No coffee machines in the room but free coffee in the lobby. Great location. The bar is a scene and the rooftop patio is a beautiful space. Great sound insulation and comfy beds.

Amazing property and staff!

Tv did not work, water pressure and plumbing fixtures were terrible. Definitely not boutique status, hotel was dated, staff was crass, experience was awful
- 5/5
Clean, upgraded room. The "rooftop" restaurant was fantastic as well. Close proximity to all of the wonderful shopping!
- 5/5
We were very pleased with The Gwen. Would definitely recommend!

This is the best hotel on Michigan Avenue. Access to Nordstrom without leaving the building. Great views, food, very clean and smells amazing!

Well connected and close to everything. Comfortable room. Would suggest that Tea/coffee machine should be included as standard in the room - it is available on request.

Everything was fantastic. And beautiful.

Rooms really well appointed and beds were incredibly comfortable Booking included breakfast - on arrival was told they would only honour for 2 (4 people on the booking) - staff were really unhelpful and left to us to resolve with booking.com (we are now out of pocket as breakfast was very expensive but was tied to the hotel based on two being able to eat) Rooms serviced too late (one time after 6pm) and used chewing found in a napkin.

What really stood out was the staff. Everyone we spoke with was beyond welcoming. Outstanding!

Big room, big bathroom, welcome cookies, free bottled water, tea and coffee at reception level for free in the morning till 9:30am. No coffee machine and water Boiler in room, no “do not disturb” signs for door, we created our own, in order not to be woken up by room service.

Beautiful hotel! Love the lobby bar and the rooftop seating with gorgeous fire tables offer lovely city landscape backdrops for amazing photos. Bonus points for being connected to Nordstrom/ my husband always appreciates sitting at the Nordstrom bar while I shop! The cookies and good beverage credits for complimentary cocktails is a nice touch. They also threw in complimentary tix to the Skydeck at John Hancock- we didn’t have time to use them but nice touch! Super fast elevators and every employee was eager to please. Rooms in smaller side (we had a deluxe king) but had everything one would need.
- 5/5
We rooms are always lovely and we had breakfast both mornings at your hotel. Meridith waited on us both days and she was excellent. Personable and welcoming.
- 3/5
Arrived at around 3pm.....rooms not ready...give us 20 minutes and we will notify you when one is available. Okay, sure...(it was really late in the day already...but it is holidays so)....go sit in bar area and have food. No notification....so close to 4pm re-approach front desk. Room is ready... That is one of the latest check-ins I have ever had. We had an engagement that started at 5pm...so it was less than ideal.
- 5/5
The room was spacious and the bed was firm and comfortable! The room and bathroom were spotless and the lobby was decorated beautifully!
- 5/5
One of my favorite hotels in Chicago. Always an excellent stay.

- 5/5
Perfect stay. Highly recommend
- 4/5
Odd layout. Street noise was terrible w racing cars and motor cycles all night.
- 5/5
The service and every single staff person that we encountered were top drawer. The room was immaculate. Definitely would come back here again.
- 5/5
Convenient
- 5/5
Overall wonderful property no complaints at all fine dining and shopping walking distance. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing and staff very polite and accommodating.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, good breakfast
- 5/5
one of the best hotels I have stayed at in Chicago. Great staff. Great restaurant and rooftop bar on the fifth floor. Location is within walking distance of most everything on Michigan Ave. Room was great , bathroom great, beds great. Would and have already highly recommended this hotel to several people. The only suggestion I have is with the shower products. Accessibility to the pump on the shower products is difficult to pump . If the bottles were a little higher in their holders you could pump the soap out easier , but all of the guests in our room had the same issue with the soap dispenser. Its a small critique , but you should know , thats why you are asking. Great job Gwen
- 5/5
Loved this hotel!!! I picked this hotel because I needed a place to stay in Chicago and because of its name. My name is Gwen and I loved staying here. I loved the rooms, location (it is walkable to everything even the water taxi on Michigan), and the easy access to parking. I can’t wait to stay here again.
- 5/5
Location, convenience, helpful staff
- 3/5
I wouldn’t stay here if you are looking for a 5-star hotel experience. Amenities were lacking on the property and in the rooms, service was mediocre-poor and the rooms are fine but slightly run down. Feels more like a basic, massive chain 4-star hotel than a “luxurious” experience. Wouldn’t stay here again, unfortunately - completely overpriced and I’m surprised that this is considered to be in the 5-star hotel category.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel great service.
- 5/5
Excellent. I love this hotel. Very beautiful snd great location.
- 5/5
Hidden gem in a wonderful location. Spacious rooms with comfy beds. A pleasure to stay at.
- 5/5
Phenomenal location, so many things within walking distance
- 5/5
Favorite in Chicago!
- 5/5
Loved my stay!
- 4/5
Check-in, room, comfort and staff all great as they’ve been in the past. However, our brunch on Sunday was very overpriced relative to what it was, and it seemed hard to get a reservation despite the fact that it was almost empty when our time came. I tried on a Couple of occasions over the weekend to get drinks at the bar and gave up due to a long wait. I’ll maybe return not sure yet.
- 3/5
I had hoped for a much nicer experience given the local options at comparable costs but was let down tremendously. I highly regret not booking elsewhere. Interactions with staff were cold, unfriendly, uninviting and the several I interacted with during my stay were combative or down right hostile. Hotel claims to be “luxury” but there’s really nothing luxury about it except perhaps the bathrooms.
- 5/5
Wonderful getaway for a quick girls trip! Rooms have a nice amount of space and the concierge was unmatched! They went the extra mile to ensure my sister experienced a beautiful weekend!
- 5/5
Awesome place to stay. Had a great time in this hotel. Will come back again.
- 4/5
Very Relaxing and Peaceful
- 5/5
The Gwen was a really lovely hotel with great vibes in the lobby and bar area, too. The concierge helped us with balloons and champagne in our room as we were celebrating a birthday, and the employee who checked us in gave us two drink vouchers when our room wasn’t ready right away. Overall, it was a great stay and location and I’d stay here again!
- 5/5
Beautiful place. Parking $45 per day but plenty of spots and right across street from hotel. Very convenient. Close to restaurants in walking distance.
- 5/5
Check in was very clunky. But the hotel was beautiful.
- 4/5
This hotel is located on the Best spot in Chicago, walking distance to everything . I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Room a good size. Restaurant again had the most well trained amazing staff. Great area for easy access shopping and sights. We will return.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, nothing negative to say!!
- 5/5
Everyone was so friendly. Great location! Bed was very comfy!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, wonderful stay!
- 5/5
The hotel was clean restaurant food was great it’s convenient and by everything
- 5/5
Comfortable beds, lovely ambience and great location.
- 5/5
Good value for the price.
- 5/5
Staff was very accommodating no matter the request. So many activities and places to eat in walking distance
- 4/5
I liked the hotel a lot. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
The Gwen is our favorite hotel in Chicago. The location is fantastic with easy access to dining and shopping options. We also enjoy the convenience of the public parking lot across the street

- 5/5
Absolutely amazing!
- 5/5
Outstanding. Rooms, cleanliness, location, great bar, terrace area is awesome
- 5/5
For our first time stay we had a wonderful time. You can’t beat the location, it was so easy to get to Magnificent Mike, River North and Gold Coast. Easy parking and nice, attentive staff.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 3/5
Nothing special when paying for a Suite. TV wont completely turn off. When turned off, it comes back on and the entire screen glows all night.
- 3/5
Nice, cute hotel - our AC though in our room didn't work and it got extremely cold in our room in the one night we stayed. We mentioned this at checkout, but it did affect our sleep!
- 5/5
The Gwen is located in a fantastic location with easy access to so many iconic Chicago locations. The vibe was hip and casual with an iconic Moet & Chandon vending machine in the lobby! We had a generous sized double queen and though located pretty much right next to the elevator we were not disrupted by noise.
- 2/5
Walls are paper thin but you can’t hear outside which is great but you will hear your fellow guests. Food is good but unfortunately the room was gross. Had finger prints in glasses. The bathroom had hair in the shower. And the glass of the window had something sprayed on it. Won’t be back
- 5/5
location was very walkable
- 5/5
Called for help after midnight and got help right away
- 5/5
Highly recommend this hotel! The location is great, the rooms are spacious, and the staff is very friendly.
- 5/5
Cozy, cute, great location
- 3/5
Not a luxury hotel. Trying to be. Fried food smells in the hallways, average linens. Old interior in the rooms. Parking is 40.00 a night with the hotel discount. Forgot to mention, that is across the street. It’s a good location for walking to the miracle mile, and restaurants.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Downtown convenient to everything
- 5/5
Very nice, clean, large rooms. Well-appointed. Hotel lobby very welcoming. Looked like a lovely outdoor dining patio, though I didn’t eat there.
- 5/5
It was a great place.
- 5/5
Overall experience was great, although this was a working event during my week I was very pleased.
- 4/5
So I would have just paid the 50 for 2 days and not had the extra food and drink money on my bill. Not happy ..
- 3/5
I stayed here for 4 nights together with some friends last week. I had booked a deluxe room for myself and standard rooms for my friends. Was very disappointing to see that their rooms were a little bigger and bathrooms were tad nicer than mine. The hotel in general was smaller and less luxe than I had been expecting.
- 5/5
Excellent location! Luigi was very personable and helpful throughout our stay.
- 5/5
Good location, nice vibe, amazing staff!
- 1/5
Rude hotel reception and credit they give you is bogus
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic and we can't wait to come back again soon. Luigi at reception and Ramon at concierge are the BEST!
- 4/5
I was in room 1436 and there was no electrical outlet on my side of the bed to have my phone charging through the night next to me.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Not too large. Entire staff was so friendly. Most comfortable beds and sheets. Great food. Can't wait to stay here again!
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. Do not walk late at night even if just a few blocks. Would love to return in summer for a more representative idea of the rooftop terrace.
- 4/5
Nice place to stay in Chicago.
- 5/5
Loved this hotel, beautiful and close to everything!
- 5/5
We loved our stay and enjoyed the hotel staff from the front desk to the bar tenders. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The bedding was great, except the pillows are too soft. Bathroom was great and location was within walking distance of just about everything.
- 5/5
very nice
- 5/5
It was everything I expected
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, most comfortable bed ever. Loved the tub and bathroom setup. Great stay overall.
- 5/5
Rooms are nice size. Staff very accomodating
- 4/5
Overall I enjoyed the stay. However staff could be more professional.. the only lady that was very helpful was the hostess at the restaurant
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, easy to walk around. Parking is tough but everything else was fantastic.
- 5/5
The rooms and service were awesome
- 4/5
This is a beautiful hotel but isn’t quite lux, the rooms are clean but a little underwhelming for the price. The staff is amazing though and the lobby is truly gorgeous in that art deco revival style. The concierge were very helpful and the location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of the action and close to the lake. I wish the television was a smart TV, who watches cable these days, I’d prefer to stream right to the TV. Would I stay here again? Yes. I really did like the easy access to Nordstrom and the lobby bar/lounge was very nice.
- 5/5
Great place, perfect for a weekend getaway.
- 5/5
Stayed two nights for a family weekend trip for my husband’s birthday. Luigi greeted us and made sure to ask if we were celebrating anything. The room was quiet and plenty of space for my husband and I. The bed and pillows were so comfortable. My only complaint is that the bathroom needs more places to hang towels/toiletry bags, etc
- 5/5
The Gwen is a great hotel with excellent customer service and facilities. They have many nice features like hot apple cider available in the lobby on a cold afternoon that I appreciated. I highly recommend.
- 5/5
Nice property .
- 5/5
Great location and beautiful hotel. Upon arrival, we were given two vouchers to be used at the bar complimentary. However, while checking out, we were charged 17 dollars for this “resort fee”. Since we had not used the vouchers the amount was credited. A bit misleading to say something is complimentary yet are charged for it. Parking is 75 at the hotel but you can park overnight right across in Nordstrom’s parking garage for 37 dollars overnight.
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel! Service was friendly and helpful! Location is perfect, connected to the mall, right on Michigan Ave, 10 minute train to State street stores, 10 minute train ride to Rush and Oak store area!!!
- 3/5
It started off right away with a terrible impression. We stay in hotels in Chicago 8-10 times per month and I don’t think I will stay here for the price, service and value we received. When we arrived the valet failed to acknowledge us. Finally after unpacking our belongings I stood in front of the valet stand and the valet continued to finish writing whatever he was writing for about a solid 30 seconds when I finally cleared my throat and we made eye contact. How can I help you sir? I’d like to valet my car. He took my name down on a piece of paper and then asked me to turn my car off. I told him that I should probably move my car out of the way because there’s cars waiting to go through. He replied and said it’s not my problem they can wait. As I started to walk away the cars behind me now started to honk and cause a scene and make me look like it’s my fault that the valet told me to leave my car there. I told him to please move the car. And I proceeded to walk into the first level to take the elevator. Waited 5 MIN. for elevator and I watched through the windows as the valet driver kept pushing my brake lights and not going anywhere. Long story short. valet driver didn’t know how to start my car and I had to send it to the dealer because he had caused it to go into limp. Car was in D and off
- 5/5
Love the hotel rooms were wonderful
- 5/5
Front office staff was great and friendly
- 5/5
We booked a room with 2 queen beds and were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room. We were a little nervous about being so close to the elevators, but it turned out to not be an issue. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The varying types of firmness in the pillows was also a very nice touch and made the bed even more comfortable. We grabbed cocktails at the bar downstairs and the great service continued there as well. Our server was prompt, friendly and even gave us some good pointers of where to go after dinner. In the morning we had brunch out on the terrace, which was heaven considering we visited in November. Again, our service was great and the food was excellent. It was the perfect send off to our night out. Overall, everyone agreed it was an amazing stay from beginning to end. We will definitely be back!
- 5/5
The Concierge, Russell, was fantastic- kind, friendly, well-informed, positive, professional, good person:)!
- 5/5
This hotel was perfect for anyone wanting to be right by Michigan Avenue shopping. The restaurant was wonderful and it was connected to a shopping center that has Nordstrom.. I would absolutely stay here again. The hotel was clean, quiet & perfect for a night away as a couple to to bring your family and shop.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. The bed was comfortable. The service was lovely. Would definitely stay again and recommend to a friend.
- 5/5
Great hotel in the heart of walkable Chicago! Very comfy and safe.
- 5/5
Comfortable and quiet - close to everything I wanted to do. Check in and checkout was great / LuiGi was awesome!
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
We’ve stayed here before and and always love it. We got stuck on the side facing the office building across the way (perfect, if you’re an exhibitionist). Bed was comfy, however, it shook and vibrated (unintentionally, I’m sure?) We were in the 12th floor. Not sure why the bed shook so much.
- 5/5
This is a 5 star hotel. Self parking option is super convenient and extremely comfortable and beautiful room. Well maintained and very clean hotel without a doubt.
- 4/5
Room was a little tech-dated (no integrated USB ports) and deluxe king felt kinda small. A lot of noise at night from what sounded like drag racing on Michigan Ave. Bathroom was good size and comfortable. Bed was super comfy! Loved that there was peloton in the gym!
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
The room is big and clean. The stuffs were very kind.
- 5/5
Fantastic location…I was able to walk to just about everything.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. Spacious and clean rooms. Parking a bit on the high side tho. Excellent service. Beautiful outdoor patio with fire pit dining. Easy walk to everything…..Michigan Ave. Shopping and restaurants. Will definitely return
