Reviews
Guests generally enjoy the unique atmosphere, beautiful grounds, and variety of dining options at this hotel. The staff is often praised for being friendly and helpful, but there are some complaints about unfriendly phone interactions and slow housekeeping service. The rooms are described as clean and comfortable, but some guests have issues with the mattresses, pillows, and internet connection.

location to our event at sons of norway halls and rooms were dark and dreary. lighting was too dim. our room was in the "garden level" so it was especially dreary. we were happy we only stayed one night.
- 5/5
Housekeeping did not make up my bed on the second day although I was out of the room until dinner time.
- 5/5
Very comfortable bed, nice big room. Fun property!
- 4/5
Restaurant had limited choices for dinner but choices were adequate. Breakfast , while room service ,could have been served warmer. Portion sizes for both meals were appropriate. Stairs were a bit much for older travelers . an elevator is available but location was not convenient due to room location
- 5/5
Pool is amazing. Kids had a great time. Room service is only available for breakfast, and this location does not have a hot tub, but none of that took away from the awesome experience.

Everything was great and loved the vibe and feel of everything. The only critique I have is the food at the Tavern, which is the only place we ate. It was very bland so that was disappointing. And looking at the reviews for the other restaurants at the hotel were mediocre so we didn’t want to try it. Overall It looks like it’s a very family/kid friendly place with a gigantic pool. The fire pits in the center of the property is nice to have. If you’re not a huge foodie, then this is a great place

The grounds and the decor, especially in the restaurant, were so lovely. No elevator was a challenge as we are elderly. We did not ask for help with our bags but we should have.

Really the only thing that was not excellent was trying to sit in the theater with those weird trays and eat a regular meal. I ended up with food down to front of me was uncomfortable to sit there It would’ve been nicer to have a table or something that was more appropriate to have a meal next time I would probably choose to eat dinner before seeing a movie and I wasn’t super thrilled with the breakfast items on the room service menu. The prices are also ridiculously high for drinks and for food, butother than that everything at this place was fantastic, clean, bed was comfortable, room was amazing and the staff was awesome. Definitely will be back to stay again.

Every single staff person was fantastic.
- 3/5
Signage is horrible. Large multi-use parking lot with no signs as to where check in is. Again, because of multi use property, it is extremely hard to find parking on site.
- 3/5
There were some cobwebs in the room and you can smell smoke from the fire pit and a loud noise at night that hurt the ears-not sure where it came from-but the restaurant/tavern/amenities was great-Also, I checked out and the guy said that’s it-thanks without putting my name in the system-then I get a checkout email asking if I’ve checked out
- 3/5
When I checked in around 10pm the staff member didn't say one word other than can I see your ID. Very transactional. Acted like he wanted to go back in the back- room and go back to playing video games. I couldn't believe it. Had to ask him one more question which was simply if it would be possible to sit outside with a fire going or something to enjoy our drink from the bar. He thought about helping but decided it was too much for him to provide any customer service he told us no and that was it. Overall the property was amazing. Everyone other than the late night check in guy was awesome. Not sure how a classy place like McMenamins let that guy slip through the Crack and get a hospitality service job.
- 5/5
Incredibly surprising and innovative. Would love to have stayed longer; just exceptional on all fronts. Staff was a bit lukewarm a number of times. I've had more welcoming experiences, however several of the staff met those expectations, just not all.
- 1/5
I got no rest what so ever at this place, loud music and people talking till almost 3am the whole building makes noise maybe being old but the pipes in the building creek. Its cool place to visit, but wont ever spend 150.00 on a night that wouldn't allow me to sleep in peace.
- 3/5
To pricey for what you get.
- 3/5
Lackluster servers and poor customer service
- 5/5
We had a little staycation and wanted to extend our weekends... The hotel and room is beautifully restored. I wish I had more time to explore all the great historic photographs scattered through the buildings. The room was lovely (on the third floor) with super high ceilings. We were able to enjoy a late night bite at the bar and was able to walk out dog on the grounds. We'd totally would come back.

Mcmenamins Anderson school is hands down our favorite place to stay!!! This was our 3rd trip. We went swimming this time and the pool is so amazing love the bamboo water shoots! We had lunch at the wood shop 😋 DELICIOUS! We will be staying here as often as we can and hope to enjoy more of your propertys!
- 5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time, thanks to the excellent restaurant and market on offer. The staff provided top-notch service with their helpful and kind attitude. Furthermore, the cleanliness and comprehensive amenities added to our satisfaction.
- 5/5
Lovely stay!
- 5/5
The Anderson school is AMAZING we love this place so much!! The decorations, the lights, food, pool restaurants! Everything's wonderful thank you 😊
- 5/5
Rooms are cool and the property are creatively themed
- 5/5
Coffee in the room please.
- 5/5
Stayed for one night for a bike overnight adventure. It was great- beautiful grounds, drinks, food, and a movie! Beautiful location right off the amazing Burke Gilman/Sammamish River trail. Only thing missing was a hot tub.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our mid-week stay. It was clean, comfy, and quiet.
- 5/5
Beautiful area!
- 5/5
Everybody was super nice and the checkout time was fairly lenient I absolutely loved the atmosphere it was super great would definitely recommend if youre staying in washington!!!
- 4/5
Fun campus style hotel! The only thing I would have liked to have in the room that wasn't present is a coffee machine and fridge.
- 5/5
A beautiful property and unique rooms and restaurants options. And a great value.
- 5/5
Clean room, polite staff, very cool property. Loves the choices of restaurants and the pool!
- 5/5
Great campus and venue for shows
- 5/5
Great rooms, super fun vibe, makes for a quirky staycation
- 5/5
Very fun! Love being able to have coffee in the morning.
- 4/5
Great room, great location, great food and drink options. Only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because the shower never got hot. Lukewarm showers kinda suck.
- 5/5
we would stay here again.
- 4/5
The room wasn’t ready when we checked in 40 minutes after their scheduled check in time and there was mold under the caulk in the shower and room. We’ve been to this property before when it first opened and had no issues and this experience was mostly positive, just a couple small things to not get complacent on would be great.
- 5/5
My room was very comfortable and large. I loved the big windows. The staff was extremely accommodating at the hotel and at he restaurants. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and will come back.
- 5/5
LOVED staying at the Anderson House! Such a unique and fun vibe. Every person we interacted with working at the hotel were so warm and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Will definitely be coming back!
- 3/5
The rooms need refrigerators to keep beverages in and for medical reasons. The room was OK. Heating was so so in the room.
- 5/5
Love McMenamins. Fun atmosphere. Great service.
- 5/5
Cool place, shuffle board, great bar, good food, comfortable cozy rooms.
- 5/5
This place is amazing. From the hotel to the Tavern. Highly recommended. Five stars plus
- 5/5
Employees at the front desk and in the Market were just lovely!
- 5/5
The school theme made my stay more engaging and fun. All the extra little places were easy to find and explore. The staff was helpful and friendly everywhere I went. The food was pricey but delicious. I would stay again!
- 5/5
Whole experience. Staff, food, atmosphere. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
So much fun here! Great property, no need to go anywhere else. Spacious, clean room.
- 5/5
Clean place with lots of activities and a great staff
- 3/5
We only had dinner there at the Tavern it was excellent! We loved dinner. The room was tidy however no amenities like shampoos, lotion etc. the bed was hard as a rock made my hips hurt laying on it. Temps went from hot to cold back and forth. Very loud street noise however easily blocked out with my white noise on my phone. No refrigerator in the room that would have been nice with some waters, staff doesn’t offer any help with luggage. Other than those minor inconveniences the grounds were beautiful I love the artwork everywhere and all the interesting lighting. The trails weaving around the wonderful landscaping is just magical! I wanted to see the movie but no time.
- 5/5
A truly unique property made us feel as though we stumbled across a hidden gem. Staff were friendly and professional, regardless of front desk, bar, restaurant or housekeeping. Try it, you’ll like it.
- 4/5
The really only drawback was the breakfast service. It was actually terrible. Slow and unresponsive. The food was good when it came but the order wasn't as requested and took a while to correct. I also don't like the dark French roast coffee but that's just my taste. It would be nice to have a medium roast available as well.
- 4/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!
- 5/5
Hotel is quirky and fun. Several bars and restaurants on property. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
We had a great stay here!
- 5/5
i didnt see alot of staff, one ones i did encounter were helpful and friendly. the grounds were incredible. The beer was delightful as was my room
- 5/5
Super fun, unique property. Family friendly options. Kids LOVED the pool. Adults loved the artistic flare in a historical location. Bonus points for free robes to walk across the lot in the chilly weather to the pool!
- 5/5
Fun experience
- 5/5
It's always been a fun place, and the various offerings there are a benefit. The mouldings, however, in my room, were very dirty and dusty. All else great.
- 5/5
Our room was spacious and bed was very Comfortable. The room had a great air/heating system and easy to operate. Shower was good and products were nice. The pool was large and a fun place to start off our morning! The property was beautifully decorated and easy to walk around. A map was provided at the hotel when we checked in. Even though this property was in middle of downtown, it was quiet and parking was easy.
- 5/5
I love this place. No notes!
- 5/5
I've been to quite a few McMenamins properties, but this one is my favorite. I LOVE all the plants and trees around the property. The outdoor fireplaces were really cozy, and the whole place felt magical. All the staff we interacted with were very nice. The food was great, too! I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- 5/5
We loved this hotel so much we stayed on the property and made full advantage of the surroundings. There is so much to see! The grounds are charming and well lit- we ate at 3 of the restaurants- had 1 vegetarian with us and she was able to find something interesting to eat at each restaurant. I noticed people strolling the hallways on several occasions to look at the artwork, history on the walls. This is a well done, friendly, non-cookie cutter hotel which will mesmerize everyone. I've stayed at another McMenamins hotel in the past and enjoy the originality of each! The lagoon pool is wonderful! We had a great time here.
- 5/5
There are so many restaurant choices and things to do that we will have to come back to experience them all.
- 4/5
It is great that it is pet friendly-including the outdoor areas of restaurants! In the down side the designated pet rooms are on the lower level like a daylight basement. Our room stunk like a dirty dog. Thankfully, upon our request the staff moved us to a nice room on floor 3. We ate both dinner and breakfast at The Tavern. Dinner was fine. Breakfast was delicious! Hotel parking is hard to find when the restaurants are busy.
- 4/5
Convenient, nice amenities and staff.
- 5/5
We loved the gardens and the lessons in local history. We wish we had more time to enjoy it. We’ll be back!
- 4/5
An interestingly converted school and grounds. Staff were attentive and friendly. A much more interesting option than cookie cutter budget hotel chains.
- 4/5
The Facilities were cool. The Bars were fun to hang out and relax, and the food was good. The room was nice and had a home-like feel. The 3 things that got to me was the lack of a mini fridge, and the chairs in the room were like ones from an old dining set. They were nice looking, but not comfortable at all. This led to sitting on the bed rather then the chairs and that didn't leave support for the back. Therefore I ended up not spending a lot of time in the room. The last thing was the shower. It was very small. That being said, I could deal with that, but the water pressure was barely more then flicking water with your fingers. I've seen it rain harder then that in the PNW. With those 3 things being the exception, it was a good stay.
- 5/5
Saw a movie what a nice option
- 5/5
Great location for attending an event at Chateau St. Michelle! Loved checking out the different bars and having so many ammenities in one place.
- 5/5
Everything was unique. Fun and informative rooms and hallways, cozy accommodations, lovely grounds, fun restaurants with good food and fun themes. Eat-in movie theater with first run movies. Loved it and recommended to visitors. Will go back!
- 5/5
Excellent property with lots of activities, bars and dining options.
- 4/5
Unique and charming Hotel with adjoined restaurants and grounds. Old converted schoolroom so rooms are a bit sparse. Wifi was horrible so not good for business stay.
- 4/5
Beautiful gardens & grounds. Friendly & helpful staff. Great drinks at Nui Nui, the tiki bar above the pool. Room was large and comfortable; however, the bed pillows were ready to be replaced. I was looking forward to enjoying some time in the pool, but I was disappointed to find the pool really crowded due to swimming lessons. Overall, it was a nice stay and I liked how McMenamins repurposed an old school and created a unique experience for guests that included local history and fun artwork throughout hotel & restaurants.
- 3/5
Really cool place. Kind of a destination hotel. Front desk staff was super. Would have given better review but service at the restaurants was horrid. Started at NuiNui and left after 15 minutes of absolutely no service. Went to the Woodshed and was getting ready to leave when I was finally acknowledged. Food was fine but nothing to write home about
- 5/5
The Anderson School is a great location. Beautiful garden area to just sit, enjoy a beverage or meal. The pool is very nice too. Love the tiki bar!! Always enjoy our stays at the McMenamins locations.
- 5/5
We love the vibe of Anderson School! It feels like you are nestled away in a quiet spot even though main streets border the property. Lots of restaurant/entertainment options and friendly, responsive staff. We'll be back!
- 5/5
Woodshop service a bit slow on Friday night die to unforseen circumstances they did their best to compensate for the delay
- 3/5
The second time I've stayed at this hotel. I picked the hotel because my kid likes the movie and the swimming pool. Because summer, the hotel has an old smell and the rooms feel stuffy. I hope to open the window, but it is not openable. I had a hard time sleeping, but all the kid-friendly features are good.
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay.
- 5/5
A great trip for the family with a fun pool!
- 5/5
Staying in a converted school was a uniquely fun experience!
- 4/5
The hotel, restaurants and gardens are great! I really enjoyed walking around the facility.
- 5/5
The bars and restaurants are great. Good food and staff are very friendly. Whimsical deco thru out is fun and interesting. Rooms are unimpressive. Dimly lit, so they provide a flashlight?. Pedestal sinks in bathrooms, so not much space for toiletries, makeup, etc. Shower head had poor water flow, but enough to get job done. Coffee they provided was good first day, but weak the next.
- 5/5
Wonderful local resort
- 4/5
Our entire stay was excellent, except it took 2 days for the A/C to cool the room to a satisfactory level. Service, cleanliness, and food and drinks were outstanding. Live music was an unexpected bonus.
- 5/5
Rooms need mini refrigerator and coffee maker
- 5/5
Great bars to visit
- 5/5
Adorable and cute come to mind. Excellent service. We enjoyed our stay.
- 2/5
This place is not worth the fee. Great concept but poorly executed. Beds are hard and pillows are small, cheap plastic shower stalls and food is underwhelming and over priced.
- 5/5
They gifted us a bottle of wine for our anniversary. So sweet. Everyone was so kind and helpful.
- 5/5
This hotel is very cool, absolutely love the chill atmosphere and cozy aesthetic. Plus the landscaping is beautifully done, love all the native and edible plants. Overall excellent, drinks were great, staff were friendly, I would 100% stay here again and recommend to friends and family.
- 5/5
Great atmosphere, we especially enjoyed the pool.
- 3/5
Quirky and fun. Rooms lack a fridge and coffee/coffee maker. No decaf. Coffee limited to the morning, only. Did not clean room (no clean room please signage). Staff was friendly and efficient.
- 2/5
Room was extremely small not suited for a wheelchair bound person.
- 4/5
My experience was good. I like the size of the rooms.
- 5/5
What a fun place to stay!
- 5/5
We love staying here! Great restaurant options, lots to do there, beautiful grounds. One thing I wish the hotel would consider is keeping the bars open til midnight, even during the week. Also, its fun to stay on the 3rd floor where the principals office bar is. However, disappointing that we were there on a Tuesday and its only open fri/sat. Overall though, always a great place to stay.
- 5/5
Amazing staff, great food, lovely overall!
- 5/5
Loved our stay at this unique hotel. Very quiet. Downtown Bothell walkable to shops and restaurants as well as a river trail.
- 5/5
Secluded and quiet stay.
- 5/5
Cute and quirky.
- 3/5
Not a good business option. No secure internet and I found I could not get temperature below 70 - too warm to sleep. At checkout, when I mentioned these things the clerk just chuckled? Was definitely not inclined to return. Wanted to have a drink and watch baseball but the bar “lost” their remote so only tv was Wheel of Fortune. Room was nicely appointed and bed was comfortable.
- 4/5
Interesting place. Didn't get to experience it as arrived at 11pm and left early. Looks good for a weekend.
- 5/5
A wonderful place for a staycation. The fireplace in the Tavern restaurant is amazing!!
- 5/5
The site borders between spectacle, event, and just to the right of amazing to visit. Definitely not the typical hotel but worth staying! Had a great dinner at the wood shop, some amazing shrimp and grits at the Tavern, and a pretty good Old fashion at one of the garden bars! A great time!
- 3/5
The property was great, our room was definitely not cleaned well before we checked in. Upon arriving the guy at the desk asked if it was my first time staying with them, I said yes. He handed me some papers, didn’t really tell me much. I was listening to the gal next to him check in her guests, telling them about different dining and entertainment options. First thing I noticed in our room was a straw with lipstick on it laying on the bathroom floor. We ended up extending our stay for another night. We had to get our keys extended and they still stopped working. The day we were checking out, I had misplaced my phone so was looking under the bed and other areas where it may have fallen or was misplaced. I found a dirty bra under the chair and a jar of lotion under the bed. I went to the front desk to see if it was turned into lost and found but nobody was at the desk. Waited over 10 mins nobody came so I returned to the room. The room should have been inspected and cleaned properly before we checked in. Otherwise the property, bars, and food were great.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Great atmosphere
- 1/5
I changed rooms three times because of thick dust . I ended up not being able to sleep so I left the night I arrived . The dust was so thick on the bed and night stands . Three different rooms. It was all witnessed by a staff member.
- 4/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Unique boutique hotel with a ton of amenities available
- 5/5
Very interesting property with lots of local history. Very good food and ambience and staff are always top notch.
- 5/5
I love Anderson school house. Cute property and very friendly and helpful staff. Good food choices
- 5/5
Got several Passport stamps and earned a free T-shirt!
- 5/5
Fantastic historic hotel with lots of bars and restaurants! Great heated pool and plenty to explore and see in the area!
- 5/5
I love McMenamins! So friendly and so many fun things to do.
- 4/5
My sister and I were really excited to stay here but the staff wasn’t friendly at all. We had a drink and dinner one night, went for a swim, and everywhere it felt like we had to make an effort to get staff attention to serve/help us. Disappointed because we spend a lot of money at McMenamins all over.
- 5/5
Appreciate getting our usual room for our holiday stay to spend time with family and friends in Kirkland.
- 5/5
So much attention to detail, and honoring local history
- 5/5
Our 3rd trip back to McMenimans to stay for Xmas & also to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Love this place, so clean/comfy & such interesting decor!! Great food options, love the gift shop! My husband loves the fire pits outside! We will be back soon!
- 5/5
Easy check in, Beautiful Property, nice staff, Quiet & Comfortable...
- 5/5
The hotel is is a fun repurposing of a cool school building. The courtyard area is great for gathering with friends or making new ones. Great to have several food and beverage options on premises.
- 5/5
Great price, enjoyed the stay
- 5/5
I love this hotel! I would definitely stay here again! The staff is all so kind and welcoming!
- 5/5
A fun unique place to stay
- 5/5
Another great McMenamins property. Close to the Sammamish Trail for a nice walk along the river. Fun weekend getaway.
- 5/5
Very Friendly Staff especially late at night
- 5/5
Staff, food, ambiance and art make for a great stay. Just wish we stayed one more day to watch a movie and swim. Until next time.
- 5/5
Great staff. Nice stay
- 5/5
Lovely experience.
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
Love this place. So fun with kiddos, pool and food options they love!
- 5/5
The former school is such a unique vibe for a hotel, but combine that with the way McMennamins has respectfully brought the stories of many former teachers, administrators, coaches and other local celebrities to life through Art was incredible. There are three full restaurants on site. My wife and I ate at the Woodshop and played a game of shuffleboard while we were there. Then we went to Nui Nui Polynesian Grill for dessert. Both restaurants food was great and the ambiance was top notch! There is a theatre on site as well, but by the time we finished dinner it was too late to make the final showing. I absolutely loved this and I am excited to check out the other McMennamins properties throughout the northwest.
- 5/5
Very comfortable bed and nice down pillows.
- 4/5
The hotel was portion was great, the restaurant not so much. We ate at the restaurant on site and even though we were one of about three people there it took almost 40 min to get our food. After we got our food the server asked if we would like another drink and that took over 20 min to get.
- 5/5
Very nice atmosphere in general.
- 5/5
Fun place to stay while visiting son at UW Bothell.
- 5/5
Not just a stay, an experience. Can’t wait to go back
- 5/5
I loved the ambience of the property! Including the pool. Unfortunately I could hear noice from the other rooms that was a little annoying when trying to sleep but i did have ear plugs handy and that did help a bit.
- 5/5
I have visited many McMenamin's properties in Oregon and Washington but this was my first time staying at one and I loved it! The room was so spacious and comfortable! The property is beautiful and there's so much to do all in one spot. No need to go elsewhere. I'll be returning for sure!
- 5/5
A unique experience above all other hotel stays!
- 5/5
This is the second McMenamin's property I've stayed at. I love the whole vMcMenamin's vibe. The Anderson School itself is fantastic. The beds are super comfortable and the decor and touches of local history throughout were wonderful. The tiki bar, Nui Nui, overlooking the swimming pool, was an absolute delight. If I had to nitpick, I would suggest they play more exotica music to enhance the environment and more vegan dining options would be really appreciated. We didn't eat at the hotel as much as we would have liked and instead found those options elsewhere. I look forward to returning at some point.
- 5/5
Fun place to stay. Always appreciate the McMenamin's projects, and the Anderson School is no exception. Beautiful property with lots to do. Wish the rooms had coffee in them, but otherwise it was a great stay!
- 5/5
Had a great time good bars, good food, and close to all the Wineries
- 5/5
Pretty big place with a lot of options
- 5/5
We love staying here. The highlights are the friendly staff and the neatly-curated historical rooms. There's something for everyone on the grounds as well. The saltwater pool is a must-go! Our cups were a little dusty and the rooms are starting to show a little wear and tear since they first opened, but we'll be back regardless!
- 5/5
My room was great, high ceilings, super comfy bed with yummy sheets, the tavern restaurant was great for breakfast and the tiki place across the lot was fabulous. Every staff member I dealt with was accommodating and friendly!
- 5/5
Had such a relaxing stay. Great staff, very polite.
- 5/5
Entire grounds and atmosphere is fun and comfortable. Whether you want activity or solitude there is a place for you. Quirky artwork everywhere you turn. Rooms large, spotless, comfortable and quiet (even AC). Food is a tad overpriced and beer is just ok but the drinks and variety of places to enjoy them (both indoor and outdoor) are really good. No need to go anywhere else after you check in. They have everything right on location. Love all the McMenamins properties.
- 5/5
The Anderson School is the perfect getaway. A large enough property that you may not even notice there are other people staying at the hotel. But small enough that all 3 restaurants are within a few steps, good food and good atmosphere as always when dining at McMenamins. Rooms were very clean, large, and comfortable. Will be coming back again.
- 5/5
Awesome place. So fun . Bars close early. Things are rickety. Staff was great. With all or any negatives would still stay here cause it’s fun. Hey pool ,be open next time
- 5/5
Lovely and unique property only drawback is the vegetation is a little overgrown. Parking can be a challenge as noted by the property’s description however this should not deter a stay! The “shed” Whiskey bar was the highlight. The bar tender was fun and knowledgeable.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure. Great space, comfortable rooms, friendly staff.
- 5/5
Our first time at a Mcmenamins and such a fun experience!
- 5/5
Excellent property and great amenities. Fantastic staff.
