The hotel received overwhelmingly negative reviews, with guests citing filth, disrepair, and poor customer service as major issues. Many guests reported seeing rats, bugs, and other pests, and several mentioned a strong smell of cigarettes, pets, and urine. The rooms were described as extremely dirty, damaged, and outdated, with broken furniture, holes in the walls, and stained linens. Guests also complained about a lack of basic amenities, such as air conditioning, hot water, and clean towels. The front desk staff were frequently described as unhelpful and rude.
- Convenient location
- Friendly staff
- Extreme filth and disrepair
- Poor customer service

Check in was at 2 but room wasn't ready till 5. There were holes in the wall of the room and no shampoo or conditioner. Bath towels were small and old and scratchy.
- 3/5
The floors in the room were weirdly sticky and tacky, and the AC was functioning but broken as well as one of the lights.
- 1/5
FYI: There is NO elevator and my 61 year old ass was placed on the very top floor. I could go on...My advice Do Not Go There!!!

The people that work here are friendly and work with you , the rooms could be better cleaned but overall nice and comfy beds with a/c. Nice place to stay but a little pricey.

The rooms really need to be updated. The outlets in the bathroom don’t work ,But the water was hot, the location was convenient and there were no insects or rodents. Another plus was the inside of the hotel was very quiet. If you need a place to stay for a night or two, this would work.
- 1/5
Although I booked the room for 2 people, the king bed had 2 standard flat pillows and there was one set of towels. The deadbolt was very loose and needed to be repaired. No elevator, long stair case (a by product of the old building) There were also bugs in the bed. The Google said they were carpet beetles and sometimes bit people. How can anyone stay there with bugs in the beds?

I loved my stay at the Mt. Vernon Inn. It's a unique, brightly decorated, reasonably priced hotel in a wonderfully convenient location in Baltimore. We stayed two nights and they were both lovely. Strong A/C was a blessing since it was up in the 90s both days and we were close to sweet neighborhood restaurants. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I absolutely LOVE the staircase. If my travels bring me back to Baltimore, I'm definitely coming back.

Great trip

Rooms are tight and dark (not well lit), but clean and historical period-centric. Ownership and staff are friendly, accomidating and interested in feedback. Conveniently located halfway btwn Hopkins and the inner harbor. We are acouple and would sray here again.

We checked in but did no stay. This was not what I expected at all. No pillows, one towel, no parking, painfully slow check in. We found another hotel.

This place was disgusting at best. Dirty, smelling and dated. Front desk rude. Never, ever again.

By far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Four police greeted my parents when they arrived. Someone clearly had used a crowbar to open my room because it couldn't shut all the way anymore. There was garbage overflowing from the trash can at the bottom of the stairs. No elevator. There was something sticky on the desk in my room. There were no pillowcases for sleeping (only the decorative ones that don't get washed every time). The dresser was missing a handle and a foot, both of which were found inside. None of the dresser doors shut. The floor was slippery from a thick coating of cleanser that was not properly removed. My feet itch now, after using the shower. The toilet paper holder was missing the bar. There was no towel holder. I only stayed here because my mother made the reservation based on the false reviews shown here at Expedia. I can testify that only the owner could have written those reviews. No reasonable person would even consider this a proper hotel. It made one star hotels seem like the Taj Mahal in comparison.

Yes A/C was working, and plenty of shops near by. I know the area well.
- 2/5
The blanket had a burn hole, there was other peoples hair in my fresh towels, the place constantly smelt of smoke.
- 5/5
Fun place. Quaint little trippy hotel.
- 1/5
This was the worst hotel I have ever seen. It is shocking that Expedia has this listed as a choice. Filthy, no elevator, room doors that have clearly been bashed in for entry. I can't imagine a worse place. We left immediately.
- 1/5
We didn’t stay, we just left
- 2/5
Unclean room (sheets, towels, and chair were stained, bed comforter had what appeared to be a cigarette burn, smell of mildew), most of the room light fixtures and several power outlets were not working. Would not recommend this hotel if other options available in the area (there is only one other hotel within a few blocks surround Baltimore Penn Station, which was our destination)
- 5/5
Just weird enough to keep the price reasonable, along great hot showers and location.
- 1/5
First of all, the floor. It had a solid, wall-to-wall coating of grease. I didn’t walk to the bathroom, I *glided*. It was like housekeeping decided to mop with leftover fry oil from an Arby's. The decor was breathtaking, assuming your aesthetic is "Cigarette Burn Chic." And let's talk about the accent wall! It featured a stunning abstract mural of mysterious liquid stains. Is it coffee? Is it blood? Is it a vintage Mountain Dew Code Red? Who knows! It's a fun little interactive mystery to solve while you pray for the sun to come up. For lighting, they went with a gorgeous, avant-garde installation: a single bulb dangling out of the ceiling socket by one exposed wire. Very *hostage chic*. Oh, and there was a desk, but no chair. Which honestly makes perfect sense, because when you're taking in this kind of ambiance, you really shouldn't be sitting down and letting your guard drop anyway. I am completely confident that not a single person who works at this hotel would ever consider staying the night here. The front desk manager is definitely sleeping in his 2004 Kia Sorento. Honestly, if you took *Saturday Night Fever*, but John Travolta was a sleep paralysis demon and the whole thing was filmed in the actual ninth circle of Hell... you’d have my room. Zero

A person was actually hiding out in our assigned room (we booked for 2 nights) when we arrived at 10 PM. She claimed she had been left there. There was a confrontation when they were removed from the room. It was late, so we stayed in the new room they moved us to. There were stains on sheets and towels. Then, the electrics shorted out on one side of room when we plugged in a phone charger. My partner was propositioned in the hallway by a woman. Next morning, woken at 6am with extremely loud dance music. Knocks on the door did nothing, had to bang on wall from inside our room. When we went down in the morning, the person who was in our room the night before was huddled in the lobby watching tv. We checked out after that and booked another hotel for our second night. Was told by staff a partial refund would only happen if Hotel.com approved it.
- 2/5
The air conditioner was loud and big (older model). The bathroom door didn't closes and very small. The furniture was dirty and messy. The area is nice and LGBTQ+ friendly(it could use some cleaning). The building is very noisy. I did clean and use my own towel and disposable sheets. Not a bad place to stay just not for me.
- 1/5
Worst hotel/inn room I have ever stayed at. Although staff was nice, we did not have a tv remote and when we asked we were given one that didn’t even work, did not even bother trying to get another one, light had fallen down the wall bathroom smelled like cigarettes, and the electricity on the entire right side of the room did not work, just overall an awful experience, not sure how this inn got a 7/10 rating more like a 3/10. I’m sure there are worse out there but stay somewhere else where the room actually looks like the pictures.
- 2/5
AC was extremely loud and room was DIRECTLY next to a street. Door was not safe, you could push on it and see into room, plus it was downstairs in some basement area. Floors were so slippery I never took socks off. Area advertised as a hot spot, but in a very sketchy part of town with a lot of homeless on streets. Walkable to attractions and harbor though.
- 2/5
The staff take long time to attend The vendor machine doesn’t work The tv control doesn’t work too
- 3/5
I got that I pay for, clearly it was not a 5 stars, when I came to the hotel everything looked clean and ok in my room but the power contacts didn't worked I had to to ask for help, when I went to bed It was as if someone had rubbed dirty armpits all over the pillows, was so disgusting the sheets were clean—they smelled fresh—but I had to ask for replacement pillows. Many of the people I saw entering the hotel appeared to be struggling with addiction issues, and they were constantly arguing with the staff. The decor made me feel like I was at a carnival in Brazil—a riot of colors—which was hardly conducive to relaxing or getting a good night's sleep. Overall, no one bothered me, but I definitely wouldn't stay here again; it served its purpose as a place to crash for a single night, and that’s about it. The location in Mont vernon is incredible, they should to update the hotel and will be excelente plase to stary.
- 2/5
The area this hotel is in is nice but it got really loud at night and I woke up several times throughout the night. The floor of my room was gritty (?), my room and the entire first floor in general smelled like cigarettes, and my towels were not clean.
- 5/5
Great place for a solo stay to visit the town.
- 1/5
Cheap yeah but definitely not worth it. No parking place was breaking down and amenities so old you’d question if you were even safe in the room. Pictures were a lie. Worst stay I’ve had
- 5/5
I liked it. Nice area too
- 3/5
The room was adequate for one night but certainly nothing fancy. The bathroom had nowhere to put anything other than the top of the toilet, hooks were too high at the very top of the door, too few towels/washcloths etc. Shower was nice though. Bring slippers as the floors are bare and cold. The surrounding area was nice, a block from good restaurants and convenient to public transportation, including the free bus.
- 1/5
There was no heat it smelled like cigarettes in the room cigarette burns in the furniture wouldn’t recommend

Inside was cool. Looked like a maze of stairs. Ok atmosphere. The rooms were colorful lots of life. Bathroom was was clean. The bed sheets were filthy room turn down services regarding that needs improvement. Room TV was disappointing. Cable was pretty bad had to do a manual search through the antenna to get any channels. However the manager was helpful it wasn't a total lost.

The room was just adorable, I felt like I was in a little hotel in the tropics somewhere, except for the pictures of the city everywhere. The room was bright and cheerful, rainbow colors on the curtains and bedspreads. The front desk greeter was helpful with check in, and the few issues I had he took care of right away and made things right. I liked the in room single until AC and heater in one. The staff recommended a good Indian food buffet near by. Easy walking distance to The Walter’s Art Gallery and Mercy Hospital. If it hadn’t been so cold, I would have enjoyed walking around Mt Vernon more.

It was the night after a big snow storm and I found myself stuck in the city. A quick check on hotels showed the Mt Vernon Inn. I got there at about 11:30pm. Check in was easy. The room was rather “colorful”. Like bright tropical or Mediterranean colors ….different but kinda cool. It was also clean and the bed was comfortable. It’s clearly an old building but appears to be kept in good condition. The only negative would be the heater. It was a big window unit AC/Heat combo unit. It worked but it was loud. On the other hand, it was only 9 degrees outside so maybe it was working extra hard to keep up. For the money, you can’t beat this place. I would stay here again for sure.

The lady at the front desk gave me the wrong room and when I came back to get the correct room key she gave me an attitude. Then came up to my room and demanded money for a mistake she made. The place is nasty and the staff is terrible. I would never book here again
- 0.5/5
this hotel seems to be catering to guests that are very loud and disruptive. When we went to the hotel hours before check-in and tried to use the lobby bathroom, we were let into a broom closet that was also a bathroom and while using it, we could hear the guests in the neighboring room, screaming, and swearing at the top of their lungs for quite some time. we then left and came back to check in around 10 o’clock at night and there was someone in the lobby walking back-and-forth yelling and they would not stop. We could hear the yelling from the third floor bedroom. The staff said they were going to call the police, but after half an hour, we had to check out without getting a refund.
- 3/5
It's the least expensive place in a fantastic neighborhood. I'm thankful they have this option there or I could not have stayed within walking distance to my daughter. But you get what you pay for. Anyone complaining about cosmetic issues is nuts...again, you get what you pay for. The sheets may have had a few weird marks on them and the towels have the same weird rust stains my towels have at home from my washer and dryer but you can smell the faint aroma of beach on them confirming they are clean and sanitized. Not sure I'd stay there again but not because of the conditions of the place....more because of the amount of young people there staying up all night partying. The first night was college kids but they went to sleep around 11 so that's cool. The second night were a group of Cadets from WestPoint...can't blame them either as they can't party at the academy....gotta let off steam somehow...just wish they were aware how loud they were and that everyone next to the, above them, and below them, could hear them all night long. Over all, not a bad experience. You get what you pay for. Great location.
- 3/5
Friendly staff. The system took a long time retrieving my reservation
- 2/5
Honestly, it was the sketchy-ist place I think I've ever stayed. The location is good, but this place is scary. I only stayed because I was staying alone. If I was with my girlfriend or kids, there is no way I would have stayed.
- 2/5
When i made thebreservation, it was for a room eith two beds and i was charged accordingly. When i checked in the reciept was for 108.00. When i got to the room i realized why, it was only one bed which was very akwaed being i was traveling with a friend. I asked the front desk and they stated that hotel's.com overbooked and that at least the room was for two people. Very disappointed and over charged by hotel's.com

The entire hotel smells like mold and mildew! There mold in the ceiling of the shower and there was dust on the desk. This is a dump with colorful adornments.
- 1/5
Hotel has a moldy scent to it. Rooms have a lot of cosmetic damage and rooms are drafty. My AC unit had no vent and blew a lot of dust upon start up. I give this place zero stars.

The ice machine doesn’t work either. It kinda works but it’s clogged. When I asked what I should do, the was told to just open it and grab the ice out of the machine with my hands. All I can say is that the manager tried to accommodate for the stay generally with the suite, but it doesn’t excuse the amount of things that happened and how dirty it is… I don’t see myself ever coming here again.. please fix the rooms and clean it better, this is one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever been to.
- 1/5
It was hard to tell how clean the facility was. It looked like it was very dirty, but I think that impression might’ve come from the overall deteriorated condition of the facility and not necessarily the cleanliness. When I realized we had no pillows, I went down to the front desk where I found the manager asleep on the floor of the office. He disappeared for quite a while and reappeared with two very tiny white pillows. I asked him if he had more and he said no. So we had two very tiny pillows for a king-sized bed.
- 2/5
I chose to stay here for the price and the 7/10 rating made me feel ok about my choice. Unfortunately, it was more like a 3 for me. The pros: price, location close to inner harbor, water pressure, free street parking nearby on weekends. The cons: was told we could check in at 2 but room wasn’t ready until 3, room floors were incredibly dirty, no pillows on the bed except for the decorative sham pillows, the area around our room was creepy, had to go through to a sketchy hallway to our room which was by itself, AC was very loud, burn hole in our comforter, and the door wasn’t locked to the street; anyone could have come in. There was no elevator, very steep staircase which was not a concern for my partner and I but wanted to note for everyone else! In hindsight, I should have read through the reviews before choosing a 7/10 hotel.
- 3/5
Beautiful old building. Limited electric outlets and tv channels
- 2/5
We ended up leaving because our room wasnt up to our standards and was in a very questionable area of town.
- 3/5
This is a very old building that has gone through several renovations. No elevators and lots of stairs, difficult moving luggage up and down. There is no parking, had to park at a parking facility which cost an additional $26. On a good note, the bed was very comfortable but the pillows were not.
- 3/5
Not expensive; worth the money. I stay here whenever I want a clean bed and a shower.
- 5/5
Affordable
- 5/5
Quick, comfortable and efficient. No problems whatsoever.
- 4/5
Was quaint and quiet get away.
- 1/5
Bed quality is very bad, probably used for many years, I removed a broken glass from a vial from inside the comforter. Felt very uneasy and unsafe. Definitely will not recommend this place to anyone
- 1/5
I would never refer anyone to stay at this place. I found a bed bug in thr room. I took video if the bed bug crawling around the bed. This property needs to sprayed and cleaned thoroughly. I would love a refund for this stay. I would also like someone from expedia to reach out to me.
- 5/5
Nice and neat
- 1/5
Yeah so not only was this place an absolutely dirty and run down, but we were put into a room with a faulty lock. Due to this, someone tried to break into our room at 3AM. The front desk was not responsive at all and attempted to gaslight us about the lock being perfectly fine. We had to call the cops and have them support us leaving and us filing a report. The man at the front desk was very difficult about giving the cops a time to review the cameras and talk to our manager or any information about himself either, AND he then claimed that there is a man who trespasses and tries to open hotel room doors sometimes. He did not seem to understand just how insane of a thing that is. Considering there is one entrance and you must go past the front desk, I'm not sure how this is apparently such a constant thing. Beyond this, upon reading other reviews it seems like this is not the first time a pair of female presenting people were put into a room without a lock. It makes me concerned that this was intentional. And if makes me concerned for any solo traveling woman or queer individual in general staying here. If we had not had the bad across the top latched down preventing the man from getting into our room entirely, I'm not sure what would've happened.
- 5/5
Ever thing was good
- 3/5
Sketchy, lobby door does not lock to the street. There was a person in our room when we opened the door - guess i didn’t see the sock until it was too late. We were reassigned a new room. Bolt on the door had to be maneuvered by lifting the door up by the handle. No elevator, minimal towels, not even any Kleenex & don’t look for coffee in the morning. Glad I was not alone!
- 4/5
Quiet, clean and in the heart of downtown,Baltimore beautiful design good pricing
- 1/5
Everything about it was terrible
- 3/5
Okay for overnight stay. Generally clean and the front desk service was fine but the condition of the rooms and furnishings is a bit scary. However, the price is right if you can’t spend a lot and the location is great. Parking was good right on the street.
- 5/5
There was no shower curtain. That was a little weird. Only one bath towel, which without a shower curtain and floor mat, was mildly problematic. But overall, the location was great. And for the price, I can’t complain.
- 3/5
The inn needs improvement, it felt a bit sketchy at first but there is staff at reception 24/7. If you’re out most of the day and only need a place to sleep then it’s okay. The room furniture was outdated and/or worn out, but the room was clean. Also, depending where the room is located, you may hear cars with loud music or honking in the morning. Overall, it was satisfactory but not exceptional.
- 4/5
However I booked for a king bedroom and that is not what we got. We checked in later in the evening after work coming from out of town. I advised it would be a late checkin for us. The hotel attendant told us the hotel was overbooked and we got one of the remaining rooms. The bed was a double bed room that looked to be like a room that was once something else. The noise from outside was very loud as our window faced the street on the first floor. That should be more soundproof. At night, when the lights were out, you could see light coming through the door from the hallway. The bathroom looked like it used to be a closet. There was nowhere to store our luggage and no smart tv or connect to streaming. They could have provided more towels from the beginning of our stay so we wouldn’t have to ask for them. The stay was just okay. I was irritated that I didn’t get what I booked but there were no other rooms available to move to. The hotel should make sure you get what you paid for. Good for short stays downtown.
- 2/5
Not good
- 2/5
Ice machine not working, no streaming in the room
- 4/5
I say, everything is okay. Not great but not bad. I was worry about bugs but I have never seen. So That was good. Bed was good. No bed bug, shower and toilet works good. Location is great! So many walking distance breakfast place, nice restaurants, and CVS, 7eleven near by. Only my disappointment was no elevator, and my room was 4th floor. I don't recommend if you have bad knee. Otherwise, okay place.
- 5/5
I would rate the Midtown Inn a 9 out of 10 based on the price paid and the location. Simple as that! Now, if you are looking for a Marriot or Hilton or even a Holiday Inn, this is not your place. The building is probably 200 years old, the floors are not level and some things could use some upkeep. But overall, the owners have done an excellent job modernizing what they could. I did not see an elevator. The room was generally clean, everything worked and the bed was comfortable. This was my first ever trip to Baltimore, and I was apprehensive based on reviews of the location. I feel that this location could not have been more perfect, a block from the 1st Washington Monument, the Peabody Institute and Library and the Walters Museum just down the road. I would be walking back from a night at Federal Hill bars after 1AM and each night I would see couples and people out sitting around the monument, talking, etc... This is an easy walk(15min...) to the upper harbor where you can grab the water taxi and get all around downtown. But I would walk the area around My Vernon too, very nice with many shops and little restaurants. The staff at check in and check out were easy and nice. I would absolutely stay here again. Just keep in mind, this is a budget hotel, not a resort. Plan accordingly based on your expectations and desires!
- 5/5
I was originally to stay in a third floor room. I started struggling up the steps with 2 suitcases (and I'm 72 years old), when the manager moved me to a nice first floor room, at no extra charge. The room was clean & cherry. I highly recommend The Midtown Inn! There are nearby restaurants.
- 4/5
Picked one near Amtrak station. No frills but great Indian decor. Handrails at entrance wobbly for old legs. Shower stall floor slippery for same reason. Needs non-slip surface
- 2/5
Hotel is a walk up, we were placed on the 4th floor and had to carry bags up.
- 1/5
The hotel room looks like the pictures. However, it was not clean. There were only the decorative comforter pillows to use and the floor was slimy when wearing sneakers. The window air conditioning unit was extermemly loud and it had a grinding sound. We would have said something but we dropped off our bags at check-in and did not return until 1am. There was also only one 1 towel and it has permanent stains on it. When we checked out, I was not asked how the stay was. I was not expecting much from the hotel and we were only looking for a place to lay our head. However, we did not feel comfortable or clean while staying here.
- 1/5
Otw there, I called & asked where to park. The man was friendly but the garage was closed. I found street parking, went inside & was told the king bed room I reserved had no working tv so I was put at the end of a long hall and a long stairway to the basement. No elevator so with my luggage and torn meniscus, I struggled downstairs. No one helped. The basement room smelled like mildew, had a smaller bed and the smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling & beeping. I told the guy I couldn’t stay in that room. They moved me to the initial room saying that the tv was now fixed. The 2nd room didn’t smell as much like mildew but it had a faint smell of mildew and armpits. It was really gross. My king bed had no pillows, only 2 small decorative pillows with no pillowcases. Those pillows cannot be washed daily so I was not placing my head on an unlaundered pillow. I went to the front desk to ask for a pillow and was told there were no more bc some guests wanted 4. I was appalled. How could some people get 4 pillows and I couldn’t even get 1?! Insane. The building is old which I thought would lend to its charm, but I was wrong! It smells of mold and mildew and seems too unhealthy for habitation. The bed and bathroom were clean but the floors were dirty and unmopped. I wanted a full refund. That place was gross.
- 3/5
The good: It's clean. Like spotlessly. The heat/AC works The door locks The bed is OK, the linens are clean and of decent quality The front desk guy does his absolute best It's cheap It was not nearly as noisy as I expected it to be The not-so-good: The light in our bathroom didn't work & it's because of a wiring issue, not an out bulb I got a queen bed and I think I was supposed to get a king The aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. The whole place probably needs a gut reno but then the rooms would be 3-4x as expensive
- 5/5
Clean and great location. Had everything I needed for a 1 night stay in the city.
- 3/5
I liked how colorful it was and staff are accommodating.
- 2/5
When I arrived the room wasn’t cleaned they had me wait in a dirty room till they “cleaned “ my room. My room had no towel or wash clothes in it.
- 1/5
Be advised that this hotel will not check your bags. I arrived by train at 11am and was told to come back at check-in time. I had to make a new reservation at a different hotel and lost the money that I paid for this place. In decades of traveling, I have never encountered this. If the management will not clarify this, I will do it for them.

Exceptional Experience! I recently stayed at the Midtown Inn, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The hotel has clearly undergone a stunning renovation – it looks fantastic! The beds are incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and made me feel right at home. Plus, its location is ideal – very close to the Inner Harbor. Kudos to the entire team for delivering exceptional service! I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return!
