Nothing it was disgusting, the whole place smelled like weed. It could’ve have smelled better and been cleaner the beds were full of stains. We asked to get moved from the rooms 2 times and it was just worse and worse. The area was also not safe and we saw literal crackheads doing drugs in the staircase and not just weed.
- 4/5
The stay was better than the last time, the room I had was more up to date. The only issue I had was I had to pay a 50.00 deposit when I arrived to the hotel. I prepaid for the room in advance and he said it was for a smoking deposit. I just stayed there a few weeks ago and didn’t pay a deposit. I don’t smoke but it should’ve been said online when booking the room and not told at the time of check in. I stayed 2 nights and housekeeping did come knock on my door to bring fresh linen if needed. It was a sign in the lobby saying I’d you needed them to come into your room let the front desk know by 10am which was a good thing for those who didn’t want to be disturbed.

Walls, carprt, and floors dirty
- 4/5
Super convenient, receptionist was professional, and friendly Would like a microwave in the room.
- 0.5/5
Blood on the sheets
- 1/5
However what was disappointing was that the lobby didn’t even have these on request. It’s not that expensive to get the most basic of amenities for your customers. A communal Iron and hairdryer can not cost more than $50. A used microwave, which would not only be nice for your customers but also your employees so they could heat up lunch, can’t be more than $30. These little things just show a cheapness and lack of care for the customer’s experience. In terms of cleanliness, it was ok. Surfaces and bed weren’t bad , floor was sticky. Oh and the policies they have, such as only 15 min in the lobby is off putting. I was hopeful staying here, and have had decent experiences at 2 star hotel, but honestly my experience here just made me feel like I should have spent a bit extra to stay at another hotel. Management needs to do better

Everything was not good
- 4/5
A great stay close to resturants and grocery store:)
- 0.5/5
It was close to the location I needed to go Everything else. The room smells like vomit. No one came to clean the room. The shower is dirty as all get out with other peoples hair still in the shower and God knows what else. The rug hasn’t been shampooed in forever it looks like. The chair has crumbs and other stuff that is very questionable in the cracks. Something bit me during my stay as well
- 1/5
We left right after checking in and paid for one night rather than actually staying there. The room door barely closed, the elevator was patched with duct tape, the hallway was dark and dirty, the towels looked like old rags, the attendent at checkin said we should park on the far side of the parking lot so we could see our car from the room, (like I should also be worried about my car!). We felt so umcomfortable, we just left and for a small amout more stayed in a hotel that was 1000% better. Fortunately the representative at Hotels.com was able to help us and even gave us some of the money back that we lost for the last minute cancellation. It is listed at about a 7, it should be as 1
- 1/5
Terrible stay. The room smelled awful, and the floor was sticky and dirty. Definitely not a clean or comfortable place to stay. I would not recommend it.
- 3/5
Sufficient for a short stay. “Non-smoking” room smelled of smoke. Convenient location. Terrible water pressure, basic linens, budget amenities (towels, vending, housekeeping)
- 1.5/5
No hair dryer. Didn't put enough towels in the room and when asked if we could get more they said we would have to wait. The shower head barely came out with water just wasn't happy with it.
- 3/5
Staff was profressional and friendly, Rooms are dated but clean. Nearby stores
- 5/5
Alex at the front desk was very helpful.
- 5/5
Affordable and great place to stay.
- 2/5
The receptionist. Our ac unit wasnt efficient. It had to stay on 63 all night because it was broken. Also we saw alot of activity at night. People walking. In and out of rooms all night.
- 5/5
A nice Hotel. Nice value. Grocery stores, restaurants within a short walking distance.
- 4/5
Clean room. Plentiful parking. Nice staff.
- 4/5
We were attending a wedding and needed a place to get ready before and sleep after. The hotel met our needs. Based on the price, we thought it might be worse, so it was a pleasant surprise. It was clean and staff was nice. The only thing I didn't like was there were no tissues in the room.
- 1/5
Dirty room and place felt unsafe. Checked out early cause of this and found a better place
- 3/5
Location is awesome, right off the interstate and there’s a lot of decent places to eat and shop nearby. The rooms are outdated but clean.
- 0.5/5
Location to Duke Hospital The rooms were gross, we went into the first room and it was not clean had to go back to check in put us in another room that had a dirty bed and roaches in the wall. Standard room has no iron, fridge, microwave, hair dryer or coffee pot. We got another room it had dirty washcloths hanging in the bathroom and a dirty towel beside the bed. There were burn holes and stains on the bed. It was absolutely disgusting. The TV volume did not work and the air conditioner did not work.
- 1/5
Room smelled and filthy, bugs on the floor, leaking ceiling, outside was dirty. Horrible.
- 1/5
Rooms were extremely dirty with bugs and cigarette burns in the linen. Stains on the sheets. Surfaces looked like they never get actually cleaned. Microwave was nasty and full of exploded food Floor was stained, holes in the bathroom wall. Didn't feel safe parking the car in the lot
- 2/5
Smells, lots of, them, all bad
- 5/5
Warren Buffett would approve of your smart decision to stay here. This is a safe, clean and economical place to stay, and close to everything. I appreciate the proprietors kindness and welcoming greeting. It’s a great value for your travel dollar.
- 5/5
Thank you Mr. Rishi youre very awsome Keep shining
- 5/5
Thats simply customer service that is rear to see and not take notice of. GREAT JOB MR. RISHI AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING EVERY TRIP ONE TO LOOK FOWARD TO MY NEXT ONE.
- 1/5
i was in 2 different rooms. Both had an overwhelming smell of urine. No toilet paper, the A/C did not work. I ended my stay early because the accommodations were terrible. The only positive was the desk staff. They attempted to be helpful and canceled my stay without issue. It's unlikely that I will ever stay in a Red Roof Inn again. Does my account show that I should be receiving a refund?
- 5/5
I love tge way the front desk staff goes above and beyond to assist in every possible way to make my stay comfortable. Great job front desk???
- 1/5
Stinky vents
- 2/5
Yes
- 5/5
Very helpful staff and clean place
- 1/5
Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the room was not what I expected. The toilet was dirty when we arrived, which immediately gave a poor first impression and made the room feel poorly maintained. Another very upsetting situation happened in the parking lot. I accidentally left my suitcase behind my car in the parking area, and when I realized and came back for it, it was gone. The suitcase had been stolen. This was extremely disappointing and stressful, especially while traveling. Because of these issues, I strongly believe the hotel should pay more attention to room cleanliness and overall security in the parking area to help prevent situations like this from happening to other guests in the future.
- 5/5

The room vas very clean. It’s an old hotel but it was very clean and had everything I needed!
- 5/5
I had a great stay thanks to the wonderful staff. Everyone was kind, professional, and treated me with respect. The room was clean and comfortable, and I really appreciated the hospitality
- 3.5/5
The location, the cost and the rooms were clean and presentable. The excess trash on the staircase and in the corner, alot of the guest looked extremely sketchy to say the least.
- 5/5
Everything was good
- 5/5
Yes
- 1/5
Terrible experience.
- 3/5
The rooms are very nice, they were clean and the bed was comfy. However it was very noisy all night, with loud vehicles and loud music playing. There were also lots of people having conversations out in the parking lot and yelling. I was not able to finally fall asleep until almost 2:00 a.m. they're also appears to be a homeless area right behind the hotel near where you walk your dogs. And it does say no smoking within 50 ft of the hotel but you still see and smell people smoking. The staff was nice except in the morning my key did not work when I was walking my dogs and when I went to the front office there was nobody there. There's multiple food options nearby you can actually walk to mcdonald's, Texas Roadhouse, and IHOP, including some gas stations.
- 5/5
Great and was super clean
- 3/5
Bad news: People were hanging out in the parking lot and on the outdoor staircases at nighttime. This may make travelers with young children or single travelers uncomfortable. In a similar vein, during a pair of early-morning walks, I noticed a number of unhoused people in the nearby area. Bottom line: I would probably not stay at this property again.
- 3/5
Inexpensive and check in was simple. But be the noise from the road, dogs, and mostly other people we did not get a good nights sleep.
- 5/5
Clean room. Good location.
- 3/5
The front cashier was rude. I told housekeeping I didn't need anything and they still attempted to come in my room. I had do not disturb on the door and they still disturbed me.
- 3/5
Staff were nice. Rooms left something to be desired.
- 4/5
They light up the parking lot really well at night which made us feel safer getting from car to hotel and reduce the possibility of break ins. Beds were not the most comfortable and were squeaky. We arrived late and left early so the price, it worked for what we needed it for.
- 1/5
The room and bathroom were dirty (including cockroaches), very noisy place, unsafe environment.
- 4/5
Spotless
- 2/5
When I arrived at the hotel when I walked in the office, they didn't acknowledge me. The room where the bathroom was filthy. The tub had a permit yellow ring had a yellow ring, water stains on the wall, mildew around the grout mildew in the toilet, and I have respiratory problems. I was definitely unsatisfied and up for the whole weekend.

Very clean and the staff was helpful and nice.
- 3/5
I stayed 5 days the staff was friendly and checked to see if anything was needed.Property is near highways few fast food resturants.Property its self was bit worn rooms are clean.
- 1/5
Roach infestation!! In one hour we killed over 6 german roaches. We, obviously, checked out.
- 2/5
Room smelled stale and stuffy, as it it had been smoked in before. Parking area was marginal - did not feel totally comfortable walking around outside here. Location was close to a great French style bakery.
- 3/5
Some of the people hanging around Didn't look safe.
- 3/5
My stay was ok but i know what to expect staying at a place like this. My room was clean, but the bathroom is a little run down and there were stains on the wall inside of the bathroom. There are alot of sketchy people lingering around smoking weed and drinking outside around the facility, but again I know what to expect at an establishment like this. I had to book here at the last minute to attend a football game that a family member was playing in for Duke University. Because it was homecoming the rest of the hotels inflated their prices for a cost of 480 for a two day stay. I was able to stay at this location for 76 dollars a night. The front desk staff member was help and very polite. I am from an urban environment so even with all the sketchy people around i didn't feel unsafe, but used caution.
- 3/5
Air conditioner wasn't to par. Was told it would be repaired and was never serviced. Our remote control was broken and we weren't provided with a properly working one. Police presence almost each night and regardless of your lack of sleep no additional later check out times were offered. Staff is decent but also speak negatively against other guests. The reason I stay here is for convenience while attending hospital visits frequently without having to drive excess miles. We stay a out 4 times a week and continue to be treated like strangers.
- 5/5
The frontdedk guy Rishi is awesome. Thanks for all
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay
- 1/5
The room was horrible. It smelled like cigarettes. It made me so ill, that I checked out early. I did not stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
- 5/5
It was peaceful and quiet definitely somewhere I would go if I need a hotel
- 4/5
Wonderful location that is so very close to Duke
- 2/5
smelly and dirty some area
- 5/5
Very nice. I've stayed here many times for business. Clean and the staff is very courteous.
- 5/5
It was decent..
- 3/5
I stayed here several years ago, and found this an acceptable location with minimal but clean services. Unfortunately, it looks like nothing has been done to maintain the building since then. There was a cockroach in the bathroom, one light did not work, and the carpet under the bed was moist and gross to touch with bare feet. Additionally, the mattresses were extraordinarily thin and uncomfortable, and one of the double beds made a loud metallic thunking noise every time my partner rolled over. I know this is a motel in a city, but it will not be one we return to--there are other hotel and motels in the area for around $10 more per night that are absolutely worth that extra ten spot.
- 1/5
Horrible! I then had to go back online to find a room somewhere else! I made reservation at Red Roof WEEKS ago to avoid this!
- 3/5
We had roaches in our room both nights there. The desk people are nice. We complained about the roaches in the room and no explanation nor acknowledgement where given. No alternative for a different room.
- 1/5
Before booking here just know there is no room service. In the 4 days we were there we didn’t get fresh towels and when i tried looking for room service people i could not find anymore. The towels we got to begin with were stained.
- 5/5
What was unique about the property was that the staff was really friendly and kind very respectful they're very accommodating to your needs the rooms are really clean and the housekeeping service is outstanding they really make sure that they have their guests satisfied guaranteed and they are very helpful in so many ways when needed and I would totally give them a $10 if they had the Stars thank you very much I recommend this hotel to anyone who's looking for good and great customer service and accustomed to all your needs while you're staying. Very friendly staffing management along with housekeeping making sure that you have your amenities.
- 5/5
The cleanliness and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
- 4/5
Did not get my king bed ended up with to smaller bed in order to get first floor as requested
- 5/5
Nice place to stay
- 3/5
Lots of dirty people hanging around outside the rooms.
- 3/5
The place needs it's plumbing redone.
- 2/5
All the features of a drive in motel with no upgrades since the 70's. If you don't enjoy people smoking Marijuana and hanging out in the open hallways and stairwells, I recommend to avoid this hotel.
- 5/5
Great
- 1/5
Was dirty, smelt moldy in the bathroom. Constant people hanging outside in parking lot. Had a 1yr old with me and 3am was woken up by loud people and the smell of weed in the room
- 5/5
Amazing service and clean rooms
- 2/5
the outside was noisy with people hanging out most of the night , the door wasn't very secure , and the room wasn't cleaned the next day. Most of all, i did not feel safe for me or my family.
- 3/5
The remote on the TV did not work. The room felt very humid and musty
- 3/5
Check in process, unprofessional
- 3/5
Staff is not overtly rude, but not particularly friendly either. Room was fairly clean and bed was ok. No microwave or refrigerator.
- 3/5
Stay was fine
- 3/5
The room was clean but housekeeping did not come in and clean like other places they just left new towel and a roll of tissue
- 5/5
It was a great stay and the service was good
- 4/5
Not the worst but far from the best. Not walkable to much. Lots of families with young children staying here. No amenities to speak of, very basic. You get a place to stay.
- 5/5
Great area and quiet
- 1/5
Zero Stars. Very Dangerous, Dirty Motel.
- 3/5
Worth it for the price
- 5/5
Safe
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
When we arrived there was no hot water and the property was roped off. I mentioned to the gentleman behind the counter that checked us in that I didn’t believe we needed to stay because I was having a major life changing surgery the following morning and he just ignored us. He wouldn’t let us cancel or anything. We stayed and thankfully had hot water the following morning, however it was very inconvenient to us.
- 1/5
Not clean at all. Sheets were dirty
- 4/5
The rooms were nice, clean and comfortable. The only thing that I had an issue with was it was not disclosed prior to check in that there was a deposit that needed to be paid on each room at the location
- 4/5
The check out was not so favorable. The desk clerk there was very indifferent nd made chk out uncomfortable.
- 4/5
People talking loudly in the parking lot late.
- 4/5
Clean, accessable to many areas and restaurants. Good value for the price.
- 2/5
Area did not felt safe. No hair dryer in room. Should have more security cameras installed. Renovation needed.
- 5/5
Great place to stay for the night.
- 5/5
Nice very nice
- 3/5
The room was clean but the grounds were littered with trash and the dog area was a mess. I guess no one knows how to clean up after their dogs.
- 1/5
Ive always liked the Red Roof Inn in other cities but the ones in Durham were a HUGE disappointment! Every room had something wrong with it! It either was missing something important or several different things in the room didn't even work! DoNOT stay under any circumstances! You will regret it!
- 3/5
It was a good place to stay fir the price.
- 2/5
Everything was ok until they locked me out first time with one of my dogs second time soonest I extended for another day and I went to walk my 2 dogs they locked me out I was having a hard time to walk to the office with 2 service dogs due to an operation on my right shoulder ,just to find out that they make me go to the office to tell me I have to pay 15 dollars for one of the dogs again. I was so disappointed that I cancelled my reservation 11:45 am visit my daughter at the hospital in and out to get another reservation around 6pm and no only that One of them stop me just tell me to pick up after my dog I let her know that I have bags but I said to myself the all property is full of dogs poop only one dog trash without bags. We live two hours away, my daughter was having an operation and stay at the hospital for two days. I’m glad we are home.
- 2/5
Look like people live at that hotel
- 4/5
The elevator seems old & outdated. I rode it once to get my things to the room as I was on the 3rd floor. That was the only time I used it. Room was clean, it was fine. Nothing spectacular, but for just a place to sleep after work it was fine for the price. One of the cleaner cheaper hotels. Decent location, near stores, shopping, gas stations.
- 5/5
I like the staff and the clean rooms. There is shopping and dinning one exit away so it's close.
- 1/5
I hadn't been at the hotel for 1 hour before the guy at the front desk started beating on the door accusing me and my mother of smoking in the room. She was literally laying in bed and i had just grabbed her some food. I let him come in an smell and he admitted to not smell smoke. After then they treated us like criminals. We won't be back an advise others to look at other options in the area.
- 5/5
It's close to shopping and restaurants.
- 3/5
The only thing good is that it’s the cheapest, and the rooms were clean. The property around and shady crowd not so good.
- 5/5
I want my money back now. November 21 Is three days and no money. He was rude, and I can’t accept it.
- 5/5
Good as expected
- 2/5
they did not clean our room the second day we stayed . it smelled like weed . and our room was dirty
- 3/5
I’m disappointed. Stay at his rude.
- 1/5
I’d love to send in pics. I have contacted red roof inn for a refund. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. Please let me know where I can send pics and videos
- 5/5
This hotel was quiet and clean, the staff friendly.
- 5/5
Clean, affordable and close to shopping and dining options
- 5/5
Good price, nice room.
- 4/5
It’s alright nothing special cheap and convenient. Texas Roadhouse right next door
- 5/5
Thank you!!!
- 5/5
Always friendly and accommodating
- 2/5
This motel was not worth the $92 I paid for my “superior room”. The towels were old, worn out, and heavily stained. The bedding was either stained or dirty and unwashed. There was random hair in the shower. The check in was slow with a rather unfriendly man at the desk. There was someone power washing around check in time (I find this unprofessional - especially when the power washer didn’t stop when a guest was heading for the lobby. The power washing continued for several hours, and since the walls are very thin you hear everything. Rather unpleasant. The motel seemed pretty empty, yet three rooms in a row were occupied, making it uncomfortable to even hold a conversation in our room, since we could hear our neighbors, we know they could hear us. I also happen to be allergic to marijuana smoke, so walking through a cloud of it from my neighbor was equally unpleasant. I don’t see myself returning to this motel.
- 5/5
You get what you pay for
- 5/5
Great staff
- 5/5
Great value for the price!
- 1/5
I was so tired i needed a place to stay. Really a mistake.
- 1/5
In the picture look somewhat much decent than in real person.
- 5/5
Hotel staff is excellent
- 1/5
The male staff at the front desk was very mean and had no compassion, no empathy and stole my cellular phone while I had to be rushed from the hotel to the hospital. Truly a horrendous encounter for me.
- 3/5
Room was reasonably clean. Not a lot of noise though there was a lot of furtive meet ups in the parking lot among some pretty sketchy looking people- a homeless camp beside the driveway and a break in hedges around parking lot-, just didn’t feel the safest. We’ve stayed here several times but the activity in the parking lot spoiled my opinion about the safety of staying here.
- 5/5
Stephanie at the front desk was a very kind person.
- 3/5
"I'm a travel agent I will be honest". The location was good, as far as eating places also for driving. You really can't do anything about the people around you and what the people in the rooms do. The guy at the front desk was calm and helpful. The area was clean, if they get rid of the roach issue it would stand out as a good place. I could see the worker seem to enjoy her job and took pride in it. so far there's no problem getting my deposit back. Victor I Cor 15:1-4
- 2/5
Just need to do a lot of remodel and the people around them make it not so good
- 1/5
I don't think they wash the sheets.
- 3/5
The room was ok for the price. Not great. Conveniently right off 85. With a gas station and McDonalds next door
- 5/5
It was clean, small, all we needed for a night of rest before a visit to Doctors visit to Duke University
- 5/5
Thank you. Steve
- 3/5
I like how is the area and good prices thank you
- 1/5
Property is just nasty lol trash
- 5/5
The room was very nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. This motel is close to the hospital that I was visiting. I will be revisiting this hotel very soon. Great place to stay and the price was Awesome. They exceeded my expectations.
- 4/5
Convenient location and closeness to scheduled purposes
- 1/5
They cancelled me!
- 2/5
There was trash all over the landing on the third floor. It was gross. I just needed a place to crash before driving home after a comedy show. I knew it wasn't going to be great for the price, but they could at least pick up the trash.
- 2/5
Superbowl Sunday, and had a decent experience at that time. However four years later the experience was much different. For starters, the TV is located in an awkward location in the room where it can't be watched from one side of the bed. The refrigerator and microwave are located in a corner on the opposite side of room and as far away as you can get from any counter top. Accessible bathroom had mildew smell, and there was water dripping from some unknown source into the light fixture. The bowl was nearly 2 inches full by the time we checked out. The in room coffee service had no sweetener or creamer. The hotel calls itself Red Roof Inn Durham - Duke Univ Medical Center, but is 2.5 miles from DUMC on busy streets, especially at rush hour and noon. About the only saving grace of this hotel is that it has about the cheapest nightly rates in the area, but even with that going for it, I'll never book this location again.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
When Ingot to the hotel I asked if the room had a refrigerator (some rooms don't). Was UPGRADED and it cost me an additional $55 from the price committed from hotels.com. Not sure they will get another opportunity to serve me. I believe I have 45 hotel stays so far this year. Just an overall disappointment for me. At the Doctors all morning and was already frustrated and stressed. I like this place but that will not happen again.
- 5/5
Great
- 1/5
It was awful and nasty and the hotel stinks like pee and weed and cigarettes and its not well lighted and the ice maker machine was broken and all kind of strange drifters hang out there. Very uncomfortable and unsafe.
- 2/5
However, there are people loitering and yelling in the parking lot at all hours. The property is what I would consider barely maintained. Things that could easily be power washed or cleaned are not. The room itself is musty and, quite frankly, filthy. There were hair trimmings all over the sink, faucet, countertops and it is impossible to have cleaned and missed that. I was not expecting this to be a Ritz, but given the reviews I did expect basic cleanliness. The bed appeared to have clean sheets but even then I was very concerned, given everything else. Take that as you will.
