Reviews
The hotel is praised for its prime location near the river and downtown area, as well as its friendly and accommodating staff. The cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel in general is also frequently mentioned as a positive. However, some guests have complained about the firmness of the beds, the quality of the breakfast, and hidden fees. Some guests have also reported issues with the cleanliness of specific rooms and the shower drainage.

- Firm beds
- Quality of breakfast and hidden fees

Location was PERFECT! Right off the riverwalk to enjoy a walk, fishing, cafes, bars or just a bench to read. A walk to the train. A walk to downtown. … looking forward to going back next summer.

After I left my initial review, management contacted me. Because I gave a 24-hour cancellation notice, I expected that at least two out of the three nights would be refunded. So far, I have received NOTHING. Not only do I strongly advise against staying here due to the poor condition of the hotel, but I am also incredibly disappointed by their dishonesty. I will continue to post an update on my experience every week until management actually follows through and responds to me.
- 5/5
The garage for parking is a dream for anyone who worries about hotel parking lots. It was clean, safe, and secure. Although a bit pricey, it was on par with the rest of the large chain hotels. The locations was near all the Main Street venues. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
- 5/5
Everything about our stay was excellent. They had covered parking for our Harley, the breakfasts were delicious and well-supplied and kept up. Housekeeping was efficient and personable, and front desk staff were all delightful.
- 5/5
The front desk Chris was and excellent customer service employee of the Holiday Inn Express and made the stay very relaxing and was accommodating with all her knowledge and experience. She made the entire experience amazing!!!

Superb
- 4/5
River front , walkable the bad thing was they had a lot of dust due to a construction in the Parking lot , also Expedia advertised for a free parking and they charged me a fee
- 4/5
Right on river ! Very clean Wish it was a bit closer to Main Street.
- 3.5/5
The separate bedroom and the view. The bugs flying around our balcony, water not hot, faucet leaking, and tvs not working.

The hotel is within walking distance of downtown. First time in Durango and we absolutely love the area!
- 5/5
Great location, comfortable, friendly staff.
- 5/5
This is a clean hotel, looks new or newly renovated. It is located on the river and within walking distance of the train and downtown. Our room was clean and quiet. Beds were comfortable but a little tall for me. They serve a nice breakfast daily. There is a pool, gym and ample parking. I would probably stay here again if in Durango. Only real complaint is it was expensive.
- 5/5
Nice location, breakfast was very good, plenty of selection. Clean room, beautiful view and balcony. None

Hotel Being on the river & river walk was great. Comfortable bed , room was nice, patio in back of hotel was real nice and breakfast was good although I would like hot oatmeal. 10 minute easy walk to Main Ave made shopping easy. One small detail was our first night we arrived I asked for a quiet room but we were put in a room along the road (noisey). I went to the front desk for a new room the lady said none were available along the back of hotel. That was not the case as the lady the next day first thing in the morning (8am) moved us with no problem. Thank you for the accommodation.

2 sets of towels? Really?
- 5/5
Cleanliness. Breakfast. Nothing we didn't like
- 4/5
I was not aware of having to pay for parking during my stay until I received my bill. The attendant told me if there was no parking at the front of hotel we can use the garage. The garage was great just didn’t know I had to pay a fee. Other than that stay was great
- 5/5
Easy check in, clean rooms, good breakfast. Centrally located to downtown area.
- 5/5
Parking was very easy . My favorite was the patio with an amazing view.
- 1/5
Everything was great! Unfortunately I had to leave and not stay since I found bugs in my room! Thank goodness I didn’t stay in there yet. I did bring the bug downstairs it looked like ticks but yeah it could have been bedbugs as well. I have no idea but it ruined my stay. I was in room 227. This used to be the spot I always stayed for work, but might need to find something else.
- 5/5
Amazing place.
- 4/5
Do not stay in a room facing the road! Super loud noise from all the trucks all night long. Other than that, it’s great
- 5/5
Very clean and quiet. Our room had a view of the river. We could walk to town for restaurants and shops.
- 5/5
Great property in a very convenient location. Staff was very helpful at the front desk, easy check in. I’ve stayed here before and appreciate the full breakfast, riverside tables, and it’s very clean.
- 4/5
Good breakfast selection but uncomfortable bed.
- 5/5
Clean room. Pleasant stay. Great location
- 5/5
Clean room. Good breakfast
- 5/5
Breakfast is what makes this place.itvwas amazing
- 4/5
Breakfast great. Room very clean. Didn’t care for the bed pillows. Highway noisy from my room.
- 3/5
The hotel was fine. The staff was not overly welcoming but efficient at least. They checked me in and took care of the business.
- 5/5
Great location and property. We opted for a non balcony room so we were on the street/highway facing side. There were trucks and a bit of traffic noise. We’ll select a river facing room next time.
- 5/5
Most comfortable bed on the whole trip, breakfast was great
- 5/5
Very clean room and convenient location. Courteous staff and quaint river view and access to local park
- 5/5
Clean and very comfortable room. Great shower pressure. Good breakfast. Happy to see the water cooler near the lobby area so I could fill my refillable bottle.
- 4/5
We liked the riverwalk area for our pet. Your staff was awesome! Thank you!
- 5/5
Excellent hotel! Clean, comfortable bed, good breakfast, helpful staff & good location
- 5/5
Beautiful view of the river and sound of the water over the rapids was nice.
- 5/5
Stay here at least once a year. Such a nice place. Sometimes the wife and I do staycation’s here. Love it.

- 5/5
Close to restaurants, wine bars and shops on Main Avenue.
- 1/5
No working toilet, no phone working in room.. told to use our own.. like what! No towels said to use app.. again what?!! No person on site to fix toilet. Did not tell us underground parking in demolition.. needless to say we left to another hotel. Do better Holiday Inn. Also get a friendly desk attendant. Horrible experience!
- 5/5
Perfect spot for access to all, extremely nice property.
- 4/5
Staff friendly. Rooms a little dated. Good price
- 5/5
I liked the underground parking. Didn't have to freeze getting to and from the truck.
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
The place was great!
- 5/5
Great breakfast, beautiful and clean room, friendly staff. Only complaint is the parking garage is not easy to get into or park in. Definitely would stay again. Beautiful location on river too!
- 4/5
Great location (walking distance to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad depot), very nice staff, clean room (ours had a nice view of the river), really good breakfast selections and nice dining area with view of the river. Very comfortable stay.
- 5/5
Front desk lady was awedone
- 5/5
The room temperature was very comfortable. The rooms was clean and stocked with everything I needed. On the other hand the shower contraption from the tub spigot was awful.
- 4/5
Great location and river views
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and helpful, loved the breakfast and the view
- 1/5
i didn't stay there. someone hacked my account.
- 5/5
Clean and comfortable
- 5/5
Clean, great center city location walkable or a 1 city block drive from historic dowtown (literally can see historic downtown road from hotel). Great breakfast both hot/cold & healthy options. Also next to natural grocers if that your vibe as well. Every morning after breakfast we'd head down to the indoor parking garage that exits right onto the Animas for disabilities access or also accessible via breakfast deck. Take a nice scroll next to the river and across the public bridge, makes some gorgeous pics. Highly recommend and will be returning.
- 4/5
Room was nice and clean. Had an odor in the bathroom that wouldn't go away but not a big deal. Door lock battery was low and kept clicking throughout the entire stay. Didn't realize it until it died the last morning. The breakfast was great and the food was hot. Parking was limited due to construction in garage
- 5/5
Its a pet friendly place too
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly helpful in the facility was very very clean
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Good experience. Will definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Thus was my families first trip. This place was very well maintained. Clean, great staff service, comfortable room, great location, good and great breakfast setup and convenience. Really, made our trip better.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly and very knowledgeable staff, and very clean facilities
- 5/5
Amazing customer service, clean beautiful proer with amazing views❤️
- 5/5
All around great service.
- 2/5
Check in was a mess because of the parking lot. The bed was uncomfortable. An unsupported complaint by the guests in the room next to ours ruined the getaway! Probably won't select this hotel again for a stay in Durango.
- 5/5
The breakfast was one of the best we have had in a hotel. The attendant was amazing!
- 5/5
Holiday spirit throughout the hotel.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Clean. Comfortable. Great customer service!
- 3/5
The staff was great and very kind. The rooms could be better on cleanliness. Bathtub had visiable yellowing line, bedroom surfaces were dirty.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. But the highlight of the hotel is the location. It's right along the Animas River and you can walk out the door to access the river walk. It's also really close to downtown. If you're looking for an affordable convenient option in Durango this is a great spot.
- 5/5
Courtiers staff clean room good breakfast
- 5/5
Awesome start, only issue was there was spider webs in the corner of our room
- 5/5
Clean room, very courteous staff and great location.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Clean rooms, great breakfast options, great location.
- 5/5
Food was fresh and well stocked. great views from back patio.
- 5/5
We appreciated the friendly check in, the comfortable room, and the breakfast. One weird thing in the room is the lack of outlets on one side if the bed and also at the desk area. Otherwise, no complaints and we will happily stay here again.
- 5/5
The breakfast was great. Love the biscuits. View of the river was awesome. Love the walking path along the river behind the hotel. Great staff. Very friendly. The airport shuttle was a life saver. An awesome stay.
- 5/5
Right on the river with a walking trail!
- 5/5
Nice venue, poor parking options, pancake machine wasn’t working, otherwise nice clean room, healthy choices at the breakfast bar, very friendly staff
- 5/5
Everything was great! It was a great location!
- 5/5
Wow!
- 5/5
Awesome Place
- 5/5
Close to a lot going on in Durango.
- 4/5
Room clean, pillows were horrible, we stayed six days each day the housekeeping got worse, friendly staff great location , great breakfast, great underground parking,
- 5/5
Very nice place location great
- 5/5
Has an issue with booking this hotel with hotels.com, a bit confused with the down payment for the booking and later learned the booking fees wasn't processed. Other than that, this hotel is at the great location, next to the river and walking distance to supermarket and main street. The room is good size, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great with 24/7 coffee machine.
- 4/5
Hotel was easy to get to and close to many restaurants. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was really good too.
- 5/5
Beautiful area by the river
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
Great breakfast
- 5/5
Great staff
- 5/5
The front desk staff are so kind and pleasant. Next the views on the wrap around patio are so beautiful and peaceful views of the animas river and mountains. We enjoyed sitting out with our doggy and wine listening to the river. The trail is steps away too. Plenty of yummy restaurants one block up onMain street. They offer free breakfast with costa rican coffee, gluten free bagels options, and even offered omlettes! The rooms were very clean and everything is updated. I will be back when we visit Durango again someday!
- 3/5
Okay
- 3/5
We did not receive the room we booked through Hotel.com. Front staff was increadible rude and told us we booked through a third party and they would only give us what they had available.
- 3/5
Check-in was terrible. I had with confirmation for two nights through hotels.com but hotel said we had only one night and hotels. Com modified it. Both hotels.com and ihg passed the buck back and forth leaving me in the middle with no solution.
- 4/5
Great stay due to convenient location.
- 4/5
Good value! The hotel is in a good location, neat, the staff is very helpful, and the included breakfast was very satisfactory. Only thing was my original room was on the ground floor and had a door leading out onto a “patio” which was pretty much the front parking lot so I didn’t feel very secure. Maybe convenient for someone who had a car parked in the front. I was able to change rooms but the second one (239) had an odd odor (something like sewage) coming up from the shower drain.
- 2/5
Pm. I had reserved a river view and got a parking lot view.
- 5/5
We loved our river view and eating out on the terrace overlooking the river!
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and professional. The views were lovely with the river right outside. It is a very walkable area with grocery and pharmacy literally across the street. It has secure underground parking and a good selection for breakfast. I thought this was a great place to stay and would definitely return.
- 4/5
The room was nice and clean. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly. I wish they had more towels and coffee options, all we had were light and decaf. The room was actually quiet even though the hotel is right next to the road.
- 5/5
This hotel has the best pillows
- 5/5
Hotel was centrally located to our visit. Grocery store and dining within walking distance. Covered parking was great.
- 5/5
The adjacent river walk was beautiful.
- 5/5
We always try to stay here when we’re in Durango. The check-in is straightforward, the rooms are always clean, and the location is priceless for downtown walkability. We’re not usually not breakfast people but the breakfast here is pretty great!
- 5/5
The property was all that I expected from HIE. The staff was excellent and most helpful. As a solo traveler, safety is key, and this location offers secure parking, safe access to the walking trail along the river in addition to a really good breakfast buffet.
- 5/5
Nice location along the river
- 2/5
The room smelled like sewer ...there is absolutely NO way to get a hild of them by phone...EVER.
- 3/5
So close to old town. On the river bank. Walk to everything. Great patio off the back overlooking the river.
- 5/5
Clean and comfortable
- 4/5
Breakfast options were great, staff at the front desk as well. However, our room wasn't cleaned on our first day, and then the second day, only one bed was made and the towels not renewed?
- 5/5
I enjoyed the central location of the property. It was so close to many of the things i did on my trip. The breakfast in the mornings were very good and a nice start to my days. The room was very clean and i loved the water pressure in the shower. Overall this was a very enjoyable place to stay and it made my trip to Durango, CO that much better.
- 3/5
Nice motel but very generic. We have stayed at the General Palmer hotel before and it has much more character and a more interesting breakfast and frankly a friendlier staff , more space in the room, and a better location without a parking charge. We won't stay at the Holiday Inn Express again.
- 5/5
Rooms were nice and very clean
- 4/5
A little expensive for what it was
- 5/5
Very nice stay!
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. Centrally located so it made it easy to walk and enjoy the town.
- 5/5
This is an extremely nice motel. Great location great view of the river. Walking distance to most of town. Clean comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Nice views from river front rooms, quiet.
- 3/5
Think you need to get a shuttle from the airport and softer beds
- 4/5
The location was great. Walkable to downtown Durango. The view of the Animas river while having breakfast was breathtaking. We even saw a deer in the river one morning! The breakfast was above average with many options. Our only complaint was the bed. It was incredibly uncomfortable and made for 6 nights of little to no sleep.
- 5/5
very impressed, really glad I chose this spot, way out of my expectation for Holiday Inn, the breakfast was awesome and I love the viewsand the Riverwalk is gorgeous
- 5/5
The river!
- 4/5
Can’t beat the views. Complimentary cookies and coffee are nice. The plugs and usb ports didn’t all work. Limited parking. No place to cross the street to head into town. Received a text from the hotel saying to text with any requests and when I asked for a 4 th towel, I was asked to come get it myself or wait till the evening time. Why only 3 towels with 4 guests in the room?
- 5/5
Excellent!
- 5/5
The breakfast was fantastic. Offered gluten free options as well as a great spread for a continental breakfast. Very impressed
- 5/5
Great location right on the riverwalk at the back entrance of the hotel.
- 4/5
Air conditioner unit had a horrible racket noise when ever it would turn on. No other rooms were available so we just lived with it. For some reason half way through the night the rumble noise in the AC unit finally stopped. Parking was very limited next to the main street.
- 5/5
Good place
- 5/5
Underground parking has 9 foot clearance
- 5/5
Easy garge parking. Free breakfast was very good. Layout of room was well thought out. Very clean.
- 5/5
Nice spot by river with easy trail access.
- 4/5
Great location on the River. Convenient & easy-going.
- 5/5
Room was very nice and location superb. Loved being river side.
- 5/5
Great stay and Cheryl help make the trip amazing at the front desk.
- 4/5
hotel is beautiful specifically being on river. walking path and park is littered with homeless. the hotel should pay for security. my wife and I felt unsafe walking dogs. really unfortunate as hotel and staff are fantastic.
- 4/5
Every thing was fine with the exception of the parking garage. There is a very tight, 90-degree entry into the garage which is difficult to negotiate. We were driving a mid-size SUV and had to be very careful. There is a limited amount of open parking at street level, which was always full. If you are driving a large pick-up, I'd probably look for lodging elsewhere. If you are driving something smaller, the garage entry is not much of an inconvenience and is more than made up by the close location to Durango's nice main street and the Durango-Silvereton train. We selected a unit on the river side of the building and were pleased with the view.
- 5/5
Very nice place, easy access to walk downtown. Love the parking arrangements. Breakfast was good but wasn't very warm.
- 4/5
Convince
- 5/5
Front desk was VERY helpful throughout the stay and made the arrival so simple and fast.
- 5/5
Cheryl who checked us in was soooo wonderful. Put us in the perfect room, told us about the area and made sure we got our cookie and dog biscuits!!!
- 4/5
Clean, quiet, and staffing professional. Breakfast is the norm. Notice all Holiday Inn express has pancake vs. waffle maker. Out 3 expresses, they were not used. Recommend bringing the waffle maker back. Allowed to check in early (nice when driving forever) and offed fresh chocolate chip cookies! Fantastic stay!
- 5/5
Great location, convenient to everything. Very clean, friendly staff
- 5/5
Loved this hotel. Excellent service and clean rooms. Terrific breakfast offered.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
The hotel is in a great location, on the main drag and with the reiver as a back drop. The main street area is a short walk (2-3 blocks), so we walked everywhere all weekend. The rooms were great, just what you would expect from a Holiday Inn. The parking was tight as the hotel is squeezed onto a small property lot, but they do have a parking deck around back. Our only complaint was the check-in process because none of my info transferred from Expedia, so we basically had to start from scratch. It was a small thing, but kind of frustrating after the long drive and the late 4 pm check in. Otherwise, no issues, the staff were great, and it was a really good breakfast.
- 5/5
We only stayed 1 night but would definitely go back
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Amazing staff. Always there to help definitely my favorite hotel to stay at in Durango
- 3/5
Had to ask for enough towels for 2 people
- 4/5
All staff was excellent
- 5/5
Lovely hotel overlooking the River. Great location. Walkable to all the shops and restaurants in the historic district. Staff was very helpful and gave some great recommendations of things to see and do.
- 4/5
Everything was good except the beds were too firm. Felt like I was sleeping on the floor. Other than that, it was a good stay.
- 5/5
the location by the river
- 5/5
I love the convenience to everything!! Durango is such a beautiful place! People are amazing and friendly
- 4/5
There is a scarcity of plugs for devices in Room 202. Several places had blank strips rather than electrical plugs.
- 4/5
All good. Stay there often
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
New facility. Fresh nice decor.
- 5/5
Great location!!! Walking distance to all the downtown area. Great customer service with friendly staff. Beautiful View of the river!!!
- 5/5
Early checkin was avaliable and the staff was amazing!
- 5/5
The property was clean and nicely located. The staff were helpful and friendly.
- 3/5
The little side couch had white stains all over it and food sticking out of it. We requested a room change and the room we were changed into smelled of poop and the same thing, the little couch had white stains on it and food sticking out. For the price and how newly built this is, I am disappointed. The underground garage didn't even have ventilation in and smelled of exhaust and had most parking spaces closed due to construction that looks like it hasn't been touched in awhile! Who ever painted the underground parking spaces didn't think it through. If you use some of those spaces, you wont be getting out! The side that opens up to the town is very loud and it seems almost impossible to get a river view. Only nice thing was we saw the train early in the AM. We were told there weren't much rooms available but the out door and underground garage begged to differ! Worst stay for my buck ever! Please seek else where as you will not get your value for the price you pay. These rooms shouldn't be more than $80 a night with the way they clean it. I felt like I was at a Motel 6 or something gross. NOT PLEASED AT ALL and I will NOT be staying here again and we visit Durango at least 4 times a year.
- 2/5
Every thing was fine until we saw that additional charge. Should have been mentioned when booking room.
- 5/5
Very comfortable and clean hotel in a nice location. The rear balcony opens onto the river and walking paths, which are lovely.
- 5/5
my wife became sick during our stay, the staff was very helpful during the night.
- 5/5
The property was impressively clean, the room and bathroom were spotless. Staff were super friendly, parking in secured garage was awesome, breakfast was really good, bed was comfortable and all in walking distance to Main for bars, restaurants and shopping. This was our first time to Durango and loved our stay.
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff very friendly. I am not happy that they charge a $5 per day parking fee, just build it into the daily rate. Additionally I am furious that they added a $5 per day “Green” fee to my card on file with no notification at the hotel. I don’t support this and will dispute the charges with my credit card company. I see zero reason for extra charges upon arrival, those fees need to be built into the room rate or disclosed at the time of booking so consumers are not surprised upon arrival at the property.
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay. Downtown. Close to shopping areas! Great food in the area. The view from the hotel was amazing! My kids and I enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was phenomenal. I usually don’t like continental breakfast and the food was so good. Very clean.

- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean hotel. Very close to downtown Durango. Will stay there again.
- 5/5
Upon first arrival, we found that our key card did not work. The replaced it immediately. The view from our balcony overlooking the Animas river was awesome. Very comfortable room. We will visit again.
- 5/5
Good place to stay
- 5/5
Animas River accessible walk path and the Polar Express Train.
- 5/5
Great place
- 3/5
Night and you could hear kids running around and jumping off the beds
- 5/5
Hotel was clean and safe. Loved our river view from our rooms balcony. The secure garage was wonderful and much warmer! Breakfast was wonderful as usual. Would stay here over and over again.
- 5/5
Staff was super friendly and accommodating. The place itself is modernized and the views are remarkable of the river
- 4/5
Nice newer hotel but very limited parking in parking lot and if you drive a pickup truck like most of Colorado does getting into the underground parking lot is extremely challenging. Close to everything downtown Durango. It’s clean, new and basic. The only complaint I really had was that the desk clerk with the neck tattoo was snarky with us more than once and when we tried to talk to him about it he just wanted to be right. That doesn’t scream “customer satisfaction”. We wouldn’t stay there again. Now that we’ve been there we can see there are a lot of better options in the area.
- 4/5
Overall a great experience would stay here again, just a little downside that they have smart tv’s with out the smart options available :(
- 5/5
Convenient location and friendly competent staff
- 5/5
Great location and easy walk to downtown. Hotel staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
Great service at front desk. Great location. Modern rooms.
- 5/5
Great place right on river walk, excellent breakfast, cinnamon rolls are the bomb.
- 3/5
There was a sliver of glass on the bathroom floor that i stepped on and had to dig out of my foot in the middle of the night. other than that would return
- 5/5
Room was comfortable, clean, quiet and offered a great view.
