Reviews
Guests generally enjoy the hotel's location, staff, and amenities, but some express dissatisfaction with the high cost of parking, the quality of the beds, and the noise level. The hotel's proximity to the beach and other attractions is a major selling point, as is the helpfulness of the staff. However, some guests feel that the hotel is overpriced and that the quality of the rooms does not match the cost.
- Great location
- Helpful staff
- High cost of parking
- Uncomfortable beds
- 3/5
The hotel is under renovation and we were not notified about it. I've stayed there several times but this time we were very frustrated for not been able to enjoyed it as advertised. And no discount for the inconvenience. It is a lovely property but to visit only when the full renovation is complete
- 1/5
The hotels location is about the only thing it has going for it. The price you have to pay to be in a construction zone is more than it is worth the staff minus the valet staff was something you would expect from a motel 6 and charged the price of staying at a ritz Carlton which I would choose if rather than be placed from one inadiquite room to another. The rooms are crammed together and the size was that of a closet. Anyone thinking of this Marriott should consider otherwise and I’m extremely dissatisfied with the overall experience. I hope that they will get their act together as I enjoy most every Marriott stay I have had.
- 2/5
Very nice facility however it is undergoing construction a fact that we weren’t made aware of until well after the booking. They also charge a resort fee (why not include it in the price of the room?) which were not made aware of until check out. We also had to pay extra for maid service ( again we were not made aware until check out) and parking. Where in the hell am I going to park? The parking garage was full so most everyone staying there, drove there. It’s not the kind of place you walk to or take the bus to. The advertised room rate is not what you pay.
- 1/5
Half the resort was closed for construction. No mention of this when I booked the resort. This was my 3rd time and I’m very disappointed. I only came back from the good experience. This is unacceptable!
- 5/5
Friendly and very helpful staff. Well maintained. Would have like an additional restaurant choice and a pool area that wasn't geared to families.
- 5/5
Great room, very quiet, staff friendly. Parking should be free for hotel guests.
- 5/5
Staff friendly and very helpful. Sonia was exceptional. We had a bit of a problem (my fault) but Sonia was very understanding and offered to help resolve. Thankfully I managed to sort it out.
- 2/5
Customers should be informed about any major construction at the time of booking, especially when they are paying full price for the room and the resort fee. We also booked a resort-view balcony room, but there were fences outside our balcony. I can provide photos if needed.
- 5/5
Watch out because this hotel is under renovation so lots of construction going on which we didn’t know at the time of booking. We had a fabulous breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Jose the restaurant server was very attentive and accommodating. All staff members were very gracious under the circumstances of the hotel’s renovation.
- 4.5/5
Staff friendliness, cleanliness, and perfect location! Can’t wait for the remodel/ construction to be completed.
- 4/5
I always wanted to stay at this hotel. The problem was it was always $65p a night. I saw was $300 on Expedia so i got it. Problem was when I arrived half of the property is under construction. The parking was expensive and the property was all ripped up. It was ok but not what I was expecting.
- 4/5
Loved the staff very friendly helpful parking expensive but the valet service was awesome very helpful
- 3/5
We didn’t have a great stay here for the $457 one night price. Old, outdated and notably in the midst of a major renovation. Our room did not have a working TV, phone, or AC. We asked for help from Lu immediately upon check in and had to follow up twice to have any help or resolve. A lot of the property grounds are blocked off, and it wasn’t very convenient to walk around the property in spite of the gorgeous surroundings. For the price, I wouldn’t return.

- 3/5
I paid extra to have a view and the hotel is under construction. It was horrible. Everywhere you see outside the hotel had construction going on. If I would have known that, I wouldn’t have stayed there. The price was too high for that. I was very disappointed because I was celebrating my anniversary.
- 1/5
There is major construction at this hotel. I was advised the only way to avoid some of the noise was to pay for an upgraded room on the other side of the hotel. Once there it was where they parked the construction equipment and once that started was far from quiet!
- 5/5
However, room rates should be discounted during renovation on site. The property is beautiful and it’s a prime location for ocean views! Great staff and knowledgeable about area.
- 3/5
with construction going on You have to pay for parking your car
- 1/5
However, the valets were awesome
- 3/5
We had a room on the 4th floor and it felt like an attic room. It was dark and had 3 high windows. No view and a little claustrophobic. The room was clean but the a/c didn’t work properly. It was very loud and didn’t stay cool. It would be very warm in the middle of the night. We are Marriot customers and were disappointed in this stay. Especially for the cost and all the construction going on.
- 5/5
Excellent staff
- 1.5/5
Location was great Construction right outside my balcony after I paid more for an ocean view
- 4/5
Room was not cleaned for the last night of our stay. Had to pack our belongings and move to another room.
- 4/5
Nice place. Too cold to feel like a real resort. If you don't seek the resort vibe, it's great.
- 0.5/5
Marriott charged me for this stay even though I booked through Booking.com and now I can't get ahold of Marriott to refund me the double charge. If Booking.com can support, I would appreciate it. Please.
- 3/5
Ok
- 2/5
UNDER CONSTRUCTION. NO POOL. NO HOT WATER. BROWN COLD WATER! Bad Wi-Fi. This place was a disaster. Not only did the water not work on one day but when it came back on it was so brown it caused the white towels to turn brown. And they didn’t even provide bottled water in the empty fridge. Our balcony view was of a construction site! with construction noise all throughout the day. The Wi-Fi went in and out. Total waste!
- 5/5
Everything was great We have stayed here a few times and always a great stay.
- 3/5
The hotel should advise guests before their stay that there is a big remodel project going on.
- 4/5
Yes
- 2/5
Beware before you go - Marriott did not disclose construction- main pool is closed , we were put in a room facing garage, and bulldozer obstruct view of ocean- it was so disappointing
- 5/5
Yes and hotel was amazing
- 1/5
We were notified at check in construction was taking place directly below our room and the water was being shut off from !0:00 to 5:00. Not good
- 3.5/5
They are doing a lot of construction and had to shut water off to our room for 7 hours and this was terrible to have no water
- 5/5
Location was beautiful, room was good, restaurant was very good, nice pool-hot tub area with warm water! We also thought every staff person was extremely friendly and helpful. Soundproofing could be better. Noise reached us from hallway and adjacent rooms.
- 4/5
valet staff was very efficient
- 3/5
We could hear the people in the room next to us arguing and taking showers. They add a 20% service fee to everything even if you get the coffee from the barista in the lobby at the counter. The food was terrible and room service took 2 hours. They comped that meal but still... finally, our room was not cleaned until 4pm. We came back from activities at 3 and it was not cleaned. We had to call down for service.
- 1/5
Their "ocean view" rooms have no view of the ocean at all as they are completely blocked by tall trees. In the evenings and until dawn seals resting on the nearby docks bark loudly interrupting sleep. The hotel is also now undergoing massive renovations with dust and debris everywhere. People with asthma will have difficulties breathing. Even people with no asthma will be coughing heavily due to dust everywhere. None of this is advertised on their website nor Expedia. They should honestly disclose all of this before charging $500 per night. DO NOT STAY HERE.
- 3/5
We booked an “ocean view” room with what I believed was a balcony as pictured on your website. When we got there we were told that no balcony rooms were available (even though your website currently showed “5 rooms available”. We were at first given a room with a partial ocean view, but mostly a view of the city. We complained, and the front desk young woman actually walked us to 2 other rooms with an ocean view (but no balcony). She was very polite and helpful but she obviously had limited options available. We had to settle for another room without a balcony. The hotel staff were friendly and polite but there is obviously a disconnect between Expedia and the hotel.
- 5/5
The staff was exceptional at this property. I would love to return!
- 2/5
The hotel was nice, but not worth the cost. Save your money and use it for a more elegant hotel.
- 5/5
everything was wonderful
- 3/5
Views of the harbor First room no real ocean view, changed room slightly better view a Long long way on the property. Ac blasted our heads, had to switch to end of the bed, water from sink AWFUL SMELL, shower awful no glass??? Not really a good experience
- 0.5/5
by the ocean Massive construction going on. We were not informed that it would be all tractors working all day. I went for a medical conference. If I had known that there was construction, I would not have attended the conference or I could have found a cheaper, better venue. The fees they charge were exorbitant , almost immoral. Charging 20% gratuity every time you charge your food and drinks to our room is so dumb.
- 4/5
The grounds are beautiful - however - be aware that there are major renovations going on, so your “ocean view” may include looking over the construction zone. Ours was - but we requested a room change, and the front desk staff graciously accommodated our request. Overall, a great stay in a great coastal community.
- 5/5
Perfect
- 5/5
yes
- 4/5
There was construction on site. I felt the $532/night parking plus the $35 resort fee were excessive but it is a nice resort in a beautiful part of South Orange County.
- 5/5
Clean, well maintained and staff were courteous and helpful.
- 4/5
Construction ongoing
- 4/5
The receptionist was not honest
- 5/5
Great staff. Wish the bathroom had little cotton rounds and cotton swabs. Would also have loved bar soap.
- 4.5/5
Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Lobby and other public areas are well maintained. Room layout is different in a good way. The spa was awesome. Major outside spaces are under a year-long renovation. Gym is nice but the one piece of equipment i wanted to use was broken. The spa with a massage was extremely expensive. Men's steam was out of service but apparently women's was good. Even self parking is charged at an exorbitant rate. Should be in the room rate, especially for CA residents.
- 5/5
great place
- 5/5
Just the whole staff Very helpful and made everything just easier
- 5/5
Amazing staff. Great food and amenities.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Hotel. It’s very clean, beautiful view of the ocean, easy access to anything that you needed. Everyone was super helpful polite and we will definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Courteous staff, spotless room, gorgeous views.
- 2/5
nothing except our family was staying there also. The room was a suite but it was tiny and a tiny window. The place was so run down. The price was outrageous. No bottled water in the room. No Wifi. No free coffee in the lobby. Just a rundown old place.
- 1/5
Didn’t sleep more than 2 hours due to loud music, shouting people in their rooms and in the hallways. Advertised as having “soundproof” rooms. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Turned our anniversary weekend into a very unpleasant stay.
- 4/5
Decent hotel for an event with great views. The location is a bit inconvenient if you don’t have a car, there’s plenty of restaurants within walking distance but the property is entirely fenced in except for the main entrance meaning you have to circle the entire property to be able to leave from the other side where the nicer part of town is. Rooms were clean and spacious but not soundproofed, easy to hear your neighbors especially in the bathrooms.
- 2/5
What a poorly run resort. The staff were seemed to have better things to do than provide basic service. The pool areas were totally unsupervised - young kids swimming underwater in the hot tubs. Night club music blasted all day and several parties that went way too long into the night. So much for some R&R.
- 2/5
All my family was staying there so that was convenient. room was shabby. Sheets too small for a king bed. No free coffee in the lobby. Internet cost $15 a day if not a Marriott member. Ridiculous Overpriced. Not even a shower cap. Would never stay here again.
- 4/5
Nice view
- 5/5
Very good hotel. Super comfortable and well located. Restaurant is great and has a good variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The park just next to the hotel is stunning! The staff is super friendly and helpful. The pool is great! Nothing to complain.
- 5/5
It’s a good deal for the price.
- 5/5
Lu was absolutely wonderful at check-in; she went out of her way to ensure I could get in a room several hours before the standard check-in time so that I could get settled and go enjoy a festival near the property. I just appreciated it so much and want to give her a shout-out!
- 3/5
There were no bath tubs
- 5/5
This hotel
- 5/5
It's beautiful
- 3.5/5
Room was small and not what we were promised. Location beautiful! No breakfast, but dinner great! Too expensive, room was tiny and they called it a small view-you would have to stand on your toes to see it (small window, very high). The parking, never mentioned, was exorbitant! Fortunately they did return the "resort fee" as we were visiting friends and did not use any-not even pool or fitness. Overall, just okay. However, Excellent staff, service was great!
- 3/5
Very noisy and experienced sleepless nights
- 3/5
The hallways are very hot
- 5/5
Beautiful surroundings and clean well equipped rooms. Friendly and helpful staff
- 5/5
Very nice place to stay.
- 2/5
Great greeting upon arrival but horrible from there. From rude disrespectful hostess, to not cleaning room after asking twice for it to be done. Poor service once sat at restaurant. Called for valet to bring car up because we had electric rental that they charge you $35 extra per day. Have to valet electric cars. Told we wouldn’t be charged for having to wait twice more than 20 minutes even after calling valet from room only to be charged on departure and no manager on duty in early morning to handle. Sent email expressing poor experience and no reply yet. Beautiful place but very very disappointed
- 5/5
Everything was fine.
- 3/5
Love the hotel and love all the employees who are helpful and friendly but we did not get the room we reserved (we were supposed to get a balcony and we were on the ground floor) and our room was not great. It was next to some sort of utility/storage area where we hear the comings and goings of employees regularly. Other than that, love the hotel
- 5/5
Beautiful views everywhere
- 5/5
Nice stay. Friendly and helpful staff
- 1.5/5
Location Overpriced food, quality of food was very bad. Overpriced self parking was beyond unacceptable!
- 5/5
Beautiful place. Expensive parking plus facility charges add to room charge is a little too much
- 4/5
Location, pool, cleanliness, people, family friendly Pricey, rooms were not soundproof ( you can hear doors closing, people walking).
- 3/5
It was a beautiful property, nice location Sitting poolside mid-day and a guy starts power washing the pool deck; the noise was horrible and intolerable, forcing us to leave and not enjoy the outdoor space. AND there were ants in our bathroom, floor and countertop. I did tell the staff.
- 2/5
Location There were tons of ants in our room. Crawling on the bed, behind the bed, in the bathroom… disgusting.
- 5/5
Awesome stay! Very safe and accessible to everything. My grandkids loved it . Our room was amazing ! 2024. I would request that again. Parking and food prices very high.
- 4/5
The rooms need a little brush up, we haven't noticed any updates since 2019.
- 5/5
The staff were welcoming and friendly, while the views were absolutely gorgeous. Nothing was bad about the property per se, the only thing that was unfortunate was about booking through booking.com. Apparently the room I booked and paid for was in fact, unavailable as I found out when we arrived at check in. But the staff were very gracious and happy to help work with us to find a solution.
- 3/5
The hotel itself was nice, gorgeous views, but the extra charge of $52 to self parking plus resort fees and other random fees at check out amounted to an extra $100. My room on the first floor had a little patio that anyone could access from outside. The screen door didn’t close properly or lock and the sliding glass door had a broken handle which you had to slam to get it to lock. I felt unsafe. There were no other rooms available to move to. Check in isn’t guaranteed until 4 which was really late. I expected more for the amount I paid. I will try to avoid Marriott’s in the future.
- 5/5
Great hotel, excellent location. Food options limited but close to marina restaurants.
- 2.5/5
It was ok. Not worth 600 for the night To many kids
- 5/5
Room service quick and food was very good
- 5/5
Good job.
- 4/5
Good experience
- 4/5
Clean , the restaurants were very well decorated, the food can be better but it was ok We will definitely go back
- 5/5
We had a great few days at Laguna Cliffs. I enjoyed the pool and hot tub where drink service was provided. Many hotels in Laguna Beach don't have very nice pools. Just sayin'. We loved the view of the ocean and the marina.
- 4/5
Love the hotel, but was disappointed with the room as the bed was uncomfortable. We’ve stayed there a few times and have always loved the room so was a bit disappointed. Other than that absolutely loved the service, the people, the friendliness, the beauty, everything else was wonderful.
- 5/5
The staff her is always the best. Great property, close to ocean, very clean.
- 3/5
Hotel was beautiful, staff was great but we spent $285 at the Lanterns Egde, the food was not worth the price. You’re paying for the view. My husband got a $60-70 steak and when it was brought to the table they had pre cut it. Coming from Texas you do not cut a steak. All the juices had come out the the steak was dry.
- 5/5
Great property with Amazing views. The staff was very good. We borrowed bikes from the Hotel, which saved us from renting them from a local shop. Family friendly. The Gym was well equipped and there are free filtered water machines all over the property.
- 1/5
Terrible service
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Beautiful and staff is amazing!
- 5/5
My entire stay was great
- 5/5
A+++++++++++++
- 5/5
Loved the location and the area. Dining is not that great. No gluten free items at all, servers don’t know anything about allergies, and you have to pay extra for coffee.
- 2/5
Given the spectacular location, you would expect this to be an exceptional hotel. That it is not. While the property has a lot of amenities, everything is just Ok.
- 5/5
Room are very small
- 4/5
It was nice houses were stunning and the hotel had activities for my kids
- 4/5
Lovely hotel and spa! Would definitely stay there again, but I’ll skip the bar food next time. That was the only part of the stay that was underwhelming.
- 2/5
Parking is $60/night apart from resort fees. Furnitures are old and broken. Fell off the ottoman that rolled on its side, sustained wounds
- 5/5
Very nice Marriott property. Large outdoor area with fire pits & heaters. Friendly staff, good size room. Big bar area, parking garage. Would highly recommend.
- 5/5
Love this hotel!
- 5/5
Super awesome place to stay. Really nice staff. The walk to the beach is a short, but steep walk. Do-able, but be warned. 🙃
- 5/5
We hade a wonderful time
- 5/5
Was beautiful
- 3/5
The food was beautiful in appearance but absolutely tasteless which was surprising for a Marriott, ended up having to order door dash the last day is our only regret staying here. The entire team was very professional and friendly overall.
- 4/5
Only complaint was the seals on the doors are nonexistant and thus hallway sound is very noticiable
- 5/5
Enjoyed our stay here for our 26th wedding anniversary. . Was absolutely amazing. All staff members were so accommodating and wonderful. Simone and Christine at the Lanterns Edge were such a joy and so helpful during our stay. Very relaxing and amenities were top notch. Thanks to everyone at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort for a wonderful time. The Wassams
- 5/5
Lost our house in the Palisades fire and booked here to regroup. THE STAFF - EVERYONE - was extremely friendly, compassionate and generous. Never seen anything more heartwarming and restoring (in Humanity). This was perfect place for our stay!
- 3/5
Hidden costs are staggering. Outrageous cost for valet parking. Staggering cost for self parking. 20% gratuity forced on customer for bartender and any self serve attraction like the buffet. Resort fee charge. I paid supposedly all hotel costs up front prior to check in. Still had a staggering check out cost. I feel ripped off.
- 5/5
We stayed one overnight to attend a concert at the San Juan Capistrano Coach House and we really enjoyed out short visit. We will return for sure.
- 5/5
All the staff was helpful and friendly
- 5/5
A very nice location. Property was very clean and tastefully decorated for the holidays
- 5/5
Excellent customer service
- 5/5
The staff were extremely helpful and very welcoming!
- 5/5
Great hotel with kind and so helpful staff. The room was clean, spacious and renovated. I highly recommend.
- 3/5
Beware of the $35 a night resort fee and $52 a night self parking fee! The resort is very beautiful and overlooks the water but not sure it is worth the exorbitant costs. Really hate all the hidden fees.
- 2/5
Only one staff member at the front desk was professional he was an older guy; he was really great. The other staff were very rude and made you feel like you were not supposed to be there. The carpets on Level one have a very strong oder. The beds are by far the worst we have slept in in years of traveling. The food was average. We either went out to eat or Door Dashed. For the money you pay and the advertising they resort does it was not worth it. Many families in our team did not stay there because of this.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Love the area. Our room was nice would have like a little more privacy since we were on the lower floor but since we checked in early we had to take that room. Pools were nice hot tubs were amazing. The area is nice and restaurants are walkable we will be back.
- 5/5
Friendly service too
- 5/5
amazing loved every second
- 5/5
only per day parking cost is little high
- 5/5
Very pleasant atmosphere and lovely staff.
- 5/5
Beautiful Ocean view and convenient shops nearby
- 5/5
great hotel with magnificent views and comfort.
- 5/5
Great hotel walkable to everything with easy access to Dana Point Harbor
- 4/5
Beautiful property and great walkable surroundings. Staff was generally great but most of our stay they skipped our room - had to call for towels and other standard items. Never explained why and although we reminded they still didn’t show up. Also free wi-fi is only for direct bookings.
- 5/5
Excellent remodel with great walking and views. Food was great as well!!
- 1/5
I travel alot for pleasure and for work. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Will never return!
- 5/5
A stunning resort. Meal prices were outlandish
- 5/5
The staff were beyond accommodating and made our stay that much better.
- 5/5
Great shops and restaurants in the area. There is a very nice lounge area on the patio with firepits.
- 5/5
Wonderful property down by the sea. Super dog friendly and nice spacious rooms.
- 5/5
…
- 5/5
Service is excellent. We felt well looked after.
- 2/5
Poor check-in lost reservation. Upgraded us but it was not what I expected our ocean view was of the swimming pool. outrageous parking fee. you had to pay for the internet - in this day and age - The map of the resort did not show that there was 2 swimming pools so we endured the pool with all the noisy kids and one even mentioned to his mother he would get out after peeing in the pool. The restaurant was badly lit I could not even see the plate of clams that iw as eating, I requested candles and that was a joke - wife's sea bass was overcooked and the clams were so-so. We will never visit this resort again
- 4/5
Excellent surroundings and perfect Dining experience. Parking is expensive though.
- 4/5
Beautiful property near the ocean with great ocean views.
- 5/5
Amazing stay. Clean rooms. Accommodated all of our needs. Lots of activities for kids
- 3/5
Also apparently new self park system and still working out kinks, so was double charged. Still waiting for that to be resolved.
- 5/5
Great experience- very good for families
- 5/5
Pleasant place to stay.
- 1/5
Service was sub par, expensive and overall bad experience. Not recommended.
- 5/5
Beautiful views of Dana Point from the hotel and beach full of surfers. Enjoyed the 2 pools and hot tubs on the property. Bonus checking out Salt Creek Beach, one of the most vibrant, clean and fun beaches in Dana Point- Laguna that is 25-30min trolly ride from the hotel. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing, no attitude always willing to help with any question requested. Food in both venues was excellent as well as the attention of staff during service. Room clean and accommodating for our needs. Grounds were clean view of the ocean was breathtaking.
- 5/5
Perfect vacation spot on the beach and 20 minutes from Laguna Beach. Excellent staff at the front desk and in the restaurants. Will most definitely be visiting again.
- 5/5
Great stay, great property and staff
- 5/5
First of all, I loved the location and the beauty of the building, etc. We were greeted with smiles and offers of help. The rooms, and their views, were lovely. The service was wonderful and the food delicious. My three daughters and I were all very pleased with the service.
- 5/5
Great Experience
- 5/5
Very nice
- 3/5
Crying baby kept us up two nights because of thin wall at adjoining room door. Loud music at pool started at 8am. Preferred restaurant closed for private event. Pool area nice. Parking is very expensive.
- 5/5
Good property, parking was too expensive
- 5/5
This hotel is stunning, clean and the staff is lovely and helpful! We had the best time and will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Excellent place
- 1/5
We decided to try Laguna Cliffs Marriott because it was touted as family friendly with plenty of things to do. First, although they knew I was booking 2 rooms b/c we’re a large family, the rooms weren’t connected/joined. Staff came off as cold, unwelcoming; we felt awkward. Also, they need to have better communication or onboarding for 1st time customers. It would have helped to know that they charge $20 per person for continental breakfast (muffin, fruit, and juice or coffee) and $40 per person over the age of 11 at their downstairs restaurant for breakfast—and on top of that, they ask that you make a reservation for breakfast. It felt like we were getting gouged at every turn. Housekeeping decided to stop by at 8 or 9pm on our second night to give us fresh towels. We were very unhappy. We could’ve just gone somewhere else for half the price, and saved some money.
- 5/5
Excellent fitness center. The hotel is well located for views of the harbor and walking into the nice part of Dana point for dinner and shopping
- 5/5
Amazing views, great location
- 5/5
Overall, a beautiful resort.
- 5/5
great hotel
- 5/5
Beautiful views and fun 4th of July celebration
- 4/5
Most staff was extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Parking staff was made me feel rushed especially was I was not forewarned there was a valet only option I was not organized for a one night stay and although I did not need assistance I needed more than 30 seconds to grab my items and determine what I would need since I wouldn’t easily be able to retrieve something I forgot. Also I didn’t appreciate no where in the description did it note it would cost $60 for parking which if you bothered quoting me the $35 resort fee I would have to pay at the hotel that wasn’t included you surely should have told me about the $60 valet parking fee I would be required to pay since there is no self service parking on site or anywhere nearby.
- 5/5
Nice resort. Good location.
