Reviews
The hotel reviews collectively express extreme dissatisfaction with the cleanliness, condition, and maintenance of the property. Many guests reported unpleasant smells, dirty rooms, and broken amenities. However, a few guests appreciated the location and proximity to restaurants.
- Good location
- Close to restaurants
- Extreme lack of cleanliness
- Poor property condition and maintenance
- 3/5
Even with the renovated rooms the motel still needs tremendous work and the area is bad and not very convenient. The ubers are very expensive due to how far they are from decent restaurants and businesses in IL. Overall I wouldnt come back but at lease there weren't major safety of rodent issues.
- 5/5
A gentleman at the front desk who works overnight was really helpful, and professional.
- 2/5
Needed something affordable near Chicago for a work trip and this fit the bill. It does seem the property has been recently updated, but overall felt unclean and the location was not the best. Stayed two nights and both nights experienced constant sirens and police presence outside. On the morning we left, police had shut down the entire road forcing us to find a different route to where we needed to go. The room itself was also not great- microwave and fridge both had an unpleasant smell, found crumbs on the furniture and floor, stains on the bedsheets and towels, hair (not ours) in the shower and what looked like black mold along the ceiling in the bathroom. Not the absolute worst, but I would not stay here again.
- 5/5
Was very nice overall. They changed the sign while we were there. Should rack up once the Bears move into their new stadium down the street in a few years.
- 5/5
Our king suite looked fresh and new. Very comfortable and we will return! It would have been awesome to have a luggage cart to get everything in and out in one trip.
- 0.5/5
Lack of security
- 5/5
Can be noisy from the trains passing nearby
- 2/5
There was no chain to lock the door with. Broken door frame in hallway. GFI Outlet in bathroom shows it has power but does not work.
- 4/5
I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious room, the comfortable bedroom and clean hallways. I would recommend!
- 1/5
Towels were dirty bathroom had black mold under the sink.
- 2/5
I know it was cheap (I paid $96). The room was very large. But the place is kind of a dump. Air conditioner was loud and took forever to cool off the room. No shampoo or anything in the shower. Ice machine broken. But - It served its purpose and my car and boat were still there in the morning and not damaged. So I guess it was a win...
- 4/5
Very nice motel and friendly staff.
- 3/5
It was ok nothing major
- 0.5/5
Nothing! I prepaid for my room and showed up around 2am exhausted from driving 12 hours to have front desk tell me they gave my room to someone else and was fully booked! I had to ask for a refund, they were not planning on refunding me at first. They made the refund extremely difficult and I had to wait around for an hour while they called booking to be able to refund me, and I gave up and left before it was finished because I was so tired. This is such a disgusting practice of giving someone's room away when they've paid for it already and weeks ahead of time at that! I don't recommend staying here as you will probably show up to no room it's not worth the risk! There are better hotels in the area That I paid in full for a room weeks ahead of time, received a confirmation email directly from the hotel about my stay, then after driving the 12 hrs here they told me I had no room and that they gave it to someone else and I had to pry for a refund! And they treated me as if it was my fault!
- 4/5
To noisy, close to highway. Rooms not insulated.
- 5/5
The staff was very helpful and placed me in a different room. It too smelled like previous attendees had smoked in that room but it wasn't nearly as strong as the previous room, so it was tolerable. The locks on the two windows were broken (ground floor) and one of them had broke glass as well. If someone on the outside wanted in, they could have easily opened the window and gained entry. The walls and ceiling are very thin and I heard every sound coming from the hallway and above me, making it hard to stay asleep.
- 5/5
I did enjoy the stay room was clean the only thing was there was a lingering smell in the hallways and the carpets look like they needed to be washed. So far staff was friendly. Kind of wish they had a gym or a pool.
- 1/5
Smelled like weed. the people were loud. The doors were also loud they need to be greased.
- 4/5
Hallways under renovation
- 4/5
Very clean , like it, will back again
- 5/5
Rooms very clean and looked newly renovated. Rooms nice.... the common area was average, but friendly staff made up for that.

The staff is professional and they keep the hotel looking good and safe.

Yes
- 4/5
Good
- 2/5
Terrible smoky and felt dangerous
- 2/5
I saw that this hotel had good ratings and for the price I thought it was a steal and that was not the case, the tub wasn’t cleaned the best, some of the towels were dingy it smelled like dog pee in the halls and the tvs didn’t even have local channels to watch just apps that you had to sign into and some of them you couldn’t even do that or download new ones. I guess you really do get what you paid for and I won’t be doing that again.
- 5/5
Area is a little sketch
- 3/5
Hotel is under new management and currently being renovated!
- 0.5/5
The boo boo hidden in the middle covers
- 5/5
Very nice staff
- 3.5/5
Renovations are being done to the property, no breakfast when it was advertised, bags of trash in the hallways, vending machine on our floor was completely empty
- 5/5
A woman traveling alone needs all this attention
- 4/5
Laundry right outside my door was a little noisy but thats room specific. Beyond that was fine
- 1/5
No refund on our room we didn’t have water for a whole day.
- 4/5
The room was very clean and odor free. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was the room was very noisy from the parking lot. Also the ice machine ran out twice while I was there. Other than that, it was a nice stay.
- 5/5
Lower the handicap beds. Needs to not have a bath when handicap accessories. Needs to be no bathtub.
- 3.5/5
Vending machines didn't take change or debt cards....no soda available.....key card was confusing....
- 5/5
The location staff and cleanliness I enjoyed it here a lot no complaints
- 5/5
Newly Renovated Rooms and Courteous Staff. Room was very clean and well maintained.
- 2.5/5
I enjoyed how pleasant the front desk attendant was. It was so loud with all the door slamming and people over my head that I couldn’t sleep. I literally walked out the room at 11am. I was so tired. I’m not blaming the front desk attendant but that’s my biggest problem. Seeing as he was alone I didn’t want to bother him with a noise complaint and have other guests bother him because of him trying to fix my problem.
- 4/5
No close vending machines or ice
- 2/5
Woke up several times at night to passing sirens. Had issues with remote and TV. Tried a different remote it worked once.
- 2/5
The entire hotel reeked of pot both days, morning to night. Bathroom plug and attached hair dryer did not work. Bathroom sink leaked into cabinet below- the only place to sit any of your bathroom items. No closet- just hanging bar with no shelving or hangers. No drawers or suitcase stand- nowhere to put your belongings. No decaf coffee at reception. The place is run down overall.
- 4/5
The staff were friendly and the check in process was really smooth. The room was very clean and I had no issues. The person in the room across the hall was loud and coming in and out of their room all night slamming the door which interrupted my sleep but other than that everything was great.
- 1/5
Got off the elevator one time dog c*** right in front of it stepped in. It didn't even realize it. And then stepped on the tile. And almost slipped and broke my neck and they acted like everything was okay I'm not used to stuff like that happen
- 5/5
Yeah the staff was great The room was very clean and the hallway was quiet and smokeless That's what I enjoyed the most peace quiet no smoke
- 3/5
No breakfast menu was offered
- 5/5
Great room
- 5/5
The desk when I checked in, it was very informational very polite very patient.
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Bathroom outlet didn’t work but they let me have a late check out
- 4/5
The hotel was nice it was clean...everything was ok except the tv didnt work
- 3/5
The Bathroom Tub was cloged up when we took Showers
- 5/5
As of December 2025, rooms are newly remodeled. Everything was like new in our room. We rented the Superior King room. Staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. This hotel used to be a Super 8 and it was horribly outdated and filthy. Red Roof Inn did a good job making this a habitable hotel. I will return
- 1/5
Couldn’t even stay there. They would not even honor my reservation.
- 1/5
They changed owners and told me to cancel my reservation
- 1/5
Denied my resevation
- 4.5/5
Staff was attentive. I saw a problem with the breakfast issue. The hotel address shows continental breakfast, it does not offer breakfast. A cup of coffee is not a continental breakfast.
- 3/5
Bed was fine and clean. "Free Super breakfast" consisted of a cereal bar, old coffee and a cup of juice.
- 1/5
No help unable to talk to agent trying to charge for the stay while I still have time to cancel without panelty
- 4/5
The rooms are clean and the staff were courteous. The breakfast offers only tea/coffee/juice/nutrition bars. They should not mention it as breakfast. We asked for room air freshener but they could not provide it in 2 days of our stay.
- 3/5
the breakfast was terrible please down advertise breakfast for coffee and a granola at
- 3/5
There is no outdoor swimming pool. Fake advertisement
- 2/5
The WiFi was horrible. The free breakfast is a lie. There were vagrants in and around the hotel. Some of the staff is unprofessional. Will not staying at anymore Super 8 properties.
- 2/5
VERY dirty , rough shape , garbage laying around , didn’t smell very nice. But the bed was very good !!
- 2/5
The hotel is old, has carpets impregnated with cigarette smell, doesn’t have breakfast service although the notice said yes. The area is quiet and safe. It’s 18 miles from Chicago downtown. The hotel doesn’t have amenities. The staff were very friendly
- 2/5
The room was very large. A lot of space to move around and store luggage. The room is older and could use some imporvement. The only breakfast offering was cereal bars and drinks. The area around the hotel is also in need of improvement
- 3/5
Its okay. Location is closed to the road so sounds of vehicle are expected. Welcome with a $0.50 water bottle will looks much professional. $75 room is okay with 2 double bed but bathroom lights make noice and one of our bathroom sink got clogged. Overall, its okay with $75 room
- 2/5
continental breakfast is just coffee and bar.
- 1/5
Smelled so bad! There was a false eyelash on the toilet. The whole place was disgusting. Wouldn’t send my worst enemy here.
- 5/5
The employees were very nice and the room and the hotel was very clean.
- 2/5
It didn’t smell that clean and the room was not what I expected. I spent to much money for this hotel and the rooms to look like this. Very unsatisfied
- 5/5
It’s my get away place they never disappoint.
- 5/5
Over all a good experience, a home away from home .
- 4/5
I love that me and my husband can come and relax after a week of work it's our getaway place we also come here when we are attending a concert at the Horseshoe Casino.
- 5/5
The hotel is the most affordable out of the three hotels near each other. Great value at this place!
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Home away from home
- 3/5
The wifi was very weak, rooms had odor, loose tiles on floor, vending machines are cash only
- 5/5

The outlet didn't work
- 4/5
All good service,,, 👍👍👍
- 5/5
The staff are very friendly and helpful never had an issue I enjoyed every stay and would highly recommend it for the service and great price .
- 5/5
Pricing was decent
- 0.5/5
The bedding was from the 70s. It smelled very odd. Has to keep the window open. But it was cheap, so you get what you pay for.
- 5/5
No complaints here!
- 5/5
Home way from home .
- 1/5
not a great choice
- 4/5
Nothing decent for breakfast
- 4/5
Expand on breakfast
- 1/5
The desk in the room was one good bump from falling apart. The hotel has horrible smell to it. The elevator felt very unsafe making alot of noise. There complamentory breakfast was a granola bar and coffee. The room had toilet paper shoved into holes in the wall.
- 2/5
Thank goodness there wasn’t bed bugs, but this hotel was rough. Other than that it was interesting. Only positive was the staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 3/5
You pay for what you get.
- 1/5
Crumbling, wifi useless, breakfast was a granola bar and juice. Loud outside. Good - very large room.
- 5/5
the front desk staff on it good stay I'd book there again no complaints
- 1/5
No breakfast. It is mentionnés breakfast incluses. It is juste coffee and tender bar. It's just a snack
- 3/5
This hotel is not for the business class traveler. The walls are paper thin, so don't stay here if you need a peaceful night. Also, too much light gets into the room with drapes pulled. The staff is friendly. The rooms were spacious. You will have to pay two tolls if you are going into Chicago.
- 5/5
Everyone was nice
- 1/5
Booked because of location. Gentleman at front desk was rude. Property needs repair.
- 1/5
The property needs a serious upgrade. It smelled like slob in the vestibule. The elevator smelled the same. The room smelled like smoke and slob. The carpet was nasty. The only good thing was it had fridge and microwave, it was near restaurants, and you could take a HOT Shower!!! Not worth $100
- 2/5
Dirty rooms, dirty hallways. Escalator is falling a part
- 1/5
The room (I have pics) was gross. I had to take the comforters off the bed and put on the floor just to walk on. I had to use soap and a wash rag to wipe down surfaces. One bed was broke and leaning side ways. I booked the room that was a double bc I was having a friend meet me. After seeing the conditions I told them to not come bc it was embarrassing. Housekeeping needs to be re trained. There is no excuse to put someone in a room with that type of filth. Thankful I was only stuck there 2 nights until my ride came back for me. Dirty stained toilet, fan did not work in bathroom, connecting door to next room had no type of lock. I was scared someone would come through connector door. Main door also did not have chain, it had been removed. Stains on floor, dirty surface areas. The pics speak for themselves

1) Broken toilet seat 2)VERY noisy heater/air conditioner. 3) missing hair dryer. 4)TV positioned so that you COULD NOT SEE the screen when in bed. 5)missing face towel. 6) window curtain didn’t work/ didn’t cover entire window. 7)walls had gouges. 8)only one chair. 8) If the room actually had a queen sized bed (as advertised), the “queen” must have been a midget. 9) The room was supposed to be for “a couple”, but had only one chair. 10) The bathtub leaked!
- 1/5
The place smelled bad. Everything was old, worn out, not very clean. It needs to be closed down permanently, or at least until remodeled.
- 5/5
It’s not the ritz but it’s decent , safe and a good value for the price.
- 3/5
Loud
- 2/5
Guy that was working the desk didn't want to be bothered, more interested in his phone. The whole 2nd floor smelled like weed.
- 4/5
Quiet, clean, comfortable .
- 2/5
We did not actually stay at the Super 8. I had requested a handicapped room and they did not have one available. I am in a wheelchair. I looked at a room they had on the first floor, but I could barely get my chair into the hall of the room and certainly could not use the bathroom. The room looked small and not very clean. The entrace/lobby to the hotel was really dirty looking and I immediately did not want to stay there anyway. I do have to say the staff was helpful and called the Ramada Inn next door and we were able to get a room there at the same price. So I give the gentleman at the office credit.
- 4/5
The beds had mold on the box spring.
- 4/5
Pleasant stay
- 1/5
I would never refer anyone here! The hotel is old and in disrepair. The room smelled and was not clean. It was so bad that we left after 2 hours of trying to make the best of it. The only good thing I can say about this dump is the front desk. She was nice and courteous. I feel sorry for her because she has to work there. Even her space was horrible! Don’t waste your time or money sleep in your car.
- 2/5
I will say the woman at the front best was very good.
- 1/5
We will never go back to this hotel it was the worst experience we have ever had as there is no breakfast as advertised and bugs everywhere the toilet was moving and the water didn't shut off as we let super 8 know they said oh well worst experience ever
- 1/5
the room where nasty smell like weed the bathroom sink was clogged. At soon you open de hotels entrance door smell like weed and the whole hotel. I have asthma and ended with asthma attack
- 1/5
The room had one working light. There was only one bed and the pillows looked as if they were washed in a machine and left to dry in a folded in half position. There wasn’t even a couch in the room. We were in the room for less than five minutes before we decided that the room was unsafe and unacceptable. I spoke to the desk clerk and told him we were not staying and asked for a refund. He told me that I would have to speak to the third party booking agent,Expedia we only spent ten minutes in an unacceptable location. I have spent many nights in hotels all over the world and I can honestly say that the Super 8 in Hammond Indiana was one of the worst.
- 5/5
Great customer service. Good stay.
- 3/5
The motel stopped giving breakfast as mentioned on Internet
- 2/5
There were spider web at the window and dirty, holes in the wall/ no door stopper, curtains were raggedy looking from outside , most of the guests looked homeless as if they lived here, someone knocked on my door at midnight and didn’t say anything and disappeared. Only one useable out of reach electrical outlet by the bed/ no usb outlet and the person above me was very noisy walking around after midnight like it’s a party!
- 4/5
No comment
- 1/5
WiFi sucked. The room was musky and it was an awful experience. I wish there was more to do around where I was.
- 3/5
In today's market you get what you pay for. That said our 1night get away from the family was great! For this place being a no frills place it was clean. A sit down restaurant is across the parking lot.
- 2/5
Looks like someone tore off farmica that covered the sink base revealing old adhesive.
- 3/5
Quiet
- 1/5
I was tired after a long day of work when a rat ran all of the sudden. I went to the front desk and explained the situation, they offered to kill the rat or to move to another room. I took option 2 of course.
- 2/5
The front desk night guy was lazy to the point of not wanting to get out of the chair. Horrible attitude even if you paid him more he would have the same attitude. A mouse was in the room. Front desk guy didn't care. This is a dump.
- 1/5
Super8 looked clean but there was movement in the room I sat up looked again it was a big ass mouse I called the front desk at 1AM he said I can move you to another room I said ok can you help me he said I can give you a key I moved to another room that had roaches omg I called the front desk back the he’ll management will be in at 8, they did move me to another hotel but I’m home & I can’t bring my bags in I have to leave them outside to make sure I don’t bring any bugs in my home
- 5/5
This room has a working run.
- 1/5
Room lights didn't work. Staff did nothing. You should refund my money!
- 1/5
THERE WAS NO POOL.
- 4/5
Economical property.
- 4/5
I stayed for 1 night on the way to Chicago, it was ok for 1 night stay
- 5/5
The room was clean and smelled fresh. It's what i would expect for the price. I wasn't looking to spend alot of money plus it was close to food. It's in Hammond, Indiana so there's no attractions
- 4/5
No breakfast
- 3/5
I can say that I chose dirty as a description only because there was no other choice. it was more you can tell very few people have gone the first mole to keep this place up and going let alone the second mile.
- 5/5
It was near our destination.
- 3/5
It could have been cleaned better and some maintenance items cared for but I can't expect much for a $70 room.
- 1/5
LOOK AT MY CHECK IN THE MAN WAS AWFUL. I ASK FOR A RECEIPT AND HE ASKED ME WHY I WANTED A RECEIPT, THE CARPET IN MY ROOM WAS SO DIRTY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BURNED, THEIR WAS ONLY ONE CHAIR IN THE ROOM, THE PILLOWS WERE LIKE NOTHING YOU CAN DESCRIBE, GLAD IT WAS FOR ONE NIGHT , WILL NOT STAY THEIE AGAIN UNTIL ITS BEEN CLEANED UP, WENT FOR BREAKFAST IT WAS ALL GONE AT 7 AM.
- 2/5
Motel wasn't bad but room needs a lot of work. Service was ok, room was cleaned every day. Main issue, rooms need maintenance upkeep. Will find another motel if we go back.
- 3/5
Not up to my standards.
- 1/5
Disgusting. Dirty. Hostile workers
- 3/5
Hotel needed some cosmetic work in the room and halls. Ice machine was not working. Iron in my room didn't work
- 1/5
Room safety hazard with cracks in floor, sink partially installed with hardware (possibly sharp metal) under sink, poor lighting, stains floor and loveseat and also bathroom looks like mold in many spots. I have never taken pictures, but way too much to remember and type. You should look at the room you sold me.
- 2/5
Do not recommend this hotel. Mold...peeling paint dirty bed lines....food spatters on the furniture full garbage.cans. Rm 104

- 2/5
Smoking smell.
- 1/5
It was gross.. The rooms smelled like cigarettes, the AC leaked the whole time and the floors were nasty. I would not recommend this place.
- 1/5
Very dirty and outdated place. Bedbugs. Spiders.
- 4/5
Good, large room, quiet, close to where we needed to go Bad, ice machine broken, cracks in tile, internet really SLOW, probably the worst if you depend on it
- 2/5
It’s cheap. But. Don’t believe the pictures. We booked a nonsmoking room but the room we were given smelled like cigarette smoke. The hotel interior is in poor condition, the room we were given much worse. The bathroom looked icky, interior-wise. Didn’t look clean to me. I couldn’t bring myself to take a shower in there. Seems like needs a renovation immediately. Straight up crack den vibes.
- 3/5
This is a typical budget hotel. There were no major problems with our stay. The biggest concern was with the hotel condition/appearance. There is a lot of major wear to all areas; many cracked tiles, worn out entry door pads, ripples in the hall carpet and damage to many places on wallboard. The room had a lot of spots on the carpet and couch, and the bathroom fan did not work. Much of this damage, sadly was caused by careless or unthinking patrons. Not sure if hotel owners are waiting to do major renovation or wait until the place becomes unusable. None of these appearance things caused a problem for our stay. The beds were clean and comfortable. If you can look past the appearance, then you should be OK with the stay.
