Reviews
The hotel receives mixed reviews with guests appreciating the cleanliness, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the outdated facilities, parking issues, and poor breakfast options.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated facilities and decor
- Parking issues and extra charges

Excellent accommodations. Friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet. This hotel is in a nice location in downtown Evanston, convenient to the CTA and Metra train stations and area restaurants.
- 3/5
Price increase 100 dollars a night without notification. Heard other hotel stayers complain but didn't give much thought to it until I received my bill. Saturday night went to the "restaurant" at 8:15 for some food, was told that the kitchen was closed even though they still had a sign outside saying that the restaurant was open 7 days a week to everybody until 10pm. 16 dollars for a very run of the mill breakfast buffet. 84 dollars to park Friday night until Sunday morning.
- 4/5
The hotel is in a nice location to downtown Evanston, the staffs are friendly, the room is big, but the bed is a little soft to sleep in.
- 1/5
Entered the room to a horrible mildew smell. Though we said we had 4 in our party, only 3 towels were included. At 1AM, the smoke detector started chirping. Seems it had been doing this previously as someone before us had tried to put tape over the holes where the sound emitted. We informed staff in the morning and though they said maintenance would look at it, that night the chirping started at 3AM. Horrendous experience.
- 3.5/5
Overall Every thing was ok Elevator need to be replace or fix looks very old and noisy
- 3/5
2) Was told that they ran out of sausage links when it was mentioned that the serving tray was empty Note: the lady serving on the morning of May 31st was more helpful and friendly 3) Front desk could be more helpful and professional 4) Issue with water leaks in the room. Suggesting that a complete inspection of each room to avoid surprises such as flooding on the floor.
- 5/5
Great stay! Staff was very friendly. Parking next door was easy to access. Would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Very good
- 5/5
Polite staff and clean room and property. Good location.
- 5/5
It was amazing! The location was great. You can hear people in neighboring rooms very well (especially in the restroom). It made me feel anxious sometimes!

Second time at this property and again the entire front desk staff did an outstanding job. I will be back again

- 5/5
A nice stay. Convenient location.
- 3/5
Dated room, issues with computer system when checking in which resulted in a long wait.
- 3.5/5
I tried twice to have the room cleaned by the staff and it never happened
- 2/5
The room’s air conditioner made things worse. It was loud and oddly placed, with the vent right next to the bed blowing directly on me all night. The bar experience didn’t help either. My martini was poorly made, and the bartender didn’t seem to know how to prepare a Cosmopolitan, which is a pretty standard cocktail. The room layout was also strange and not very functional. Overall, the hotel feels very worn. The carpet in the room was dirty, and the common areas showed visible signs of neglect. This property is clearly in need of a refresh. Would not stay again.
- 0.5/5
location is the only thing I liked stayed 4 days and room was never done. no safe in room, shower in bath with awkward mechanism, very expensive for no service and unfriendly staff

- 5/5
Everything was great! Except they were ants in the pool area. That was a bit uncomfortable.
- 5/5
I liked how staff was pleasant and friendly. Very easy check-in process. When I called the front desk and was in need of more towels they came right away. Front desk was also great when I was grabbing some late night snacks and drinks. Hotel was clean and and will return if I'm ever in the Chicago area. N/A

Breakfast is very good. Room is okay. Toilet was leaking when flush. Staff was very nice. Nice little gym to workout
- 5/5
Parking was convenient and easy to access. The staff were incredibly helpful. The hotel itself was very quiet and peaceful. Great location within walking distance of several restaurants and stores
- 5/5
The staff was great and helpful. The facility was clean and in great shape with easy access to move around.
- 5/5
It's close to everything, super convenient. The breakfast is fantastic.
- 5/5
Very helpful and engaging front desk staff Breakfast was NOT free and AVG quality. It’s the same breakfast that’s usually offered at no additional charge.
- 3/5
The connecting rooms we had reserved had not been cleaned despite us checking in several hours after 3pm check in. Therefore we were moved to non connected rooms with different size beds than our reservation. Elevator and front door handicap access was not working to automatically open and hold the doors. Not impressed for a Hilton property.
- 3/5
It was convenient and clean. I was chastised by the front desk clerk for not going directly to the hotel to book my reservation. I told her I tried but got attitude from the reservationist. She said that never happened.

My boyfriend came in town from New Jersey to visit Chicago for the very first time! We enjoyed our stay and loved the service and hospitality the hotel staff provides. Without question, I would highly recommend staying at the Hilton Chicago/Evanston hotel for anyone visiting from out of town to spend the weekend or even for locals just passing by!
- 1/5
The hotel is ok and the staff was nice. The parking isn't convenient and staff told me that I shouldn't have to pay in the kiosk after saying it was charged to the room but I still had to. Also there was a homeless person sleeping in the back entrance foyer when we got in. Lastly, despite letting them know that we were only staying 1 night instead of 2, they refused to charge only 1 night because they said I booked through a 3rd part (Expedia). We even paid an extra $45 to check in early at 6:30 AM but checked out the following morning at 5:30 AM and they charged me 2 nights plus the extra $45.

NEVER going back.
- 3/5
Room was fine. Cold air instead of heat in winter. Stopped up sink in bathroom. Shabby looking property
- 4/5
Will stay at this property again
- 4/5
The staff was amazing, overall great experience!
- 4.5/5
Superb
- 5/5
This is the best/affordable hotel in Evanston.
- 5/5
Staff was AMAZING! will definitely come back again
- 4/5
Staff was helpfu, food service good, pool and parking useful. Facility is shabby but clean. Well located and reasonably priced.
- 1/5
There were stains on the curtains, the bed felt like a brick and the pillows felt like they were from the sale bin at Walmart. I do not recommend.
- 4/5
Very good
- 4/5
Bathroom floor was not the cleanest
- 5/5
Cool
- 4/5
Near restaurants and public transportation
- 3/5
The hotel was not as clean as you would expect it. Pool and hot tub were definitely not cleaned well.
- 5/5
Yes
- 3/5
Hotel was fine. No garbage cans in room other than bathroom. Poor lighting. Just commenting so staff is aware. I am not that picky! I will stay here again.
- 5/5
Generally good, clean and nice
- 3/5
Front desk staff on arrival spoke so softly we couldn’t hear. Not welcoming and didn’t give any details about the property. Room was nice with plenty of space.
- 5/5
Great room design and layout! Bathroom door opens outward so you don't have that annoying tight squeeze like most hotel bathrooms. the closet had a standing shelf with drawers and shelves perfect for extended stays. The best was a small counter space that was separate from the desk & TV dresser for up almost like a mini kitchen area with and live that it had had a microwave! Public parking ramp next to hotel is not connected—kind of a challenge to get from one to the other with luggage. And you get charged an extra fee to your hotel bill for using that public ramp. If there was hotel specific parking, it was not well advertised
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 5/5
Convenient location. Great staff.
- 1/5
The general manager is probably needs needs a lot of work on personality disorder. Extremely unfriendly stay there over a month never once said hello to me The Management team there was wonderful except for him
- 5/5
Very clean, incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The ADA room was spacious. Quick elevators. The only criticism was that the floor lamps were a little bright and not adjustable, so they could be a little harsh, but that is a minor complaint. Overall a great stay and we would come back again. Well located, as well.
- 5/5
Kskkdkckc
- 5/5
friendly staff, room was clean, quiet, nice room size for 2 or more people, Wlan was great to work with, convenient to great restaurants and the walk to the University is just 10min. Parking over night is next door for a fee of 24 Dollars, which was good. continental breakfast would be nice to have to make it easier in the morning when you plan to visit the University
- 0.5/5
Convenient location. A random person attempted to enter the room with a key card when we were in the room. Luckily, the door bar prevented full entry. Staff was unhelpful and no police report was made. Staff found the person and escorted her out of the hotel. They were unable to discern how woman entered the hotel. There are no cameras on the floors only at the entrance.

The room was clean. In a convenient area. Just a normal hotel.
- 2/5
the snack bar is over priced. Service is just ok.
- 4/5
All was as expected.
- 4/5
Hotel location and staff were 10/10. Foyer area really nice and bright. Gym decent weights and cardio and a bonus Peloton bike. Plenty of nice coffee shops and eateries. Easy access to downtown on the train. Easy walk to Northwestern campus and lake. Really peaceful place. Bathroom very dated and not great shower / tub etc
- 3/5
Staff was ok
- 0.5/5

- 5/5
The staff at Hilton is fantastic. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone
- 3/5
Pleasant
- 5/5
Room was spotless and the staff were courteous. My only issue is with Expedia’s lack of clear disclosure that parking is not free — hiding that in the fine print feels misleading.
- 5/5
It would have been nice to have discounted parking for guests, but the parking garage was not too bad.
- 5/5
Good place, much fun Town was kinda dead. Not y'all fault tho.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
I thought that overall, everything was great!
- 5/5
Great staff!
- 5/5
I did not order breakfast. Everything else was good.
- 5/5
Room was fantastic. Staff was friendly. Only downfall was the pump in the hot tub didnt really work.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect! The view wasn't great, but otherwise everything was great.
- 3/5
Front desk staff was courteous. Restaurant servers need some work.
- 5/5
Everything and everyone was really good
- 5/5
Front desk was kind and helpful. Housekeeping great!
- 5/5
Clean N/A
- 3/5
Staff communication was not good. Hotel tried to charge extra $ for early check-in even though it was not even close to being at full occupancy. Wifi was really poor. I have stayed at this hotel at least 10 times and it has never been this bad.? is it new management?
- 4/5
One minor negative comment, there is insufficient lighting in the rooms.
- 0.5/5
The affordability Lied and made it seem like it was impossible to change the dates for my stay when it’s rooms available on New Years
- 5/5
The room was very nice, I received texts from the staff throughout my stay to check on me. Would definitely recommend.
- 4/5
Room was clean and the staff was helpful.
- 5/5
Nice location . Breakfast can be improved . Everything else was fine.
- 5/5
Great desk and bar staff!
- 3/5
The restaurant service, the service was so slow I thought I had been forgotten. When I asked about my food, only then was I told that there was a power outage. My food arrived cold and missing items. By the time I got the syrup for my waffle, it was cold and I had lost my appetite. Everything seemed to be difficult for my server, yet another table ordered the same meal as mine and his appeared fresher and without hard, dried sausages.
- 5/5
Great service!!
- 5/5
Exceptional staff and comfortable stay. Always our choice of hotel when in Evanston.
- 5/5
Clean room and very nice staff.

- 5/5
Always nice to stay here when I'm in Evanston,
- 5/5
we were so happy to find this place and discover all the amenities and the lovely staff and just the comfort all around was so wonderful
- 3/5
Staff was a bit short. And the bathroom sink did not drain well. Other than that, it was fine.
- 5/5
Friendly, courteous staff.
- 4/5
Very nice bedroom and everything seems professional. A very quiet and well maintained place. Parking, while it's not directly managed by the hotel, is not that straightforward. You have to access the parking building from outside the hotel.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Pool and hot very nice.
- 3.5/5
Clean and comfortable bed. Safe environment and location in Evanston. Room was too cold. We couldn’t get the temperature comfortable using the thermostat.
- 2/5
1) The room was dim 2) The mattress is awful 3) The key card never worked properly - always had to swipe it 2 or 3 times to open the door 4)Shower curtain was not wide enough for proper coverage during a shower
- 5/5
Very nice, clean, quiet and comfortable hotel. I would come back here in the future.
- 5/5
clean room
- 2/5
John, the manager, is terrible and lied directly to me. There are several pleasant good staff but the management is poor.
- 5/5
Amazing service, definitely coming back!
- 4/5
Breakfast service was very good and the staff was friendly and great
- 3.5/5
Too expensive for the quality of the hotel and the rooms. Mattress in bad shape. I don’t like having to ask for the room to be cleaned every day. They don’t clean it unless you ask.
- 3.5/5
great location linked to a parking value for money and facilities
- 5/5
Always nice to stay here, Friendly staff and walkable neighborhood.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay. Our room was sizable and the beds were comfortable but unfortunately the room, especially the bathroom, smelled like feet. The air conditioning was slightly over- or underpowered too. The front desk attendant was one of the nicest, friendliest women ever. Kudos to her! And Toni in the restaurant was extremely friendly as well. The food there was fine, average. Hotel is a great location for visiting Evanston/Northwestern.
- 3/5
Just good conditions
- 5/5
The front desk staff made me feel like a VIP
- 5/5
Room was very clean
- 5/5
Clean and efficient, great affordable location near Northwestern campus and many shops and restaurants. The gym and hot tub were great, but the pool is pretty small. Breakfast was also very good. Would overall recommend this hotel.
- 4/5
cleanliness was good. poor lighting in room
- 5/5
Fairly new hotel in excellent location. Easy walk to Northwestern Campus, CTA and Metra train stations (trips to downtown Chicago), and lots of dining and shopping options,
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
I was only here, overnight to attend a funeral. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and provided great customer service. The only mishap was the coffee making in my room, didn't work, but that was no big deal. Great Hotel!
- 2/5
Room key didn’t work
- 4/5
Cool
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful!
- 5/5
I recommend staying there if you’re looking for a quiet place.
- 4/5
Rooms were large and seemed very modern and clean. Rooms were serviced only every other day. TV was erratic - I wasn’t able to tune in to half the stations they had on their channel guide. Close to walk to the Davis metro station. Chilis across the street and a couple good breakfast restaurants down the block. Seemed very safe.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing & hotel was very clean + convenient to train.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was convenient and close to everything we needed.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Great, friendly staff and very clean property
- 5/5
2nd stay very nice
- 5/5
It was clean and comfortable. Only negative thing for me was the tub was very slippery. It did have a grab bar but probably needs an anti slip coating on the bottom
- 4/5
Very nice hotel in Evanston. We chose the hotel because it was an easy walk to the Metra station. The property and room were in good condition and the room was reasonably clean. The only compliant I have is the air conditioning vent is very close to the bed resulting in trying to sleep in constant air flow. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Several restaurants are in easy walking distance. There’s also a nice farmer’s market very close by.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and very convenient to the local shopping and dining district. I really enjoyed my stay.
- 2/5
I chose this hotel for its location, as it’s close to where my daughter was moving in. However, the first impression was jarring: I arrived just before midday to find the hotel’s main entrance doors locked. I’ve never encountered that at any hotel before. The limited services were another letdown. The “light touch housekeeping every other day” policy was not communicated at the time of booking or check-in. On top of that, Wi-Fi was only available to Hilton Honors members or those who booked directly through Hilton’s website. In today’s world, that feels unnecessarily restrictive. As a frequent traveler and a loyal member of both Marriott and Hyatt, I’ve come to expect a certain standard of services similar to those received in Marriott or Hyatt hotels, even in their low cost brands—and this stay did not meet it. Overall, I found the experience to be poor value for the money.
- 4/5
The hotel is clean and staff was very nice Room was clean and spacious. Tge foid was good at the the restaurant especially breakfast. Parking was not convenient especially if you are by yourself as the parking lot is not attached to the hotel.or have difficulty walking. Then the pillow Rex and bed were super soft. Both of us woke up with neck aches. The hotel is great if going to the college but not if you try to get out to Chicago downtown fast. Love the area for old posh city life
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
The stay was extremely nice. We enjoyed the convenience of everything close by
- 3/5
I had to call the front desk because there were dead bugs in the bed. There was also someone else's long black hair in the shower. I wouldn't stay again. I also felt the front desk was understaffed, causing a long wait.
- 5/5
Location - Cleanliness - close packing - friendly staff.
- 5/5
Property is conveniently located near our family in Evanston.
- 4/5
Clean and convenience location near many restaurants and shops. Close to the transit plenty of parking.
- 3/5
Very poor selection for breakfast and expensive!
- 3/5
There was no parking
- 5/5
Solo trip was great.Bed could be a little softer and pillows could be a little thicker had to stack 3 up and still wasn't enough so I had to use my arm and had to put forth pillow under my waist because the bed was too hard but other than that everything else about the room and hotel was great
- 2/5
Poor service
- 2/5
Staff was not helpful or friendly. The room was fine, definitely not worth the money. Won’t be staying there again.
- 1/5
Horrible place to stay
- 5/5
Excellent location. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
Reasonable priced for where it's at. Clean and comfortable.
- 4/5
Rooms are good, industry standard. Clean rooms, great location and nice staff. Had breakfast buffet for $16 all you can eat and the food was really good. Complaints: broken ice machine on our floor, hot tub sucks - no jets so it was like sitting in a hot bath. Pool is ok - kind of small. Parking is good $18 per night. Very walkable area!
- 4/5
Decent stay. Breakfast was good but very limited options. There’s also a shuttle to take you around the city which is convenient
- 4/5
Pretty hotel lobby and common areas. Beds weren’t new or pillow top but fairly comfortable. Lighting wasn’t the best in the room (I did not mind but husband sure did) Zero overhead lights, 1 small floor lamp in living area, with a small desk light on desk in living area, 2 bedside reading lights hooked to headboard, 1 small floor lamp on one side of bed and a lighted mirror in bathroom. (I know thats enough about lighting but it can matter to some people with vision issues). Luckily we had huge windows we could see out of these easily since we had a Jr. Suite. Buffet breakfast was decent, we could always find something for breakfast which was all we were concerned with. Wait staff at restaurant was very nice. Front desk staff and maids were all very nice and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it for other travelers. We didn’t not use weight room or swimming pool so can’t give highlights on these. We are 66 yo female/69 yo male travelers for your reference regarding hotel review. Happy Travels!!
- 4/5
I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. One of the standout features was how quiet and uncrowded it was, which made for a peaceful and relaxing experience. I felt very safe throughout my stay, both in the hotel and the surrounding area.
- 5/5
Convenient to everything
- 5/5
Great pool, great environment ! What a day!
- 2/5
Will look for a cheaper place next visit. Ugh.
- 3/5
Room door broken and did not latch. Slow and bouncy elevators. No free breakfast. No free parking. Rat feces on chairs in outdoor lounge area by the pool. Less than friendly staff.
- 3/5
Vegy bad checkin experience. Property is ok, not great. Kind of old. Location is the only reason i would recommend this, otherwise not great at all.
- 5/5
I have stayed at this location multiple times & I am always pleased. The staff gave me a little shade for booking through a 3rd party but was not rude. I will stay here again when needed.
- 4/5
Central location for Evanston, close to downtown. Basic hotel with good amenities at a fair price.
- 4/5
We had a good stay.
- 1/5
nothing is good
- 3/5
Breakfast was bad
- 5/5
Great people providing terrific hospitality!
- 5/5
Very convenient to walk to ev
- 5/5
decor is average, not very nice, but VERY CLEAN and great front desk staff.
- 5/5
Nice staff
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 4/5
The staff was very nice not that informative. No information provided by staff about amenities and location of amenities. They were accommodating
- 3/5
The bed linens are old and need update Lights in the rooms too
- 5/5
Raul at the front desk is truly exceptional! He was so kind and helpful. Lucky to have him as an employee
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
Pleasant fast and efficient check in process.
- 4/5
Clean, updated property. Our heating/cooling system did not work properly.
- 5/5
Nice hotel. Nice stay. Thank you.
- 5/5
The room was quiet, and the bed was so comfy! And thank you for having hot tea! Thank you.
- 2/5
I parked in the garage and did not get a ticket to get in due to the printer being out of paper. So the attendant let me in the garage without a receipt. I had to get the car out to get something within 10 minutes of checking in and I was not able because I needed a receipt. The hotel charged me $25 to get out with a parking pass while the garage charges $16. The parking shoule be complementary and it’s a total sham to charge for parking.
- 2/5
Really glad I was only staying for one night.
- 5/5
The staff made everything so easy and the room was very clean. No problem at all. Would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
A very great day! The staff was wonderful, the room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.!
- 5/5
Great customer service
- 4/5
The gal at the front desk when I checked in was awesome! I am from out of town and she was EXTREMELY helpful! Thanks!
- 4/5
Parking garage next door, several dining options within a 5 minute walk. The breakfast at the hotel was very reasonably priced .
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
The staff was simply wonderful.
- 5/5
Great service and location.
- 5/5
Raul did an excellent job handling multiple check ins by himself. Very sw3t disposition, and very knowledgeable. Thank you Raul!
- 4/5
Propeety is clean and in good shape. Staff is limited
- 4/5
Really nice!
- 4/5
………….
- 5/5
Exceeded my expectation!!
- 5/5
In a very nice area, hotel is very clean and staff is polite. Definitely will stay here again. This was a last minute stay due to a family member being admitted into a hospital close by. It was such a relief how nice this hotel is.
- 5/5
Rooms were well appointed and clean. Bathrooms simple but nice. TV kept glitching but maybe the weather. Great hotel to access Northwestern. Gym was good size & benefit of Peleton bike. Good cardio and weights.
- 3/5
We slept well but in the morning went to take a shower and there was pubic hair on the shower curtain and no conditioner in the conditioner bottle. Also, the parking information that the front desk gave us was inaccurate
- 5/5
Great!
- 4/5
The cleaning staff was very loud in the morning - before 7am when a lot of folks were still sleeping. Also the elevator to the parking garage was out of service for the three days we were there which meant walking a block outside - they should let people know that when they book in the event they have mobility issues.
- 4/5
When I took shower, find out the bath tab is clogged. The house keeping department needs pay attention on this.
- 5/5
All the staff provided excellent customer service. The driver for the van, I think his name is Sandro, was pleasant and helped us keep to our schedule. Thank you sir! We would definitely stay at this Hilton Garden Inn again. 😊
- 5/5
Convenient location to Northwestern University. Walkable to restaurants.
- 5/5
Very clean rooms. Quiet and easily accessible from the parking garage
- 5/5
Very nice hotel in a terrific location. Walking distance to all things in Evanston including train station to Chicago. 10 min walk to NW University.
- 5/5
Liked the multiple common areas for sitting and relaxing.
- 2/5
Garage had no connection indoors to the hotel. And you were charged for parking. That’s unheard of.
- 4/5
The stay at Hilton Evanston was note worthy, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the property, especially the room amid the natural deterioration of the hotel, any hotel for that matter. I had a really nice encounter with one of the staff members, that I thought was extremely kind (complimentary parking for the duration of my stay). The space was quiet and comfy enough… the only qualm was the mattress, Hilton would benefit from investing in better mattresses. Otherwise, it was a decent stay at an affordable cost.
- 5/5
Fix the business center.
- 5/5
The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to many restaurants, stores, and Northwestern. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly. I was amazed by how quiet our room was, considering the train is very close by. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
So I got very steamy and was also cold. And the lighting in the front living room was terrible. It was two small LED lamps with a terribly fluorescent light.
- 5/5
Our room was lovely--very clean, comfortable and spacious. We really enjoyed everything about the entire hotel, especially the location and the very reasonable parking.

Perfect for pet parents!!! The whole staff is incredibly kind and genuinely excited to see you and your pup coming! We stay here every time we’re back home visiting family :) from Hawai’i.
