The El Rancho Motel is a quaint and cozy establishment with a convenient location, offering clean and comfortable rooms. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and easy check-in process, but some have experienced issues with parking and noise from the street.

Everything was perfect! We absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience were amazing. We can’t wait to come back!
- 5/5
Excellent option for staying on the beautiful Coronado Island.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay. Very clean only problem we had was we couldn’t get the TV to work. They were helpful with suggestions, but we never were able to figure it out. Overall a very nice place to stay
- 2/5
Room was dirty upon arrival. The floors and the shower were noticeably not cleaned. Cheapest place to stay in Coronado
- 3/5
Parking
- 5/5
Really great boutique motel. Check in details were tricky because “we used Expedia” (we didn’t) that seems like something they should figure out considering how many people book with third party booking sites. Also both AC united had absolutely filthy filters and flashing filter lights on. I cleaned them both but only one AC unit actually worked. It never ceases to amaze how hotels can’t keep up with AC maintenance. Also, “free self parking” was a joke, only 6 parking spots for like 12 or so rooms. We never once saw an open parking spots. Besides those details the room was perfect and the location was amazing.
- 5/5
There is parking available and the staff was helpful with check in and check out. The facility is basic but clean and well maintained and is a good value for the money in this area.
- 5/5
Very cute. Perfect central location.
- 5/5
This is my second time booking a room al El Rancho M . Is very close to restaurants and the beach area, I would recommend it to anyone.
- 5/5
Everything was good very beautiful I would totally go back just AC would work it was hot in the room at night. AC would turn on and off throughout the day.
- 5/5
Clean room, hot shower, cold a/c, nice staff, quiet and great location.
- 5/5
Was easy check on, appreciated the glass coffee cup!
- 4/5
There are two parking slots at the front (flight of steps up to the entrance) and four in the alley at the back with level access, accessed from Fourth Street. There are comfortable patios with chairs and tables front and rear. Excellent breakfasts may be taken at the Crown Inn one block west. The most curious feature of the motel is this: We stayed four nights without ever encountering a member of staff. On arrival the office was locked and there was a notice with a phone number. I called it and spoke with a very pleasant gentleman named Fred who processed my payment and texted me a code for the office door so that I could obtain my room key. There are plenty of spare supplies in the office such as paper cups, coffee pods, toilet tissue etc., guests just help themselves. Our room was efficiently and thoroughly serviced each day while we were out but we never saw who did it. On checkout we simply dropped the key into a lock box.
- 3/5
I never met any staff during my stay at the motel. All communication was by text messages. Coffee maker didn’t work on my room. Bed was comfortable.
- 5/5
Such a cute little place so convenient . Def would go back
- 5/5
Room was clean and cute. Great location walking distance to everything.
- 5/5
Great location and great value.
- 5/5
Everything was great. Easy parking close walking distance to all shops and restaurants
- 2/5
No one in office - provided a number to call - often no response after calling to get help with internet issues, TV did not work for two days. Four requests for receipt and still no receipt received through Expedia or the motel - look at ceilings - full of cobwebs - will not stay again.
- 4/5
Good location, clean rooms,
- 5/5
Very Clean and Cozy. Great location!
- 5/5
Very clean..loved the location
- 5/5
Yes, everything was to my satisfaction
- 4/5
The bed near the door covered one of the few electrical outlets. If you move the bed forward an inch, you can’t open the door! The courtyard is charming. We would stay there again—maybe in a different room.
- 5/5
Was a lovely place to stay. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. It is a great centrally located place walking distance from shops and the beach.
- 5/5
Our stay was in March. There are six parking spaces specifically for El Rancho Motel, plus space in front of the motel that can be used for overnight parking. We never had a problem using the handicapped parking space behind the motel.
- 3/5
Also, the AC unit was under the bathroom sink. so you are cold after a shower.
- 3/5
Fine place, but it’s by the main street and the noise made it hard to sleep. Also the shutters on the windows don’t block out enough of the lights at night.
- 5/5
Property is clean, within walking distance of food and shops. Great place !!
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
Great location.
- 5/5
The stay here was great! It was simple, cute, and had everything you need even in a smaller single room. Fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with pods! Such a simple and great stay. Super comfortable beds as well!
- 5/5
Clean quite place
- 5/5
Great room super cute. The staff was super kind and helpful. Amazing place overall! Would easily recommend.
- 3/5
Very cute little motel, mostly clean and comfortable. A bit of a "you get what you pay for" experience. Downsides: Rooms could use a deep cleaning for dust and cobwebs in a few places, and there was some dried food detritus on one bedside table. Traffic noise was a bit of an issue as it's off a busy street and walls are kinda thin. The biggest issue was plumbing. Our toilet clogged (we didn't put anything in it except tp) and we both plungers we found to try to unclog it were broken. Samuel happened to be onsite and was very helpful in getting us a new plunger. But later that night we had trouble getting the shower to turn on, and when we finally got it on, it took a while to heat up, and then suddenly turned scalding, at which point we could neither adjust the temperature or turn it off. Luckily there was another room available but having to step out of the shower mid-shampoo, throw on a skimpy towel, and walk outside to another room to continue my shower was not very pleasant.
- 5/5
Rooms are clean, staff is wonderful and helpful and the rooms are clean. Would stay again!
- 5/5
Many restaurants and cafes nearby.
- 4/5
It was a great place to stay. Just small things like there was no ice readable available and the carpet the rug was over was kind of gross but it was a cute place. Had a refrigerator and my microwave and that's a plus and counter space.
- 5/5
The owner is very accommodating and will make sure your room is equipped and ready for your stay. I’d stay here every visit to the island.
- 5/5
Really good experience
- 5/5
Lovely, eventlless stay. Simple check-in and check out and the staff is very kind.
- 5/5
Good comfortable room
- 5/5
Never saw staff , was not. Big deal , only issue which is minor the hot water once we got it was to hot . For price I have no complaints we enjoyed the atmosphere and met some nice people , had party people until apx 11:30 out on common area almost confronted but ended , I would go there again .
- 5/5
Favorite place while visiting Coronado
- 5/5
Very easy to work with. The room was clean & a gret price
- 5/5
Easiest hotel stay I’ve probably ever had.
- 5/5
Communication from Kathy is very detail and prompt. Thanks
- 5/5
Could use a little bit of dusting. But overall was a satisfactory stay.
- 5/5
Clean Room, amenities were very sufficient - you couldn’t ask for much else!!!
- 5/5
Great place, clean and quiet. Close to everything reasonable price. Would recommend.
- 3/5
Very automated self service. I was able to enter and leave easily.
- 3/5
The room was ok. Cheap finishes.
- 5/5
Everything was beyond my expectation! Lovely venue, I like how small and quaint it is! The email/text check-in method worked seamlessly, ... though it's odd I never saw an El Rancho employee?
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
Great quaint little hotel! Easy check in, very clean room, walking distance to shops and restaurants, and free parking which is unheard of on Coronado Island.
- 1/5
There are no services available.
- 5/5
Clean, centrally located, super cute cottage feel
- 5/5
The staff was very courteous.
- 5/5
Clean and convenient locations
- 5/5
Adorable place in a great location!
- 5/5
Room was clean and peaceful. Grateful to be allowed early check in to rest. Will be back many times.
- 5/5
The room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable! The staff was so helpful and it was one of the best stays I've ever had - what a hidden gem in Coronado for a great price and a very comfortable stay! The beds and bedding were 4 to 5 star hotel quality! Looks like the rooms and bathrooms have been recently renovated - like new!
- 4/5
Room was clean, parking was always available. I loved how there was a lot to do in walking distance and the beach was not that far away so it was great! My family loved it!
- 4/5
Great for the price! However, I’d recommend bringing your own shampoo/conditioners and even towels.
- 4/5
This location can’t be beat. It’s like summer camp in the city with a fun porch in front to watch people and tables in back to eat outside if you’d like. The beds are comfy, and the accommodations are quaint. We made use of the beach chairs in an easy jaunt to the bay.
- 5/5
A perfectly easy check in. Clean room. Affordable rates!!
- 5/5
the room was very, very nice! I could not ask for more. I will stay there again anytime!
- 4/5
All good.
- 5/5
Parking was onsite. Several restaurants and bars nearby.
- 5/5
It was a very unique room but definitely worked out great for the 4 of us. Room was clean, and they had extra blanket and a room heater. Plenty of parking space
- 3/5
Wasn't the cleanest room I've seen
- 5/5
Great stay for the parade and Christmas Tree lighting.
- 4/5
parking was good, tub drain and shower handle were broken
- 3/5
Room was ok but the toilet was clogged. They assisted in changing the room. But it was not a nice experience and the property seems need serious maintenances.
- 5/5
The room was nice and cozy. It was also within walking distance of the Hotel Del Coronado. We would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff was ultra courteous.
- 5/5
Nice room.
- 3/5
Nice place to stay comfy
- 5/5
Room was nice, customer service was nice, ambiance was nice, all an all it was nice
- 4/5
Limited parking. Didn't know check in procedure before arriving. No person. No answer to phone but did respond quick to text giving us check in instructions. Cute place. Clean. Walked to shopping. Would like more choices in case the parking was taken. Loved no extra parking fees! Would stay again!
- 3/5
Parking was easy. Close to shops. Room was extremely small. Not worth the price. Old and poor ventilation.
- 5/5
I felt very safe in the area.
- 5/5
Very safe area as well as clean. walkable to bay, easy walk to beach although somewhat long.
- 5/5
Awesome area (:
- 5/5
Gorgeous area within walking distance of downtown and easy driving distance to downtown San Diego or the beaches of Coronado. Nearby restaurants, grocery stores, park. Nice room with characterful retro appliances. Manager very kind and responsive.
- 5/5
This place was so cute, like a little Barbie house. We will def book again.
- 4/5
The only downgrade is the shower was slippery and the water pressure was soso
- 4/5
Reasonably priced option in Coronado. Easy walk to restaurants and beaches. Self serve check-in. Housekeeping was hit and miss, but overall it met our needs.
- 2/5
One of poorest accommodations we hav ever stayed at
- 3/5
Parking is scarce
- 4/5
Nice location. Could walk restaurants. Small bathroom area yet fine. Need Kleenex. Thank you, nice stay.
- 3/5
Coffee & small fridge in room. Carpets need replacing and bathroom needs upgrades.
- 5/5
We loved the stay we will be returning
- 4/5
Location and cleanliness excellent m, but no staff around. Area beautiful
- 5/5
Safe and clean
- 5/5
Great hotel within
- 5/5
Na
- 5/5
The amenities are cute, the coffee was nice, and the property is quaint
- 3/5
Waited more than an hour past our check in time. Bed was adequate at best. Carpeting was overdue for a cleaning or replacement.
- 5/5
Great place. looking forward to return.
- 4/5
Truly charming! Great for walking to everything
- 4/5
Great location and great customer service.
- 5/5
Great experience. Great price for a fabulous location and lovely room. It was a small room- they made that clear from the listing. But it was cozy and comfortable and I would definitely return!
- 4/5
Easy access to anywhere on Coronado, and right on the public bus line with easy access to sites to see in San Diego.
- 5/5
We used our e-bikes to get around the island and were able to go everywhere without using our vehicle. (Including beach) Perfect place to stay abd have a lil $ left to have some fun! Brigantine has the best taco Tuesday with swordfish tacos!!! And Poehes has a great happy hour overlooking the bay at San Diego. Enjoy😎
- 5/5
So close to the beach and amazing restaurants and shops. Property is super clean and service was fantastic. Finding parking was a bit of an issue but well worth it.
- 5/5
Cute place with proximity in Coronado for quick overnight stay before flying out.
- 5/5
Fred and the staff are amazing. We stay at least twice a year for a week or so each time. Everytime we come we are treated like family. Fred was so kind to check in with us before we arrived and ensure we were all taken care of upon arrival. Additionally, we were able to receive an Amazon delivery for our 2 month old's formula. El Rancho is very small and cozy, you become a local everytime you stay there. While the hotel does not have the bells and whistles of the larger chains, it is affordable, safe, and close to everything. We always feel like we are staying at our own apartment right on Coronado Island. We always love our vacations to Coronado and only stay at El Rancho. Thank you Fred, Kathy, and everyone that works so hard to make us feel special.
- 5/5
Great value for the location and proximity to so many different options for food and the beach. Loved our stay and we will be back again!
- 5/5
Excellent experience
- 3/5
Nice place if you want to do a a 2 day getaway.
- 4/5
There are a couple of things to note for future travelers. 1. Our room was very small. With 2 queen beds and a room under 200sf, it is not ideal for 4 people. It was my fault for not looking at that detail. But definitely check the room SF to make sure it works for your party size. If there were only 2 of us, it would've been just fine! 2. There are lights right outside every window and there are no curtains, just shutters. That meant at 4am, it looked like it was 7am outside. If you like it dark when you sleep, you'd better bring window coverings because lots of light comes in! I would stay there again in a larger room, with some sleep masks for the family!
- 5/5
It is posted in multiple places that quiet time is from 9:00pm to 9:00am. At 6:45am someone had a leaf blower going! It only occurred one morning. Otherwise, awesome stay.
- 5/5
Adorable room. Easy to check in and check out. Very convenient. Will stay again
- 5/5
Amazing weather, easy Ubers to petco, amazing coffee within walking distance!
- 5/5
Lovely property, comfortable rooms, and very accommodating and friendly staff!
- 5/5
Phenomenal. Responsive and helpful staff, great accommodations, comfortable and beautiful. Great location. Would recommend to everyone!
- 5/5
Cute
- 5/5
Exceed
- 5/5
Cozy rooms. Within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Wish the WiFi was stronger but otherwise a great place to stay.
- 5/5
Nice place to rest
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 4/5
Overall shows the owner does care about upkeeping of the property. But needs a new toilet.
- 4/5
Price and cleanliness excellent; no human service but very efficient check in, if you had directions and explanations on i phone or text. Code to open lobby door, and key very visable, so easy to locate room, as only 10. Charming motel with outside seating but no amenities inside. Check out easy, but again, no human contact. One overnight was adequate for convenience and price.
- 5/5
It was lovely. It would have been more helpful to have information about the logistics of the property, i.e. on staff on site etc. however, it did not overly impact our stay in any way. We would certainly stay again. Rooms are small, best for 1-2 people.
- 4/5
Motel is very clean and cozy. Staff was very helpful
- 5/5
Quiet, clean, easy access, very affordable.
- 5/5
Very easy to check in and nice neighborhood
- 4/5
Room was clean and comfortable. Self check in and check out was smooth. I presume there are staff someehere but I never met any!
- 5/5
Clean comfortable room. Convenient location and reasonable price.
- 5/5
very cozy
- 5/5
A perfect place to stay, with zen Buddhas and flamingos, loved it!
- 5/5
A very clean room.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Microwave caffee machine and fridge convenience.
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
Our room was tiny, but patios are very nice.
- 3/5
The outside of the room was nice and clean and walkway was easy to maneuver for our blind daughter.
- 3/5
The stay was fine. The pillows are not great. The shower had no pressure and took a long time to get hot water. The maid came one day but left a dirty coffee cup. I probably would not stay there again but if you are looking to stay on Coronado Island its affordable.
- 5/5
Awesome place will definitely stay here again! Thank you!
- 5/5
Clean comfortable room on Coronado Island. Kinda small in size but great for us while we were in town.
- 4/5
A Clean, reasonably priced small but comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
No issues with parking - did one night of street parking and one night in one of their spots.
- 5/5
Wonderful Location
- 4/5
If you need very little out of your motel, this is the space to stay. Much better accommodation compared to people I was working with. I was able to do my work, eat meals and sleep comfortably with little worry. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Great stay, super easy.
- 5/5
A great little place to stay for a couple of nights. The only thing missing was a USB outlet to charge my phone. Other than that, everything was as advertised.
- 5/5
Would stay here again in the future if I ever return to San Diego.
- 4/5
The staff was accessible but out of the way and went out of their way to ensure a smooth check-in, the rooms and motel is very personal. Having a old cottage feel but still updated Will definitely stay again if in the area
- 2/5
We didn’t see staffs at all. The room was not clean, our pillowcases were dirty with something like a make up foundations.
- 2/5
Overall property felt like a Motel-6 like accomodations. The room was extremely narrow and small unlike what is protrayed in the website photos. Very disappointed in the stay. Going to post this dissatisfaction on Yelp and Google.
- 4/5
Location was great for my trip. The staff was excellent, very helpful and nice. My room lacked amenities that would have been nice such as a plastic cups and the shower did not have any place to sit your soap or shampoo. Overall, it was fine and I would stay there again.
- 5/5
Such an adorable gem that is quaint and affordable! We loved it!
- 5/5
Great little motel. Very clean. Everything you need. Located on Orange Ave in the middle of Coronado Island.
- 4/5
Staff was great. Room was a good size for me. Furnishing were a bit old. Room had a smell, windows did not open.
- 2/5
Post check out, I was billed $82 for "missing" pillow and blanket. I used the cell phone number to text the property and after threatening to dispute the transaction on my credit card, a credit was issued. The carpet was really dirty in the room. I have previously stayed at this hotel and am sad to see how it has declined in management.
- 5/5
This may very well be my favorite motel ever. The staff is top notch, extremely helpful, facilities are clean, and its an absolutely wonderful location.
- 4/5
El Rancho Motel is great for a couple or small family wanting to stay on Coronado and enjoy the island and the beach. Their rooms are clean, and while very small, offer enough space to relax. This motel is safe, clean, affordable, beautiful landscaping and nice patios. With a central location, biking the island is easy. You can even bike to downtown Coronado, which is only a 5 minute bike ride. From there you can go to the shops, or walk onto the ferry with your bike and cross over to downtown San Diego. You may also bike ride to the beach, or one of many amazing dinning spots for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The Rancho Motel is not a luxury stay, but for the price, it is perfect for safety, closeness, and a good night's rest.
- 5/5
Places really cool parking not so great. There’s only five spots.
- 5/5
It was perfect for what we needed. Clean, easy check in. Right in the middle of everywhere we needed to be. Bed was super comfortable.
- 5/5
We are grateful for caring service that made our stay very enjoyable.
- 4/5
Overall, it was OK, but we had no WiFi signal and there was a lot of noise from the street.
- 5/5
The room is quaint. Large restroom, nice bed, amenities great! Beautiful setting on property…felt better than home!
- 4/5
Con: Room 11 bed was uncomfortable. The shower drained painfully slow. Walls were thin; I could hear a person’s phone conversation next door through the wall - at 6:30 a.m.! Also, finding a place to park is challenging if the motel’s five spots are taken.
- 5/5
For all the motels at this end of Orange Ave it is the best. Quaint courtyard and lots outdoor seating. If you are a walker or rent bikes the 1.2 miles to the main Coronado beach area is a breeze. It’s a motel and you get all you can expect with some quirky charm included. Staff incredibly friendly and accommodating. Beds comfy. It’s an older property like most nearby but maintained and clean. Second stay and we will be back.
- 5/5
I love this cute little place. So convenient on the main drag with very helpful staff on cleaning and check-in/out. You have to find parking if you don’t get one of the two spots out front but there’s a few in the back which I’d recommend if you don’t want struggle with pulling out into the traffic. Overall, cute decor (love the flamingos!) and a bright cheery vibe. Will return!
- 5/5
short walk to business district.
- 5/5
Was on a weekend trip to visit family and this place was perfect, had a key west vibe . Cute , comfortable and the customer service was great. Recommend and I would stay there again!
- 5/5
Super cute property! Easy check in! Perfect location and close to the beach. We always had a place to park too. Only thing I would have liked would have been an ice machine. There was one in the lobby but not sure it worked. The water kept running. The ice wasn’t already made. Other than that, it was a nice stay!
- 3/5
I've been there yearly for a conference in Coronado, I just need a place to stay 2 nights. Cute little rooms, no frills. It is very conveniently located on Orange blvd. Not as cheap as it used to be, I understand times have changed, but they missed cleaning the first day, so a little disappointing.
- 5/5
El Rancho Motel is a very quaint and quiet place and very well kept. The check in process was easy and I would go back again! ;-)
- 5/5
El Rancho Motel is a very clean and cozy place and I will book again for all of my trips to Coronado. Management goes the extra mile for their guests, it is indeed outstanding!
- 5/5
Love the El Rancho for its Simplicity ..Very comfortable..staff always helpful.Beautiful area..
- 5/5
This was such a cute boutique motel in a great area and staff was very friendly and kind. Everything was clearly clean and remodeled with love. Only downside was the tiny space heater that took a while to heat up the space at night, but eventually it would kick in.
- 4/5
This property was adorable. From the outside to the inside it was very thought through. Parking can be difficult though and our room was tiny. Everything else was fantastic. Will visit again.
- 5/5
El Rancho was a pleasant surprise! Cheapest hotel on the island but did not disappoint by any means. Extremely clean, super cute room and property was beautifully decorated! We loved the front communal patio. I was nervous to book but so glad I did and will 100% always come back to el rancho. The day of check in we received a text 4 hours early from owner that we are able to do early check in. The process was super simple!! Parking was a breeze as well. Super kind people although we did not meet face to face, owners are very accommodating.
- 5/5
Nice , clean place to stay! Thank you !
- 4/5
We had a hard time checking in. No one was at the office. We finally got ahold of an employee and they said I should have received a text with check in I formation. We never received it.
- 4/5
Not really a motel since there is very little parking. Motel advertises that it offers housekeeping but one day the bed wasn’t made even though it was evident that housekeepers had been in the room.
- 5/5
El Rancho was great, I've already recommended it to others less than a week after returning. Very clean, comfortable bed, easy check in and check out. 15 minute easy walk to Hotel Del. The only improvement would be if there were a mirror of some kind outside of the bathroom, so that two people could get ready at the same time.
- 5/5
The perfect little place. It was myself and 2 kids (teens) and it was just what we needed. Check in and check out was very easy and so convenient. They also had a water cooler which was really helpful to fill up our water bottles before hitting the beach or the road. Everything worked and we were very comfortable. Kathy was great with recommendations and even helping us when we had to go back because we left something in the room.
- 4/5
Darling place to stay and I was able to walk to my sons house, which was very convenient! Beds were comfortable and I felt safe.
- 4/5
Very cozy, clean place. In a convenient location.
- 5/5
The place was quaint. About 4 blocks from the ocean
- 4/5
Very cute and well maintained place despite being an older hotel. Comfortable outdoor areas to hang out in. Rooms aren’t big but use of space is great. The only odd thing I found was that housekeeping gave fresh towels and took out garbage but didn’t make beds. Not a big deal just a bit different. Overall a charming place with a gr at location in a beautiful place.
