The Umstead Hotel and Spa

The experience was just amazing. From welcome truffles made in house and spring water waiting for us in our room to the cozy robes and amazing room service.

Absolutely amazing hotel. This is the ONLY hotel I'll stay at when I visit Raleigh (Cary).

The room was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and always attentive to our needs and requests.

The hotel is beautiful the staff go above and beyond! You’ll find it hard to leave!!

Impeccable in every detail. For a girl’s weekend it was the best spa we have ever been to. I am so happy that we splurged and spent 2 nights because it made our stay so easy and relaxing. The rooms are immaculate and large; truffles at turndown were amazing. The pool service and sun area are top notch with delicious drinks and small plates. Outstanding staff that treat you like royalty! We can’t wait to go back and make it a tradition!

We booked a room for our anniversary. We are Raleigh natives and have always wanted to stay here but I think our expectations were too high. We couldn’t book a couples massage b/c we were told they get booked 2 months out. We had ants on our balcony. I was told check in was at 3:00 but we didn’t get to check in till 3:45. The staff at the front desk were snotty but the room service staff and cleaning staff were excellent. Being our anniversary and we had to ask if we could have a glass of champagne that was at the front desk at arrival. They have a neat fire pit for wedding parties only- it would be nice if they had those all along the outdoor patio for all guests of enjoy. The tv is dated and the soaking tub is not large enough for 2. I will say the robes were very nice.

The staff. Abdel went out of his way to get my sister extra chocolate for her birthday and found more of the delicious herbal tea for me. Our waitress during brunch was attentive without being intrusive. The food was fantastic. Cory gave me the best deep tissue massage that I have ever had, and tips for home stretches to help my back.

The bed was an absolute dream. The service from every staff member was exceptional. The amenities were fantastic. This hotel is everything you have read and heard about but better.

Portions were nonexistent and after spending $360 for dinner I left the table starving; not to mention, allowing jeans and t-shirts for "fine dining" is embarrassing. Needless to say, the second night my wife and I dined off the property and enjoyed a fine dining experience elsewhere.

Room was great and upgraded. Excellent turn down service. Food at cafe was excellent. Spa experience needs to be improved- quiet areas aren’t quiet, bring your swimsuit because they don’t tell everyone to do that and you miss out on amenities and massage therapist was heavy handed despite corrections.

Chairs at pool were moldy and towels were damp. Tons of ants around chairs and we were bit so many times we left the pool. The duvet had blood marks on it and when it slipped off the duvet cover we noticed it. Couldn’t get in the wet bar because the lock was stripped. Other than that is was okay.

Excellent property!! Well appointed rooms with great amenities. Booking with Expedia gives the option to pay in cash. This is not so. You must have a credit card to pay; however, an exception was made for me. So FYI have your credit card handy. Other than that everything was superb!

We stayed at The Umstead Hotel ($800/night room), and the experience was far below what I expected for that price. We had to wait an excessive amount of time just to get someone to take our order, and when they finally did, they refused to bring us coffee at certain tables. We waited forever for our food, which was frustrating and unacceptable. The restaurant was a letdown. The food okay, nothing special considering the high prices, but the desserts were terrible. Only the sundae was edible; any other dessert we tried tasted sour and bad. We ended up leaving most of them uneaten. The gallery was in terrible condition—dusty, dirty, with large cobwebs and bugs everywhere. It was unsettling, far from the clean, luxurious environment you'd expect. The bar experience was equally disappointing. We sat in the gallery of the bar and were completely unattended for over 90 min. When we finally decided to go inside to get a beer, they refused to serve us because they were closing. This was incredibly frustrating and not what you'd expect from a so-called luxury hotel. To add, I accidentally left a $40 charger in the room; after calling several times it was clear it was stolen and they don't keep track of their staff.

Dinner at the Herion was amazing and they explained every dish as well as accommodate some dietary restrictions. If you’re in the Raleigh area choose this hotel and spa. Except no substitute!!! You want be disappointed….

Phenomenal. Proposed to my girlfriend after brunch and planned a staycation. The service provided to help make this big day extra special was fantastic. Staff did such a great job helping us celebrate and the concierge service provided by Claire, Josh, and Debra to assist with the special day was more than I could ask for.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at this incredible hotel. It is absolutely beautiful, romantic and classy. The art work is gorgeous, the food is truly delicious and the staff is exceptional. We will only stay here from now on when visiting Raleigh.

What a perfect Mother’s Day getaway.

Historically been my favorite place to stay in Cary- the last two times I’ve stayed the registration desk has been rude.

My wife and I enjoyed our one-night stay so much that we plan to make it an annual event - and for more than one night. Our only misgiving was that we went into Raleigh for some sightseeing. We should have just stayed at the hotel and enjoyed ourselves. A real treat!

Service was excellent. Room has broken light switches and showed some age. Not being able to turn on bathroom lights was inconvenient. During check in a glass of warm, flat, sparkling wine was offered - it was likely opened and poured many hours before by the condition

Beautiful hotel. Spacious rooms and bathrooms. Beautiful patio overlooking the pond for dining. Nice .33 mile walking path around the pond. Water filter stations available to get water. Pleasant surprise. I would stay here again. Even with Friday traffic it only took us 15 -20 minutes to get to PNC arena for a hockey game.

Rooms were not quiet. Unable to nap during the day as furniture was being dragged across the floor next door. Poor sleeping. The room comes with flashing green ceiling lights. We ended up putting a butterfly bandage over the light just to be able to sleep at night. We would never stay here again.
