Reviews
The Grand Galvez is a historic hotel that has been beautifully renovated, offering a luxurious and elegant experience to its guests. The staff is generally friendly and attentive, and the hotel features a great bar, restaurant, and pool area. However, some guests have reported issues with the size of the rooms, bathroom fixtures, and parking fees.

Excellent hotel filled with old world charm. Very similar to Broadmoor or Hotel Del Coronado -- built in early 1900's but excellently maintained. Beautiful upscale charm with modern flair. All hotels in Galveston are across the street to the beach. Nice beach area. Beach area staff so-so. Not very organized and definitely not good services except for manager Evan. He was awesome. The rest kept saying they'd bring things and then didn't. Need more lounge chairs on weekends.

Only one elevator was working Room, bathroom very cramped
- 5/5
Cons: Valet parking — very little parking options otherwise.

Wonderful hotel with fantastic room service

My wife and I live in Houston, and we finally got around to staying at the Galvez this year for our 27th anniversary. This isn’t just the nicest hotel in Galveston (even better than the San Luis), it’s one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. Get a room with an ocean view. It’s such a nice way to wake up. The pool is top notch, and I recommend getting a big bowl of fruit poolside in the morning. The private beach was a very nice bonus. The coffee shop in the lobby is going to be my new go-to place for coffee when I’m in Galveston. The decor is amazing, as is the staff. It’s the kind of hotel you’ll want to explore and take lots of photos. Great fitness center. It’s so much more than a place to sleep and put your stuff. Treat yourself, and make the hotel the best part of your visit to Galveston. We plan to come back before summer is over.

We had a great stay! Beds were comfy, shower was awesome! Perfect anniversary stay!
- 5/5
Great place, clean, great atmosphere staff was great as well love it!!
- 3/5
Great location - beautiful building with great history. Staff were not very friendly - on valet or check in or check out. We had a power outage and no one asked if everything was ok with stay, even on checking out.
- 4/5
Room is small. Shower nice, bathroom is too small.
- 5/5
Great place- beautiful area and fun history. They need stronger coffee though!
- 5/5
The ambiance, architecture, and staff No accommodations for smokers, we are people too and pasted same price to stay.
- 4.5/5
The beach chairs and umbrellas are not available on Mondays, disappointing. Our room did not have a refrigerator.
- 5/5
Beautifully restored in blended vintage and contempory style. It felt like visiting gasby years, loved it so much! Customer service was good, pool side and hot tub was very enjoyable. Location is perfect to be able to walk to the pleasure pier.
- 5/5
My wife enjoyed the gift shop and the bar was very nice! We always enjoy the pool!
- 5/5
The elevator was very slow and old

Make sure you ask for a printed receipt when you check out otherwise you will spend days following up to finally get one sent over to you. It may also have some strange, random address on it that you are not associated with and no explanation other than it must’ve been put down when you made the reservation? They also charge a $25 facility fee, which is stated nowhere. Parking is also $40 a night. Considering the cost per night, it’s not worth the hassle and nothing remarkable stands out to warrant the price point. Service was not great as shown by the fact that I had to go way too far out of my way for a simple receipt. Also, pool was supposed to close at 10pm. Kids were yelling and screaming until at least 11pm. It was so loud that we kept getting woken up.

Good
- 4/5
I do not like how they stole my car keys, there is no 24 hr room service and how they do not let you know about automatic gratitude. Also I felt uncomfortable because I was the only POC in the whole hotel
- 3/5
Staff was nice. Requested minifridge but not received. Coffee bar closed early and wasn’t open past 3. Really disappointing. Enjoyed pool and hot tub.

Nice Resort!

Historic displays and location. Service fee. Book.com says the total they show is complete: Not at this property! A $25 service fee is slipped into the checkout process without explanation.
- 4.5/5
The only thing I wasn’t completely happy with was the view. It was partial ocean, partial rooftop (room 242). Next time I want to secure complete ocean view. Loved the bathroom marble and bed linen. Maybe next time try to get a larger shower/tub.
- 5/5
The staff were excellent! Beautiful hotel in a great location. Gorgeous pool! Nothing really. !

The property is beautiful and unique. My husband and I enjoyed a quiet couple of days away and this was the perfect spot. The hotel is beautiful and classic, and the staff was great.
- 3/5
Way over priced! For that time of year it should have been half of what was charged!
- 3/5
Great romantic weekend hotel. Lots of historical photos and history. Had a real 1920’s feel to the hotel and decor. Restaurant was great as was the staff. We purposely chose the Galvez. for a romantic get away for the weekend to use pool and bar. The pool was closed for some health related reason. Though I appreciate their concern for cleanliness, it kinda ruined our plans for the weekend. Completely not their fault, just bad luck on our part. We cut our stay short and moved to another hotel that had a pool. The staff was gracious and redeemed our money without a fuss. We will definitely try them again.
- 5/5
Best hotel for your money in Galveston
- 5/5
Loved EVERYTHING about the hotel! It was an absolutely wonderful experience! Can't say enough positive things about the staff!
- 3/5
Location, architecture and decoration Arrived and was notified that they just canceled my reservation- done 3 months earlier and confirmed the prior day. After some time, while I was trying to book another hotel, they could get an inferior room but no discount or manager to discuss the situation - I paid for something that was never delivered and complains were just ignored.

The pool was really hot, the drinks were super expensive and they don’t tell you they keep charging your card if you exceed the hold. Spent everyday fighting with them because of all the charges. They did fall off but holding money that wasn’t there’s. Make sure you just pay as you go and don’t charge to the room. Trip was ruined. Spent my time moving funds around and covering the cost of things. I’ve always just charged to the room and settled up at the end. This part was a nightmare and the staff was completely useless. Didn’t care and they don’t tell you that when you check in. A hold to incidentals is fine but rerunning it everyday when it takes 7-10 business days to be refund adds up quick.

This property is has a zero cancelation policy for a reason, We check in and out within an hour and still had to pay for two nights! To my understanding it so common other properties are used to this issue! It looks better online then the real thing appears! There is nothing grand about this property but the prices and the misleading perception! Save yourself the time, money and headache and book somewhere else!!!
- 4/5
We loved the pool area and the hotel was very nice and a great location They had a wedding reception while we were there and even though we were on the 5th floor the walls vibrated from the music until well after midnight and it was impossible to sleep. They need some serious sound proofing in their reception area if they’re going to have receptions deep into the night.
- 4.5/5
Love the location. Hotel is beautiful and the restaurant food was amazing. Had dinner and breakfast there. Staff was on top of it. Beautiful bar and great drinks. The shower was strange. No doors at all to shower so it gave a modern vibe. Problem was after you shower our entire bathroom floor was puddled with water. My husband had to use all the towels to clean it up. It was a mess. The bed was comfortable enough. Pillows were not good. When you laid on them they went completely flat.
- 5/5
Very warm welcome from staff. Complementary sparkling wine to celebrate anniversary.
- 5/5
it was great
- 4/5
It was such a beautiful hotel they just need to be more informative and clear about and extra charges resort fee and 1st night fee of $40 for parking, we were told it was $20. But other then that room amd staff are always professional and kind.
- 5/5
Breakfast was fresh and very delicious! Service was spot on and we had literally no real wait time for it to be served even though the hotel was packed with wedding guests.
- 5/5
Good and convenient place to stay.
- 5/5
Clean, upscale, great breakfast.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed the Grand Galvez. We didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the bar, so I can't rate them. We will be back.
- 5/5
Great romantic getaway! Felt like being somewhere other than Galveston! The pool was amazing!
- 5/5
we had a great experience. Everyone was so nice. It was convenient to the beach and also to go to the other side to the Bayside. It’s a beautiful hotel. The management and staff were very nice and gracious and helpful coffee spot on location. Pools were heated and wonderful I recommend.
- 4/5
Excellent bar - great espresso martini. Classy hotel all the way around. Had a great corner room with excellent views. Only problem was very loud noise from some kind of concert across from the Galvez in an open lot. Lasted until 1am then started again around 9am Saturday morning - it was an annoyance.
- 3/5
This hotel is beautiful on the outside, but there needs to be some renovations on the inside. You can tell that it’s definitely wear and tear. The Poole could use an upgrade I feel like and you can’t see the beach when you’re using the pool at all. The drinks are right, but they’re a bit pricey and they also have changed chefs a few times so the food is different without knowing because their website still has their old menus. Everything was good though, and the servers are really sweet and nice. Also, the ballet is very nice as well. Our sink was clogged the whole time we stayed so that was annoying.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. Beautiful inside and outside.
- 5/5

- 5/5
My wife stayed at Grand Galvez and was very impressed. Great location, very clean, staff was great, food was great & variety, atmosphere was great. 5 stars easily.
- 5/5
Very pleasant stay
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel, for me personally I wish I had read more fine print since I was looking forward to being able to use beach chairs and didn't feel like it was the best hotel for young kids, but as a fancy hotel and wedding hotel it is a beautiful location. Ashley at the front desk was very sweet.
- 4/5
Most of the stay was great. Location is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. What really dampened the stay is we were there one day and the pool was closed that day for cleaning. I completely understand that the pool has to be cleaned, but I feel like there could be a better time to do the cleaning. like early morning before the pool opens, instead of closing the pool for the entire day. The pool at hotel galvez is amazing, it is the main reason we booked there is so we could relax and swim on our one day there. that didn't get to happen. It was very disappointing. It seems like they knew that this pool cleaning was going to happen, but still charged the full rate knowing their main amenity will not be available. Other than that problem, we enjoyed our stay
- 5/5
Always love visiting. Great rooms. Always get a couples massage. Wonderful hot tub.
- 5/5
I am so impressed and literally blown away by the recent update and renovation of this place… so gorgeous it’s like stepping into the 1930’s…Also love the atmosphere and service is good❤️
- 3/5
Its a more older hotel but definitely a place to checkout. Double booked by accident and hotel has a no refund policy so be careful about the dates
- 5/5
Yes, bar was well stocked and staff was exceptional. Room was very clean.
- 4/5
We asked for a room with a tub, but we had to wait on one, which was fine. We spent the afternoon at the pool, which was wonderful, however, the birds seem to be a problem, we could only find chair under the wood beams and the birds were sitting on top and pooping, we had to have one of the employees clean one of our dresses, because a bird pooped on it. We got to our room and it did not have tub, very disappointing. Dinner was fabulous at the Monarch, however they ran out of many items, including wine listed on the menu. At 7:00 am, the TV came on playing music, we did not ask for wake up call and I had planned on sleeping in a bit. I told the front desk about it and they had no idea why that happened and would check into it. Otherwise the hotel is beautiful.
- 5/5
Clean room. Beautiful property.
- 4/5
The room and bathroom were very small. Everything was clean, and the bed was comfortable though. Even though it says the rooms are soundproof, you can still easily hear people outside the door. The Resort is beautiful to hold events like weddings, bridal shower, etc. But to stay there for any other reason; I personally don’t feel it’s worth the high price they are charging. We paid $600 for one night in their basic room. Valet is $40 The pool area was small and packed with so many people. I think they had a section of the pool closed off when we visited. Overall, it was very underwhelming.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
The staff were very accommodating to whatever we needed.
- 5/5
Staff was wonderful and attentive to guest
- 5/5
We had a view of Pleasure pier and we could see all the cruise ships pull into port in the morning. The hotel is amazing.
- 5/5
Clean comfortable room with a nice restaurant and awesome pool!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great staff and nice restaurant located inside. The pool area was absolutely stunning.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Everybody and everything was impeccable.
- 5/5
I loved the quality and nostalgia of the property. Everyone was friendly. I would have given a 5 but the service at the restaurant Sunday night was a slow and a little unresponsive. The food was always outstanding and the service in the morning was truly outstanding. I used the valet service as well. I ended up not tipping anyone at the valet because while the car was delivered in a timely way, no one opened our doors or met us at the car. I’d visit again and would give a solid 4.5.
- 5/5
The restaurant for dinner was really outstanding
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel! Clean, nostalgic, stunning
- 5/5
The staff was very helpful. The pool area was quiet and clean with a swim up bar and food options.
- 4/5
We booked the full ocean view room but was given one small room on second floor with roof top obstruction. I called front desk immediately to complain and was given one on 5th, a much larger n nicer room with full view of the gulf. The shower head is amazing, the room is clean with nice decor, bed is firm and supportive. The frig might be a bit noisy. A very nice stay indeed. The ball room, the pool and the common areas are spectacular, full of history
- 5/5
Rooms are small, but immaculate. Excellent kingsize bed. Service was spot on.

The hotel was quiet, lovely, romantic, and quite enjoyable. The staff was kind and helpful. I will visit again.

- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Updated. Room was nice and a bit small. Staffs were wonderful.
- 3/5
Sheets had clear blood stains on them. They had been washed but very clear blood stains on the sheets!
- 3/5
Room had been used as I first walked in to my room! Half full water bottle. Comforter on bed was messed up. Had to call front desk. I was assigned another room wherein the TV did not work. The screen was garbled.
- 2/5
Room was extremely noisy next to a utility closet.
- 5/5
The spa was very relaxing and the brunch was 10/10 !

- 5/5
Such a comfortable and aesthetic place to stay! We were jaw dropped.
- 5/5
Clean and a beautiful property
- 5/5
This is picky, but the pool cushions and the cushions on the lobby wicker chairs felt thin. Go with a firmer filler when you decide to replace them. At the pool, I would recommend waitstaff circulate and take drink orders from the lounges. We probably would have ordered some but we were not going to walk over to the bar. On another decor note, the monkeys on the wall coverings brought me joy!
- 5/5
The pool is so posh!!! Staff was very attentive! Will definitely go back
- 5/5
Clean room, staff was amazing, beautiful property.
- 5/5
Beautiful clean and smell freo
- 5/5
We loved our stay.
- 5/5
Always enjoy our stay. The rooms, bar and restaurant are amazing.
- 5/5
Great location and lobby
- 4/5
Clean, well appointed room. Friendly check-in staff. Beautiful bar area, but located in a noisy area of the lobby. Difficult to have a conversation due to music volume and other guests standing in the immediately adjacent hallway while talking loudly. Moved 3 times to find a seat in the bar that was relatively quiet.
- 5/5
Last year I stayed at a B&B and saw this beautiful pink historic hotel. It was very expensive, but it was a once in a lifetime experience and budgeted it for my husband and myself this year. Elegance all the way around. Wonderful customer and valet service. A bar was located inside as well as dining and other features. Nice dress attire is requested in the evening. We choose to park ourselves next to the hotel or in the back. There is a parking garage next door if you have any problems. The rooms were very lovely with the tapestry on the walls. A little small but to be expected with older hotels. Beautiful ocean/gulf view from our window. Thank you for this gorgeous stay. Blessings to all staff for 2026
- 5/5
The room was perfect , bed was extremely comfortable. The bar food was not great, could have been an off night. Overall, excellent stay , we will return.
- 5/5
Restored to her original glory, The Galvez is spectacularly renovated and refreshed. They have truly captured the charm of this majestic shoreside hotel. If you’re looking for a vintage seaside escape look no further.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel! Everything was great.
- 5/5
Enjoying our stay, all the staff were exceptionally helpful.
- 5/5
This is our second time to stay at the Galvez. Room was very nice and reservation staff was very helpful with our booking an extra night due to the ice storm coming in and then allowing us to cancel the next morning at no charge when we realized we could travel back as originally planned. Love the decor and history of the hotel.
- 5/5
Staff
- 4/5
A great stay, but I didn’t know I had to pay an extra fee of $25.00 , I thought Expedia fee was the total bill.
- 5/5
If perfection was a hotel…this would be the perfect example. Bar = amazing. Bar food = amazing. The staff = amazing. It’s just perfect and beautiful!
- 5/5
One of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in.
- 5/5
Everybody was so nice. We felt very much at home. This place is so amazing. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
- 5/5
Very clean room, nice hotel 100% recommended will return
- 5/5
The room was amazing. The hotel had everything you needed!
- 5/5
Wonderful and classic.
- 4/5
AC was too noisy
- 4/5
All good
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Ocean view rooms are not worth the premium due to the building geometry.
- 5/5
Really nice. Looks and smells clean and fresh.
- 4/5
yes
- 2/5
Reception staff were rude and unfriendly. Was not made to feel welcome at all. The hotel itself is beautiful with great location but the terrible reception service really let this down . We normally stay at The Tremont we will be returning.
- 5/5
We absolutely loved it. That’s where I would love to live because it is just so very beautiful❤️
- 5/5
Great stay
- 4/5
I called to ensure the pool would be heated, to which they stated it would. However, when we got there, the pool was mediocre and was definetly not hot enough to get in. The bar was not open at the pool and it was deserted and neglected. The San Luis pool during the winter has an AWESOME vibe and we were hoping to have this here - but this was definitely disappointing. Barely heating a pool and having an actual heated pool with bar service and attendants are two completely different things. I suspect I asked the wrong questions when I called.
- 5/5
Clean room. Excellent customer service.
- 5/5
Love the charm there around Christmas and location
- 3/5
Room was very small. Pool was concerning as there is no way to secure that are for guests only. I saw no place to have gate securing or anything so anyone from the street can come and stay there.
- 5/5
The ambience
- 5/5
Didn’t visit either
- 4/5
Restaurant experience was mixed. It seems they. Ouk’s only handle a very few dinners. About 70% empty and they would not take a walk in couple who were guests in the hotel. Same menu at the bar and Chris the bartender offered us seats there. His service was excellent
- 1/5
They didn’t let us into the restaurant
- 5/5
The host at the front desk was very friendly and check-in was seamless. The room is beautiful and clean.
- 1/5
You can not even open a window in your room, no balconies, the pool is cold, only old people everywhere. Even the Christmas brunch( which is supposed to be good) was not. Food is cold, I do not know, but for us, we will never go back.
- 5/5
Good service. Exceptional Christmas buffet
- 5/5
Staff were awesome. Clean and spacious room, we enjoyed our stay.
- 4/5
Friendly
- 5/5
Room was absolutely spotless. Amenities are top notch and the customer service is impeccable. I love the toiletries! Everything about this hotel is just an absolute blast and this will definitely be our go to time we go to Galveston.
- 5/5
Love the property, its location to the beach. The staff was so friendly and welcoming and professional. The room was rather quaint and nostalgic. Only stayed overnight, will be back to enjoy other amenities, like the spa
- 3/5
Rooms ext small felt damp and dirty.
- 5/5
Beautifully renovated historic hotel on Galveston's seawall. Location, amenities, and service were top-notch. Room was spacious and well-appointed.
- 5/5
The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the staff was excellent.
- 4/5
The staff was exceptional. The rooms was clean but the bathroom is very small; the toilet paper holder is in your side when sitting on the toilet. Instead of a coffeemaker the room had an expresso machine with only 2 pods - many of us don't use those but anyone can use a coffee maker.
- 3/5
Room in good condition but hallway area near elevators needed dusting and paint. Also they advertised the Thanksgiving brunch but it ended earlier in day so we opted to eat elsewhere but had we known they had a turkey dinner available later we would have eaten at hotel.
- 5/5
This is truly a beautiful property. They’ve done a beautiful job keeping the rooms renovated and fresh. The views absolutely don’t get better than this place!!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel
- 5/5

Excellent service and luxurious experience.

I did not have breakfast
- 5/5
It was a great stay
- 5/5
Courteous staff
- 5/5
The bar inside was very pleasant
- 3/5
Our room and check is was good. Drain in tub was clogged and had to ask someone to clean it out….yuck. The spa would have been nice if they hand not forgot my facial. Waited 2.5 hrs in the lounge. When it was 15min past I went to the desk. The woman who checked me in and asked me several question didn’t get my cell number correct or my room number….i was at a loss. Missed a boat ride for a non spa day.

Spotless -Staff- outstanding Excellence stay
- 5/5
There were no problems with the stay.
- 5/5
The swim up bar ledge and sudden change in depth need to be marked. My wife hit her shin swimming up to the bar
- 4/5
The hotel was a great place but they didn’t give us the room we paid for (sea view). I felt ripped off and misled.
- 1/5
The product Hotels.com sold was defective. The "King Room" was in disrepair. The shower was broken (no temp control). A light was out, and the mini-fridge was non-functional for 3 days. The hotel service was non-existent. The restaurant was insulting. We were seated in a pitch-dark booth (no light) and completely abandoned. After 20 minutes of being ignored, we were forced to walk out. Hotel management was hostile and absent. After asking for a manager since Day 2, we were forced to wait 1.5 hours on Day 3 for an Asst. Manager who did nothing and never followed up. The hotel also practices deceptive billing. We had to argue to get fraudulent charges removed (valet overcharge, surprise $25/night fee). Separately, we paid $480 cash for a spa experience that was a total ripoff—broken facilities, no service, and a mandatory $80 tip. A "no refund" policy is for when a customer cancels. It is NOT a license for Hotels.com to sell a defective product. We have filed complaints with Marriott Corporate and have 1-star reviews on all travel sites. We are heartbroken. We expect a full refund.
- 4/5
Breakfast in the restaurant was very good until our last day there. The service was sub-par, it took over an hour to get our food.
- 2/5
The hotel is beautiful. The room had a coffee expresso machine that didn't work. Some of the built in plugs also didn't work. The elevators take forever. The hotel had two weddings. Tuxedo formal weddings and we were unable to use the bar because of this. Most of the wedding guest would look at the hotel guests as if we didn't belong there despite us being paid hotel guests. I would never return because of this. I could not enjoy the hotel because of all the snooty wedding guests. Not a good experience. We had to quickly rush to our room or rush to exit because of this. This is an expensive hotel that we could not enjoy. Disappointed.
- 5/5
We love everything about this hotel. It’s beautiful and comfortable. The addition of GiGi’s beach club was fantastic!
- 3/5
Hot tub was great Wednesday night but only Luke warm Thurs night. Room was clean but caulking in seaside windows was hanging down in almost every pane destroying view. Bathroom sink was cracked. Desk top was damaged. Needs a bit of maintenance on this “old girl.” No hotel chairs for beach. Offered a towel for my 73 year old self to sit on beach. Bar was nice. Had dessert at restaurant, cheesecake was wonderful. All in all a good stay but for the price expected more luxury.
- 5/5
Always love the Galvez. Never disappoints!!
- 5/5
It was just my husband and I for two nights. We love it for a quick getaway from Houston.
- 1/5
They charge me for the room, but the room was pay through you guys. And is not way to talk to anyone.
- 5/5
The only things i didn't like was a 30 dollar amenities fee that i thought was already included when I booked with Expedia.

Was a nice relaxing trip

Very nice hotel. I paid $400.00 plus for 2 days through hotels.com The hotel charged an additional $50.00 per day service fee. I couldn't believe the fee charge. They didn't service us anything extra except the complimentary coffee and water in the lobby. Next time i will stay elsewhere.

Pool staff seemed inconvenienced , not friendly and on their phones . No beverage service on monday- end of season or umbrella service on beach, we felt there could have been an attempt to accomadate with only a handful of guest left , spent the same amount of $ to stay on a Monday as I did on the experience of full service Saturday. Restaurant and front desk staff were great.

Nice

Everything we had was delicious and decently portioned. Many times in the more expensive fancy places the food portion is small, not here. We tried both the room-service and the restaurant each day and it was great each time. There is a posted dress code, is loosely enforced The pool is a good size and wasn't overly busy throughout our stay but there were some gaps in the tiles and had scummy water in the side furthest from the bar that I tried to avoid.Overall, many open spots, constant check-in's from the bar personnel, lovely drinks & food there as well. They have a Beach Club across the hotel, which meant open seating and mostly clean sand! The Gym had clean equipment, it wasn't busy, good for restless nights. The Spa is packed early so call (phone booking) ahead, prices weren't listed!I didn't get to book anything. For 3rd party booking be prepared for some fees/incidentals ($100+ p/nght)

Great hotel, convenient private beach with complimentary chairs and umbrella. The staff are very helpful, and the rooms are always clean.
- 5/5
Room had a city view. I asked for a complimentary upgrade as it was our 50th anniversary but the front desk said the most they can do is a bottle of wine
- 5/5
TV at pool not working.

Clean room and friendly staff.

Beautiful hotel and friendly service. The pool is a great place to relax and grab a drink!

Cons: I booked a Deluxe King room with Ocean View. Our room was tiny, with nowhere to put our luggage. We were on the second floor at the end of the hall so our ocean view included the top of a structure below us. There were two conventions while we were there, so I don't know if they gave the nicer rooms to convention participants, or they gave us this room because we booked through a third party. The toilet was so close to the wall and toilet paper dispenser that I had to sit sideways. The bathtub is about 6" above the floor level. Thankfully, there is a grab bar at the back or it would have been dangerous to get in and out. And, like too many other hotels, there was only one towel bar. We have stayed at the San Luis several times, and I think we'll go there next time, or rent a beach house.

We had a great stay

Beautiful hotel. Very friendly staff amazing location. Will return!

Not so good. We have stayed at Galvez for 20 years the 2nd week of September for my wife’s birthday. The bar is closed until 5pm. The pool bar is never open. They didn’t offer bar service at the pool. We used to like hanging out at the pool and enjoy the swim up bar with full bar and food service. We won’t be back!
- 5/5
Very clean, everyone was very nice. Jan at the front desk made our experience very good. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
This property was so unique. We went for our wedding anniversary and it was a perfect overnight getaway. We’ve decided we will definitely be back.
- 5/5
Staff didn’t replenish some of the items in the bathroom
- 5/5
Grounds and hotel is lovely
- 5/5
Although the rooms are small, the beds are very luxurious and comfortable. The rooms are also nicely decorated and A/C works great and is quiet. The lobby is huge and BEAUTIFUL. The food, cocktails and wine available in the large lobby restaurant and gorgeous lobby bar are EXCELLENT. The hotel doesn’t have it’s own self parking (valet service is $35 a day) but a public parking garage across the street works fine and I believe costs $17 a day. There is also free parking on the streets next to the hotel. :)

Excellent

well maintained property! Very clean rooms and pool area. The hotel is historic and kept beautifully.

This is the 3rd time that we’ve visited Galveston and our 2nd stay at the Hotel Galvaz and it was amazing. The upgrades have made the hotel even better. The Spa services are equally amazing.. we had a very relaxing and delicious time..

This is an exceptional property all around. Staff was great, room was lovely, and the hotel itself is beautiful.

I did not like the fact that there was no shop inside of the hotel that could serve snacks and drinks. There was a bar and a restaurant but after that closed there was nothing close by to get snacks.
- 5/5
Fantastic atmosphere. Super clean throughout. We ate at the restaurant, food and staff was incredible. I couldn't recommend this establishmemt more.
- 5/5
Exceptional place. The views, the food, the drinks, the pool. The only thing I would complain about is the jacuzzi out of service at the pool, and could have gone with a better toilet paper.
- 5/5
Excellent property
- 5/5
Great experience.
- 4/5
The room wasn’t terrible, just very small for the price and the television wasn’t working properly (pixelations kept occurring on every channel - just a little annoying while waiting on the person you’re with to get ready). The hotel really should look into adding some rules regarding children. The lobby has a gorgeous antique call…in which a small child climbed into and attempted to play in while its mother just watched? Children running and screaming in the halls around 6 am. And the pool, which is clearly meant for relaxing, was full of children screaming, splashing, and doing cannonballs - again, while their parents just watched. The pool really should be 18 and up. You do, however, get complimentary private access to a nice grouping of lounge chairs with umbrellas across Seawall Blvd where you can buy drinks and food.
- 5/5
The money spend was very worth it!! I took advantage of everything that was provided for me! I would definitely would come back for seconds!
- 1/5
Very expensive for the quality. The hotel is beautiful, but the rooms are tiny. And oceanfront is actually a view of a parking lot and a rooftop underneath you with a little tiny bit of ocean in the corner. The customer service is nonexistent. Don’t expect them to answer any phones or answer any of your questions. No one knows anything about anything. The drinks at the beach cabana are $17 apiece and they use $4.99 well tequila even though they lie and say that it is a higher in tequila plus Graham Monet and it has neither of those ingredients. No one knows what they’re doing at this hotel. It is full of inexperienced staff and they overcharged you for crap. We normally love the buffet. We are actually locals here and the crab legs were so overcooked. You couldn’t pull any meat out of the legs. The price of the buffet has almost doubled since the new owners took over and it is not even close to worth it. The buffet is half the size that it used to be, and not even close to the quality that it used to be. A lot of moneyfor a staycation and it was not worth any of it. Never again.

Rooms were great. Showers not so much. Pool amazing, hot tube not working one day then not very clean next day. Host and hostess were amazing. Beautiful hotel. Bar at pool closed way too early. Overall good experience just needs a little tweaking.
- 5/5
This hotel was beautiful conveniently located. The beach being right across the street and the staff awesome! I can’t wait to go back
- 5/5
The Valet Manager was extremely helpful and informative. The receptionist also was very helpful and explaining the amenities offered.
- 5/5
The stay was nice, the spa was amazing and the on site coffee shop was amazing. The Nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch, the room was very clean and comfortable. The pool was nice, and the private beach spot was so convenient and relaxing and the beach attendant was very nice.

4th time we have stayed there since last year.
- 5/5
It’s posh and haunted 👻
- 5/5
Loved our stay here, we drove in for what we thought was the day but decided to stay the night. We are so happy we stayed and will be back again soon!

Loved the old antique vibe

The pool is open until 11 but the swim up bar closes at 8pm on Friday and Saturday which was surprising as the website implys it is open until 11pm. The crew working the pool area was understaffed. They were doing their best to keep up but service was slow. There is no convenient access to water bottles. The room has no fridge or microwave. It is a very nice hotel but for Resort like prices it does not compete. Resorts tend to have everything you need so you dont have to leave. That is not the case here. If you want food or water it is better to order it or get it elsewhere. The restaurant was very good but again service was slow. I called for room service four times from the in room phone and got no answer. So I tried my cell phone and navigated the phone tree to make sure it was not the autodialer on the room phone. Again no answer. So ended up ordering door dash instead. Overall prices were high for poor access and poor service. There is an evening dress code which is fine yet for the restrictions and cost, the perks seemed to be lacking. The one amenity that was nice was the "private" beach. It is not truely private as is stated but that is a minor detail. The hotel provided access to two chairs and an umbrella as needed. This was an underutilized service.

We enjoyed everything!

Great Hotel

Wish more time here to ck out other property amenities.

Had a wonderful stay. The place and staff were amazing

Tv was down to a few channels.
- 5/5
Hotel was amazing. Pool area was super nice. Only small issue not enough valet staff at night getting vehicles. Had to wait 30 minutes for car. Bars were spectacular. Staff super friendly.
- 3/5
No water pressure on the cold water and for the price the room was way to small. Very disappointed.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, well decorated, great food!!
- 5/5
It is the grand Galvez enjoyed the swimming pool and the beauty of my room😍
- 3/5
Staff were incredible, but that’s where the luxury ends. Room was small with limited pillows, towels, and no in-room fridge. Dining options were lacking. Tried the Sunday brunch—at $89 per person, it was a major letdown (3.5/5 at best). For a hotel marketed as “luxury,” I expected much more.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay on our 50th wedding anniversary!
- 5/5
Loved the hotel but noticed there is nothing available late night for snacks or eating. No vending machines or snack kiosks. Not enough incidentials for one day.
- 5/5
It was simply beautiful! The lobby, the room, the bar, the gorgeous pool, and the glimpses of history throughout! It was a great get away.

Only 2 table lamps in room! Definitely not enough light! Refrigerator was so small. It held only a couple of sodas!

While relaxing with drinks in the first floor/lobby chairs we were bothered by numerous flies. Presumably they come in the revolving doors. Very annoying.

The food for just as amazing as the staff!

Nice hotel. Not 4
- 5/5
This is the most beautiful hotel on the island. Great remodeled rooms, great location, gorgeous interior decorations around the resort.. lots of history about this hotel. Love the ease of valet parking (not free) and private access to beach with umbrella and chairs provided by hotel. Only complaints are I wish the pool had more umbrellas (probably 3 or 4 total).. and more staff taking drink and food orders.. pool is pretty small but not bad.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with friendly, and very helpful staff! Very clean! It was our second time staying here, and we will be back!
- 5/5
I had a blast thank you for the great time! Wonderful staff very accommodating they made the trip so much better!
- 5/5
It was great we would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Loved it! Will stay again.

The rest of the Seawall area needs cleaning up. Severally gone down hill, make the owners of all the vacant properties clean them up. Homeless need to be relocated, too much panhandling. Areas around Mexico resorts are cleaner. New city management of the seawall are needed ASAP. Been coming to Galveston for 50 years, now at an all time low!!
- 5/5
Amazing property. So unique and beautiful. There think of everything beach chairs, food, drinks pool. For someone traveling to Galveston from out of town they had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. Highly recommend

Love the Galvez! A must stay if you're in Galveston!
- 2/5
The hotel has a great location with the beach just across the street, and the exterior is cute and photogenic. We enjoyed the bar area, live music, and the on-site restaurants, and the bartender at the pool was really friendly with great drinks. However, the room was disappointing. It was small, had a strange smell, and the air conditioning didn’t work well. We were placed near the elevator, so we heard the elevator button all night, and the walls were very thin — we could hear guests in the hallway and the next room, which made it hard to sleep. The elevators were slow and the rugs inside were dirty. There’s only valet parking, no self-parking option. While the common areas were nice, the quality of the room really took away from the overall experience.

I wasn’t able to get a room, they said a pipe busted when I arrived to check in. I had to go stay at a different crappy hotel.
- 5/5
Last minute booking was quick and was even able to check in early. Staff was polite and made us feel welcomed. Property was clean. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Building is older and our door had to forced closed , lots of poorly done touch ups but over all enjoyed our stay
- 1/5
I was there alone for 2 days. Was never able to get into the pool…. Card wouldn’t work and nobody cared. Couldn’t get there thru the hotel cause they were setting up go “tea at high noon”? Like seriously. I paid 700 to be here and I can’t walk through your little tea area to get to the pool? Restaurant literally mad me lose an entire day vomiting and other unpleasant things. They could care less that I was there and it showed. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
- 1/5
All onsite parking was full. No water pressure in rooms ,broken coffepot , refrigerator, poor ac room was so humid the sheets were damp. Returning to our room witnessed a bar fight spilling out into the lobby. The sunday brunch and waiter were the highpoints of the stay. Definitely would not stay agan or recommend.
- 5/5
Even though we only stayed for a night, we had a lovely experience. Pool area is amazing, the inside bar drinks and bites were great, and breakfast was delicious. We loved the charm of the Grand Galvez!
- 5/5
This is our go-to place! I can’t wait to go again soon with my daughter. This is our get away!
- 3/5
The room was clean and spacious enough for a family of three. The major issue we had and the reason for only three stars is that the beds were terrible. When you’re paying three or four hundred dollars a night for a room, you expect plush, luxurious beds. We didn’t experience that at all. The mattresses were completely worn out to the point where there were deep depressions in the center of the mattresses. My wife and I didn’t get very much sleep the two nights we stayed. I mentioned the terrible beds at checkout and the nice girl at the desk said she would take note but didn’t seem overly concerned. We loved the overall atmosphere of the property but will probably find other accommodations the next time we’re in the area simply due to the beds.

Great place , well maintained
- 5/5
Lovely stay! Beautiful hotel and loved the history! The pool was very inviting and we enjoyed the private beach access.
- 1/5
This place is the worst. They wouldn't let us stay and never refunded our money, even though two managers said they would. They treated us with utmost disrespect. If you want to be treated poorly, stay here. Otherwise , go somewhere else.
- 5/5
Grand valdez was everything we hoped it would be. It is rich in history, like wr walked back into time. Relaxing beyong belief. The staff was absolutely amazing. We felt very pampered and special.

We’ve always loved visiting here. We did have a couple surprises. We weren’t aware of the $25 a day facility fee. When explained at check in we were told a 1 time fee, so we might as well use the beach because we pay for it. Then turned out to be a daily fee at check out. The room is a lot smaller than anticipated. No table for room service, only one night stand, and a tiny bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable, soft but firm. The staff were nice, not very engaging though when asked questions. Normally, it was offered to bring our bags to our room, not a huge deal, but not offered as normal. Room service has also added a large service charge that wasn’t disclosed. The menu has also changed and they offer a lot less (still needing to update the website). I assumed also with a daily facility fee that our room would have been vacuumed and the tub cleaned before we stayed. There was other peoples hair in the tub still. Also gave out a large tip to room cleaning service hoping the next day would be better, they took our coffee cups and never replaced them, haha. Also something small and not an overly big deal. But when you pay for such an expensive room you expect the quality to be there.
- 5/5
It was easy to walk to the beach where they had plenty of loungers set up. Shopping was close by and restaurants were a short walking distance as was the pier.
