The room had a strong unpleasant odor from the moment we arrived, making it very uncomfortable to stay. We specifically expected an ocean view, but the room we received did not have one. To make matters worse, the air conditioning was not working properly, which made the room even more unbearable. We chose this hotel for a family vacation, expecting the amenities and quality that were promised, but unfortunately, the reality fell far short. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant and relaxing stay. Very disappointing experience.

This is asking about a beach view which there was none. The room was not entirely clean. The pictures are deceiving so be careful with that as our room was very small for two small women.

We didn't have a beach view, because we chose to stay at the lower level. We enjoy staying here it's close to the beach, access to many local restaurant or a nice stroll on the pier. Plus they are pet friendly!

Wonderful location and great facilities. V friendly and helpful staff. Poor communication prior to arrival regarding check-in. Email messages had gone to spam - better to use booking com messaging. Also, tel no provided on booking.com did not work.

Love the location...the inn is right on Sea Coast Dr. Dining, pubs, shopping & the I.B. pier are seconds away. Best of all, the beach is directly across the street. The location of Los Bungalows has a wonderful Old School beach vibe, whether I was out for an early morning walk, or returning from a late dinner I always felt safe. The lack of bike racks, or somewhere on the property where you can securely lock up a bicycle. Imperial Beach, like most of San Diego is very bike friendly. There are a lot of wonderful trails in the area

The ac was amazinggg and the room was super clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. Beach view was absolutely amazing. I loved watching the sunset. Had an amazing time! Will definitely be coming back again c:

Our room didn't have an ocean view, but was very close to the ocean. It was in walking distance of good restaurants. Very clean and comfortable.

Complicated check in, no office people

The housekeeper was very helpful. We asked twice to have a light bulb replaced in the table lamp in the living room. Despite assurances, the tech never came.

Nice location, clean and cozy. Fire alarm would not stop beeping. I texted the manager and they told me to hold down reset button. Nothing. Manager told me to get new batteries. Really, at that time of night! I tried everything and nothing worked. To make matters worse, when I finally went to bed, I went to turn on the heat and it didn’t work. I froze my ass off. Worst stay ever! I have already reported the issue to Manaus d they said they would have an answer within a week. It’s been 3 weeks now. Shame on you all!

It was very clean and I love that I’m only right across the street from the beach. (Not a big issue but bothersome) the stovetop in the room I was in was very very difficult to use and understand. Most of the time it did not turn on and would not read the pan/pot

The room needs a chair. My stay was 4 nights. Sitting on the bed only was not ideal. When a guest is planning a multiple night stay, providing a more convenient room would meet their needs better.

Room was clean. A little small, but didn’t spend all that much time in the room other than to sleep. View was beautiful. Pier nearby. Great food just down the street. Not far from anything.

Great experience overall with no complaints! The room was very spacious and nice, and was spotless when we arrived. The parking was very conveniently located on property and the location to the beach was perfect, it's literally across the small road across from the property. The dishes, glasses and toiletries provided were sufficient and we definitely plan on staying again. I've noticed some complaints in some reviews about the contactless check in process being tedious and I assure you it's not. They are in communication with you the whole time and as long as you follow the very simple instructions there are absolutely zero issues, and if you need anything at all there is a text number you can reach out to and they are very very responsive. We definitely will return to this property again when visiting this location!

I know some reviews says it doesn’t have heat or ac but it does. It also said it doesn’t have free parking but it does- 1 car per room. The host was great on communication throughout my stay and before. It was in a great neighborhood and right across from the beach! I would definitely recommend staying here and I will be coming back!

Not clean shoddy construction. Screws in window frame for towels no counter space or towel rack, no hot water furst night no hot water in kitchen at all, mildewed shower curtain. Loud barking dogs left in room all day. Thin walls.

Next morning still sleeping, I see a text at 7:15am, a missed call at 8:36 bugging and reminding of the check out. Its annoying and well aware that I need to leave since I have a flight to catch. Granted if it was Thanksgiving weekend, spring break or summer I could understand but com'on excessive much. This is also setup as an Airbrb and should be on that platform and not Expedia. Room is nice and reminds me of San Miguel De Allende and perhaps they visited and decided to turn this into something like this.

For the most part the room was clean. The area around the base of the bed and walls had markings on them as if from the mop. There were also handprints on the pocket doors. Nothing major, but noted.

I read other reviews that were not so good but we couldn’t have been happier! We had a king suite with ocean view and it didn’t disappoint! AC worked great! Cute decor. Comfy bed! Could see ocean from sitting at the kitchen counter enjoying coffee. Great location! Clean park across the street, little local bars and restaurants all over within walking distance. Easy parking. Will come back!

I had to text some mystery person to get anything we needed like coffee, towels, etc. I asked for room to be serviced and they left what we needed on a chair outside our room. The floor got very sandy as we were by the beach and no one came in to sweep or change sheets after a few days. Unacceptable for the price paid.

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Sand Castle Inn and Suites in Imperial Beach. The room was in a state of disrepair as caulking was peeling in both room areas the view out of our window was of the laundry facility. The bed was not very comfortable, too hard. Paint drips splattered the window in the door. No waste paper basket. The towels were rough, scratchy and very dingy, I use better towels on my dog. Not a fan of the contactless check in with the host; we were not allowed early check in due to housekeeping issues. Based on the condition of the room I don’t think they ever found a member of house keeping team. One last thing it appears that we were misinformed about the quality of this location based on what we saw on the website.

I recently stayed at the Sandcastle Inn on Imperial beach and I can honestly say this is such an underrated hotel! My boyfriend and I came to San Diego for my birthday and we decided we wanted to stay in a quiet, peaceful beach town. This hotel was right across from the beach as well as in walking distance to many restaurants. I never thought I’d like the non traditional check in, but I loved it! The hostess's make you feel reassured and immediately answering any questions. The rooms itself have so much to offer. The aesthetic of the room is cozy, making you feel like you’re on a tropical vacation. It even comes with a kitchenette! It was such a clean and wonderful place. I would 10/10 recommend anyone to stay here.

Looking for a 5 star resort? Keep scrolling. Looking for a small, quiet, clean, bug free room with a comfortable bed that’s less than a minute walk to the sand and 5 minute walk to the pier? If so this place is great. We stayed here 7days and it was great! Check in kind of irritated me at first but wasn’t a big deal.

Nothing on the Expedia website said you had to pay for parking yet I seem to recall the motel saying I had to pay extra for parking , which I did not . The room is nice but the 5 messages seemed excessive

The property does have a great location and the staff was responsive and would answer all question at a moments notice.what i disliked about the room was the bed sheets were dirty , stained and also had blood stains on the mattress. Aswell as the towels were stained and the shower was not properly cleaned

The room itself was great, very clean. We had some trouble with our code to get in and the room doesn’t lock from the inside so I had to put the coffee table in front of the door so my toddler wouldn’t try to open it.

Right off the beach being between wonderful restaurants and only a couple mins from the pier, a lovely location, the coffee is included! There is blemishes on the walls and corners of the room but nothing that alarms me, just the wear and tear. Overall when I’m in the mood to come back to IB I’ll try to book for here! :)

Good location, but not worth it. I don’t want to just hate on this place, but I left two nights into my three night stay because it was really bad. No garbage, no soap, about 1/4 roll of toilet paper. No air controls. No maid service in my room while I was there. Bed caved in. Humidity was so high that my towels never dried.

We were not allowed to check in early even though the maint tech employee onsite told us our room was ready. We arrived to NO HOT WATER, messaged in the morning took them all day and we arrived back to tools all over the bathroom and the bathtub faucet taken apart. We were left with no towels after the tech used them all and were brought no additional towels as promised. The tech arrived smelling heavily of marijuana and we had to sit in our room for 2 hours with our 2 daughters while this tech is high out of his mind trying to fix the water issue. When he was finished chunks of dirt kept running out of the faucet. We couldn't really shower during our 3 night stay. The outside stairs are crumbling to the point where it appears they are going to give out any moment. There isn't staff onsite anymore so you are left with text messaging a person who could care less about the issues going on. DO NOT RECCOMEND STAYING HERE!!

Across the street is a 5 star hotel for 30$ more a night. The finishing touches were left out. No ice bucket. Wood on the door was not painted. Hardware in the tub was jankey and not connected to a stud. There are no drink glasses, only coffee cups if im paying 300 a night this is unsat!

The stay wasn’t too bad. When I went into the room there was an open drink container on the counter. So maybe a bit more housekeeping and also cleaning of the fans would be good because there is a bunch of dirt on them, but the value for price is there not anything that can’t be dealt with

You have to pay for parking which I have never experienced. Also there were holes in the walls in my room. There were two tvs one in each room but only one remote had batteries and the tv in the second bedroom didn’t even work.. the room worked for the night and the price I got it for was decent but I wouldn’t stay here again

There's bo lobby or check-in area. They texted a code that didn't work, and it took SEVERAL calls and texts (over 20mins) to get ahold of someone. Was missing a lot of essential. To name a few - no ice, no hair conditioner, no ac units, etc. There was no screen in one of the windows to the bathroom and an alley way that seemed fairly unsafe. The front door didnt latch fully. No cleaning up during the stay so the amount of sand was insane. Lastly, the water was hot and we couldnt get it to just be cold.

Building needs regular maintenance on the second story balcony, walkway. I highly recommend that they tackle the railings on the staircase and fix the corrosion on them. Also, can they be more upfront about the additional credit card charges???

There was no housekeeping on site had to call or text for fresh towels and bedding and then wait until they decide to deliver them....got locked out of our room because the pin pad did not work we had to stand in the cold wind for half an hour before the door was unlocked because nobody is on site....there was construction going on the entire time we were there

It was just right for the price looking toward a park at the beach. Check in was a challenge, but someone was very friendly and helpful after a couple of phone calls. Great!!!! Perfect location across from the beach, easy parking, good food options around, safe area, quiet, easy to walk everywhere, older building but we like that style! We had an issue with our bathroom around midnight and staff was immediately available, ready to help and assist and fix the problem, great communications. We had a great time there and we would come again, happily!

What I didn't like about the property was the entry door did not feel secure because it did not have a deadbolt and the door was mainly glass. The front window had a torn screen. The bathroom window had no screen. The kitchen was not equipped with eating utensils other than two teaspoons and one steak knife. Worst of all, the unit I stayed in was the lower floor of two stories. I could hear EVERYTHING from above: the rolling suitcase dragged through every room; shoes walking around; and conversation and activities in the bathroom. Made for sleepless nights!

We came to imperial beach to go to a show and visit my son. Had a wonderful time . The staff was pleasant and helpful.

One woman was eyeing us and appeared to be looking for an opportunity to steal belongings out of our car. They allow people to smoke pot anywhere on the premises. We awoke to a man screaming and yelling profanities. The beach was contaminated so we could not go in. No dogs are allowed on the beach. We left the next morning. However they do have a fan in the kitchen, another in the bedroom and a rotating fan you can connect to an outlet. Also if you open the windows it’s a nice breeze you get. They have a patio that’s lit up at night and an area with vending machines. The people in the office are super sweet, the place is a block away from the beach and a couple blocks from the pier with shops, local eateries, coffee shops within walking distance. Pet friendly! For the price you can’t complain! It’s such a cute place and super welcoming!

Extremely difficult to log in to internet - Tried to log in to cable TV many times and never did get the TV to work - Hooker woke us up at 3:00 AM. They wanted to charge me for parking when I didn't have a car. Very small and hot room with no air conditioning or ventilation. Coffee machine in room only had one serving and was terrible.

Never imagined a hotel room without AC or so uncomfortable. Hot, muggy and so not comfortable!! Floors are brick, checking out ASAP, going to hotel across the street. This is worse than a Baja motel room. It even had the mosquitos biting you at night.

We asked for handicap accommodations- didn’t get it. Except for parking. Door was broken was taped together with shipping tape.

Everything was great and went even better when we arrived in the room. Everything was better than expected. I loved the view, the service was quick and easy, short walk to the beach and the room was aesthetically pleasing.

Cute little room right across the street from the beach. Room was very clean. There is no AC but the breeze from the beach keeps the room comfortable.

Rooms have 0 AC and fans about 20yrs old. Couldn’t beat the location tho so we left early and returned late to avoid hanging out here

Self check in, no staff. It was a little humid in the room upon arrival. Unit doesn’t have AC but cooled off at night and floor fan was provided in room also. Staff responded quickly to emails. The location is amazing. Right across from beach access and stores/restaurants within walking distance.

The location is the key. Amazing. The property states no AC, so just be aware. They could likely upgrade the units very easily with new wall units, as the old ones are still there. The rooms are good size and comfortable, they are aged, as is the entire complex. There is deferred maintenance evident throughout. All that being said, you stay for the location..which is wonderful, especially if you love Imperial Beach. Overall, not bad value and overall comfort.

I usually like to try different locations when I go visit my son unfortunately this location was different they are completely self check in and no kind of support if needed The stay was dreadful if it wasn’t because I got charged my hard earned cash I would of rather slept at a Walmart parking lot service was bad no answer called them a couple of times straight to voicemail the rooms were dusty and sheets smelled musty good thing I had my own blanket that I put on top regardless threw it away because by the dirtiness of the room I’m thinking I could of brought bedbugs as soon as the night hits you will have a roach party the beds are loose not sure why they don’t repair them parking is charged good thing there is plenty of parking in the street left early tried to check out no one in office lady outside said okay no confirmation just what room for the price I say it’s not worth it rooms are super hot in daytime no ac just ceiling fans running the cracks crevices are infested with roaches they need to seal them of and do proper pest control

Rooms are very small. However, we had easy access to beach.

Arrived at the hotel at 11:20 PM and office was closed. Called the number on the door several times and no one answered. Was not able to check in and had to go to anther hotel.

I didn’t expect to be in a cute little cottage type room. Not like the bigger hotels. Very well kept up I loved the tub. There’s slats on the windows so light comes in at night that was different. The bed was very comfortable. I did come on a Monday I think it was quiet because of that. I liked being by the beach. Cute cafes nearby

Upon arrival at the hotel, our assigned room was changed from a front facing room to a corner room, facing the laundry area. When we expressed our disappointment, we were told they were fully booked, and there was nothing we could do. The room change was done because another customer was unhappy with the corner room. After walking to the beach, we were called and asked if we wanted an upgrade to a larger room because of our disappointment, we needed to be back at the hotel in 15 minutes before they closed the office. I hurried back to the hotel with my cane, and was told that the upgrade would only be for one night, and we would have to go back to the corner room for our second night. Since I needed the aid of a cane to walk, I did not want to have to move rooms twice so we refused. The next morning housekeeping was doing laundry all morning in front of our room. We were unable to utilize the outdoor chairs. We were unable to open our curtains or blinds, which is essential in a hotel without an air conditioner. Not a big issue however the mini bar a tray full of water soda and candy was dusty and in the way. In a small space every inch matters.

The location is PERFECT!

Excellent location. Only bad thing too much light comes in at night through window and entry door. That being said, I would still stay there again.

Just right for a couple days at the beach. Good location with shops & dining and everything was as expected. Great value.

The beach area was nice. The ONLY nice thing about this place. Towels were stained and the floor was not clean. The blanket had a hole burned through it. Overpriced for amenities such as bottles of water and soda out of their vending machine ($10!). We let everything else slide and managed to sleep. However we woke up to a drippong noise and thought the shower wasn't turned off all of the way. Turned out to be the roof leaking and there was water all over the bathroom. I had to throw away a few items because I wasn't going to use them after getting wet from what was probably a broken drain line. Gross. They shouldn't be offering rooms until they can get the property to a certain standard. I do not recommend.

Had a view of the laundrymat, walls are paper thin, sand on the floors. No extra blankets, unable to reach staff. Would never go back

Very quaint and cute little room for our stay. Not the same experience as a hotel chain, walls are thin so you can hear outside conversations. A bit of a drive from San Diego attractions. I would definitely suggest renting a car if you stay here.

We love the location, but for the price we paid, the conditions of the hotel should have been better. The toilet was loose from it's foundation. The TV was tiny, like 24" or 27". Most of the fixtures were falling apart in the bathroom. Toilet paper holder, towl holder, window blind frame... They all fell off at times. The floor tile was quite dirty. None of these are 'deal-breakers, but if it's going to have that level of upkeep it should be priced differently. The staff was great though,very friendly and accommodating.

Parking situation needs to be addressed, got my rental keyed by unknown guests.

I would definitely consider coming back to this place again. It’s a lovely area with plenty of options within walking distance.

Overall great location, close to the beach. The window frames are not fully attached to the walls. The condition on the exterior need attention and care. But I liked it overall, Liked the terra cotta floors, no stinky carpets.

This place is awesome we loved it so much that we are looking to book it again soon. It is across the street from the beach which was great since we like to go fishing.

Our neighbor snored all night/super thin walls. The couple down stairs argue all night., Our bed felt like at any moment it was going to break. The plumping kept backing up over and over. We had to pay an additional $10.00 for parking (WTH). Hair on the bathroom floor. All of this for an amazing price of $220.00. Never again will I stay at the Sand Castle Inn......CONSUMER BEWARE

The property was in a good location walkable to many restaurants and breweries. It was across the street from the beach and the staff was quick to respond.

We liked that we had a lot of options for dinning in walking distance. Overall staff and cleanliness was excellent!

Really liked the stay, very quiet, pretty much on the beach, loved the area, walking distance to restaurants and stores. Highly recommend and we will be staying here again. Only thing that we didn’t like was couldn’t swim in water due to contaminated water. But hanging out on beach was still a great time.

The staff the hotel were very lovely, unfortunately there was no air conditioning at this property.San Diego I understand is not this hot . But other than that it was super !

Had a great time, the hotel is located across from the beach and plenty of food options available.

The rooms need to be updated and made a little bit bigger. It was cramped and it was only me. But, the front desk was cool and very accommodating and I appreciated the very nice people who were staying there.

A little loud, especially with the homeless across the street at the park.

My only nit would be the check-in process involved the hotel sending an email 24 hours in advance but unfortunately I couldn't access the email Expedia uses and this is a concerning problem. I had to call the hotel from Oceanside. However, I now know that so long as we got there when staff were around it would be easy, and was. I would recommend this place for business and pleasure, with or without youngsters.

Beautiful, quaint hotel across the beach with kitchenette & a view of the ocean. Felt comfortable and definitely relaxing.

We were in search of lodging that would take pets. This was the only lodging available. The photos were deceiving. The room was advertised as a King Suite. Upon entering the room, it was clear no one had given it a thought. There was a worn sofa and a round glass table. A used dresser had a coffee maker and microwave on it. There was a utility sink in the corner, with mismatched dishes in the cabinet, one spoon and one butter knife. A mini frig and snacks and water for sale. There was no decorations at all. The walls were bare and the lighting was fluorescent. There was an adjoining door, and you could hear absolutely everything coming from next door. There was a $35/DAY pet fee and paid parking. This was across the beach, with a slight view of the ocean. It felt like a sleazy motel at premium prices. The internet didn't work when we arrived, nor did the TV. The only redeeming feature was the wonderful staff. They listened to my complaints, and did the best they could. They moved a table with 2 chairs into the room so we could have a place to sit and eat our breakfast. This could be a very charming motel with an investment of money, new furniture and decor. The price was outrageous for what we got. We love Imperial Beach, and wish there were better accommodations that accepted pets. I left our room immaculate, as I always do when traveling with our pets. Perhaps better than most people leave theirs without pets.

It was a good stay, very convenient , everything is in walking distance, easy check in… I would recommend this place to others … the room was very clean … I plan on coming back soon

I love staying at this place, it’s so peaceful and spacious..you’re steps away from the beach and restaurants, nice friendly staff too!

Even though there were a few malfunctions I would definitely go back. Everyone were very helpful & timely!
