Reviews
The hotel receives mixed reviews with guests appreciating its beautiful and historic property, clean rooms, and excellent customer service. However, there are consistent complaints about long wait times, poor food quality, and high prices.
- Beautiful and historic property
- Clean rooms and comfortable beds
- Long wait times at check-in, restaurant, and valet
- Poor food quality and limited dining options

The fact that we can enjoy a resort like experience with a beautiful pool, tennis and pickle ball courts, gym and spa at the foot of the Oakland/Berkeley hills is really fantastic. The housekeeping and support staff are likewise great, warm and always available for any last minute requests like a vase for flowers. I love the Claremont and we will be back for sure. 5 stars all the way.
- 5/5
What a class act. It meant so much to feel heard and gave that special touch. Their food and drinks were also delicious. We had a gem salad with rotisserie chicken and lime drops (light on the simple syrup). For breakfast we split the bagel. Only a catch there, but they gave us crème freche instead of cream cheese and pickled onions instead of regular red onions. Note to room service: regular cream cheese goes on a bagel not crème freche and pickled onions go on tacos, not bagels. It’s a thing ;) Otherwise, stellar time and will be back. I loved how quiet the property was and the beds were super comfortable and fluffy, but not too soft. Thank you for a wonderful memory!!

It was an excellent stay. All the hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating.

The room was very small, and we could only open the window. Sometimes the smell of perfume was very strong, and there was nothing we could do except open the door
- 5/5
Rooms had ll necessary amenities.
- 4/5
Neighborhood and property are very nice. Hotel is old, so the wear can be seen in some places like my room furnishings and elevator. Lobby and restaurant seem more recently updated. Gym looked very nice and nice that classes are included, but I didn't get to attend. Likely wouldn't stay here again unless I was going to use amenities everyday.
- 4/5
It is an old elegant nice building with a nice restaurant and nice coffee shop. I left a hair dryer brush in the bathroom in our room and I called the hotel shortly after we left, thinking I would recover my brush for sure and they told me they didn’t find it. We were in between graduations of my daughter. Even though I left the brush behind in the room, a hotel of that price and prestige should have employees that respond for things left behind. So BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR STUFF if you stay there.
- 5/5
We had a very simple room, but it was still perfect. The bar and the restaurant are great places to just hang out. My wife loved her spa treatment. The only thing to know is it's also a club that there are swim meets and practices and what not so it might not be the best place if you're looking for lounge pool time during one of those events.
- 5/5
We stayed at the property for graduation week. The staff were very helpful and the property was beautiful. The restaurant on site was also great.

When we walked in there was a terrible stench in the lobby that we also had in our room. Like dirty socks mixed with BO!!! The smell was so bad we spent the night under the covers! We could not take it anymore and left first thing in the morning. However, I will say that the next morning the stench was gone in the lobby with the doors open. It was horrific. I have never experienced that at a hotel. The rooms were quite worn. Bathroom was new and nice (little water pressure in shower) but rooms were old and stinky. The view we had at the back of the hotel was really really bad. Looked like we were looking onto a junk yard.

Our server for dinner, Mario, was the best one we've ever had. Just excellent in every way. Hotel was very good, clean. We did have a loud mechanical issue with our HVAC duct which we reported and also contact from Metropolis stating that we didn't pay for parking, which we did before we left. No one from the hotel has called me back to say it was resolved.
- 3/5
Parking was difficult with automation. Difficult getting out. Need a gate person. Gate automated bar almost hit my hood. Valets were on their phones not helpful. Would consider not staying thete until they fix it. A five star hotel needs 5 star personnel. Not more automation
- 4/5
Needs some upgrades. Fridge was broken, no microwave in the room.

Concierge was very helpful. The music being played in the hotel. The bed was not well made and the pillows had to be replaced with something much softer. The bed was too hard. Our room was supposed to have a Bay view; not really; small slats in the current on the 6th floor. Disappointing!

I love this place. The luggage trolleys make a TON of noise, 24/7 as they run the halls, and there was construction, without disclosure, so it was not amazing as usual, but it's still a first class experience.
- 5/5
From the grounds, rooms and health club to the amazingly helpful staff, this hotel is awesome!
- 5/5
We were very pleased with our room and the customer service. The Bell man provided exceptional service. The staff was very attentive to our needs. It's a great place to stay. This will be our spot in Berkeley from now on.
- 5/5
The facilities were great. Our daughter loved the pool and friends she made!
- 5/5
Incredible -- it is expensive but the hotel staff and the property itself are remarkable
- 4/5
Parking was confusing - not managed by the hotel but you get a discount if you are staying or eating- so confusing if you pay on arrival. It’s a beautiful resort and hotel. Wonderful staff. Beds were comfy. Our view was terrible though and because we had friends staying on a similar rate when I saw their views I was very angry. We also had the garbage men early one morning!
- 5/5
The check in was easy, the room was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean, lovely bathroom and bath products. My partner said 'that was probably the most amazing spa experience I’ve ever had (& I’m a spa junkie lol!) INCREDIBLE from the customer service to the treatments. The pool is lovely and a great resort like experience in the Berkeley/Oakland area. Wonderful on every level.
- 5/5
I always enjoy my time at the Claremont. This time I did not rent a car and the only thing I missed was access to a nearby store to pickup essentials. A small gift shop would be something to consider.

First time visitor to this hotel and I was expecting a luxury stay with views and relaxation. The view outside my window was of a wall. There was no view and it was very disappointing. We were charged for the ‘amenities’ of which we didn’t use, as the weather was not great, and swimming lessons were taking place on the Friday when we visited. We only went to the ‘club’ to check out the facilities and have one drink. We spent a lot of money, and dined there also. The drinks and food were great. But very disappointed with the room and lack of a view
- 5/5
If you're a fan of older hotels, this one is a gem. Not too far from campus and not far from hiking trails to terrific Fuse of Golden Gate bridge on a clear day.
- 5/5
Beautiful property with lots of historical character and modern amenities. Effie at the front desk and the concierge were particularly helpful. We enjoyed the tennis courts, pickleball, pool and jacuzzi, locker rooms and lovely lounging areas.
- 4/5
Nice room, could have been made up better.

My stay at Claremont Resort & Club was absolutely amazing. The hotel is beautiful, with stunning Bay views, elegant historic charm, and a relaxing atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the staff made us feel so welcomed from the moment we arrived.

If you are visiting your child at Cal, staying at the Claremont is a no-brainer if you are looking for a bit (or a lot) more than a typical hotel stay.
- 4/5
Beautiful historic facility, truly fantastic fitness facilities and services, and kind, professional staff. The rooms have a bit of deferred maintenance (peeling paint/wallpaper, some dirty carpets in common areas), but are comfortable and nicely appointed in general. The A/C unit was not working in the first room I was assigned, but the staff rectified the situation to the best of their ability, and made sure that the rest of my stay would be comfortable.
- 3/5
Space was clean, only two staff members were nice to me.

The Claremont Hotel is a Wonderful Hotel. It is a beautiful property. The staff were very friendly and helpful the food at the two restaurants that I enjoyed eating at was excellent.
- 5/5
I had a wonderful three night stay at the claremont Hotel. The Staff was very nice and the Property is amazing.
- 4/5
Lovely property. You will feel very safe here. I think we may have been in the lobby at a weird time as the woman at reception seemed rushed when we checked in. Later, when we were checking out, another woman was at the reception desk. She was fine but never smiled. So either my child taking a few pieces of candy from the Easter baskets was annoying, or she was having a "off" morning. The bell hop, the people at the luggage desk, and valet were lovely.
- 1/5
The air conditioning unit is so loud we had to turn it off to sleep. Green and red lights blink in the ceiling above the bed every time you move, the engineer came and put black electrical tape over the lights. One of our towels had holes in it. Not what we expected for the price.

I am in love with this hotel
- 5/5
The Claremont felt like an educational experience with the history of the resort. I loved the property, the nature, the architecture. My only knock: the carpets need a steam cleaning, but California is dusty in general, so it’s not a bug knock. 10/10 will stay again!
- 4/5
Beautiful Hotel, but I was put in the older wing. Had to go down, then walk the take another elevator to my room which was fine, but the main light took 30 sec to turn on when entering. For an expensive hotel, that was not fun stumbling around trying find another switch to work
- 4/5
Front desk is polite the most. There is no 5* wording and mannerism. Wait staff is indifferent and tired most of the evenings we dined there. A man who served at breakfast in a cafe was consistently dismissive and gloomy. Considering high end prices we expected a bit more enthusiasm and friendliness typical for such properties. That attitude takes away from the experience.
- 5/5
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the amenities that they provided which made us feel like we were right at home.
- 5/5
What a view. We loved our dinner on the terrace. All the staff were super kind and helpful.
- 5/5
We had a large room with a good view. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The robes and towels were very soft. The property has an excellent gym, and a nice atmosphere.
- 5/5
We had been on the road for a week and stayed here for a 2 night break, it was an oasis in the city. The spa, gym, pool are spectacular.
- 3/5
While the Claremont is a great historic property with lovely grounds and views, the overall value erodes quickly. Parking pricing is complicated and doesn't seem to work the way the front desk thinks it does. More importantly, there is a substantial resort fee. If you aren't taking full advantage (swimming, hot tubbing, playing tennis), you're just subsidizing other guests' activities.

Stayed here years ago and wanted to stay again. Located close to many of the things we wanted to do, which was nice. The staff were super helpful and very friendly.
- 5/5
The rest of the staff were equally friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The hotel itself was clean, well-maintained, and very aesthetically pleasing. However, the fifth floor did have a noticeable musty odor, reminiscent of old or stale cigarette smoke. Additionally, the bed was quite firm, which may not suit those who prefer a softer mattress. The restaurant experience was average. While the staff were attentive and kind—kind enough to remove a drink I didn’t enjoy from the bill—the food and beverages did not particularly stand out. Overall, despite a few minor drawbacks, we had a positive experience and would consider staying here again in the future.

- 4/5
Fantastic amenities make this our go to, preferred choice for a staycation within the greater Bay area. The athletic facilities and spa services are standouts, as is the strong sense of history that you receive by simply walking around the hotel and common areas. Housekeeping is wonderful. Rooms are spacious, and well appointed. There are small signs of deferred maintenance here and there, such as dirty carpets in the entryway, and some peeling wallpaper inside the rooms themselves, but none of this distracted from what was an all-around wonderful stay at the Claremont. We will surely return and always look forward to subsequent visits.
- 5/5
Wonderful in every single way
- 5/5
Loved our stay. The place is wonderful, everything was so clean and the staff was so helpful and friendly. The club house, with the pool and gym were also really nice!
- 5/5
Very solid hotel, in a good area of the East Bay with a great hiking trail right behind the property. Perfect for a weekend getaway. Just remember your phone chargers not many options for juicing up the battery.
- 4/5
Top notch fitness facilities and a wonderful sense of history make any stay at the Claremont resort a special one. Staff is attentive and professional. Housekeeping is wonderful. Some of the common areas need a bit of attention (dirty carpets, stuffed chairs needed some attention), and there is some deferred maintenance in the rooms (peeling wallpaper, small tear in bench upholstery), but we absolutely love this place overall, and it remains one of our favorite destinations for a staycation in the greater Bay Area.
- 5/5
Lovely views Nice clean room with everything I needed
- 4/5
Very nice stay. Room could use some fit and finish repairs, but very nice overall. Staff was excellent. Amenities are incredible. Will absolutely stay again.
- 5/5
From the moment my UBER dropped me off and the nice young man at the front entrance welcomed me and closed my car door it was perfect. Smooth check in helpful concierge and a spotless beautiful room and bathroom with a lovely view. Resort like amenities for my partner to enjoy today. Awesome and unrivaled in the SF Bay Area.

Amazing property
- 2/5
The hotel smelled like rotten fish for half our stay. It seemed the smelled was coming from the carpet. The HVAC in our room stopped working and when the engineer came to fix it, he mentioned that the hotel is old so we should just open the window. The spa was dated and and very cold rooms, it was hard to enjoy a massage. They didn’t not have their own amenities so we were asked to use “the club”. Which was overcrowded, dirty with hair on the floor of the showers. I was very disappointed especially paying $300 for treatment. I will not be coming back.

The room - we stayed in a 2 queen, standard room. It is very small, so small that our suitcases barely fit. There was no area to put down a regular sized suit case. We've stayed at a Best Western that had more room. The ice bucket was used. There was also trash left behind by previous guests in the dresser.

The restaurant experience was less than satisfactory. We were in a back area with very slow service. Very noisy. The waiter was pleasant but clearly serving too many tables. The food just wasn’t very good.
- 5/5
Very clean and super friendly staff.
- 4/5
Welcoming staff room was nicely appointed. I asked for and paid for an upgrade to a Bay view. There was no view in room 502. Only by twisting around and look could one see trees but no bay. At checkout I showed pictures of the non view. The room manager apologies and took off the upgrade cost. This should not happen.

I had an incredible time at The Claremont in Berkeley! The elegant hotel provided top-notch service and a luxurious room with amazing views. I adored the fantastic dining choices and had a great time working out in their well-equipped gym. The highlight was definitely my tennis lesson with a skilled coach who really helped improve my game. Overall, my stay was amazing and I can't wait to stay again in the future!

Room is good size. Bed is nice and firm. Ground is beautiful. We enjoy the beautiful grounds that the hotel offers.
- 5/5
The service was overall good. The front desk staff at night when I checked in at 11:30 pm on 19 January 2026 ,was very friendly and welcoming. However, the check-out staff at 1:45 pm, on 20 January 2026 ,an Asian woman with white hair, was quite unfriendly and not very approachable. When my husband asked if the $45 USD credit for food didn't require any additional payment, she responded rather curtly, "Can't you see it on the receipt, there's no extra charge." This response and her demeanor aren't suitable for a 5-star hotel front desk staff. Some staff members need training and improvement in customer service, especially this particular staff. Every time I stay here and she is working, we have a poor experience.

I am absolutely in love with this hotel. The hotel itself and amenities are wonderful but the staff is exceptional. My family had an unexpected tragedy occur during our trip which resulted in a last minute stay, when Alex at the front desk found out he went above and beyond. His gesture of kindness and thoughtfulness for myself and my children was very touching and I will be forever grateful. Fan for life right here.
- 5/5
Beautiful property and lovely rooms.
- 3/5
The worst high-end hotel/club experience
- 5/5
The accessible room was well designed, spacious, and grab bars in good locations. The shower and tub configuration was perfect. Much like a Japanese style bath done American-style. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Handicap parking was very convenient to accessible rooms. The Club also convenient. Appreciated having NHK-World TV on the offerings.
- 5/5
Literally the best staff ever
- 2/5
I just don’t understand if I couldn’t check in early, why did you take my ID and run my credit card to them tell me that I can’t check in! Secondly to try and charge me almost the same fee for one night of stay to check in early is outrageous. I come back later and check in, come right back downstairs for dinner, and go back upstairs only to find out that room keys don’t work and battery on door needs to be changed out. I will say Jeanie in concierge was very pleasant and helpful on the phone!
- 4/5
Property has a very good location. Service is very good and the food/beverage is very good/ Older property but wekk kept. We would stay here again.

Clean room. Great mattress. Excellent linens. Great housekeeping ( smoothly/quickly swapped out a non-functioning in room coffee maker). Staff was gracious and attentive/responsive. Lobby bar food and drink top notch. Minor note some room features could use a refurbish. Would happily stay here again .

- 4/5
The room size and configurations vary a lot. It’s an older hotel which can be charming, but in our case the room was very small and not much space for hanging clothes nor chest of drawers. If you request via the Hotel directly it might be best.
- 4/5
Should include free breakfast! It will add more value for the price ( from customer point of view!)

Once again, the Claremont provided the perfect spot for my stay during a conference. The room, services, and location are all the best. I look forward to staying again as soon as possible.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel, beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was exceptional. My room was not cleaned after my first day which was disappointing. But other than that, I would highly recommend.
- 5/5
Classic upscale resort without being pretentious. Found it very warm and inviting. Small overlooked areas around the exterior of the Hotel could use some attention/cleanup, but overall very excellent.
- 3/5
Please keep the pool/ hot tub open later!! 9pm is quite early to close these. Also, our coffee was not replenished with room cleaning and we had to wait over 45 min for someone to bring us some.

The view from this hotel is great. The amenities is fantastic they have gray gym pool tennis court lots of parking. It's very close to downtown Berkeley and you can take public transportation to downtown SF fairly easily, lots for dinning options and hiking options.
- 5/5
We came there to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we had never been there. We were not disappointed. The room, staff, accommodations, pool, gym, tennis courts, coffee, tea and water were all provided. It was above our expectations. Also the view and room were impeccable. We will be back

- 4/5
Feels dated, exclusive and isolated.
- 5/5
Yes it was an amazing stay. Effie at the front desk was nice and Christian was amazing helping me to my gorgeous room. Definitely loved it
- 3/5
The room was in good condition. But the TV buzzed and it was a long journey to actually get to the room—like you had to take two elevators and walk through a myriad of hallways to get to the room. It was not worth what I was charged.
- 3/5
It’s impossible to find a parking space. It’s even more galling that overnight parking is $35 but a valet drop off (outside front door) is also $35. So I spent 20 mins finding a space then had to hump luggage for what seemed like miles in the dark when I could’ve just handed my car key to a perfect stranger. Then we got hit for $49 to brig our pet. This really is not made clear when signing up thru Expedia. So lots of extra costs. Finally, anyone stung needs to know it’s a circus with weddings and parties going on. It’s a huge hotel and very noisy. That is all…
- 4/5
Some of the costs and fees were not super clear. We thought we had paid for everything in our prepaid rate except for parking but then got over $100 bill at the end with all the additional fees we were not aware of. Otherwise a good day would just rather have those fees be more clear and present on the website or when booking.
- 5/5
great room. amazing staff
- 5/5
Great spot with amazing views. Loved the gym, coffee shop and restaurant. My room felt old but was nice and clean and had an amazing view.
- 3/5
We received massages at the spa the next day and we had amazing encounters for the spa. We both enjoyed our massages and the experience overall.
- 5/5
When we checked in, a birthday card and gourmet cookies and sparkling water awaited us in our room. The room was spacious and well appointed with a fabulous distant view of the bay, SF and Bay Bridge. The spa and club were conveniently located with many fitness options. We swam laps every morning before breakfast.
- 1/5
I’m giving one star because I was informed upon my departure that I was being charged an additional $57 PER DAY to access the pool and gym area. Literally just access. Sitting by the pool costs you $57 on top of the room costs. In no way was this communicated at booking or when entering the pool/gym area. Beware.

I enjoyed my stay at the Claremont. The front desk and Concierge were welcoming. Hats off to Effie! My classic room was on the 7th floor. I could see the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges through my dormer window. The updated bathroom was roomy and bright; the bedroom spacious and comfortable. Proximity to College Avenue led to good dining, and closeness to UCB made trips there a breeze. Having lived near the Hotel in the past, I was pleased to finally stay there.

Very clean rooms and friendly staffs.
- 5/5
Fast easy check in super nice staff great room nice restaurant and bar. Practically perfect in every way.
- 5/5
This is a really pretty and nicely maintained property. The rooms are clean and comfortable, we enjoyed the health club amenities, the restaurant and coffee shop served great food and drinks and the views of the city and bay are outstanding.
- 5/5
Clean room, great staff, wonderful property
- 5/5
Very nice experience
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay! Front desk super friendly and kind! Our room was very clean and comfortable!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent!
- 5/5
Hope to return!
- 5/5
Gorgeous property. Great location if you have kids at UC Berkeley.
- 3/5
Hotel is very old , decoretion and looking very nice . an old house smell when come inside the hotel. the comforter is very old and poor . the bed sheet is made by 100% polyester , it look like a 2 star hotel bed sheet , so poor .
- 4/5
Sadly the most historic and opulent hotel in the Bay is showing it's age. My room was fairly priced and was a great size and the bathroom was above average. The cleaning ladies were fabulous. The check in slower than molasses. My room had torn, worn shades, torn worn carpeting and my sheets were ripped. Nothing can beat the view though and the Claremont while not up to it's old standards is still a great destination when you are in that part of the world.
- 5/5
It’s a beautiful property with very good amenities. Reception needs to tell new guests about club and other amenities as I encountered people who had no idea there is club privileges. Yes it in welcoming message on TV but some people don’t watch TV.
- 4/5
I had a lovely stay during a very busy work week. The Provisions coffee shop really needed an extra staff member or two. All three early mornings, there were a ton of customers and only one or two very hardworking people handling everything.
- 4/5
Rooms are a little tired.
- 5/5
Fantastic stay, memorable, caring staff. Unbelievable views of the bay. The best gym facilities including group exercise classes and multiple Pilates reformers. My kids loved it here, the bed was very comfortable, bathroom is spacious. Water pressure in shower is a bit weak but that is expected in eco-friendly Berkeley. Limewood restaurant is excellent. Great food options in nearby area, though a bit far to walk. The tennis courts are plenty and it was easy to get a court reservation and they had racquets for loan. I felt transported back into luxury while staying at this hotel. We will definitely be back for another staycation.

Our stay at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Check-in with Jonas at the front desk was seamless—he was patient, informative, and set the tone for an exceptional visit. The room was opulent and comfortable, and the gym exceeded expectations with its luxurious amenities. Breakfast was delicious, especially the omelet, and Muang went above and beyond with kindness and care for the kids. The 5 p.m. saber ceremony was a memorable highlight, and the view from any deck was simply outstanding—facilities were spotless and well maintained, making our stay truly enjoyable.I celebrated my 40th here and they had champagne and bites in the room
- 4/5
Registration was difficult. Area noisy due to loud music in bar. Only 1 staff person on duty and she was engrossed in conversation with someone (not checking in or out) for a long time. Another staff person came out eventually to check us in, but was unsuccessful in enabling room key to work for parking entry/exit. Also only 3 ev chargers, always in use so we weren’t able to charge ours.
- 4/5
The Chinese woman at the front desk was amazingly friendly and helpful. I teased her that she must work 24 hours a day as she was there no matter what time I passed through the lobby. But I looked forward to seeing her each time. She is a great asset to your team.
- 4/5
We love the hotel, but it's time to upgrade the bedding/pillows and availability to outlets and plugs near the bed. There was no clock and no slippers.
- 4/5
A major reason I choose this hotel was for spa treatments and walk ability to neighborhood cafes. Their spa is only open on weekends. I arrived on Sunday evening and was told it was open on Monday. It was not. The resort fee $50 WAS NOT EXPECTED especially given they didn’t have an actual spa to offer. Very nice hotel, great for conferences and business meetings. Great views of SF bay. Not for the solo traveller who wants to explore the area by foot.
- 5/5
Noisy to have an adjoining room. Sound traveled easily.
- 5/5
Perfect
- 5/5
Clean room and all the staff were amazing
- 3/5
I booked my room on Expedia and the hotel charged me 200$ more per night than the rate on Expedias website. I didn’t realize it till I got the bill. The hotel charged me 529$ per night and when I booked it through Expedia it said it was only 324.28$ a night.
- 5/5
The staff was super accomodating. When I mentioned that street noise from my initial room was a bit annoying , they immediately offered me a room away from the street. They aim to please.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel with great facilities and amazing service.
- 5/5
well appointed tasteful rooms, clean comfortable with great showers and coffee machines
- 1/5
they have offered us complimentary breakfast, but the room was much smaller than we have paid for it . Not happy with this kind of business. They should have refunded all my money as it was not what I did paid for .
- 4/5
Need additional filtered water in room (especially if want it used in coffee machines) and better coffee offered (latter as exists in lower-end hotels, even out of state). Thx!

- 5/5
excellent
- 5/5
Beautiful, classic property. Great art and views.
- 4/5
Lovely facilities. They did offer an upgrade for a fee. Not worth it. The room was nice but not worth the $200 up charge. I feel like I was taken. Don’t up grade!
- 4/5
major renovations going on, scaffolds all over outside window. for the price, definitely not worth it. nothing special about the room- which had a nasty stale smell.
- 4/5
Provisions was good, but also overpriced, and feels like a clunky ordering experience. The people working there are SUPER nice and accommodating, but the lines are constant and it feels like it could be more efficient overall. We have also used the pool facilities multiple times and they also feel like they are in dire need of updates. It's amazing to have access to such large, resort-level amenities, but the kids pool and surrounding area felt dirty, the pool chairs look and feel really basic, the staff seem overworked and do not help with getting set up. Again, if I had paid more I would be annoyed. Food for thought!
- 5/5
Super comfortable hotel
- 3/5
Not to standard for cost. View of scaffolding, cheap window coverings that didn’t close properly.
- 5/5
Nice stay - bathroom feels small but everything well kept
- 5/5
Lovely hotel
- 2/5
Over charged for parking. Room was not well cleaned before I checked in. VIP coffee from 4am to 6am?? Expensive anytime other than that.
- 5/5
Jonas was an excellent front desk clerk! Not only was he so welcoming me to the Claremont Hotel, but he worked personably to help me find the room the best fit my wishes - and the room was spot on! Jonas took his time, stayed focussed and is exactly what the brand would want as the first person to greet guests!
- 5/5
A historical hotel, it was my first time being here, and enjoyed the status of it. They were doing renovations and construction, but were mindful of quiet hours. I appreciate that they are maintaining it to keep it as a nice resort. I would stay here again if there were more deals and value available.
- 5/5
Absolutely love it here!
- 5/5
The bed was very comfortable! The resort fee covered a lot! We really enjoyed using the steam, suana and whirlpools in both men's and women's side!
- 5/5
You can walk to UC Berkeley from it.
- 5/5
A unique, historic hotel perched on a hill overlooking San Francisco Bay, built in 1916. Even though it is around $600, the large bay view king bed room is great! Even the huge bathroom has a window view of the bay.
- 5/5
Excellent property and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The front desk remembered it was our wedding anniversary the next day! Highly recommend this place.
- 5/5
Everything was fine
- 5/5
The Claremont is wonderful. The location is great across the street from a wonderful bakery and some nice shops. A short 15 minute walk to campus a short Uber ride from BART and downtown Berkeley or Oakland. Wonderful facilities weight room spa and pool nice food options with a wonderful bay view. The best thing though was the wonderful staff who consistently went out of the way to meet our needs and make us feel welcome. 5/5 stars all the way.
- 5/5
Love the Claremont. We came for the Cal game and the glories of Berkeley dining.
- 5/5
Such an elegant property and in a great walking neighborhood
- 5/5

- 5/5
There are so many places to connect with friends. There are chairs in the garden and many seating areas with luxe fabrics around the hotel. Very honey and classy.
- 5/5
Absolutely Gorgeous property!
- 5/5
All the staff we encountered were friendly, professional and very helpful. The room amenities are outstanding, especially the Sandalwood shampoos, body wash and lotion. I loved the decor: the older style of furnishings shines through with modern functionality - a great combination! Definitely would return here.
- 4/5
our room for first night was terrible. we have been coming here for over 25 years. we were moved to a good room the next 3 days. the rooms need to be updated. all in all will stay again. they should have compensated us for the first night.
- 5/5
An
- 3/5
Construction on the property. For the cost, it seems like a big move to have construction above you and outside your window at 9:00am.
- 5/5
Had some issues with deliveries. Not your fault! Front desk staff is amazing
- 5/5
Celebrating our Golden Anniversary and the staff could not have been more kind. We created lifetime memories as we were able to swim, play tennis or just relax!
- 3/5
We booked a room with a view of the bay. However, the view was obstructed by scaffolding due to ongoing renovations. We had to pay more to upgrade to a room with no scaffolding. There should have been a notice that the views were obstructed when we first booked the room.
- 5/5
Great property in the hills quite and great friendly staff.
- 5/5
The Claremont is a lovely old hotel with quite a history. Our room was small and a king size bed really filled the room leaving little room for any kind of comfortable longe chair.
- 1/5
Vomit in the room & scaffolding all around - thus a sleepless night. My son ultimately slept in our rental car in the parking lot due to the stench. The next day we were offered a room with a shredded window treatment, a crooked painting and screaming children from the pool below by management. No regard for Platinum VIP status; this is a property with 279 rooms! We were charged $150 for a lunch that was delivered/eaten by other guests. Upon my check out I honestly could not be bothered to have a conversation. I hope that someone who cares in this orginazation takes the time to actually follow up on this & realises how decent clients are treated.
- 5/5
Outstanding on every way.
- 1/5
Sadly, we did not have a good stay at the Claremont this time. We’ve been visiting for the past 10 years. The past couple of visits have been disappointing to say the least. This time we booked a deluxe room with two queen beds and we were put in a small, tiny room with a small bathroom with barely any room to move around. I doubt the beds were queen. Worst of all the AC did not work. This is unacceptable in a luxury hotel. We called to report the AC issue and the customer service was again super disappointing. Even though they did apologize and admitted that the AC system is old and cannot keep up with the heat on a hot day, they gave us credit of under 10% of the cost of our stay - that’s not nearly enough to compensate for not being able to sleep due to the heat in our room. And they never checked back with us to say their engineer came and solved the AC issue or did not solve the issue or if we need anything else. When we checked out, they did not ask us if we had a good stay, they did not even wish us a good day. Terrible customer service, especially given that this is a luxury hotel. They also said they can’t move us to another room because they are oversold - why would they end up oversold?? I hope they bring in new management and turn this around quickly because this is an otherwise beautiful historical property, lovely grounds and view, lots of potential.
- 4/5
The hotel is amazing and historical but the customer service is definitely lacking at the front desk and pool area.
- 4/5
The hotel is very pretty but we didn’t get to enjoy the property and activities
- 5/5
Loved the gym/pool, loved the classic style
- 4/5
We had an issue with the room not being totally clean but they made it correct.
- 2/5
The hotel has potential but it is going through a lot of renovations. All our views were blocked by scaffoldings :-( when the work will be finished I man sure it will be an amazing experience…
- 1/5
We had very bad experience
- 5/5
Wonderful room, view, comfortable bed, friendly staff, beautiful pools and tennis courts. It’s a lovely property.
- 5/5
Excellent views of the Bay, great well-maintained room, beautiful building, great service. Vey clean
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Truly excellent dining. Loved everything! Will be back often.
- 5/5
Awesome stay beautiful Terrace.
- 5/5
Awesome stay beautiful Terrace.
- 5/5
loved our stay, good food and very nice location
- 5/5
Really nice facility, they had a remodeling going on, and it was very tasteful. And very nice, the historic value is amazing. We'll definitely return .
- 4/5
Too complicated getting to my room from the lobby.
- 3/5
The property has seemingly been under renovation for the last 6 years. The AC in my room did not work, and there was an odd smell to my room (musty). I love the history of the hotel but I think they need to make some changes.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with lovely classic rooms
- 4/5
Clean room and good eating options on site.
- 5/5
Super comfortable bed and quiet.
- 1/5
Do not stay here if air conditioning loudness matters to you. This is not the famous Claremont you're expecting. The in room HVAC / Air Conditioner sounds like jet engine, even when just on fan. I left after an hour. I consider my room payment a donation. Slept better at a Motel 6.
- 5/5
Great historic hotel; excellent staff; wonderful experience.
- 5/5
Besides that the resort was in tip top shape and we loved the location being central to a number of different things.
- 2/5
Late arrival was not well handled and poor communication and no support. Room service support non-existent.
- 5/5
We loved this experience. It was exactly what we needed.
- 5/5
Excellent location, service, amenities,Pool and workout room. The only knock I would have is for the last couple years, there always is construction and renovations happening on the exterior.
- 5/5
Incredible views! Very friendly staff Amazing amenities
- 4/5
The standard room is small - which is the only drawback to this stay. When you are in the room - no where else to sit but the bed and the one uncomfortable chair. But the entire hotel has plenty of very nice sitting areas - which is where I end up hanging out most of the time - try to stay away from my room!
- 4/5
It's a beautiful old hotel and they are remodeling the exterior but for the money, the interior needs some attention. The shades should be automatic, the fabrics need update, the furnishings should be more streamline in a small room with 2 beds so you can walk around the bed without hitting the corner of the desk and suitcase holder...it just needs some attention.
- 5/5
bed amazing so relaxing
- 5/5
Beautiful historic hotel
- 5/5
Wow, just wow! This hotel is beautiful. It is nestled at the base of a hill with beautiful views of the Bay. The property was undergoing some renovations to the outside, but was still stunning to view. The inside is so elegant. It reminded me so much of the Hotel Del Coronado (San Diego) and the Plaza (NYC), but with out their price tags. Very large spacious halls, and the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff was great. We spent some time in the Lobby Bar, and the staff was attentive and humorous. We were hoping to see the sabering of the champagne (at 5pm), but the bottle was uncorked rather than sabered. Oh well. I wish we had more time to explore the property and I was really interested in the Saturday morning hike but we had to leave too early on Saturday to partake. Next time.
- 5/5
The smash burger from room service was awesome!!
- 4/5
Limewood and Bay view cafe were great. Provisions - would be nice to have gluten free options. Also I was served day old coffee.
- 5/5
Exceptional stay with five star customer service in a beautiful setting. Luxurious rooms and amenities with great dining options. A fantastic destination.
- 5/5
Pool area relaxing and wonderful. Mens locker area with jacuzzi, steam and sauna - top notch.
- 5/5
Love the amenities, the Spa, restaurants and beauty and peacefulness.
- 5/5
Very beautiful staff was very friendly. I will be staying here again.
- 4/5
Nice hotel, staff are lovely my only complaint is that the spa is only open on weekends. Very strange for this type of hotel with all its other amenities. I was disappointed.
- 5/5
An amazing experience, exquisite resort and incredible staff. We will be back!
- 5/5
Tree removal outside our windows was noisy
- 5/5
Wonderful classic hotel that was nicely updated. Very good food and great heslth club swimming pool
- 3/5
However, that’s about all we loved. There is acaffolding and construction all over property - no notice was given before we arrived, no discount, so we had an ugly view and saw men outside the window all day. Didn’t feel private or nice. Two mornings at 8am they tested the fire alarm with no warning. Only one bottle of water per day was given for two people. Doors aren’t sealed so noises come in from bottom as does light from the hallway, so if you’re light or noise sensitive you will be woken; and there are no curtains, only a shade, so light also peeks in. Not much natural light entered the room so it was somewhat dark during day. Pillows were soft and unsupportive so sleeping wasn’t great. Beds were ok. Housekeeping didn’t refill amenities we needed, like cotton swabs, which was annoying. There was really nothing to make you feel like this is a resort, and nothing to justify the price, except exorbitant prices ($220 for wagyu beef at the Limewood restaurant).
- 4/5
Property is undergoing needed renovation. It didn’t affect our trip much, except we had some scaffolding outside the window partially blocking the view.
- 4/5
Nice stay. Staff at front desk wasn’t very friendly. Enjoyed the amenities and bed was comfy. Overall great stay will return
- 5/5
Hannah the rooms manager really took care of my wife on her 65th birthday and both of us on our 35th anniversary. Thank you
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, outstanding service and just exquisite. 5 stars!!!
- 5/5
Staff and service were excellent. Beautiful property!
- 1/5
Bad experience
- 4/5
Loved this hotel! Would highly recommend. Only thing we did not like was the food. Very low quality and expensive. If you’re going to stay there, suggest toning out in the neighborhood, there are good dining options.
- 3/5
I little on the expensive side especially when you consider the construction
- 4/5
The club amenities was very nice and the highlight of our stay. The room needs some upgrades such as the toilet seat and the general older smell of the room. Also there were two refrigerators but one seemed very worn and old and should have just been removed. Signage can be even more clear on how to get to the second tower.
- 5/5
Such a beautiful property and the club is amazing
- 5/5
Sauna, amazing
- 5/5
Clean and great staff
- 5/5
Nice July 4th celebration. Perfect venue
- 5/5
A beautiful hotel with a great view of the bay, very comfortable beds and a nice pool. It is a perfect sanctuary away from the busyness of a big city.
- 4/5
We loved access to the pool and the spa benefits. We also loved the beauty of the location and the staff were extremely accommodating.
- 5/5
Thank you to Jeanne the concierge for making my daughter's 7th birthday so special. She greeted her with a stuffy and had sparkling champagne and cookies waiting for us in the room. Our room had a gorgeous view of the bay. Could not have asked for a bettervweekend.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. The room was spacious, gorgeous and comfortable. Very courteous staff. Parts of the hotel were under construction for remodeling, but it was not loud or disruptive in any way. We enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 4/5
Took long to get my parked vehicle.
- 5/5
Wonderful place - loved our stay. Attention to detail top notch resort.
- 4/5
Excellent service and location. Gorgeous hotel. Good parking, although almost no spots on Friday 5pm. Had trouble with swiping my card in/out at parking gate, wish there was an attendent on duty - I paid extra to get out, twice, since the scanner didn't work, there were cars behind me and no way to turn around. Other than that, would definitely return.
- 5/5
Excellent stay! Would go again :)
- 5/5
Great service - pool is great especially if you like swimming laps (& teaching your kids). Tennis courts are fun - we are a tennis playing family! Now, they have food/drinks at the pool area- so that is great! Gym is also amazing! ( Wished self parking was included with the resort fee - doesn’t make sense why that is a separate charge for hotel guests…
- 5/5
The new manager, front desk staff, bartenders across from the check-in desk, fitness staff, and valet were all wonderful!! Great experience.
- 2/5
We got a “Deluxe” King room, that was just completely underwhelming. Our view is of the trash dumpsters. The HVAC is loud. Not what I would expect for over $500 a night.
- 3/5
Lots of construction currently- needed but we were not told it would be directly out our window and we were even told we were given an “upgrade”?!
- 4/5
Friendly staff. Nice hot tub. Clean room.
