Hyatt Place Columbia/Downtown/The Vista

I booked this room for someone and received great feedback.

The room got dark. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was not refilled in a timely manner. There were not enough washcloths. Room had not been properly cleaned. Old dirty sheets were on the pull out sofa. No microwave in the room.

There is a mandatory $20 parking fee - not an issue, but the parking situation is awful. We paid the fee, but there was no attendant to give us the card for the garage. The person at the desk told us not to worry about it, just give them our room number and they’d mark us down for when we came back later that day after checking in. When we got back, there were no available parking spaces and we couldn’t get into the overflow garage because we didn’t have the ticket from the valet/parking attendant being absent earlier in the day. I waited in the car behind a couple other of vehicles for valet to come and get us situated. After several minutes with no movement, I went inside to the front desk and told them about the situation. They said valet had stepped out and they didn’t know when they’d be back. I explained that I was stuck with my three toddlers in the car and could t park because they hadn’t given me a ticket when I paid earlier. At this point there was a line of 7-8 cars behind me with no one able to park or get into their room because of the situation. The one staff member at the front desk was clearly overwhelmed and unable to help us. Valet finally showed up and we were able to get parked around 45 minutes after getting there, which is an eternity with young kids in tow. Overall, the hotel was great, but the parking situation truly spoiled the stay.

This hotel is in downtown Columbia. Hotel was somewhat dated in comparison to other locations in other states. Staff was extremely friendly and readily available for all questions.

Everything was really good, except the swimming pool. It had a lot of “stuff” floating all over the top.

Great location for good dining in area. No restaurant on site. No room service. Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. Had to ask for trash to be removed and to get clean towels. We were last room in their schedule and they rarely got to us. They charged me for valet parking every day. I self parked.

The Hyatt, downtown Columbia The Vista, is an amazing hotel. I checked in 2 hours earlier. My family came into town for a weekend getaway and we truly enjoyed the pool. The staff was great, my room was clean. My cousin did have a minor issue with her room, where housekeeping came and fixed. The parking is $20.00 per night on property, but there's plenty of parking right outside of the property on the street. From my understanding, it's free to park on the weekends. Monday is when the parking meter will need money. No tickets now.... I recommend this place. I'll definitely will be returning for my next stay in Columbia. And remember, restaurants are located in walking distance. Check out The Game Show challenge, it's literally 50 feet away from the hotel entrance.

The hotel was convenient. It was clean and appeared to have been updated recently. There was a bar and an indoor pool. Large shower in the bathroom and NO carpet in the room. Check in was a disaster. There were upwards of 50 people sitting around waiting to be able to check in, due to rooms not being ready. I get that the staff was stressed, but our desk clerk was close to rude and definitely unfriendly. We left for dinner and came back later to check in. After 3 hours we finally got checked in. The bed in our room was uncomfortable and the base made a horrible screech every time you moved. The typical hotel breakfast was included, but was lukewarm at best.

Arrived at 3:45pm to check in, but were told our room wasn't ready. Front desk indicated they were short-staffed and so had no idea when our room would be ready. We missed our dinner reservations. Finally, at 5:02pm we were given our room key. Thr room was cool and clean. The staff did the best they could with so many upset guests.

Due to short cleaning staff and some issues with a large number of guests leaving at the same time, rooms weren't ready at 3pm checking. The lobby and restaurant was full of people waiting for their rooms to be ready. Other than that, all was good. Within walking distance to Colonial Arena.

Finally, the worst part was that after a late night, the room's alarm clock started blaring at 6am and kept going off at odd intervals. When we met up with our other party, they said their alarm also went off at 6am! We were talking about it in the lobby for breakfast later and 2 more rooms of people overheard and said the same happened to them. No way was that just a coincidence. That coupled with the fact they couldn't get rooms ready for checking time makes me wonder if they're trying to get people up and out the door. Definitely fishy, and extremely rude.

I would give it five star but unfortunately there’s one thing that i disliked. everything about the hotel was nice, they even give a paper with all of the local restaurants and things to do in the area along with having a bar. the room was clean and accessible and very accommodating however my dislike is that the accessibility rooms are for some reason on the top floor and in the very back compared to the elevator. i was made aware of this though before arrival by the wonderful staff- i just don’t understand why the accessibility rooms are the furtherest walking distance in the hotel which can pose a problem to others with mobility issues (this includes being fully carpeted which would also be more difficult for wheelchair users)

Room was pretty clean. Train noise was a bit loud. Valet parking was inconvenient, took a while to get car back. Room was in a good location. Breakfast could use some improving.

This was the worst stay ever, my room was clean but the bed rubbed the bottom boards when getting in and out. The noice from the street was heard all through the night. The tv screen was dark and couldn’t lighten in he settings because there was not settings on the remote or tv

The staff was very nice and welcoming The lady that worked the kitchen on the morning of Tuesday the 31 of March was extremely pleasant and made breakfast a pleasure to eat, more hotels need a server like her who appears to love her job and the people she serves. Great customer service

The walls/floors are so thin. I heard all the guests going in and out of their rooms all night long as well as their conversations in the hallway. I heard the person’s alarm next door to our room go off in the morning.

The third year we have stayed here on our way down to Florida. Great hotel, great location!

Room was ok. Not all of the staff were friendly. While I understand the limitations of parking in that area, guests are required to pay an additional amount to park in a garage across of the street seemed excessive. Surely Hyatt could absorb this cost for guest.

The room really wasn’t cleaned at all and it was disappointing that the pool wasn’t open when that is one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. But other than that, everything was good. Unfortunately it seems like no hotel has truly clean rooms anymore. But not changing sheets and thoroughly cleaning bathroom is unsanitary and unacceptable.

Walls/doors so thin we could hear the conversation clearly of cpl next to us AND their multi sex sessions. Had to download a box fan app to try to drown some of it out. Didn’t get much sleep. Amenities. The coffee was only decaf, didn’t like the glass bathroom door and our view wasn’t very good and didn’t like being charged $20.00 to park my vehicle after paying for a room I think parking should be free.

Nice property close to downtown The staff on reception had terrible attitudes. No greeting. I stayed to speak and they cut me off and Trudeau asked for my name, said the room wasn’t ready which was fine as we were an hour early. When I said I’d be back to check in at 3pm which is their published check-in time, they rudely told me I could come at 3:15. I reiterated that I’d be back at 3 and waited in the lobby. They proceeded to talk loudly and negatively about me while I was within earshot, and also with my young daughter. The rude receptionist then barked out my last name from across the room, and checked us in. Of course, we arrived to a room right by the elevators and the ice machine. These ladies were rude, unprofessional and above all, petty. They were on shift at 2:00pm on Saturday 2/7/2026 and left a horrible impression. The rest of the staff were fine, just these two who like to be rude to guest. Would t stay at a Hyatt again because of them.

The hotel itself was nice. I didn’t like all the homeless people loitering outside and asking for money. The hotel was also very, very loud. None of us slept well cause there was so much outside street noise that you could hear.

It was fine . Well I didn't much care for losing my wallet, but that wasn't your fault. Because of that we missed the Gamecocks game.

Room seem poorly cleaned. No trash bags no toilet paper, no towels. My 2 year old daughter found a vape on the floor, we let front desk know and no one called us like we requested.

Change bathroom door for more privacy. Sliding glass door is strange. Why not just hang a bedsheet if you’re trying to cut costs? Put microwave in rooms. We had to carry our food down to the lobby and use the communal microwave. Pretty sad. Provide better towels in bathroom. Present towels are ones like you find at a gym, if that. More attention to 24-7 coffee tea service. Overall, just a poor effort compared to years past. Will probably skip this place on next visit to Columbia.

The front staff was mediocre at best but one young lady needs to take training so she knows that guests should ALWAYS come first, even when on the phone with your GM. The valet stops at 11 pm but is not advertised that way nor did staff communicate that until I pulled up after 11pm, only to be told I would need to park my own car. The lot was full so we had to find parking on the street. Do yourself a favor and pick a different hotel.

We reserved a king suite on Expedia . We ended up in a handicap suite for some reason. The shower water goes all over the bathroom which is little annoying .Suggest a long drain by the shower vs a circle drain by the toilet .

Our room was well past its expiration date. The room overlooked hvac units that were loud enough to disturb sleep and had not been updated. Toilet had not been updated and was a safety hazard with its short height. This room was extremely disappointed. I wonder if Expedia sells the worn out nasty rooms.

The hotel was very difficult to find. Its downtown Columbia and the name of the hotel is not very visible. However when we finally got there, the parking, the staff and the hotel was perfect.

I can't describe the amazing feeling of stain at the hotel this weekend. Miss Maya as well as another staff member greeted us with a warm feeling of care and made for a great stay. Thank you for the amazing experience.

Never use Expedia booking a room due to price gouging. Jeremy was excellent providing dining information and extremely helpful. No plates or flatware in the suites. Breakfast manager was gracious and happy to meet you each morning.

The stay was grreat, but the night life was awful, it started at 9pm wiht loud racing motors and did not stopm until after midnight.

There were bed bugs in the room. It was 1130pm so we had no choice but to switch rooms in the hotel. The next day we’re got a full refund through Travelocity who handled the situation quickly and courteously. The property manager was rude and unprofessional; The night manager did her best to help us out with a different room. Thank you Travelocity for standing by your word!

We were there for 4 nights, room service never cleared our room, we had to go run down someone to get towels and was charged 77.76 for parking and we never parked there. I called several times spoke with thomas, he said he would take care of it, I left messages for the manager and never to date received a return call

We were there for 4 nights, room service never cleared our room, we had to go run down someone to get towels and was charged 77.76 for parking and we never parked there. I called several times spoke with thomas, he said he would take care of it, I left messages for the manager and never to date received a return call

Great staff added a day before our stay and it was not an issue. Only problem was they weren’t sure about the Expedia reservation and it caused some confusion on back end. Other than that no issues and a great place to visit

We were going to give the hotel 2 stars, but I’m giving it a 3 due to the friendliness and professionalism of the hotel staff, minus the maintenance people. We stayed 3 nights and the first night we had tv issues, which the tv was programmed to another room so we couldn’t watch what we wanted, only what that room was watching. The bathroom lock was broken, and the sink drain was clogged. We had bought this up with the staff on the very first day, said they put in a work order, and we were basically gone all day the first 2 days of our stay and they STILL didn’t have any of it fixed. We checked out the hotel on the 3rd day and nothing was ever fixed at all. Oh, and the fridge was barely cold, didn’t matter what temp you set it at, still wasn’t cooling. All in all, we will probably pick another hotel if we are ever in the area again.

First time here and enjoyed our stay. Dog friendly, very pleased. Definitely would stay here again. 7-8 min drive to the State Fair. A lot of restaurants around the area.

Great beeakfast

We had a nice stay here for the second time. It is right in the heart of the city and there is plenty of dining in walking distance. The two gentlemen at the desk and valet were very helpful and cordial. The complimentary breakfast is really perfect with healthy options.

Our stay was great. The parking garage was tricky but after the first night, we parked in the lot behind the hotel.

There was clearly not enough staff. There are we’re swimmers from a meet who were very good there was a lot of children. They ran out of towels and we had to wait for towels.

We enjoyed our stay for my son’s army graduation. My only complaint would be the conditions of the bathroom were not exceptional. We enjoyed the early breakfast and proximity to dining

Here are the cons: - There are 2 elevators for the building. One elevator was out during our entire stay. During busy times, I took the stairs a lot. One afternoon both elevators were out and everyone was walking up and down stairs. Although they got the elevator repaired, this seemed like a difficult situation for people who are not able-bodied. -Parking was terrible. We mostly had to valet while there. Sometimes this also took a while to get our car. -The shades on the windows do not block out all of the light. If you like a really dark room, this hotel is not for you. Curtains would be a much better option. -If you have multiple people in the room, the bathroom is frosted rolling door. If someone is sleeping, but another person needs a light on in the bathroom, it will illuminate the whole room. The bathroom door also does not offer much privacy. -Breakfast was lacking. I asked one of the employees if they had certain items and I was told that a truck did not come in time and they would have to buy from a local store. The next day it was apparent no one bothered to purchase the items. Overall, it was okay, but nothing great. Also, I would choose to stay somewhere else next time.

Loved the downtown location. I missed the fact parking located in the back to register was very confusing.

Good day everything was fine except for one elevator not working

The first room we were given had mold on the ceiling. The staff quickly gave us another room. The breakfast was not very appealing

This my second stay there and it's convient to USC to see my daughter. The staff are friendly and polite. I love staying here.

There was no microwave in the room. The towels were like sandpaper. The pool was out of use for the whole weekend.

Jeremy at the front desk was friendly and very helpful. The room 525 was very clean and cool on hot day. The oatmeal and fresh fruit was delicious for breakfast. Will stay here again.

Standard hotel. Directions bring you to the front side. But, parking andvthe entrance is on Lady Street in the back. My bathroom at home is cleaner. Housekeeping ran out of supplies to remove red shower growth. Nobody changed linens on second bed. Drape dropped off and bright light ended sleeping early in the morning.

Most definitely a frequent place I'm coming more often. Even the cooks go out of their way to make sure your well taken care of. The whole staff is amazing.

Breakfast was included and the selection of food was very nice. The room was comfortable and spacious. Please note you will be charged daily to park your car in their parking lot.

Our room was clean and well appointed. We had our dog with us and she was made very welcome. We enjoyed the proximity to the convention center where I was working and local restaurants staff. The staff were very friendly and I seem to enjoy working together at the Hyatt

It was ok this time. We have stayed here before and it was better. It wasn’t as clean this time around, shower was a bit dirty, and comforter needed a wash. Breakfast was just ok- front desk staff were great tho! Very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was very nice and breakfast was a good variety. I only felt that the beds were a bit hard, otherwise everything was perfect. I had a great stay and I will stay again.

We stayed here for a baseball series and it was perfect! The rooms were phenomenal, bed was comfortable, and the location is amazing. If we come back to Columbia, we will be staying here again.

Clean, spacious, and such kind people who helped make our stay wonderful.

We spent a day and night at the Hyatt as we were there for my husband’s military graduation, and everything was perfect! The children loved the fact that there was an indoor pool which they were able to enjoy that afternoon and the next morning at 9am. Check out is at noon which gave us enough time to do what we have to do instead of feeling hurried. They have a wonderful selection of breakfast options and they have a small market, bar and dining options in and out of the hotel. We had a great time!

The room was very dusty and all the amenities in the shower were empty. The alarm clock and charging station were loose in the outlet which caused it to frequently lose power.

As usual ..my reception, stay, and departure are so blissful at the Hyatt. The staff takes so pride in they're performance and it shows. My family and I have been vacationing here for years now. It was excellent! All staff were exceptional!

Horrible! We were told our room was ready by email. We showed up, they gave us a room key when we walked in someone else was in the room. We had to wait 20 mins for them to clean another room, which they rushed and was dirty. We have three small children with us, that were ready for naps. The pool was indoor which we thought would be nice, but there was other tournaments and cheer competitions in town and the cheer girls were completely out of control with no adult supervision ages 10-14, the hotel staff was not able to locate parents as there were many complaints from other guest besides us in hotel. There was water all over the lobby floor with no slip signs from the kids unsupervised running around wet from pool. The hallways were loud, we checked in at 2:30p and check out at 8:30p we had, had enough. We were already booked to stay there again 3/28 weekend but canceled that stay. There are other hotels, aloft across the way and Hilton. We will not return to this Hyatt again, very disappointed in this one.

Trash was left in the room from previous customers trash including cough drops and other medicine. Just hopeful that whatever they had I don't get because I doubt it was actually cleaned properly
