Had a birthday party for 12 women with 4 rooms reserved. They did a great job finding us the best deals, booking us as close as possible, and handling all our different arrival and departure schedules. Loved this stay and now am a fan of all soonesta properties.

Our biggest issue was the inconsistency of information from staff. Guest Services was often busy or went to voicemail, forcing us to visit the front desk, which always seemed overwhelmed. We requested early check-in and late checkout when booking. One employee told us to call a few hours before arrival to check availability, but when we did, another representative rudely said they wouldn’t know until we arrived. Fortunately, the front desk agent at check-in was friendly. We also received conflicting answers about ice machines. One employee told us every even-numbered floor had one, only for us to later learn our floor specifically did not. Another employee said ice could be delivered, but when we called for it, they told us it could not and incorrectly claimed our freezer made ice in a super condescending manner. We were told the night before departure that a decision couldn’t be made until the next morning because the house manager wasn’t there. The next day it was denied an hour before normal checkout. Overall, it’s a decent hotel, but not worth the price we paid.

Loved the location and the style of the hotel.

Perfect proximity to the Riverwalk and downtown Chicago. We left our bags with the front desk on the morning of check-in, as we got there around 11 am. No more than 30 minutes later, the lovely receptionist called me and offered a discounted early check-in with an upgraded room. We pounced on the offer and checked in without a hitch. Our room was spectacular, lots of room and wonderful amenities. The bathroom was spacious and modern. Our view out of our long window was right out to the river and skyscrapers. It was a definite wow factor for us. Thank you so much for the comfortable and unforgettable stay.

This is a lovely property in a great location. It's within walking distance of many things. Everyone was nice and welcoming upon our arrival and recommended some things to do and Places to eat. I really enjoyed my stay and would return.

I returned to the front desk and requested to speak with a supervisor. That's when I had the pleasure of meeting Satara. She was incredibly understanding, sympathetic, and genuinely cared about making my first Chicago experience a memorable one. After listening to my concerns, she went above and beyond by offering me a one-bedroom suite on the 26th floor. The upgrade completely transformed my stay. Not only did the suite provide more space and comfort, but it also featured two incredible views of the city that exceeded my expectations. Room on the 8th floor very quiet, good size and massive bathroom with two sinks. This location is perfect and the view down the river is well worth any extras. Price dropped by quite an amount, didn't offer the option of rebooking as I paid a non cancellable rate. Which I did to guarantee a room, seems that kind of loyalty is not rewarded. Was told we would get free drinks vouchers, but never gave them to us. Had no rooms at all available to extend check out time. Door was chapped bang on 11am by housekeeping (perhaps a coincidence) Also not keen on doormen insisting taxis are cheaper, must uber was much cheaper.

It is in the best location in downtown Chicago. It gets a little bit noisy at night, but it is downtown! The only thing that I was not happy about it was that the breakfast was not a Buffet one. There is a restaurant that you should order your breakfast. Everything else was great and I enjoyed staying here

Loved the Royal Sonesta! The beds and pillows were all very soft and not our preference, but we still loved our stay. The signature lobby scent smelled so good! (Is there a Sonesta Lobby candle I can buy!? lol). The location could not be better in downtown Chicago. Staff was so friendly. 10/10 would recommend!

We were given a room upgrade when we arrived. The staff were very helpful and were quick to get us a cab or give a restaurant recommendation. We will definitely be back.

My personal opinions, which do not detract from my 10/10 hotel rating… waterfall shower head- sounds glamorous and feels exciting, but if you have hair longer than an inch it takes forever to actually wash. There were lots of doorman but only one who actually interacted and greeted guests. I should have gotten his name to give a personal compliment.Check in was efficient, but not friendly. We ate in the bar late in our first night. The burger was amazing (bacon jam!) and the bartender was great. Ambiance of bar was fun and we appreciated the convenience of actually having a good restaurant on site!

The staff at the reception and at the restaurant weren’t the best. It took 10 minutes to get a waitress even though there were a few standing by and looking at our table of 3. We extended our stay for one more night due to a delay for our flight and we tried to book again, the receptionist wanted us to do book through Expedia. We had four different people trying to tell us different things on how to book. I wish that the staff knew what they were doing especially since it was an expensive stay.

A very quick trip to Chicago and this hotel was perfect! Close to the metro, so there was no need for a car or an uber. Everything is either in walking distance or on the metro line…perfect location! The hotel itself is beautiful and the people there are lovely. We had the option to pay $25 for an early checkin which was very helpful. The room was clean with an incredible view of the river. We would absolutely stay here again!

Staff was great help always and made sure my stay was comfortable. Hotel location was downtown right opposite Chicago river walk so easy to get around anywhere you like by walk. Normal check out time is around between 10 and 11 as my flight was late at night so they let me check out at 3pm afternoon with the small charge so if you let them know before hand I guess your not rushing really next morning when you check out I wish they could offer breakfast buffet in the mornings because on their breakfast food menu there wasn’t much there to eat or probably you like otherwise my stay was brilliant.

Even came from behind the desk and outside to the sidewalk to give us specific directions to get to the L to get to a Cubbies game. Location was outstanding. Convenient to everything. Location is convenient. I was wondering is it only me having the problem with the size of the walk in shower. The washroom is big, but the walk in shower is comparative small for me and my kids. We are all under 130lbs! Design matters that much in Chicago but the shower design is totally out of mind!

I booked this hotel for a birthday trip for my boyfriend and we were so please with everything the hotel had to offer. We arrived early to check-in and our room wasn't yet ready and they offered to hold our bags until our room was ready which gave us time to explore and eat. They mentioned we would get a text when the room was ready, we didn't receive one so we just waited until 4pm to head back to be on the safe side. Check-in was easy and smooth. We booked the Premier King Room with River View and had room 1803 which was perfect. The view was amazing! The room was perfect for the two of us. A little after we checked in, one of the staff had to come to our room and brought some birthday surprises for my boyfriend. I had mentioned in the notes of my booking it was a birthday trip. They brought us a piece of cake and bottle of Prosecco. So sweet! The next day it was raining and didn't have an umbrella and we're going to buy one but the hotel actually provides you one if you ask the front desk, free of charge! It was so convenient! We also had brought back leftovers, but our room wasn't equipped with a microwave. I had asked the front desk if there was any where we could reheat our food and they offered to send a microwave to our room for free as well! The staff was absolutely amazing and so helpful with everything we needed. We also had a $10/day drink credit at Hoyt's, I got a drink one the last night which was so good! If we visit again, will definitely stay again!!

Our first time staying at a Royal Sonesta Hotel and we absolutely loved it! We thought it was very family friendly, the staff were amazing. We called in early in the morning for early check in and they were able to get us in our room sooner. The valet service was fast and the guys were very helpful.

Location was fantastic for a first-time trip to Chicago. Room was very spacious. Staff gave us an early check-in which was much appreciated. Plenty of restaurants and shopping right nearby. Didn’t partake of the bar, restaurant or gym during our stay.

We returned after staying a few days earlier and tried restaurant. Really tasty, fresh food. Staff very attentive in hotel and restaurant. A gem of a stay in Chicago!

Great location, nice room, friendly staff. Dissapointed that the hotel bar was closed Sunday. We went next door for breakfast as much better priced for same fare.

A disclaimer from the front desk would have been greatly appreciated. If you do get stuck in this room make sure to ask for a discount and bring a nice pair of earplugs.

The doormen, front desk staff and restaurant employees are amazing! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I’m surprised housekeeping knocked on the room door when the Do Not Disturb sign was on, but besides that, everything was great during my stay!

Didn’t eat there

The location cannot be beat! Central to so much! Door men were so welcoming! The only negative was the room was too hot and room thermostat didn't seem to make a difference. A roof top bar would have been nice.

The initial room I got had a great view, but had a terrible smell. So the staff gave us another room. That room had no view and the climate control was not working properly. So, they gave us a different room which was beautiful, but lacked a view. Overall, the staff did a fantastic job of mitigating the situation.

The hotel is located in an amazing location with nearby eateries and architecture. Walking distance to Millennium Park, Cloudgate, the subway, and the riverwalk. The room and bathroom were impressively spacious and the lobby was welcoming and smelled so good. The only downsides were that early in the morning we could hear slamming doors on our floor from our room which was disturbing. Our room did not have a good view but that wasn't the worst thing in the world. There appeared to be a slight mold spot in the shower but it was otherwise very clean.

The Hotel is stunning. My only complains are there were small ants in the lobby waiting area and I paid for early check in and still had to wait on my room to be available only not to have the view I paid for. All in all the staff was helpful and have me another room for the inconvenience. Amazing hotel overall I will stay again

It was also in a great location making it easy to walk around and see everything. It was also right across the street from the riverwalk. Overall, great experience and would stay here again.

On the negative side, and these are very small inconveniences, we didn't get fresh kleenex for the bathroom, so we took some from the housekeeper's cart. The TV reception was quite poor on many of the channels (I know - lots of people don't even watch the TVs in hotel rooms anymore!), and the fridge made a lot of noise! I suppose we could have asked for assistance with these things, but as I said, these were very small inconveniences, we were only there for three nights, and we were really only in our room at night. Everything else was great, and the rate was super for a downtown Chicago hotel, so I do recommend the Royal Sonesta!

We had a one year old with us and this property was great and very easily walkable to all the good spots. The staff was helpful with all our special needs and we were upgraded to a fantastic room through my Expedia status that was perfect for our little one. Highly recommend!

Me and my daughter had an amazing time. The property was very clean and tidy and very well maintained. The beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms had all the things we needed. They provided soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion. Room had a mini fridge and a coffee maker with complementary waters. We had an excellent view, and the property is very close to all of the things you would want to be close to downtown Chicago. They have such a cute theme. They also have a market inside the hotel for snacks and drinks late night and the lobby smelled amazing. We will definitely be back.

If you want a hotel that smells like a petting zoo during a heatwave this is your spot. If this is the Royal Sonesta a regular Sonesta must be a car on the back half of a traveling circus. I did not know it was a pets allowed hotel. It smells like pets.

The rooms were modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with comfortable beds and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. Everything felt well-maintained, and I appreciated the small touches that made the stay more comfortable. The staff was friendly and professional from check-in to check-out. Any questions I had were handled quickly, and they made me feel genuinely welcome throughout my stay. I highly recommend

I only had two complaints: the major one is that it was impossible to get internet in my room. I could get it fine in my meeting room but not the sleeping room. The minor is their coffee pods leave coffee grounds in the cup, every time. And their cups were too large for the capacity of the Keurig so I left a mess of water leaking but figured it out after the second morning. Sorry!

I prepaid parking through Spot Hero and was shocked to see the added valet charge on my bill. They got it fixed, but this is something they should be verifying. They never verified if I had my car parked with them.

Check in time 4 o clock little late and checkout 11 am too early . If 4 o’clock there should be an option for 4 pm check out . Room was very good with nice view of river. Bathroom had a funny smell, like a cesspool!! I did miss staying my first night due my air flight cancelation, early next morning I got to the front desk, wad told no avaliable room!!!

My husband and I stayed here during our 72-hour trip to Chicago, and it was absolutely perfect! The location was ideal and a quick walk to everything. ALL of the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of the city. We also really enjoyed the hotel bar, which had great food and strong drinks. Getting there was easy too! I called ahead and was told to take the Orange Line CTA from Midway airport to the Washington/Wabash stop and it was just about a 6–7 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again!

The hotel and suite were wonderful, I had the best view! The food choices were nice and the staff was amazing. The only issue I encountered was a group of teen boys who got on the elevator with me and tried to intimidate me into using my key card so they could go to another floor. When I resisted, they called me racist and crowded in on me. I was able to get off the elevator before the doors closed and onto another one without incident. However, the group was near the front desk and very loud so I'm not sure how it wasn't noticed. It was momentarily scary. Given that this hotel is near a busy intersection of Chicago, I'd recommend a little tighter security or monitoring of the elevator space.

What a perfect

Great to look at and if your nose doesn’t work. Smells horrible due to either less usage or sewerage back up. It took us a while to acclimatize so we can sleep. We arrived after midnight so didn’t have enough time to ask for change in room and ho through other hassles. But they need to clean rooms more often even if they’re not used.

Is the second time that I stayed there in each time was good. I would recommend it to anyone.

Valet was packed. We had to walk three blocks to park and walk back. Our refrigerator had a lock on it and it didn’t work. We had to throw out our leftovers we brought back from a very expensive dinner we had that night prior to check in. Nobody ever answers the phone at desk. They charged our snacks to the couple in front of us.

We had to change roms twice due to plumbing issues . Third room was a nice upgrade but due to plumbing problems we enduresd a high pitched noise for 6 hours coming from bathroom. We had to shut both bathroom doors and turn up the TV to finally get some sleep.

First of all let me say that the manager was really helpful and did her best to make our stay pleasant. However the problems started when our toilet almost overflowed due to plumbing issues lower in the building. I asked the desk clerk to be moved after maintenance could not fix the problem and he had to give us a city view room instead of the river view because we never paid for a river view. I did pay for a river view , it was the reason I booked that hotel. After much discussion he did move us to a slightly upgraded room but still city view. The toilet in this room didn't flush at all ( first thing we checked). So we had to call down and maintenance came up and verified the toilet was broke. Now the manager got involved and upgraded us to a beautiful suite with both a river view and city view. After getting settled in we hear a loud high pitched noise like an alarm going off. We searched for the source of the sound but couldn't find where it was coming from . I go out into the hallway and I see the maintenance guy who of course recognized me by then and he comes to our room to hear the sound. He recognizes it as a sound that comes from a toilet if the room hasn't been used in a long time but assured us it would go away. We went out to dinner and a show and came back to our room at 11 pm and had to shut both bathroom doors and turned up the TV to drown out the noise. The high pitched noise finally stopped around 5am. This whole experience was aggravating although comical.

The room was very nice, clean & spacious, the lobby was very clean, set up nicely & warm during an extremely cold weekend, very accommodating even brought us up a microwave upon request. Will definitely be staying here again when we return to Chicago!

Loved the hotel. It is in such a convenient location within walking distance to many popular places in downtown Chicago. Candice was so helpful with early check in and provided an overall smooth experience. The room was exactly like the pictures. My only complaint is the sewage/drainage smell that came from my bathroom. I kept the door closed most of the time. I enjoyed my city view on the 16th floor though. For a 2-night stay this was definitely a great choice. I will be returning.

The room was fine. The menu for the connected restaurant, Hoyts was super underwhelming. If you look online at their menu, it is extensive and looks pretty good but once we got down to the restaurant, it was about a quarter of the offerings. We did not eat there. I booked a room with a city view and that is not the room that I got. The room overlooked a couple of industrial roofs with AC and heating units and other things like that and the backs of a couple ugly buildings. We absolutely did not have a city view by any stretch of the imagination which was super disappointing. When I booked my reservation confirmation said that I had a $10 food or beverage room credit that I was never given. I booked this room because it was my daughter‘s birthday and she wanted to be in the city and able to look out our room window and view the city so this was extremely disappointing for us.

This place was perfect!!! Soo so so much space for our family. The bathroom was actually enormous…like TWO separate sinks even and huge soak tub and huge wall in shower!!! The hotel was located in such an amazing area that made it so convenient for us to check out everything downtown Chicago!! Staff was phenomenal! Great great stay and would highly recommend to anyone! We will return!!!

Pros Incredible location—you can walk to the Art Institute and to tons of eateries of all types and price-levels. The view from our room on the 33rd floor (city view) was movie-like. The room was spacious, well-kept, and very comfy. A separate doored closet with was a nice extra—so was the large bathroom. Staff was warm and professional. Valet parking was a must; very fast and easy. (Not cheap, but within reason.) Lots of hip and playful modern art throughout the whole hotel, including the rooms. Cons Lobby tiny—but stylish. One mattress had a huge sag in the middle. With one person on it, you didn’t notice so much. With two you had to be careful to avoid the roll-into-the-center syndrome. Nonetheless, we both slept fine. Shower too tight—should be at least six inches wider. And we’re not large people. Toilet crammed in to close to shower. Service person in lobby (bellhop?) was dressed too casual. Seemed like he was wearing sweats. Conclusion All-in-all, a wonderful stay and I would book again. But if you’re looking for a deluxe hotel, you might try other options :)

I had a great stay at this hotel. It was centrally located around so many things, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the room was exceptionally clean. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again! The breakfast food at their restaurant was amazing as well!

When I pulled up I was wholeheartedly greeted by the doorman. Upon entering the hotel it was a joyful and friendly atmosphere. The receptionist was very courteous and professional. I’ve stayed here multiply times and have been very satisfied. Will return again. One more thing, the hotel is in a great location.

Beautiful view of the river. Valet Parking is expensive, $78/night. Although, all parking downtown in Chicago is expensive. Self parking would have been $58 dollars but it was full.

2 major issues for us, tv didn’t work for casting from Netflix or any other app. The cable did work but they don’t even have HBO or any premium programming. Next up was the workout facilities. Elliptical didn’t work because it wasn’t plugged in or near a plug in to do our self. In 5 days of asking our TV nor the workout equipment was addressed. I would pick something else, will not return,

Was really bummed out about this stay. After we checked out, an amenities daily fee was added to our stay on the credit card we used. This was never mentioned in the Expedia booking. When you use the pre-pay option, it seems deceptive to not have a notice of extra fees. On top of this, we were not informed when we checked in that we had to pay an early check-in fee. If informed, we would have likely stored luggage and done another activity while waiting for the regular check-in time. I am not sure what the amentiies we paid for were...the internet was inconsistent - going in and out, the refrigerator was loud and had to be unplugged for sleep, the hair dryer was awful and did not function well, the pillows were quite uncomfortable, and no one replaced our used glasses with clean ones when the room was cleaned. I noticed trash on the floor (candy wrappers) in the lobby for a period of 24 hours that was never cleaned up. The staff were nice and pleasant enough and the view (minus Trump tower) was good.

I would say this is the most convenient place to stay because everything is walking distance

Room was great but service lacked in some impactful ways. I was doing a trip with my sister who arrived from Europe earlier than me when my flight was delayed. Despite having called the hotel (hours before check-in as soon as I realized I'd be late) and added her to the reservation, when she arrived, she was told she could not check-in because her name wasn't on the reservation. Not great service. After producing copies of the confirmation that I had personally emailed to her and going through a manager, she was permitted to check-in, and for which she provided a credit card. When I checked in, I switched the room to my credit card; however the hotel still has not released the held funds after two weeks on her card. Both her and I have called both the front desk and accounting departments. I've experienced multiple dropped calls in transferring and unreturned voicemails. It seems like these issues may be poor staff communication but it is souring a stay that would have been good. I'm honestly hoping that this review might help someone address the ongoing issue and highlight the need to be able to handle normal travel complications that any guest might experience.

First time visiting Chicago. The hotel is in a great spot with subway, public transportation and so much within walking distance. The room was amazingly comfortable and large with great views of the river and surrounding city. Complimentary Nespresso coffee maker and pods in the room with complementary bottled water was great. One of the best Hotel experiences of my life and we have stayed in our fare share of hotels. I would 100% stay here again.

The view from my room was absolutely amazing. This is one of the very few hotels whose view looks directly DOWN the river. Not at the river like legitimately looks down the river when you look straight out of your hotel room. It’s amazing. The rooms are a bit dated but the price was right for what we paid. There’s no pool which was disappointing but the location is 10/10. Parking is kinda expensive but honestly just having a car in Chicago is expensive in general. Their parking valet service worked well and they always had my car ready within about 15 min.

Kassie at Royal Sonesta went out of her way. I had booked our 6th anniversary there and had forgotten to mention it when I booked the trip. I mentioned it to Kassie at the time of check in and she upgraded us to a spectacularly beautiful suite. Then we went went out Friday evening, when we returned to our hotel, she had champagne, pastries and a lovely card awaiting us. We were blown away. We have stayed at the Royal Sonesta River downtown before and we will always continue to stay there because of people like Kassie. Thank you Kassie and Royal Sonesta for making our trip special.

I had an issue with the safe in my room and reception said that they will inform maintenance. 10 minutes later maintenance show up and are unable to fix the issue so they ended up replacing the entire safe instead, even the maintenance man said he has never had to do that before. The hotel is well located but a bit dated overall. The room was all right but it was 77F when I arrived and the AC was not keeping up with the sun. Breakfast service was DMV level terrible. I had better experiences at IHOP.

Received a view room without asking. Received a coupon for the on site restaurant which i did not have time to use. The desk clerk and bell staff were stellar!

Property was clean and quiet, parking details need to be advertised better as for someone who is unfamiliar with Chicago but other than that it was a very good experience.

The hotel is centrally located, easy walk to shops and restaurants. The hotel rooms are spacious, clean, modern, and very comfortable. The negatives - a new policy where they tried to charge me $50 for early check in (of course, I turned it down and I was only trying to check in one hour early), and the WiFi connection was awful.

Breakfast was a small portion compared to the price being charged but the food was good. Spacious Rooms with Amazing views. staff and professional and super helpful!

That is where the good ends. The river view was beautiful but we were on the 14th floor and the outdoor noise the whole night was intense so we did not get much sleep. The bathroom was old and smelled of mold. When I tried showering there were roaches coming up the drain. We left and messaged the hotel to let them know they had an issue and instead of apologizing they asked if I reported it while I was there. No, I left immediately and was grossed out! I would not stay here again.
