Riptide Oceanfront Hotel

Overall we were very disappointed in our stay. Upon entering our room, we found 30-40 termites both dead and alive along the window sills, flying across the room, and crawling on the bed. When we notified the front desk staff, they were very apologetic and did wipe the windows off but also shared that management had tried spraying for them outside the building (meaning they were aware that the room was infested with termites and still placed us there). The hotel itself is very outdated and in need of updates and repairs. The front door was very hard to close and lock. The bathroom door doesn't lock at all or even close all the way. The windows were super old and don't open because several of the locks were broken off. One window wouldn't fully close or lock on one side. There isn't an exhaust fan in the bathroom so any time you shower the whole room gets hot. The shower had a lot of soap scum residue and the corners of the floors were moldy. The air conditioner is just a window unit. It was dirty with the "change filter" light flashing and didn't work well. We asked twice to have a manager contact us and never received a response. It was also sargassum season so we had to trudge through several feet of seaweed to get to the ocean. On a positive note the location was nice and front desk staff were friendly.

I recently stayed at the Riptide Hotel and appreciated its beachfront location. Being able to walk directly from my room to the beach was a major highlight of the stay. The room was clean and included a small kitchenette, which was convenient. The hotel also provided ice and beach chairs for guests to use. While the location is excellent, the property would benefit from some updates. The exterior of the building appears to need fresh paint, and the rooms, although adequate, could use some modernization. The bathroom was quite small. The staff were friendly and helpful during daytime hours; however, services were very limited in the evening. After returning from dinner, I found that the bar, restaurant, and office had all closed by approximately 8:00 p.m. The property felt very quiet and somewhat deserted at night, which did not create a strong sense of security. Additionally, it would have been helpful to have information available regarding local grocery stores, restaurant delivery options, and area attractions. Overall, the Riptide Hotel is a reasonable choice for travelers seeking an affordable beachfront stay. If your primary goal is easy beach access and a clean place to sleep, it offers good value for the price.

Before I booked I asked about a late check in. They said to notify them and they would have a key ready. I agreed and booked the room right after. Well, I forgot to remind them until 7:30pm that day when we had a layover. I figured it might be in their notes but that was presuming too much. By the time I reached out they were closed. They close at 6pm on a Friday, which was shockingly early. There was no one to call so I sent an email. No response. One would think that they might be looking at their bookings that hadn’t checked in prior to closing up, and reach out to the customer. Again, that must be presuming too much customer service. I was still hoping for the best so we took an Uber to the property. No key, no lights and no one home. There was a sign posted with a phone number to call for emergencies after hours. I called. No one answered. Good thing they posted a line that no one answers. It’s was past midnight at this point. So, we went around the corner to the Marriott and found a very pleasant, very accommodating young lady who helped us book an accommodation there for the night. She said she had heard other people complain about the Riptide. Upon looking at the hotel the next day, I was glad it didn’t work out. It didn’t look like the pictures. Much more run down in appearance. I take responsibility for not confirming the late check-in earlier. I have to own that. I just expect a little more customer service from boutique hotels.

The staff was absolutely amazing we were coming off a cruise ship and they held our luggage till room was ready. I cannot thank them enough because coming off a cruise you are exhausted and they did all they could to help us even letting us sit at the bar. Everything was wonderful

Right on the/direct access to beach/boardwalk……..we were only there one night so did not use the cooktop/kitchenette area……overall our room was clean……no headboards on the beds so pillows kept falling between bed and wall….bathroom was extremely small and the ventilation was not the best……not sure I would book again for more than one night

The view was absolutely stunning, the location was second to none. The room was huge! A whole kitchen even included. You could hear the upstairs guests, but it is an old hotel, to be expected. A fan would be beneficial to circulate the cool air better. I will stay again, zero complaints!

We were excited about Riptide since the photos of the rooms looked great & it’s right on the beach. The location on the beach is the ONLY positive aspect. They say parking is on site at $20/day, but what they don’t say until the night before you arrive is that there are only 4-5 parking spots. If you arrive late in the evening, you’ll have to park at a “gated” parking lot a few blocks away. By “gated” they mean an open lot with a simple crossing bar at the entrance. If I had been traveling alone I would have found it very dangerous for a single woman to park blocks away and walk alone in the dark to the hotel. The “gated parking” is also TINY. It was almost impossible to get our minivan in and out of the lot. The room was old and musty and not well cleaned. Sheets appeared dirty. Window is old- you can’t see the beach well (photos are deceptive online). Lots of people smoking W and doing other drugs around the property. We were in unit 28 which is upstairs. No elevator. No stairs on that side. Beds are very old/ uncomfortable. The staff are also extremely unhelpful. We lost an item of no real monetary value but has significant personal value. Once we realized the Riptide is where we left it (toddler pushed it under the bed) we asked if they found it. The clerk was less than helpful, obviously annoyed, and said if it was found, they would have just thrown it away (a book). I said it was under the bed so likely not even found yet. She didn’t offer to go look. Not a good place.

We really enjoyed our stay at Riptide. It’s an outdated building but is kept up well. Check in was a breeze! I was even given a quick tour. The coffee window is quite nice for morning coffee. The amenities are great including beach chairs etc. Would love to stay here again.

Annabelial was GREAT! She went above and beyond. Can't wait to stay again. The water pressure. Can't you guys increase the water pressure to the showers? After a dip in the ocean it's nice to wash off the salt. Kinda hard in a piss stream. You know what I mean.

They offered breakfast? That's news to me. What I did like was being at the beach. There were signs that said parking reserved for Riptide Guests but when I tried to park there a staff member chastised me and said it was "for motorcycles only" but that's not what the sign said. I had paid $20 per day for a parking pass that was wasted because I ended up using my city of Hollywood parking pass instead. I'd like to have that $60 back to be honest it was a total waste. The parking they offered me was in an overflow lot all the way down the street and I didn't want to park that far from my room, especially since it kept raining.

The location was great! Beautiful view of the beach. The room was clean and temperature was good. The room needs some updating. You can tell it is older. We ran out of toilet paper and went to the front desk. The women was not very friendly. She said she would bring us some, but never did. We used paper towel from the kitchen.

The employees were very pleasant. Despite multiple requests and a reminder the night before out arrival, the sofa bed was not prepared. We had three people in the room, so there was nowhere for the third person to sleep upon our arrival. The office was closed. This was stressful after a day of travel and disappointing after sending the reminders.

Live music most of the day and night was a plus! Loved the tiki bar and the fact that we could hang right outside of our room on the patio with tables. Coffee bar right onsite, too. Beautiful view of ocean and easy access to beach. Rooms are dated with no frills but the other pluses make up for it.

Very close to the beach, was nice to walk out the door and watch the sunrise on the ocean every morning. The hotel(motel) is ok for the price we paid and being able to cook in our unit. We dont drink and never ate at the bar/restraunt. The bar gets very busy and loud as they have love music and karaoke like 3 days a week minimum, honestly this didnt bother us at all with the A/C running and or TV on you can hardly notice. The karaoke is pretty entertaining actually. Overall id give three stars, the cleaning crew needs to do a better job and used a vacuum as the amound of sand is maddening, a duat pan in the room would have been great, and the kitchen utensils were very bare bones.

Location is unbeatable. The rooms are clean. We had an issue with our toilet, but maintenance came within 10 minutes and fixed the problem. We really enjoyed the tiki bar and the live music! It made for a fun vacation and great vibe!

The location of the property being directly on the beach was very nice. The pictures do not accurately represent the property. It was very old and could you use some major upgrades. It was clean and we only needed a place to stay for one night but probably wouldn't stay there again.

The view was the one good thing. The hotel is old and has not been updated in a long time. Old furniture. Our bed spread had cigarette burn holes and stains. The rooms facing the Tiki bar are very loud, there are bands that play all afternoon until 8-8:30 so if you want to relax at all it forget it. Would not stay here again.

If you want a lively stay it's a great place. Mind you it's a bit dated so you can hear all the noise of other rooms and the boardwalk outside.

We made a suggestion regarding adding a safety mat in the shower as it is very slippery. The staff , especially the bartender who helped us open the locked safe after offic staff had left for the day.

Old style Florida beachfront hotel. Walk out your door and you are on the Hollywood Beach walk. Great people watching and loads of restaurants in walking distance plus a Jimmy Buffet style Tiki Bar at the hotel.

The location of the hotel was amazing but the room was dirty. We arrived after normal check-in hours and walked in to find stained bed sheets on both beds. The floor and chairs in the room were also dirty. Because of the late arrival time there was no one on location at the property to speak to about it. Hollywood Beach has an old South Florida vibe, in a good way. And that's what you get with this hotel - an authentic experience, so we loved it. It's an old building but it has been updated. Well it's actually 2 buildings and ours was away from the live music so it was not loud, but even so the music did not go late into the night. The area is quiet otherwise, since it's not where all the restaurants are. That's about a 5 minute walk down the Broadwalk. Parking is $20/night and it's either right behind the hotel or in a nearby parking lot, no valet. The hotel provides beach towels, which are already in the room, so there is no hassle to request them anywhere. The hotel does NOT provide beach chairs or umbrellas, however previous guests have bought them for their stays and not been able to take them home, so those will be in your closet for your own use, which is pretty great. Our bathroom and kitchen were small but the room itself was huge, probably twice the size of other hotels I had looked at. Beds were fine, not uncomfortable. Full curtains on all the windows, dark enough so the sunrise did not wake us. The kitchen was quite old but it had a full size fridge with freezer, which was the only thing we used in there. Overall I would definitely stay here again. You'll love it if you go in with the right expectations.

I loved the atmosphere of the place, the staff were also nice, and the location was very, very good and convenient, but the bathroom was terrible. The sink was clogged and really disgusting, and the sheets and the floor weren't clean.

This place has character and characters. The tiki bar draws a fun local crowd. The staff is nice and helpful. We were there for Halloween, what fun! You can’t beat the views and plenty of walkable bars and restaurants nearby.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Great location being steps away from the sand. We stayed in the 2 queen w/ sofa bed (Room #27). Pictures on the site made it look like it was 1st floor, but it was actually on the 2nd level with the same basic layout. Sofa bed looked like it had seen better days. Had a nice cover on it that we kept on and just had our kids take turns sleeping on the cushions for a night each. The queen beds were very nice and plenty of extra pillows. Checked in late the first night after the office closed. Extra blanket had sand all over it, but they were quick to wash it the next morning. Shower takes about 3 minutes (no exaggeration) to get warm. Water pressure is fairly low, but not terrible. The weather didnt cooperate [riptide warning all 3 days - fitting given the name 😀], so we made a 2 hour drive to the West coast (Marco Island) for some swimming. Highly recommend for calmer waters. Unfortunatley, we didn't get to take in much of the tiki bar festivities or boardwalk due to the weather.

Located on the beach- as in open the door to your room and walk in to the water. But it also has some local flare - live entertainment at the bar in the hotel that the locals seem to flock to. But quiet at night when everyone is ready to sleep. We only stayed one night but it was really close to the airport and plenty of options to keep us busy

A great beachfront stay. Friendly front desk and bartenders. Beautiful view of beach. Loved the tiki bar! Also loved the iced coffee in the morning at coffee shop. Room was clean and comfortable. Had a fridge, microwave, ice in the room, cups and plates! Perfect for our little romantic beach weekend getaway.

Overall the property is in a great location. It does need a little maintenance, but since it’s right in front of the beach I will say it’s difficult to maintain it. I also think they can put a little more effort in the cleanliness, some areas of the room were not 100% clean. The staff were amazing!! And the parking is not difficult either. Will recommend it for a weekend of fun.

Bartenders & baristas were great. Bed sheets in room clearly had not been changed upon arrival, there were cigarette burns and black streaks on them. Public bathroom for guests has maybe never been cleaned.

We stay here a lot and this trip was not as good. Entertainment was cut short but we did like the bar service. there was hardly any water pressure and little ants were in the bathroom. There were a lot of food items unavailable due to broken equipment . The staff of course was great as usual.

Its a beach access hotel. Nothing fancy Loved the tiki bar and bands in the court yard. Didn’t like the daily resort charge per person $60 for 2 days and wish there was a pool or jacuzzi. For the cost I will look elsewhere before booking same place.

Majority of the properties use window units so I’m not going to say it’s horrible. Just ask for a fan if you need it cold at night.

Everything was safe clean and great service

This was the perfect place to stay! The beach was just steps out of the room. And our room was beachfront with large windows for a beautiful view! The front desk manager was awesome! I can’t think of anything that wasn’t available. The AC could have been a bit more efficient but that’s the only negative! Will definitely come back sometime!

location is great, right on the broadwalk. The room was huge, clean and light. The tiki bar was nice but only offers “wine-based liquor”, cocktails were $14 and the liquor was not detectable. Staff was all very pleasant. Downside was the refrigerator froze all our food and drinks solid. Also the room was warm depite fan and a/c, didn’t really seem to do the job. Location was the key though!

Our view from our ocean front room was fabulous. The room was adequate and offered a full size refrigerator, a 2-burner cooktop and a small microwave. The hotel charges a $15 per day parking fee which is a deal for the location. It also charges a $15 per day amenities fee which we felt a little high since there is no pool and the only other thing we considered an amenity was the Wi-fi. They do have a tiki bar that sells beer, wine and some food that hosts a singer from noon to around 8. All-in-all the hotel is a good value for the money. My only “selfish” suggestion would be to provide morning coffee for guests to purchase or include a cup in the amenities charge.

This was a very cozy little motel. Definitely “old school“ but the staff was very friendly and the room is very clean. You couldn’t hear a peep from any of the other rooms. It was nice to be on the floor above the tiki bar so that we weren’t in the commotion. Being so close to the beach was awesome.

Staff was wonderful. Front desk clerk was SO friendly. The staff must helpful. I accidentally dropped a bottle of wine unloading, and they insisted on taking care of it. My room surrounded the tiki bar, and the environment was beachy with great music. Right on the beach. Appreciated their eco friendly turtle stickers on windows to encourage you to close curtains to help the turtle nesting.

Great place to sit and enjoy the views - ocean side tiki bar, evening entertainment, reasonable food and drinks. Staff is very helpful; desk clerk Annabella was wonderful.

We come to Hollywood often. This was first time booking/staying at Riptide. Communication was excellent. My VIP status got us an upgraded room with an ocean view and a bottle of wine! Air conditioned room was large with a kitchenette. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is a bit dated but was clean. Ali at the front desk was so nice and accommodating. We got there at noon; our room was not ready. She held our luggage for us so we could walk the area and get some lunch. Our room was ready 1.5 hours later and earlier than check- in time. The hotel is right on the beach/broadwalk and convenient to everything. The tiki bar (their signature bar) located on premises was crowded and is obviously a hot spot in the area with live entertainment. Some reviews mentioned hotel bar was noisy; that was not our experience. Although we vaguely heard some music, etc, we had no trouble sleeping. There is coffee in the small lobby until noon. Ali gave us each a beach chair to use for the day. Overall, it was a nice stay and we would definitely stay here again. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel!

Location right on the beach is great. Drinks, food, service, music at hotel restaurant bar are great. Those are the only good things. Hotel exterior is in absolute disrepair including the door frames and locks looking like they've been broken into. Multiple things broken like switch on ceiling fan. Poor temperature control. Woke up with bed bug bites on last day. Stairs are steep, narrow, and unlit. Uniformed employees gathered around hotel entrance drinking. I assume they were off the clock but not even sure they were of age. Stay elsewhere if those things bother you.

Beach and broadwalk are right outside. Staff was great just didnt have someone in lobby later in afternoon and early morning. Would stay again.

Unfortunately the weather in the low 40s made the room temp uncomfortable with no heater. We showered early but had NO running water after 8 am, sink- shower-toilet. Nothing from 8 am until checkout

If you are looking for quiet, this is not the hotel. It didn’t bother us at all, tiki bar is right by the rooms, music stops early enough.

The view from our room was amazing. The kitchen was nice and the full size fridge was appreciated. Its an older hotel so it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles but it was clean and comfortable. Location and view definitely made our visit unforgettable

It is at a fabulous location. On the beach and with boardwalk and plenty to do. We loved it and will be staying again if we are in Fort Lauderdale again.

This motel is in a great location and has a tiki bar that faces the ocean. Those are the high points. The room was average at best, large enough with a small kitchenette. The bathroom was tiny, and clean but not spotless. The door to the room had a large crack at the bottom where it did not tightly shut even when the door was locked. There were several windows, two of which faced the ocean, but they opened onto the narrow walkway (which is called a balcony) so we did not really leave the curtains open as our neighbors were walking by regularly. If you reserve a balcony room, just be aware that it is not a private balcony. The tiki bar has only wine, wine based mixed drinks, and beer, but the service and the food were good. We stayed here for one night before a cruise and were scheduled to spend the night there after the cruise, but I canceled the second night and stayed elsewhere. Although it wasn’t terrible, I wouldn’t choose this property again.

Excellent location on the BroadWalk. The rooms are nice and roomy ~ we had an ocean front room and the view was absolutely stunning. The sheets were a bit thin and pilling and the door was incredibly hard to open and close (the bolt was sticky and we had to get maintenance to use some W-D40 to unstick it.

We reserved a room (rm25) for one night, but unfortunately, we had to check out early. The mattress was quite old, and uncomfortable, lacking support; this seems like an easily addressed issue, and it suggests a lack of investment in the property's upkeep. The rest of the property is also dated and in need of modernization. The absence of an elevator, coupled with the lack of assistance in carrying our luggage up two flights of narrow stairs, was inconvenient. The property is very expensive considering its condition, though I suppose the location is its main advantage. I also requested that the $15.00 resort fee be waived upon checkout, but it was charged to my card; I hope for a refund. I'm unclear what services the resort fee covers, other than seemingly generating additional revenue. Not a great start to our holiday.

We had an ocean view room righr on boardwalk. Area is a quiet at night as bar with live entertainment on peoperty closed by 9 pm.. could walk about 15 minutes on boardwalk to numerous restaurants as well as Margaritaville free evening entertainment

Quick family stay after a Transatlantic cruise. Stayed for 3 nights. Our room was perfect for our needs. Bigger and better then expected. Excellent views and great location. Only negative was the beds were horrible. The tiki bar was great. The musician's that played every day were amazing. Such an entertaining and great place to stay
