The Ansonborough was a beautiful hotel in a former warehouse that was well-appointed and luxurious. My room was beautiful and comfortable. The hotel was in a great location to see the historic downtown on foot. The staff were helpful and cordial.

What a beautiful property! The building had great character and was immaculate. It was location very near lots of shops and things to do, but being a block over from the very busy area it was perfectly quiet and low key. We loved the Alida.

Really spendy for what you get. The breakfast was purportedly rated high by reviews, but our experience was that it was pretty basic, comparable to continental breakfasts at large chain, cheaper hotels such as Holiday Inn and Springhill Suites. Given the premium price, there was no amenities such as lotion provided in the bathroom. The toilet paper was extremely cheap and rough, and you are responsible for the credit card fee, which is odd, considering that would be the payment choice for most guests given the high price. The suites could use better soundproofing as you can hear the conversations in the lobby and the front desk. Other than the nice room and staff, the price would not justify a repeat visit for us.

The Ansonborough is a unique hotel made with huge old beams yet with a modern vibe. My sister and I stayed in the loft suite which is on two floors with two king size beds. The separation worked perfectly! I was cozy in the loft, could watch the movie I wanted to, and barely heard what my sister was doing downstairs. We both worked out in the small gym in the mornings, served ourselves from the breakfast buffet, and replenished our coffee as much as we wanted. We walked 20 minutes to all the places we wanted to see from our quiet neighborhood. A big bonus was the Harris Teeter grocery store across the street where we got cheeses and crackers and wine! An overall great stay!

Would have been a fantastic stay but the walls are paper thin. We finally had to blast our TV full volume as our neighbors were going at it and we could clearly hear the woman who was clearly really really really really excited and loud. Not a prude, just didn’t want to clearly hear the X-rated activity next to us. Also ordered 2 drinks and tried to use the free drink token and bartender told us it would not work for regular drinks, only for some kind of welcome drink. When we checked in they told us 2 free drinks. Good location, great staff and decent free breakfast. But the paper thin walls were terrible!!!

We had a wonderful stay! The staff couldn’t be nicer and our room was spectacular! We had a loft room (2 floors) and it was spacious and very cool. Great boutique hotel. The bartender was the only flaw- he was not nice and seemed annoyed at having to pour us wine! They were working on a rooftop situation I believe so no real amenities while we were there. Would definitely go back!

The room was a suite, and it lived up to expectations; clean, large, functional and well thought-out. We had plenty of towels, all the plumbing worked as expected, and the lighting was good. Electrical outlets galore, a great desk for getting some work in as well. The included breakfast was more of a continental type of breakfast, but it was included in the price so I can’t complain about feee food. We had free cocktails the first night. Just a few blocks walk to the center of everything in Charleston and just far away enough to avoid the noise of the crowds. Easily a property we will revisit.

I returned to the property after previous stays. It had been unique with old wood decor, high ceilings, four poster beds and interesting art work. The hotel touted a major renovation, in which they tried to modernize the building, but moving styles of decor. The “new” seemed cheaply done. But I was more concerned about the service. My friend and I were steered to the bar for a welcome drink at a Happy Hour that started at 4 pm. When we returned from a tour at 4:04, the bartender barked at us that he wasn’t ready yet. We were surprised he was so surly. The next day we returned from a walking tour around 2 pm. Our beds had not been made, there was no shampoo in the shower container, no lotion in the bathroom and trash cans in the rooms had not been emptied. We had to ask for more clean towels. Also, there was only one bottle of drinking water left for two guests, and when I left the water in the refrigerator overnight, it froze. I mentioned that to the front desk, but nothing was done about it. Housekeeping did bring shampoo, and some very cheap lotion.

We stayed in the Admiral’s Suite which was spacious and well appointed. I loved that the bathroom featured large bath sheets large enough to dry and cover a larger sized adult. So often hotels have tiny and useless towels. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. We had a spacious kitchen with a breakfast bar and dining area. There was a Keurig and a small refrigerator. I was a little surprised that there wasn’t a microwave with all the kitchen space. We had a comfortable sitting area which included a gas fireplace. Breakfast was different each morning and includes yogurt, fresh melon, oatmeal, English muffins & bagels. Coffee was available 24/7. The front desk staff was very welcoming and provided directions & restaurant recommendations. The hotel is directly across from a Harris Teeter in case you forget something or want some snacks. Parking is $35 per day which seems to be pretty standard in Charleston. The location is close to the aquarium, Ft.Sumter Museum, City Market, the horse drawn carriages and other attractions. We have some limitations walking and found these destinations to be very walkable from the hotel. There were many benches and places to rest if needed. We look forward to returning soon.

The Hotel: very cool place in an old build g with lots of charm. Boutique style so not a lot of rooms and people. Manny was a great bartender and the rest of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The Room: very cozy with plenty of space and amenities. No complaints about the comfort of the bed either. We slept great. The Con: the only con I had was that you can hear the neighbors at night. But like any other space. When the noise stops, you hear a pin drop. Not enough to wake us up, but noticeable. No you can’t hear the guy next to you snoring, but you hear the doors shut and the toilet flush. Lol. Overall a great stay and highly recommended.

Breakfast was a disaster. There was one woman working and not enough breakfast to feed everyone. A small hot plate would go out and then it would be empty fairly quick. 3 days/ 3 days waited. The other days I didn’t bother to go. Coffee ran out as well. This may not have been the case earlier in the am. This was around 9 am. The room did have a certain motel smell to it. Overall the actual room was very nice with loft ceilings. The walls are very thin. I could hear the person next to us cough like they were in our room and their tv. The front desk staff was 50/50. 50 percent were overly helpful and amazing! Went out of their way to help you. The other half seemed annoyed at questions and dismissive and even rude.

We were very happy with the breakfast included in our reservation, especially because the menu changed every day. Our room on the first floor was very convenient. It made it easy to get in and out of the hotel, and in the mornings we could quickly grab coffee from the lobby since our in‑room coffee maker wasn’t producing a warm cup. The room itself was very spacious. Even though it was on the first floor, it was not noisy at night. However, being on that floor did have one drawback: the lighting. The room had only one window, which didn’t provide enough natural light. The window was also positioned a bit high, so I had to climb onto the couch to open and close the shutters. The bed was comfortable, and the towels and room cleaning were excellent. There were plenty of hangers and enough storage space for our belongings. The TV was great—I was able to connect my phone and stream directly from it. The lobby was nicely decorated, and the rooftop was a lovely feature. If you enjoy walking, most tourist attractions were about 15 minutes away on foot. Having a grocery store right next door was very convenient. My only wish is that the parking had been free. coffee maker - non-free parking

The entire experience was incredible. The staff are amazing. We didn't want for anything. When we asked for something it was immediately provided. We have stayed a quite a few luxury hotels in the US. This hotel was better than any other place we have stayed. The layout is stunning. The staff members are kind, courteous and helpful. The fact that they love what they do is evident beyond measure. From check-in to check-out, our stay was relaxing and extraordinary. They even had dog treats for our dog!!! Amazing!!! We highly recommend the Ansonborough Inn to everyone. We'll definitely be back next year. Thank you simply doesn't come close for such an extraordinary experience.

I chose our stay in Charleston, based on the location, The French Quarter, the Inn’s photographs seen on their listing and pricing. Unfortunately this historic winter ice storm “Fern”, spanning across much of the country prevented us from enjoying the area due to the cold and wind, but the photos of the Inn were spot on. The interior of the building was amazing, our room was very spacious and gorgeous. The building’s exposed (painted) exterior brick walls and massive wood post and beam construction with era style woodwork just tells a person that this is just not another over night stay, but a relaxing welcoming. Earning complimentary drinks through our booking along with a set of complimentary drinks at check-in for my wife and I from the Inn we took advantage of the offering at the bar without hesitation. Dinning out is a moderate walk, but with the extreme weather, we choose not to venture out to far and took advantage of what “Harris Teeter” grocery store directly across the street from the inn had to offer, so we made a purchase and had a light dinner in room. The Inn provides a nice light breakfast with a welcomed 12pm checkout. Staff are pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend this place.

This hotel is gorgeous with exposed wood beam ceilings and exposed brick walls. My room is HUGE with soaring ceilings and it is in the perfect location in the old historic downtown neighborhood. Staff has been so nice and the check in process was simple. My favorite thing about this hotel is the warm, modern, natural industrial decor. Oh another nice perk is the parking is free. I always come to the Ansonborough when I am in town for business. Their darling chef has been working there for 16 years and makes the best sausage biscuts and gravy you will find!! The rooms are spacious, and parking only steps from the front door without the hassle and expense of "valet" parking like most places downtown. (pro tip - self park is always your best bet so you don't have to wait). Some of the best restaurants in the city are just a block away, so its an easy walk to and from.

We had a staycation for a day at The Ansonborough. Booked a room because we had stayed here before, and the rates were fairly inexpensive. Since we last stayed, they've done some renovations to the rooms and overall inn. The rooms are big (king bed, standard), and the breakfast had improved from the last time we stayed (eg, better selection, didn't have plastic plates and utensils). I could hear the activity at the front desk (our room was 2nd floor opposite the front desk), and I heard phone conversations from either outside or another room. Our room was also close to the road, so you could hear cars going by. We had a noise machine, so that helped some. The hotel is walkable to many great restaurants and bars on Market Street and right next to a grocery store. Overall, we had a good stay.

Told they would put in our room. If we wanted to join our bags, it was an additional$75.00. To add to this visit you should know, cause we did not, available parking cost $35.00. I mentioned to the desk upon checkout and her response was “you should have let us know before now”. Guess that was my fault. We ended up checking out a day early due to the noise

The hotel is in a great location with plenty of free parking across the street. Staff was great, especially the bartender. The room was clean and comfortable. We have stayed there before but not since the remodel. The hotel has lost so much of its warmth and charm with the modernization. The breakfast area is terriblely inadequate, just not enough tables and space with the sofas there. It's still a very nice hotel but I think many of the changes weren't well thought.out

We used to stay at the Ansonborough once a month for several years when I was working in Charleston. We enjoyed the old timbers and three story atrium. Each room is unique which makes it fun. It has several years since we stayed and they have done some renovations that clearly weren’t thought out well. The charming lobby has been modernized and doesn’t fit with the previous decor at all. The dining room has been refurnished and made it hard to find a seat to eat. Mainly lounge chairs. They removed the tv where you could watch the news while having breakfast. They made the dining room smaller in order to create a “hidden” room for poker. Cute but claustrophobic in there. Sadly, They used to leave a plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies out every night but that’s gone now. I think we’ve stayed at the Ansonborough for the last time.

There’s a grocery store across the hotel which is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping but it’s still quiet at night. Rooms and restrooms are large and have a mini fridge, no microwave. Mattress is not very supportive and sinks a bit. The low rating is due to lack of cleanliness. Look at the photos, that dirt came all from flat surfaces like night stands, headboard, light switches and table.

This was our first stay at The Ansonborough. We were very pleased. Our room was very spacious & well appointed. The small bar was welcoming. The location is great: close but not on top of everything. It’s a fairly quiet property so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a bustling, busy atmosphere, this is not your place. But if charm, history & a friendly staff are what you seek, The Ansonborough is the right place

Very nice accommodations and wonderful staff. Too much dog barking, one night after 10 dogs were still barking and this was just across from the front desk! We had had a long weekend and day and needed to get some sleep! Dogs barking again from about 3 different rooms on the first floor right under our room on yesterday afternoon. This is unacceptable. Patrons need to be instructed to take barking dogs outside until they can remain courteous.

We have stayed at Ansonborough Inn for several years. It’s lost a little something with the new ownership. They used to have breakfast and complimentary coffee. Now you have to pay for a cup. Overall still a great hotel and great location. Parking is nice but you do have to pay $35/night, so might as well valet somewhere. We stayed for the first time on the 1st floor. Property is close by to everything by foot, rooms are large and have kitchenettes, bar staff are very friendly, front desk staff are not very helpful or put much care; the rooftop patio was nice when it didn’t rain which was all weekend long for us. Hotels in general are overpriced in Charleston & approx the same $ for the same type of value. We had a bad experience in one of our rooms where the roof leaked; we were just moved to another room and no discount or credit given for a mid sleep at 1am disturbance of being woken up with water dripping on our heads. That experience & how it was handled left a not so great impression of the front staff service.

This was a beautiful property and very convenient to walk around. Unfortunately we did have problems with our stay because we were charged $900 deposit on top of the $100. When I approached the front desk the lady let me know it was a mistake the hotel had made. I asked to speak to the manager and the assistant manager let me know he was not available the assistant manager was not helpful and said there was nothing the hotel could do and told me to call the bank. I called my bank and they told me the hotel was withholding my money. I told the assistant manager that I did not authorize the hotel to withhold more money then I had already paid. The hotel was paid fully before my trip. I asked for the managers email since he was out of office and I emailed him and he told me unfortunately there’s nothing they can do but that they apologize. This was devastating to here that they could not give me back the money that was mine nor provide an explanation on why they withdrew money from my account without my authorization. The service was not great with the managers as they did not provide any aid for the harm they had caused. I think this is something everyone should consider before booking.

I highly recommend The Ansonborough! I loved the decor of the renovated c1900 building. The rooms were unique in design and beautiful. They had a small bar in the lobby with a cool vibe. The staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations of things to do. One employee even took the time to let me know I had a flat tire on my rental car! This was amazing as I wouldn't have known it until I left to go to the airport, and that would have been stressful! On this note, super easy parking on site. Don't hesitate to book this lovely hotel, super convenient to explore Charleston by foot.

What a beautiful hotel. The staff was friendly, and so helpful. Carrie at the front desk allowed us to drop our luggage while we grabbed a bite to eat since we arrived earlier than checking. From the moment we checked in, things were off. The entire hotel’s internet was down, which wasted time as we tried to settle in. But that was nothing compared to what came next. After returning from a celebratory dinner, we got comfortable — only to discover bugs crawling all over the comforter and in the sheets. Not one or two, but dozens. Absolutely revolting. It was late, we were exhausted, and now we had to pack up and switch rooms. The staff moved us to a smaller, cheaper room with a broken TV. At least it was bug-free — I suppose that passes for luxury here. The next morning, I inquired about the discount the night staff assured us we would receive, and was met with a rude, dismissive attitude: “Our internet isn’t working, we’ll get to it.” No apology. No urgency. No basic hospitality. Got home, checked my credit card — and of course, they charged me full rate. Full rate, after a bug infestation, a downgraded room with no TV, and a staff that couldn’t be bothered. This place is a disaster. Do yourself a favor: stay literally anywhere else.
