The Leland House and Rochester Hotel are historic hotels located in downtown Durango, offering convenient access to local attractions, shops, and restaurants. Guests generally appreciate the friendly staff, unique decor, and included breakfast, but some find the rooms small and mention issues with noise, comfort, and pricing.

Great stay, excellent location and friendly staff. We highly recommend!
- 3/5
The location is fun and the staff are great. The rooms don’t have more ch insulation, so it was really noisy. There was corporate party in the courtyard, so the place was incredibly crowded rather than the quiet, small place it is advertised as. Outrageously expensive for what it turned out to be.

Quaint hotel in the heart of Durango. Chill patio, and a very friendly staff gives this hotel a nice vibe.

Adorable boutique hotel in the heart of Durango. Hoping to visit again soon!

Quaint and well cared for, unique set up and great location
- 4/5
Very attentive staff. Continental Breakfast and free glass of wine each night were great. As these rooms are old not much thought was given to changing stations. I had to leave my phone and watch on the floor by the bed to charge them. Also no electric coffee pot in the room. Only a tea pot for boiling water (also had to be placed on the floor to plug in) and instant coffee.

Very nice people. The breakfast is free and just enough food to get your started. The coffee is delicious too. The location is great. It is easy to get around. You are in the middle of downtown. I would go back.

Everything was so easy from check in to arrival and check out in the morning. The property is gorgeous and they thought of everything you could possibly need - from glasses of water to a sound machine and top notch bedding and toiletries! Location is also wonderful and it's easy to walk to so many restaurants and shops! This will be our go-to stop anytime we are in Durango!

Clean room
- 5/5
This hotel was one of the best historic hotels I’ve stayed in. The bartender was the BEST! Great cocktails and conversation. The rooms have been modernized, so they are very comfortable and don’t have that old, musty smell you find in other older hotels. I will definitely stay there again next time I head to Durango!!
- 5/5
We will definitely return. Most accommodating hotel staff that we’ve seen in years. You should have absolutely no hesitancy in staying at this mildly boutique hotel.
- 5/5
The Rochester Hotel has everything I needed while I visited Durango. The location is within walking distance of downtown’s many amenities and the staff are amazing hospitality specialists. Whoever trained them sets the gold standard for sincere customer interaction and stellar service! True professionals that were helpful and accommodating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- 5/5
The room was great. Bathroom and Towels stood out. Very friendly staff too.
- 5/5
Modern, clean room that complemented the historic building. Friendly staff, great light breakfast.
- 5/5
The staff was very kind, breakfast had great coffee, the location is perfect, comfy beds, and the welcome drink was so so appreciated!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent- staff friendly- room clean - bed was soft - great location to the downtown area
- 5/5
Everything was perfect. Thank you so much for all the special treatment.
- 5/5
The Rochester is perfectly situated one block from Main Street. We were impressed by all of the restaurants, as the service and food were exceptional. Free parking next to the hotel. Durango is a special place to visit.
- 4/5
Some of the fixtures in the bathroom needed some upkeep. Ventilation in bathroom was poor, and everything fogged up as soon as the shower started. Mattress was too soft for my liking.
- 5/5
Excellent location too. Within walking distance to nice restaurants, downtown and the train. Will definitely return when I come to Durango again.
- 1/5
I was never able to access the property. I never received the code to access after 10 pm. No one answer the phone. We had to find another hotel at 11 pm and everything was full. Terrible experience.
- 5/5
Great hotel for us. So convenient to everything in the downtown area
- 5/5
Great for those who want to stay in central Historic Durango. Kind staff, comfortable and stylish room on a quiet street even in the summer. Love the Aesop toiletries!

Take your own pillows, the pillows were uncomfortable. Everything else about the stay was nice. Loved the garden area and Peeples bar located on the premises.
- 5/5
Great property.
- 4/5
Very nice, centrally-located historic hotel. Very friendly staff and nice ambiance. The only downside for us was that they were hosting a business event the day we arrived that essentially took over the bar and common areas leaving no space for staying guests and a long line at the bar so we went in search of someplace else to relax and grab a drink after a long drive.
- 5/5
Loved everything about this place except the bed was too soft
- 5/5
This is a great find, very cute boutique hotel in a great location in downtown Durango. The entire staff was wonderful, the bar is not to be missed because of the great bartenders and cocktail options, rooms are very clean and spacious and have everything you need. Would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Durango!
- 5/5
I loved the quiet, comfortable spacious room and the homemade scones for breakfast. The vibe is friendly, The location is great. Will return!
- 4/5
The room was comfortable, quite noisy from room above and no closet or amenities. Expected more for $400 a night in Durango.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
The garden adjacent to the hotel is awesome!
- 5/5
Location is great, staff are wonderful.
- 5/5
10/10 would recommend!!!
- 5/5
Very Comfortable
- 5/5
Best hotel I’ve been to in years. I didn’t want to get out of bed
- 2/5
Too hot in the room. No AC
- 3/5
Very loud property. It’s an old building that has been nicely renovated but the walls are so thin. And the floor above you can hear everything! Any footsteps and movement.
- 5/5
We stayed here the final two nights of a nine-night trip. All the other places we stayed were great, but the Rochester was the best! It is conveniently located in downtown Durango and has a fantastic outdoor garden area to enjoy fresh air while enjoying a drink from their bar. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. The service from the staff was top-notch. We took the train from Durango to Silverton and visited their sister hotel--The Wyman. If you go to Silverton, pay them a visit and grab a coffee or a libation in their lobby bar. Both hotels are very nicely decorated and they make you feel very welcome!
- 5/5
What really stood out to me was how pet-friendly they are. Traveling with my dogs can be hit or miss, but the Rochester made it seamless. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the outdoor areas were perfect for a quick walk. The location is also unbeatable—just a short stroll to restaurants, shops, and trails, but tucked away enough to feel peaceful and quiet. From check-in to check-out, everything was smooth, and every team member I encountered was helpful and kind. Highly recommend this gem in Durango. I’ll definitely be back!
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming! The hotel is stunning, the rooms gorgeous, and the amenities luxurious. Ideal location just off of Main Ave, great vibes in the courtyard garden bar. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, rooms were very clean and comfortable. Great location!
- 5/5
Beautifully renovated. Very comfortable room and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Great property and very accommodating staff. Only complaint is the coffee in the room was instant.
- 5/5
Stevie and her coworker were very helpful and pleasant. I’m definitely staying here again.
- 5/5
This is the cutest quaint little gem in Durango. The family friendly feel, cleanliness and little bar are amazing! Will definitely be staying again!
- 3/5
Pretty small rooms for the price.
- 5/5
Wonderful
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff! Beautiful rooms.
- 5/5
So nice to stay in an intimate, cosy hotel instead of the bland chains. High quality linens, warm friendly service, everything we needed and nothing we didn't. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
This hotel was fabulous in every way! It was small and cozy which was nice not having the chain hotel feel. The texting checking feature was great and the host was extremely responsive. They even came by our room as we were arriving to ask if we were getting in ok. The rooms were SO clean and beautifully designed. The bar gives you one free drink a night which we enjoyed in the cute courtyard with twinkle lights. The area is also great and within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and the Durango train station. Loved our stay!
- 5/5
The overall stay was great! This was the first digital check in that I have ever done and made getting in a breeze. The only complaint would be the limited parking, but the staff made sure to help ensure we found parking. Definitely a unique hotel experience and would recommend to couples of all ages.
- 5/5
It was a wonderful small hotel. The rooms were neat and clean. The bed had a great mattress. We are planning to stay there again.
- 5/5
The Rochester is a Gem in the heart of Durango. The staff are amazing and the rooms are awesome in this OG building. Bonus points for The Peeples Bar and downtown vibe, walkability to all downtown Durango Shopping and Dining. Awesome, awesome stay, highly recommended!
- 5/5
Highly recommend this place in Downtown Durango.
- 5/5
We love the location of the hotel and appreciate the convenience of parking the car and being able to walk everywhere downtown. But we are and always, disappointed in the TV. We really wanted to watch the Olympics in our hotel room but had no way of streaming it or gettting regular TV. Also we were disappointed in the noise Saturday night after 10pm. Didn't expect the bar crowd and music to be so loud.
- 5/5
Cute, recently remodeled late 1800’s building. All modern conveniences. Check in online and walk up to you room with a code to get in. No lines. An adorable breakfast served at 7ish AM. My husband said great coffee and he is a bit picky. Great location to downtown walkable bars and restaurants which is why we picked it. I would pick this place again, no problem!!
- 5/5
Great service and amazing location. Very comfortable beds and clean floor in the room.
- 5/5
Great hotel with large rooms and comfortable beds! Great hospitality!
- 1/5
For $500/night, I shouldn’t have to sleep sweaty. Window unit for AC, really? No front desk reception. Manager asking my girlfriend if she is the new cleaning lady. If you want to watch TV, good luck figuring out that out for 30 minutes. Sheesh, the Best Western would have been a severe upgrade.
- 5/5
Hailey and her team were so friendly and helpful. They helped us find a place to park our motorcycle trailer and dinner suggestions. Cocktails and breakfasts were very relaxing and charming in their bar and garden area.
- 5/5
The property was close to down town where everything was going on at night.
- 4/5
The room is modern, complementary breakfast (coffee, pastries and fruits) was good, and a prime location walking distance to main Avenue and restaurants. The bar inside was nice with a good variety of drinks and the patio was perfect to relax while having a drink (during summer). The only thing that the room was missing was a mini fridge. And although there was air conditioning in the room, it was hard to figure it out (the staff even helped us but it wasn’t enough to make it work properly). Pro tip: if you don’t like their big pillows, you can remove part of it by opening the zipper (two pillows inside the pillow case). Would recommend it and come back!
- 5/5
Charming property in an excellent location for exploring historic downtown Durango. The hosts take great care to ensure guests are treated well and have an excellent experience.
- 5/5
I wish more hotels made it as easy to check in. Bartender is just downstairs and breakfast was simple but amazing. Everything was fresh and local. If you are in Durango, you won’t regret staying at the Rochester.
- 5/5
Small boutique hotel that is very comfortable, spacious and clean. Every modern amenity. Small bar with craft cocktails. Parking needs an upgrade but otherwise a great place to stay
- 5/5
Such a cool place. I love to see old buildings brought back to life. The bar and staff were amazing.
- 5/5
Nice little lobby bar. Jake makes excellent cocktails.
- 4/5
There really wasn’t any check in. Everything is virtual. So, not much need to interact with the staff.
- 5/5
I'm a big fan of The Rochester. The rooms were decorated really well. The bed and pillows were amazing. I would recommend the hotel for the bed alone.
- 5/5
Loved how close it was to everything. Loved the bed and decor. Very quiet
- 3/5
This was not at all what we thought it would be--an historic hotel.,The bar in the lobby area is very cool but that is about the only cool thing about it. At $350 a night it was ridiculously over-priced. The cable tv worked almost none at all.
- 5/5
Pleasant modern rehab of a classic retro hotel. Easy access, right in town - walk to everything, including train. Outdoor garden for guests.
- 5/5
Amazing stay, really perfect hotel, great location, amazing staff. Provided a ton of great recommendations and made our time in Durango special. The coffee and breakfast was great as well.
- 5/5
Fabulous boutique hotel with modern, clean room. Service was wonderful, personal and friendly. Plush towels, comfortable bedding and upscale toiletries added to the experience. Hospitality included complimentary happy hour and coffee and pastry for breakfast. The location is great too, one block off Main Street.
- 1/5
I went to check in and my room had no electricity or air conditioning. I have requested a refund
- 5/5
I love the Rochester. It is my favorite hotel in Durango. We love the easy check-in, the rooms are roomy and clean, the bar area is fun and the garden area is such a nice little retreat.
- 5/5
Perfect hotel location and staff are amazing.
- 5/5
We booked last-minute, and the host was very kind and accommodating. Room was clean, comfy, and cool - the courtyard area is a nice, relaxing little oasis. Getting in late, the little touches like keyless entry and cushioned rugs in the hallway to dampen noise were nice touches. A great place to truly relax and get a good night's sleep in Durango.
- 5/5
Perfect stay - perfect staff and accommodations
- 5/5
Great hotel with friendly staff. Walk to bars and restaurants in Durango
- 5/5
This is an awesome hotel built in 1892 with a lot of really cool history. The staff is amazing! I'll be here again as soon as I can for sure!
- 5/5
The owner & staff were extremely helpful! They took they time to offer assistance in every way possible:)
- 5/5
Great find in Durango! We loved our stay here. Very friendly staff, very eco-responsible and convenient to everything in the Durango historic area. Would definitely recommend!
- 5/5
Unique - beautiful old building with modern beautiful and comfortable rooms. A block from the best bakery in Colorado.
- 5/5
We had an amazing stay at the Rochester. The rooms are nicely decorated with comfortable beds and curbless, walk-in showers. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. It’s right in town and within walking distance to everything. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The hotel and room was impeccably clean. The owner is hands on and very personable. Freshly baked goods with coffee in the morning and happy hour in the evenings. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Durango!
- 5/5
Great property, location, and friendly owners!
- 5/5
It was fantastic!😊
- 5/5
Beautiful and comfortable getaway in downtown Durango
- 5/5
I liked the coziness of the rooms and the proximity to shops and restaurants.
- 5/5
Great staff fun place to stay
- 4/5
Staff was excellent. Courtyard was dingy. No restaurant or bar. Tear out the courtyard and put in a small pool
- 5/5
The facility was nice organized and felt very comfortable staying there thank you very much
- 5/5
A gem in durango
- 5/5
Actually stayed at The Leland. Everything was perfect! Location, hospitality, cleanliness. Couldn’t ask for a better experience!
- 4/5
Be ready to have a surprise on price, over 300$ more of your reservation price from Expedia. I’d better know it before the uncancelled reservation is made that I should pay 20$ per day for each extra person ( more than 2). In addition, the sofa bed absolutely non comfortable. Good hotel but overpriced at the end.
- 5/5
This was our second stay at the Leland House and we enjoyed it very much. The room was very comfortable and we had a space heater to keep it at just the temperature that we wanted. The cook-to-order breakfast was delicious and the staff took good care of my gluten-free husband. They also helped us out with a deck of cards when we left ours at home.
- 5/5
Very nice suite for the price. Easily accessible to everything you need in Durango. Very pleasant staff and excellent breakfast.
- 5/5
Such a fun hotel. Great little social area for breakfast and evening cocktails. The owners and employees were super accommodating and friendly.
- 5/5
This place is great. Location is just off downtown. Rooms are super cute with a little extra space. Easy parking. The place to stay in Durango
- 4/5
We enjoyed everything about the historic property except for the historic toilet which barely flushed/drained slow. Very friendly service, great mattress, wonderful hot breakfast, and perfect location one block off main street.
- 5/5
We had a lovely one night stay at this cute hotel in the center of Durango, on one of the quaint shopping streets. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was made fresh. Home baked goodies, daily specialty item, really good tasting coffee.
- 5/5
Very nice small hotel is more similar to bed and breakfast. Included breakfast was very tasty but with limited choices. Rooms were spacious, clean and well maintained with new fixtures in bathroom. The staff were excellent. Location is only one block off Main Street and convenient to all downtown attractions. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Great historic hotel with spacious rooms, friendly staff, excellent location to shops and restaurants. And they serve a great breakfast too
- 5/5
It is nice to stay in a historic hotel such as this. It is very convenient for walking to the train and downtown shopping.
- 5/5
Nice small hotel as alternative to the big, dull chains. Good real breakfast with good coffee. Rooms were a little small, but upgrade to suite provided a nice living space and a small kitchen. Off the main street so it was quieter but close enough that you could walk everywhere. Included gated parking also a plus.
- 5/5
Great place to stay in Durango. Good location and very friendly and helpful staff. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- 5/5
Great location downtown, can walk anywhere without driving which makes Durango loads more fun. Delicious breakfast, great staff, this is the best place to stay.
- 5/5
The breakfast each morning was fabulous!! I loved the family owned atmosphere compared to a large chain. Everyone was so friendly and the place is adorable! We were upgraded upon our arrival and the staff and everyone we encountered were great! Would definitely stay here again! It’s perfect location for walking around downtown Durango!
- 5/5
This was the best hotel experience I have had in quite some time! I booked last minute and received a call shortly after checking on my arrival time and letting me know where to pull in. When I got there, the owner had stopped by and upgraded my room. The fresh-baked cookies they had out for the evening were delicious, as was the breakfast the next morning. Every staff member was super friendly and helpful. Room was comfy and quiet! Only thing I would suggest would be softer sheets :-). Definitely will stay again!
- 5/5
Very well restored old hotel. Excellent breakfast included and served in a lovely courtyard. All hotel staff members were friendly and eager to help. A wonderful vintage place to stay in a great town.
- 5/5
Everything about the Leland House was amazing. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Great location. Loved the history in the buildings
- 5/5
This hotel is in a great location, walkable to just about every place you would want to try in downtown Durango. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the breakfast and coffee in the morning was wonderful. I will stay there next time I am in Durango.
- 5/5
Great place to see Durango from. Walk to restaurants and shopping, friendly staff, great breakfast included.
- 4/5
Liked the friendliness of staff, location, amenities (free coffee/tea, cookies, a/c worked well). Did not like location and small size of room, and hotel was unable to accommodate a change.
- 4/5
Classic hotel. Room was small as was expected. Location was excelent. Staff was very nice.
- 5/5
Loved this hotel. Staff, room, breakfast, all excellent!
