Great location. Very cool old historic building. Could use some updating but overall fine.

My room was so hot when I arrived, probably 80+ degrees. I turned the AC as far down as it could go to 64 and put the fan on high and closed all the blackout curtains but several hours later, it was still at least 73 degrees in the room.

This place is awesome! It's cool that they renovated an existing historical building, and did such a good job. The rooms, while not large, are well appointed. The bathrooms are very well done. And don't get me started on the staff. Everyone we met, went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We will definitely be back!

Upscale vibe and design at an incredible price. Old bank recently renovated with new retro feel Great rooftop. Super clean with comfortable bed and great shower. Very helpful friendly and efficient reception. Head across the street to incredible Argentinian cafe with some of the best pastries and sandwiches I’ve had Retro vibe and rooftop

Disappointed the dining room not open on Sunday. This might have been more clearly announced.

I booked the smallest type of room and it was indeed small, but it was plenty of room for me. Room amenities include a Keurig machine and small fridge. There’s no closet but there is a luggage rack and places to hang a few pieces of clothing. Free parking is in the lot next to the hotel. Webb Custom Kitchen is just a 5 minute walk. There are several other bars, restaurants and convenience stores right nearby as well. Be sure to check out the view from the rooftop lounge at sunset!

Good downtown location. Good historic vibe. Downtown development needs a restaurant that includes walkable breakfast. Rain type shower heads, while trendy, are not useful when washing full thick head of hair.

Lovely historic building with a great restaurant and patio area and a roof top area. Friendly staff - clean and comfy rooms. Nice location and easy parking. Would definitely stay again.

Small rooms converted bank building. No breakfast offered or available on site. General area of hotel is littered with empty business. We stayed as it was walking distance to an upscale dinner venue. Otherwise it offers very little.

Room was listed as wheelchair accessible. I drove 3 hours for a 2 night stay just to find out it wasn’t. The doorway wasn’t wide enough to get into bathroom by any ADA standards. I was nice about it and asked for a refund after looking into a couple other rooms. They said they refunded and I went on my way. I saw a refund attempt and an odd number of charges on my account but gave it a few days to see if it cleared up after MLK day, a banking holiday. Now I have THREE charges $120+ and no refund. The hotel number says they don’t deal with refunds then proceed to give me a number that is supposed to but my hotels.com doesn’t have a reservation number that matches that format. Technically I shouldn’t be allowed to review since I don’t stay but since they have about $400 of my money without providing any benefit to me, here we are.

I like the building itself. It felt like walking through time when walking down the halls. But it was modern and comfortable in the rooms. The bathroom was amazing and the water gets hot. Also the fact that you can go relax on the roof is a plus for me. I swear I seen breakfast was included (that was one of the selling points for me) however I found out the next morning that they havent been doing that for some time.

The staff was very nice and helpful. Room was clean with nice blockout curtains. The only thing is, we went there to celebrate my birthday and booked the stay there because it advertised having a restaurant and several bars and a rooftop terrace bar. We booked our stay on a tuesday and once we checked in we found out that the bars and restaurant were only open on the weekend. I wish the hotel website would have mentioned this. We did find a nice Pub with a pool table and Webb's restaurant was next door (within walking distance from the hotel).

Great location, cool historical building They closed the coffee shop/breakfast in the basement, you only get a thermos of coffee and no cream etc. no thermostat control in the regular rooms, ridiculous. Staff was nice but not very consistently at the desk, found them outside sitting in cars more than once.
- 2/5
The room was tiny and cramped. The new decor felt old to me. And the vent in room 207 squeals and makes other crazy sounds when you turn up the heat. Also if you are looking for the thermostat it's behind the pocket door for the bathroom!!! Weird place. We couldn't locate it at first had to call front desk and ask. It is overpriced and underwhelming to say the least.

Definitely not as nice as advertised. The building was as wide as two cars put together. The elevator was down so we had to walk the stairs which go up for days it seemed. As well as back down. The rooms were so small it fit a bed and two side tables with minimal room to walk around. Very dated older smell and the air unit was so loud I couldn’t sleep.

The room was very small but comfortable. Good sized tv. Chair at desk was very comfortable. Plenty of places to plug in the phone and wifi was free. The bar and restaurant looked very good. I will try and eat there the next time I come to town. The shower was tiny. The soap and body wash was glued to the wall so you could take it off and had to us it as is. They didn't have adequate towels for one, much less two people. The elevator didn't work so you had to use tiny stairs that was difficult for people to go up and down at the same time. The wood floors looked poorly maintained and need to be fixed.
- 2/5
Location and room was comfortable. Restaurant and bar close too early. Elevator was broken. (5 flights of stairs) Asked about ice and was told that I can get some from the bar???? Either do a decent breakfast or just charge and open up the restaurant. That breakfast was not worth advertising. You are really doing yourself a disservice. I’m coming back because this place is so comfortable and love the charm. But to increase your price point… the service and amenities have to catch up with your property.

Room was amazing. Great linens and comfortable bedding. Rooftop area. No liquor license for cocktails. Both bar and restaurant close too soon. We have stayed here 3times now and have yet to arrive soon enough to try your beautiful dining room. I did make it in with 5 minutes to shared and ordered wine and enjoyed it on your rooftop. Very poor breakfast included. Would be better to just offer a breakfast menu instead. I would have paid for it.

Our room was tiny but adequate. Floor was very sticky. Bed was comfortable and thanks to ear plugs we slept well. The AC fan squeaked constantly sounding like a watch alarm. If our stay was more than one night we would have had to switch rooms. The front desk girl suggested we check out the rooftop Lounge area. It was very nice since the temperatures were cool with little breeze and we could see a view of the whole city from there. We very much enjoyed that. Overall the room was cozy and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.

When I arrived there was a Juneteenth celebration setting up directly behind the property and the parking lot was full of vendors with nowhere to park. The entire block was full of cars and people were walking through the parking lot to get to the festival which wouldn’t even be in full swing for a few hours. Since the police were in the process of shutting down the streets in and out for the upcoming fireworks display and I still had to pick up my wife that evening we decided it was better to abandon the reservation and go stay a little further away. After a few days no response with Travelocity my refund request was refused. I know it wasn’t their festival, but it should have been made more apparent during the booking since it overwhelmed the whole area.

When I travel I love to stay at historic locations, this one did not disappoint. The hotel staff were so kind and helpful. The Barrister's restaurant was exceptional and so were the staff. Gourmet meals with southern flare, and great cocktails. A simple breakfast and coffee are provided each morning, except for Sunday. There is a nice Rotary built park on the back side of the hotel that was nice, as a Juntenth celebration was held during my stay. A great location just outside of Charlotte, but close to other cities that offer great activies to visit each day.

Second stay. This one was for four nights. Bathroom sink drain got stuck. No room cleaning at all for four days, which seems a little odd. If the owners would make a little effort in enhancing the guest experience, this place would get 5 stars from me. Front desk staff needs some customer service 101 training.

Room was spacious but didn't have a closet. There was a small leak under the bathroom sink. They offered continental courtesy breakfast - which was unappetizing. We stayed on the 4th floor - directly off the elevator - it was surprisingly quiet. King-size bed was comfortable. Coffee shop down the block was friendly.

Other than it being clean and people being nice there was a few problems with the way it is being run. Wanted to get ice in my bucket and couldn’t find any ice on floor. Called front desk and they said I would have to bring bucket down to them and when I did they said they had to go to basement to get ice. Breakfast was not really a breakfast. Had little boxes of cereal and if you wanted coffee you had to go upstairs and get it from the front desk. But very clean place and people really nice

The rooftop gives nice views of your surroundings. My only issue is the room size. As soon you open the door you’re at the foot of your bed. Very, very small, but clean, rooms.

I really enjoy staying at the Esquire every time we visit our son in Gastonia. The hotel has history and we love the nice people there!

The building is beautifully restored, the restaurant and bar are wonderful. The only thing I didn't like were that there was no thermostat in the room and it was a little cold. Also the windows were the original frosted chicken wire glass, which is great, but there's no view. Also the room was small.

I really enjoyed my stay here. My only complaint is the heater is VERY LOUD but over time you kind of get used to it.

I wanted to love this boutique hotel. We arrived after dark and found street parking right outside the front door. The hotel is a converted bank which is cool. The lobby restaurant smelled amazing when we walked in and was pretty full! The queen bed was pretty much all that fit in the room. We couldn’t find the thermostat because it was placed behind the sliding bathroom door so we had to call the front desk (which we did from our phone because the room phone said that # had been disconnected)! The shower was extremely small. We wanted to love the room but it was too small for me and my 10 year old son to move around without having to get out of each others way. Not sure if all the rooms are this small or not but 201 is!

Amazing stay! We grabbed dinner at the restaurant downstairs because it was convenient, and wow, amazing!! Staff was great. Saw other reviews saying the rooms were “small” but didn’t find that to be the case. Super clean, and comfortable bed. Loved the history and build of the hotel. Will definitely be staying there again if we are anywhere in the area. Only negative had nothing to do with the hotel. Woke up to sirens a couple of times…. Again, nothing to do with the hotel. Highly recommend!! (hotel and restaurant)

The time I spent at the hotel was very relaxing and if anything was needed the staff was very accommodating. I will definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends. And I will be coming back again to stay in the near future.

The hotel was charming. The downtown area lacked the tourist attractions that would have made for a better experience. Not many people in the area and not many businesses to attract visitors.

I love this hotel! This was my second stay here and let me tell you i have no complaints whatsoever! It is a very clean place and te staff was awesome! The restaurant is very nice and equipped with a nice bar, even tough i dont drink. Parking was easy and close to the building. It was very quiet and cozy for the most part. I would definitely stay here next time im in town!

I was worried when I walked into the lobby. It smelled a little funny and was small and uninviting but it was actually a really nice hotel. I thought the guest room was great and beautifully done.

The property is really cool with the marble and dark wood work; takes you back in time. Great boutique hotel !

Nice; building used to be an old bank or something; seemed historic. Upfitted nicely! Room was small but cozy, well decorated and chic. Staff friendly.

Was a neat place glad I stayed there room was so clean . Food was an issue for me I’m a vegan that only eats raw fruit and veg . Nothing around the area I could find to eat . Was glad I brought some of my own fruit etc etc besides that it was a neat little spot .

Hotel excellent, dining option limited depending on the day you are there as downtown is closed on certain days.

Very unique vibe.

Restaurant closed upon arrival. But had dinner on the following evening and the food and service was excellent! Initial room was on 4th floor and the AC was noisy. Moved to a room on 3rd floor and was much better.

Small town so everything closes early. Restaurant closed on Sunday. But had dinner on Monday and the food and service was excellent!

Beautiful property and very clean, two great staff members and the rest were pretty lazy/unprofessional. This included having hang out sessions in the lobby while drinking all of the guest coffee in the morning (both mornings we stayed) and just staring at guests pour hot cups of nothingness.

Stayed with my son. Originally had a queen room. Found some nasal discharge on the bed. The AC made a horrible continuous noise. We stayed in this room until my son saw a bug jumping on his phone and then we’ve got moved to another queen room. That room the AC was even louder. Started on the sixth floor went to the fourth floor and then they upgraded us to a king room on the third floor. In the original room there was tons of noise from music. We thought it was someone below us. It turns out when we moved to the third floor that there is a club next-door or across the street and that music played till 2:15 in the morning. Tons of motorcycles revving their engine Lots of loud bass coming from someone’s car that rattled the windows on the third floor. The first queen bedroom had no decorative pillows and the bed was so worn it needs to be thrown out. The shower curtain in the queen room touches you even for someone 120 lbs. so a very small space. And there are no AC vents in the bathroom so it stayed hot. In the king room it was much nicer. However we were lower down to the parking lot and the music kept me up until about 3:30 in the morning alongside with the motorcycles and this was a Sunday night, so I’m guessing it’s not a dry town. The water does not get super hot in the queen room, but in the king room it was too hot. Overall, I would never stay here again. I like boutique hotels, and the building was very nice. It’s an old bank, but you stay at a hotel to sleep!!!!!!
- 4/5
Love this hotel but there is a bar right beside it that is extremely loud on Friday and Saturday nights until 1-2am. If a good night’s sleep is needed, may want to look elsewhere. The service, quality, food, and decor are fantastic though!
- 2/5
The hotel is beautiful and service excellent but there was an outdoor concert a block away and street noise well into the night that made sleeping impossible.
- 5/5
It was very nice to go to a hotel that is not a chain. The shower and toiletries were very nice. Bedding was high quality. Staff were very welcoming.
- 3/5
I liked the old bank building but would like a bathroom update. Also the included breakfast was very disappointing

We ended up staying here after our connecting flight got cancelled but this hotel really brought the good out of a bad situation. Amazing staff, great restaurant on site, super comfy beds, and nice area to work remotely. It felt more like a fun detour. Not far from the airport and fairly priced, very updated rooms.
- 5/5
Staff was top notch and professional, accommodated a room change request with a smile.

Cutest little hotel! They’ve done a wonderful job converting the older historic building into rooms. Very up-to-date and clean. Front desk personnel were very kind and helpful for anything we needed.
- 4/5
Great property, average staff, bar next to the hotel could be noisy although it did not bother us.
- 4/5
The inaccessibility of the rooftop on 4th of july should have been disclosed. Breakfest was not wonderful at all. Also coffee was not good.
- 3/5
This hotel just didn't give me a friendly vibe.
- 5/5
Not much around the area
- 2/5
The elevators & the A/C in the stairwell were down.

I liked it a lot. It didn’t seem very full. I hope it stays around!
- 5/5
Friendly, shared what was going on in the area for dining and entertainment and was just simply a very kind person.
- 4/5
Try to get on a floor other than 2 if you are staying over the weekend—the noise from the street and surrounding bars/outside venues lasts until 2am. Other than that, the hotel room is quaint and beautiful. Worked for me!
