Reviews
The hotel receives generally positive reviews for its beautiful property, friendly and professional staff, and pleasant overall experience. However, some guests express disappointment with certain aspects of the service and amenities, such as the lack of clear communication about amenities at check-in, absence of free coffee/tea in the morning, and inconsistent turn-down service.

The stay was very average. Positives is it is a beautiful complex with trails and access to the sports complex. Negatives are that they ran out of towels for one of the days at both the pool and in our room, spider webs on the balcony railings and chairs, found items in our room that were not ours and left from prior stays, and the pool was very underwhelming (no towels, pool bar closed, and not nearly enough chairs).

Parking was easy. We had several small issues, none of which would have bee a big deal, but no one answered the phone at the front desk and we couldn’t find any help. Our sliding door was broken. And, we had people who appeared to work there in our room in the evening but didn’t do the turn down service so we were confused as to why they were in our room going through our things. We

Bed was comfortable. The room was not what I thought I bought. Patio not balcony. Where my room was located 704 Lakehouse was next to the housekeepers entry and exit. Non-stop slamming of the door from 5:30-6:30am. I had a nine hour drive that day another nine hour drive that morning. Didn’t appreciate being woken up at 5:30 am by slamming doors.

Encountered bug issues in bed and bathtub. Numerous bug bites. Need pest control management as recommended. Do not recommend staying on 1st floor / basement when weather changes from winter to spring (bug infestation).

Great amenities. Enjoyed the spa, steam room, bar, falcon class, hiking trails and more. I was surprised the heated pools were open in February next time I'm bringing my bathing suit for some winter swimming. Our room was in the 700 building overlooking the lake. It did have a mini fridge that was a nice surprise. It didn't have elevator so conceige kindly carried my luggage up the stairs to the second floor. Our room did have an updated bathroom and a small outdoor balcony overlooking the lake. I would book the same room again for the privacy and views our balcony had. I wish there was vending machines as advertised on the first floor as I was craving a snack when in my room. I ended up going to the wellness center to grab a snack and had fun watching people play tennis and climb the rock wall. Thanks for having Tesla chargers on site. We will be back!

Boars Head is beautiful but rooms are very dated. Room was clean and comfy but it was old and dated and the elevator was at the opposite side of building. Staff was awesome but the dated room was very disappointing. Just glad we paid off season price for our stay. In season these rooms are over $500 per night but the rooms at any Marriott or Hilton are way nicer and more up to date. The hotel didnt even have a smart TV! This property is just beautiful but the rooms don't scream 4 or 5 star resort, they are more like 3 star at best.

Breakfast buffet excelent, regular breakfast when no buffet available, bad. Very good room housekeeping. All hotel personnel excellent: helpful, polite. Bathroom door very heavy and difficult to open/close. Had problems with hot water two nights. For a six-day stay, should have been given room with better view, not rooftop with rusted A/C units.

Extraordinary amenities, grounds, trails, swimming pools, friendly staff - restaurant. There could be better and more available information on services, events, close by events/attractions, including resort history. There are lots of building but guests don’t know what they are for and if they are private or public.

I have always loved the Boar’s Head. However, I stayed in the main hotel for the first time for two nights and the walls are simply not sound proof. The room was beautiful and immaculate. But, the first night, I was awoken at 3am by a woman on her phone in the next room. She then was on her phone again at 6:30am and woke me up a second time. I complained to the front desk and they said she had checked out. The second night I was there, there were people talking until about 1:30am in the next room and I could hear everything.

I have stayed here before and have always had a great experience. Unfortunately, this time our air condition went out on Friday night and the room was extremely hot. Did not sleep at all and they did come fix it Saturday. They did not ask for a refund and for the price you were paying I think you should sleep very well. I did not ask for a refund, but I think it would’ve been customary to offer some sort of refund for a terrible night sleep.

Rude woman at the front desk. My room was dilapidated & has a pubic hair in the restroom along with mold spots on the ceiling. When I informed staff the same woman had me pack up my belongings so engineering could come in then I did not have access to a room for almost four hours later. They were supposed to call when a room was available & never did. I had to go back & check. Rude front desk lady. Was not compensated for my uncomfortable experience.

I have to preface this with, I have been coming to the Boar's Head for at least a decade and even had my wedding guests stay here - that is how much I loved this resort. However, it seems like attention to detail has deteriorated while prices have continued to climb. The rooms in the main building probably need a little more attention than what they are being given....recently we had one room that had lots of fuzzy, green mold (?) growing on the air vent (to the point that I had to open windows to breath) and another that had very little water pressure, and what was there was lukewarm. Most of the staff are nice but I question some of the resort's entertainment choices - not always family friendly, especially when one of the their "family friendly" activities was featuring a Playboy Playmate who had naked pictures of herself prominently displayed on social media channels. Maybe try the Kimpton or Keswick, both newer, nice, clean resorts - and comparable to BH.

The beds were so old and lumpy. They came by and agreed the beds needed replacing but did not replace the following day as promised. We felt very rushed out of the room starting at 9am (check out is at 11am) we got three separate knocks on the door to see if we were still there. Sadly a very uncomfortable stay.

The grounds are beautiful. Our room was dark and smelled like bleach and had a very loud air-conditioning unit that kept us up all night whenever it would kick on. The service was so slow. Took over an hour to check in. Took over an hour to get our food. The presentation was beautiful, but the steak was not edible. The soup was very good but so small. The portion sizes for kids was very good. If there is a better room available, they should offer it so the experience is not so terrible . We did not sleep at all so the next day we were able to do anything. Our room was about 300 for the night and it felt like $150 room.

Service, room, cleanliness, check in, parking all excellent. Food was the issue. First night we just had bar food because we arrived after the restaurant closed so there were only a few options which was fine. Burgers were ok. Next night we ate in the restaurant The Mill Room and the good was not good and yet expensive. The manger noticed our food left on the plate and he was very nice and tried to offer us a substitute but nothing else looked appetizing on the very limited menu. The veggies were cold, overcooked and tasteless, the steak was rubbery and the chicken was small, boring and missing the peanut gravy which I had to ask for and it came out cold… we had to ask for our $15 drinks 2x.. I was embarrassed for them., the staff was very nice but something was definitely off, this was not a $250 meal.

The hotel didn’t honor the Expedia price. Overcharged me for the room. Didn’t get a room upgrade. Woman at front desk was combative when I asked why she charged me $707 upon check in. Never resolved.

Golf course is difficult, but beautifully maintained. Only disappointment form our visit was the lunch at the golf club. Options were limited and food fair.

Elevator out of service for the whole week. Spiders in seating area outside of room. Broken shelf in bathroom. Dirty spotty rug in room. Amenities not filled in bathroom. Broken door on closet. Patio door hard to open. Bathroom door swelled up at night but worked fine during the day. Ceiling light fixture rattled when someone in the room above us walked around.

Rooms need repairs and upkeep. Spa treatments below average. Pool dirty. Best experience with Outfitters who arrange wine tours and other activities. Staff go above and beyond for guests.

*explain at check in the amenities offered and where to go *where are you supposed to get coffee/tea at least in morning? nothing offered for free in lobby? really? for this prices you must *have a list of restaurants to hand out--nothing like that, went to concierge who was nice but printed out pages from internet--again not what a nice resort would have and should have book with menus in it *turn down service not done every night *no channel TV list in room at end discovered large book for resort that showed some understand short staffing these days with room cleaning done late in day like 4 pm a beautiful place but needs to present like a high end resort that it is...maybe doesn't matter to them since I learned UVA owns it and might affect how handled.

We had brunch in the Mill. Delightful.

Room was comfortable and the housekeeping staff was responsive. The Mill provided decent food although they were a bit understaffed on Saturday.

The Boars Head is always a pleasure!

Each room had an iPad to view amenities, make reservations. The one in my room homepage was viewable but none of the links worked. The grounds are beautiful but rooms are just ok. Not worth the price

Very quiet. A place you want to be to chill and play sport (golf, squash, tennis, etc).

Beautiful property, some parts are currently under construction. Service was great. You probably get more out of the stay in the warmer months. Cons: paper thin walls, rooms are dated.
- 5/5
The staff, the food, the drinks all were phenomenal! The Sports/Exercise Facility is world class. Had a class and it rivalled, if not exceeded, Canyon Ranch.
- 3/5
Restaurant was awful- no vending at all and closest convenience store miles away.

We loved out stay. This was our first time visiting and will definitely be back. Be sure to bring a good pair of trail/hiking boots if you want to do the trails. There’s more than enough equipment available in the sports club and the saunas are a great way to wrap up an intense workout. We had breakfast at the Mill Room, but not dinner - we wanted to try out the local food scene. Breakfast was delicious! We opted for the buffet instead of a la carte and it worked out perfectly. The view of the lake from the dining room was a great way to start our day. I can’t wait to come back!

Concierge Mycala and the rest of the Boars Head staff were welcoming, friendly and extremely professional. I recommend this beautiful property for anyone looking for a Charlottesville getaway. I cannot express enough the beauty and pure joy of this exquisite property! You must go and experience it for yourself and your loved ones.

Fabulous food and service in the Mill Room restaurant. Very helpful staff and clean and quiet accommodations.

The grounds were well lit. The room and bath were spacious, clean and comfortable although the furniture, carpet and decor was a bit dated. The room needed to be aired out but I travel with an air purifier and the air was clean after about 20 minutes of the purifier and air sanitizer. I appreciated the comforts of the in-room amenities, especially the sound machine. I was traveling for work and appreciated the quiet and serenity of the views and sounds of the lake. I enjoyed my in-room dining experience and thank Keisha again for her kindness and hospitality. Breakfast was amazing each day. I felt safe, the bed was comfortable and I had a great time at the University. I typically stay at the Omni on the Downtown Mall but wanted to be away from the busyness for this trip.

I always stay here when in Charlottesville. Fabulous on site dining. Great sports facility where UVA tennis trains. Wonderful customer service. Beautiful grounds for walking & easy access to 29.

Always love the Boars Head Inn! Casual elegance at its best! Everybody is so nice , and the restaurant and bar are wonderful! We definitely hope to get back!

Check in was smooth but our room had to be the furthest from the resorts restaurant. Why? There was no evidence of full capacity. Room was comfortable, thermostat difficulty to operate and shower head very old fashioned. No bedside clock while appropriate number of recharging outlets. Curtains kept room dark. Overall, low value compared to price paid.

Excepltionally good stay on grounds that look more like a university campus that an Inn. Clean, well lit, quality everywhere you turn. Excerllent restaurant, great staff, we will be definitely back here
