Best location. Parked our car and traveled everywhere by foot or the 101 bus. Excellent breakfast. Quirky and fun. It is good to know that the refrigerator, coffee and microwave are in a shared space. No ice. Bring red wine and other beverages that don’t require chilling.

Location was good. Parking was good. Room was interesting in eclectic. Cook at a next-door restaurant for breakfast was grumpy and only did the bare minimum. Other than a breakfast croissant, nothing else was offered.

The breakfast that was included was phenomenal. There was a Peruvian restaurant in the front and guest house type residences in back. They had a coffee station available. The rooms were unique and interesting. The bed was very comfortable. You can see some of the ocean from the balcony. There were many restaurants and shopping available to walk to and enjoy. My husband is an artist so he really loved the place and wants to come back and stay. He prefers this over a Hilton or typical hotel. I highly recommend staying here. We will be back.

Style wise, it is eclectic- a mash up of fountains, plants, imported antiques, mosaic tile and quirky architectural details. That might not suit everyone’s minimalist aesthetic but we found it a relief from bland, generic hotels.

John who I assume is the owner of the hotel was extremely friendly and professional. The morning chef was extremely nice and the food he prepared was delicious. Also the ambience of the hotel was beyond beautiful . Hidden gem in San diego. Would stay again!!!!

The air conditioner is very loud. The whole room condition is very poor, everything is very dated, floor is dirty, only one soap dispenser has some soap in it.

First the good, the property is located at a higly walkable area with restaurants, parks, shops etc. One of the few places that had free parking and breakfast included. The bad, the rooms have eclectic decoration style, however the layout is very inconvenient for a multi night stay. The bathtub is inside the bedroom with a shower curtain separating the sleeping area and the shower. The ugly, the hotel did put any effort in cleaning the room before we reached the property. The bathtub and the sink had moldy stains, the entey way had spiders and cobwebs, the balcony was dusty withe dried leaves piled up. The worst of all the balcony curtains had red stains and moldy smell. The hotel didn't have onsite reception, we called housekeeping the next day after check-in for fresh curtains and bedsheets. Though we loved delmar we will opt for other places to stay next time for the rent we paid.

Great design, unique architecture, beautiful inner courtyard with plants and a pond, eccentric decorations in the room. Awesome breakfast cooked by the restaurant staff of the attached restaurant. Bed was very comfortable and the balcony was a nice touch. The most unique room I’ve stayed in. Room was very clean. Free parking in the back. Barely any hotel staff. Facilities felt like an afterthought. Not a great value for the price. Essentially rooms behind a restaurant with a unique center courtyard. Toilet broke while we stayed there, so I had to open the top and open the valve manually to flush. Essentially no front desk staff on hand to call for this as far as I could tell unless I wanted to walk back over to their sister hotel. Check in was not clear, ended up talking with the restaurant staff to figure out it was down the road at the sister hotel. Walking through the front into the hotel felt awkward, and the entrance in the back is certainly low key and unassuming.

Overall it was a nice stay, but the floors and some of the surfaces in the room were a little bit dusty/not the cleanest. Really nice look to the room though and you get your own patio! Jetted bathtub was nice and the area around the hotel is cool too. The Peruvian restaurant is super good as well.

There are just a few issues that if resolved could make this better. 1. The coffee bar was not stocked all the time. Breakfast was good but it would have been nice to have a cup of juice or mike with the meal. 2. The Microwave was broken. 3. One day we had no hot water. It was fixed not sure why it was a problem. All in all we had a good stay just need some finishing touches.

This place is a little hidden gem! You check in at their sister property, Les Artists Inn, and they show you the way to this property approximately 2 blocks away. It only has 4 rooms total. The vibe is a very Bali/zen type of decor. It is attached to a wonderful Peruvian restaurant where you get your FREE breakfast. Their empanadas are to die for! Don't forget to tip your chef!! He will take care of you! This place is in the heart of del mar within walking distance to all restaurants, shops, and the beach. We will definitely stay here again!!

The breakfast was excellent, convenient coffee maker, the jacuzzi tub drain stopper did not work, so we could not use it other than to shower, the manager is kind of rude, but the owner is sweet and a very talented architect and designer. This is a fun and funky place for a few days when in Del Mar. The location is great, near shopping and dining and only a five minute walk to the ocean. Our room, the Lotus room had a partial view of the water. Our innkeeper, John, was very friendly and helpful. Included is a great, made-to-order breakfast, provided by the attached Peruvian Cafe. Choose from about half a dozen delicious options. The croissant sandwich was so tasty that I had it both mornings. The room was not overly large but had everything we needed. It reminded us of some laid-back places we have stayed in the Caribbean. There are only four rooms so it doesn’t feel like a big corporate hotel. The Secret Garden Inn has a sister property in the next block, Les Artistes Inn, and it looks equally unique and fun. We would recommend it and would return if our travels take us to the Del Mar area.

Floor in room was filthy dirty, toilet was in a closet like room, shower ran out of hot water, there was no one on staff at the location so you have to walk two blocks to another location for assistance. Rooms are in back of a restaurant that has tables in the courtyard in front of your room. Very loud and smells like food all hours of the night. The noise from the restaurant was really bad. The breakfast doesn’t open until 8am (if they are on time) and there are very few choices from an unfriendly person. It was not good. Your only amenity is the breakfast, the spa is for the suite only. And the noise from the suite was unbearable. Sounded like they were constantly moving furniture around, but it was probably just thin walls. Don’t plan on a good partial view of the ocean either.

This place was ok. I thought for the price it would have been nicer. The size of the balcony and view are deceiving from the pictures. It was much smaller and overlooked the alley with a peekaboo view of the ocean. The furniture on the balcony was very uncomfortable. I also was not expecting the layout of the room to be as it was. The shower was not in a bathroom but within the room itself, same with the sink. The toilet did have it's own room with a door. The service was fine I would have just expected nicer accommodations for the price. But I guess you are paying for the location, oh and it's Del Mar, so there is that.

Cozy, great feel, comfortable. Right in the heart of pedestrian zone of Del Mar, lots of shops and eateries walking distance. Close to the ocean (but not on the beach). The penthouse suite we rented had huge patio with spa and fireplace.

For one, this was not a hotel/motel but a bed and breakfast place with none of the conveniences of a hotel. The room was small and no bathroom space. The cost was not worth it. I have stayed in other bed and breakfast places and this was the lowest quality. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. I asked for a hotel/motel and not a mini room. I thought that at $300/per night the place would be better quality. I was very disappointed.

The “hotel” is 4rooms behind a restaurant. It is very well designed and has a very zen feeling. It is quite odd , you go to another hotel a block away check in and the staff drives over and you follow. The property needs a major cleaning. There is nick jacks and everywhere. The room was nice and clean. The breakfast was nice you walk through to the back door and order.. they bring it to your room if you like, overall it is a nice quirky little place.

Location was great. The fact that the cost per night was just under $300 was too much for a room that didn’t have ample air conditioning caused for a miserable night. The hotel was hard to find and then once you think you have arrived you have to go to another hotel a few blocks away to actually check-in. Frustrating and annoying.

Bed was extremely comfortable you get to sleep with the patio door open all night long with the wonderful Ocean Breeze for us the drawback was there was no desk or easy chair in the room so no where to sit other than the bed.
