Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, as well as the friendly and helpful staff. However, there are frequent complaints about the hotel's aging infrastructure and need for updates, particularly in the bathrooms. Some guests also express dissatisfaction with the breakfast offerings and the lack of recycling bins.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated infrastructure and need for updates
- Limited breakfast offerings
- 5/5
Good price, comfy beds, quiet and updated rooms, right near Monticello and downtown, yummy breakfast (real eggs and crispy bacon). The night manager even let us change rooms because our room was stuffy from the air conditioner turned off. She (Gloria) even came up to check on our new room. Where else does someone go out of their way to satisfy? I would stay here again and go again to Thai Cuisine and Noodles (best thai food anywhere).
- 4/5
I was pleasantly surprised. I honestly hadn't paid any attention to it being an actual hotel bc of the odd location, but I just needed a mini overnight getaway and this was perfect. Super close to home, clean and inexpensive. I'd stay again. Note that the air conditioning unit is super loud!
- 4/5
They have a small gym next to the pool that we did not use. We enjoyed being in the indoor pool for a bit; they have towels there that you can use. We were excited to use the hot tub, so we were bummed that it was not open. It seemed it was being cleaned out or something. The free breakfast was great, with delicious make-your-own waffles, fruits, and coffee. They had a wide variety of food items. Overall, our stay was pretty comfortable and excellent. The only downside was the unexpectedly non-functioning hot tub. Other than that, I highly recommend this place!
- 4/5
Clean room, staff was ok, hot tub was broken and pool was cold
- 4/5
A great location if you’re visiting Monticello or the James Madison estate and a decent value, though some parts of the building appear a bit tired. A very friendly, helpful and wanting to please front desk staff.
- 2/5
Room was dirty and beat up. Would not recommend.
- 3/5
. I didn't even want to touch the existing ones.
- 3.5/5
A bit outdated. Was charged more than double the normal rate because UVA had their graduation going on.?Definitely not worth that price!
- 3/5
Adequate accommodation for 1 night The room should have been cleaned more thoroughly. I found multiple long dark hairs in the shower and stains on the coverlet. I'm not sure if it was dirty or stained, but it was disgusting either way.
- 5/5
The room was clean, the staff were very friendly. They have a waffle maker in the breakfast room! Also, fresh coffee 24/7!
- 3.5/5
Practical right out of the highway and close to downtown Charlottesville. Noisy AC and we could not open the windows! Coffee machine in the room not functioning.
- 5/5
That the hot tub was not working & the water in the pool was cold.
- 3.5/5
Close to UVA and affordable, comfy beds
- 5/5
Front desk staff were very helpful and kind.
- 5/5
Always a clean comfortable place to stay after dr visits at UVA
- 5/5
Front desk was super friendly and helpful
- 4/5
The hotel and room were well cared for and clean, however the room smelled musty, probably because of an older rug or maybe pet situation. Otherwise it was a fine stay.
- 3/5
Accessible rooms are questionable - converted but not well thought out. Nice to have complimentary breakfast, hot items replenished timely.
- 4/5
Clean friendly good location
- 3.5/5
Property could use an upgrade
- 4/5
Easy patking , clean room and very nice staff
- 5/5
Breakfast was great room was nice and clean but the bathroom had a small leak in the sink not too bad

- 1.5/5
Location Filthy everything, small pool, whirlpool had no water, thin sheets, broken microwave, extremely uncomfortable beds
- 3/5
The property itself feels dark, drab, and in need of a modern refresh. For the price, the room lacked basic comforts—specifically a cozy chair—and the "quiet" reputation didn't hold up, as thin walls meant I could clearly hear the guest next door snoring. Given the cost, it felt overpriced for the quality provided.
- 4/5
Great value, great location.
- 4/5
Easy to get to with friendly staff. There was plenty of parking. There is coffee and tea available in the lobby and hot breakfast in the morning with reasonable hours. The room was standard. There was a piece of carpet cut out near the tv that was then place back. Kind of distracting.
- 3.5/5
The room was clean and quiet. Hotel in general is about to need an update. The bed was a little soft.
- 2.5/5
This hotel could use some upgrades. It is tired and needs some TLC.
- 3.5/5
Breakfast was fine & well-stocked & the coffee was a good roast. The staff was helpful & friendly. Nice big bathrooms in room The beds were uncomfortable & lumpy. Hard to move around in them. The rooms should have more than one chair & one clothes drawer.
- 5/5
The stoppers in the sink and tub were messed up.
- 2/5
Great location for where we needed to be Doors constantly slamming through the night, and early morning. Some were guest and others housekeeping not being considerate of guest still trying to sleep. Beds not comfortable at all.
- 3/5
Breakfast was limited but good enough. The room smelled bad probably from the dirty carpet. The sink was not draining at first but the staff attended to it immediately. There were enough parking spaces.
- 4/5
Front desk staff was great! Room was big and nice
- 2/5
Sleep inn should be ashamed! From the moment we walked in I knew it was going to be bad. Overcompensating floral scent in the lobby, room smelled old, musty and dusty. Windows looked like it was cleaned with dog slobber (all streaky and dirty) outdated and dirty furniture. Bed was hard. When we got back from the concert there was a cockroach in the bathroom. We had the front desk come up to kill it. They came prepared like it wasn’t their first time and didn’t even apologize. Would not have paid $60 to stay here let alone the $340 charged. Absolutely AWFUL
- 2/5
Very dated and needs property improvements
- 2/5
Room absolutely smelled like an ashtray. Pool was closed and that was one of the main reasons we picked this hotel so the kids could do some swimming.
- 2.5/5
Old and smelled
- 4.5/5
Everything was great!
- 4/5
Breakfast wasn’t great. Excellent staff. Clean room.
- 2/5
Excellent front desk staff. First room we were given was gross. Hairs and stains all over the mattress pad, did not look like it had been washed in months. Second room was better, but there was what appeared to be blood on the duvet. Will not stay here again.
- 4/5
Front desk was extremely friendly and helpful.
- 1.5/5
Location, well priced for the area Very worn, while “cleaned”, carpet and bed frames needed attention
- 4/5
The pool was close
- 4/5
The indoor pool is out of order for the indefinite future (expected never to reopen), so it’s now just a big pond behind a window. It should not be listed as an amenity.
- 4/5
Clean and comfy! Close to UVA medical.
- 5/5
The staff was super friendly The room was super clean I had asked for an extended stay and I'm staying again another night and I told them they didn't have to clean the room if they didn't want to and they were super nice and the cleaning staff did it anyway so it was really nice to come in from a really long day at work to a nice clean hotel room
- 5/5
Its very nice place. More space for wheelchairs to get around in room.
- 5/5
I did not use either.
- 5/5
Very clean. Nice staff. Centrally located without being downtown
- 3/5
Room was fine. Staff was polite. The whole 3rd floor reeked of weed from check in till early morning
- 4/5
The room was ok. Staff was very friendly. They need to clean the ice machine though. Breakfast was good!
- 5/5
Everything was clean and the staff were all very friendly and helpful,The breakfast was good and coffee was excellent. I enjoyed the tea selection.
- 5/5
Breakfast good
- 5/5

- 5/5
Clean and lovely. Pretty good location. Free breakfast had bacon!
- 3/5
Staff was friendly and breakfast good. Vending machines were outdated, unable to use credit card in them
- 5/5
The room is spotless, check-in was flawless. This is what you want from a hotel that appeals to business travelers.
- 3/5
The hot tub wasn’t working and that’s the only reason I chose the hotel. Very upsetting
- 5/5
Clean, friendly, nice breakfast overall good stay and would stay again.
- 4/5
Friendly staff however, the hot tub was not operational yet it is still advertised as an operational amenity.
- 4/5
Unfortunately, we also got placed next to a very loud and inconsiderate group who had several rooms and they were yelling and making a lot of noise from about 1 am til nearly 3 am. The breakfast was adequate and area clean, as well as the pool (hot tub was out of order), but I would not choose to stay at this location again. Perhaps we just had an isolated incident, but there are too many other options and if done again, I'd choose another location.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 3/5
I switched rooms 3 times as there were blood stains and large yellow stains on the mattress and sheets.
- 5/5
Nice staff
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
Clean, fresh and updated. Comfortable bed and great shower water pressure. Didn't take advantage of the breakfast but it smelled great!
- 4/5
Staff was nice, room was clean. The hot tub was not running and we were told at check-in that it had not been running for months. Unfortunately, we chose this hotel because it had a hot tub. Would have been nice to have had that noted on the website when we were searching for a place to stay - I did not check the hotel's actual website, only Hotels.com. Real bummer.
- 5/5
courteous staff
- 5/5
I enjoy the staff and respectfulness of how the maintain the building and the housekeepers very sweet and breakfast AMAZING!
- 5/5
Room was very nice. Convenient to my event.
- 3/5
I was so looking forward to the handheld shower. I was just a trickle. The room smelled very musty and despite using air freshener, it still smelled bad.
- 2/5
Dirty
- 3/5
The room smelled like dog and 1 of the beds was not comfortable
- 5/5
Everything was great, I have no complaints! Thank you
- 3/5
Facility was decent however it was not very clean. The bathroom in our room had messy walls (some streaks down the walls) the furniture was ok but appeared to be close to replacement. Staff was friendly and accommodating and the location was good. I suspect the room cost was higher due to the UVa Football game that weekend. To be honest I expected a little more at that price.

Great staff! Generally solid room for the price. Will be back.
- 5/5
Great service. Friendly staff. Convenient to UVA.
- 4/5
Clean, comfortable and convenient, but the hot tub was drained and unusable.
- 2/5
High price, low quality - stay somewhere else
- 5/5
Staff is amazing
- 5/5
The staff are fantastic and helped us with a number of unusual requests as we prepared for a wedding.

- 4/5
Room was spacious and par for this level of Hotel.
- 5/5
Quiet clean modern room and friendly staff. I alway stay here when in the area
- 5/5
Clean room, excellent breakfast!
- 2/5
the bed was very uncomfortable and very small
- 4/5
It’s a fine budget hotel. Nothing fancy, good for a place to spend a night.
- 5/5
Check in was great, quick and easy. Beds were comfy. Breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Good property
- 5/5
From the moment we checked in until we left was great. Front desk was so kind and very helpful, our room was clean and very spacious, the bed was very comfortable. Coffee and food was very good and well kept up

I did not partake of the breakfast, but my friends sai
- 5/5
The sleep Inn was very clean, very pleasant staff. The room was great especially the beds, pillows and linens. I would happily stay again!
- 3/5
I was shocked at $40 dollars in taxes added to my bill and that for a $200 dollar room, there were spots on the carpet, yellow and cracked caulking in the bathroom with scratches in the tub that were rusting. This hotel has seen better days.
- 4/5
Not easy to get to surrounding eateries without doing u-turns. The lobby area had a very perfumey smell. The room was very small, but clean.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 4/5
The service of the staff was super friendly. However the beds were terrible. Kept waking up in from pain and having to switch positions the beds were so hard. The pillows are super nice though!
- 5/5
Receptionist Gloria was exceptional!
- 4/5
Convenience
- 5/5
Everything was great. Excellent parking and clean, comfortable room.
- 5/5
Sleep Inn was perfect for our trip into Charlottesville for a football game. It is convenient to the interstate and a quick drive into town to visit The Mall or shopping destinations. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

- 5/5
This stay was the best we have had in years, quiet, clean, and the staff super friendly!
- 5/5
Clean, comfortable room, breakfast was good. Just in town one night to see a concert.
- 5/5
The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was helpful and courteous.
- 4/5
Concierge was nice and accommodating. Only con was one incident with a roach in the bathroom.
- 4/5
Room was clean and spacious. Free breakfast was a bonus we didn’t expect, but enjoyed. Free coffee and tea at check in was nice also. Would recommend. Very close to campus and food options
- 4/5
Bad - musty rooms, dusty fixtures, stained carpets, thin walls
- 3/5
The bathroom didn't have an exhaust fan so when you showered it steamed badly, but the breakfast was very good!
- 4/5
Comfortable, reasonable price. A bit noisy from rooms above, but that may have just been due to noisy, rambunctious people,
- 4/5
Front desk staff was excellent. Hotel was fine (with the exception of the flooring nail laying in the middle of the carpet). Breakfast was decent. I'd stay here again. Price was great!
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. Rooms were quiet and beds were comfortable.
- 5/5
Everything was lovely
- 4/5
It was great for a quick overnighter. Nothing too fancy. The staff was super friendly.

- 4/5
Location excellent pool. A little small but nice hot tub. Great breakfast was always on point staff. Remarkable wonderful, wonderful people
- 5/5
Very nice location. Easy to get to the airport. Truly enjoy the staff and the room was very nice
- 5/5
Very comfortable beds, nice and quiet, perfect for a good night's sleep! Full breakfast and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Easy check-in, comfortable room, close to the wineries.
- 4/5
Clean, nice area. Towels at pool. Hot tub not working, main reason for booking.
- 5/5
Very good! The staff is very friendly and had excellent suggestions for restaurants.
- 4/5
So far so good
- 5/5
Great stay. Good value
- 5/5
Love
- 4/5
It was fine for the price.
- 4/5
Convenient location.
- 5/5
There was no air in the elevator or hallways. Otherwise a very nice hotel.
- 4/5
I would say the bed was a medium comfort level. Although not having to pay a deposit on top of the room cost and the free coffee and hot chocolate at the entrance mad up for it. Also the staff was super helpful and friendly. I felt way more welcomed then I did down the road at the holiday inn where they charge a $50 deposit EVERY night you stay on top of the room cost.
- 3/5
Basic, average corporate budget hotel, in good condition and close to Monticello and UVA.
- 4/5
every thing was great even the breakfast staff was very helpful
- 5/5
Breakfast was great
- 4/5
We were only there for thr night so it is hsrder to rate. We did use rhe pool, the coffee machine and of course the lucurybedding.
- 5/5
My family and I always stay here whenever we go to Charlottesville. Always happy with my stay!
- 5/5
I would stay again perfect except hot tub don’t work breakfast awesome
- 5/5
Thank y’all!
- 4/5
Reasonably priced motel including pool and breakfast
- 5/5
Very clean. Great service.
- 1/5
The toilet ran constantly. I left in the back of it and there was a towel stuck inside of it. The carpet needs to be replaced. I put towels out on the floor so I didn’t have to step on it. It was so disgusting. The staff was very nice but the owners of the hotel have a lot of work to do.
- 5/5
Gloria at the front is a wonderful hostess! She took good care of us during our stay. Good location for a visit to Monticello or other attractions in the area. Easy to get to UVA or the Downtown Mall. Breakfast was good. 24 hour coffee is a nice touch. Pool was clean. Good value all around!
- 3/5
Needs updates with bathroom, furniture, the decor Quick night stay, it accommodates but not for vacations or anything other than a quick night stay
- 3/5
Quiet facilities overall. Breakfast was what you would expect. Ice machines weren't working when we were there, despite insistence that they were. Perhaps it was a fluke. I would stay here again.
- 2/5
The lobby was nice and we could tell there were things that had been updated. But many areas like the hallways and doors felt like they hadn’t been touched since the 80s.
- 4/5
Good stay for the price and convenient location. Halls need a little work, walls worn, humid and musky but the room itself was fresh and updated. Very friendly and attentive staff.
- 4/5
The hot tub was not heated even upon request
- 4/5
Although I was happy with the property and customer service, my son and I were disappointed that the hot tub was not in working. In addition, the steps and floor of the pool were so slippery, I almost injured myself. There was a film covering it that literally felt like oil. Needless to say, we did not feel comfortable swimming, and left immediately. We chose your hotel over others because of the hot tub and pool amenities, after having driven 12 straight hours from Orlando.
- 1/5
Room was filthy.
- 4/5
The breakfast was great, with both hot and cold food options. The staff were very friendly and helpful, pointing out nearby areas of interest, and noting dining options.
- 4/5
Very clean, decent breakfast, good location
- 5/5
Very good value. Nice location. Staff is excellent.
- 5/5
The hotel needs a facelift (e.g. carpets). the staff is super friendly. The area is very quiet and there is Wegmans nearby. Good breakfast. We will stay here again.
- 5/5
It was very nice. Clean, workers were friendly and breakfast was wonderful.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly. Rooms showed a lot of wear. Outlet didn’t work, rust and mushy tub, dirty curtains.
- 3/5
Wasn’t super clean there was a hairband on the ground and behind the bed crumbs and food. Beds and bathroom were fine
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay. Safe area. Lots of restaurant options and a plus Wegmans and the mall if you have time to waste.
- 5/5
It had all of the comforts that we enjoy.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
This is a good value and very adequate accommodation.
- 3/5
The staff at the hotel were wonderful. The rooms and hallways were very warm. I don’t think the AC worked very well. Good overall for the price we paid!
- 4/5
Great location, continental breakfast, staff, and facilities! I'd recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Monticello.
- 4/5
The room was very clean and spacious. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. All the amenities were a big plus. A very relaxing stay.
- 5/5
This is a great hotel. We stayed here for my son’s surgery. We had to be at the hospital at zero dark thirty and the hotel front desk offered to have breakfast set a side for us. I thought that was super sweet and thoughtful. Will def add Sleep Inns to my hotel stays. We got an ADA room on the second floor.
- 5/5
We had a good night sleep after touring the area in our motorcycle...I wish we had planned to stay a couple of nights, not only because the hotel was such a good choice, but also because the area is gorgeous. Hope to do it again one day.
- 5/5
Excellet value. Very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff!!
- 5/5
This was a nice place
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Nice pool and spa.
- 5/5
Easy check in. Clean new motel
- 4/5
Ok for a night or two. Clean rooms and breakfast included. Close to a Wegmans and other fast food places. Good location to get to other places in Charlottesville.
- 5/5
1night stay
- 5/5
Clean rooms, considerate and helpful staff. Good location
- 4/5
This was a very convenient, comfortable, reasonably priced hotel. Nothing fancy, but very good value.
- 5/5
Very clean nice breakfast
- 3/5
Overall clean but dated and old. Needs an update.
- 5/5
First time I see a stay very clean, quiet staff very friendly
- 4/5
Hot tub
- 5/5
Good price, friendly staff, very clean. Great if you have a car to get around. Close to main highway, but not to stores and downtown for walking.
- 5/5
Excellent day. Friendly staff!
- 5/5
Staff was polite and service was very good.
- 5/5
Friendly staff Very clean
- 5/5
This was my second stay at the hotel, and if I go to Charlottesville again, I will stay there again. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. And the breakfast is simple and hot. And the price is very good. We came to spend a day at Monticello…..also highly recommended!
- 5/5
The only issue we had was that our mini-fridge had such a build-up of frost that we could not fit anything in it! The staff solved our issue by putting our dinner leftovers in their fridge, which was very nice.
- 4/5
It was hard to rate this property. It was very conveniently located for our trip to see a concert at Ting Pavillion. Overall, it seemed clean, if a bit worn around the edges. I only have 2 real complaints: 1.) the bathroom reeked of mildew, though there was no visible source. It was so bad we had to keep the bathroom door closed at all times. 2.) there were very few outlets in the room - the lamp had 2 but neither worked well and I woke up to a dead cellphone because the outlets lost power overnight. The carpet is a bit worn and the rooms are basic. The free breakfast was surprisingly good (get the bacon!), and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
The lady at the front desk was wonderful!
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and welcoming and accommodating. Very safe feeling and easy to access all the things we needed like breakfast in the lobby and coffee. Rooms were very clean and the bathroom was clean and had everything we needed. The only thing that I was not a fan of was the back door you have to use a key for doesnt have a place to roll the luggage carts on to the sidewalk to get inside but other than that loved it
- 5/5
We love this property. Its quiet and clean and staff are always friendly
- 5/5
Everything
- 5/5
We loved that the room was clean and pretty much felt safe there for the most part.
- 4/5
Nice enough place. Could use updating. Parking lot outside by the BK was littered with junk.
- 5/5
Truly amazing, exceeded expectations. Will gladly return if I am in the area again.
- 4/5
Property is nice,The only downfall was that I had to go back downstairs to the lobby for ice.
- 5/5
The hotel room was booked for a family and young boy dying of cancer and awaiting hospice house accommodations. The staff and accommodations were excellent for their needs. Thank you so much!

- 5/5
Very clean and very professional
- 4/5
Good basic hotel. Smallish room but there was a comfortable bed, decent closet space, a desk, and a fridge/micro combo. The biggest drawback was a very noisy air conditioner unit. Breakfast food was a bit limited and there were no black breakfast tea bags. I loved the location off I 64 — it’s a lot quicker to drive into the old campus and downtown mall from the south side of Charlottesville than the north side, where we have stayed in the past. Front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful.
- 1/5
Overall, not clean or up to date. Several outlets didn’t work. TV did not work. Standing water in the shower.
- 1/5
Its the worse hotel you pay for the hotel yet you cant have gust they dont have a laundry part to even do your laundry the indin lady who works there is rude as hell i wouldnt recommend it to anyone
- 4/5
The front desk was unattended most of the time. But other than that we had a good experience
