying for membership soon.

First time staying here but won’t be the last. Literally has everything you could want on premise and surrounding. If you don’t want to eat on site walk right up the street and you have so many great food options. I will not be staying anywhere else when visiting San Diego. This place is older but awesome. Their first level Ocean front room was amazing. We stayed in 110 which was literally max 5 steps to the sand. We would open our windows and listen to the waves crashing. I can not say enough great things about this place. If your reading this and trying to decide if you should stay here or any other places in close proximity do yourself a favor and get an ocean front room here it will not disappoint. So many amenities that are worth it.

We arrived in the room only to see an old and dated room with low ceilings and very little light! Came back from dinner so tired and ready for bed but we were on the bottom floor and it seems this hotel does not have insulation and no carpets so we heard every step and lots of jumps of those above us so we called the front desk several times and a few hours later at 11p the noise stopped - ugh. Problem is at 6am the noise started it again - this time it was construction workers talking and walking back and forth past our room. We were never told the hotel was under construction nor was any accommodations made to ensure that we weren’t affected. Needless to say we left early - not ok!!!

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is a dream. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and helpful. The guests are family friendly. We watched dolphin and seals playing right out our window. If La Jolla is the jewel, this is the gem.

It seems the place is mainly for older/members so the guests do not receive a nice welcome from the front desk staff. It felt dismissive towards us.

nice grounds, tennis facilities. pool -- nice in idea, but there was a used diaper on the edge of the kiddie pool, and a suspicious mark at the kiddie pool floor, trash scattered around (packaging from googles and such), so we stayed away. construction on site, our rooms were very outdated, with musty smell, and very poor noise isolation. booked 1 king room and 1 room with two double beds, but upon arrival we got 2 rooms with 2 double beds each, which did not work well for our party of 5. we did not need the kitchenette in our rooms, but would rather have a bigger dining table. overall, great place to come to as a tennis club, will never stay there again as a hotel.

The rooms don't block outdoor noise, especially if you have one of the rooms that face the outside breezeways. You can hear everyone walking past your room, all the luggage being dragged across, etc. But being on the beach was amazing, and I love the option to reserve a beach bonfire space each day if you'd like.

Great location, good staff and grounds. The rooms are just so old and stale feeling. For somepeople that is the charm, but for me it feels like a motel 6, only a bigger room. This place is a jewel if it would spend some money on updating the rooms!

Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. Other dining options just a short walk to La Jolla Shores area. small issue were the small flat pillows that every hotel seems to use these days. Rooms could use some updating but they were clean and well appointed

You definitely pay for the amenities. The hotel is old. Our room was ok. The chain in the door was ripped out of the wall. The wood floor was lifting. The kitchenette was old. The pool water was like warm (it was cold when we went). The selling point is the beach is right there. We tried for 2 days to rent a fire pit and they were all reserved each time. The beds are so uncomfortable 😣. The staff was very nice.

The location is perfect - on the beach, private, with wonderful grounds. The property could use some updating (the decor hasn't changed in a long time) but overall the package is impossible to beat if you want to be directly on the water in La Jolla.
