National Inn Garden Grove

We arrived back at the room at 11 pm to find someone washing their car outside our room. It was all so bad it became comical. Pros: Easy, straight shot to the beach. Costco nearby, plenty of Asian infused restaurants nearby, but no others. Management was very kind & helpful when trying to get ice & learning we had to pay for ice. He provided us the coins needed. We alerted the owner/manager of the room issues prior to leaving (light, smoke alarm, chair). We would not stay again, although a great budget stay!

When I saw the run down motel , I was embarrassed! My wife was not thrilled!

Nothing, really, except we got a parking spot right outside our door. The property didn't respond to 2 email requests for a lower level room, although we did get one. Upon checkin, the staff member was not very welcoming or friendly. There was urine on the sidewalk area. The room had not been swept or cleaned for probably days. It looked lke the trash had been emptied and toilet paper changed, toilet semi-cleaned. We went out to dinner and returned late, no one was at the lobby window. When we pulled back the bed covers to go to bed, we found that the sheets were filthy with sex fluid. We were in our night clothes so didn't want to try to walk to the front desk and the room had no phone. We stripped the bed, which was soiled completely through to the mattress pad and also on the underside of the top quilt. We stripped the bed and slept on our coats - and of course weren't able to get much sleep. We mostly stayed up and watched our phones. We intended to complain when we checked out but no one was at the front desk window. Just dropped the key in the drop box. Strange that no one would think to be available at checkout time. Perhaps not wanting to hear the complaints. this property had an 8 star rating when we booked it online - how could that be possible. Although it looks like someone had done a mediocre job in renovating the room - drapes and bedding appeared less than a year old and paint had been applied over everything, the front planter boxes were bare with soil, stones and small trash. Why does Booking even deal with this property? We didn't bother to contact the property again as it seems they don't respond to calls or emails. Horrible property.

Parking was easily available during my stay. Hotel was able to accommodate my request for a ground floor due to traveler in party having issues with stairs since no elevator for a 2-story building. Room was clean. Concern was only the standard dead blot to lock the door. No secondary lock was present.

We had an awesome room w a king bed n great size tv with many channels to choose from. We loved that as we watched the men’s Final4 from our room. Very nice bathroom. Higher toilet, new tile shower n a new, safe deep tub if u r into soaking in the tub. Perfect for that. Clean! Howie at the desk was the best! Very helpful-with getting us ice, directions, ideas for things to do n places to go. He was so nice, kind n very helpful. Great stay!!!

Overall, it was a great stay. The area was wonderful and conveniently located near everything we needed. The staff were nice, respectful, and welcoming. The pool was a great addition as well. The only downside was the bed, which could use some improvement as it caused some back discomfort. Other than that, it was a new and enjoyable experience.

The room looked decent at first, there was a smell that lingered like dirty laundry. Some of the floor tiles were broken. There were a lot of patched holes in the wall. The shower head was clogged and didn’t have a lot of water pressure. There were roaches running around. The bed was somewhat decent. Weird stains on the walls and ceiling. The decor on the wall was from a different hotel. The bathroom door did not close as if it was previously kicked in. Didn’t feel clean.

Where to start? The upkeep of the outside of the motel was poor itself. The inside of the room was even worse. The furniture was old, scratched, stained. The comforter was thinner than the sheets, the sheets were stained and had hair that was not ours, doors and walls looked like they had never been wiped down, the towels were stained as well. I was worried about sleeping on the bed due to the lack of cleanliness. I will never stay here again.

It's a no frills roadside motel with free on site parking. The room was clean, comfy, but dated. Small dated fridge in room, a single serve coffee brewer, but no microwave. Not a bad stop for a quick rest.

The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The only downside was the table in the room has some what looked to be gang tagging etched into it. I let the manager at the front desk know about it.

I've stayed at the National twice now, and for a Budget Friendly motel you get a big room with a food prep area including an additional sink, fridge, and microwave. The bedroom has its own door, too. The wi-fi is reliable and you've got KoreaTown BBQ right across the street. This is one of the oldest motels in Garden Grove, and may seem a bit rustic, but c'mon people, everybody needs to save money these days. Save your money for Disneyland, or a hot spicey Bulgogi dinner within walking distance. I had a minor issue with the heating and it was taken care of right away. (Old Folks such as myself: watch your step in the parking area and on the stairs). You'll meet a lot of interesting people, each with their own stories.

It was extremely noisy all night; traffic, placed next to the stairs, and the walls are super thin (I travel with 2 service dogs whom have some time during the night to not be on “duty” and have a break…they are well behaved and usually do not have an issue, but the extra noise with all the factors stated, did not help)…also, the bed was extremely uncomfortable, causing my back hurt after tossing and turning trying to find a comfortable position. Needless to say, I did not sleep very well. I don’t know what I was expecting; a MOTEL is definitely different than a HOTEL.

I tried canceling long before 1hr prior to get refund per stated in cancelation policy with hotels. Main reason i reserved the room. Guy stated they do not chage cancelation fee that the charge is from the third party website. I would like my redund and am out of my reservation amount due to this. I will never reserve a room from this place again.

Everything seemed to be in working order. Am older building, but, a clean room, attentive staff, across the street from shops and grocery markets.

This is my 4th or 5th stay here and normally it is a decent experience for the price but this time they placed me in one of the 'suites' in the corner where anyone could attack me and no one would be able to see it. There was no microwave when I have been placed in rooms with microwaves my 2 other previous times. The couple next door to me were loud this time. And I saw a mid-age man acting suspiciously as he approached a room of a very young woman and it was just an off interaction of them looking at me while I was in my car getting ready to grab some food and then rechecking to see if I had left already. My intuition told me that there was some shady stuff going on there. As a solo female traveler, I felt unsafe more times than not this time around. If you are planning to book, do not expect the same amenities every time you are there. Oh, this was the second time that I walk into a room that has a big puddle of water because someone turns off the refrigerator cooling dial all the way down, so I am left cleaning the large puddle and then turning on the refrigerator dial and waiting for it to get cold. You have to pay for the ice at the ice machine but can ask the staff if they have any quarters as well.

I should have done more research when I first booked a room. I saw it had an 8 score and it was “very good” so I went for it. For one, the neighborhood is ghetto. When we entered we noticed the floor was dirty, there was left over food in the fridge, a partially used toilet paper, and a used bandaid hanging from the bathroom ceiling. There was also a lady having a VERY loud conversation outside in front of our room regarding her personal court business. Never again.

A/c worked ok. Room was old smelt funny, no.toilet paper. Good thing we had some tissue. Door barely locked. And then toilet was clogged in the morning. My body feels itchy now also. Regret staying here

I have a daily habit of walking in the early morning when it's still dark. I felt perfectly safe on Garden Grove Blvd. The locals are warm and friendly and helpful. All you have to do is smile at them; they're people just like you.

Don't waste your time with this place.

I booked a room based on the reviews of 8.0/10. The place is dilapidated, dirty, and unpleasant with zero amenities. The 'office' door is shut all day and night and you have to transact through a window! There is a cup under each OLD window AC to catch the condensation water. It is worth $30 per night. Motel 6 is generally better than this. I wonder if those who have rated this place at 8/10 have ever been there or to other hotels for comparison.

The hotel is ok. It is in a safe area. Couple things we did not like like the toilet took 8 minutes to refilf and very weak. The bed only has two sheets but no blankets.

Great value! 2 rooms 7 days adult family stay. Kind owners. Older building a little short staffed but helpful with whatever we needed. Other travelers were respectful, friendly, same mixed demographic, etc. It felt like maybe property owners were mindful of of this and didnt just book to make a buck. Next visit to LA will be booked here.

A two-day stay in a Garden Grove location with two queen beds costs $150. This convenient location is near Westminster, offering easy access to the family's favorite Vietnamese restaurants (a significant advantage given the lack of comparable options in Las Vegas). The proximity to the beach is another benefit. Why incur excessive lodging costs when the room is primarily used for rest after a full day of activities? The owners are accommodating; however, the absence of a swimming pool and a 25-cent ice fee are minor drawbacks.

The single couch in the room dirty stained, bed sheets a lot stained and the parking has a lot of parking spaces and FREE which are plus on incentives.

If you’re in Garden Grove and want a decent place to stay, this is the place.

Not this time we had a bad night with my daughter, she was so afraid about a drawing in the wall , it was late night we couldn’t talk to the manager in charge to see if we can change room it was the worse night ever we had to cover the wall with plastic bags so my daughter could sleep

I pre judged this establishment several times , based off price, location, appearance from afar, traffic and reputation of nearby establishments with similar price ranges , even the dollar amount of the deposit and the script referencing the property “rules” when I first arrived both those alone had me certain I was in for an unpleasant and at best survivable experience… I’ve never been more wrong and more happy to be so. Staff was excellent and attentive what is obviously a husband and wife management team gave me and from what I witnessed EVERY guest a level of empathy, care, and attentiveness that I haven’t seen at even the most expensive of hotels I’ve stayed at. Will most certainly visit again. 10/10

The room smelled of mildew and feet when we walked in. The bathroom was disgusting with pee stains on the wall, tub still had hair and smelled so bad. The bathroom door didn’t close all the way and even the sink stayed clogged the entire time. I took the sink plug out to see if it would help and it had actual mold on it. I told the manager and he said he’d have someone clean it up but nothing was cleaned properly.

Check in was quick and easy plus the room was clean.

I’ve stayed at National Inn, Garden Grove, on a couple of occasions, and each time was great. I’m a small business owner, and I’m always on the look out for budget-friendly hotels/motels to maximize my travel budget. One big piece of my expectations is reliable internet. On this trip, the internet was not working, which forced me to find a place to work elsewhere. Overall, the experience was good, but the internet issue is something that’ll likely make me think twice before booking here again.

it was okay but not enough blankets, towels, or pillows

The room was small…hardly enough to move around. Fridge but no microwave. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a jet engine & one of the overhead lights flickered. In room entertainment options were pretty limited…the most basic of basic cable only. The hotel is right in the middle of Koreatown so dining options were plentiful and varied in all price ranges (as long as you like Korean & Vitenamese food). There was a large oriental market across GG Blvd that had a small coffee shop (not a Starbucks) next door. The location was convenient to all major Orange County attractions & it was convenient to our destination. We didn’t really have any issues with noise. I thought the room was fairly priced & had the kind of amenities we expected. I’d stay there again.

The room smelled trrrible when I opened the door. Had to spay air freshener everywhere. Only had one small trash can. Simply unacceptable. There was a live bug in the bathtub. The upholstered chair was filthy. Had all sorts of bugs crawling on it. There were holes on the walls in the bedroom slowing for flying bugs to get in the room. Lots of flying bugs. The light fixtures on the ceiling in the bedroom are poorly installed with open gaps around them. Bugs and more bugs flew in the bedroom. I did not sleep one minute. For $94 i should receive a clean, bug free room. It was disgusting. Do not waste your money. I will never stay there ever again.

I had a last minute training in Anaheim and found this place to be close enough and budget friendly. When checking in I called ahead due to some unforeseen circumstances. She was very accommodating, professional and very helpful. I never had an issue finding parking and found it to be quiet at night.

Can hear whatever the next room doing or may be they too loud during privacy? Lucky that our kids weren't with us.

This is one of the nice weather hotels especially on garden port boulevard it was a pleasure to stay here

Don't forget your $50 cash for deposit! We were sent away and went to 7-11 a few minutes away and got cash only for the next person to let us check in without it, but then they refused to check someone in this morning without their cash deposit. The room was nice, but the cash deposit situation is super inconvenient.
