The hotel is praised for its central location and friendly staff. The rooms are spacious, with a townhome style layout, comfortable beds, and kitchen facilities. However, some guests found the stairs challenging, and noted the absence of an onsite bar/restaurant, swimming pool, and attached parking.

This location was absolutely perfect for exploring Charleston! This is not a luxury hotel (you will see tiny things that should be taken care of, like a hole that is patched but not painted) but it feels safe and clean and the staff is nice. Also, we loved that the room was two floors with the kitchen and a secondary 1/2 bath on the first floor---a set-up that works perfectly if you have two people trying to get ready at the same time or two people with different sleeping patterns. I would absolutely stay here again!

Right in the center of so many fun things! The room pictures don’t do it justice; the two queen beds are upstairs with a full bathroom and a balcony and downstairs is a full kitchen, half bath, and pullout couch with small dining table. Would definitely stay here again.

Best location in the city. Our room was great for a group of 3. Had a full kitchen and extra half bath which was perfect. Rooms are a bit dated but for the location it’s a great value.

Historical, charming. We loved the courtyard -- it was so peaceful & wonderful to hang out with our coffee and tea. All of the people working the desk were a pleasure to chat with and always greeted us when we walked in the door or were heading out. It was easy walking distance to so many great places to eat or drink. Try Charleston City Market, Pearlz & Magnolia's on East Bay, Dock Street Theater for Spoleto Festival, The Black Fedora Comedy Mystery Theatre.

We’d stayed before and had a good experience but this time the ac in the room wasn’t working and they rebooked us at a cheaper hotel on the other side of the city which is not where we needed to be for various family events that weekend. When we booked at a the market pavilion hotel a block away for $200 more per night we weren’t compensated at all. Very disappointed in church street inn.

Hotel is in an excellent location within walking distance of many of the things people want to do in the French Quarter. Only two complaints about our room on the second level was that the water pressure was terribly low in the shower and there was no nightstand on one side of the bed. very great staff and the courtyard was very enjoyable. Also appreciated the held luggage service.

Room entrance door jamb issue… door required slamming to fully close and lock. This was a two-double-bedroom with only one accessible electric receptacle. Bathroom light and exhaust fan controlled by a single switch… fan was extremely loud. One air conditioner louvre for entire room… blows air stream onto bed. One positive… This hotel is in a good location in the historic area, but it’s quite expensive considering the above stated issues.

Maybe I didn't read the amenities like I should have, but I was not aware that our room would not be serviced until after the third day. Also it was a two level room with the living area on first level and bedroom on second level with a dozen steps at least. We made it slowly but was a bit difficult with luggage. Just be mindful if you have any mobility issues. The location of Church Street Inn is the bet feature with it being directly across the street from the Historic Market and numerous tours of the city.

A/C worked well, location was INCREDIBLE for us, staff was really friendly, especially Ty, the courtyard was a great bonus for our kids to run around or to read a book or have a snack when we were in transition, and it was nice having a kitchen and full size fridge. Condition was worn, though some updates were done like the floors were newer, and vanities appeared nice but were not top quality, lots of paint chips in baseboards, but literally none of that mattered to us because the location was so good and it was half the price of anywhere else in that area. And we could not hear any neighbors, we could just hear some young adults talking in the courtyard but they werent out late. All in all, loved the location and everything else was average at best but for below average price in well well above average location.

This hotel was perfectly situated. Everything we wanted to do was within a 1 mile walk. There were amazing food options just around the corner. I loved the townhouse layout and full kitchen! We were able to keep snacks and beverages on hand so we didn't always have to go out and buy something. Also having a separate living space with a second bathroom on another floor was really nice for times when we were not wanting to wake up at the same hour. The little courtyard sitting area is lovely too.

Easy check-in. The hotel had a Filtered water unit. It was in a great location. Walking distance from everything. Location was the best part of my stay :| Shower, tub and sinks discharged dirty water. Unable to shower during my stay due to unsanitary shower. I travel 3-4 days per week for my job and stay in hotels all over the country. This was a first. Attempted to report the issue and was told the maintenance guy would be notified. Never happened...not even a call. Shower was dirty and had a residue from the brown water. Inquired and followed up the next day. I was told by the Front Desk that the maintenance guy was aware...that "what I saw was setiment...but nothing bad." Again, still no offer to address the problem, clean the bathroom or sinks....just nothing. Requested the manager's name. Was told that he was made aware---no call, no text, no email...zero response. This occurred on 2/25/26 and today is 3/4/26 ---Mr. Eric Curtis, GM...after 7 days, still has not offered a single acknowledgement, a gesture of good faith or made any attempt to make the situation right. I've traveled for my job for more than 10 years and have stayed in many Charleston hotels/bed & breakfast properties on multiple occasions over the years. Often my stays are in the more "historical" properties, so I know what to expect. I've never written a single negative review. If nothing else, maybe this review will help other business travelers choose their Charleston hotel more wisely. I sure will next time.

We love staying at The Church Street Inn each year because of it's charm and location. It is also fairly reasonable during the off season regarding availability and price. Staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. The room was not fully cleaned prior to our check in even though it was presented to us as ready. Once we got into the room I noticed a dirty fork in the sink of the kitchenette, a used bar of soap on the bathroom countertop and trash still in the bathroom trash can. These are minor items that didn't disrupt our stay or make us feel as though the rest of the room had not been prepared prior to our check in as the bed had fresh linens as well as fresh towels and wash cloths. Also, I would to suggest that parking be included with the stay as the additional daily charge is understandable but for the price point there should be a discount on the rate or the parking should be complimentary as it is not on site and there is not a valet service offered.

As a family of four, we loved having extra space and a kitchen with some real dishes. The location was amazing and the king bed was very comfortable. Our room had new windows and we heard zero street noise (it was quiet anyway bc it was off season but was still surprised) There is no daily housekeeping or amenities but the coffee in the lounge every morning was good. There is no parking, you park at a public city garage nearby. There was no valet parking when we were there because of low staff. No one at the hotel mentioned the daily “resort” fee (this is not anywhere close to a resort). We would definitely stay again for the unique two level floor plan and the location.

We loved the location!! Not enough hot water for a shower in the morning, but eh it wasn't that big of a deal, as it was just a rinse. We also couldn't figure out the keurig but there was coffee downstairs, so not a problem!!

Not a single chair in the bedroom. Only one lamp in the bedroom, no mat in a very slick bath tub. $25/day to park one block away. You had to have their parking pass to get your car out so when you checked out and got your car, you then had to drive back to the Inn to return their pass.

They will give you a card to park in a nearby parking garage, DONT USE IT! They will not explain that they will charge you $25/night + $12 service fee/night for parking with their card. $74 in total for 2 nights. It is actually cheaper to just go through the parking garage itself and not with their card. They did not explain that with the card they were still charging you through the hotel even though the parking garage itself wasn’t charging you. They made it seem like the card was free parking through the hotel and then got hit with a $74 parking charge for 2 nights when checking out.

Came with fully equipped kitchen area. Air conditioning and a walk out balcony. The room was clean but needs furniture upholstery to be cleaned. Check-in was slow and they put our luggage in someone else’s room… which they fixed and apologized for right away. I think there was only one person working to check people in at the main check in time. He was trying his best to help everybody.

Check in and out day shift staff was unprofessional, not welcoming or friendly. Did not even get up from her chair, we felt like we were completely inconveniencing her to check us in. We arrived at 230 PM and were told our room was not ready. (Not one room in the entire hotel). Were told not allowed to check in at all until exactly 4PM or later. Asked for a later check out and were told they were full and that was not possible. We did not see even one other guest our entire stay. No southern hospitality at thei Great location. Rooms nice.

This hotel is in the middle of everything in old Charleston. Parking is in an adjoining deck. A suburban sized vehicle is a tight squeeze. The rooms were clean and super quite. Our room was large and two stories. 1st level is a den with kitchen and 1/2 bath. 2nd is a bedroom, large closet, and large bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and 2 person garden tub. The tub is really useless because it takes forever to fill. Overall this hotel was wonderful for the price. Rarely do you leave feeling like you got a deal. My only complaint is that the property needs a little love because its slightly dated. However this would not keep me from staying here again. We enjoyed our stay.

I had read reviews beforehand and knew to expect a few signs of age throughout the property. So while I wasn't surprised, it’s clear the hotel could benefit from some thoughtful updates. One major hiccup during our stay was a city water shutdown. We received a text while already en route, letting us know we could choose to stay elsewhere. Unfortunately, that wasn’t really an option at that point. According to the front desk, the timing was out of their control, but we were told the work would happen overnight and only cause low pressure. In reality, we had no water at all the following day. It was disappointing, especially since one of toilets in the room didn’t even flush after service resumed. The biggest letdown, though, was the front desk staff. In past reviews, guests had praised the staff, but that was not our experience. During our stay, we encountered several employees at the front desk and not one greeted us. The person who checked us in was the one we saw most often, and despite passing her multiple times a day and always saying hello, she rarely responded and often seemed more engaged in whatever was playing on her computer or on a Facetime call. On our last day, when retrieving luggage we had stored she didn’t even recognize us and asked if we were checking in. Again, it's those little things.

There were a few janky things like a post it note over the broken peep hole in the door, remotes for fans and lights were cheap and barely functioning. We found hairs (not ours) in the bathtub. Location is good, Suite was clean. No real housekeeping, every three days. No continental type breakfast. Limited to sub par black coffee only. Really great boutique hotel in the middle of the French Quarter, close to the Market, shops, dining and everything else. I believe the rooms are all two stories, ours was, with a spacious sleeping area (2 beds) and full bath upstairs, and a living area with pull out sofa, full kitchen and 1/2 bath downstairs. I stayed for 2 nights with my 2 daughters and the space was ideal for our needs, especially 2 bathrooms with 3 women! The building, itself, was old, but pretty much everything is old in Charleston. More importantly, it was clean, comfortable, and the ac worked great! The staff was super friendly and accommodating too. There is a lovely courtyard, and a gym on the premises, which was also a nice perk. Could not have asked for a better stay. Thanks to all at the Church Street Inn!

Hotel is in a great location for dining, shopping and sight-seeing. There is an efficiency kitchen which is convenient. Lots of space in the two level suite. It is a bit run down but basically clean. I was surprised at how unfriendly the checkin clerk was at our arrival. I have never posted this type of negative review but this was over the top. As we were waiting to complete our registration, the clerk was very unfriendly to some people who came in to check out the hotel for the future.

I chose this hotel because of the location, the beautiful pictures and the "award winning" designation on Travelocity. Only one of those three things is true...it is in a prime location for touring Charleston. But there are a lot of properties in this location that do not look nearly as run down...especially for the price ($943 for three nights). You discover at check-in that housekeeping takes place every two days, not including Sunday...so no housekeeping during our stay. The entrance and front desk look like the entrance to a New York subway station, and the "welcome" was, by far, the least welcoming I've received in any hotel. The rooms themselves are clean and quiet, which is one redeeming factor once you make it through the eyesore of the front lobby. I couldn't help but notice a lot of disappointed looks on the faces of other guests as they first stepped in to the Church Street Inn. If the price was under $100, no problem. But with a premium $300+ price point, this place does not measure up. Charleston is an amazing place to visit...but spend your evenings in a different hotel.

My friends and I booked two rooms. When I got there minutes before them and checked in, they charged my card for the entire stay (not a hold), plus incidentals. They did not do that for my friends when they checked in. When I found out, I questioned it. They said it was their policy to charge the whole amount, so they lied to my face because they screwed up. When we checked out we said we wanted to split the bill. They said they would issue me a credit me for two-thirds. (takes 7-10 days, so I get to pay the interest). Then they gave me a receipt that didn't show the correct amount they charged. They said they would waive the parking fee and "not to worry" that it showed I had a balance due. When I looked at my credit card statement, they charged me not once but TWICE for the full amount plus incidentals, then another $75 incidental fee and then a mystery charge for ANOTHER $722 that had nothing to do with me. Of course when I called to talk to a manger, they weren't in yet. When I called Choice Hotels (they were very nice) they couldn't do anything for me and could see the $722 charge related to another person but couldn't tell me anything. Between the time I have wasted and the interest charges, I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone!!

This hotel is awesome & fair priced! Its layout is like a townhouse-two bathrooms, large bedroom w/a large walkin closet, plus a queen size pull out couch in the LR. It is clean with a traditional style. I loved it! Now to talk about the staff-they are the friendliest folks. I felt like they were friends, Shautea, Ms. Yonnie& Ingrid were so pleasant, helpful, accommodating it was beautiful to meet such ppl. I would stay here over and over again.

We picked this hotel for the location and were vety happy with it. The hotel was very unique with having 2 floors in our unit. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was perfect for our stay of 3 adults. Very clean and had everything we needed. We took advantage of the free coffee that was offered in the downstairs coffee room as well. They have a lovely courtyard thats lit up at night. We also paid the hotel for the in & out of the public parking garage that worked out great. We would definitely stay again.

There is no restaurant in the inn, but they have fresh coffee and a lovely courtyard with a fountain. There are many restaurants nearby (recommend TBonz Gill & Grill). We enjoyed a lovely evening listening to live jazz at Forte Jazz Lounge. It felt unsafe out in the streets afterward because it was late, we were in an area with bars, and the college had just graduated, so I don't know if that was an anomaly. The inn gives a pass for nearby parking in the municipal parking garage at $20/day and you can come and go as much as you want. We had no problems with vandalism and saw no graffiti or loiterers in the garage. Our bathroom had some bad quality cosmetic finishing, but everything was sparkling clean, and it was well stocked. The bed was medium firmness and comfy! Keep in mind that Ascend saves old commercial buildings from being demolished and repurposes them as inns, which I applaud, so there are creaky stairs.

Perfect location in downtown Charleston, right across the street from the markets! Restaurants galore, shopping, carriage rides and easy walking down to Rainbow Row and all the historic homes. Just a perfect stay, the hotel was very nice but had that historic feel with the grand staircase and the rooms were equipped with a kitchen, separate living and bedroom upstairs plus 1 1/2 baths. Would stay here anytime I was visiting Charleston! Will definitely be back someday! Very affordable in comparison to other downtown hotels but had a great vibe and a beautiful courtyard to enjoy morning coffee or anytime during the day to just relax and enjoy the weather.

This hotel was in a great location that was convenient to shopping and restaurants. Unfortunately, the person at the front desk when we checked in was extremely rude. We asked for towels after the second day and never received them. When we approached the desk clerk, we were (reluctantly) given the towels. The hotel needs some upkeep and could work on cleanliness. The courtyard is beautiful. When we booked the trip, the hotel advertised a full breakfast but we were told that there was no breakfast available except coffee. Note: I’ve NEVER left a bad review of a hotel but felt it necessary for future patrons.

Property looks like miniature condos with an upstairs and downstairs so keep in mind for the elderly. Parking is off site at public parking lot around the corner. Location is excellent thought, right in the heart of downtown near Meeting & King St. Housekeeping only cleans the rooms every 3-4 days so you may not get a cleaning if your there for a short weekend.

The hotel is in a great location. Rooms are very large and work very well when traveling with older children. The condition of the hotel was fair. Carpets in the hallway were stained with a few rips. I have stayed here before, so I knew what to expect. I was a little surprised how un-attentive the front desk staff was. It was almost like we were disturbing them when we said good morning.

When we arrived the front desk was unattended with a sign stating they would return shortly. We waited at least 20 minutes. When she returned we were not offered help with luggage or even a cart. We were charged $75 extra fee she explained was “in case we mess something in the room up”. She then gave me a paper that she said was the rules and pointed out a QR code to tip front desk and housekeeping even though there’s no housekeeping if you stay less than 4 nights? We did hear another nice gentleman offering help to other guests the next day. Our room had a chain hanging on the side of the door with no hardware on the other side and the deadbolt hardly worked.

On the upside, the staff was friendly and helpful. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone willing to see the perks of location, safety, and price and overlook generally minor cosmetic shortcomings. Also, the parking is one block away in a large parking garage. Temporary parking is available in front of the building for loading/unloading, but long-term parking is in the garage. Guests are given a garage pass that allows for unlimited parking access
