Reviews
The hotel receives mixed reviews, with guests praising its wonderful location, quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and proximity to walk-to places and parking. The staff is frequently commended for being friendly and helpful. The breakfast is often highlighted as excellent. However, some guests express disappointment with the state of the rooms, citing old carpets, black and dark green bathroom tiles in need of a scrub or replacement, and low lighting in the shower. The photos online are also noted to be different from the actual rooms.
- Wonderful location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Rooms in need of updating
- Discrepancy between online photos and actual rooms

wonderful boutique hotel! Staff was amazing and breakfast was delicious.

Location great. Plumbing problems not good. We had to change our room. Breakfast and wine and cheese were good.

The staff is very friendly and attentive. The property is well maintained and breakfast was delicious. This is our second stay at the Inn and we would definitely come back again to stay.

Very comfortable and great location Wish we would’ve been told about the possibility of an available room next to us that had a better view

Great coastal, warm vibe here and the staff are superb! Pricey for one night.

We had a great anniversary here

Great spot, great view, great breakfast, great happy hour. The room and bed were really comfy. We had a first floor patio and used it many times.

Great stay. Beautiful location, overlooking the Dana Point Harbor. Lovely outdoor patio that you can enjoy the sunshine from. Their wine and cheese hour was awesome, with different wines to choose from and delicious snacks. My flight from the East Coast arrived early and they were so kind to accommodate a morning check in for me. Staff was very nice! I was able to walk to restaurants and eateries in the area, which was amazing since I didnt have a car with me. Would recommend!

To get hot water in the sink we had to turn on the bathtub full blast so it got to the sink. Really? The TV stations they offer are a joke. Half are not english and the other half are HSN. Breakfasts are ok. Today they ran out of Blueberries and bananas. The scrambled eggs had the consistency of a rubber ball. The room we had was large, which was good. The strength and flow of the shower was very weak. Overall not worth the price

Very beautiful and comfortable. Quite and relaxing, close to the Dana Point harbor for a nice walk. Breakfast was very good and the staff was great! We will definitely return for another stay. The fan in restroom was loud.

Great location and clean It feels like an retirement/elderly home. The staff is great but the hotel needs a revamp - without losing its charm.

The location is really the best. It’s in walking distance to the harbor, the small “downtown” area with access to restaurants, and the local hiking trails. The beaches are also close and they are really beautiful. I also really enjoyed all the amenities of the room itself — the slippers, robe, toiletries from Grown Alchemist, a steamer instead of an iron, the high quality towels. The bathroom is spacious with a wonderful hot tub. The room itself even has a fireplace and the seating was comfortable. I really appreciated that the room was genuinely very clean. The breakfast each morning is excellent with great variety, and always impressively crispy bacon. The early evening wine, crackers, cheese, and bites were so great! On check-out day, the staff was so accommodating as I wanted to finish some more work there after check-out — I had the library and dining room to be able to get my work done and afterwards, they were more than helpful in storing my luggage and offering suggestions for where I can go on a beautiful walk. I do wish the tea selection was available in the room itself, but it doesn’t overall take much effort to just head down to the main lobby for tea and water (usually infused with fruit). I did pay for a room with a balcony view of the water, so it is costly —- it was right next to the little public “square”/gazebo area and so you can hear all the conversations happening as many people stop by the area on their walk or in touring the region. It’s a great view and luckily, people aren’t usually in that area once it gets dark. I did stay in the middle of the week so I loved that it was overall quieter, but I can imagine it being rather noisy on busy days with a lot of guests.

Breakfast was fresh and amazing

The room was marvelous with a fireplace, patio facing the Pacific, a walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub, a mini fridge, coffee maker and everything I could want! There was a patio overlooking the marina with lounge chairs, tables and chairs too. Breakfast was NOT store bought mini muffins and coffee. It was beautiful scrambled eggs with cheese garnished with cherry tomato halves, crisp bacon, real roasted potatoes with thin onion slivers, oatmeal, French toast, freshly made yogurt, incredibly fresh melon (3 types) and pineapple slices, freshly baked full-sized muffins, toast, English muffins, granola, juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate! Not at all what I expected. The staff was please, professional and efficient. I’ll look forward to returning!

The only positive part of our experience was Catalina at the front desk. Prior to arrival, she was helpful, responsive, and ensured my wife could check in early if needed. She also communicated clearly and made the check-in process smooth. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not match the price point or expectations of this property. We stayed for a special occasion—my wife’s birthday—and paid nearly $700 for one night. Our room had a very loud, disruptive hydraulic-type noise occurring every 20–25 minutes throughout the night. It was frequent enough to make it difficult to rest. When we brought this to the attention of the evening front desk staff member (Kathleen), her response was dismissive and unhelpful. She stated that there was nothing she could do until she reported it to maintenance the next day, added that she is “a heavy sleeper so it wouldn’t bother her,” and suggested that if it got too bad, we could “try sleeping in the bathtub.” This response was inappropriate and far below any reasonable standard of hospitality. In addition, while it was communicated that we were celebrating a birthday, there was no meaningful acknowledgment. Two pieces of chocolate were left in the room without a card or note, making it unclear whether it was intentional or standard for all guests. Meanwhile, visible hospitality gestures (such as champagne service) appeared to be extended to other guests but were not offered to us. The overall tone of the interaction felt noticeably different from how other couples were being treated, and it left us uncomfortable. We raised our concerns again with the front desk staff (Leslie) the following morning and were told a manager would follow up, but we have not received any communication since. For a hotel at this price point, the level of service, responsiveness, and overall guest experience was disappointing.

A quaint little inn in Dana Point. Staff were friendly and the room was spotlessly clean. The inn is not on the harbour front as a map suggests, but there is plenty parking. This establishment is probably best suited to clientele in their golden era. It’s charming but not for youngsters!

Everything was perfect, can’t wait to return!

Everything and everyone was terrific!
- 5/5
Room was immaculate. The view of the harbor from our room was amazing. Loved all the little touches of hospitality....sparkling wine toast at arrival, wine and cheese hour, hot breakfast buffet, illy espresso machine in the room.
- 5/5
This is a well-run hotel. Great staff who know what they are doing. Excellent hotel!
- 5/5
A beautiful place nestled above a beautiful harbor.
- 3/5
If you live on the first floor, the staff preparing breakfast in the morning might wake you up. Also, the pillows are too high, the mattress is too soft, and the bed frame makes strange noises.

Leslie was great. From start to finish this hotel is amazing. Unique and unlike any other hotel stay. It’s original, fun and the views are spectacular.

I enjoyed staying at your hotel. My room was absolutely gorgeous clean and comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding and of course I love the fresh muffins every morning.
- 5/5
Beautiful and serene location. Charming boutique hotel with excellent service, food and magnificent view of the bay at Dana Point. It is within walking distance to shops and restaurants but to get down to the beach it’s better to drive. Whale watching was wonderful.

- 5/5
Very impressed with the room size, amenities, cleanliness, and location. It truly lived up to the reviews I read and I was very satisfied with the booking.
- 5/5
We loved everything about this exceptional hotel -- the location, the incredible view, the spacious room, the friendly staff, the breakfast, the afternoon wine and cheese, the free/easy parking.
- 5/5
Great hotel, well maintained, clean, very nice and helpful staff. I found the bed a bit soft and wish that breakfast, which was good, had included fish choices.
- 5/5
Friendly service, great clean rooms, fantastic location and wonderful breakfasts.

Our stay at the Blue Lantern was truly memorable! We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and had booked a room with an ocean view. Not only was the room available 2 hours before check in, we were given glasses of some very nice sparkling wine to start off our celebration. A couple hours later, we joined in the complimentary happy hour with wine and appetizers. We were expecting just some cheese and crackers, but the staff served platters of salad, fruit, veggies, the works, that would make a very nice light dinner for some. We were heading out to dinner shortly, but the light bites were just right to hold us over. After dinner and a pleasant walk around the lantern district around the inn, we returned to our room with a spacious balcony overlooking Dana Point harbor. We proceeded to enjoy the spectacular view accompanied by the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine we received as an upgrade. Before leaving the next day, we partook of the complimentary breakfast. Again, Blue Lantern exceeded our expectations with a very nice spread of eggs, bacon, yogurt, bagels, granola, fruit, along with some really good coffee. The friendly staff made sure the breakfast area was clean and the food well stocked. Thank you for a great stay, Blue Lantern!
- 1/5
The property itself is beautiful, and we were genuinely enjoying our visit, until we had to leave quickly. However, the lack of human consideration during a difficult moment speaks volumes. I understand policies exist for a reason, but a little empathy goes a long way, and sadly, that was missing. Will not attempt to stay at a 4 Sisters Inn again in the future. While emergencies are rare, this facility doesn’t extend care.
- 5/5
The Blue Lantern is a beautiful boutique property. The location and ocean views were serene and the hotel staff were all very welcoming. It is a perfect place to get away. We look forward to a return trip.
- 5/5
Nice and convenient location with easy parking in quiet area
- 2/5
But the worst thing is I had a prepaid room yet they charged my card the full price again at check in plus a $300.00 deposit so all in total $2000.00 which if I wouldn't have caught it on my bank statement never would of gotten it back. I called they did refund me hardly an apology at all. And i had to wait almost 2.5 weeks to get my refund. On top of it all I stayed in the room less than 12 hours as my uncle had passed away and I had to rush out. When I told them in the morning the breakfast I had ordered the night before would need to be cancelled they hardly had a care at all. After all that still charged me 50+ dollars on a breakfast I didn't get to eat. No offers of a discounted or upgraded stay In the future. Just yeah our mistake it's been refunded. Used to love this place. Won't be staying again.
- 5/5
I like the cleanliness of the property, guest rooms, dining area etc . Very well located , walking distance from restaurants and some hikes . Friendly staff . Good breakfast etc . I did not like that the AC in my room was kind of loud . But overall great place to stay !!
- 5/5
Another great stay-our 3rd. Stanley is a delight.
- 3/5
Staff was not as nice as I expected for what I paid. The jet tub didn’t work I called the front desk and they didn’t seem to care and said there was nothing they could do to accommodate
- 4/5
Cute but not a luxury property. Balcony view was nice, room was comfortable but showing some age and wear. Bed was clean but carpet was really stained all over. Bathroom was nice. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Overall it was on the expensive side for what it was.
- 3/5
The only issue was the jacuzzi tub only has 3 of 6 jets working. I was really looking forward to the tub.
- 5/5
Great hotel, loved the atmosphere and service. The views are immaculate and the front desk are friendliest
- 5/5
Cute Inn - nothing fancy and even a little dated but charming, lovely with a home style approach with their guests. Beds were comfortable. Will def go back.
- 5/5
The blue lantern is a beautiful property in an amazing location. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. My wife and I go there frequently for our dates and it is always an exceptional experience. The rooms are clean and beautiful. Very relaxing and just an all around fantastic place to stay
- 5/5
My stay was really great. Had a blast with my family. The views overlooking the ociean was beyond amazing.
- 5/5
Very comfortable and the hospitality and service was excellent.
- 5/5
Great property
- 5/5
Five star on every level. Never a disappointing stay.
- 5/5
The Blue Lantern Inn was fabulous. Great breakfasts and afternoon wine tasting. Our room was perfect with a balcony and nice view of the harbor.
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay. Breakfast was nice with fruit, eggs, bread, coffee, wine. Bikes available although a little cool to ride. Nature walks walking distance and local parks. Restaurants walking distance or short drive. Not a hassle to park anywhere. Good hotel parking.
- 5/5
Have stayed here several times and we just LOVE this place!!! So clean, food delicious and the BEST customer survive!!! Highly recommend!!
- 5/5
Fabulous stay! Don't miss out!
- 4/5
Night manager Kathleen rude and unnecessarily insensitive to us because we booked through Expedia. The General Manager however was appalled at our experience with Kathleen upon arrival, upgraded our room, extended our stay in the finest room on the property and did her best to make our stay absolutely delightful. Because of her we would not hesitate to return and recommend this property without reservation. She deserves 6 out of 5 stars.
- 5/5
Boutique hotel with large upscale hotel amenties and services. Staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast offered everything, even Gluten Free options and alternative milk (Almond, Soy). Afternoon "happy hour" with appetizers and wine was the perfect way to cap the day after working at a conference.
- 5/5
Staycation for quiet get away. Beyond expectations and will be our only hotel in the future. Compared to big name hotels at 2.5 nightly rate this had better food, stone quiet peaceful rooms.
- 5/5
I would like to say this place on a hill overlooking Dana Point is Beautiful. Relaxing, and 15 minutes away from anything you would like to do. The property itself is Wonderful too. You will enjoy everything here.
- 5/5
beautiful location and such warm hospitality from the staff!
- 5/5
I like that the property is by the port and it overlooks Dana point very peaceful, quiet guest are friendly very family oriented and customer service is A .
- 5/5
I loved it. I don’t know what else to say. Everything was great. Everybody was nice. I had one little issue, but the overall experience was amazing.
- 5/5
The rooms are very spacious, the bed is comfortable. The shower pressure is fantastic! There is even a huge tub, and they give you their custom bath salts. Fire place. Breakfast is served each morning, and it is delicious. I guess the only negative I would say… As we did not stay long enough!! Cannot wait to return.
- 5/5
A quiet place for us to enjoy . good views. Friendly staff. Good location
- 5/5
Staff were very accommodating. The location beautiful. The breakfast was delicious. Best gluten free cookies in the evening!
- 5/5
Beautiful area, room was very spacious and bed was comfortable
- 5/5
One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Our room overlooked the marina, and the views were amazing. The staff were also really great. The breakfast was great, and the the cheese and wine (happy hour) in the afternoon between 4:30 and 5 was a really nice touch. The hotel was really quiet. Local food options were also great. I would highly recommend this hotel and we will be back.
- 5/5
The hotel is super cute and quant. We will definitely come back. I booked this because I wanted a large soaking tub and it’s HUGE. sushi restaurant is so yummy and walking distance.
- 5/5
I have been to Dana Point several times, but this hotel is on the harbor and I had always wanted to stay there someday. When I actually stayed there this time, I was surprised to find that it was even better than I had imagined. The cleanliness, the quietness, and the hotel staff are wonderful !
- 5/5
My husband and I wanted a hotel close to the ocean and we got it staying here! Clean, so so friendly, helpful, the food is good! We loved the cookies and water they had out daily and the breakfast is something to look forward to! We just loved it here. One of our favorite features of our room was the gigantic bathtub. AMAZING. The staff is so kind and always asking how they can help you. The hotel itself is so cute and it feels like a cottage. We already can’t wait to go back 😍
- 5/5
My trip was too short I wanted to stay longer
- 5/5
Great place. Friendly people and delicious breakfast and treats.
- 5/5
If you are looking for a quiet stay with great views of the Marina, this is a great place to stay! Within walking distance to some great restaurants as well!
- 5/5
They said there was a complimentary breakfast, but it was more than that. It was breakfast and a pre-dinner snack. And I would like to add, the chef (Antonio) was excellant. This was not your inclusive free meal. Everything made was so good. I loved it. Also the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. If you ask for something, you got it with a smile.
- 5/5
This is our third time at Blue Lantern Inn and it certainly won’t be the last. Everything is perfect - the rooms, the breakfast, the staff. Everything!!!
- 5/5
Very friendly staff and generous amenities!
- 5/5
This property is just magic! The kind persons that are working there, the amazing breakfasts, the bikes you can borrow to go around, the rooms, everything is just perfect and as soon as you enter the place you have that feeling that you are somewhere special.
- 5/5
Need to fix the air conditioning noise. Breakfast fantastic as well as happy hour. A perfect place with fantastic location and views
- 5/5
Our room was perfect with comfortable king bed, large bathroom, convenient sitting area with coffee table & second TV. Coffee maker with Illy coffee pots were a plus!
- 5/5
Fantastic relaxing stay! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was very good and really convenient. Will definitely be back!
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Great food.
- 5/5
Friendly, relaxing, helpful, beautiful views
- 5/5
Wonderful Blue Lantern
- 5/5
Breakfast was outstanding
- 5/5
We usually stay in Newport Beach but decided to stay in Dana Point this time. We liked the property but next time if we decide to stay there will make sure we are not on the bottom floor. (Noisy people upstairs)
- 5/5
We had a lovely time at Blue Lantern Inn. I loved the way it was decorated with such thoughtfulness to feel more like a cozy home with wainscoting and ceiling covings, real pieces of furniture vs built-in hotel furniture, lovely gas fireplace and nice sofas. The beds were so comfortable too. But best of all was the amazing breakfasts! They were not the normal fare but specially designed and cooked - so delightful and delicious! Also loved the complimentary wine/champagne and cheese and other goodies served from 4-5:30! Careful attention to detail can be seen throughout. We will be returning!
- 5/5
Great location with beautiful views of the Marina and the rooms were clean and loved the fireplace!! Breakfast was great!
- 5/5
Quaint place with great service and amenities.
- 5/5
Great views! Wine and cheese in the afternoon. Good breakfast.
- 5/5
Blue Lantern Inn was a gem in the ruff. Wonderful accommodations and great breakfast and afternoon appetizers. Wine could use a little upgrading. All in all a GREAT experience. Beautiful views from room.
- 5/5
Nice place, very cozy and clean.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay a lot and highly recommend it to others!
- 5/5
Gorgeous spot, clean, easy to park. Friendly, helpful service.
- 5/5
Nice location above the Dana Point small boat harbor.
- 4/5
Check in was not great, front desk lady was mean, room is nice but bathrooms and beds need updating for the price. The social hour and breakfast are a nice perk.
- 3/5
Bed was uncomfortable. Window screens partially broken. Front desk personnel were friendly. The patio is shared with other rooms removing privacy. Breakfast was ok.
- 5/5
Was perfect and romantic
- 1/5
The staff downgraded our room. We booked Ocean View King Balcony ($568). she gave us Pacific Edge King Balcony($513) without refunding. She told us there was no Ocean View King Balcony available. But we found out there were a few Ocean View King Balcony rooms with no one staying at later time.
- 5/5
The Blue Lantern Inn feels like home away from home. Everyone is so friendly, breakfast is delicious and the views are to die for!
- 5/5
Very cute
- 5/5
Perfect way to celebrate my 60th bday! Lovely hotel and delicious food and amazing views. Our go to for celebrating
- 5/5
Everything was perfect. We love it here, so comfortable and everyone’s very friendly. This is our second time here and it won’t be our last. The view of the Harbor is spectacular!
- 4/5
Mixed review here. The location is wonderful the concept is great with the bed and breakfast feel. I would say the rooms definitely need updating. The carpets are old and have a smell. The bathroom tiles are black and dark green and need a good scrub or replacement. The lighting is low in the shower so the sludge that has built up in the shower corner on the black tile is difficult to see. The property is very quiet and peaceful. Has great walk-to places and parking/navigation is easy. Overall a good stay but the photos on line are much different than the actual rooms. Or maybe we were given one that was just not updated.
- 5/5
Love love love this property. Staff extremely pleasant and entire property very clean.
- 5/5
Great morning breakfast and afternoon wine and chese
- 5/5
Beautiful spot for a getaway. Breakfast was excellent and the staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
Generous free buffet breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese. Walking distance to many places to eat and drink, great ocean and harbor views. Very happy we chose to stay here, would stay again.
- 5/5
First time here! Highly recommend
- 5/5
Great location. Beautiful view.Quaint and unique.

The hotel was nice and the breakfast was good. They had gluten free and regular chocolate chip cookies in the lobby and tea. Staff was friendly. The room was clean and bed was very comfortable. They had Fiji water bottles in the room instead of regular cheap water bottles which was really nice and the bathroom has a jacuzzi tub which was great! I also loved that they provided a loofa scrubbing pad, lavender bath salts and slippers. The only bad things were that the walls were pretty thin. I could hear sounds from the hall while h was laying in the bed. There’s no access to the beach but a nice view and sitting benches

Blue Lantern Inn was amazing. The location is perfect. The amenities were amazing and plentiful. Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. The majority of the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating; some more than others, but most were very responsive.
