Great hotel, great location, fancy stuff that takes a minute to figure out. Great roof top bar, but no open bar downstairs, and then wanting to watch the NBA final, NO LIVE TV, unless you know all of your personal account logins and passwords. Very disappointing for an expensive night! Had a great argument with AI I am sure!!

This hotel is mostly contactless. The entry is vacant except for a staff member at the front. The valet was there when I arrived on Saturday evening but not the other 4 nights even though I was told I was paying for valet the entire stay. However, the hotel is beautifully decorated. The room was spacious and clean as well as comfortable. The rooftop bar is fabulous.

The Doyle used to be the Quirk, but due to the low/no human service model of this hotel I would not recommend it. The rooftop bar is great and I would highly recommend that. It’s separately owned and there are humans. It’s really difficult to be a top notch hotel with no staff. Service is what sets hotels apart. Parking is also a large problem. The hotel needs to lease or buy parking space and provide parking for guests (there is a valet service). It is really difficult to be a top notch hotel with no service. Perhaps you are just striving to be a 2.5 star hotel so that’s what I’ll give you. Also our room thermostat didn’t function properly.

Hotel run by AI. When things went wrong, frequently in 2 days, like code not working to enter our room, there was additional anxiety of where to find a human to help with an urgent need! The facility and rooftop restaurant were OK as was the Cafe. Warm living human beings running the place. The hotel's parking was difficult to arrange, again shortage of humans. There was no easy way to add parking for the 2nd day when the first 24 hours had passed. A couple hours of our precious time was wasted.

I love our spacious rooms. I love the location - walking distance to downtown, and UVA. Great coffee next door. Very quiet Lack of staff at the front desk, self parking is not free, requested 30 minutes late checkout but they were not flexible, even if the hotel is obviously not fully occupied.

The hotel is beautiful - sleek and chic! Great location and stellar staff. The rooftop bar and restaurant is my favorite place in Charlottesville. (The gluten-free pizza is FANTASTIC!). The rooms are nice, but there was mildew on the shower walls the last 2 times we stayed there. The gym has some broken equipment, but that won't stop us from coming back! The best value in the area.

Great staff.Kind, friendly, helpful. Very pretty hotel. Nice rooftop bar. Large rooms. Close to historical sites. Ladies, public bathroom was filthy absolutely dirty. I had to ask for body wash three times and did not receive it until my final day. Disability bathtub was not accessible, very dangerous. They made it work for me but still not good for people with mobility concerns.

This place has really gone downhill since it was the Quirk. Feels deserted. Staff is friendly but it’s so weird not to be able to order room service, charge coffee to your room, or even put lotion on after a shower. The text communication is hard to find. Just feels empty and weird.

Everything seems to be relatively clean and maintained. The roof top bar was very nice. The indoor bar, although fully set up, never opened Friday through Sunday. The staff that was on site was very nice, and helpful. The fact that there is no front desk makes reception and customer service feel very impersonal. The location is great. We were near many good restaurants and bars. I would stay here again.

It feels like you are in an abandoned hotel. It’s is more stripped down every time I come there. No art work at all in the back portion of the lobby. The lobby is creepy, at best, at night. The floors & hall rugs always look dirty, as do many of the walls in the lobby. The only reason we have stayed here the last couple of times is because of the price, but even that can’t make me stay there again-it is a shame what has become of this property.

The hotel is a very nice facility that is well located. Great rooftop restaurant and bar and adjoining coffee shop. My only issue is that the model is unclear: it’s got a high-end look but attempts to have a hands-off, all online check-in experience. It’s unclear if the people on the lobby are empowered front desk staff or security personnel.

Our king deluxe room was spacious, quiet, very clean, and had all the necessities one would expect. Although there was no physical check-in desk, there was an attendant at the door to direct us. When we needed a new tv remote, I texted the link provided and someone delivered it shortly. Our biggest concern was parking because the hotel has no parking available. However, therev is valet parking, which we used, so it all worked out.

I’d settled for room credit if I can’t get money back . Thanks so much Check in

The hotel poorly delivered on amenities. Upon arrival, our soap and body dispensers were empty, and did not get refilled during our stay even after requesting it. We were given small bottles of body wash after the cleaning company did not address our concern. The steamer in our room did not work, and we had to request a new one. I have stayed at The Doyle before, and it was a decent experience, yet for the price point, there needs to be more staff or direct service to address in the moment concerns.

Love the location and all the design elements from the previous owner/operator The minimal service model just not great and new operator clearly no investing in the property. It’s looking tired. Needs a touch up. Shower curtain in room barely long enough to reach rub. No toilet paper in the men’s room in the lobby. Staff is friendly and doing the best with what they’ve got but not sustainable. The Quirk used to be my number one choice but definitely going to try The Standard or the new Virginia guesthouse first because the rates at the quirk are not that much less and it just feels “neglected”. Roof top renter out but no bar downstairs as an alternative also lame.

Upon opening the door to our room, my first impression was the door was very marked up. we got inside and found a nice spacious room. Immediately it was clear that the walls were just as marked up as the front door. we tried to lower the sun shade and it didn’t work. per instructions, we sent a text and received no response. i went downstairs and talked to the one person working who told me someone would immediately be up to fix it. That didn’t happen. We then noticed there was popcorn all over the room that was never vacuumed up. we sent another text to no avail. i went back downstairs to the one person working and he looked at me as if we hadn’t just talked. it was never cleaned. Much to my surprise, the sun shade was fixed by the time we returned to dinner. the worker didn’t bring a ladder to the room and clearly used the sitting chair to stand upon to fix it. This is way over priced for what they delivered. The lobby and roof bar are beautiful however.

Needs work towards becoming automated check in. Directions for using for code is confusing as written. I booked 2 rooms but had to contact hotel to get check in info for 2nd room and code previse was the same as first room. Person working said the system knew 2 rooms couldn't have the same code but the humans behind the scene did not and signed the same code for 2 rooms. Hotel was fully booked due to Easter and major concert but rooftop bar was significantly understaffed. Bartenders seemed overwhelmed and we couldn't get someone to wait on us outside so had to go to the bar ourselves which made it worse on the bartenders. Finally got a server for our table if 8 - 4 couples. Asked her to split the bill by couple and she said she couldn't because it would mean she would have to figure out what each couple had. Air conditioner in room was not working properly, even after maintenance came. Room could not cool below 71. Breakfast is confusing... can have buffet or walk next door to order. No directions/options provided.

The hotel itself is very nice and very well located. We had several issues: 1) our AC was not working properly and it was 90 degrees during the day, which made for a hot night. They sent the maintenance guy to fix and he came in at midnight and was loud after I told the front desk my kids would be asleep. There was no shampoo in the shower, the shower had no hot water (found out several rooms complained of the same issue), and the shower diverter fell off into the tub as I turned (my cold) shower off. When I went to complain to the front desk, they said yeah that is bad you should complain to corporate. So there's clearly no empowerment to the management team to fix problems. We paid a lot and got a nice looking room with zero functionality. I would never go back.

This is a very nice stylish hotel, relatively new, and not really a boutique operation. There are some very nice original interior work by their architect. Overall it was very comfortable and convenient. As a guest, however, you need to write the hotel and provide them with your cell phone number or you want be able to check in. It’s all done digitally and efficiently, but without the link that they’ll send you you will not have a room to enter when you get there. This is a bit of a hassle, but it worked so well once I got the link that I forgave them all the uncertainty that it caused for me and wound up giving them a 5 star rating. The cafe next door is also very good.

This hotel that prides itself on technology is a disaster. First room they put me in’s television didn’t work. Next day they moved me to another room because they couldn’t get the TV working and new rooms safe didn’t work. So for remainder of my two days I had to keep my valuables on me at all times. I had to call their service line numerous times to get any assistance at all as the staff onsite seemed near useless. As I was moving my stuff from one room to the next they changed the code to open the first room (even though I asked them to not do that until all my belongings were moved - it took several trips) and at that point I had to hunt down someone to open the door on the first room yet again. Last night one of the elevators would not go to second floor so I had to get someone to override the elevator. Once I got to my room on second floor the new rooms code entry pad was dead. So I had to go back down to get someone to open up the room. At which time a manager type came up with me with his laptop and informed me it wasn’t working probably because I was going to the wrong room (his system told him I was supposed to be in the original room I had moved from). When I explained everything and told him to talk to me rather than look at his screen he seemed to get confused. Ultimately he could not open the door without tracking down a master analog key that was downstairs somewhere. At that point he opened the door of the room and exclaimed “the room is dirty” - out of room …

When I explained everything and told him to talk to me rather than look at his screen he seemed to get confused. Ultimately he could not open the door without tracking down a master analog key that was downstairs somewhere. At that point he opened the door of the room and exclaimed “the room is dirty” - out of room …

This place is cheap normally(relative to Omni/Residence Inn) and in close distance to the old town, there is nearby street parking(2 hour limit 8-5 or 8-6 pm). I didn't have to pay for parking because I arrived at 4 pm, and checked out shortly after 10 am. The restaurant across the street called Black Cow Chophouse is great, and has a reasonable happy hour menu.

Room was clean and quiet, my email directions on unlocking the room door were incomplete- it said to use a hashtag following the code and there was no hashtag on the door lock! Finally tried other symbols and the check mark worked. The water did not heat up the first night so had to wash up with cold water. It worked the last day thankfully. Staff very friendly but not always around.

Additionally, our hotel room was not very clean - dirty tiles and grout in our bathroom, and the coffee maker was too dirty to use. Our friends staying in a different room had a balcony with a door that did not lock or latch, and their heat could not keep up. Overall we were very disappointed, we will not be returning, and we would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was decent as far as the look. There was no parking on site and no one for valet when we arrived so we had to park 2 blocks away. No biggie but with there being no front desk there was no one there that had any info on a safe place to park. Our room was ok but definitely not as clean as it could’ve been. There were stains on get couch and hair all over the back of the bed near the head board. The heat would not go above 65 so it was pretty cold all night and the balcony door wouldn’t lock. But to top it off, we were traveling with friends for my wifes birthday and they ended up getting locked out of their room at midnight due to the batteries dying on their keypad. They were informed by someone with the phone number provided to call with issues that they could not get in touch with maintenance to get them in their room but they could get another room. All of their belongings were locked in that room so that wasn’t acceptable. Finally they talked with maintenance and able to get in after about 30 minutes. They requested some sort of compensation for the inconvenience and were given a $15 credit. Pretty ridiculous but we were informed by an employee that they are currently trying to sell the property so I guess whoever runs this place right now do not care about guests returning.

I understand a winter storm came a week before, but we couldn't even open the door for balcony we paid for. There was no communication or updates regarding this. So pretty disappointing when it is supposed to be a "luxury" hotel. The remote management team did not try to even help the situation. Kinda like having a group of people manage something and they dont know customer service. Now, the manager that was on site, he actually tried to make things better. I give him that. But the actual management team is horrible This was supposed to be something special for my wife since I'm gone all the time due to career and was completely disappointed by this.

The lack of front desk / staff is a bit eerie. The lobby, bar & restaurant were completely empty even at the dinner hour, which made me decide to dine elsewhere rather than on the property. Despite the lack of hosting staff, inquiries sent to the hotel phone number were answered promptly via text. The hot water in both sink & shower was barely lukewarm, which was a huge minus for my experience.

In most circumstances, the virtual front desk probably works fine (check in and check out were easy), but we requested a few extra blankets our first night and were told that wouldn't be a problem. An hour later, I checked the status and was told that everyone had gone home and we could get the blankets the next day. Additionally, upon inquiring about where we could get bottled water, I was pointed to nearby convenience stores. If you think about this spot as an apartment or condo rental, you'll be fine! And bring water and blankets!

The Doyle hotel’s downstairs is very beautiful and modern. Our room was very spacious although if we wanted our room cleaned, we had to pay for it!! also many parts of the day there was downstairs at all to help us. No one working to be found. There was one guy and he would just walk out the front door and be gone and then reappear hours later. No wonder they are selling the hotel again. Our bathroom floor was not clean and the wall behind the toilet had to be cleaned. It was dirty.

The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars is because of the location and parking; the hotel is hard to spot because the building is thin and doesn't have a sign. There is also no parking. No street parking, no parking lot which would not be a problem if they had complimentary valet, but they don't. Valet was $25 a day which was an unexpected expense and honeslty very inconvenient as my handicap mother and infant daughter (3 months old) were traveling with me.

There’s also what appears to be a frat Christmas party with over a hundred young college students happening in the lobby which has made it impossible to use the amenities on the main lobby. The room itself has several maintenance issues: the bathroom door doesn’t fully close, the toilet paper holder is coming off the wall, and there are random marks on the back of the door. The walls are very, very thin so you can hear any activity in the hall. On a positive note, the shower pressure was nice and the bed was comfortable. Overall, a very disappointing experience aside from the restaurant staff and the holiday decor in the restaurant.

We wanted to like this hotel. From the start I was not happy with the 100% virtual communication and providing my ID and photo via software. The parking was two blocks away and the code entry info was confusing. To make matters worse, my young son got sick during the first night of our two night stay and could not make it to the bathroom before he vomited in the floor. We cleaned up as best we could, advised the management the next morning, and requested a room cleaning for anytime that day. The person I was in contact with via text told us that we could only request a room cleaning a day in advance and for a $60 charge. Yes, I understand this was in the "fine print" but this is an unexpected and unfortunate circumstance that any reputable business should help you through. As of the next afternoon, we have gotten no help from the management except some extra towels. Not a vaccum, carpet cleaning spray, nothing. We are left with no option except to prop our door open to help dissipate the smell while we try to comfort our sick child. Its incredible that you get no level of customer care in an unfortunate situation for the premium cost of this room. If you're reading this review I would highly recommend sticking with Hilton or Marriott options. They may not be boutique options, but they will offer help and customer care commensurate with the price.

This is a strange hotel. Checkins are done remotely, which is fine, but if you run into an issue, as we did, and a friend traveling with us did, it's difficult to get assistance. Staff in the cafe were lovely, and the common space at the hotel was really nice. Our room was not cleaned to our expectations, including used sheets shoved in a closet. Overall the hotel met our needs, but I'm not sure I'd book again.

The hotel was minimal staff and self check in/out on line. For an old baby boomer I prefer a fully human staffed facility. Not sure I would have booked the hotel. Luckily I found a human in the lobby who helped me. When we left, the valet was nowhere to be found. Had to walk to the car. Hotel manager was unhappy and told me he would refund the parking cost. The room was clean, and the maid staff were helpful and sympathetic to the problem of merely entering the room assigned to me. To add insult to injury, on a Friday, a screaming toddler woke me up at 5am, and it wasn’t either of the adjacent rooms - so I’m not sure I could recommend this high-tech hotel in terms of comfort and service. It will probably take some time to work out the kinks - having NO formal front desk to assist guests with problems just exacerbates resolution to almost anything.

The hotel itself was lovely. The rooftop dining/bar was wonderful! Conveniently located. I didn’t like that the parking was in this random lot across the train tracks. Also check in was with a QR code and I had to download my license and take a selfie which I found annoying since there was a human being right there to check me in. Why the lack of human contact. Other than that the hotel was lovely.

One of the worst experiences in a hotel I've ever had. We were checked into an occupied room, we were told our reservation had been changed to one night and it hadn't and a manager is nowhere to be found (even days after we left). Our room stank and there was no hot water. I would recommend this hotel to others UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES. Any other hotel would be preferable.

Everything here is done electronic. There’s no front desk, so you check in online. The hotel is downtown Charlottesville so there is no parking at the hotel. There’s valet parking and self service parking lots. The hotel is very modern and pretty inside. I had a room with two queen beds and a balcony. For the price, it’s great. Hotel is very clean and comfortable. While it could be noisy downstairs, the rooms are very quiet. Would definitely recommend! Only one con: checkin is not until 4 pm. Since it’s ysyallt busy in Charlottesville, it’s difficult to get an early check in. Customer service is excellent!

Had to call 911 (eventually emergency was resolved). Shades in window did not cover full window so marking daylight woke me up.

Was given a comp upgrade to a balcony room but upon arrival to the hotel didn't get the promised upgrade. That was disappointing. The Doyle is lovely. The bed is great, the amenities and cleanliness great. I don't use a smartphone, I use a flip-phone and the check-in/check-out procedure demands a smartphone (or you have to find a human, which is occasionally hard). The posted checkout time is 12 (on the back of the door) but the actual checkout time is 11, which you only find out through the QR code. There are little glitchy things like that in what wants to be a seamless process that just isn't (and shouldn't be automated, in my view, should be human-driven). But that's my only thought about the Doyle, it's a lovely place.

This hotel is aesthetically pleasing - it's quite stylish. I get the concept that it offers a chic experience at a low cost because the guest does not have human interaction. So, that was nice. I probably won't stay again though. My in-room coffee maker only had de-caf (which I discovered at 5:30am when I wanted coffee) and there was no front desk to remedy that. I was unable to figure out the lockers even though I found the directions with the QR code. No one was there to help and when I did finally track an employee, she couldn't help nor find someone else. The only parking is valet (which is weird because everything else is self service) and it was expensive. The room felt clean, but there were traces of mold in the shower and the paint needs a re-touch in the room and hall. It was a lovely room, But I am not coming to hang in my lovely hotel room. More service and attention to detail would be worth a small uptick in price (Gosh, I would have paid $20 for a non-decaf coffee!-

Our room we booked and paid extra for with a very nice outdoor space balcony got downgraded. Instead of upgrading us they downgraded us. We waited two hours for them to move us to a different room and it was the exact same room they had put us in when we got there. So the virtual team really let us down.

Hi! Decided to head to Charlottesville for a long weekend with my girlfriend and chose to stay at The Doyle. We had a great time exploring the city and enjoying the property, but we did run into a hiccup when the AC in our room completely went out. We had to switch to another room, which wasn’t ideal since the original room was much larger (though admittedly much hotter). Overall, we enjoyed the stay, but losing AC in the middle of summer definitely put a damper on things.

The check in process was quite strange. No front desk and a young man sitting on the sofa when I arrived with a laptop to check me in. He handed me a piece of paper with a code for my room. Never asked for my ID. He did walk me to my room, which was nice. The room was very simple, which is fine. But the shower had hair on the walls from the previous guest. The cafe in the morning was very nice and polite. I know this hotel just changed ownership, but small details will make or break a stay

The A/C was inoperable. I turned the set point down and keep the shades closed for the entirely of my stay to help with the heat, but the room never cooled below 70 which made sleeping difficult. We picked the Doyle for its location; this was a one night stop on a longer vaca, and it was perfect. Toured Monticello then checked in here and walked to Belmont and the downtown mall for dinner and ice cream. Another short walk in the AM for brunch and a stroll thru UVa campus before we left. Clean, accessible (online check-in provides you access code to front door, elevator, room), friendly staff. Roof top restaurant plus couple other restaurants/bar lobby level. Good communication. Would just add water bottles to room, even if for extra cost. Ps: housekeeping is available but at an extra cost and must be requested. This will most likely be our go to hotel when visiting our daughter.

The rooms are minimalist, efficient. Without a full time staff working on cleaning the property; the musty smells on each floor and cleanliness of the downstairs bathrooms is lacking. The tall ceilings and flow of the lobby is welcoming; granted the inexpensive furniture is showing signs of age. A lobby host vs a front desk was especially helpful when there was a neighborhood wide power outage for an hour+. Great text communication John Michael :) The star feature of this property is rooftop- massive. Excellent venue to watch fireworks or the sunset. The area is walkable to the outdoor "mall" featuring restaurants, music venues, etc. Do not recommend this property if you are in town to attend a UVA game; the facilities are a 10+ minute drive. Plan to Valet, nearby parking did not allow for overnight options. Disappointed to see a college town with the infrastructure for cycling and almost no access to hourly rentals? The Doyle does not have property bikes available to check out. The Doyle lacks frills and needs a soft goods/deep clean renovation. The property is much larger than it appears at first glance; potential to be great...The Doyle is average.

As an architect educator it was an experience to stay in a well-designed modern hotel, by I believe an European architect whose name was unfortuntely not known by the staff. The hotel rooms are agin well laid out, spacious with equally well-detailed set of furnishing. I believe that this is one of the best contemporary designed hotels in Virginia. The contactless check-in and service made me feel that the place, while stylish, was sterile. It was a rainy day, and I was staying there due to a family emergency. I ate dinner in the rooftop bar, which would be nicer on a beautiful evening, but was very loud and understaffed. The salad was delicious, however. First, we lost power during the visit. Not their fault, but a little annoying. My main issue is their lack of a front desk person or anyone to take a call on property. It’s all done remotely. Which is fine as long as someone still answers the phone on site. I had to call about a lost and found item and sat on hold for 20+ minutes. That is wild! As a hotel owner myself I could NEVER let a guest sit on hold for so long. At least get a phone number and call them back. I guess my item, even if at the property, is lost for good because there is no way I could sit on hold for so long.

We had a problem with the A/C in room #323, It was too warm. We asked to have it looked at. We were away from our room all day and no one looked at it. We got back and we contacted you guys again at the phone number provided. The desk guy came up and looked at it and did nothing more than mess with the thermostat, which we had already tried. It still did not work. He told us he was going to move us to #422. We had a dinner reservation so he said he would check to make sure the A/C worked in that room while we were gone. We came back at least 1.5 hours later. That room was warmer than room #323. Obviously he had not checked to make sure it was an improvement. So he contacted management about moving us to another room and we moved, again, to room #205. Finally, the room was cooled and the A/C was working. He showed no initiative to help us without us constantly controlling the situation. He never helped us make the 2 moves by providing a luggage cart or any other solutions. We felt as though he was trying to make the issue "go away" for him and was not concerned about solving the problem for us. On a positive note, the Valet, Cain, was very friendly and helpful to us, even called us by name when we dropped off or picked up our car from the valet service.

That was the last straw. We requested a replacement since the one in the room was broken. We waited and waited. No one delivered and even after asking again - crickets. Don’t stay here.

The Doyle is immaculately clean and bright. Our room was fabulous and very comfortable. The only thing to comment on was there was a fraternity formal at the hotel the night we stayed. The hotel was busy with college students drinking and when we came back to the hotel at the end of the evening and were looking forward to a drink at the bar, we were told there was 45 minute wait at the bar and told by the hostess to go somewhere else. We would likely stay again if we are in Charlottesville, but hopefully the service staff will have improved their customer service.

Disaster stay. Nobody was working at the hotel as it is a digital hotel. Nobody at the front desk and nobody to assist in any way. The rooms were dirty and had not been cleaned and there was food rotting in the fridge. We had a suite and a pull out bed but they did not have sheets or blankets and nobody was able to assist us to get the bedding. Stay away!

Internet didn’t work, no housekeeping unless you wanted to pay for it, one of the elevators was broken, never saw any staff, no tv/cable unless you wanted to sign in to your own apps, and overall rooms were fine but not great.

The decor was cool, but not our favorite. Lighting could be better.

Has more of an Airbnb vibe than hotel. Service is limited. The area around the hotel though offers a good selection of restaurants.

The modern space was lovely but the empty white lobby walls feel sterile and in need of more art. Our room was very nice and comfy but the open shower concept left the floor soaked and reminded us of a ymca or a nursing home. Super friendly staff and excellent food and cocktails at the bar. Unfortunately we picked it because of the rooftop bar with views of the city and were disappointed to find it closed.

issue with check in code for elevator and room. After checking with reception, it appears that code was "paused".

A couple things of note for future travelers: first, the tv has Roku but you need to sign into your personal subscriptions for Hulu, Netflix, etc. there isn’t any default service. Second, the lighting could be better in the room and bath. Neither were as bright as they should have been. Not a big deal, just something that would have made it better. Third, parking is about 100 yards from the hotel in a “pay for parking” lot. It didn’t bother us and they do offer valet service if you need it. All in all it was a good stay.

They checked me into a room that was currently being used which led to an awkward situation, but they quickly fixed it. However, you have to call an 800 number to fix it and they do everything remotely but other than that everything was fine and clean.

Everything about the hotel was fine but the number of emails and texts and requests for information and check in and check out and reviews and on and on was exhausting and frankly annoying.
