Hotel is in a good location, but nothing special. Directions to hotel not great. No parking, so need to park in sketchy lot down the street. Rooms are just ok. We stayed here as close to a concert venue. I think cost in the upper $200’s, which is too much for this hotel. Breakfast was pretty good. Will i stay here again? Probably not. Quality of rooms, parking, cost.

This is a decent hotel for its location, but I think they need to update the rooms. The space near the lobby is nice, but it’s a little confusing… Is it a lobby, is it a coffee shop, is it a bar?

The rooftop bar was nice but only opens in the evening. The main restaurant wasn’t anything special, the atmosphere was not what you would expect from the photos on their website and it felt more like a local diner. The service at the coffee bar was subpar. The front desk staff was fine but didn’t seem very professional. The bell staff didn’t bother to offer help with my luggage nor open the door for me when I arrived. The room had a nice view but overall outdated and lacked what you’d normally expect such as a smart TV. The daily fresh ground coffee to your room was nice but the add-ins and condiments like sugar, sweetener, milk, etc. were limited. Overall I was disappointed as I expected a lot more from the reviews.

Great hotel, perfect location, close to the farmer’s market, downtown Durham, easy 20 min drive from the airport. Quiet, clean rooms. Excellent front desk person who went above and beyond to make sure to make us feel welcome. Free covered public parking during the week-end days. Not the first time we stay there and it will not be the last one! Thanks!

Enjoyed the roof top but long wait times. I had to 2 free drink tickets but they weren’t given to me at check in so I never used them. My room had all the set up for coffee including a coffee pot but no coffee or creamer. Otherwise enjoyed our stay.

We were lectured by the front desk when we checked in about using a third party to book our room. When housekeeping did our room, they did not replenish toilet paper or provide enough towels. The room is fair but very dark and cold feeling. Not impressed with this “4 star” hotel.

Great location...staff was upbeat and polite...an older building but clean and styled nicely. Great rooftop bar and nearby is Queenie's for a delicious sandwhich and drink...also offering Kingfischer if you are looking for a fun cocktail, speakeasy vibe...would stay there again

The key to this hotel is the location in the heart of downtown Durham. It was a quick Uber ride for us to go anywhere, including the Duke game at Cameron Indoor Arena. Lots of good places to eat nearby. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was large and suited our needs. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return to The Durham Hotel.

Loved the common spaces, but they had both the coffee shop bar and the rooftop bar closed for private events on the same night. Lack of parking, lack of valet. Thin walls- someone beside us had an alarm that went off for over 20 minutes at 6 AM. Staff was unconcerned. There was a coffee maker but no coffee in the room and the coffee shop doesn’t open until 7:30AM. There was one elevator for the whole hotel. Elevator were sticky with someone’s spilled drink. The phone in the room wouldn’t call the front desk.

Front desk staff very nice. Location is great to DPAC, local restaurants. Cleanliness. Tile shower was kind of yucky and leaked water into the bathroom. Toilet seat was spotted (ew) and random hair found upon arrival, which set the tone. The biggest issue was sound—could have used a sound machine. Used to big city hotel stays, but this particular room (even high up!) could hear the street crossing loud and clear, to the point where it actually prohibited sleep. The coffee delivery was basically packaged coffee to use in the coffee maker—and they knocked on the door two hours before 8am request. We were already up at 6 due to street noise.

Simple amenities seemed to be missed here. Small terrible coffee was served in the lobby for free but if you wanted to pay a great coffee bar and breakfast lunch is served in the lobby. Was also not allowed to sit in the huge lobby with outside food. Even though I spent 4 nights there and ate at the coffee bar several times. There should be some place to sit with your own food like every other hotel. You have to fill out a slip each night to get coffee delivered to your room each day. Why not just have some coffee in your room. No microwave, vending machine or ice machine in this hotel. Was forced to switch rooms after first night due to cleaning schedule. One shower had barely any water pressure, 2nd room had heavy painful water pressure. Grout in first shower was very dirty. Was definitely not worth the price. Location was one of the main reasons I stayed here due to it’s proximity to relatives and walkability.

Fresh ground coffee delivered to room in the morning was amazing and unlike any other hotel! The rooms overall are dated. No dresser or storage. No additional mirror beside bathroom. Lighting in the bathroom should be better. Elevator, yes singular, was horrible. PARKING was horrendous and not right next to the hotel, made me nervous traveling solo with a child and the homeless people.

I was disappointed with the lackluster rooms and lack of room amenities (if you like minimalist, this is your place) for the amount we paid. To the hotel’s credit, I did see pictures on the website so I don’t know what I expected. The lobby was fantastic. I loved the floor to ceiling windows that allowed lots of light to come into the space. And, the assortment of board games was a nice touch. When I booked the room, I missed that we could have gotten a senior discount and so I asked for it upon check in, but to no avail. We were told credits could not be given once we had paid. I guess I felt penalized for paying up front. I think it would have been a nice touch (made us feel really appreciated) to go ahead and credit us. It also listed on the booking that we would each get a free drink (2) and we had to firmly request this at the bar. It wasn’t much of a problem after we explained, but the servers seemed confused about why we didn’t have a token?!? One server charged us and said we would get credited upon check out. I was a bit skeptical since we had been told payments already made couldn’t be credited but after we asked for it when we checked out, it was expeditiously taken off the bill. Overall, we won’t stay again due to the cost for what you get.

Check-in was terrible. They didn't have the rooms that I reserved and said there was nothing that they could do because they were sold out. Parking is down the block and in a highrise parking lot that might be best described as "sketchy." There is only one elevator in the hotel so the wait is incredibly long -- we ended up getting escorted to the kitchen elevator behind the coffee shop. The bathrooms are quite beat-up with pealing paint around the door bottoms.

The only reason The Durham is not receiving 5 stars is that the other guests were obnoxiously loud from 2am to 430 am. I called and complained twice. The noise continued way too long. The night shift person made the excuse for the noisy party stating they just came from a party on their roof top bar and stated she would make a note for the first shift staff. When I checked out, the first shift staff had no record of my complaint.

Parking was down and across the street.Immediately walked into loud music in the lobby from a DJ. Could not hear the front desk person giving instructions. He gave us keys to a room on the 3rd floor but wrote 5th floor room number. Had us trying to enter someone’s room. Elevators work out of order so we had to use the service elevator. We were told we could order coffee with room service but we received items to MAKE coffee which is not how it was described. We wanted to try a different hotel experience but I fired this one wasn’t for us

The Hotel was in a great location to walking, restaurants, bars. Hotel was well kept although could use some upgrades. The food in both restaurants was amazing. The Rooftop Bar had the best cheeseboard at 10pm! Our room in the first night was on the side of the bar Queenies open till 2am so we didn’t sleep well. The hotel moved out room the next night and upgraded us. Service was great and the coffee bar is open all the time for coffee- excellent pastries and candies and beer! Great stay

Great location, park at the deck across the street (free on weekends/$25 weekdays)- walk to tons of great restaurants downtown. Very cool boutique hotel details like fresh ground coffee dropped at your door in the mornings, and tray of local Durham-made snacks in the room for reasonable prices. Some biological looking stains on our sofa were offputting and our robes had some stains as well. Our carpet in the room had a big bleached out spot at the entrance. The cleaning isn’t impeccable- but I definitely felt the bed linens, towels, and shower/bathroom were clean. Bed was comfy, room was quiet. The desk staff brought up water and ice when we needed it, they were also very friendly and helped with making recommendations. We were celebrating an anniversary and the hotel sent up a kind gift for our special occasion. Would stay again.

Isaac at the front desk was excellent. Nice to comp 2 free drinks because it was my birthday! The Superior King room was spacious but quite scant and not so "updated". Adding modern sofa and chair does not constitute a renovation. Walls are bare. TV isn't a smart tv. Not a mirror in the living part of the room - bizarre esp with empty walls. Women need natural light for makeup and that's not offered in the bathroom. Mildew in shower grout. No USB charging options. a/c makes a weird noise with compressor cycling on and off all night. Didn't try the restaurant or rooftop. Lots of noise from the street until 10pm from the banging drums outside.

The rooftop bar is a lot of fun and the hotel is near lots of shops and restaurants. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the hotel is very clean - extremely important to us!! Good hotel right in downtown. Cool architecture. Splendid public spaces; lobby and rooftop. Large room, pretty spare. Serious about their coffee. Nothing. Facility was under construction yet there was no mention of it on any of their descriptions. The facility was under construction. We had to use the service elevator which was in an employee’s only area to gain access to our room or visit the roof top amenities. The facility also smelled like sulfur/sewage. It was very unpleasant. Also, the other patrons across from my room had a party and were yelling and playing loud music well past midnight. I had an early flight and had to get up at 0300. I called the front desk and notified them of the disturbance hoping it would be rectified, but it was not. The noise continued until almost 0200.

The lighting in the room was a bit of a challenge, no way to keep a light on by the bed to turn off when you go to bed without good all the way to the door and walking in the dark. The switch by the bed and lights by the bed all only portrayed by the door switch. Minor but annoying inconvenience. Someone upstairs was very loud it sliced like they were throwing furniture around the room at all hours of the night and morning so i has a rough night of sleep.

The hotel is centrally located, I think a bit over priced for what it is. Some of the carpet and decor is tired looking. The early morning staff acted like they were doing me a huge favor by giving me coffee supplies at 5:30. Overall, staff could have been more hospitable.

The hotel is a little dated. The rooms and the beds are very comfortable and nice. One of the female receptionists was a bit rude and had a standoffish attitude, which really took me aback. I was not expecting that kind of service at a place like The Durham.

A bit more expensive than some other hotels nearby, but for the level of service and large rooms at the Durham, we were happy with our choice. The coffee bar in the lobby is excellent. The bed was a tad soft and the pillows could be upgraded...I kept meaning to ask for down pillows but never did. The rooftop bar is a great addition, even in February. The staff is super friendly and helpful, ready for whatever request we threw at them. The hotel is walking distance to lots of great restaurants nearby. Loved the Kingfisher bar next door (downstairs), had ice cream at the Parlour down the street, burgers at Bull City Burger & Brewery were terrific, and a 10 min. ride to Duke University.

It was centrally located within walking distance of everything. The coffee shop at the hotel was great. The valet parking was extremely helpful. The person checking us in was very unhelpful. Was trying to see there was an upgrade available and if I could change my credit card. She said this is what I have and I don't know how to change anything. It was a holiday weekend, so no manager was available and there was nothing the person at the from desk can do except hand me my keys.

It’s supposed to be a luxury hotel but it has quite a few less than satisfactory aspects. 1. The restaurant is the lobby and quite unattractive. The walk in shower door leaks terribly and get the towel and floor wet. There is no towel rack for the hand towel. The TV has no way to connect a device- no ports and no device sharing app. Oh yeah also : no dresser in the room for clothes. Overall while clean it is below par certainly for the price.

This visit was my 2nd stay at this hotel, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was still the same nice place that I remembered. The location is perfect. It’s close to everything in downtown Durham. The area is eclectic and lively. The restaurant scene is amazing with so many options for cuisine. The staff at the hotel are very pleasant and upbeat. I really enjoyed it, and I will return again as I visit NC yearly from the Philadelphia area to see my daughter. If you like a quirky, upbeat mid-century modern designed atmosphere with a great rooftop bar and you’re looking for a reasonably priced hotel, stay here.

Cool vibe- rooms very clean, stylish and comfortable- nice location: as other folks have noted kinda noisy- could pretty easily hear folks talking and snoring in adjacent rooms. Some staff great- others not so much- They had trouble checking me in and instead of giving me a room key and letting me know to stop by in a bit, I had to wait over 15 minutes while the front desk person and her manager had a huddle session where I became invisible. Great coffee and lobby/deck. I'd try it again but wouldn't rush back.

Check-in was terrible. Took 30minutes to actually get the key. Front desk kept telling us our cards were declined. Finally, after 15 minutes of trying different cards, realized it was their system. You think?? Once we received our cards we travel up to our floor and opened the door only to be met with another resident and all of their belongings! So embarrassing. At that point I was just ready to go home. Not a great way to start our anniversary celebration. To add insult to injury we were told during check-in the roof top bar was rented out and not available for guests. That information should really be made public before guests reserve since this was a major draw for us to stay at this hotel.

We came in Friday evening to find that there was music blaring (speakers mounted within feet from our window on the second floor) and a cockroach crawling across the bathroom floor. When I called down to speak to a supervisor, I was told one would not be available until the morning. The following morning, I asked to speak to the supervisor by the name I was given, and they said no supervisor was on staff. I left my contact information and so far have not received a call. The valet (who was extremely nice) was busy grabbing another vehicle, and to our surprise and random hotel employee was sent to grab our car and he ended up stuck in the garage.

Through the app they stated they would accommodate a king size bed, but when we got two our room we had a two separate beds. We rented 2 rooms for ourselves and my in laws. No complaints about the rooms or the condition of the hotel. Im surprised at the lack of service offered at the hotel considering we have plenty of really good options in the downtown Durham area. Our issue was late night, the first night we arrived to the hotel at midnight having checked in in the morning. We forgot our key and couldn’t get into the hotel and that was our mistake. We called out from outside, we knocked loudly on the glass door hoping someone could hear us. My husband walked outside looking for someone and after waiting for about 15min in the cold the hotel employee showed up and apologized to us. We would have let it go as mistakes can happen but the following night we came back at 1:00am and we needed our car to be valet park and again no one was inside the lobby. We looked around for a while calling out for someone but again we waited for about another15 minutes until someone finally showed up. Discussing the poor service with my in laws, I found out that they were not able to get their coffee in the hotel lobby the 2 mornings we were there. The first morning they went downstairs a minute after the coffee service was closed and no one could provide a cup of coffee. The next morning they went to the lobby 5 minutes before the coffee service would close but they had already shut the service down and no coffee was offered to them. The only great service we received were from the valet personnel

Was told upon arrival that they had no hot water. Bad for me because I didn’t shower but they offered to comp valet and gave us some free drink tickets for the rooftop bar. At 4 am in the morning, I had to use the bathroom and the water to everything was shut off. Figured they had it off to fix the hot water and went back to sleep. Woke up at 7am and still no water. Neither I nor the wife were able to shower, brush our teeth, nothing. Nothing was said at checkout and I honestly believe the entire room should have been comped. Beautiful place with a beautiful rooftop bar. Just unfortunate circumstances led to a bad time.
