The Mills House Hotel is a luxurious and historic hotel located in the heart of Charleston, with a beautiful lobby, courtyard, and pool area. Guests frequently praise the hotel's location, cleanliness, and friendly staff. However, some guests have reported issues with slow service, unhelpful front desk staff, and poor maid service.

The front desk staff on the day of checkin were terribly rude and unhelpful. The woman working the day of checkout was great.

Wonderful stay at Mills Inn for the Spoleto Festival. The location is perfect, the room was very comfortable, the outdoor pool a pleasant spot to enjoy some sun, catch up on reading and have a refreshing drink. Champagne in the lobby at 3:30 pm was sheer perfection after a full morning of sightseeing and concerts. Easy walking distance to all attractions and excellent dining. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy Charleston.

Aesthetic was nice, coffee and food was good. We paid for a deluxe city view room and was put on level 3 in a small king room with a view of a car park and no city view. Went to reception and complained as we paid for the higher floor larger deluxe room with city view only to be told that our room was the correct one and made no effort to acknowledge our concern and ignored the fact that their website stated otherwise. As per their website and booking.com it clearly showed we were in-fact in the standard king which was smaller and no view but a dirty window and a car park. We sent details and evidence to booking.com and received a partial refund as the evidence provided we were in-fact lied to!. I was greatly disappointed in our stay as we travelled 48 hours from overseas for this experience and missed the magical views of this beautiful city.

Nice pool, kind staff (Donna!) Elevators were broken so we had to lug our suitcases up and down the stairs to the fourth floor in my wedding dress, we were promised late checkout but then our key card stopped working.

Location The elevators kept on breaking down. The common areas other than lobby area were untidy and dirty. All guests checking out had to use emergency stairs. Reception staff not sympathetic. And my case broke as a result

We have stayed in numerous hotels in Charleston and this was by far the best. The rooms were big and clean. The outdoor courtyard was perfect to come back to at the end of the day of exploring. Going forward it is probably the only place I would stay in Charleston when visiting.
- 1/5
I was disappointed with the whole experience at the Mills, that I had decided to check out earlier! Never ever again...
- 5/5
The outdoor pool was refreshing in the heat of the city.

Comfortable and roomy bedroom Tiny bathroom, showered head too low for me , sliding bathroom frosted door which didn’t close or lock ; really stupid design , all Light sound and odour enters the bedroom! A lot of street noise; poor quality double glazing doesn’t block out noise. Too many functions and external people in hotel; lobby like a train station; restaurant closed one evening and following morning for a private function so no breakfast available! Very disappointing and very expensive !

This is the best hotel in Charleston with an outstanding location and staff!! First, it is simply beautiful, with access to everywhere in Charleston . The vibe is classy and relaxing. You are greeted with a smile and a cold glass of champagne every afternoon, topped with a top notch restaurant and a relaxing patio area. We were treated so special by Elizabeth, she went out of her way to accommodate us multiple times. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet at night. The staff greeted us by name, including Akelia who’ve gave us the most helpful instructions and insights to seeing the historical sights. This will be my go to hotel every time I visit Charleston Nothing

My favorite hotel in Charleston. Antique feel. Rooms are small, but that’s expected in an antique hotel. It’s beautifully decorated and convenient to all of downtown Charleston.
- 5/5
Only one of two elevators was working. Had to wait too long.
- 5/5
A beautiful hotel in a great location. The restaurant was wonderful for both dinner and lunch. Breakfast was from the menu with tasty, fresh choices such as fresh squeezed oj, Greek yogurt with honey, berries and granola or traditional eggs and omelettes etc. You can eat inside or outside in the courtyard by the water fountain or gas fireplace. The staff was friendly and helpful, never too busy for questions, polite conversation or simply holding the door open. It was a wonderful experience

My wife and I were extremely happy with our choice to stay at Mills House! From the point of checking in, we felt welcomed and thought the entire staff did a tremendous job. They were very accommodating for check in/out adjustments, and were able to hold our bags for us while we explored the city waiting for our flight. The room was very clean and comfortable as well! The outdoor pool was super nice and relaxing, and the poolside bar was a great touch. Highly recommended all around!

The hotel was excellent. We booked a deluxe king room with city view. We believe that we were given a regular king room We tried multiple times to explain this to the staff but they said we had a city view (all the rooms do!) Our room looked just like the pictures for a regular king room. It did not look like a deluxe king either city view.

We picked a city view delux room but were given a view of the parking lot and trash cans. The trash trucks came to empty the bins every morning around 5am, waking us all up. I was not happy.

1. The fitness room while well equipped is really too small. With only one elliptical and two treadmills getting an available piece of equipment is a bit of a struggle. 2. I realize down town is expensive but the price of overnight parking is a bit excessive
- 4/5
Reservations were for king size bed and was given 2 queen beds. Had to make a big stink about it because they said there was no room available with a king bed. After some back and forth, they eventually, somehow, found us a room with a king bed. They did make it right by picking up the bar tab for that evening and breakfast in the morning.

Room was clean , pool was nice and nice restaurants

24 hrs after check out I have not received my Visa credit for amenities checkin deposit. Overall facility quality did not match the star rating and price. I will not be recommending The Mills House..

I chose the Mills House because it was said to be dog friendly, which is an understatement! They were so kind and happy to see our dog, and greeted him every time we came through the lobby. They even had a welcome bag for him. Pretty much everything else was great.too. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the restaurant, Iron Rose, was top notch, and both the restaurant and the coffee shop had dog friendly seating. Our stay was very memorable. Shout out to the bellmen, Daniel and Devoy, who were enthusiastically helpful and friendly! The bartenders don't know how to make a proper Manhattan, but it was no big deal.

We paid about 600.00 per night for the "city view" and our view was the back of the property, complete with 5 open dumpsters and a parking garage. Otherwise, the stay was really nice and the location is great.

Great location in the Historic French Quarter. Rooms good size, nice to have a balcony. Only complaint is there was no mini fridge and the shampoo/conditioner dispenser made the shower feel crowded. It should be on the opposite end of shower head. Great happy hour, check your bill to make sure you’re not charged for valet parking if you didn’t use it, luckily we caught that charge.

mixed bag. I came down right before they closed the bar for a glass of wine and they refused. I went to the front desk and the young lady literally ignored me, didn’t look up or make eye contact. The gentleman on the other desk helped me out and got me a glass of wine. Definitely not Southern hospitality:) The gentleman at the front were friendly and helpful. Food was fine, tough to compete with some of the other great restaurants.

Restaurant was weird about sitting outside. One night we could only sit at the large corner tables because the others were reserved for dinner service, but no one was there or sitting outside. Another evening it had rained earlier and the staff let us sit outside, but wouldn’t wipe off the table because they weren’t serving outside.

Location is fantastic, beautiful building and facilities that are very well kept. Staff was very friendly and cordial. We are in our early 30's and definitely felt like we were the youngest couple staying there (not that we had any expectations of the crowd, could be time of the year) but definitely an older affluent crowd, whom were all very pleasant to be around! Coffee shop was delicious as well as their restaurant. Rooms were very nice, clean and comfy. Seems like this place is at the center of pretty much everything you'd want to do in Charleston, everything within a a nice beautiful walk! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, if you can foot the bill, do it!

Pool nice (hot tub would have enabled using pool in am or night, but I knew before hand there wasnʻt one, so not a complaint. Only complaint was the air conditioner/heater didnʻt seem to work. First it was too cold and when I asked them to check it, it was set a little too warm. It seemed to be set to one, unchangeable, temperature.

The property was charming and well situated in the city. Our tub shower dripped constantly, which was annoying and the adjoining room door was very thin, so the obnoxious family in the room next to us sounded like they were in our room. Otherwise, would certainly stay here again!

Great spot to stay clean and unique
- 5/5
Everyone was definitely on their game. Friendly, warm, professional, handsome.

Love Mills House! Every time I stay - it is truly wonderful.
- 5/5
Great location, beautiful, and friendly staff!
- 5/5
This property is beautiful. Its chic and located right next to King street and all the wonderful places to eat. The pool is perfect and the meals fabulous. The coffee and pantries are amazing. Love the pillows and robes in room. I would definitely stay here again

We had a lovely stay, the pool was the main reason we chose the hotel and it was really great! The location is perfect for exploring and the historic building is beautiful. The daily yoga offered was also excellent. The bathrooms could do with an upgrade and our door to the sundeck was very difficult to open and close, but the amenities made up for it! Very happy overall.

Champagne on arrival. Staff was friendly.
- 5/5
My fiancee and I hhave traveled extensively and this is probably the best property we have stayed st.
- 4/5
The pool was closed on Sunday afternoon for a private party, which was disappointing. However, upon commenting to desk staff, we were fairly compensated for the loss of pool access. Definitely would return.
- 3/5
Tv didn’t work. Balcony had no lock. Room coffee was insufficient and really Terrible.
- 5/5
The cafe in the hotel was also nice to grab a drink or a quick breakfast before heading out for the day . The hotel is centrally located to everything and made getting places easier . The pool at the hotel is also very nice to relax at .
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay while dropping our son off at College. The rooms are smaller than they appear and the pool was a bit dirty but not overly crowded which was nice. Rooms where clean and location was excellent.
- 5/5
We absolutely loved staying at Mills House! The staff was amazing. There were nice amenities like a coffee shop, restaurant and a very nice pool bar! We will definitely be back!
- 5/5
Property was lovely and well situated in the heart of Historic District. Love everything about the hotel. The only issue was that the front desk was not very helpful when we inquired about certain sites to visit, places to eat and available tours. Perhaps there should be a concierge separate from the front desk.

Absolutely loved our stay at Mills House. It's in a great location and makes walking to the market, for a carriage ride, the pineapple fountain, rainbow row, King street and everything else we came to do so easy! The staff is wonderful!! Especially the night crew ! Alex was just so warm and welcoming when we would come back each night. Dwight the manager was extremely helpful with questions and made check out easy. The Black Door Café was great for coffee in the morning and although the weather was overcast during our stay we did get a few peaks of sun and enjoyed the 2nd floor patio, bar and pool area. The complimentary champagne was a pleasant surprise when we came back from a day out and about too. The Rebecca Illustrated store is just so special and has has the cutest everything pink inside!!! I would highly recommend Mills House.

Great visit to Charleston, this is the spot to be. Close to everything and a great place to unwind.

Loved everything about it!
- 5/5
Great place for families – we picked it not only for the location but because it had a very nice swimming pool which my kids loved. The outdoor pool amenities were great. Staff was great.
- 4/5
Great location for both seaport area and shopping
- 5/5
Staying with a friend to see the city sites over a long weekend. So enjoyed the amenities provided. Extremely excited to see my name on the TV welcoming me to my room! And a private balcony with which to view the city life belowAND lounging in the pool too after a loooong day of walking the streets- heaven. I loved the restaurant selections also.

Incredible downtown historic Charleston, SC property!!
- 4/5
The beds were not that comfortable. Also, the bathroom lacked a makeup mirror. Great coffee shop in the hotel.
- 5/5
The hotel was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay. The 4:00 champagne the ambiance all was great! I’d definitely recommend.
- 5/5
The staff made my daughter’s 21st birthday trip extra special. We appreciated the extra effort and will definitely stay here again!

Rooms are great. View was great. Beds great. Bar great. Food super great! Workers=Super Great!

Great proximity to French quarter.

Microwave to each room. Thanks
- 5/5
Bathroom in room not very private, frosted sliding glass door. This was not an issue for us.
- 1/5
Leaving a 1 star review because the hotel called us an hour before we were going to check in telling us they didn’t have a room for us because there was a leak in the ceiling and their hotel was booked.
- 5/5
Staff was top tier and made my life easier. I missed my flight and had to find a place to stay. Anytime I go to Charleston the Mills house is my new home

.
- 5/5
Loved every minute!
- 3/5
Parking was a downer. The outlets did not work and the TV would turn itself off. Then not turn on!
- 5/5
Right in the middle of the French Quarter and easy to go everywhere we wished.also food in hotel was superb
- 5/5
This was my first time visiting Charleston, and I was impressed! Once I was off the plane, I noticed how beautiful and clean the airport was. I was driven to The Mills House by a very nice and knowledgeable gentleman, who gave me a brief history of Charleston. Once inside The Mills House, it was heavenly, thanks to the amazing staff. I enjoyed coffee at The Black Door Cafe, which offers breakfast options, sweets/treats, smoothies, affogato, and lunch options to eat there or take on the go. The Iron Horse restaurant had a great bar and delicious dinner options. There is a beautiful outside garden to sit in and a nice pool with food options too! And NO, I don't work for the hotel :) One last thing: every afternoon, for an hour or a bit longer, champagne is available in the lobby area for all guests who want to indulge, and you can enjoy plenty of refills if you want to be the winner! Just in case I didn't say enough about the staff, everyone was WONDERFUL!
- 5/5
This place is amazing. Pool staff goes above and beyond. Very hard workers and very nice. Bartender was outstanding
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay at the Mills House. A boutique hotel in the perfect location within the French Quarter and walkable to amazing restaurants, shops, and waterfront.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Beautiful
- 5/5
Staff was great, property was clean. A great henefit was the onsite restaurant and bar.
- 3/5
Great central location—easy walk to museums, restaurants, and shops. Our first night was rough due to loud neighbors in an adjoining room, but switching rooms helped. The new room occasionally had a sewer smell in the bathroom. The pool area was also frustrating—too few lounge chairs for the number of guests.
- 5/5
Lovely Property. Easy access to local dining and shopping as well as historic areas. Fun pool bar on the premises. We will be staying again next time we visit Charleston.
- 5/5
First time in Charleston. Hotel was fabulous. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They went out of there way to make our stay memorable. John one of the managers was exceptionally nice and helpful. Gave us some great recommendations that made our trip great.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel!
- 1/5
The negative rating is mainly due to the excruciating back pain we’ve endured and still experiencing from our hard mattress in room 425. Dwight, the front desk manager was especially pleasant and welcoming. Along with a bellman that had the same accent as Dwight.
- 1/5
Worst experience! Over charged. Paid in full and received extra charges along with a valet charge when I didn’t even have a car. told i was getting additional $30/day.
- 3/5
No room service. Loud music for 9 hours straight. No she crab soup served until dinner, which previously was served at lunch, as well.
- 5/5
Very nice higher end hotel.
- 5/5
Excellent.
- 4/5
Property was very convenient to what we were in Charleston to do. Easy to walk everywhere.
- 5/5
Clean, pretty building, boutique-like, great customer service, nice pool, close to everything. Very happy.
- 5/5
The bar staff were very nice. Especially Riley. She made me feel at home.
- 5/5
Great weekend with friends.
- 3/5
The location is perfect for a visit to the Historic District of Charleston; however, there is a sewer smell in the vents of the AC at night in our 6th floor room.
- 5/5
Great locations. Clean and good sized rooms.
- 3/5
For the money it cost to stay at The Mill House there should be way better parking provided by the Hotel… I would not stay there a second time…
- 5/5
Excellent location, excellent value. This was one of the few hotels offering two queen bed rooms and not a sofa bed. Couldn't have asked for a more central location. The property has been beautifully renovated and highly recommend.
- 5/5
Great location and very charming hotel!
- 5/5
We loved our stay here! So convenient and close to everything, walkable to all restaurants, shopping, etc. in the area. Loved the iconic history of the hotel, it was the perfect place for our 10-year anniversary trip. Rooms were nice and well-equipped with comfy beds and service was top notch. Would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
I did enjoy my stay at the Mills House Charleston....I just wished that there was a closet and possibly a drawer or two for you to put your clothes.

- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Wonderful property!! Loved it!
- 5/5
Excellent hotel! Mills House is a superior place to stay while attending Spoleto events.
- 3/5
Price per night was way high for a TV that was not working and slow service when on patio. We like the location of the hotel however
- 5/5
Property was very nice and well taken care of. Perfect location.
- 5/5
Other than that we would stay there again.
- 3/5
The pool area was decent, but it was extremely crowded and mainly full of non-hotel guests. Overall, decent place but there are definitely better options in Charleston for the price.
- 5/5
Loved all the amenities and the beds were very comfortable. Can’t beat the location either.
- 5/5
Beautiful place with friendly helpful staff & great amenities ! Highly recommend Mill House!
