Reviews
The Oakhurst Inn is a charming, historic hotel with a convenient location near the University of Virginia. Guests generally appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, and beautiful grounds. However, some guests have complained about the small, outdated rooms, thin walls, and lack of amenities like a fridge and coffee maker in the room.

This hotel was so cute! Had a very boutique/b&b vibe. Our room was right next to the pool and patio, which was an excellent location! The pool was the perfect temp and Tyler killed it with the pool drinks and bar drinks. They do require you valet your car, but it was only $15! Would definitely come back when I'm in Charlottesville!

At the time of booking, we requested a baby crib and the hotel confirmed that one would be provided. We arrived at the hotel late at night with our baby asleep, and when we entered the room there was no crib installed. Instead, they showed us a baby walker toy and told us that was the crib. They also told us that Housekeeping had supposedly taken care of setting it up. That same night, they assured us the issue would be resolved, but not only did they fail to do so, when we later spoke with the assistant manager she claimed that I had sent the request through Booking.com and that they do not see those messages. As a result, I had to sleep on the floor so that my baby could sleep safely in the bed. The following day, the hotel manager called us to admit that they had in fact received our message, but that they had run out of cribs. They went out to buy one that same day and left it in our room still inside the box, expecting us to assemble it ourselves. Our compensation for the inconvenience: a $40 breakfast credit. Room rate: US$1,200 per night. This was the worst hotel experience of my life — and I have been traveling for 40 years and work in the hotel industry myself.

Pool area and bar. Those were really cool. My bathroom was amazing. Room was cramped and didn't have a closet. Also, the check in area seemed really odd - like it was just thrown together. Needs to be more finished.

You get a free drink voucher. I recommend using it at the Inn's bar. The Inn has a lovely lounge and bar. The Inn attendants were both the loveliest of people; having to man a lot on their own.The baristas at the Cafe affiliated with the lnn completely ruined my (this has been a perfect stay) vibe; they may have just been having an off day though. Just know exactly what you want when you walk in and don't speak to them again after your order has been placed. Then I suppose things will go better. Other than that I'm sure you will have a lovely stay.

We love the special character of this Inn. The staff were charmingly welcoming, and the location was perfect for walking to the university.
- 3/5
The location was very nice. The check in process and the valet were great and efficient. The bartender was very nice and made very good drinks. The room had enough room for two. The the bathroom and the shower was spacious. The bed wasn't all that comfortable. It was a matress on slats without a box spring. The floor to the room creaked which was expected in an old building. People in the other rooms could be heard and people walking up and down the halls could be heard easily.

Wonderful Inn! Beautiful room off a quiet little terrace. Everyone so accommodating and friendly. We had our 6 yo lab with us. The cute park across the street was perfect for walks. Wish we had more time to sit by the pool!

Staff was great and we loved the location. I would let people know that there are rooms above a cafe. We would have asked for a different room if we had known, but it wasn't too loud in the morning.

We absolutely loved our stay at Oakhurst. The property is beautiful, quiet without feeling sleepy, and incredibly well maintained. The café is outstanding, and the rooms are comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and well appointed. The location is perfect, an easy walk to UVA grounds. Valet parking was seamless and convenient. The décor strikes a perfect balance of stylish and inviting, and the staff was genuinely warm and welcoming. The pool and sauna were fantastic touches. Overall, it delivers an elevated, boutique feel at a great value and feels effortlessly refined without being over the top. Honestly, very little. If anything, just wish we had more time to enjoy everything the property offers.
- 5/5
Very neat and beautiful in an older setting
- 5/5
Our little dog was so relaxed and right at home here. Everyone on their staff was nice and professional. Loved our 1 night stay! I’ll be back.
- 5/5
Charming inn close to campus but still nestled and private. Lovely thoughtful inn staff. Live music and excellent wine and beer selection. Nice light fare and a private pool an sauna. A gem.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our weekend and slept comfortably and enjoyed the friendly & helpful staff.
- 5/5
Check-in and out could have been faster, but I enjoyed the property, had a really great night sleep and enjoyed the friendliness of the staff
- 3/5
We only stayed one night. The staff was professional and helpful. But some things were lacking. The staff was not ABC licensed to serve liquor, beer and wine was the only option. The coffee pot in the lobby was broken. We had to rely on the instant packets in our room which did not fit the hot water pitcher. The staff was able to find different coffee packs but the coffee was terrible. Valet worked fine. Room was comfortable but small and the TV was maybe 32" we didnt use it. Our room was very close to the sidewalk and that made it a bit uncomfortable with curtains having to be drawn for privacy. I expected a bit more. It is not a traditional big chain hotel experience but more of a boutique.
- 5/5
Great hotel that was an old student home. Great location near the campus!
- 4/5
The room was clean, but not bright and the temperature on the air conditioning unit was not controllable even after getting assistance. The staff was very nice and helpful. There is only valet parking which is charged at $15/day. There is no breakfast on the premises, but they do have a cafe within walking distance that serves great breakfasts at a cost.
- 4/5
What’s not abundantly clear about this property, if you’re staying there for the first time, is that it is largely a valet parking situation. And sometimes it’s difficult to coordinate with the front desk as to when you want your vehicle brought around… This is largely because there’s usually only one person working in the front desk and they may be somewhere else on property helping another guest. I would recommend reading carefully the city of Charlottesville street parking signs around the circle where the hotel is, because you could luck out on the weekend and be able to just park your vehicle yourself. However, they don’t tell you about that when you’re checking in. The only other slight complaint I have with OHI, is we had an air conditioning issue in our room, the unit was not pumping out any cold air, but only heat, no matter what the setting was. And it took two days to resolve and at one point required the front desk to monitor the temperature in our room remotely through an app, which wasn’t ideal. We ended up sleeping with the window cracked, and luckily it was cold enough outside that the room remained comfortable. Overall though, nice stay. I would recommend to others, but would make others aware of things like the parking.
- 5/5
What a great hotel - great rooms, incredibly friendly staff. I will stay there every time I head to Charlottesville.
- 5/5
What a great location! Walking distance to UVA's central campus, to Main Street, to the hospital. Valet parking only, which usually drives me nuts but the staff here was so quick with grabbing my car that I didn't mind. Friendly and happy to recommend restaurants. Great cafe on property and a bar in the main building, which we didn't try but looked gorgeous. Fantastically comfortable bed. Would absolutely stay here again.

The room was clean and fine, but they were short staffed. Being short staffed was not a huge deal, but we had a tour that ended at 11:30 so we asked for a late check out of noon. The normal check out time was 11:00 so we only asked for an extra hour. We were told that we could stay until 11:30 but if we stayed until noon it would be a charge of $75 which seemed unreasonable to me.
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Our room was clean and the staff was super friendly and courteous. We did hope that our room had a microwave and refrigerator. It makes sense to have that available in every room on the grounds. Guests I’m sure would appreciate it. Please consider doing this. Lastly, we could here noises above us from possibly furniture that wasn’t secure. Footsteps are understandable, but the rattle of something above room 5 was a bit annoying. This is probably an eat fix. Overall the property was safe, clean and convenient.
- 4/5
Great location if your plans include a visit to the university campus. Room was comfortable and clean.
- 5/5
This was such a hidden gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend the Oakhurst Inn and the staff was amazing.
- 4/5
Small boutique hotel right next the VA campus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They valet you car for free and have a neat little bar downstairs. No elevator but staff offers to help with your bags. The old wood floors are creaky but it was very quiet after 10pm. Nice beds and bathroom. We really enjoyed the stay.
- 5/5
Parking is limited. We unloaded and the front desk took our car. The room was comfortable, I

Clean room. Staff was very accommodating when the temperature in the room was too warm.
- 5/5
Incredibly convenient location and wonderful staff..the entire environment is warm and family friendly.
- 3/5
Very cute - individual houses turned into hotel rooms. But extremely noisy - hardwood floors and heavy wood doors. We could hear everything - people coming and going and walking back and forth. Didn’t get much sleep between 11:30 - 1am or after 7am and that was with a noise machine!
- 4/5
Overall, a decent property. It's in a very old building that was refurbished a little over ten years ago. It's starting to show need for repairs. For example, a portion of the shutters was broken in the bathroom window. The metal support at the base of the bathroom sink was off center. Our room was located behind the front desk, and there was a lot of noise in the early morning hours. Not sure if it was the front desk staff or the person in the room above us who we could here walking around on the wood floors. Having said all that, the staff at Oakhurst was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the cafe (not included in our rate) was first rate, and the service there was fantastic. This was a very convenient location in the heart of the University. A nice place to stay just not sure of the overall value for the price.

Staff was very helpful.

Very nice stay and staff

Great!
- 5/5
UVA game, walking distance to the stadium, campus and fun bars/restaurants. Quiet neighborhood and very nice overall. It's an old building that they have renovated nicely. The floor in our room was slanted as a result, but you get used to it :). Heat didn't work the first day but they quickly resolved it.
- 5/5
Such a cool venue with excellent service. You can't beat the location if you are coming for anything with UVA! The staff, parking, atmosphere, pool area, live entertainment - all exceptional. I will stay again on my next visit!
- 5/5
cool environment
- 4/5
Great staff ! Beautiful old hotel. Since it is old, it is noisy. Could hear other guests entering and leaving. Very walkable to university events. I did feel it a little overpriced, but then other hotels, same amenities, similar price due to football season. Not sure I would stay again, but would consider as I look at options.
- 5/5
It was a very unique hotel. Beautifully renovated, but difficult to navigate when arriving after dark for the first time.
- 1/5
There was “NO HEAT”!!!! We checked into Guest room Number 32. The temperature of the room when we entered was 55 degrees. After touring Monticello and being outside on a cool fall day, this was crazy!! We tried to “turn up” the temperature but it would not turn on. When we told the front desk about, they offered a small space heater for us to use while they investigated. Meanwhile, the breaker tripped while we were using the space heater and we lost power in our room. We went back to the to the front desk, which they flipped the switch on the breaker. The heat never turned on and we ended up leaving the hotel to go to another one. Also, the pictures listed on Expedia under the King Bed Guest Room are not an accurate depiction of the actual room. There is no separate bedroom and a living room as pictured. I booked the King Bed Guest Room as listed on the website and was very surprised when we checked in to see that we did not receive that room. When we asked at the front desk about it, we were told the living room pictured was a “common space.” In my opinion, this was an inaccurate listing for the type of room you get. We ended up staying at the Omni and had the perfect stay.
- 5/5
Staff was so kind and the property was gorgeous. I travel for work and this was one of my favorite places I have stayed.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, comfortable rooms, convenient access.
- 3/5
For the very high prices they charge for home football weekends (significantly higher than the Boar’s Head Resort) I would have expected a much higher quality room. The bed was not very comfortable and the furnishings were very tired and in need of repair. The staff was wonderful, but I will not ever return.

We loved the location--right next to campus and within steps from Oakhurst Cafe--wonderful brunch spot. Staff was very friendly and Inn was exceptionally clean.

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend and it was pleasant bliss. The hosts were so kind and staff were very friendly. The cafe food is outstanding. Can’t go wrong here!

The property was nice and not too far from UVA and downtown area
- 4/5
Very comfortable and friendly staff. Valet parking only was available
- 5/5
Vintage, lots of space and great location
- 5/5
First time…really liked it and will stay here again.
- 4/5
Valet parking was not ideal considering we could physically park and had to wait for it. Other than that it was quaint and historical.
- 5/5
Loved our stay, nice room, friendly staff, convenient to grounds, very clean, quaint pool. The valet parking was odd — literally paid a fee to move our car about 30 feet, but whatever.
- 5/5
Excellent location. Super friendly staff. A throwback stay, our room was super cozy.
- 3/5
Bugs in the light, blinds didn't work, no exhaust fan in the bathroom, A/C went out in the night, A/C leaking water, gnats in the bathroom, staff forgot the 12pm checkout twice
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Liked property aesthetic.
- 5/5
The bartender Mark is funny and smart and charming and worth a trip into the main building. The separate house we stayed in left something to be desired — mops and cleaning supplies sat out in the living room the whole time we were there.
- 5/5
Lovely boutique hotel on grounds at UVA. Terrific service and very friendly environment.
- 5/5
This is a really cool property, i was visiting someone at the hospital (UVA) most of the time i didn't really get to enjoy the full property!
- 4/5
Off season, this stay was nice. The room was large, with two sitting areas and 3 AC units. Quaint, with a historic feel and cute pool area and bar. Staff friendly and accommodating for dogs. Lots of green space for the pup. Their nearby cafe was a highlight for breakfast. A few amenities were a bit lackluster, the room type we booked was King but the bed was only Full even though the room itself (03) was large with the extra seating areas. No in room fridge. The most inconvenient is the parking situation. Its now mandatory valet, so getting in and out is slow. If youre on a relaxed timetable, its ok, but would have preferred just to park on the steet to have easy access to our car. They also park it under sap trees, so that leaves your car a mess.
- 5/5
Our room/bathroom was clean and the staff was very helpful. There is not much parking but they provide valet and on-street parking for you.
- 5/5
There was a nice looking bar and we had drinks by the pool. It was a bit of a walk to our building and our room was down a flight of stairs. They did offer to help with our bags. The parking is mandatory valet. Our building was like an old home with solid wood doors and old hardware. I hadn't used a real metal key in a hotel in quite a while but it was fine. It was quiet and there was a nice cafe/restaurant on the property. We only had coffee drinks and food to go but it was nice. The staff was very knowledable and friendly. I would recommend but be prepared that it's not your standard corporate chain, but that was nice for us.
- 5/5
All good
- 4/5
The cafe is pretty good. Nice selection of creative foods. Easy walk to the attractions in Charlottesville. The pool was nice, but the sauna didn’t work. Just another small example of the missed potential here. There were no fridges in the rooms, although I knew this going in. This would seem to be another simple upgrade that would really improve the experience. Overall, though, the place was nice and I would stay there again.
- 5/5

This property is quaint. The room is large, staff is very nice, and area is great. Enjoyed our stay.

I enjoyed the facility but I was surprised they were out of coffee in the morning. Room was very nice with a huge bathroom but the shower was tiny.
- 5/5
Lovely older property. Well maintained. The Oakhurst Cafe associated with the hotel is absolutely amazing. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
We loved the charm and the friendliness of grounds and staff. Would love for there have to be a more accessible ice machine and maybe a broader selection on the TV channels but other than that no complaints and would go there again.
- 2/5
The A/C was not working properly, towels had blood on them and there was no house keeping services
- 5/5
We stayed overnight for a concert and were plenty happy with the Inn! The property and gardens surrounding the 3 buildings were beautifully curated and well maintained. Check-in, check-out and valet parking were easy and quick. All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean, and the blackout curtains were vital after a late night. I typically bring my own toiletries like shampoo/conditioner/body wash because not all hotels provide ones that are up to par, but I loved the ones provided at Oakhurst- everything smelled wonderful. We didn’t visit the cafe, but had local beers in the bar area before we ventured out for the concert at JPJ. With pre-event traffic, we decided to Uber to the arena (which was a short distance) but walked back to the Inn in an easy 20 minute walk. Would definitely recommend and would stay again!
- 3/5
The property was old, had key entry. The room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. You could see light down the side of the door and underneath. Just needs updating on the doors and a mini fridge. My car was covered in tree sap and we only stayed one night. The employees were super nice and very helpful.
- 4/5
There for an event at UVA, so location was convenient. Inn has separate buildings located around a cul-de-sac right off busy main thoroughfare. A local resident told us the Inn was originally UVA student housing which explains the “dorm-like “ feel of the room and sitting area. The renovated bathroom was well-done with a European vibe. Highlight was the Oakhurst Inn Cafe with amazing breakfast menu, easily walkable to separate building. Parking was “valet only” as location was in a busy area of the University.
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Convenient- walk to university locations Park-like setting, outdoor space is inviting Cafe on property excellent Beautiful pool/patio area, loved heated pool Friendly staff, responsive & helpful Great value- midweek stay 2nights was less than other hotels w similar amenities Will definitely return
- 5/5
Nice property and lovely grounds. Comfortable room.
- 2/5
We checked in at 2 am and the front desk took forever. At one point we needed an item for the room and the staff waited outside the room until we were finished using it. The proximity to UVA is great but there are better options.
- 5/5
I loved having a sofa in my bedroom so when my local friend visited, we had a place to sit and chat.
- 5/5

- 3/5
The room smelled very stuffy, couldn’t sleep because of it. The cleaning is very superficial.
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful and attentive.
- 5/5
lived the old historic feel in a clean well maintained property and patio and pools and sauna was so nice
- 5/5
Event services was top notch and the chef was amazing.
- 5/5
This is exactly the stay that I wanted to have. It was a business trip back to Charlottesville but I was looking forward to seeing the University and visiting my old law school. I wanted something intimate that didn't feel like a chain hotel. My actual experience surpassed even those expectations. The room was fantastic and felt like a home. It was quiet except for maybe the very low rumble the train every now and then in the distance. It was just footsteps from the edge of the university. They had great common areas and a very nice staff. If I have to go back I'm definitely staying here
- 3/5
Our room was cold, so cold that we slept in sweaters. When I told the front desk, the response was: Yes that’s been a problem. When asking for a refund because my child was released from the hospital a day early, they said they couldn’t do that. Also charged me twice the cost of Expedia when I lengthened the stay due to not knowing when he would get out. Will not return to your property. Only stayed there because it was walking distance from the hospital.
- 5/5
AMAZING PLACE, SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF
- 4/5
Charming inn next to Univ. of VA. Sort of a rambling structure with multiple small buildings. Room was small, but well-decorated: wooden floors, minimalist but modern flavor. Nice shower; bed was a bit soft for my taste. Very quiet. On-site bar (lifeless) and cafe (good for brunches, coffee) are available. Inexpensive valet parking is available. Great location for access to college or downtown.

Extremely friendly staff and beautiful location. Everything is well appointed. There's a cafe and the little cul-de-sac if you want to go have a meal. A nice lounge area and bar. The pool works beautiful. We just were there at the wrong time of year. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and very helpful.
- 5/5
I love ❤️ the personal attention and the uniqueness of the property.
- 5/5
Unique!
- 5/5
It was so unexpected- I didn’t realize it was a house renovated. It was absolutely amazing. Clean- quiet -quaint place. I really think it was the best part of our trip! Staff was very courteous and helpful and on site 24-7. Furniture was darling and just perfect Hardwood floors with a rug. Nice bedside table lighting. Curtains for the windows. Crisp clean sheet and own thermostat with fan in room. Plenty of electrical outlets and desk. Large bathroom with super clean floor, pedestal sink, and large shower with great water pressure. Truly a hidden gem this place.
- 5/5
A quaint inn that exudes a traditional warmth and charm. Our room was large and the bathroom was spacious and beautifully appointed. The staff was kind and helpful and the inn's cosy cafe had food so good I'd return just to eat there again. The bathroom was not as clean as I would like but my husband didn't notice so some of us are more particular than others. Don't let that negative keep you from staying at Oakhurst Inn as it really is lovely. Oh, and maybe bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper.
- 5/5
We weren't in the room much but it was nice, clean and we were comfortable there. We'd stay again if we go to Charlottesville again.
- 5/5
Beautiful Inn in leafy, quiet surroundings.
- 4/5
Loved the beautifullly restored old home feel
- 4/5
Very near the Univ. of Virginia campus, though a fair bit of a walk to the shopping areas near the campus and historic downtown. Nice common rooms. Friendly and helpful front desk staff.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. On-site bar with poolside live entertainment.
- 5/5
The staff went over and beyond! Loved my stay and would 100% go back!
- 5/5
Great location and friendly staff! Unique stay!
- 5/5
So peaceful- jazz night on Monday was a lovely treat
- 5/5
What a great spot. Right in the midst of campus and still quiet and so much character. The bar was quiet and comfortable and the rooms had a ton of character. Clean and great bathrooms. Comfy beds. We also had breakfast at the cafe and it was amazing. We will be back.
- 1/5
The service was really poor too both with check in and check out and when I mentioned the conditions of the room at check out (giving the benefit of the doubt that this one room was an oversight and that they would want to know), all the staff member said was “did you park in the parking lot?” Which he then mentioned was an additional $15 (not mentioned in check in!) Wow! So disappointed and we are frequent visitors to Charlottesville.
- 5/5
Will stay here again if we come back to Charlottesville.
- 5/5
Lovely home away from home!
- 5/5
The staff was amazing and the location ideal. They had a great bartender and we had a blast.
- 4/5
We stayed her 2 separate nights. It was so wonderful the first night, that we canceled our additional reservation in another city to come back for the last night of our trip. The first room was bright and clean! The second room was dirty, in a basement, smelled like cigars, overlooked the heat pumps for the building, and the toilet didn’t flush properly. We were so bummed out. Would probably stay again, but the property is inconsistent, so just be aware.
- 5/5
Great staff, cozy rooms, great bar/lounge area. Great change from sterile chain hotels.
- 3/5
We were very disappointed by this facility. Online the pictures showed a charming, quaint, cozy place. In reality it was not super comfortable. There were no chairs in the room at all. The only place to sit (other than the bed), was in common areas. I was expecting (based on online images) a large freestanding tub. Instead, we got step in shower with a too short curtain that sprayed water all over the floor.
- 5/5
Very cute. Great location close to the Grounds. The bar / lounge area is beautiful. The food and service at the cafe were top notch.

In Charlottesville to visit family. We enjoyed the proximity to UVA and walking distance to, just about, everything we wanted/needed. Staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Cable did go out and was not fixed for our stay, but the staff did their best about an even that was out of anyone's control. Would stay again and recommend this charming in to anyone who asks.

Tyler was fabulous for check in.

Bucolic setting was lovely. I arrived at night and couldn’t immediately locate the reception building. That building could have a bit more lighting or signage.

Property is very convenient to the University of Virginia and in a quiet and pretty neighborhood. Staff is extremely helpful and there’s a nice bar, quiet and beautiful swimming area, and cafe on the property. Rooms are a little dated and fairly sparse. Would have given five stars if not for the rooms.

Beautiful property, friendly and attentive staff, Oakhurst will be on the “revisit” list. Thank you for providing such a comfortable and welcoming space.

Very good location next to UVA campus. At Check in there was a little confusion about how many rooms we had...ended up with one room in the basement of an outer building. It was large but the exposed water pipes going over the bed and the window view of a mildewed retaining wall left alot to be desired. Would be okay for college kids.....The property was lovely but would request a room in the main in next time. Pretty pool and great cafe get 5 stars. Parking is tight, a walk to the garage after dark is not ideal. Staff was friendly.

Comfy, user friendly, nice location on a picnic area circle - oasis right near the action! Bar on site, friendly staff. Cafe has great breakfast. Wish we had a fridge but ice readily available from bar. Shower and king size bed were wonderful.

My husband and I came to stay for three nights, and had a wonderful, peaceful experience. When the heat went out temporarily in our building, the staff was right on it, and moved us to another. The fireplaces are an excellent cozy touch!

Positives: The staff was lovely and very helpful! The bed was VERY comfortable with a lot of nice pillows to choose from. I definitely enjoyed being close enough to their cafe to walk to it in the morning. The parking is very close to the hotel so it’s not difficult at all to move your belongings inside. Negatives: There are some very large windows which, while nice to see outside and have some natural lighting, made the room feel very exposed especially as my room was on the ground floor and right next to the main road. I don’t think there’s much insulation in the older building because it was absolutely freezing at night, especially in the bathroom. (I had to close the door at night to avoid it sucking all the heat from the bedroom) While the bathroom was gorgeous, the water temperature wildly fluctuated between boiling hot and freezing cold with no happy middle. The fitted sheet on my bed was dirty, but I didn’t go to bed until quite late, so I didn’t notice until it felt like too late to ask for them to change it. Lastly (and this was on me for not checking ahead of time) the parking for one night was $16 which felt a bit excessive to me. I think it was an ok experience for the price I paid with gold membership Expedia discount, but think there definitely needs to be some changes before I would consider staying again.

It was the perfect setting for a quite get-away.

This was a very pleasant stay. The room was more like a multi-room suite , which was excellent for us as we stayed with kids.
