Reviews
Guests generally have a positive experience at this hotel, appreciating the friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, and good breakfast. However, there are recurring issues with parking, either due to lack of spaces or additional fees. Some guests also mention that the bathrooms need updating and repair.

Great location clean and price was right . It was not a luxury vacation — we had an appt at musc . It served our purpose well. Could the bathroom use some updating ? Yes . Did I care ? No

I would not recommend this hotel. We chose it due to its location (close to Charleston), pool and breakfast. However it was difficult to appreciate due to disappointments we encountered. We arrived at the appropriate check-in time to find that 2 of our 3 rooms were not ready. The receptionist could not tell us when they would be ready- we had a dinner reservation so 8 of us had to get ready in one room. The bathrooms were very worn down. (There are signs suggesting renovation is occurring-we saw no evidence.)Due to the lack of bathroom hooks we had to hang towels/washcloths on tub. The next day several of them had dark mold from the tub. There were never any towels at pool. (We noticed several cockroaches at the pool and my in-laws found one in their room.)The receptionist put our payments on the wrong credit card-which complicated check-out. I feel sorry for staff members as this hotel seems completely understaffed-which I'm sure is at the root of many of these problems. The price of this hotel is not equivalent to the experience provided.

Was charged for parking when I didn't have a car.

They were renovating we came for overnight stay. We arrived late Tv didn’t work and got woken up at 7:45 by carbon monoxide detector. We got dressed and checked out let front desk know tv was not working and alarm was going off in the room we originally thought it was fire alarm with low battery until front desk agent told us it was carbon monoxide detector she had been getting notice but hadn’t had time to do anything about it. Not sure if low battery or we were lucky to make it out alive. Anyway, probably not returning to this hotel.

When I booked the hotel, my receipt said one price. I ended up being charged $76 more. I was told $50 is an incidental fee and should be refunded. The rest of the charge was for parking in the parking garage. We were unaware that parking was going to be $26. The room we got was also not the room that was pictured in the booking. The room pictured included a chaise lounge and a shower/tub combo. Our room did not have the chaise lounge and only had a shower.
- 3/5
The room was terrible-nothing worked and there was no lighting
- 4/5
Parking was not good
- 3/5
Looks nothing like the pictures. Poor renovation and very dirty
- 4/5
A little less than I expected. Breakfast was fine and I appreciated the water and coffee available at all times but the hotel felt a bit dated and run down.
- 5/5
We love the Best Western in Bandara! Fun decor, clean, and the staff is great!
- 5/5
The staff was nice. And the breakfast was good. The tub could use an update.
- 4/5
Parking is not great and it is a little farther from downtown than is walkable. The staff was great and it was clean just plan for an uber ride or drive each day.
- 3/5
Not centrally located. You'll have to drive if you want to go anywhere. I do appreciate the free parking.
- 3/5
Bathroom wasn’t clean and smells like mildew. Was surprised with hidden parking fee, $15 per night. The only good thing - convenient location and size of the room.
- 3/5
No wake up can, broken TV, I got double charged at check in
- 4.5/5
Great lobby. Breakfast. Coffee was good too. Nice beds. We were told that we could swim till 10. But then it was 9 and then it was closed. Guess it had rained. But the front desk gal didn't know

Keurig and tv were broken in our first room. Staff was extremely unhelpful and verged on rude. Asked 3x for tv to get fixed and finally after day 2 they moved us to a different room where the keurig was still broken lol overall comfortable, not the cleanest or best maintained. Breakfast was not great. But had the basics and a good sized refrigerator in the room. Great location.
- 2/5
We had a dripping shower with mold in bathroom . . It took 2 days for anything to be done only because the head of housekeeping happened to be near our room so she took a look and moved us and upgraded us immediately for remaining 2 nights . Front desk was told twice about the problem on day 1 and nothing was done . We had toilet paper holder hanging off the wall showing a big hole in wall . We are grateful to housekeeping for acting on it for us . Other than communication issues hotel was good . Breakfast could have been better , stale English muffins and very watery eggs . It was small things like , went to do laundry couldn’t get in . Went to get ice , no ice in machine . We will not stay in this hotel again .
- 4/5
Very good
- 2.5/5
Passable
- 2/5
Our room was out of soap, shampoo; AC ran continuously; breakfast was out of coffee, eggs, sauasage…essentially inattentive staff
- 5/5
Nice complimentary breakfast, free bus nearby (hotel is not very close to the ‘hot spots’ in town), staff was accommodating to requests. It was a last minute trip so we didn’t have time to shop around much. This was the most reasonable option for us and worked out well.
- 5/5
All the Staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the daily breakfast and appreciated the turkey sausage choice.
- 3/5
I like the location of the hotel I didn’t appreciate the front end staff not trying to be helpful as I was trying to get an invoice to document my stay. It also was difficult trying to communicate with the housekeepers who didn’t speak English
- 1/5
Meanwhile, we were at the front desk atleast twice a day asking for help.

The hotel is ok for a business trip or a quick visit to Charleston, we stayed two nights and switched to a more resort style hotel.
- 2/5
The room was dirty especially in relation to the price.
- 3/5
Near family for travel without being directly downtown. Bathroom facilities were out of order early in the morning and had to relocate to another room. It wasn't the worst but totally unexpected. Better communication between facilities and the front desk is definitely needed.

The bed was comfortable. Where you pull up at front door, the drop off is so extensive that if you are in a sedan or car low to the ground you may ruin your car going down it. We had to back up and turn around as it sounded like it may take out or tear the oil pan. I asked for a receipt when checking out, and they said Booking could give me one and that was after she said there were extra charges for parking and hotel stay charges??? We were placed in a room on the first floor that had a toilet that would keep running if you didnt push handle back up every time. Shower door didn’t close all the way while in it. Carpeting looked like it was 25 years old and all stained.

Clean room. Very basic hotel. Good selection of marketplace items for sale.
- 3/5
TV Never worked, in room coffee maker worked 3 times, breakfast OK, coffee not available after 6 pm, room towels o ly changed once, beds comfy, quiet, limited on site parking - used parking garage that was OK, front desk staff friendly, but no sense of urgency or recalling caring about issues.
- 4/5
Clean room good for quick stay. A little far from main tourist area, but some things nearby.
- 4/5
Location Beds not comfortable and bathroom very small.

Beds not comfortable and bathroom very small.
- 2/5
But these things pale next to the parking mess. The attached lot is far too small for the hotel. The backup plan is to send guests to top floor of the parking garage across the street and have the hotel validate your ticket. I lucked into a spot in the attached lot, so I just let my car sit for 2 days and found other ways around Charleston. But I won't be staying here again.
- 4/5
The breakfast was very good. The parking was in a parking garage across the street. That was a bit of an inconvenience. Other than that it was ok.
- 2/5
Rude staff. Don’t expect your room to get serviced at all. Elevators broke down and was forced to carry heavy luggage down 6 flights of stairs.
- 4/5
The rooms were clean and neat, breakfast above normal for a continental breakfast and staff very accommodating

rooms were in bad shape...shower door rail very moldy, room doors were rusty and bubbling at bottom. Breakfast food was what can be expected for a free breakfast. Eggs were extremely water. Behind hotel was an abandoned property which was sketchy. Won't be back.
- 5/5
Clean. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds. Good coffee.
- 1.5/5
Very disappointing stay. The room was outdated, with old carpet, an unpleasant smell, and extremely low ceilings that made the space feel uncomfortable. The bathroom design was very inconvenient — the sink was poorly designed, water splashed everywhere, and there was no proper space for personal items. The shower setup caused water to leak onto the floor, leaving everything wet and humid. Housekeeping was minimal — towels were changed and trash was removed, but no proper cleaning was done during the stay. Breakfast was poorly managed. Many items were constantly missing, including basic options, and nothing was restocked even during breakfast hours. The biggest issue was a hidden charge after checkout. I was charged $86 without any clear explanation. Only later was I told this was for parking, but this was NOT clearly disclosed during booking or at check-in. We even asked where to park, and no one mentioned any additional fee. This lack of transparency is unacceptable. If the parking fee had been clearly disclosed in advance, I would likely have chosen a different hotel. Overall, the price does not match the quality at all. I would not stay here again.
- 5/5
Breakfast menu was good
- 4/5
Getting off the elevator on the 7th floor was concerning. There was molding that had been removed and plastic covering a wall. I think just a sign saying “pardon our dust” might have helped. Tasha was very helpful the evening of 4/26.
- 3/5
Beds were extremely uncomfortable and the remote said affix but I could not stream It at all
- 2/5
Picked this hotel because it advertised an outdoor pool. Pool was closed the entire 3 days we were there. Property was very dated and needed a facelift. Disappointed.
- 5/5
The staff is really helpful. The rooms are really nice. The bathroom ceiling looked as if it was falling in. The paper was hanging down and wasn’t appealing to the eye that takes away from the room
- 5/5
Nice room
- 3/5
People in adjacent room were very loud at 1:30 am , told them I calling police , both nights !
- 4/5
Not a lot of parking spaces but they allowed us to park against the curb. Super friendly staff, very polite. They had some water damage that they are currently fixing but I would stay here again.
- 4/5
Overall worked out ok. It is considered budget for the downtown area (in reality too high compared to my other trips). Shower pressure is good, bed is comfy enough. AC, fridge & MW worked fine. Not full range of breakfast items (pancake mix is so awful it is a waste). Liquid soap only that sprayed all over. Clean towels everyday, but sheets change request never got done. The free shuttle block away worked ok in the morning but horrible coming back in the afternoons. Publix grocery nearby helped to supplement meals. French café (nearby) disappointed in their desserts unfortunately. The destination fee had extra sales tax on top of it (not disclosed by hotels.com)
- 3/5
I would stay elsewhere next time
- 2/5
Property needs to be updated. Faucet didn't drain. Tub leaked. Carpets not clean. Receptionist was rude but some others were very nice. Location was good. Breakfast was pretty good. When we first arrived they assigned us to a room across from a room affected by an electrical fire. There was trash and blowers in the hall. They did move us but just down the hall and everything we walked to the elevator eyes watered from smoke fumes.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, clean with good rooms. Not very close to the French Quarter, about 45-50' walking
- 2/5
Poor parking, not enough spaces. Small bathroom Will not stay at this location again.
- 5/5
Staff were very friendly and breakfast was good. I would stay again.
- 5/5
It was super busy when we arrived and had to wait about an hour for the room. Other then that, the entire stay was great. Location is good, 15 minutes walking from historic downtown.
- 5/5
Staff were friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and quiet hotel. Easy to catch the bus to hit the sites.
- 1/5
worst customer service ever. waited 3 hours after check-in before was able to check in
- 5/5
The hot breakfast was excellent. A lot of variety and choices and very tasty. I loved the warm cinnamon rolls.
- 3/5
The hotel room was lacking. There was a lot of water damage to the bathroom. The shower door wasn't sealed properly so the water leaked onto the floor and made a big mess. The lighting was lacking. A big mirror with a desk would've been a perfect place to put on makeup while somebody else was using the bathroom. Unfortunately with no lighting on that area, it was useless. I wish i would have grabbed brochures at the airport because i didn't find and until the last day we were there. They were on a desk hidden away. I didn't notice them until i walked by to avoid the line of people. The pool is outside, which is great if it was nice outside. Our hotel room keys didn't work so we had to go back to the front desk and have them rescan them. We had to wait for one of the maintenance crew to fix it. He had to go back and recreate the keys to the room before we got in. Overall, it was pkay.
- 4/5
The bathroom tub wasn't the cleanest and the floor showed signs of flooding probably due to shower door not preventing water from leaking and pooling which happened during my stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful though.
- 5/5
Clean and staff was friendly
- 3/5
Disrupted our plans and very inconvenient. Should be compensated. Staff very understanding. Ran out of tissues and almost toilet paper. Poor location to get into downtown.
- 4/5
Room clean. Good towels. Shower pressure good. Wood in bath seemed damaged. Main door has yucky stains, as did furniture in lobby. Bath needs a fan. Lighting near mirrors would help. Carpet needs replacing. Breakfast was adequate. Staff very nice and helpful.
- 3/5
Good location and close to waterfront. The breakfast was good and had a variety of hot as well as cold items. Coffee available anytime. Parking garage is nearby and well lit. We had a clogged shower and a heat issue. The maintenance guy was there in minutes. The room was cleaned daily and well done. Having allergies I was alert to this. Staff were always helpful and pleasant to deal with. I’d stay there again. 😊
- 5/5
Was t happy that you had to pay for parking.
- 2/5
Breakfast and gym were average. Shower was very disappointing with little to no hot water. Told front desk, but nothing done. Staff was friendly. TV had very limited channels.
- 4/5
First time in this area, felt congested, building seemed older
- 3/5
Breakfast fine, parking tight but there is a garage backup. Hotel staff seems helpful but are totally ineffective to solve our non functional TV after many requests to solve the problem.
- 3/5
The room was clean but not spotless. The bathroom was in rough shape. The handles to the shower doors were falling off. The shower leaked all over the floor. The TV was broken. The front desk staff was MIA for some time when I went to the desk to report my concerns. The breakfast was not as good as other Holiday Inn Express properties I have stayed at. To the credit of the staff, they listened to my concerns and discounted the rate by 20% at my request.
- 4/5
The breakfast was great. Room was clean everyday. The staff was very professional and informative.
- 1/5
Everything in the breakfast room is in styrofoam or plastic. No real plates or silverware. Too much garbage produced everyday.
- 5/5
Great Night
- 3/5
Hotel was clean, but clearly dated. Breakfast was ok.
- 3/5
Facility looks dated

Nice location great staff
- 3/5
Stayed only one night for an appointment at MUSC for my mom. Computer/power issues completely wiped out television and there was no way to make a room key. Had to request toilet paper however the room was clean and the staff was friendly. Limited parking unless you use the garage next door/3rd floor. Doubt we would stay again due to parking.
- 2/5
Waited 45 minutes for anyone to come to the desk to check us in. When we went to our room the door was
- 1/5
Parking was ok. TV was broken and reading light was broken> Requested maintenance for those two items three days in a row. Answer was always it will be fixed tomorrow. Never happened. We found the maintenance man in the hallway and he came and replaced the tv at 8:30 our last night. Bathroom needs more counter space and bathroom needs towel racks to hang towels to dry.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay with you! Very nice room!
- 1/5
Showed up at 3 in the morning I pre paid and they gave my rooms away and no refund! This place is a total dump and Expedia totally sucks! Stay at Marriot !! Still trying to get my money back
- 3/5
Staff was super but the conditions here are not too great. Back up at front desk Rooms not ready for check in at 4.00 Housekeepers can’t speak or understand English The employees do go out of their way to help
- 1/5
Breakfast was bad. From watery eggs to whatever they call bacon being terrible. The yogurt was the only edible option.
- 3/5
The room was clean but the bathroom needs updating
- 1/5
We were given a key at checkin to a room where people were still sleeping. Then waited 2 hours for another room key. The front desk person kept disappearing not to be found. When we got into the room that night the TV did not work. Front desk was going to send someone up but no one ever came. The handle to the shower door fell off as we opened it.
- 5/5
Visited Charleston for the first time and stayed 3 nights at Holiday Inn Express Downtown. The room was very nice with small refrigerator, microwave and Kureg coffee maker. Really nice breakfast served every morning and fresh brewed coffee anytime. The staff was very accommodating. Location is close enough to downtown area that you could walk to it. There is a Puplix right next door. We chose to catch the free bus called DASH, which we caught right next to the Publix. The buses picked up about every 45 minutes. Would definitely stay again for the price we paid for being close to downtown Charleston.
- 5/5
Room was fine. Check in accomplished quickly. Breakfast was typical with several options. Location was a plus..close to excellent restaurants and public parking. Woul stay there again!
- 5/5
Staff was the best staff I’ve ever stayed with. Friendly and helpful. I will be coming back to this location when I travel back to Charleston
- 4/5
Friendly staff and very helpful. Exercise room met basic needs. Standard breakfast offerings. Bathrooms are small, beds are comfortable.
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Affordable and easy uber trip to historic district.
- 4/5
Good and clean but staff was rude and did not explain hidden charges after checking in like deposit, parking and destination fee and just charged my card plus we’re not very friendly or helpful when asking for an explanation on why and received rude response. Fast food nearby but nothing else and have to drive into town. Small parking lot
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Enjoyed breakfast.
- 5/5
excellent hotel at a reasonable price- uber into downtown or 1 mile walk that is enjoyable.
- 5/5
Okay so it is a bit of a walk to King Street in Charleston (the main downtown street) but with a quick uber ride you can be there in minutes and with their lower room rates it was worth the uber! You can certainly walk but it is over a mile.
- 5/5
Fabulous place to stay. Most courteous and friendly staff. Convenient free busing around the city and to shops. Will definitely recommend.
- 5/5
There were a few good restaurants within walking distance but it was a good 25 minute walk to King St. but very doable !

The room was clean, and the staff were amazing. It needs a bar!
- 1/5
The only good thing about the place was the cleaning service. Check in was terrible and frustrating. Location was awful the hotel behind it is abonden. The area it’s in is so sketchy you cannot walk to any bars. The breakfast yuck. So disappointing
- 5/5
Staff was amazing.
- 5/5
Very clean, staff friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Staff were wonderful. The room was clean, but a little tired and the sink was missing a stopper, which wasted water while shaving.
- 5/5
All the staff were excellent!
- 3/5
Yes
- 3/5
Staff was good. Room door didn’t close securely on its own. Out of alignment.
- 5/5
Friendly staff! Clean rooms!
- 2/5
We called the front desk three times during our stay that the TV was not working. They said they would send up a maintenance person. The person never showed up. When we requested to be compensated for this, they said because we booked the hotel stay though Hotels.com, they couldn’t give us any discounts. We will not stay at this property again.
- 3/5
The room was decent. There needed to be a light when you walk into the room because it was so dark. One of the lights lamps were blown out. They didnt have a trash cab in thw bathroom and they placed the towels on the top of the toilet. The lady at the front desk was super nice. They were super busy and she was dealing with an issue which kept her gone for a while and we had to wait a while for her to return to check in but once she gor back she got us checked in and squared away to our rooms. On-site parkjng is VERY limited even for the handicapped so finding parking was very tough.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Staff was awesome at resolving issues.
- 5/5
Clean room, great location.
- 5/5
Nice personnel
- 1/5
We had to pay $30 to park
- 3/5
The toilet continued to run for a long time after flushing. There was no hot water in the shower. The room was very dark.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
The hotel was really nice. Even though we got the room overlooking the garbage disposal areas. The room itself was very nice. But the fact that they advertise that they’re right downtown is misleading. It is a $10-$15 Uber ride to get to downtown. And they 1 to 2 mile walk.
- 4/5
It was quiet. Staff friendly
- 5/5
The ladies at the front desk were absolutely fantastic!!
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Front desk person at checkout was amazing
- 5/5
Great location and cleanliness of the property. Weight room provided a great morning workout with all the right equipment.
- 5/5
The front desk staff were all polite. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was good.
- 5/5
This hotel is top-notch, especially for the price. Clean, updated, and convenient. The staff was very friendly, and check-in was easy. I would definitely stay here again.

- 4/5
Room was cleaned and staff was great
- 5/5
Nice, clean room, and good location- wish there was more on-site parking, but otherwise would definitely recommend!
- 5/5
Room had noisy fridge and non working room thermostat stayed hot
- 1/5
This property received this rating based on non disclosure of nightly parking fees and destination fees. When I checked in I was only advised of the incidentals hold. My card was charged $143.00 for parking and a tourist fee that was not disclosed at check in.
- 5/5
We arrived at midnight (January 9-10). The front desk was most helpful. Throughout our short stay, I have to stay every staff member we encountered was so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast variety was a nice touch as well. This is surely a hotel I would return to for a quick get away!
- 5/5
Staff was great. Breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Receptionist was so welcoming and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable and conveniently located. Breakfast was amaxing with a large variety of delicious options. I had a great stsy at a very reasonable price. .
- 5/5
Muy bueno, hay personal muy amable en la habitación, Super limpia el baño, principalmente espectacular y todos los Edna Coca-Cola helado que quieras son gratis. Me quedé sorprendido con eso es muy bueno eso está incluido también el desayuno
- 5/5
The Hotel was in the perfect location-dowtown, historical area, and other Charleston attractions.
- 4/5
Great staff
- 4/5
The location worked for us.
- 5/5
Wonderful front desk lady.
- 5/5
Pity the coffee machines kept stopping working.
- 4/5
Everything was good. Took one star off because the hallway carpets really need a steam cleaning.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. Only negative and the reason for the 4 stars vs 5 is the lack of staff to replenish breakfast and other amenities. It was very busy and everything was running out quickly.
- 3/5
Room was good for the price. Daily housekeeping did not happen - if it was supposed to. It was clean and staff was friendly. Limited parking at hotel but there is a parking deck adjacent if needed. Ubers are readily available.
- 3/5
Breakfast options very limited
- 5/5
Easy check in, nice staff. Clean rooms.
- 4/5
Coffee maker in lobby made good coffee but in the evening both needed something done ( grounds emptied maybe.
- 5/5
Clean comfortable convenient and walkable. Great hotel staff. Good breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff were courteous.
- 4/5
I was in town for work and this was great for that. Publix is right across the street.
- 5/5
Place was clean and the bed comfortable
- 5/5
A very nice staff, clean room, and nice neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay and would go back in the future.
- 5/5
Most comfortable bed in a hotel in a very long time.
- 5/5
Yes the room… and the staff was very friendly and helpful
- 2/5
Came in with an over sized van at 11:30 at night. The staff told us we could not park our van on the lot. After arguing with them for 15 minutes, they said we could park on the side of the building and charged us an additional $78 for parking and "Incidentals". Will not stay at this location again. Customer service needs a refresher course in their profession
- 5/5
Staff was very curteous. Room was warm and inviting on a cold night. Very convenient to VA hospital for an early morning appointment
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful, the breakfast was more than adequate, wonderful pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage. Our room was pristine, our a/c was just right. The staff at checkin was wonderful, so friendly and helpful. When we needed advice about the bus stops they could answer all of our questions.
- 4/5

Above and beyond help with photocopying etc. well respectable breakfast and overall service.
- 4/5

- 5/5
Friendly and diligent staff. Clean room and hotel.
- 1/5
Check in took an hr, missed our reservation, next day door failed to open took 45 min for maintenance to do 30 sec work to open door missed our other reservations. Said the would disconnect us the room, they did not.
- 5/5
The rooms were clean and they did a good job of cleaning mid-stay. The receptionist was courteous and quick with check-in and check-out.
- 4/5
We stayed here because it was the only reasonably priced hotel in/near downtown Charleston that included breakfast and didn't require us to drive in every day and find parking (nightmare) to visit attractions or eat at a restaurant. It was quite a lot of walking, which most people would not be willing to do, but it is generally how we like to see places. The front desk staff was very nice, and 24-hour access to fresh coffee was awesome. The room was clean but showing some age. The shower was hot and had excellent pressure even on the top floor. The sink did sputter a bit, and the soap dispenser holders need some tightening, as the tops can come off during use. One negative is parking. There are only small lots on each side of the hotel which lack space when the hotel is busy. My suggestion is to skip trying to find something in the lot (except possibly during the week) and go to the garage instead. The hotel has its own floor, which always had lots of space on the occasions we needed to access the car. The TV was also disappointing, as some channels didn't work, and others just working regularly. Overall, the stay was pleasant and we would likely stay there again.

Clean room, friendly staff. Good breakfast clean, well stocked, good variety.
- 4/5
Cons: Very limited parking, bathrooms were quite dated, we suspect the air was not the best quality as our dust allergies were in high gear.
- 5/5
The property was nice and Tosha the front desk agent was nice and very pleasant
- 1/5
The bathroom shower was covered in mold. Didnt use. See pictures.
- 4/5
Room was very clean, housekeeping was vacuuming at time of checking in and it made it extremely hard to hear. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, Air conditioning was excellent in the room.
- 1/5
Odd all the way around
- 4/5
Nice staff. Room was a bit dark and shower dated. Overall good though.
- 5/5
Room was spotless, service was great… no issues at all… great hotel experience.
- 3/5
The room was clean but cramped. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Clock still set to daylight savings time. Lobby coffee machine inoperative at 6:15 am !!! Parking difficult and seemingly under construction. Breakfast good.
- 5/5
Redone older building, but they have done a nice job with it. Great staff at desk!
- 4/5
Yes
- 4/5
The breakfast was good, nice selection. Beds were very comfortable, sheets were soft and clean.
- 4/5
Staff was pleasant however was not please with the TV streaming connection..
- 1/5
the room was dirty. you could visibly see it on the walls, i found a pill on the floor, and the shower looked like it had mold or something growing in it, there was limited parking in the actual parking lot and you had to pay for parking anywhere else nearby. i’m extremely disappointed. one of the staff members at the front desk was very rude and dismissive when we were checking in and just seemed like she hated her job. i will not be staying at another holiday inn.
- 2/5
Room: Carpet in room was visibly dirty. Looked as if it hadnt been shampooed in months to the point it was nauseating. Bathroom shower floor looked very dingy. The inside wall of shower had white plaster that looked very sloppy and unprofessional. I know we will never book a stay there again.
- 5/5
Nice location, close to downtown but still quiet. Our room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
Hotel was described as "downtown". It isn't downtown at all.Needed a cab to get downtown.
- 4/5
The staff was great very personable and helpful.
- 4/5
Everything was great except bathroom was falling apart
- 2/5
I would never go back to this Hotel. We believed there was a Hotel Shuttle - there wasn’t - we were directed to a Free Public Shuttle. Day1 it didn’t show. On Day 2 we had to endure a barrage of Racial Abuse from a Black Gentleman on the Bus. When we were returning that evening. He was there again with another Man. The Abuse started again and after a while the Second Man Handed the First a Knife. He actually dropped it in passing so I knew exactly what it was. We were extremely worried. We had positioned ourselves near the Driver. He got out of his seat at one point and walked towards us. We were ready to defend ourselves but he walked past and went up and said something to the Driver, which we couldn’t discern. It was very intimidating and we were glad when our stop came along. There were others on the Bus making comments too but none as bad as the First Man. The Hotel should not be directing Guests, particularly White People, to this Shuttle. We’d never stay there again and The Parking Charges are annoying too.
- 2/5
This hotel was a disappointment not only because of its condition, but also because the photos were depicting clean and well maintained rooms. Don't be fooled into thinking you found a lovely hotel and a good price.
- 4/5
The experience was mixed. The counterperson upon check-in was unenthusiastic about her job and the welcome she provided. The hotel has very few parking spaces, leading to having most guests park in a garage across the street (which is validated, thankfully). The hotel itself is clean and quiet, the property is well kept,, and it has a large lobby and good breakfast options. All other staff we encountered were kind and professional. Housekeeping was hit and miss, as they kept forgetting to leave towels. We chose this hotel as it was a better price than staying in the central tourist part of downtown Charleston and is still in a good location to get around everywhere. I would consider staying here again, but would know what to expect next time.
- 3/5
The issue for my wife and I was the inadequate parking.
- 4/5
Very nice however the computers were not working properly the 1st time we arrived and when we came back 3 days later it was not again another problem arose.
- 3/5
When you first step in the door the rug that leads to the check in desk is filthy. The room was ok. Bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom is very small and the shower was moldy. A simple fix with some bleach cleaner.
- 1/5
Very shady location, very poor room conditions
- 4/5
Thank you for a pleasant stay.
- 2/5
Someone else was in room that they checked me into, put me in a smaller room...still haven't received credit. Changed rooms 2x...Room key didn't work 4 X (up n down in elevator), room light bulbs didn't work; parking lot floods; car scrapes badly on front portico driveway and then finally false fire alarm at 8:15 on Saturday morning!!
- 4/5
Did not eat breakfast and yes the as AC worked good.
- 3/5
The staff was very professional and kind. The room was not well cleaned. The shower had a constant drip that would not shut off. Shower door would not close completely.
- 4/5
Breakfast had variety.
- 5/5
Excellent employees
- 1/5
Staff didn’t see to care much.
- 4/5
The rooms are nice and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We did have some issues with the room but they weee all quickly rectified.
- 5/5
Parking lot was full. Paid for parking on the outside street as parking garage was further away. Got a ticket anyways cause I missed by 1 digit
- 1/5
Dirty place with poor service. No
- 1/5
The bathroom had so much mold. The shower head was covered in mold. Black mold in the corner of the first room they put us in. The fitness center was not that clean.
- 5/5
Didn’t shop.
- 3/5
The area is horrible
- 4/5
The full breakfast each morning was delicious. The coffee was superb. I usually do not drink coffee in the evening, this coffee was perfect.
- 2/5
The room and bathroom were dirty and had an unpleasant smell. The shower was dirty. Few if any room amenities. The thermostat was set to 60o - it was freezing!
- 5/5
Clean room, great sheets
- 3/5
Needed change for a $20 & they were unable to do that. Laundry was coin operated, unable to get that; suggest using the Square pay QR codes. Breakfast was very good, didn’t make it to the late afternoon snacks & beverages but that’s a very nice service. The area had lots of construction & the McDonalds within walking distance was totally mismanaged. Beware of the potholes in the city!

There was inadequate parking which meant we had to park in a parking structure across from the hotel which felt unsafe when coming in at night. The cleaning crew failed to fully replenish the towels (no wash cloths) after cleaning the room and when I called to request more towels it took several attempts to even get someone on the phone and when I finally did they told me I’d have to come get them. The next day it was the same thing, I went to the front desk to get more towels and the person at the front desk never even looked at from his phone to acknowledge me. He went to the back to get towels and was back there for quite a while. Another staff member came by while I was waiting and asked if everything was ok and I told him that someone was supposed to be helping but I’m not really sure if he even understood what I was asking as he never looked up at me. He went to the back to help and magically the first person came out with the towels. Turns out he was in the back just on his phone while I was waiting. Just not a great experience.
- 4/5
Rooms need updating and maintenance. Bathroom door split and separations along the entire lower door. Bathtub grout was very weathered and dinged
- 4/5
Had to wait out front in lobby for 10 minutes to check in before anyone showed up.. He wasn't very warm or courteous when we checked in. Could have been better for sure.
- 4/5
The location was close to who I was visiting
- 5/5
We did not like our room first offered, asked for another room and was very accommodating to us. Very satisfied! Wonderful staff
- 1/5
Area around it was scary and unsafe. Lots of construction going on. The staff at check-in was rude and very condescending. So bad that i reported him to the hotel manager.
- 4/5
The room was very old and run down, the bathroom in particular. The sink was obviously new but the rest looked decades old and damaged.
- 1/5
Front desk gaff friendly, but one man who patrol the lobby was rude and patronizing to our party and other guests. Had an unexplained extra charge on my bill that I am disputing.
- 3/5
Location is convenient to the VA hospital or MUSC, but the staff act like helping you is a burden and they'll charge you for parking even if you don't have a car.
- 5/5
Staff was awesome and breakfast was very good with many choices. Parking was an inconvenience as it was across the road in a different structure. KFC and McD next door but everything else a mile away. We would stay again!
- 4/5
It was a good stay
- 1/5
I didn’t feel safe walking from the parking garage to the hotel when I arrived late in the evening. The folks I was meeting on business told me I shouldn’t be staying in this area. Would not return.
- 3/5
Definitely the worst Holiday Inn suites ive ever stayed in, not clean and NOT taken care of properly for years. Also bed wasn't comfortable and our wash cloths were not changed out
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The gentleman named King who checked me in was the most helpful hotel employee I've met in a long time.
- 3/5
Although I had a good night's sleep and their breakfast was great, there were a few sags. One, the hotel is located in downtown and I had a trial trying to reach the hotel with heavy traffic and certain roads that forbids left turns. Two, they didn't have enough parking spaces and would have you park at a parking garage on the next block if their lot was full ( fortunately I didn't have that problem). Three, my room didn't have a TV,
- 5/5
Very hard to find and get to do all the construction in the area. Otherwise a pretty nice hotel and priced good for a downtown area.
- 3/5
Decent value for Charleston. Not the best facility but was a comfortable room and lobby.
- 5/5
The staff genuinely cared that we had a good stay. The manager of housekeeping was amazing in getting a problem resolved. The manager in charge of breakfast was greeting guests and directing them the breakfast. Even the woman bringing out food for the buffet greeted the guests.
- 5/5
Great Hotel and great amenities
- 4/5
Bathroom needed remodeling and was quite small. Parking needs to be expanded, so that guests don't have to use the deck next door. Breakfast was fine.
- 3/5
Our room overlooked a dumpster and trash filled parking lot. The area around the hotel felt very unsafe. The staff was very friendly. The room itself was okay, nothing special.
- 3/5
Except for one young man who checked us in and seemed quite irritated about the parking questions in the middle of a rainstorm and flooding, the front desk ladies were eond
- 4/5
The staff is always very nice and welcoming . The rooms are nice and beds are comfortable but the carpet seems very dirty .. Hallways are musty throughout . The parking is always an issue bc there aren’t enough spaces . The lobby has been remodeled and is nice .
- 3/5
The rooms were an OK clean, the maid staff did not replenish the coffee supplies or the empty toilet paper roll. Luckily they have 2 rolls. There were two front desk staff, one very pleasant. The other acted as though we were disturbing him. When we asked the wi-fi password he did not provide it, he said "it's written in your room key card" When I showed him it was not, he was not pleased and wrote it down in a separate card.
- 2/5
There was poop (dookie) on the comforter when we checked in . I informed the front desk staff and they said they would take care of it so we went to dinner after dropping our bags and upon return nothing was done so I put the comforter in the hall and went back to the front desk they finally brought us a clean one around 1 in the morning. .
- 1/5
Stuff was not polite at all,
- 5/5
Wasnt happy to have to pay for parking
- 4/5
Food was great, staff members were great, hotel room was clean, beds were comfortable and there weren’t any sounds of other guests through walls or floors. That part was quiet. Our toilet clogged at night one night and the front desk person promptly took care of it. Didn’t have to wait at all. Air conditioner made white noise 24/7. I had great control of the temperature with digital HVAC controls on the wall. Central heat and air. I just couldn’t get the fan sound to stop. I didn’t tell the hotel, no need.
- 5/5
Everything was lovely
- 5/5
The staff was warm and welcoming!
- 4/5
The TV "reception" was bad and was unwatchable, freezing every minute for 5+ seconds. The pool was outside. The whole time I was there, the door was wide open, which means the building was unsecured from the public. I know a guard wasn't watching any cameras as 3 different guests continuously chain-smoked on the pool deck. The surrounding buildings made a terrible noise, probably their AC units. Breakfast was great. Price was a good value.
- 4/5
Staff was great! Room was clean and had all the amenities needed. The neighbors next room over were a little loud but I guess weekend activity is to be expected.
- 3/5
Room was fine. Bkfst in the morning terrible. Parking situation even worse. You need to park across street which can be confusing and then find your way back to hotel. If you take wrong elevator you will be on wrong side and have to walk all the way around. Be aware before booking
- 2/5
The staff were friendly and helpful. The initial room we were put in the toilet did not work. The staff accommodated and changed our room for us. The following day the plumbing also had issues in the new room. Overall cleanliness was good and the property is in a decent location to downtown Charleston and the university hospital.
- 4/5
Bed exelent.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
It was really good. The staff is super friendly, everything was nice. The room, the shower door didn’t close and it was a little dirty but not a huge deal. The room was a little smaller than we were thinking but again, it’s not a huge deal. Overall we really enjoyed this stay.
- 5/5
Great location and friendly staff loved that we were 10 mins away from downtown.
- 5/5
Very comfortable
- 5/5
The area is safe and clean
- 4/5
Room was clean but needs maintenance. Bathroom door was damaged and difficult to open.
- 5/5
The staff was fantastic!! Helped with all my questions and ensured I got my Uber safely to go out. Room was comfy cool and quiet just what I needed before my visit at MUSC
- 4/5
Limited parking- can park in parking garage next door. Hotel validates the parking garage ticket. Breakfast is pretty decent.

- 5/5
Breakfast was great check in to check out was great. Friendly staff. Will stay again
- 5/5
Great hotel excellent price
- 2/5
Old installation, smelly corridors and room.
- 5/5
This hotel was great! Very good location!
- 5/5
Decent location. But nothing really in walking distance and you have to pay for parking
- 3/5
Keys didn’t work when I got to the room. When I went back, they changed rooms which was okay. New room had no AC going so very warm. Took awhile to get cool. Not a very friendly check out staff. Probably won’t stay again.
- 5/5
The front desk service was awesome ! I look forward to staying there again.
- 4/5
There is black mold in room 606’s bathroom
- 5/5
Staff is very helpful and nice. Room is large size and well appointed. Nice appliances in bathroom. Breakfast is great too. We had very enjoyable stay over there.
- 5/5
We stayed at this hotel for one week, from check in to check out was an excellent experience. Every single one of the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was always timely, delicious and staff member cleaning up or helping guest as needed. The only thing that I say could be corrected was the door/card reader entrance to the pool area was not working all week and they ran out of bottled water in the shop area for over 3 days but always had complimentary water with fresh fruit available….along with fresh popcorn and cookies midafternoon. Keep up the good work!
- 5/5
It was clean and breakfast was very good,
- 2/5
On the Peninsula /downtown Nice Staff Cold A/C Adult canned beverages available in the lobby Has a pool Cons: -Front driveway scrapes car bottoms and then I had to warn every Uber driver. -Door to pool broken and was usually held open, sucking out the A/C for first floor hallway near rooms -Mold in bathroom -Crumbling stucco on bath walls -No bath fan/ventilation -Gross looking marks on walls and ceiling which could easily be cleaned or touched up w/paint -Very dirty knobs to bedside lamps as well as to exit door on 1st floor -Large stain on carpet near room bathroom. -I know it happens, but after a long day, we noticed a roach in the room around midnight and slept w/the lights on -I paid about $800 w/fees and taxes (including $15/night parking) for 3 nights for this and wish I could have spent that $$ elsewhere. I have pics & will upload if allowed.
- 2/5
The shower water was scalding and would not change, too hot to wash hair and shower. Called front desk who just said they would let maintenance.
- 1/5
The room is dirty and smelly , requested the staff to move to other room, but they denied
- 3/5
We had some frustrating experiences at this hotel. The picture of the suite shows a two room suite, which is what we expected. When we arrived we were told that is only 1 room in the hotel and the other suites were just larger rooms which was very difficult with 2 young children. The receptionist was totally unhelpful in problem solving this or looking for adjoining rooms. Then the pool was closed for half our trip because it rained and rain apparently throws off the chemicals in the pool. Very disappointing as it seems to rain a lot in Charleston in the summer. If the parking lot fills up, the garage parking situation is tough. It adds about 10 minutes to every trip out. The room itself was clean and fairly updated. Breakfast was good. It is far from many of the tourist attractions compared to other hotels so given all the cons we would not stay again.
- 2/5
There was garbage piled up in the hallway by the elevators at check in at 5pm. There is a condemned building next door. There is a 15 dollar charge for parking, but there may not be a parking spot. There is black mold in the bathroom and a poorly repaired tub. The doors of the rooms and the bathroom looklike there was a flood on the 3rd floor and the whole place stunk like mold or trash as soon as you left the lobby. Never again.
- 5/5
The staff was very knowledgeable and respectful
- 5/5
Front desk staff was phenomenal!
- 5/5
Great place to be
- 4/5
Very little on site parking.
- 2/5
Nicest staff I’ve ever encountered- but not worth the money. Outlets were loose in the walls, light switches were loose. shower not installed properly so water poured onto the floor. The bathroom was moldy from this and the damp smell filled the room.
- 5/5
Staff was great.
- 1/5
Check in was horrible. I was given a smoking room with a non-smoking room reservation. I was checking in at almost 2am due to flight delays so this was already inconvenient. The front desk man working was not apologetic, not looking up from his computer or phone, and not helpful. The next room they gave me had A FAMILY IN IT!!! I woke them up at 2am and scared the mom so badly when I had keys to their room!!! It was unacceptable and when I came down for help he didn’t say sorry and said “well, those are your only options.” I said those ARENT options, there’s a smoking room and the second one wasn’t even empty!!!! So he said there’s nothing else he can do and since it’s still 2am at this point, I asked him to not cancel my smoking room until I could find something else because who knows if you can find a room at 2am in Charleston. So I called a Marriott across the street to get a room, and then when I asked him to cancel my reservation because I got a room he said he already had, never made eye contact, and never once apologized. He was awful, it was awful, and I literally made sure my friend canceled her reservation because it was her wedding weekend and I was not going to allow her to stay there for that!!! Unbelievable.
- 4/5
The hotel was excellent. Clean rooms, good food and equipped lobby. Have stayed on two trips and will again. We did have a problem with Expedia when booking the stay. Had to make two reservations in order to reserve two nights.
- 4/5
Shower was terrible.
- 3/5
Basic hotel. Clean enough except for the shower. Parking is a mess. Best bet is to just park in the deck next door.
- 3/5
Probably looked worn. Room was clean , but shower was Rusty, carpet looked worn and AC was loud. Chairs in lobby had stains on them. The abandoned building next door wasn’t a good feeling, but room was clean and having the food store there was nice .
- 4/5
Nice hotel
- 1/5
TV was not working. Placed work order, no one show up or called. Nice room but air conditioner made noise.
- 4/5
Power and water went off for a bit during our trip
- 4/5
Hotel was accommodating but the bathroom shower had black mold, this needs addressed
- 5/5
Had a pleasant stay.
- 5/5
Great front desk service.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing.
- 1/5
Staff members are really friendly, but they need to put more attention to the rooms……..
- 3/5
The morning employees were awesome. The breakfast was ok. The check in lady employee not so friendly. I had a small dog with me requested ahead of time 1st floor, she said no first floor rooms available. So I was given a room that the carpet needed to be shampooed . Also it had fleas. Must have been a dog room. My dog takes an expensive flea pill once a month. I was the one getting bit my fleas. I did not complain because the hotel was full. I will not stay they’re again.
- 1/5
My booking was cancelled without prior notification. I was stranded with children in South Carolina without a HOTEL.
- 5/5
Very nice! Close to everything
- 4/5
Nice hotel with nice rooms and breakfast. Great location to sites. Would definitely stay again if in town.
- 4/5
Close to the French Quarter with access to bus shuttle.
- 2/5
The front desk staff were terrible. They weren't very pleasant to us at all. We called the night before and asked if we could get early check in. We talked to someone at the reservations desk who talked to someone the front desk. He said they could accommodate the early check in. When we arrived at the hotel the next day for our check in. The 2 people at the front desk said no they couldn't check us in and no early check in available We told them about talking to reservations. The one rude woman said well I'm a manager and would never say that. The tone in her voice was unacceptable. She never even apologized. We asked if we could leave our bags and she did let us. We came back later at 5ish to check in and at least this time the woman at the desk was a little bit more nicer to us. When we checked out on our last day. The man at the front desk gave us our receipt. As I was waiting for our Uber driver, I noticed we were charged 3 days for parking. We did not have a car at all. i ran back in and explained this to him. He took it off our bill but never apologized to us for that either. The breakfast staff and the concierge was the nicest people there. We really appreciated everything they did for us.
- 1/5
Dark and dingy room. No working water available to fill water bottles, attendants not at desk and when found not friendly, seemed to be bothered. Charged parking even though it’s supposed to be included.
- 4/5
For the money, it's a safe and secure buy. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and spacious. Like other guests, we used Lyft/Uber to get around Charleston and avoided the hassle of urban traffic and parking. Our one major complaint was the shower. You had to reach in to turn it on, so you were soaked with cold water before it warmed up. Very, very poor design.
- 2/5
not much to really like.
- 3/5
It was clean, but needs some upgrades. Internet was off and on. Breakfast had good selection from eggs, cereal, pancakes, etc. Parking fees confusing. We were able to park at hotel so took Uber into the city for attractions. At checkout had a $15 per night charge which I questioned as unexpected and not explained at checkin
- 5/5
Nice place to stay.super clean, great service.
- 5/5
Check in was quick and very professional. Staff was very helpful.
