ITH Hermosa Beach Surf Hostel LAX

The location is absolutely unbeatable, just steps away from a gorgeous beach deck. While the hotel is a bit tucked away, the staff’s clear directions made it easy to find. Our only minor complaint is that the bunk bed was a bit squeaky, but everything else was excellent. We really enjoyed the complimentary DOI breakfast and our overall stay. It’s a great value for the price, and the bathrooms were spotless. There is no temperature control inside the room. Sometimes it is too cold with windows open but suffocating when it is closed.

Great location right on the beach, friendly staff, super clean facility. The patio was being remodeled, which is great, but I was just a little bummed not to have some open space.

Incredible location and wonderful staff. Absolutely worth the money. Would recommend for anyone that wants a beachfront stay. The only issue was that the area is known for it's night life, so people that want to sleep early might be bothered by the sound.

I always stay here when I visit LA. What I like the most is the location. There are restaurants and bars once you go out the hostel. A few steps and your already at the beach. The staff. I also feel safe staying at ITH. The rooms are clean and the whole building itself.

Parking is horrible everywhere in Hermosa Beach that was the only downside was parking from Friday to Monday morning it was the worst!

Location is right off the beach. Amazing. The property is right beside several night clubs so its very loud with music and people talking. We were in the back on the other side so it wasn't that bad. Staff was great. Would definitely stay there again.

From the moment I got there, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone I met—both staff and guests—was super down-to-earth, which made it really easy to connect with people without it feeling forced. Even though I was in a shared dorm, I still felt like I had my own space to relax and recharge. It struck a really good balance between social and personal time, which isn’t always easy to find in hostels. The location is unreal—literally about a 1-minute walk to the beach. You can step outside and be on the sand within 100 yards. At the same time, there are tons of restaurants and bars nearby, but somehow it’s still quiet enough at night to get solid sleep. I’m usually up late and sensitive to noise, but I had no issues. They even provide earplugs if you need them. The breakfast was a nice bonus—fresh ingredients and a DIY setup, or if you’re lucky, someone in the hostel might cook for everyone, which adds to the community vibe. During the day, there’s plenty to do: rent a surfboard, hit the beach, or just grab a ball and start a game with other travelers. At night, the area has a great social scene without being overwhelming. Overall, this place nails the balance between fun, social energy and a chill

The only problem is the location, it's so close to the bars, so it was hard to sleep at night.

There is no parking. We had to park seven blocks away. There was no heat in the rooms. The breakfast was very poor. There was no hot water in the room. This room is probably for somebody that wants to party all night because it's above bars and very loud

Free breakfast with pancakes and fruits I was expecting a loud environment since the hostel is on a street with bars but this was beyond everything I’ve ever experienced. The volume was so loud my bed was shaking from the bass next door. Ear plugs won’t help you.

Great location, caring staff. Unfortunately I got the flue so I didn’t have much fun the weekend I was there. But I survived.

Parking is $50 a day at any of the lots nearby. So parking a car, and not having to move/check on it, is almost impossible. Even when paying the higher rate - you still have to check the meter in the lot twice a day. Bathroom was not tidy, and old bathmat/rug in the bathroom was a hair magnet and didn't appear to have been changed in eons. The staff was absolutely awesome. Kind, informative, and welcoming. Will definitely stay again, simply due to the staff!

Staff are awesome, communication was great. Group activities are a nice touch. Nobody stole anything from me. Storage of luggage is important, thank you. I would return again. Although I saw cleaning taking place everyday and everyone working hard the place still felt a little dated. Maybe its the paint on the wall, or the old carpet, I just felt like it could use some updating. More hooks in the bedroom and bathroom would be nice. More little shelves in the bathroom. Website says locks will be available but the locks were low quality, would be nice to have decent locks for sale. A fan or AC in the room would help a lot, it got pretty hot and stuffy in there and wasnt a crazy hot weekend. I didnt see any surfing at Hermosa Beach. Having some deals with nearby vendors would be nice, discounted bike rental or discounted food or drink for guests of the hostel. Front entrance outside looked under construction, didnt notice much work being done.

I was a bit confused by the address of the hostel. The uber driver took us to the address, or rather the block where it should have been, but it is actually on the next street north which doesn't have car access. I would stay there again.

Great place to live, literally next to Lighthouse from Lalaland and so cheap! And also you can literally walk to ocean 2-3 munutes. It was great stay with great breakfast. Staff was so friendly and helping. Even after checkout they permit to stay in hostel to shower or wait for flight and etc. It was great, bc i was just in sand from swimming and outdoor showers were closed. Definitely recommending it to anyone. Wish could stay more.

I've never stayed in a hostel before and I don't think I will again. I know some hostels are nice,especilly the newer ones like the one in Santa Barbara where I visited a friend who was staying there. However, this in old building and the furiture junky. I had my own room not a dorm room and I thought I had a private bath, because the the desciption kind of deceoptively made it seem like it did by not making it clear. Just saying that they didn't provide toothpaste or a toothbrush {as if anyone expects that in the first place!} I'm not into sharing a bathrom with anyone on the same floor. Yes, I could partially see the ocean (and the old/rusted roof equipment on the roof next to it.) I have to say the location was great and the staff was friendly, If you are on a surfing trip with the guys or gals and you need a cheap dorm stay it might be okay.

I loved breakfasts, kind people and quietness of the place (except early morning machinery out there in the beach, but I’m an early bird). What I wished to have is a larger basin and a hygienic shower, as well as cleaning options in my room / laundry options in the hostel. Thanks for a nice stay!

Relaxing and enriching...

2nd floor does get loud because of the bars around. But the hostel has free ear plugs. Hermosa Beach is so close which is awesome. Hostel has events every night if people wanted to participate which is nice.

If youre looking a for fun,foodie and a beach within feet. This is your place. Especially if youre into the night scene or going to a concert/festival. Youll find others to join. Best for solo or couple travelers as they have private rooms as well. I had a great experience and would travel here again.

It was amazing the guys from the office were so nice and helpful and fun it made every minute of the day a joy, the location in amazing there is fun litterally on the street and the beach just a minute walk away, could not ask for better.

It’s noisy during the midnight party and mosquito inside the room to wake you up.

Nice place to stay

This place was incredible. It’s our first time staying at a hostel but we had our own room. Being able to stay on the beach was such a cool experience and walking down from your room to hear local talents singing or over to Hennessey to enjoy incredible food. It was a great experience!

Front desk lady seemed totally uninterested like a robot. The man was cool. The room was messy, and room cane with a drunk in it whovdidnt remember precious night. Cancelled my stay and got full refund back which i am thankful for. Just was not for me.

The property is a little outdated. The smell of it was definitely old ocean sea water as you enter. The kitchen and common area is also outdated but for the overall price it was well worth it. We had gotten the comfort room and it was on the opposite side of where all the pubs are so it was quiet and we slept through the night. The view of our room was awesome. It is convenient as it close to the pier and many of the dining options. Parking wasn’t so bad because surrounding areas had 24 hour parking meters. Honestly the walk was pretty good considering how close everything is to the hotel. They do provide ear plugs for those that I’m guessing are on the side of where the pubs are. Definitely will stay here again in the future! Breakfast options were bread, butter, eggs. You have the option to make what you can with the ingredients that they have or you can buy your own and keep it in a shared fridge in the kitchen if you are booking shared bunks. Our comfort room had its own little fridge that we could put our things in. They did provide body wash and hand soap in our private bathroom which was convenient. I believe they also provide hair dryers but you have to ask the receptionist for it. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure worked well. The way our bathroom was it was a little tight between the toilet and sink but hey everything worked just fine. Thank you for having us! We had a great time!

I reserved the private room shared shower/toilet. The people were very nice. However The bed was held up with duct tape and fell apart as soon as i went to lay down. I toss and turn in my sleep so that wasnt going to work for me even after i tried to re-prop the bed up-this method was only good for visual effect. New bed frames are needed at least for room 203 on this property. Amazon has heavy duty box spring frames for cheap if i may suggest.

Nicole was very helpful and nice she made the stay pretty good. ITH is good for travelers on a budget. The place is fairly decent. Would be awesome if the kitchen and dining are are cleaner and doesn't smell bad. I survived so far with the days I was there, I booked the place to mostly sleep and eat breakfast..the view was awesome though being near the beach makes up for it

The ITH hostel is a fun place to meet people visiting from all over the world. It is a great place to socialize and experience Hermosa Beach when you are traveling!

Access is with code, so no need to be bothered about forgetting the key. I had a private room, pretty spacious with great view to the beach and sunset. Just seconds yo walk from beach and some various restaurants. Big grocery shop vons also not far, about 10 min walk. Connection with Downtown is wishing to be better , in general public transport if LA is pretty bad

I had a small Eddie Bauer back pack taken which had my name and phone number on .I had purchased and as I was labelling and putting my food.away I moved to bottom shelf in the kitchen. It was not found!!!

The hostel staff were friendly and welcoming. I had a wonderful time getting to know travelers from around the world!

They forget to tell you in their description that there’s no parking around and you have to pay every 3 hours in private parking a because the limit of parking time is 3 hours all around the area, plus don’t even want to talk about the shape of the whole building is more like a shelter but they charge you to stay.

The hostel was right by Hermosa Beach Pier and there were plenty of bars and restaurants around the area. I would highly recommend it if you want to save money !

Really great experience for a you get crowd. It was safe and had great activities for the guests. Perfect location to every thing. I highly recommend it.

Stayed for a few day’s. Would definitely recommend. Speaking from experience, overall staffing was great and very welcoming. Good nightlife location, approximately five minute walk to the Beach, clubs, and great food spot options to choose from. Transportation is very convenient.

It was safe and quiet - last time I was there it was so noisy from the bands in the area, but maybe the city put in some noise rules now. Right on the beach, can't beat the price!
