The Basalt Mountain Inn is a charming and clean hotel with friendly staff and a convenient location close to restaurants and shops. Guests appreciate the updated rooms and heated toilet seats, but some find the beds uncomfortable and the breakfast underwhelming. Noise from neighboring rooms and thin walls are also mentioned as issues.

I was very impressed by the updates to the property. The room was very clean and up to date. However I was disappointed that there was only 1 tv in the unit which did not allow to watch television while in bed. And the a/c unit was a window unit located in the bedroom which you had to make sure the adjoining doors were open to allow cool air to flow into the main living room.

Basalt Mountain Inn was a great value for its picturesque location. The motel, while a bit on the older side, is well maintained and very clean. The queen sized bed was very comfortable, and the toilet had a heated seat and a night light! So fancy! The rooms were quiet when the people in the neighboring rooms stopped walking around and when the AC unit was not running. Breakfast was standard fare that was less than amazing. Trying to reach staff at the front desk was problematic. Overall, a good experience.

This is a good clean no frills joint. Family that runs it are friendly and work hard at keeping it up. If you are looking for a super fancy expensive Aspen type experience this isn’t it, but if you are looking for a clean vintage motel type experience at a good price this is it.

Location is excellent! Everything was clean. The foldout bed was very uncomfortable. The 90 degree angle of the couch cushions was not comfortable for sitting. The body wash provided felt harsh and appeared to be Joy dish soap. It would be nice to have some toppings for oatmeal or plain yogurt in the breakfast spread.

The require a physical card only to run even with special instructions and permissions added on Expedia. We booked all of our travel on one card and every other hotel ran that card to our presence whether it was physically present or not. I usually keep the card and my husband travels. Basalt Mountain Inn won’t accommodate our special request in that regard but we worked out another solution.

Stayed here for 1 night to try to beat the snow storm on Friday, the place was okay, the only reason why I gave 3 stars was because the bed. The bed sheets looked like someone peed on the bed previously and also the pillow. Luckily there was another sheet to put on top of it. But other than that the rest of the room was nice and I think my favorite was the bathroom lol. Had a defrosting/lightup mirror and heated/motion sensered toilet.

Breakfast was a nice continental, but we needed to remind the staff to refill the food as the eggs, sausage, and milk all ran out within the first hour and weren’t refilled promptly. There are creepy signs that say “the manager lives on property and may already be watching you.” Staff were hardly ever in the main office even during regular check in/check out hours, so if you need them you have to call them with the phone number posted. This was a cheap stay near Aspen which was the biggest perk but just know the quality of service could use work. One other perk is that the building is recently remodeled so it does look nice inside and out. Bathrooms were clean and remodeled.

I had a really nice stay at this hotel. It's in a great location in the cute little town of Basalt. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was recently renovated. The breakfast was fresh and had a nice variety. There was plenty of parking and it was perfect distant from the Aspen ski resorts. Fresh towels were always available and the staff was super friendly. I hope they are able to offer a self-service laundry room in the future. They offered to do a load for longer staying guests, however I would prefer to do my own especially with ski gear. It also would've been nice to have Smart TVs to access Streaming platforms.

The Inn has a fantastic location. A few room improvements would go a long way - like adding curtains or blinds to the window on the room door to help block out morning light. The lighting in the room is very harsh bright overhead lights which isn’t relaxing. Outlets in strange locations and didn’t seem to have max voltage because our phones would charge super slow. Door don’t have a deadbolt and wasn’t clear if it was locked from the inside. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

Unable to travel due to flight cancelation from Winter Storm Fern and attempted to cancel reservation the day prior to arrival. Spoke with hotel manager first, who was adamant that Expedia never allows this (I know this is not true as Expedia has agreed to cancelation for similar circumstances in the past). I asked him if he would agree to cancel reservation and not charge if Expedia called and okayed this. He stated clearly he would. I called Expedia customer service and they called him. He refused to cancel the reservation. Expedia sent me an email documenting this, Hotel manager called me later in the afternoon to tell me Expedia never called him which was a blatant lie as the communication from Expedia included his name which I never mentioned to Expedia. He offered a free night stay in the future "if we were ever in the area" which won't happen as I live on the East Coast and was traveling to Aspen for a conference. Why not cancel the reservation and not charge instead? I would avoid this place at all cost. Completely dishonest management.

The sheets were covered in yellow stains, the room smelled foul, and there wasn’t even a proper lock on the door. We had to buy disinfectant just to feel okay touching anything. On top of that, there was constant noise all night so sleep was impossible. When we tried to cancel the remainder of our stay and get a refund because of these conditions, they refused. The breakfast options were pretty basic- it was either oranges/ apples, cereal, or waffles.

The employee serving breakfast was very polite and friendly. Breakfast was good- real eggs were used. One day there was linked sausage and bacon, another morning he served sausage patties and scrambled eggs. There was always waffle batter ready to use for fresh “make your own” waffles. Christmas Day he had picked up a Christmas pastry/dessert from a local bakery in celebration of Christmas. The parking was a plus as parking in Basalt is limited.

The room is minimal but nice with a little kitchenette with a microwave and under-counter fridge and the bathroom was nice especially the heated toilet seat :>). Great location in town to walk to the shops and restaurants. The room could use a little paint maintenance and someone had broken the under-counter refrigerator handle, probably because they tried to open the door that had a backward facing hinge. Really the only disappointing thing was the breakfast that had sour milk in the pitcher for the cereal or a glass of milk. Took a big sip and spit it out. I think because it was off season that the breakfast area was very minimal on what was fresh. I would skip the breakfast next time.

Good Location Hard to read hand written code to open room door. Very cold room with a very thin blanket and no other blankets in the room. No thermostat and found a sentence note on wall (in 8 pt font) that said for heat you must open electric box and find heat switches and turn on. I found that by accident in the morning. Who does shit like this in 2025? Window in door brought in nice bright light all night. I will not be back and will tell my friends to avoid the place.

The location is everything. The hotel itself is fine, does the job. Plus it's very affordable for the area. Comfy bed and was nice to have a little kitchenette. The breakfast was pretty underwhelming, even bad. We only tried it once and didn't try again. But at least it's included. The Saturday farmer’s market was just a few walk away. Live music on a big green lawn. Eateries of all sorts, fresh bread and some local produce. At night bars with live music band and open till late. Wilits is the next town westbound where Whole Foods is located, wines and beers shop next to it. The room was great very roomy with the living area and bedroom. It had enough plugs for phone charger and other devices. The kitchenette was very helpful especially the fridge. The Shower as a good size with controls that are workable once you understand where the correct temperature is (move the handle to around 3 o'clock setting). The fancy toilet flushes for you and is not obnoxious. The hotel is right on the main street with restaurants and entertainment and walking distance to Basalt park by the roaring fork river which is a great place to spend time. Walking/biking distance to public transportation and the Rio Grande trail. The fridge did not have a freezer and there was no easy access to ice. The toilet paper holder was askew. We would love bacon every day for breakfast.

I liked the space we had with the two bedrooms and living room area. For the price and the location, it was a good deal. One downside was that the Internet did not work. Breakfast was slim pickings but it's an inn, not a fancy hotel so it was kind of expected.

The room was very large and had necessary amenities like fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Price point was good considering location. The mattress was not comfortable but serviceable. I was driving from Texas to Portland and got in late. I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night and wanted to take a shower. the room seemed decent and clean for the most part but the shower drain was clogged and all this crap from the drain started coming up into the shower it was disgusting. It was only a standup shower and I didn't want it to over flow so i just got out after a quick rinse. tried again next morning same thing. The mattress was very firm and really hurt my back. When I told the staff about the shower when checking out they just said thanks for letting us know. I was kinda hoping for a slight partial refund a nice hot shower would have made my day start off better but oh well.

The bathroom was dirty. There were (I assume) new toilets in boxes stacked outside one of the rooms. Looks like they’d been there a while. Continental breakfast was from 7-9 am, but when we got there at 8:45, there were no eggs. The heater ran all the time because we didn’t see the sign that said we had to turn the heater off via the breaker box. We’d love to stay again if they can clean the room properly.

There have been upgrades since we had last stayed but some things are more important than the fancy $2,000 lighted toilet. The mattress and pillows were so uncomfortable. The roll-down blinds were not wide enough for the wondow, and without curtains, bright light shined in and was across our pillows. The shower was teally slippery so we had to lay a towel on the shower floor. Snow and ice wasn't removed from the parking lot so we had to walk through it to get to our door. The room had old baseboard heat. I doubt we will stay here again.

Asked if we could put our stuff in the room and change, owner said no. He said since I booked through Expedia it’ll be $50 an hour for early check in. But if I booked through him directly, he would have helped me out. (Still only one car here as I’m checking out) Room is was fine, they had to come flip the breakers to get the heat working. The lady working the front desk was very helpful and nice. Getting to the hotel, the road was torn up, and was being repaved, not a knock on the hotel, but would have been nice to get instructions on how to get into the lot. (Involved asking the crew to move their backhoe and dump truck)

I did not enjoy my stay. Check in was pleasant. When I entered room I was immediately displeased with the lighting, they use daylight balanced (blue/harsh) bulbs that felt like fluorescent bulbs in a prison. The room felt sterile, not comfortable, bad/small art etc. I hated it. Then when I turned down the bed I found what seemed to be dirty sheets, wrinkled and full of numerous, various black hairs. As I investigated the sheets I quickly became aware of how stained they were....it was disgusting and unacceptable. Luckily, I travel with pillows and a comforter and was able to use an extra (clean) sheet I found near the bed. I had booked the room online from my phone without really reading reviews, as I saw that it had an 8.8 rating and I trusted that. Once I actually read the recent reviews at dinner that night, I found many "poor" recent reviews, with the same complaints that I had. Would NOT stay here again. Also, there was major road construction going on out front, which was also a slight negative. Brick Pony Pub next door was good for dinner and drinks.

The room has a fancy toilet that required additional electrical work, leaving wires exposed. There seems to be a dangerous risk with the new wiring. We had to wait in the front office a terribly long time before anyone showed up. Disappointing.

We booked a reservation via Orbitz and then upon checking in at the property and paying locally at the property we became aware that no pets were allowed. We did not check into our room and simply asked for a cancellation/refund. The frontdesk clerk was very nice BUT the property manager denied that request and said we could go to ATM and pay $180 cash to allow the pet or $250 with Credit Card. We felt this was extortion by the property manager who then said we should contact Orbitz to approve cancellation which Orbitz inturn contacted the property who still denied a cancellation/refund. This was very bad and unethical business by the property. We will never stay there nor recommend.

If you don't want to have to climb stairs, be sure to request a ground floor room. The place is attractive but the room smelled so powerfully of cleanser, we had to leave the door and windows open. I was told that that's because our 3rd floor unit, and some others, are designated for people with service dogs and that they have to clean them extra hard to ensure people with allergies aren't bothered. The bathroom was extra-fancy with a bidet and steam-free mirror. Great shower too. But the bedroom light was awful - glaring white light. Lightbulbs should be changed or a table lamp used instead. Breakfast was just so-so (something that looked like a small, cracked burrito). Location is great though, walking distance from everything. So, some things were really good, some things were meh.

Very very basic hotel. Except for the toilet which was awesome - heated seat and auto flush. The fold out bed mattress was very thin. There was a three story stair climb to the room that was incredibly steep and difficult to use while carrying up baggage. The staff offered me no help at all and I’m an older woman in my 60s. Breakfast was as basic as you get. On par with the least expensive chain hotels. Felt like a cheap hotel.
