Reviews
The Robey Hotel is highly praised for its unique design, historic charm, and convenient location in Wicker Park, Chicago. Guests frequently mention the friendly and helpful staff, the great food and drinks, and the stunning views from the rooftop bar. However, some guests find the rooms to be small and overpriced, and there are occasional complaints about noise from the train and other guests.

My husband and I shared a lovely weekend at this property. We loved being able to valet our vehicle and just find everything we needed within walking distance. Hotel staff were so lovely. Having the pool open early for hotel guests was divine!

Wonderful stay! 10/10
- 4.5/5
Loved the design everywhere - the hotel is wonderfully put together and a pleasure to look at. The staff were great, serious and committed to our enjoyment of the stay. The rooftop pool at Solana was lovely to have hotel-exclusive access in the morning. We skipped the valet and looked for cheaper parking; ended up on the street at the meters. Nothing much you can do to avoid that. No issues and found spots within 5 minute walk.

It is a beautiful building. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great view of the city from the roof.

Hotel is old and needs an update. Right next to blue line el. Very noisy
- 5/5
The staff is enthusiastically friendly , the room was industrial chic -well appointed and the shower and soaps were incredible. The local gym was top notch and the roof top amenities were sublime.

Great hotel and location. Comfy bed , sheets, and pillows. Perfect cafe, bar, and roof pool area. Lovely accomodating staff. Big bathroom. Reasonable room rate. Only complaints: no drawers, high shelves, abd low water pressure in shower and sink
- 3.5/5
The view from the room is nice. The roof is covered in greenary and was better than just a roof with vents. Also able to see train from room, but did not hear it at all. The app for hotel made it seem you could add on additional items pretty easily. I tried to opt in for early check in, and beverages, but neither of those we were able to do. We were able to drop our bags, but I would not have come straight to the hotel if we knew we could not check in.

Clean and easy to deal with the staff. Entries were confusing

I can't say enough good things about the Robey. Everything is beautiful. There are spaces to relax and enjoy you stay without being in the room. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The restaurant has sweet staff. I enjoyed my stay and I hope to return someday soon. Thank you to the entire staff and especially the handsome doorman!

Great location and very nice staff
- 5/5
Staff is great at this hotel. We really enjoyed the rooftop bar, although we would like to see the hours extended to open before 5 PM. Great location and great places to stay. We would do it again.

Great views. Comfortable Bed. Clean room. Thoughtful amenities and decor. Pleasant and professional staff.

- 5/5
The room was clean, convenient and impervious to exterior sounds (the El-tracks across the street were never heard). Th breakfast in the Robey Cafe was fresh, timely and served expertly by a very friendly and professional staff. I'll definitely be coming back.
- 5/5
Nothing. But as always in Chicago, the many additional taxes add up.
- 5/5
Location, character of historic building and fittings. Staff very helpful and friendly. On-site dining. Rooftop bar. Nothing. But as always in Chicago, the many additional taxes add up.
- 5/5
Awesome hotel! Staff was exceptional and couldn’t have been more pleasant and accommodating. The cafe and both bars were great. Rooftop bar is a must. Location of hotel is so convenient to walk to shops, restaurants, etc. 100% will stay there again.
- 5/5
Very clean
- 2/5
We stayed in the room in the apex of the triangle. The square footage is reduced by poles supporting the overhead loft bed and a tv that juts out from the wall. It’s like the place is booby trapped. The only storage is under the loft bed so plan on smacking your head at least once until you learn to keep squatting and ducking. The water from the shower trickles into the floor. It gets slippery. All the employees I encountered were very friendly and easy going. The room was expensive…fees and taxes were added on to the Expedia cost at the end of the stay.
- 5/5
Cool space
- 5/5
The hotel staff was so friendly, attentive and accommodating. The restaurants and bars are incredibly convenient and have excellent food and beverages. The hotel is in a cool, walkable area with restaurants and shops.
- 5/5
Rooms were nice and staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Room clean. Staff was great from checking to out, including valet service. Breakfast was good (all day brunch ). Family friendly, we had a 5 year old.
- 5/5
Our stay was excellent! While we didn’t take advantage of the breakfast or restaurants available to us in the hotel, we loved the clean and comfortable room, location of the hotel, the unique designs, and the friendly staff. Whenever we go back to Chicago, we will definitely stay here again!
- 5/5

Friendly staff, great room
- 3/5
It's OK. Spotty. Some good. Some not so good.
- 4/5
Very good
- 5/5
The room was great! And the staff were amazing, super friendly, and attentive. This hotel is located in a busy area, by a Metro line, so expect some exterior noise. The blackout shades were a wondeful surprise!
- 5/5
Extremely great property
- 5/5
Stay was wonderful as was staff!
- 5/5
I had an event at the Chop Shop and it was right across the street from the hotel. The staff was very polite and helpful in getting us checked in and the car parked. I would stay there again. Did not have time to visit any of the restaurants or bars in the hotel but they looked extremely inviting.
- 4/5
Clean room, friendly staff
- 5/5
A very comfortable, inviting stay. I love the Le Labo bathroom products! The room smelled great and was very cozy. Cafe food delivered right to the room. Temperature adjustments to the rooms were easy and quick. All of the employees were very nice and helpful. Loved that there was a noise machine provided as well. The TV was lagging when trying to use the streaming services, but I just put the TV on to fall asleep, not my main point of focus for my trip!
- 5/5
Clean room and in a fun part of town.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Delightful staff, great vibe, lovely amenities.
- 5/5
They upgraded our room for free, and gave us free champagne. Customer service was top-tier, and engaged in conversation with us every time we pass by them about our daily activities. We would definitely come back and will soon!
- 2/5
We stayed on the 10th floor. The 12th floor rooftop bar on the played a digital base sound that reverberated down into our room until around 1:15-1:30 AM on Friday and Saturday night. I called down to the front desk twice on Saturday night to complain. I noticed no change in the volume after those calls. The sound machine provided in the room was of no help. I will not stay here again.
- 5/5
Clean room , helpful staff
- 5/5
The rooms are gorgeous but the windows in the bathroom are not as private as we would like.
- 5/5
Clean room, great friendly staff, restaurants were great, bars were both wonderful vibes and fun drinks! Location was perfect for us.
- 5/5
clean rooms & helpful staff
- 5/5
Great location, nice rooms. Staff was great.
- 3/5
Rooms were small but very nice. Did not expect or appreciate the resort fee. The rooftop bar (the best part of the hotel in my opinion) says it's open until midnight but they do last call at 11 and don't let you up past then, so I consider it misleading to say it's open until midnight.
- 5/5
Bar was well stocked, staff was friendly
- 3/5
The room was in good condition but very small and cramped for 2 people. Also, attempts at designing the room to be "retro cool" has its drawbacks. I received a small shock trying to turn on a light with the old fashioned switches which are also confusing to operate. To improve the room: A bureau with drawers would be convenient for clothing storage. Also: no curtain blocking the coffee maker making it difficult to access. Better lighting would be nice. Also, the heat doesn't work well. The bathroom was always cold with a draft. (This is room # 1003; it's possible that other rooms are more comfortable) The window views are spectacular and the bed is very comfortable, so there are positives as well.
- 5/5
Fantastic stay, staff was kind and extremely helpful. Definitely will be coming back, City views are amazing.
- 5/5
Business friendly
- 4/5
Room a bit dated but comfortable. House keeping awesome. Front desk staff also very friendly.
- 5/5
Amazing property, great staff, superb cookies !
- 5/5
Good location, great staff!
- 5/5
Love the Robey! It has it all - great location, comfy and clean room, all the amenities and a super staff. It’s where I always stay in Chicago.
- 5/5
Amazing location and super friendly staff. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The view from the rooftop deck was spectacular! The only downside was the fold and drinks at the 2nd floor bar. I would skip that all together. The 1st floor cafe was fantastic and the Turkish egg breakfast was delicious.
- 5/5
Very comfy bed - nice modern/industrial decor
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, amazing staff, vibrant neighborhood with tons of options for food, shopping, and a night vibe. My top choice in Chicago!
- 4/5
The room was very comfortable, in room mini bar was complimentary. Room service prompt. There is road noise, but this is to be expected in a city. I would recommend the hotel
- 5/5
Room was nice and there is a great view of the city from the rooftop.
- 4/5
Dailey “destination fee” was a bogus and deceptive feature. $26 per night for virtually zero value.
- 5/5
Friendly,helpful staff
- 5/5
Staff were superb - both at the Cafe a the front desk. Gym next door was a great option to workout
- 5/5
This is our third stay. It’s convenient for family get togethers. If you need to be in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area it’s a great place to stay. Very walkable to shops and dining. Wonderful staff. It’s our go to hotel.
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Must try the restaurant, Cafe Robey. Hotel is right next to the super convenient train line. Also, great area because you’re in a lively spot that feels like real Chicago but not in the hubbub and tourist centric downtown. Be wary if you arrive early, no guarantee of early check-in and if you arrive on Friday the front desk might be overwhelmed with event/wedding and hotel guests checking in. Still, really enjoyed my stay here!
- 5/5
Loved it!
- 5/5
loved the unique room layout, rooftop view of Chicago and proximity to the train station
- 5/5
Beautiful room & views. Really enjoyed the aesthetic & amenities. The staff were lovely & all hotel spaces were very clean.
- 5/5
Front Desk Staff was amazing i will be back soon thanks to them
- 5/5
I was initially given Rm 312 which I have stayed in before which is over the nightclub and very noisy. I asked to be moved to a quiet room. Being handicap accessible was not necessary, but the hotel was able to move us on a very busy weekend which was hugely appreciated. The new room in the 5th floor was great. It is a small and very busy hotel and everyone there is very nice. I especially like the all day brunch in the restaurant. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with amazing staff! Delicious dining options. Great location and awesme city views.
- 5/5
Second time staying at The Robey. Awesome location, clean rooms and the best staff!! When my shirt got rust on it from the iron in my room, I was immediately compensated and cost of replacement shirt provided. Just a cool, comfortable place to stay. Great music playing in the lobby too. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Very nice. Good neighborhood. Easy access to downtown and O’Hare
- 5/5
Cool spot with roof top bars that offer incredible views of the skyline and delicious drinks too. The room offered robes, coffee, a fridge with beverages and the staff was extremely polite and it was very clean and modern.
- 5/5
The front desk staff is amazing. They were helpful, clear and honest. From my booking to check out, they made me feel like a guest they valued. I will be back for a pleasure visit with my wife soon.
- 5/5
Great hotel.
- 5/5
My daughter and I stayed in the annex portion of the hotel, in a queen loft room. The room was immaculate, and the beds were comfortable. We mentioned that it was my daughter’s birthday at check-in and the staff surprised us with Stan’s Donuts and a sweet note! We found everyone there to be kind and helpful. We’ll be back for sure!
- 5/5
Location and food is phenomenal!! Robey’s eggs Benedict is amazing!!
- 5/5
👍
- 5/5
My daughter lives in Bucktown and this is a great place to stay. Nice restaurant, rooms aren't squishy and proximity to restaurants, shopping, etc. is great. Rooftop bar is really nice. I will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
This is a beautiful hotel that has old charm with modern amenities. I love that there a several options for food in the hotel and lots of great businesses and blue line access near by. The room wasn't huge but it was beautiful, comfortable and the beds were absolutely wonderful. A small complaint for me would be that do I wish the pool was larger. The roof top bar is absolutely stunning with amazing views. I would have to say that the very best part of our stay had to be the staff. Every staff person that we interacted with was just beyond lovely and helpful. That alone would make me come back and stay here. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Made it a great stay. Thank you
- 5/5
Great bars, great food, great service, spacious room, fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies at check-in! Wicker Park location was close to everywhere we wanted to be. 12/10. Will definitely stay here for my next trip to Chicago.
- 4/5
Loves the room and location (and the amazing Le Labo toiletries)! Will definitely book again.
- 1/5
My boyfriend and I came to stay here, because we were visiting my sister
- 4/5
Thin walls could hear neighbors
- 5/5
Loved the industrial vibes, the onsite bars and restaurants are great and we got to meet our favorite band there!!
- 4/5
nice stay.
- 5/5
Fabulous vibe. Gorgeous industrial design. Epic location. We didn’t want to leave!!! Only pet down was the pool. It was a small dipping triangle and the area was full of adults drinking so kids were a bit sad but otherwise- fabulous!
- 4/5
Great stay. Was able to get a room with a king-sized bed after 2 nights. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
- 5/5
Favorite place to stay in the city. Old and new! Great view!
- 3/5
The rooftop bar is nice but drinks will set u back depending on what u drink. Me I had a small DBL of buffalo trace n it cost me 35$. The token they give u for the drink around the corner. Don't plan on eating. Lastly, the bed was hard n it took me a minute to unlock the door😜 for the first time in the city. Definitely better choices for the money
- 3/5
It’s way too loud. Doors don’t seal at bottom and you can hear everything in the halls. Train noise is super loud. Sound machine in our room was broken.
- 5/5
Beds.
- 5/5
Clean room with a nice modern vibe.
- 5/5
I cannot say enough good things about this Hotel. An absolute gem that surpassed all my expectations. Loved the in hotel dining options. Great view from the pool and top level. What a place!
- 3/5
Claustrophobic feel
- 5/5
This was a beautifully updated Art Deco hotel with attention to detail, including push button light switches. There are five restaurants/bars in the hotel. Excellent service and lots of activity. Hotel is a block from "L" train to downtown.
- 2/5
We got to the hotel and the lady at the service counter, even though it is a self check out I needed help and she didn’t wanna help me. I finally got her to help and she kept stopping to help other people in the middle of serving me on top of all that there was Homosexual symbolism all throughout the hotel that was very uncomfortable to me and my wife videos of homosexual activity on the elevator, the room was terribly small. The air conditioner did not work and then proceeded to condensate all over the floor.
- 5/5
We had the most incredible stay here! The staff were terrific, the food was soooo delicious and the rooms were beyond luxurious. We are now obsessed with the Robey!
- 4/5
The shower was really nice except for the large gap between the bottom of the shower and the bottom of the shower curtain. HUGE puddle outside on the floor. Housekeeping must hate that, plus it's a slipping hazard
- 5/5
Very clean, staff was very friendly and helpful
- 5/5
This was my second time staying the hotel staff was very helpful and kind they were great overal. The hotels amenities are great I took full advantage of them this time and had a wonderful stay, next time I come back to Chicago I will definitely be staying here again.
- 4/5
Great shopping near by, fabulous customer service, and the rooms are so quiet and clean! It was nothing less than amazing ! Rooftop bar, pool, easy travel with the train! 1000 out of 10 ! Highly recommended
- 5/5
When I come back to Chicago, this is where I'll stay
- 5/5
A delightful place to stay.
- 5/5
Cool hotel, great staff. Comfortable rooms.
- 3/5
I like the location very much . However the room was too compact for me I need a desk to use my computer or write a note. There was no bathrobe which I think is a mistake The bathroom sink is small and not enough space to put my toothbrush makeup etc I also don’t like using a paper cut for water The cafe Robey was excellent
- 5/5
Staff were very helpful and kind, beautiful property and room
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel ad awesome view from king corner unit.
- 5/5
Loved the charming atmosphere and the front desk and valet staff were lovely and attentive.
- 4/5
Our bed was comfortable and our room was very clean. The hotel is adjacent to the elevated train and the hotel had a noise machine provided in the room. There was a DJ playing music close by that Saturday evening, so the sound machine came in handy.
- 5/5
The 1 thing i dislike is the narrow sink depth
- 5/5
Beautiful and easy to do things! From the cafe downstairs to local businesses down the street this hotel was so nice. The rooftop bar was amazing.
- 5/5
Great staff and location- we enjoyed our stay at the Robey in Wicker Park!
- 5/5
Great stay, great hotel, would recommend to anyone who needs to stay in the area
- 5/5
Smart use of the limited space. Excellent city views! Hotel staff gets a 10 out of 10: friendly, accommodating, and timely. Appreciated the knock on our door after we settled in with a bottle of chilled sparking wine and chocolates! Parking is crazy in the area so I highly recommended their valet service. We will be back when the weather in Chicago warms up and we can take advantage of the rooftop pool.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Great location with nice views and a helpful staff. Will stay again.
- 5/5
Friendly, helpful staff.
- 5/5
Super easy check in. Great attentive staff. Cafe robey has great food and bottomless mimosas
- 5/5
Loved it, Wicker Park is a great neighborhood!
- 3/5
It’s a modern vibe which I appreciate but I had a loft bed that I didn’t reserve. There was a huge gap under my door so I could hear everything in the hall as if it was in my room. There was a train track right outside my room window. On the plus side it was very clean. The Emily in west loop is better though for the same vibe.
- 5/5
The electric blinds were awesome, the location is perfect. We will definitely be returning.
- 5/5
This was my first time staying in Chicago and I’m coming back if only to stay at the Robey. I had the most adorable room, so well furnished, with a fabulous view of the city.
- 4/5
Very nice place, small rooms which we were aware of. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Great shower! Would have appreciated a small nightstand on my side of my bed. Used my suitcase instead.
- 3/5
there seems to be two different levels of quality and my room was in a strange side building. My room was a cross between a janitor closet and a dorm room. Cement ceilings and duct work running through as well as wall mounted basin for a sink. Lockers and a bunk bed. No desk or anywhere to put things. Forced to work from the bed. Also the shower curtain was not an appropriate length and so water went everywhere on very slippery floors. There was not even any hooks in the bathroom nor any counter so there was no where to put anything. Bright spot are the bars and the staff was very nice. I would go again to the rooftop bar but not to stay.
- 5/5
Just excellent
- 5/5
Amazing property, super cool and fun renovation
- 5/5
The views from the hotel are amazing and I really liked design of the hotel. My room was secluded and private which I loved.
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel! Very quiet, comfortable beds , great cafe and cocktail bar : in a fantastic area
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel! Stayed here to see a rock show at the Subterranean across the street. Be sure to include valet parking for a quick and easy arrival/departure.
- 1/5
There was no parking . We were told to use an App and find parking. It took about 45 min to find parking which was 1/4 mile away. They gave us the wrong receipt to sign. Definitely not doing this again . Worst Marriot affiliated hotel we have ever stayed at
- 5/5
I love everything about the Robey. Now if the Damen CTA station only had an elevator for getting heavy bags up to the train platform life would be perfect!
- 5/5
My favorite place to stay when in Chicago! My partner & I even make a destination of this hotel. It’s an easy go-to when we are looking for something special to do & are in the area, because they make it such a great experience every time. Also, I love Le Labo & they partner with them, so even using the hotel-supplied products is a joy.
- 5/5
We do staycations often here from the suburbs. Always a great stay.
- 5/5
Perfect for a family of four.
- 5/5
Beautiful room and hotel. The booking communication from The Robey was excellent. The roof is gorgeous. Neighborhood is phenomenal. Bottom bunk bed was like a blow up mattress very uncomfortable.
- 5/5
Very comfortable stay right off the blue line from Ohare and close to many restaurants and bars including nice ones in the hotel.
- 5/5
The atmosphere is really fun. Very comfortable and cleanrooms
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Very clean, quiet and unique. Would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Gorgeous hotel, cool decor, Le Labo toiletries, and right across the street from Subterranean. Great spot!
- 5/5
A cool building that reminds you of a by gone era but with current amenities for current day. Close to wicker park, plenty of food options close by
- 5/5
What a perfect little room to stay in while in town for work. The closet space could be a smidge bigger but honestly all else was lovely. The breakfast service on the lobby floor was also stellar. Bed was comfortable. Would absolutely stay there again!
- 5/5
Excellent location and hotel. One of the best bar views of the city skyline with great cocktails. Very friendly and attentive staff.
- 5/5
Very Industrial
- 5/5
Lovely hotel with comfortable bed, beautiful room, excellent dining and bar experiences (3 on property). Service was impeccable and the neighborhood is fun with lots to do. My only discomfort was the lack of a bureau to put clothes away. The bathroom, while large, had very little space to unpack cosmetics and such.
- 5/5
Great staff!
- 2/5
Hotel is tired. Bedding is horrible. Elevators are old and slow. A two-star property with four-star rates.
- 5/5
Great!
- 4/5
Location. Historic. Service
- 5/5
As a Chicago native, Wicker Park is definitely the place you want to stay for a real Chicago vibe.
- 5/5
This location is great place to launch a visit to Chicago. The rail is right around the corner and buses pass in all directions. There are so many great and affordable dining options within a short walk from the Hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Most importantly, they are quiet which is something hard to find in the city. I plan to stay here again.
- 5/5
Great hotel! Can’t fault it!
- 1/5
My friends and I were excited to go look at the view of Chicago from the Cabana Club on the 6th floor. After looking around for a few minutes, an extremely rude employee started walking towards us with a bad look on her face and when she got to the outdoor part said “You’re not allowed to be up here, it’s closed for a private party.” After telling her that neither my friends nor I were aware of this she rudely proclaimed that there was a sign on the first floor. We apologized for not knowing, or having seen the sign, and so we went back to our room. When we were back at the lobby subsequently, we found a sign next to the elevator that simply stated, “Closed for a private event”. But what happened to be closed for a private event was not actually indicated anywhere on this sign. It could have just as well been in reference to the Robey Cafe, which is right there in the hotel lobby only steps away from the sign. It was just very frustrating to get unrightfully chewed out by a member of the staff who had no intention of being forgiving or understanding of a simple mistake. I mean, god forbid we are able to use all of the amenities that are advertised to come with a stay that I pay my hard earned money for, right?
- 5/5
Beautiful property, great food!
- 4/5
Could have used more shelves and storage in room especially bathroom. Chic but not practical.
- 5/5
The Robey is an experience in itself. The rooms are amazing, the beds so comfortable, friendly staff, good restaurants, and great location. Unfortunately when our room was cleaned the coffee and cups, cream, etc…was not restocked. I called to the front desk but finally just went downstairs to the lobby and brought it up to the room. The only other issue we had was the tv did not work, not sure if it was the remote or the tv itself. I just think for $400+ a night there should not be issues. Regardless, it’s an amazing hotel and I would absolutely stay there again.
- 5/5
Beautiful old building with modern renovation. Public areas original.
- 3/5
Next time The Pendry, Park Hyatt or the 4 Seasons. Room rates are almost the same.
- 5/5
No complaints other than the giant intersection outside the hotel.
- 5/5
My mom and I stayed in the double queen room for 3 nights and had a fantastic stay. The room was beautiful and modern, the people were SO friendly, and atmosphere of the hotel was very hip and the rooftop was one of the best I've seen in the city. All around a great experience and despite it being a bit pricey, it was worth it. Great location next to the L
- 5/5
Great, charming boutique hotel in Wicker Park within walking distance to same amazing restaurants. Would definitely go back.
- 5/5
Love it

Some of the people working at the front desk were not very friendly/warm and did not speak slowly or clearly when they were explaining things. I had to ask them to repeat what they said ... I am 40 years old and not hard of hearing. I would consider staying here in the future, but only if there are improvements to the staff and their attitude.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The different bars and restaurants were fun and unique!
