Reviews
The hotel reviews are mixed, with guests expressing both satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Common themes include issues with cleanliness, smell, and maintenance, as well as positive experiences with staff and location.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Convenient location
- Cleanliness and maintenance issues
- Unpleasant smells in rooms and hallways
- 3/5
I paid an extra $9 for free breakfast, but then there was no breakfast accept for coffee
- 3/5
The room was clean, but overall the property needed some attention. Parking was convenient. There were plenty of places to eat in proximity to the motel. If I was goint to score our stay on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7.
- 3/5
I booked a non-smoking room and apparently it was given to another guest because I was told when I arrived that the only room available was a smoking room. Bed sheets had cigarette burn holes and obviously it smelled like smoke. I endured the night though. Not an enjoyable stay for me.
- 1/5
I had a staff member stay here and it smelled like smoke and the cops were there almost every night. It was dirty and there was no room cleaning.
- 3/5
Rundown, mattresses were very uncomfortable, hard. Comforter and sheets had cigarette burns in them even though we were in a non-smoking room
- 4/5
Clean, spacious, friendly
- 5/5
they are awesome!!! rooms are clean and roomy and affordable
- 3/5
The gentleman who checked me in was great unfortunately there was no one there to check out. 0700 doors locked rang the doorbell, no one came. Called phone number taped to door twice no answer and hung up on me after 9 rings. Both times.
- 1/5
In the middle of the night, I woke up to use the bathroom and observed two to three cockroaches crawling across the bathroom floor. This was both unsanitary and distressing. I reported the issue to staff at checkout, but the only response I received was a verbal apology. No offer of a bill adjustment, compensation, or any other form of remediation was provided.
- 0.5/5
No breakfast they did advertised coffee but no coffee either do not stay here wouldn't wish this on no one not even my worst enemy TV did not work there was roaches in my room and I got switched into a room that was not what I had booked terrible experience staff wasn't very helpfull did not even bother to help out
- 0.5/5
Nothing
- 1/5
It had a bed. The water was hot in the shower. Broken light over bathroom sink didn't work and I couldn't read a book in the main room because the 2 lamps were extremely low wattage. Woke up in morning to see bugs on bathroom floor and bedroom floor unning for their lives.
- 4/5
Staff at check in and check out were great. The room was clean. A few things we noted, however, were that the lamps were in need of replacement/repair. They appear to both have a short. Also, the hairdryer in the bathroom did not work. Other than that, it was a good experience.
- 3/5
easy parking
- 2/5
The walls were pealing , it smells and some stain on welling was nasty and toliet just kept running
- 1/5
Beds and bathroom were okay Staff untrained. Charged us when We showed proof of prepayment. Exterior and stairs and glass doors and windows dirty
- 1/5
felt like it was section 8 housing , outside doors didnt close people sitting and smoking outside the entry doors , guys sleeping in chairs inside by ice machine , room stunk the worse hotel i ever stayed at
- 1/5
Just don't do it. Save your money. I know it's budget and you get what you paid for but I've stayed in other places with a similar price that were decent. This one is easily the worst I've ever stayed at. While I can overlook the dented walls, cigarette burns in the blankets, and busted up lamp shades, it's hard to overlook the toilet not flushing, cold showers, power outages in half of my room, a roach on the wall, and my key not working. Not to mention that the staff didn't really seem to care. Again, I know it's budget but yikes.
- 1.5/5
The room was not cleaned very well. The bathroom floor had dirt all over it, and the dresser had fingerprints and gunk all over the top of it. The bed was not comfortable. Only time we saw any staff was at the front desk, and he wasn’t overly friendly. We were woken up by loud noise outside our window and engines revving at midnight.
- 5/5
Wonderful
- 5/5
It does smell like smoke in the hallways but thats about the only complaint. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I cannot say that about some properties I have visited and it is very meaningful when you're road tripping and tired.
- 1/5
THIS hotel was nasty, customer service sucks and the hall place smells terrible
- 2/5
Overall, the room itself was ok, and the room is fairly nice and well appointed. - Toilet not securely fastened to the floor, it rocks, and it shouldn't. - No toilet paper holder on the wall, just a loose roll of toilet paper. - The clothes hook in the bathroom is loose and falling off the wall. - The bathroom hair dryer does not work. It seemed that the heating element was completely missing. - Bent shower curtain rod. - Light bulbs in the over-the-sink light were missing - Bathroom Mirror is attached so low that a 6-ft tall person cannot look directly into the mirror and has to bend over. - It took MANY minutes (maybe 5 minutes?) of running the water in the shower before hot water came out. - There were a few small holes in the walls in the bedroom. - Top of the dresser was pretty scuffed up. - Stains from an old roof leak were seen in the ceiling panel, but there did not seem to be an active leak. - For some reason, there was an ashtray in this non smoking room. - The lamp shade on the bedside lamp was bent. - Interior hallways need paint. - Interior stairways look quite old. - The front desk did not answer the phone when I called about the lack of hot water.
- 5/5
great staff, clean, quiet, comfortable
- 0.5/5
I called and the guy on the phone informed me that the room I rented had a strong cat urine odor so I cancelled my reservations
- 2.5/5
Location and price TV did not work. All the lamps did not have lightbulbs.
- 2/5
Very smelly, does NOT look like the photos at all! Bathroom door was falling off the hinges, floor was dirty and tub didn’t drain.
- 1.5/5
Perfect location I called to make sure my room was still confirmed. I was told by the gentleman that answered the phone that the room I reserved was dirty but it was ok because he had another room that had 2 beds and it was a smoking room and it was on the third floor. I was ok with the fact that the room had two beds instead of one, I was not happy that the room was on the third floor with no elevator. Really was not happy that the room was a smoking room. I reserved a non smoking room.
- 3/5
We were only there for about 10 hours mostly just to sleep, which is why we took a chance on this hotel. It’s fairly standard for a Red Roof Inn (think budget hotel!). The employees were very nice though and accommodating. The room wasn’t too bad, but could have been cleaner. The worst part was the smell from the hallway. We stuffed a towel under the door and opened the window; luckily that aired it out a bit or we would have had to leave.

- 1/5
Red paint and cans in walkway parking lot, mess, smell, no room ready, front desk gave me room that was taken already, walked in on people, dirty chairs with stains, tv not working properly, noisy people outside window smoking, for hours.
- 5/5
More towels and wash cloths...directions for use of TV...Bad directions on GPS to find the Inn...Somewhat messy exterior...
- 3/5
Back door was open and not locked to public. Hallway smelled like smoke, garbage all around the outside property and parking lot.
- 4/5
The attention received at all moments was wonderful. I don't understand why the lobby looked so messy, maybe they were doing some work.
- 2/5
The lock on my door had a bunch of masking tape all over it for some reason. There was supposed to be in-room coffee…none. I had to ring a buzzer twice then call in order to check out (this seems common lately..?) Expedia keeps on disappointing me. This is the third booking in a row I’ve had issues with.
- 1/5
Extremely dirty. Transients apparently living on site. Pet feces, everywhere.
- 5/5
Great
- 1/5
Housekeeping allowed an uninvited person in my room and never once has houskeeping came in my room to clean and i have been here over a week. When i got in the show the second day i was her, there was urine in the bathtub and down the side. When i had house keeping bring up cleaner the guy said he works the desk and that it was me that pissed in the bathtub and his hotel staff definitely would not have left that there. He didnt take the dirty wash rag used to clean the tub. He left it in my sink. I still have a pile of towels laying at my door and i took out my trash once already and have 2 more bags at my door to take plus whatever is in the trash cans.i am very unpleased and honestly i think there are people staying here that know the wherabouts of my 2 missing children are.

roaches. There were roaches - in the bathroom, and during the night, in the bed - I killed several, but didn't get them all. Overall the place is pretty run down and in poor condition. Guy at the front desk was super nice and helpful, but yeah, next time I'm spend a few dollars more for a place that's cleaner, newer, and without roaches.
- 0.5/5
Nothing No housekeeping, no clean linens, bugs ?in the room. Got locked in my room b/c it got swollen by the rain. Maintenance had to get me out, twice. I was told I would have a new room the next day, because the one they had was dirty. Never happened. When I left Wednesday night the desk asked me why I was leaving. I said I had no housekeeping or fresh linen. The front desk stated we can do that tomorrow. I also stated bugs were in the room. The hallway by the door had dirty shoe prints that were never mopped up. Please I want my money back. I was supposed to stay until Friday I left Wednesday night
- 5/5
Beds can be alittle more stable and not so noisy
- 5/5
10/10 recommended!!
- 3/5
Staff was friendly and concerned Sink leaked all over clean towels and floor. Room smelled like smoke even though we paid for non-smoking. Dirty old mattress was leaning against wall in hallway. Disrespectful people was staying next room to us. They were extended stay guest. Played loud band instruments all night. We had to leave our bathroom fan on all night to block the sound. People should not be aloud to live in hotel rooms!
- 2/5
Room next door had major problem with loud fan running all night, not sure about out safety. No one on duty when we went to check ou 6:45 am
- 0.5/5
Price Room dirty, the bed was falling apart, and roaches coming out from under the bed
- 5/5
The manager over the place I think his name was Josh was the nicest person! He really made the whole thing easy!
- 0.5/5
Bugs in the room paint peeling floors sticky beds uncomfortable tv was broken
- 4/5
Basic motel, with no pluses, a small room no frig or microwave. no reason le cost for what is provided.
- 1/5
Dog friendly doesn’t have to mean stench of dog. The rooms were not clean, broken sink basin, sower in handicapped room leaked all over the floor, broken furniture and very seedy on the outside.
- 3/5
Paid thru Expedia. Had to pay again at property. Received room w monthly construction workers already in it (after carrying a dog up the spooky stairs). Owner showed up and gave me everything I was supposed to receive but was told was unavailable. Hmmm? Room was fine otherwise. Except I paid twice for it and getting in was enraging.
- 5/5
Staff was kind and helpful. Receptionist noticed I was very tired and give me a bottom floor room close to the front. Able to park right outside the side door. Room is spacious and clean. TV works well. Climate control works well. I have to admit that I haven’t stayed at a RRI since I was paycheck to paycheck 20 years ago—now I am a 4 stars or more girl. Was desperate today b/c felt ill and could not drive anymore due to exhaustion, was an hour away from destination and just couldn’t make it. RRI saved me.
- 5/5
Have liked ref roof and especially the no fee for a pet
- 1/5
No hot water.man at the front desk was very rude.refused to refund us our money.beds where very uncomfortable.
- 1/5
Noises all night and next morning, nobody was in the reception to dropping off the card!!
- 4/5
You get what you pay for at this hotel. Bare minimum. The hotel is not a clean place. You will find roaches and the smell is pretty bad. Good lucking getting clean linen.
- 1/5
I checked in and the guy was very nice that checked me in. I went to my room started to get settled in and took a shower and I came out and found to Cockroaches walking acosss the fridge one on the desk and returned back to bathroom to have found another one. I gathered up my stuff and went to the front desk. I asked the guys for a full refund due to me having roaches in my room. I went to show him my video I took and he said no need to show me and advised he would do the full refund. I felt like he knows they have a roach issue due the fact he was so quick to offer my money back.
- 1/5
I do not recommend staying at this hotel. The front staff was not very hospitable...it took a while for someone to come out to check us in and we werent able to speak to anyone to check out. The entire facility had a horrible smell of drugs (ie marijuana). The staff cleans the rooms and bangs doors in the middle of the night, which makes sleeping difficult if you are a light sleeper. And most importantly...our sheets were dirty...there were stains on the pillows and sheets and appeared to be crumbs in our bed. During my stay, I incurred numerous bug bites, which after some research, i discovered are from bed bugs. I had found what appeared to be exoskeletons of bugs under the matress cover on the bed. The bites are so bad and causing a rash all over my arms, back and ankles. I would never stay here, unless you like the smell of pot and being eaten alive by bugs.
- 5/5
Everything was good. Would stay here again. Very good value. The only thing I would improve is that it is nice to get an itemized bill at checkout to remit to your employer.
- 3/5
Fine value for price
- 5/5
Great for the money. 2nd time there.
- 2/5
Dislikes.. the property is in major need of updates and repairs. The organization is cumbersome to say the least. 1. No elevators.. it was no problem for me but those who are handicapped.. this would be a major issue if an individual needing extra assistance was on second or third floors. 2. In order to get to your room, it was necessary to enter via doors outside and up steps. Again cumbersome for entry. It took a while to figure out how to navigate the building. 3 very funky/ bad smell on floors— from musty to” something is decaying “!. While this wasn’t the case in my immediate room area, I did not have to walk far on any floor long to experience a gagging sensation. 5. Overflowing dumpsters were in close proximity to the building entrance.. This gives the feeling of being in an unsafe, sleazy area. 6. No continental breakfast I did consider checking out and staying elsewhere but I would have lost the $ 117–
- 2/5
Service was pretty good but after checked into our room and got settled, we found a live adult bed bug on the bed. After looking further we found several dead ned bugs and other signs of bed bugs. When we informed the front desk they gave us a new room and that one appeared to be clean. Needless to say we were quite freaked out about it and petrified that we’d be bringing bed bugs home.
- 4/5
Room was adequate, no coffee, etc. walls had damage, not serious but something that should have been repaired.
- 4/5
Hotel has been recently renovated so was pleasant and comfortable. Area around hotel looked a little sketchy, but on the whole was safe and quiet
- 1/5
Had to call for 20 min till someone answered to check in then they gave us the wrong room
- 2/5
.
- 3/5
The property was ok until we found a roach in the bathroom
- 1/5
DO NOT STAY HERE
- 4/5
My only complaint would be the small strip of grass, bordering the parking area. I called it the sh$t strip where all the dogs go. It was gross and needed cleaned up. Also I believe some folks may be living in the rooms as they came outside to smoke and walk dogs in pajama pants all day long. This may be what the prior ‘seedy’ comments were referring to. We were not disturbed by this and had no issue. About a block or 2 down off Wayne ave there is an organic dispensary. Smelled it soon as I was on the exit ramp off I-81. Again it didn’t affect my stay but it’s helpful to know your surroundings.
- 5/5
It's a decent quiet place to stay in. No one bothers you. The staff is there when you need them. Everything you expect from a hotel at a great price. The rooms are clean.
- 3/5
The 1 night stay was decent for the money. But the room had a sickeningly sweet smelling air freshener that was hard to tolerate all night and a few light bulbs were out. Still, you get what you pay for and I didn't expect this to be a resort. The room had a nice desk with power outlets on it, as well as a microwave and refrigerator which was nice.
- 5/5
Enjoyed the Comfort, Cleanliness & Courtesies extended to us by the Wonderful Staff.
- 4/5
Enjoyed my stay at red roof. Comfortable bed. Only concern was no elevator.
- 3/5
Room wasn't terrible, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The stairways and halls were in need of cleaning. The shower in our room was not good. I would not go back.
- 1/5
The worst I have ever experienced in many years Of travel
- 2/5
Room was o.k. for first night. Second night there was waste water in the bathroom, and we had to move to another hotel. We have not received our refund yet!
- 2/5
The place was stinky and sketchy. We had to move rooms because the first room smelled so bad. The building exterior makes it look like it should be condemned. No breakfast either, not that I would want to eat anything made in that building. Cigarette burns all over the blankets. For the price I expected a lot more. However, the front desk was nice enough to switch us from a really stinky room to a less stinky room. I would never recommend this place. We should have just slept in our car.
- 2/5
Room had a feeling over overall dirtiness.
- 5/5
Always a pleasant experience and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Jay is the best!
- 1/5
The receptionist scammed me, he told that my reservation what’s not for that day, and made me make a other one, more expensive
- 3/5
There was water damage in the bathroom that made us feel like we were in a tenement building. There was a burn mark on the bedspread and we had a non-smoking room. Otherwise the room was ok for the age of the facility.
- 1/5
The place was NOT as pictured! Old, dirty and smelly. The room we were given must have been a smoking and pet friendly room. The "clean" towels had hair on them, the sheets had cigarette holes in them. So gross, we left, we booked a room in a different hotel. Will never go to a Red Roof again!
- 1/5
The gentleman who checked us in was fine. The hallway and rooms have a smoke odor. The first room we were checked into had a running toilet so they gave us another room. The shower did not drain. It was like taking a bath and shower at the same time. The mirror, around the bathroom sink, the end table had a smeared film on them. It was just not clean at all.
- 3/5
Good price. Sheets were not comfortable, somewhat picky. Terrible smell in the hallway.
- 3/5
room was ok but smelled like cigarette smoke.
- 2/5
Nothing unique. There are several competitor options from which to choose in this area offering much higher quality at lower rates. Never settle for this overpriced mediocracy
- 4/5
It was not directly on the Interstate and therefore quiet. On the other hand, the room was austere (eg no facial tissue) and floor was vinyl planking and cold and noisy. The room was non-smoking, but the aroma of lingering smoke was almost unbearable. We toughed it out but probably shouldn't have. Pets stayed for free (that's a BIG plus) and access was easy for dog to get outside. It was convenient to dining,
- 5/5
Everything was good for a older hotel
- 3/5
Nice beds and pillows. Great shower. No wifi
- 4/5
Friendly staff
- 1/5
They cancelled my reservation while I was driving. States they called me but they never made the attempt to call. Blamed me for not checking my email. I was driving and do not check my email while I am physically driving. Unprofessional and do not recommend.
- 2/5
Also, checked in and guest services was pleasant however went to room and the bed was messed up as if it was someone else room and the bathroom was a mess. Went back to guest services and had to get another room however no apology for the inconvenience. No breakfast was served as stated which I understand due to covid however covid bands are slowly lifting and they could advised guests of that.
- 4/5
The room was very nice. It looked like it was recently renovated. Overall the stay was good but their WiFi was awful! Hard to get on and hard to stay on. It sucked!!!
- 3/5
Great location with access to restaurants. I have no complaints with the hotel itself, except that there were several other customers that hung out in doorways smoking and swearing. Not pleasant to walk past. One guy forced his way in as I entered and said he didn’t want to deal with the “F-wad at the desk”. I wasn’t going to confront him or try to get in his way, but I did report him to the front desk agent who was a very nice guy. Very professional. Just not great clientele. Beds were comfy and room was very clean.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay at the Red Roof Inn Chambersburg. I'm in the process of moving and was pretty stressed out, but the room was quiet and restful.
- 3/5
A decent place to lay your head for the night but could use some updates.
- 1/5
I left as soon as soon as the stench smacked me in the face. Between the area and the smell of the room my family decided it was safest for us to leave. I asked for a partial refund at the front desk and was told to call hotel.com. After 5 hours i finally got a call back and was told that nothing could be done about a refund BUT that their management would be contacted and i would get a call back. Its been been 4 days and nothing. We literally walked, we gagged from the smell and turned around. The smell wasn't even the worst part. There was some body shop connected to the hotel which was open and anybody could walk right in through the back. This is by far the shadiest place ive ever booked a room in. The fact that no one even bothered to contact me is pretty bad too. Ive been traveling cross country and not one issue with any of the places. I was hoping hotels.com would at least help out but that didn't happen.
- 5/5
Ive stayed at multiple places in the area. This the ONLY place that is worth the cost. So far.
- 5/5
everything
- 3/5
We had a clean room up on second floor but had requested first due to two people who use canes just needed a bed more than a argument
- 4/5
Quick stop. Easy on and off from 81
- 1/5
Third room there in a row that was disgusting it was filthy they don't even clean the floor properly get all the carpet freshener up off the floor to try to make the room from smelling like pure filth you can smell mildew musty nasty smell and the comforters had burnt holes in them walking in that room was like walking into the thirties
- 4/5
the nightly rate was good for the area it is in, this staff were kind and quick with check in, however it was pretty noisy at night upstairs and next to my room, tolerable but not what I was looking to deal with at 2:30-3 am
- 4/5
Nothing here to either like or dislike. Staff was friendly and helped me with directions to the facility.
- 2/5
We requested a non-smoking room but it still smelled intensely of smoke. So much so to where we needed to go out and buy fabreeze, which still didn’t help. The pillows were also flat. Other than that it was alright. The service was great from the people at check in and check out.
- 5/5
Came in with a group of seven and several rooms. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Building is a bit old and some of the furniture is nicked a bit, but the flooring and bathrooms have been recently redone. A great value for the money.
- 5/5
Comfortable beds, safe inside halls even though you could smell cigarette smoke.
- 4/5
We reserved a non-smoking room and it smelled of cigarettes.
- 4/5
The desk clerk was extremely helpful. It seemed everyone smoked right outside the entrance that was beside our room causing it to smell like smoke. The overall stay was considered very good.
- 5/5
They were amazing and the room was so clean. Comfortable Bedding as well! So nice to go to such a clean room with the pandemic circumstance! We felt safe.
- 1/5
Hall way smelled of cigarette smoke room needs more attention.
- 3/5
The tv didnt work and the ac didn't work. You could smell the pot as soon as you walked down the hall.
- 3/5
We were traveling north from a winter in the south. Just an overnight in the midst of the coronavirus shut-down. Very minimal contacts. Barely populated but adequate. It's not really fair to make an evaluation based on the situation. We have stayed at Red Roofs before, and I would stay here again.
- 4/5
The staff were very helpful and friendly, particularly Linda who helped me work around the GPS non-existence of the address. Property is very pet friendly with several exercise designated areas.
- 5/5
It is a very quiet place to stay very comfortable and staff is wonderful
- 5/5
Was great thank you................................

Very easy check in and comfortable bed and pillows
- 4/5
Could have a coffee maker in the room. Breakfast was very minimal. Staff did not keep items replenished.
- 1/5
simply awful.
- 4/5
Reasonably priced budget hotel, safe w breakfast/coffee
- 2/5
Doesn’t have refrigerator, my tv didn’t work, toalete seat old etc
- 3/5
Front desk could gave been a little more friendly
- 2/5
A dead plant greeted me as soon as I walked into the lobby. The desk clerk was polite, that was a good thing. The whole motel had a bad odor. Is this what to expect at a pet friendly motel? The bedding was shabby. The door was filthy, with black hand prints. The bathroom did seem renovated in comparison with the bed area. A few hairs were in the shower. You get the picture, we stayed but were glad to make our exit in the morning. I would not recommend this motel to a friend.
- 3/5
I frequently stay at Red Roof Inns when traveling with my small dog. This place was pretty run down. The ceiling in our room was obviously damaged from water and not repaired but painted over. I'm honestly surprised red roof inn allows this facility to continue operating under their franchise.
- 3/5
No swimming pool and the breakfast was bad. There wasn't that much food to choose from. Very dissatisfied.
