Reviews
The hotel is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and convenient location, particularly for those visiting Duke Medical Center. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful. However, some guests have noted issues with parking, noise, and the lack of certain amenities like in-room coffee makers and breakfast.
- Convenient location, particularly for Duke Medical Center
- Exceptional cleanliness
- Limited parking and tight spaces
- Noise from traffic, elevators, or other guests

Minor problem was the drain plug on the tub didn't work so you can't take baths.
- 4/5
Rooms were clean and big. Bathrooms were tight. All in all a good spot
- 4/5
My room was clean but could hear everything in the hallway going on. Most of the staff was pleasant aside from one person at check in that seemed to be a curt. I try to give grace as who knows what she may have going on but it was two interactions like that.
- 4/5
The facilities were fine, clean and hospitable. No bells or whistles.
- 4/5
Please be aware that a $10 per day parking fee is required at check-in. The parking spaces are small making it hard to park!
- 4/5
Located two blocks from Duke University Hospital, this hotel caters to those visiting or being treated at the hospital. I appreciated the signage reminding guests of quiet hours for those resting or recuperating. The in-room refrigerator is large enough to have a real freezer space, and the convenience offerings in the lobby include microwaveable dinners. It's clean and comfortable, but not fancy. It was just what I needed before and after my surgery.
- 4/5
This hotel is nice. I booked it without reading the info as I should have. I had two teenagers with me and I didn't realize there was no pool. I booked solo on the location being my kids had events. No complimentary breakfast. They don't offer military discounts. I dropped the ball on this one.
- 4/5
I had surgery at Duke and the hotel was close and when contacted, I was assured they had a recliner in their suite room category. The room was clean an worked for our needs. The room was huge. We were able to check in earlier and that was nice since I had just had out patient surgery. It was a very minimal room. I thought getting a suite would include a kitchenette. It had a sink, microwave and fridge. But, the room had lots of empty space where a kitchenette could have been. There was no breakfast options unless we wanted to buy cookies. I thought the cost of the room was high. My husband and I have stayed in less expensive rooms that were nicer.
- 4/5
I liked the closeness to the Duke Medical Pavillion where I was visiting. It's literally a walking distance.
- 5/5
Very clean room and spacious. Easy access to rooms. Quiet. Excellent location to hospital and clinics. Would definitely stay again.

The staff was very friendly. The air conditioner did not cool as it should have, and as I checked in was told since I booked through a 3rd party I had to pay 30.00 for parking. The TV was very small.

Very clean and comfortable. The pet fee was more than other places and had I known it ahead of time, I would have chosen a different hotel. Also the cable TV selection was lacking.

Nice, clean room, quiet and peaceful Always good
- 4/5
No frills but perfectly serviceable property. Clean. Dated but well maintained overall - lack of carpeting in hallways amplifies the noise. Front desk staff generally disinterested. Parking not an issue but covered spaces under the building (surface level) can be super tight so just be aware if you are driving an SUV or larger vehicle.
- 4/5
Room was clean and quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Close to Duke

They charge extra for parking if you booked from other places other than their website, which it was a surprise.

Very clean and spacious room. Would book here again. The front desk staff was not very friendly. One safety risk I didn't like was the parking pass you get has your room number on it and is displayed on your dashboard. Anyone walking by could see that and just walk in the hotel and gonstaright to your room. This definitely needs to be changed.

Terrible service! We chose this hotel bc it was conveniently located across the street from the hospital. The reason we needed to stay was because our father was called in for transplant. My sister and I spent the night at the hospital with our dad bc it was required for us to be there. Our mother and my nephews stayed at said hotel. Giving that we booked online we were charged for parking that was not listed at time of booking. Fortunately the day time receptionist did credit that back. Upon check out we were charged for 6 people all charged as adults, which there was only 4 (1 adult and 3 children) who stayed at the hotel (room with 2 double beds) but the night receptionist said she saw 6 adults. To access the room you have to walk in to the lobby and the receptionist obviously can’t count. We were charged extra bc a room with 2 double beds can only accommodate 2 people? Which also was not listed at time of booking. This appears to be a very old hotel but has been updated inside but if they want to keep business they should act accordingly bc we could have very well got better treatment next door to them! The staff need to be evaluated for finger counting. Apparently that skill isn’t required for the job. It’s apparent that they like to take advantage of people that are obviously staying there to be across from the hospital. Parking is $20!!! It is less than that for valet @ the hospital. Do better!
- 5/5
As described.
- 4/5
convenient
- 2/5
The location and affordability are excellent. However, the mattresses were of very poor quality. On both beds, the mattresses sagged in the middle, and every night we dreaded going to sleep because my family and I knew we would wake up with sore backs, shoulders, or necks. The establishment really needs to invest in firmer mattresses.
- 4/5
It's pet friendly that I didn't pay attention on the booking.
- 3/5
Great location. The shuttle does not run on weekends.
- 3/5
Dissapointed in our old faithful.
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff very helpful.
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff very helpful.
- 5/5
Ideal for student familles and visitors to the medical center No onsite restaurant but a pantry where you can buy basic microwave meals . We stayed in a suite which was twice the size of a normal hotel room with a kitchenette and a sofa bed .
- 5/5
Yep
- 4/5
Unfortunately, the wall are extremely, extremely thin.
- 4/5
Wood floor.
- 1/5
The room was infested with roaches. Had to wake up at 3am to catch a flight, didn't even take a shower. I've never seen anything like this even at the cheapest motels. Roaches everywhere: kitchen, shower.
- 3/5
Room is clean
- 5/5
$10 self-parking per day.
- 3/5
Not a single amenity available Only 2 towels for room of 4. Shampoo and conditioner bottles were empty and never was refilled despite room cleaning. No coffee machines in room. Loud noise in corridor and sound transmit a lot from adjacent rooms. Shuttle service was plus but only on weekdays. Overall ok and quiet place.
- 5/5
We go to Durham to visit our daughter at school there, and we just sleep and shower there. This hotel is clean, comfortable and conveniently located. Staff is nice. Covered parking for $0-$5/night depending on which platform you reserve with.
- 5/5
It is not a luxury property, but you’re not paying luxury prices. Good value for the money. Its location is ideal for anyone who is doing business with the hospital.
- 5/5
The room was very tidy and we were very satisfied with the room
- 5/5
My husband and I had a very pleasant stay in University Inn Durham. The bed was comfortable, the chair and leg rest were a nice touch. Everything was clean and the air conditioner was whisper quiet throughout the night.
- 3/5
When you allow dogs to stay on your property. The owners should be told that they can't leave them in the room by themselves if they aren't use to being by themselves. A dog was left by itself and barked for two hour disturbing everybody else.
- 4/5
The Inn is quiet, which I appreciated. The room I stayed in was very clean, but there were signs of water damage around the bathroom ceiling, and there is visible mold growing in the bathroom on the ceiling about the shower. Overall, staff is welcoming, kind, and accommodating.
- 5/5
Large room, comfortable bed, kind staff, very clean.
- 5/5
Very convenient to hospital. Staff friendly and helpful. Room well kept spacious and clean. Older building so walls a bit thin and hallways lack carpeting so it can be a bit noisy at times. Overall for the price it is a well placed place to stay.
- 5/5
Solid & affordable choice, close to the hospital and clinics.
- 3/5
No breakfast orovuded, room was just okay. Staff wasn't very friemdly yoy pay to park.
- 3/5
Very Noisy. People in the next room were not talking loudly, but it felt like they were our room.
- 5/5
Room was clean. Especially enjoyed the free shuttle to Duke Medical and nearby restaurants. Easy check-in

Room was in good condition. Staff was friendly. Parking was bad, they charged small space.

Clean room, friendly staff. Not luxury but perfectly fine. Central location - in between Duke University and the town of Durham.

- 5/5
Cleanliness.
- 5/5
The staff was wonderful!!! Everyone i meant was so pleasant. My room was always clean. Having coffee always available was nice too. The little shopping store was really nice that they had for my mothers late night snack. And having coffee always available was wonderful too.
- 4/5
Room was big and clean. Staff was super nice!
- 5/5
The staff were nice and it was a really nice hotel. The only thing I hated was that you had to pay for parking.
- 5/5
Clean room and staff. The only issue was that the room down the hallway left the room and their alarm was going off even when I checked out at 0830.
- 3/5
Parking was terrible. Not enough space and had to pay for parking although was not listed in the description. Very clean from the inside out. Room had a weird layout although spacious. Toilet and shower in one room and the sink across the hall. No breakfast.
- 5/5
The room was clean and the staff were welcoming and helpful! Thanks so much for a relaxing stay.
- 5/5
Room was very clean. Area is safe & quiet

I had a wonderful room with a king sized bed. The room was spacious and ver clean. The heat worked well. It was also very close to the VA hospital where I was seeing my brother.
- 5/5
Great bang for the buck. Close and convenient to everything Duke. Friendly staff, clean room, and free shuttle service.
- 5/5
Clean room and a quiet location.
- 5/5
Nice and clean.
- 5/5
This is my go-to hotel when I visit Duke University. It is very clean, and the rooms are great—plenty of room, comfortable, quiet. I only wish the parking spaces were a little wider, but I feel safe having my car parked there anyway.
- 4/5
There are no amenities, there’s free coffee in the lobby but no coffee maker in the rooms. Hotel is very clean, beds are comfortable, staff is very pleasant. If you pay through a 3rd party (like Expedia) you have to pay $10 extra for parking. There aren’t a lot of options within walking distance of the hotel in case you want a drink or something to eat.
- 5/5
This is an excellent hotel for the price. The staff was friendly, the room clean and comfortable, and the location is great. We will stay here in the future!
- 4/5
There is a parking fee that they charge when you arrive that we did not know about. They charge $10.00 to park in their lot when you stay with them, in addition to the price to stay in their hotel.
- 5/5
Staff were very helpful.
- 5/5
Everything but the staff at the front desk. She was not friendly. Poor hospitality.
- 5/5
Nice staff, great access to the city!
- 5/5
Spacious with fridge and microwave and great shower
- 5/5
Excellent staff. Spotlessly clean. Bed is so comfortable. Peaceful.
- 5/5
And the proximity to Duke Cancer Center was a big plus! Each room had a refrigerator and microwave. And the common area had a pantry, offering beverages, microwaveable meals and snacks.
- 5/5
All above
- 5/5
Clean and spacious room. Comfortable beds and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Room was large and well cleaned - staff friendly and professional

- 5/5
Room was much bigger than I expected!! Was clean and comfortable
- 5/5
Clean room, the staff was nice

Excellent hotel close to Duke University
- 1/5
There was no heat the unit would blow cold air out when you had the heat on I went down to the front office and was told they couldn't help me I had 2 kids and my wife with me made my experience horrible
- 2/5
Very basic, like a Motel 8. Dark vinyl flooring. No decor. While it did have fridge & microwave and bed was comfortable, it was not a warm, inviting room. The bathtub was very, very slick & dangerous. No grab bars. There was a rolled up rubber mat that I discovered after I got in the shower, but the ends curled up after it was laid in the shower. The water temperature was difficult to modulate. No coffee in the room. TV was good, but volume was too soft & couldn't be raised sufficiently. I guess this hotel is primarily used for patients & families using Duke Medical Center. Price was exhorbitant for the quality of motel & parking cost an additional $10.☹️
- 5/5
Clean & comfortable with plenty of room
- 4/5
nice and spacious room. desk was personed around the clock. there were not many food options in the area, but some were in walking distance. friendly staff.
- 4/5
Very good price and convenient to Duke University and surroundings. Clean comfortable rooms. No restaurant, no frills. Two ladies at the front desk were very rude, poor attitude towards us as guests. Other staff were great.
- 5/5
Clean room, air conditioning works great,
- 4/5
This hotel caters to folks using Duke hospital. Rooms are large & include a fridge in the sitting area. & microwave. There is no restaurant, which was my main problem. There are snacks and a few frozen microwave meals for sale at double the usual price in the lobby. The hotel does offer a free shuttle service within 3 miles, which is wonderful as the area is busy and confusing and parking is difficult.
- 4/5
no
- 3/5
The room was immaculately clean. The tub and toilet area are very small but serve their purpose. The hotel was noisy which were sure is attributed to the plank flooring instead of carpeting. There was a disturbance while we were there that required the police to be called which was concerning. We didn't sleep very much because of the noise carrying through the hallways. We were really surprised to be so disappointed.
- 3/5
floor weeped water between the bath area and the sink had to pay for parking no breakfast provided really?
- 5/5
Very clean
- 3/5
Pillows were terrible
- 3/5
The bathroom wasn’t much bigger than on an airplane.
- 5/5
Large rooms and very clean. Would return.
- 5/5
This room was perfect for an overnight stay while my husband was in the hospital. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel was a short walk to the hospital.
- 3/5
The propert went through some updates. The staff at the checking was pleasant. The bed was comfortable but the ac unit was set on default and we couldn't lower the temp. The room got too warm during the night. Plus, our room was next the elevator and every time the evaluator moved the machinery made some noise.
- 5/5
It was an amazing experience! Nice room, nice people, and nice services. The shuttle to and from Duke is awesome. Definitely will stay again here!
- 5/5
Flexible with customer. Helpful staff
- 5/5
The friendly service and the cleanliness go far beyond what a person might expect for the price. These folks earn their success.
- 3/5
I had to pay extra for parking. The TV was not working. However, the room was VERY clean
- 4/5
Thin floors and walls. I could hear each person walk down the hallway. And light shown all around my door not sealing tightly. The room was clean and comfortable. Service was very pleasant and quick for both check in and check out.
- 5/5
Front desk staff were kind and attentive, especially Cherise
- 4/5
very convient to DUKE MEDICAL CNT ONLY 4 MINITUES TO MEDICAL CIRCLE STAFF VERY FRIEDLY CLOSE TO DINNING LOCATION ONLY PROBLEM FOUND BATHROOM TO BE VERY TIGHT
- 4/5
Very clean, seems to have been renovated/updated very recently. Rooms were spacious. It was a convenient in-between location for meetings in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. While the staff wasn’t very friendly initially, the woman who checked me in was kind and graciously moved me when my neighbors continued to blast their TV, which brings me to my biggest concern: the whole place has LVP for the floors, which makes for a very clean and nice look but doesn’t do much for sound. Overall, I feel mixed- I would consider staying again, though.
- 5/5
Very close to Duke University Hospital.
- 3/5
I got a room with a door to the next room. It was very uncomfortable and even embarrassing being able to hear her and to know she could hear me.
- 5/5
Staff were very friendly. Check in was easy. Parking was convenient.
- 5/5
Very clean. Comfortable beds, nicely updated property.
- 4/5
Not very friendly front desk reception
- 5/5
no breakfast but free shuttle to duke and downtown durham
- 3/5
The room and halls smelled very clean and I had a good experience at reception. The hard floors are pretty loud, and I could hear every word spoken in the room joined to mine. Surprised they charge for parking given the cost to stay per night, but they do list that on the site. Overall, it was fine.
- 5/5
Great hotel!
- 5/5
Amazed about them having shuttle service. Made a stressful dr appt easier. Staff super friendly.
- 5/5
Has a very convenient shuttle to take you where you need to be at the hospital.
- 5/5
Always the best cleanest hotel ever. A+
- 5/5
Safe, quiet, walkable to campus, easy parking
- 5/5
I will most certainly be staying here again. It’s very convenient to the hospital
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay!
- 5/5
Short walk to Duke Eye Clinic, just a few blocks off interstate. This was our 2nd stay. Will be back in August 26. Great place to stay!
- 5/5
After a long and stressful day at the hospital, it was great to fall into a comfy bed. I love that it was walking distance from the hospital.
- 4/5
Property was really nice. Our only problem was the A/C was not working properly. Overall a nice stay.
- 3/5
Posting one price then changing $10.00 to park at the hotel was an insult.
- 3/5
The room was nice. Clean. Good shower pressure. The air conditioner didn’t cool. Made for a hot and uncomfortable sleep.
- 5/5
The assortment of food and drink items for use in room was excellent.
- 5/5
I like the friendliness of the staff, the close proximity to Duke Hospital, and the free shuttle service to the hospital. The rooms are nice and clean. The bed is a little hard and the pillows were a little lumpy and small. I also like the quiet hours during the nice. Good service.

Very friendly staff and convenient location and transportation services from the hotel all over the country area.
- 5/5
excellent place to live in Duke.
- 5/5
This is perhaps one of the cleanest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. The beds are very comfortable and the shower is powerful. The staff is friendly and the room was cleaned every day! Much better than anticipated!
- 5/5
Great staff, super convenient. Big room with great AC. Great value for the price.
- 1/5
I requested that a crib be placed in my room prior to booking. Upon arrival I was told at the front desk that they seen my request but they only had one baby crib in the hotel and it was being used. They had another one but it was broken. The front desk staff did not make any attempts at fixing the situation. I had to ask for extra pillow cases and push the bed up against the wall to put on the bed to make a barrier so my baby would not fall off the bed. There was also a $10 additional fee for parking that I was not informed about until I arrived. The parking spot were very small.
- 5/5
Suited me perfectly….
- 4/5
Small bathroom
- 5/5
Shuttle service. Yummy muffins.

- 5/5

- 5/5
This was a fine place for us to stay within 2 blocks of Duke University Hospital. The staff were extremely nice and worked with us on our nightly stay as we didn't know how long we would be there. Free coffee downstairs and the room was huge! I have no complaints about the University Inn Durham.
- 4/5
Stayed for one night - hotel was nice. There is an additional fee for parking.
- 3/5
Room was fine. Ironically, place had a hospital feel. Very bare bones, no gym, no real amenities. Helpful staff
- 5/5
We loved this hotel! It was spotless, quiet, spacious, and kind. We appreciate the water bottle filler and snack options in the lobby as well as the separate shower & sink areas and ample fridge space in the rooms!
- 5/5
These rooms are spacious, clean and alltogether comfy. We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Excellent stay
- 5/5

Very convenient
- 5/5
The front staff was friendly and efficient. The cleanliness was on point. Excellent job!
- 1/5
I accidentally booked the incorrect date. Neither customer service or the website were helpful. Cost an extra $25.
- 5/5
One of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed at and very friendly and accommodating staff. Only thing I missed was an in room coffee maker even though the room had a kitchette. They provide complimentary coffee but u have to go down to the lobby
- 1/5
The pictures don’t represent reality.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Everything was wonderful. It was clean, very quiet.Excellent shuttle service every morning.Couldn't ask for a nicer place !
- 5/5
Well maintained and very conveniently located to Duke Medical Center and University.
- 3/5
Inside the hotel was nice and the staff was fantastic. Parking was terrible. Very limited and spaces barely big enough to park a car. Rooms were very nice and up to date. But the entire hotel is hardwood floors which meant hearing every sound made though out the floor which meant out infant was woke up all night. Other than that, location is very convenitient to the hospital.
- 3/5
Parking very tight
- 5/5
Staff was excellent! Friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Nice stay. Very quiet
- 4/5
For everyone I interacted with in the very social reception area, it was the proximity to the hospital that brought them to this inn. , same for me, but the feature that I appreciated most because of the new sickness that has been ruling my days for the past 6 mos., vertigo, Ireally was grateful for that 1,5 min. shuttle. The two desk clerks I worked with went above and beyond to be kind and helpful, and it was obvious with the frequently returning guests
- 5/5
The room and common spaces were very clean. The shuttle service is fantastic. If you're looking for a place to stay near the Duke Medical Center or West Campus, it's a great place to be!
- 2/5
This is a place of last resort. No lobby, not near any places to eat
- 5/5
Our room was great, very large but he bathroom was quite small. Shuttle to Duke Medical was great and easy to access.

There was no food other than pay as you go fruit and small pastries.
- 3/5
Conveniently located. Very small lobby and parking lot is tight—difficult for large vehicles.
- 5/5
A great place to stay especially if you are receiving medical Care at Duke. The in-house shuttle service has made this our stay at place anytime we go to Duke. Exceptional customer service.
- 3/5
Hotel itself was great. Clean spacious room with nice amenities: recliner, couch, microwave, fridge. What was NOT great was the garbage truck pickup right outside my window at 4am with the huge dumpster repeatedly banging on the truck and on the ground.
- 4/5
Nice, clean facility. No complete breakfast though.
- 5/5
Clean, efficient, convenient, and fairly priced. Good for a night before or after a stay at Duke Hospital.
- 5/5
Great Motel, service was great , would stay there again
- 5/5
Very convenient to Duke Medical Center
- 5/5
Beautiful flooring as well as rooms. Very clean. Pillows are comfortable.
- 5/5
Convenient to Duke Hospital; clean, updated rooms. Not fancy, but hit all the marks.
- 4/5
This hotel was exactly what we needed. Our daughter had surgery at Duke University Hospital and the hotel was literally across the street.
- 5/5
Always stay here when I have hospital appointments. The shuttle to and from my appointments is my primary reason for staying hrre
- 5/5
Close to hospital
- 5/5
We were in Durham for a quick weekend visit of our Duke student. The hotel is just 2.5 miles from her downtown Durham apartment. The rooms are spacious. They have mini refrigerators and a microwave. The beds are very firm with good pillows and towels. We were there for one of the winter storms (2-3” of snow) and it was very nice that our car could be left in the covered parking lot (which has great night time lighting). This is my second time there. No amenities, but I’m not going to Durham for the hotel amenities. I sleep there and get ready to leave for the day there. It does have a tiny market in the lobby, which was a lifesaver for us the day of the storm when we had headed out for dinner, and then quickly realized it was getting bad to be out on the roads, so we turned around and bought frozen meals and noodle soup and had a cozy dinner in our room until the storm and snow clean up was over.
- 5/5
Parking is a challenge
- 5/5
Convenient hotel with huge rooms, very comfortable, great shuttle (only runs Mon-Fri) Really nice staff. Friendly family feeling in the lobby. I will definitley stay there again.
- 5/5
Friendly helpful staff. Pleasant clean room.

Can't complain, this is me tying the immediate morning after a TIPS procedure, Dr. Ronald performed Can't see what I'm posting, apparently hidden in from view
