Rooms have improved a bit over time but are what you can expect for the price. The new management was very accommodating and overall things look to be improving.

The room was nice and spacious, but the floor was dirty. There was a missing light bulb above the sink. The bathroom had visible mold in the grout. The heater had been removed and not been replaced. The towels were old and worn. The bed was sagging in the center. Although the AC was quiet, the fan could not be turned off (using up a lot of energy.)
- 3/5
Because of the cost, they don't clean the room everyday. Thus, need to ask and get some things such as shampoo.
- 4/5
A nice older property, basic comfortable room. Big parking area in front of rooms. Hot coffee in lobby in the mornings. There is a shopping center straight in front on the other side of the boulevard with Safeway and some stores.

This hotel should not be renting rooms! It is horrible!!! They do not clean rooms, bed bugs, holes in the ceiling, heaters do not work, Bedding and tub full of somebody's hair. When we went to the desk for a refund they charged and additional $84 dollars instead of refunding the price. I have an open dispute with my credit card company. The desk begs not to call Econo Lodge to just deal with them. Horrible!!! They took us to 4 different rooms to check for a better one, there are no better rooms. It is in need of total renovation!

Econo Lodge is a great value. The staff are friendly and they clean the rooms every day. This location has a grocery store and shopping across the street. Pool has cement in it so don’t believe the “heated pool” hype, but other than that no complaints.
- 3/5
The door to room 112 really needs to be replaced.
- 1/5
Rude clerk, noisy heater, uncomfortable bed. My daughter and I didn't get much sleep and left earlier than usual the next morning because it sucked.
- 3/5
Place is a little run down and the bedding isn’t the most cozy
- 5/5
The checkin went smoothly and we were able to quickly get our rooms. The receptionist was very kind and helpful.

We booked our stay here because our search was for "pet friendly" accommodations. Unfortunately, they were not pet friendly. Fortunately, the front desk graciously worked with us to make our stay. 5 stars for their compassion!
- 4/5
What a unique place! I was pleasantly surprised by the cable TV options, and the large shower tub felt like a luxurious hot tub experience. It really added to the overall enjoyment of my stay.
- 4/5
A lot of stores in walking distance, convenient location
- 5/5
It’s a very reasonable price, but the room is very little bit stinky smell, but you should open the AC at least couple hours and we will feel better put a big room
- 5/5
I've stayed here several times now and it's been great every time. It's in a safe location and quiet. A no frills place with clean rooms and easy parking. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. I will continue to book here whenever in town.
- 5/5
All was excellent.
- 1/5
Worst stay of my life. Horrible front desk and dirty/rundown room. They lied on ameneties.
- 4/5
The Econolodge was simple, but met our purposes. It was clean, comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had the disabled room, 103, and we put the chairs outside and you can see the sun set over Castro Valley.
- 5/5
For a no frills hotel, my room was clean, tidy, and with all the things one would need for an overnight stay. The staff was really kind and friendly. I would come back for sure and would recommend it to anyone on a budget like me, definitely.
- 1/5
It was the most disgusting place I ever stayed anywhere in the world. I couldn’t wait to leave in the morning.
- 3/5
The people were nice. It was nice to have a fridge and microwave. It was loud because it is on the boulevard, but convenient.
- 3/5
The folks at the front desk was nice and she let me check In early. The key card to my room was very bad though sometimes i had to try like 6 times before the magnetic strip works n door open.

Expedia, I recently booked a room for my elderly parents at an Econolodge in Castro Valley, Ca. The reservation confirmation was 72826114507415 I wanted to share that my parents and I experienced a very bad stay. Here's what happened: On the night of May 16th, I had gone two hours away to pick up my parents in Modesto, Ca and brought them to stay at the Econolodge in Castro Valley. It was after 10pm we were all tired. After checking in at the lobby, and my elderly parents to their room I was about to leave and somehow the door would not open from within. I thought that was odd, but maybe my mother had locked the door. I proceeded again to move the handle, lock and try shaking the door but it wouldn't open. We were trapped! I called the front office and they were unable to open the door either after trying. I got panicked then cause I felt in real trouble should we have a medical emergency, fire or something else. After about a half hour or so, the manager or someone in maintenance had to come into our room by way of the window! They eventually were able to free the door open. We were then asked to move to another room further down. I had to wake up my elderly father that had been sleeping just a few hours to tell him what had happened and why we had to move. He was very upset too at what was happening. To make matters worse, the room we got moved to smelled dank, like it had not used for a while. The TV did not work and there was construction debris and material nearby.
- 4/5
Clean, quiet place
- 3/5
Customer service was very rude. They made us move rooms and the room they put us in a room that was not in great condition.
- 1/5
I "realize" the [same] woman at check-in AND anytime i went to the office might not have felt well OR was stuck in a job she did not like OR previous people [throughout the years(?)] vandalized/stole/or distespectful to her OR was never taught basic "GLAD you are here!" skills???? When (at check out) Mike told and showed her bite marks (on his arms, neck face)she at first tried to brush it off saying "We have an externinator that takes care of the property." Never apologized, but did immediately radioed the maid "Be careful" and said she was going to contact exterminator. Mike thought bed bugs, but he was bit AS SOON AD he laid down. Note:I wanted to call the motel, it was on 4/15/24 to see if we could get partial or full refund, but am a Brain injury survivor.AND I do not believe the "she" would have done so.I hoped to give her opportunity to make it right, give warning i WAS going to leave review.(I love to give great reviews for great, friendly and knowlegable service even personal business phone calls.NOT bad ones.... IF person is having a bad day. Note:i did NOT get bit, brought a blanket to lay over my bed. Fridge needed defrosting.
- 5/5
Mostly - I appreciate the quiet room & good bed.
- 2/5
This place needs an overhaul. A complete renovation. Things falling apart N not working.
- 3/5
It's average and ok for the price. It's very dated and the breakfast is basic coffee with a cheap pastry. The staff was accommodating and there was plenty of parking
- 1/5
Not my first choice hotel
- 2/5
Its was quiet, but very dirty.
- 5/5
The location of the hotel is excellent, close to everything, parking, restaurants, freeways, shopping and entertainment.
- 5/5
The service was quick and simple, the room is spacious and comfortable.
- 5/5
Comfy beds! Thank you!!!
- 1/5
I have stayed at this property before and they allowed to put my deposit on my card. I came back the next day and all of sudden the staff required me to leave a cash deposit. I did not have any cash ($100) on me as I was there for a job. The site did not say anything about a cash deposit so i did not have that on hand. All story short i had to cancel and book at the property next door. This was VERY inconvenient and unprofessional. NEVER AGAIN.
- 5/5
Check in was smooth, place was quiet despit having nieghbors. Rite next to freeway entrance and food and grocery stores
- 2/5
The room I was given was NOTHING like photos on the website and the sink filled with water every time and took at least 30 minutes to drain. The vanity under the sink had broken drawers.
- 2/5
Management is not up to par.
- 1/5
They gave me a room but when i went to it the door was WIDE OPEN, bed messy, when i went to ask for a refund because, no thank you?, he tried giving me the runaround of “oh a customer just left”. So you gave me their room without housekeeping cleaning up? Disgusting.
- 5/5
Great Stay , Quiet
- 4/5
It was reasonable place to stay. I needed a place for my friend to stay in town. Only issued I had . Was trying to get in thev front door. It very hard to open. Scanner card didnt work that well. Other then that is waa ok. Plus my frind smoke. So did have a smoking room. That was a plus.
- 3/5
The Tv didn’t work. The plumbing in the shower was falling apart. There were no pretty flowers planted. No coffee pot in the room.
- 1/5
I already lost in two days for no power is on . Also I threw all no good freeze foods is melt. The worker seem dont care of it. No more visit there.
- 4/5
when you just need a place that you dont want to go thru any thought process to get..
- 4/5
Overall good hotel was quite clean and moderately comfortable. Needs a modern upgrade usb plug ins Would be nice… Shower could be better, so could the vending machines.
- 5/5
Comfortable!
- 5/5
Great room! Super clean. Loved it was vinyl flooring stead of old carpet as we seen in a lot of places. Great stay!
- 5/5
Easy check in and out. Quiet clean rooms, nice deep bathtubs
- 1/5
terrible front desk
- 2/5
First issue was the bed was a full not a queen! It felt like an oversized prison cell. Lighting was horrible the tomb was thrown together with mis-match furniture. The room felt like it was a converted storage room. Maybe just that room 218 in the back. The only + was there were no pest or rodents!
- 1/5
I checked in and was harassed by the front desk about not getting a smoking room because he was implying that I smelled like smoke. When I entered the room there was a gap at the bottom of the door once I closed it. There was a chair that was dirty and disgusting and the bed comforter had a cigarette burn. I immediately checked out! !!! I don't think it's fair that I still had to pay for the night. They offered another room but at that point I declined due to the rude customer service and the building looks like it's an to collapse. There are broken down cars in the parking lot.
- 1/5
It was dirty, loud and a overall horrible experience. People were screaming outside the door, slamming doors and hitting walls. The room and the bathroom felt gross and old and dirty. Worst experience staying at a hotel I’ve ever had.
- 4/5
Good room for the price. Decent view of the valley. Good access to groceries, services, and restaurants across the street, convenient for longer stays with the advantage of the room's mini-fridge and microwave. Room amenities were all in order, only problem was the hairdryer was broken. Good wi-fi speeds. Customer service and room cleaning service was reliable.
- 3/5
No coffee pot or Kleenex in room
- 5/5
Room was clean but outdated furniture. Overall still good clean hotel.
- 4/5
A bit rundown, but a great deal!
- 4/5
Room is fairly large, furnished ok, king size bed mattress is slightly lumpy ( I’m used to memory foam), the floor was probably swept but wife said it is dirty (gritty), parking is limited, there is no lobby no service no coffee etc. Nearest coffee is a nice walk across street and down near end of shopping center.
- 4/5
In short, just what I needed.
- 5/5
Nice place reasonably priced.
- 5/5
Big bath tub for 2 was nice.
- 4/5
I appreciate the non-carpet floor. The bed and sheets are clean and soft. The room has a feel of cleanliness. Best of all, I got to see a glimpse of the city lights over four palm trees, reminding me for a few seconds of Hawaii.
- 2/5
Very nice staff but was very disappointed in the condition of the room. Not very well taken care of.
- 2/5
Very cold check in. Stood outside on a cold evening talking through a window to a woman who did not speak English well. I was informed I would need to submit a $200 deposit against property damage and late checkout with a key (a magnetic card). I was not treated like a guest in any sense. No coffee anywhere on premise. The room was marginally clean, but very run down. It reminded me of a very old hostel. I can't image any of your customers would want to stay there if they saw how poorly it was run and maintained.
- 3/5
Ok
- 4/5
Cool
- 2/5
Room was too dark. There were only two night lamps on the nightstands. Overall an ok place to stay but there are better options for the same price or 10 bucks more.

The property was discussing. If it wasn't so late we would have left. Next time back to Clarion
- 4/5
Grabbed a room last minute . Good deal rooms a decent.
- 2/5
Heater made a loud sound every time it went on as if someone were breaking in and then it was so loud that it was like a train. Very hard to sleep.
- 1/5
1. Unfriendly check in staff 2. The room interior does not look clean 3. The requirement of $100 deposit in CASH 4. Strict check out procedure
- 5/5
Very nice management and housekeeping
- 4/5
Fine
- 5/5
excellent service and attention
- 5/5
Every body was good the room was right on time because I can't walk upstairs so my friend had one downstairs for me nice and clean big and beautiful and I just love the area and every chance I get I will be back and I would love to also have my room 105 thank you and I appreciate y'all see you soon Jacqueline Dunbar
- 4/5
What ruined the stay was the calling at 10:30 to push you out of your 11am checkout room and the knock on door, while still on phone with front office, was the maid. Standing there with look of "hurry up, your not suppose to be here". So we rushed out and drove off with me forgetting to get my $100 bill for deposit. The next morning i remembered about it and about 2pm got up to the office window and waited for manager to finish the call he was on. He then took my drivers lD went to drawer pulled out all the items for deposit. $100, copy of Drivers ID, and reciept i signed. That all was good and quick. Then I was gone.
- 1/5
This place needs a makeover! Just shoddy. Can hear other rooms, I got some ‘bites’ on my leg, the office staff was kinda rude. Bed was pretty old, I just found the wrong place
- 4/5
Great location
- 5/5
Very clean
- 1/5
So bad didn’t like it horrible place I end up going to another hotel the Hilton garden
- 5/5
Is clean and friendly environment
- 2/5
It was convenient for me, but service is not good. When I make reservations they don't tell you about extra deposit. I was not happy about that. I don't think I go back.
- 5/5
The area was nice and spacious and the church next to it was beautiful
- 4/5
My family has stayed here multiple times when they have come to visit and are always happy. It’s clean and quiet and reasonable.
- 5/5
Really nice place for the price. Only complaint was the show head was so low I couldn't stand under it and water pressure was low. Other than the shower situation everything was good.
- 3/5
Lights not working the ved smell bad every thing bad condition
- 4/5
All basic needs met… convenient location, quiet, parking, services nearby, and reasonably priced.
- 4/5
Just what I needed. Convenient location to where I was working. Quiet. Just the necessities I needed.
- 2/5
The bed was very uncomfortable, had a large dip in the middle which made our backs ache when we woke up.
- 5/5
I loved that it was non smoking rooms and area. The rooms did not have carpet that was very good. It was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. Also they had a great selection of movies and shows not like other things places. Tv but no options.
- 5/5
The room was newer and clean
- 5/5
I love the Spa bath tub and that the water temperature was great.
- 4/5
The front desk was good. The room was large and clean although the room was nonsmoking the covers had a huge cigarette hole in it. The top two covers. Bed was squeaky and the middle dipped in. On check out day I went to the store early and when I returned to the room before (9 am) my room key didn't work anymore. Hassle. Shower rod was secured with a piece of paper to keep it in place. (WOW) Nice quiet and peaceful other wise. Great location close to freeway.
- 2/5
It was okay until i had called the office in the morning to ask about staying another night and the lady in the office was so rude... I couldnt believe how she treated me. I definatly would never stay or recomend this place to anyone i care about. They really need to get rid of her. I
