Reviews
The hotel offers stunning views of the city and lake, with spacious and clean rooms. However, finding the hotel and navigating the elevators can be challenging. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, but there are some inconsistencies in service.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Very safe, very convenient, good breakfast provided and gorgeous views!

The view and location are good It is a little difficult when you parked your car then went to the lobby
- 5/5
Notes for improvement: The breakfast was okay (mainly pre packaged pastries) and a k cup coffee maker. Freshly brewed coffee would be nice. The beds were also a little too firm for our liking. Overall very nice though and a 8/10! We would return.

Starting off, the place is actually pretty nice inside. You are very high up so you have a nice view of the city from your room. There is security downstairs so you don't have much to worry about while in the hotel. The negatives however... The area surrounding the hotel isn't exactly safe. There are quite a few abandoned buildings nearby and lots of homeless people. The hotel makes an effort to try and nickle and dime you for everything as there isn't really many things provided to you. The things you normally see at other hotels such as maybe a bottle of water, disposable slippers or something...You have it in your room but if you open it, you will be charged.

- 5/5
The view was absolutely breathtaking, the staff was friendly, the room was spotless, and the hotel was very affordable. Will definitely stay here again. I have no complaints
- 0.5/5
this is not a hotel - it is a series of bedrooms off an uninviting corridor on the 40th floor of an office bloc, no proper reception, no facilities and the room was old, dirty, paint chipped, dreary and plain see the above - it was more like a prison block
- 3.5/5
Room and bathroom very spacious. Nice location as well. Tremendous view of the city. Breakfast with limited choices and fairly poor. They also charge everything, including 6 USD for using the slippers
- 5/5
Room was very quiet with a nice view of Lake Michigan. Continental breakfast had several items. Stuff was very helpful. The only negative thing was that the TV ran on apps so you had to make sure you knew your login for your Internet TV provider.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and patient! The beds were comfortable, the view was to die for, left the blinds rolled up at night to look at the view! The tub was a struggle to get into because of the width of the front of the tub. Housekeeping is not every day but they did accommodate that issue.

Great view from 40 floors up. A little weird entering a financial office building and getting up to the hotel floor. Perfect location for our urgent appointment at the Chicago Passport Center. Breakfast was a few pastries and cereal—not impressive. Our 16-year-old couldn’t use the gym as it is restricted to age 18+. I got parking in the attached garage for $25 on spot hero for 24 hours.

It was clean, big and the view was amazing! They charge for everything in the room including the slippers.

Proximity to Soldier Field. The room wasn’t spacious and had a clean, modern appearance. Getting from ramp to hotel was confusing due to incorrect signage. We arrived at 4:00pm and our room wasn’t ready. Building staff and hotel staff upon checkin weren’t overly friendly. Breakfast choices were not particularly plentiful.

Beautiful view of Chicago city, room was clean spacious and staff were great. Very nice and helpful and area was great with food places within walking distance. For future guest, only thing I can inform is price for parking is pretty high and breakfast was not all that. Besides that we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you to front desk Joel as well for helping book our second night.

Overall the hotel was great and we would definitely stay here again in the future. The room was very clean and spacious, the view was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful. As other reviews have mentioned the trek from the parking garage up to the hotel is a little of an adventure (3 elevators) but the staff along the way was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction so it was really not an issue. My only feedback was the bed was comfortable but sloped to the center. This was a great hotel for my husband and I and our 1.5 year old - lots of space in the room for her to run around and plenty of space for her pack-n-play setup. The location was right by a train stop so getting around the city with our 1.5 year old was fairly simple. Highly recommend!

Loved the lake view!!! Wish amenities were open on weekends and the hot tub was not in use. Steam room didn’t work in men’s area. Overall, room was clean and bed was comfortable! Thank you!!

- 5/5
Please keep this to yourself. This was a fantastic place to stay and I want to make sure I can get a room next time I'm in town. A short walk from the train station and central not only to the financial district but to everything downtown. The rooms are spacious with marble bathrooms large beeds and quiet hallways. These rooms were built for CEOs. If for no other reasons, stay for the 40th floor views. I can't wait to return.

The view was great, we got the lakeview upgrade complimentary and you could see the whole city. We really enjoyed it! Nothing. Hotel staff was good, location was good, quirky entrance but it feels secure.

Staff was awesome, room was clean. However, the $14 “resort fee” seemed excessive only because you don’t really get amenities. They did have a continental breakfast- but it was lack luster, with a few of the items being “blah”. We only stayed one night, and it was OK, but can’t say it will be at the top of my list next time we stay in the city.

Beautiful view and wonderful staff to boot! We got to town early but had called to ask if we could store our baggage. They went above and beyond to get a room ready for us when we arrived at the hotel at 11:00 am! Thank you to the front desk staff as well as the housekeepers.

Staff was friendly Ripped sheets on beds floor was a little dirty and bathroom had stains

Stunning views of the city. Close to many things. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and efficient. Loved that our vehicle was in a secured garage under the building. Totally worth the $40 for parking. All around great experience. Hard to find initially. Didn't see a sign on the outside of the building for the hotel.
- 5/5
staff was very kind and helpful. View was lovely.
- 5/5
The hotel was very nice and comfortable and the view from my room of the city was amazing! The Tv remote didn't work very well even after I changed the batteries, but that was about the only thing I had an issue with, other than that the stay was very nice and the folks at the front desk of the hotel were very nice and helpful.
- 5/5
The view; the bathtub (seriously!), the bed, the quiet, the location on the 40th floor, the staff --> pretty much everything was great. There was no option for live TV, which means I could not watch anything unless I signed into streaming services.
- 5/5
Perfect stay! The view was unbelievable! Staff was so helpful. Parking security was awesome! Room was super clean. Top notch. Ron was great giving us ideas for places to eat. I would def go back and stay here!

Big room, excellent view and staff are friendly. The down side.. no sign about toilet and we had issue, eventually they did fix it. Cleaning- need to ask for .. we did not know we need to ask, once it was cleaned but amenities were not fill out so we need to ask manually. Happy to stay but can be improved for better in the future.

We had a really hard time initially finding where the actual hotel was and the parking garage was slightly confusing But totally worth it. I love how secretive the hotel was and how no one would really know it’s there unless you’re staying there. This place was wonderful and we will absolutely be back.

This was the most amazing view of the city! The staff was incredibly helpful, continental breakfast was filling and plentiful, the facilities were clean, the water pressure was amazing, definitely will be coming back! The lack of instruction on how to get to the hotel was rough. But it was sorted with a few conversations with several people in the building helping.

It’s a bit of a maze to access the Hotel as it is part of an office building and you have to go through security clearance the first time you arrive

I was forced to go against my religious and personal ethics and beliefs. The only soap products (hand/face bar, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner) all contained animal derived ingredients. The products were made by Beekman and all contained goat's milk. When I called the front desk I was told there were zero alternatives. Late night on Thanksgiving left me no options to go out and buy soap.

- 5/5
Gorgeous and clean hotel! The staff was extra friendly and helpful--offered us the suite at the same price!! The views of the lake are extraordinary. The breakfast was underwhelming, but happy and cozy. Can't beat the location and the comfort!
- 4/5
Once we got into the hotel, everything was fine. It took alot of phone calls to find someone who could help us get from the parking garage into the hotel. Total lack of comunication on the hotel part. A simple sign with a phone number near the elevator in the parking garage wpuld have prevented alot of frustration
- 5/5
Would definitely go back

Everything was great, except the person for my check-in, seems that he was not really in the mood, and I felt I was bothering him more than anything else. But besides that, a perfect stay, the room was clean, amenities too, and the breakfast surprised me (in a good way) I was not expecting it.

A very spacious room with beautiful view of the Chicago skyline. Entrance can be tricky to find first time, inside 425 financial building and an elevator to the 39th floor then different elevator up to 40. Lovely little help yourself continental breakfast and easy location to get public transport or just walk around the downtown area.
- 5/5
Safe , clean & very secure.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel, worth it for the city views alone.
- 4/5
Nice hotel. Just didn't like that the pool was closed on the weekends and it closed early during the week. Should have had it opened the entire weekend for Chicago marathon. Would have helped with my recovery after the marathon. Other than that, the hotel was really nice.
- 5/5
The staff were exceptionally friendly and even upgraded my room to a lake view, which was a wonderful surprise. The room itself was impressively spacious, spotless, and quiet, with stunning views. I especially appreciated the sense of privacy it offered right in the heart of the city. The location is fantastic- just a pleasant 20-minute walk to Millennium Park and the lakefront. There are plenty of nearby options for a quick bite or morning coffee, and the hotel also provides a convenient grab-and-go breakfast. I did not have a use for parking facilities during my stay, so I am unable to speak to parking.
- 5/5
Everything has been good. Just hard to find where to park and then get in the actual building. Staff have been very friendly and helpful. Beautiful view of the lake.
- 5/5
Great room and comfortable night. I would call it a boutique hotel on the 40th floor with fantastic views of Chicago.
- 2/5
Not parking convince ,
- 3/5
Very displeased with perks of VIP. We did not get a room upgrade. We requested a 1pm checkout and it was denied. They presented like we were getting a free breakfast as a perk, but all guests got the free (bad) breakfast so NOT A PERK. The pool was closed on the weekends despite the listing saying in was open everyday except major holidays. It took 3 elevator transfers to get to the lap pool at the fitness club. It is not a pool for relaxing and hanging out as one would expect at a hotel. While it did not impact us, several other guests tried to take their children and were denied as it’s an 18+ pool, but not advertised on listing.
- 5/5
Like other reviews, it was hard to find. But...once you got up there it was fantastic. My new go to place in Chicago.
- 5/5
Very non-obvious where the hotel is, but very private, quiet, and excellent rooms.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
quiet clean good view
- 4/5
What they can add for a better stay is a mini fridge.
- 5/5
The room was clean and quiet. Very easy to access the hotel floor.
- 4/5
Disappointed there wasnt better coffee option in the morning breakfast offering. Only Keurigs. Not convenient to have to go out to find good coffee. Fresh brewed coffee seems like a must for a hotel so far up off the street, with not many close options.
- 4/5
Great views, kind of inconvenient. Parking is kind of expensive.
- 5/5
Beautiful room and view! Got back from a White Sox game and was able to see the Navy Pier fireworks from our room ❤️
- 4/5
The rooms are amazing high ceilings huge windows ton of space. I will go back here. The only downside is the amenities are very limited. You need to bring your own stuff food, drinks coffee etc.
- 4/5
Property was clean, staff was kind and courteous, location was convenient to put destination. Only issue I had was with lack of hotel signage. It was difficult to find hotel as there wasn't much signage
- 5/5
kindof hard to find from parking garage. it very nice room and good enough breakfast and close to several things
- 5/5
Great location, stunning views. Super clean, and fab service.
- 5/5
Nice property
- 4/5
The shower would be a problem for anyone who is shorter than 5’8”. It was a very large step up and over to get into the shower. Not recommended if you have any mobility issues or short legs.
- 5/5
Great location, 40th floor, nice views.
- 4/5
Did not like: no valet parking. Shower head old. No room service after 9. No lobby or lounge snacks. Pool over 18 only. Everything else was great
- 5/5
Beautiful View. Quiet and accommodating!
- 5/5
Great location, very clean, spacious, friendly staff.
- 5/5
Gorgeous views from the windows, comfy, bed, and beautiful big room. The shower – tub controls were very very difficult, and the breakfast was mediocre.
- 5/5
High-end rooms and great location in the south loop.
- 5/5
Close to almost anything in downtown Chicago. Only qualm is the somewhat odd entry thru an office building which requires a badge, take the elevator to the 39th floor, and then another elevator to the 40th floor. But it's worth the effort.
- 5/5
The view of the lake and city was incredible. Great customer service. Comfortable bed. Interesting route with multiple steps to get to the top floor but not a problem.

Suite is more spacious than shown in photos. Can’t say enough about the views. Super quiet and safe. Cool to get access to the athletic club. Did I mention the view? As others have mentioned, this is a hidden gem.

Next day, we decided to get the continental breakfast. VERY LIMITED options. Worst of all, the milk was SPOILED! The coffee was not even hot and it did not meet basic coffee standards. If this does not come included, just walk to Dunkin’ Donuts which is a 45 second walk away from the hotel. Not only that, the hotel charges you for any little thing. Just take your own snacks, the hotel was not cheap, but they made our experience not want to go back even with that view. Overall, it’s in a great area; just a 5-10 min walk from grant park. You have the metro nearby with easy access to the 290 expressway. There are many food options also a walk away. The view is great! Besides that, do not expect high amenities from the hotel. Additionally, if you’re staying the weekend, there is no gym available.
- 1/5
Not good

It’s like a secret spot to relax in the middle of corp America
- 4/5
If I could give this hotel 3 1/2 stars I would. It is kind of difficult to find the hotel, as it is in a building full of other offices. The actual hotel is only the top 2 floors of the hotel. The room we stayed in had a stunning city view that really made me appreciate the stay. The bathroom seemed outdated, especially the tub. Would I stay here again? Possibly but it would not be my first choice. Close to union station!
- 5/5
Loved everything about the hotel and staff very secure and in the heart of town easy access to everything awesome time in town for a concert will definitely stay here next time in chicago
- 5/5
From the time we arrived through checking out, both the building security staff and the hotel staff were amazing in every way! Always positive, polite, attentive, welcoming, and courteous. The building, hotel, and the room itself were immaculate. The amenities were wonderful. The view was breathtaking both day and night!!! This property and all of the staff are an absolute hidden gem!
- 5/5
This is a hidden gem - the property is on the 40th floor with great view. This is perfect for business or couples who want a quiet and low key environment.
- 5/5
Great view, love the suite a lot
- 4/5
They do not have cable tv, if want to watch anything you have to sign into your own online services.
- 5/5
We had a nice night, it was a little difficult to figure how to get in the building, but once we did, it was easy. We walked to a place a block away for a delicious breakfast and then walked 2 blocks to the train station to head home.
- 3/5
Nothing negative about The Buckingham itself, but a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT was that the pool was for only ages 18 and up. We came to Chicago for spring break with our 8yo daughter and promised her a pool. Pool is listed in the amenities with ZERO MENTION of age restriction. It's only when you check into your room that there's a small sign that says the pool is 18 and up. That really, really sucked. PLEASE help other families know this up front.
- 5/5
This hotel was so amazing! The building security went above and beyond and the front desk staff for both overnight and morning were friendly and very knowledgeable. Such amazing service and such a beautiful hotel. The view from the room was perfect of the city line!
- 5/5
It was very quiet, the customer service was outstanding. I was able to visit Chicago by walking because everything was near and I could walk to any destination. The parking was convenient and easy. I would definitely go back to this hotel.
- 5/5
Great stay! Great views, really! The train makes a lot of noise and we can hear from the room, but that’s not the hotel fault, but, in the future I’ll prefer some option without this disturbing recurring from every 15min 24/7 noise
- 4/5
Once inside, it was great. The initial part of parking and getting inside was a little confusing. I arrived in the PM and signs were not great on where to go. The hotel is on the 40th floor so you just don’t walk into a hotel lobby. But the staff and accommodations were perfect for a one night stay. Roomier than what I was expecting. The breakfast was a little lack luster.

- 5/5
Staff is so friendly also I had reserved a room with an AMAZING view. The staff was so accommodating very helpful :) If I can give this hotel a 10 Star rating I would :)
- 4/5
Prime location, friendly and accommodating staff. Unfortunately the pool is not open on weekends.
- 4/5
View was awesom
- 3/5
This is not so much a hotel as a converted private club. The staff was very kind and friendly. The room was clean but dated. There is no signage outside, which was disconcerting when I arrived in the Southloop on a Sunday night in a deserted area. My room was 50°, literally, when I went in, which was unpleasant on a cold Chicago evening and the television did not work. Breakfast was there but basically packaged baked goods and some oranges and apples. It was late when I arrived and so I did not complain. It was definitely functional for a one night business stay, but would definitely not stay there again.
- 5/5
The view of the city was SPECTACULAR! Within in walking distance to almost everything with public transportation available as well.

Great hotel. Water pressure on shower a bit strong for my liking. Staff very friendly. Safe with 24 hr security on main lobby.
- 5/5
Very secure - requires a badge for entry. Nice views from 40th floor. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Great location. Amazing view from 40th floor. Such a quiet hotel. Very secure. Will stay again.

Excellent stay. Clean rooms. Friendly staff!

The Buckingham is a great hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago.
- 5/5
This is my favorite Hotel. While the rooms are a bit dated, the view & luxuriousness make up for it.
- 3/5
Room was clean and bed was very nice. Parking was on the expensive side but we did have in and out access. Staff was rarely at the front desk so it was hard to get ahold of them. Our TV didn’t work the 3 days we stayed, we did mention it twice but no one fixed it. Shower also didn’t have a lot of warm water.
- 5/5
It was in a great location and just off the subway, so easy transport from airport to the place and also walkable.
- 5/5
Beautiful views of the city in a quiet, clean hotel. Great location. We will definitely go back!

Location was convenient

Checked in 2pm because that’s what the email said. But when we checked in we were told we could have checked in at 11am. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time because we were exhausted from traveling and had to kill time. Bed was comfortable, tub was large. Baseboards should be cleaned more frequently. Would stay again next time we’re in Chicago.

Great location

Beautiful views of the city and lake.
- 5/5
I loved the city view!

Hot water took over 20 mins to turn Luke warm even. Tv would not connect to any channels. Room was very basic only thing going for it was the view and location.

Great experience

The site manager was kind and helpful. He was quick to respond to our request (locked out/in, totally our fault) and also called me about a small bag my wife left in the room after checkout. I liked the suite and a twin bedroom next to each other so our family enjoyed connecting rooms like setting. Splendid views from 40th floor. A block to L trains as well as commuter trains to southwest of Chicago. I would like to stay there again on my next trip to Chicago on business or pleasure and would try their gym and swimming pool next time.

This hotel it’s located inside an office building all the way to the top floor! Views are amazing, not you’re typical hotel vibes, location it’s the main reason I stayed here, within 10 minutes of walking distance from DePaul University Center, which worked out great for my son’s moving into his dorm!

It would be helpful if your website had directions for those who are arriving from O’Hare via the blue line.
- 5/5
It was hard to find because the building is not properly branded for the hotel but our stay was wonderful. It was clean, great view and staff was very professional.
- 5/5
It was a great stay with a great view. The club ammenity was wonderful!
- 5/5
The hotel is very nice and quiet. It is very secure. The only downside is how difficult it is to actually get to the hotel. Once you get the hang of it, it does become much easier. There are multiple elevators involved and getting down to the parking garage is a bit of a hassle as well. The breakfast was a little disappointing. Just cold cereals and such. The bed was extremely comfortable, especially the pillows. Great toiletry products. The view was absolutely amazing. The only issue really was getting into the hotel for the very first time.
- 5/5
The view from your room on lakeside is worth the price alone.
- 5/5
We had a great stay. Our view was fantastic and the suite was huge and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Staying at this hotel is complicated slightly by the number of elevator transfers and key card swipes you need to make to access the hotel floor or reach the garage, but it's all worth it. The location is great, the rooms are secure, parking was plentiful and we would stay there again.
- 5/5
On the weekends its very quiet.
- 4/5
The bathroom tubs were very high and the tub seemed slippery when getting into the tub. Having to take the elevator to one floor and having to get off to take another one up another floor was a bit getting used to but afterwards it didn’t seem to be a problem.
- 4/5
Hard to locate. Unaware the hotel was actually located on the 40th floor. The hotel room was ok, the continental breakfast was k-pod coffee, which was in the room.
- 4/5
The facilities and room were clean and spacious. The employees were very personable and helpful.
- 5/5
Hotel was very accommodating changing my stay due to travel delays. Clean and comfortable and access to athletic club is great, nice gym
- 5/5
Beautiful views with a great location. Navigating through parking was a bit confusing, but we did our research. Come prepared and you will have an amazing stay.
- 5/5
This was definitely a different kind of Chicago hotel experience. It’s off the beaten path and to be honest, kind of hard to find. That said, it was clean, quiet, and extremely close to public transit.
- 4/5
Property was very clean. It was in a nice area. The property itself was amazing. The only thing for me was that their club is closed on weekends so no pool access if you are staying the weekend.
- 4/5
The health club was great. Breakfast was same old. Staff members were all suberb. .
- 5/5
The views were amazing!
- 5/5
Great service! Friendly staff! Highly recommend this hotel for travelers

Great staff
- 5/5
Front desk staff was excellent. Friendly, helpful, yet unobtrusive.
- 5/5
Very high end feeling, with beautiful wallcoverings, fabrics, and carpeting. Bed was wonderful. Out-of-place here, though, were the small, non-luxurious bath towels and cheap paper cups in the room.

ALERT The name of this hotel cannot be seen from the street and barely legible inside. Google has the address wrong. It is VERY hard to find this hotel. Once found it I s a typical deluxe hotel, on the 40th floor of an office building. My room waso looking North, great view of Chicago architecture. Located by the Loop and close to Union Station. I asked Expedia for free wi-fi almost my only filter. I paid for wifi. It didnt work. The TV had a few stations because most of the channels were HD which the hotel hadn't paid for.

Amazing room views and very friendly staff
- 5/5
The visit was so relaxing! The view had me up watching the sunrise, will stay plenty more times!
- 5/5
Very well-kept. Friendly staff. Quiet. Beautiful views. Nice breakfast supplies.
- 5/5
Perfect place, great view and super quaint
- 4/5
The suite we had was very nice. The room was amazing. The only downside about this property is you do have to get on at least three different elevators from the parking garage to the property but other than that it was pretty nice. Very quiet. Staff was very nice and helpful and another thing I do love about it. It is very secure.
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms and scenic views from the 40th floor
- 5/5
Love the excelente service, view and staff that was so helpful!!
- 5/5
Beautiful view and beautiful place to stay in
- 4/5
Clean but a bit outdated, close to USCIS office.
- 4/5
Great room in a surprising small single story hotel on the 40th floor of the building.
- 5/5
Beautiful, aesthetic rooms with a classic wood design. Very comfortable. Nice touches like actual marble sink top and porcelain faucets. Large tub. Impressive view of city from room and in breakfast area. Breakfast area has a multitude of options and is kept very clean. We will be returning to this gem again.
- 5/5
I highly recommend staying at the Buckingham Hotel. I’ve been to many different hotels throughout downtown chicago and this is the best by far. Staff is great, view is great, breakfast is great, parking in the same building so no need to walk outside, and you’re on the 40th floor. Couldn’t recommend a better hotel.

Great view from our room over Lake Michigan and the city.

👍

I really don’t appreciate being charged a ‘resort fee’ for a hotel with absolutely no amenities
- 5/5
Great location. Clean rooms. Fantastic views
- 5/5
I had a great time and would go back without a doubt.
- 5/5
When booking a room with a view on the lake.... You have indeed a lovely view in the lake and the sunrise. The gym has plenty of equipment in very good shape. The beds are very confortable.
- 5/5
Safe, quiet, beautiful views of the city and lake from the 40th floor
- 5/5
It was a great stay!
- 5/5
Really cool top floor hotel. Old school feel of class from back in the day. Great views of the city. From what i was told it used to be, there must have been some parties back in the day. Now a quite place to relax in the soak tub.
- 5/5
The view from this hotel was absolutely spectacular! I would stay here again for that reason alone. I hadn’t paid close attention when booking the property so I was a little confused in locating it but that was all on me. The room was clean and spacious and the staff was friendly.
