Super 8 by Wyndham Crystal Lake

Hotel smells like a smoker was in the room and hallways. Bed was uncomfortable and bathroom floor needed mopped

The worst hotel I've ever been in! I thought that being a Windham hotel that it would be better, but no. The slightest noise was so easily heard in our room. My wife and I did NOT feel any privacy and we ended up leaving super early and checked out I think it was around midnight. We both thought, "why put ourselves through this?" So we left! There are other hotels in Crystal Lake, IL. do not choose the Super 8. Definitely not worth the price of the room!

We left an hour after checking in Stains on sheets ceiling was cracked and collapsing. Ice machine was broken out of order AWFUL

Cart fell apart and hit us in the head and made a gash. side Door was not open. No breakfast 2 of muffins. Nothing but cereal

You get what you pay for. I had an interrupted night of sleep with loud guests or employees right outside my door and an ice maker that was so loud I'm sure it needed service. I didn't want to leave a bad review. I wanted to kindly pay for the night I stayed (however unsatisfying) and check out one night early from my 2 night stay. The front desk staff could not accommodate me and the person with the ability to do so was "not in station." I paid for 2 nights. I stayed for one noisy night. I don't like writing bad reviews. The hotel team I thought would have been able to accommodate me. I was wrong.

Well when I made the reservation it was for a king and when we got there they had no king available.they offered double queen.had no choice but to take it.needless to say me and my hubby didn't sleep in same bed but one night cause I need room lol and the breakfast.. if you like 2 types of cereal and bananas your in luck....

Seems to be runner down. We had to switch rooms due to the poor maintenance. New room floor was dirty and window opened. Was the room really cleaned. We don’t plan on stay there anymore due to the recent reoccurrence issues.

Well located lot of dining options around. The only thing i didn't like was it kinda of smelled like cigarettes and smoke. It was in the whole place. Not so much the room but thru out the motel.

Breakfast was cereal only(raisin bran, fruitloops and instant oatmeal) coffee and apple juice. Disappointed! Room and beds were nice, bathroom needed a little an attention for age and cleanliness. The refrigerator was noisy.

Nothing It’s seedy old shabby looked and felt like an old motel

The lights didn’t work on the room when u first walked in . Plus they couldn’t give me a refund on the room when I only needed it for one night .

The room was not ready when we got there for early check-in, even though we called ahead. The room was not clean and conditions were very worn. Worst of all, the heater in the room made a terrible knocking noise all night. The staff was nice and it was great to be able to bring our dog at only $20.

The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful! SO convenient to multiple shopping locations, easy access to the highways to go into the city and clean

Only issue was the room was next to an outside entrance to the hotel. So, at 5:30 AM, the cadre of workers with service trucks started leaving and the door would bang each time...for about 20 minutes.

Morning coffee was great, breakfast was so so.

Check in smooth. Fridge not working in room but got fixed after a couple of requests. Basic facilities and breakfast was as basic as could be. A supermarket near by, also a couple of bar/restaurants. 20 minute walk to the main area of town and the local train service to downtown Chicago (Metra). OK for the price

Says breakfast included and signs at facility say SuperStart breakfast which would lead you to believe it is a descent breakfast. Well it was just cereal and maybe a doughnut. When i book a room i factor in a breakfast into the price of the room to determine where i am going to stay. Very misleading.

The breakfast offerings were light. Two kinds of cereal, and bananas.

Service was good I made a reservation and they didn’t have a room available. They gave me a handicap room I should’ve paid a little more money to say somewhere else.

We actually did not stay. We walked in. Looked at our room. The shower wall had a large hole in it. The bed spread had a hole in it. The ceiling was messed up. The paint job looded unfinished. We asked for another room, while warning the staff that if it's not better, we'll ask for our money back. Went to the second room. It was not much better. Decide that we did not want to pay for 5 nights of this and so, asked for our money back and had a very nice stay at another hotel.

Windham takes these properties that are old and gets their name on them but they're really taking their name down.

What I did not like. It was a very cold, clear, beautiful night. Power went out for 3-4 hours and kids now have the FLU because of the loss of power/heat that night. NO consideration for my kids. NO partial compensation for the night of inconvenience . I expected more from the name of Wyndham. No back up generators. They had this was an at of GOD. If the building was struct by lightning that is act of good. Holiday Inn has generators.

We had a volleyball tournament in the are so only needed to sleep there but when we checked in the lobby smelled like weed. The room was dirty. The bathroom was dirty as well. Would not stay here again. Id pay more to stay somewhere else.

The property is old and worn. The walls in the bathroom were desperate for fresh paint. The bed was comfortable but the smoke detector blinked a bright light all night. The sheets smelled strongly of laundry detergent, almost like they had not been rinsed properly, making it difficult to sleep. The breakfast consisted of two types of cereal, bananas, and coffee.

There was mold growing in several areas in the room I was given. All over the bed skirt and desk chair.

We needed a place to sleep for the night and this hotel was close and reasonably priced. With that in mind, the hotel itself is OK. The room smelled musky and damp. I did not sleep well due to noise constantly in the hallway at night from other guests. All of the breakfast was mostly gone by 730am. I would most likely not stay here again unless I was in a pinch.

Towels had mold on them there was a hole in the bathroom wall that had started beind fixed but mold was growing on it. The floors were dirty and the furniture was ripped

It was terrible the beds were dirty the shower was moldy ear wigs all over the ac barley worked and they vacuuming the hall at 6:30 in the morning

I was told that the first floor was a non smoking floor and it totally wasn't. It seemed as if every room had a smell of smoke coming out of it as I passed to get to my room. All night long, whomever was above me was walking heavily and making chair noises until 3 am. I had a horrible night sleep. I did not return for the second night's stay because it was so bad.

I thought Illinois was a no smoking indoors, public placing. Tbey had smoking rooms here which i unknowingly booked. Had to switch rooms and ended up with a crappy small room. Window broke being "locked" shut with a stick. Pillows are about as thick as a klenex. No closet for hanging anything. The bathroom sink height was made for toddler. The paper thin walls and hearing every noise/creak made when the people upstairs move. Do not stay here. I paid way too much money for this room.

Worst stay in a hotel ever , from being greeted rudely, to having no locks on doors to the buildings . Blankets had multiole burn holes in them , towels were stained and dirty , couldnt stay here conditions were to unclean and poor

average budget hotel accommodations, but what made this day memorable was the friendly service at the front desk. The person checking us in was very welcoming, and that goes a long way.

This property has an odor of stale cigarettes in the lobby, and this wafts up to the rooms upstairs. Also, I can see where the property has attempted to update the property, yet these updates are poorly done, or worn out. This seems to be a common theme of the Super 8 brand, as I experienced similar in a town south of here as well.

They said we did not pay for the hotel and that they needed more money. I provided the receipt and they still said it’s not paid. We finally fought and they said ohhh now we see it’s paid as we had two rooms. They were obviously lying and wanted to scam us. Terrible customer service at this hotel.

The hotel was conveniently located to all my activities in Crystal Lake. The staff were nice and helpful throughout my stay. The downside for me, there was no conditioner provided since they have a 2 in one shampoo (people with long hair need conditioner) and the towels were rough feeling.

When I asked the desk attendent to help with my suitcase up the stairs.... he moved my room downstairs. There was hair in my bathtub, sink, mold around the toilet and faucet. The attendent did not meet/greet me when I walked in.

I would stay again. Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. I did not use the coffee maker as the water holder probably has a collection of minerals(?) from the water. Heard neighbors and hallway noise only a couple times during my one one stay. Room rate good for a senior or anyone on limited funds.

This hotel was chosen for one night because the Holiday Inn was booked. This was fairly expensive for what you get . The room was decent but I won't be back.

My wife wasn’t able to shower either or try to was hair in the sink since there was only 1 shampoo packet. There was 3 bars of soap but if the shower wasn’t working I imagine I’m not the only one who couldn’t shower. I will let the staff know when I check out. I hope I will get something if a rebate but I’m not counting on it.

Staff when check in was nice but later could never find her only some guy that stays there alot answered my questions. No wifi , strange man drinking and taking to him self watching us all as we walked in side door. Smoked weed outside side door. Bathroom sealing was dark in corner over shower but paint white to try hide it. Beds wear hard. Guy next door and across hall kept going in and out doors all night then at 4:30 am ppl above us got up amd stomped back and forth across their floor amd sound like coming down on us. I was so over it by the next day after breakfast but because after check out time we was still chargered for room even tho we left and drove 5 hours to just go home it was so horrible.....never again !!!!

I actually did not stay at the property. My husband accidentally reserved for the wrong day and time. Upon arriving at the motel the worker was not friendly, he kept saying we didn’t have a reservation and when we realized it was the wrong time and date he didn’t even try to help. He just said we had to contact the 3rd party we reserved through. We asked if we could check in earlier and he kept saying they had no rooms available when we clearly saw rooms that were not being occupied. When we tried to cancel the reservation through Expedia we were informed we could cancel but we wouldn’t be getting a refund. It’s a shame that you all are comfortable with keeping people’s money! I will never use Expedia again for any reservation!!

The big flat screen TV didn't work so they moved me to another room. The new rooms tb was half the size of the first one, but it worked. I got a room with a single bed so I would have a comfortable chair to sit on. The chair in the new room was dirty, ripped and falling apart. I was on the 2nd floor yet, there was a big cricket in residence. Parking by the front door was full, parked around back to find the back door broken. Since anyone could walk through this door from the outside I did not feel safe staying there. The overall look of the place is worn down and in need of updating. The cosmetics of a hotel can be overlooked as long as it's clean and safe. This place was neither. I would never recommend this place or stay there again.

Some smoke smell

Had room next to lobby and ice machine. TV in lobby area was on most of the night. Pretty loud as was the ice machine. Poor room insulation.

Is in great need. Staff was great. Location very good. Security not good. Anyone could come in the back door. There is a security pad by the door, but not working.

Regarding Super 8 Crystal Lake, IL reservation # 72619447774292 on 7/29/23 Nowadays reservations are made through companies like EXPEDIA, so it is not on the motel when theres an issue. They could care a less! We stay in motels frequently for pleasure and this was by far the WORST MATTRESS WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. We didn't choose the $66 motel, rather at $133 per night one would expect a good bed. We want to be refunded our $133 immediately.

Three towels had grease spots on them. The interior hasn't been updated in years. The first morning there was a very loud fight with a lady sobbing in the hallway. Two mornings later there were two police officers in the lobby talking to two young fellows. The receptionist never spoke to me to even say hi when passing by.

Difficulty checking in because “computer was down. No attempt by receptionist to resolve issue even after waiting 45 min. Finally called her manager and through simple troubleshooting realized the computer had gotten unplugged. REALLY!!!

The condition of the hotel was rundown. It had seen better days, Our room was dirty. The breakfast options were very limited; not whatthey used to be.

The bed needed to be replaced. The mattress was sunken in the middle.

Waited 10 min for someone to check me in. The room was dark and smelled like wet dog. I know they allow pets but that should be in certain rooms not all of them. Bed was terrible. They need to invest in some new mattresses. You can tell they don't clean very well. Lots of dirt in the corners and the mirror had water splashes on it. The blankets had big holes in them. I understand I was in a smoking room but at the same time blankets with big holes should be replaced. Small hole no big deal but these were almost the size of my hand.

Cigarette smell, awful “breakfast buffet”, our mattress was so worn out there was a valley in the middle. My wife and I kept sliding into each other. Soda machine is broken. Shower head is terrible. Boxes of flooring piled in the lobby. Embarrassed to have stayed there.

Generally a distressed property. No locks on outside doors away from front desk to prevent unauthorized entry. The hallways have dirty stained carpet, poor paint repairs and reek of cigarette smoke.The odor permeated the room. The breakfast selections were poor: cereal or a small prepackaged muffin. Bathroom light was on some sort of sensor and magically turns itself on in the middle of the night. Has to be the worst Super 8 I have stayed at. Had 2 nite stay booked, left after 1.

Very unsafe!! Outside doors are not locked anyone can just walk right in…and seemingly did! Very loud residents (?) upstairs, much cigarette smoke throughout all hallways along with loud partying. The actual room had holes in the walls that had never been patched or painted. The bed was old worn and very uncomfortable.
