    The hotel and room were very nice but we had to wait 1 1/2 hrs to get our room. Apparently there was a competition on town and the hotel was overrun with rooms to clean. All staff were wonderful and professional but after a long day on the road….

    We left after checking in and going to the room. The manager refunded our money and said the property will be undergoing a renovation this year. He was great to work with. I will try them again once the Reno is complete.

    The location was close enough for our needs. Pool was freezing, hot tub was COLD and no way to control it. Had to ask for pool towels and was only allowed to have 3 because they didn't have anymore. Breakfast they stopped putting some things out over an hour before breakfast was over, even when asked. The staff was snotty and rude. The food was just ok. Kinda gross, some things edible enough. The room only had 3 towels. No sheets for the sofa bed. No extra pillows for it either. Had to ask for them and was told we could only have one pillow because it is all he had. Room was not stocked with enough toilet paper and no kleenex. Room was dirty. Tub was nasty. Parking was minimal and had to park behind the building. The price was insane especially with all this lacking. Will not stay there again.

    The breakfast was a mess. The pancake machine, the coffee maker, and the juice machine were all broken in some way. Every part of the property was rundown and poorly maintained except the lobby. Parts of the room were relatively clean.

    Desk person on the evening of the 2nd was not very helpful. We had to wait in the lobby over 20 minutes to get a room. Desk person said she was waiting to hear what room was clean. Once at our room, tried to get the TV to work; it turned on but we couldn’t get a picture. After 30 minutes of trying, attempted to call the front desk. Only static on the phone. No one answered. Went back to the front desk, same person there reported TVs were new and she couldn’t help. No one from maintenance to help until the morning. Never got the TV to work so my husband asked for a discount/credit- staff person said she was not authorized and gave us the owners email. Room decor dated but bedding clean and comfortable. However, in bathroom shower curtain rod hanging on by half a screw- surprised it didn’t fall down when adjusting the curtain. Wood trim of the door rotted out by the tub and open. Breakfast was fair- eggs and sausage were not hot and pancake maker sat unplugged. Will be checking in with Expedia for a refund and will not be back to this hotel.

    The switched my 2 Queen room to a king suite due to air conditioning issues. Of course the King suite’s air was broken too. The temp in the room stayed at 76 degrees despite it being set at 68. The toilet leaked and neither tv worked properly. Go camping and save yourself the money! Do NOT stay the staff could care less about how awful your stay is.

    The hotel was okay, but not in as good of shape as most Holiday Inns we have stayed at. The carpet had a big, noticeable rip in it and the trim in the bathroom was badly worn. But the room was clean and breakfast was fine and the location worked for us.

    I reserved 3 rooms in October in preparation for celebrating a family graduation. My room did not have a working TV and a toilet that was unstable and sounded like it was ready to fall over. The front desk took note of our issue and promised a maintenance person would check it out. We constantly checked with front desk to find out the status of fixing our issues. No one ever did address our issues or followed up. The next morning they called to say the room with 2 queens, reserved 7 months prior didn’t have working air conditioning and they needed to change it to a King suite. Now my 3 adult children were expected to share a king and sleeper sofa. This room ended up not having air conditioning either. The temp in the room never dropped below 76 degrees F. Not only did they mess with my reservation but gave us a room with no air and a leaking toilet! When asked for any support we were told to go through Expedia. We paid $450 for a room without the right beds and no air conditioning and Holiday Inn didn’t feel it necessary to refund any portion of the $1200 for three rooms with no TV and were in disrepair, especially the one they changed that had the same issue we were moved for plus a leaky commode! Do NOT stay here, it’s awful!!!

    The hotel is older and in need of maintenance and updates. Our room was clean - although it had a few issues. The closet mirror was cracked. Also the shower curtain rod was loose and drooping. It appears they tried repairing it before but there was a visible crack in the shower wall where they drilled a hole for the anchor. There was visible rust on the bathroom fan and light fixture. Also the spa/hot tub was not heated - it was the same temperature as the pool. This hotel was not a good value for the money we spent. I’ll look for a different hotel next time we need to stay in the area.

    Plenty of parking on the property; rooms are clean and somewhat dated; breakfast has a variety of hot items but only apples for fruit and the pancake machine was not operational. They have updated the coffee machines which grind the beans for each cup!

    A wonderful family hotel. The rooms were clean the staff exceptional nice. The breakfast was awesome. Even the kids loved it and their picky eaters and got a great parking spot right by my room.. I will read it at 10 out of 10 and we’ll stay again.

When we arrived at the hotel they said they did not have this type of room and that booking.com overbooked their rooms. We had to make do with a room with a king bed and a pull-out sofa sleeper. The hallways seemed dirty and in need of mopping. The room seemed reasonably acceptable; however, the wi-fi was terrible (no signal or intermittent dropping out).

    This was not a good visit. We checked into a room with no A/C on a warm evening. Not sure how the hotel wouldn't know it didn't work until we told them. They then moved us to a room with a broken thermostat. Breakfast was fine. The hotel needs a remodel.

    I like the location Cleanliness There was a Soccer Tournament that weekend and that was Kool but there was no way the kids should've been playing soccer in the lobby with the parents and the staff allowing that to go on.It was very inconsiderate to us and the other customers who had to move amongst the hotel.

    The hotel is very outdated and the rooms need a deep cleaning. There was dust all over the light fixtures and sockets. The carpet has holes in and the bathroom has tiles missing. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful.

    The hotel was clean and a comfortable environment. There was paint peeling from the ceiling in the bathroom but nothing major. Also, I booked a stay for 2 nights for 2 adults & 4 children and there were only 3 towels in the bathroom. I also had to request linens for the pull out sofa. I had expected that to be already in the room upon arrival since there were so many of us.

    There was a very weird leak like stain on the ceiling. The tub had cracks and parts kept falling off. There was still hair in the shower as well. The beds were comfy but the sheets made it difficult to move around in the bed. I felt trapped at times. The roll away bed wasn't awful. We had to buy an air mattress instead.

    Absolutely terrible customer service. I booked it via Expedia therefore was treated like third citizen. Why did they partner with Expedia if the want to treat guest like this. Got to the hotel earlier then check in time but the 2 rooms were not available only one was. From 1:30 pm until 4:15 the front desk staff kept telling us the room is still getting clean. We drove all night and couldn’t wait to check in. And now they are an hour late and he said that they don’t guarantee a room at 3 pm instead that anytime between 3-11pm they will provide a room. Really? Which hotel customer service teaches that. No manager on site. He said we were assigned a particular kind of room which was unknown to us and indicated that expedían must have assigned it which again is not true or we weren’t aware that we were assigned a handicap room. I did not select this room type. We selected 2 rooms queen beds for 2 adults and 3 kids. He never asked us is there any other room type we would be willing to take based on the rooms that are being cleaned and available. He never offered to call us and update on the status. Just simply not available without any estimate time. Not once apologize for any inconvenience. Just unwilling to help, was definitely not trained on customer service. Regardless of how convenient and clean the facility is my experience is so terrible that I would never stay at Holiday Inn ING again and will not recommend this particular hotel to anyone.

We were not given linens for the sofabed. Had to go downstairs to get them and were given a shower curtain for a sheet. Breakfast offered a good variety but items were slow to be refilled.

    The front desk staff at check in and check out were awesome. The room had a wet issues that we didn’t realize until later in the evening. I did make it known to the front desk when we checked out. I’m sure it was related to the assessable shower in the unit.

    The stay was great and the absolute friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in many hotels! The only down fall is the pool is not heated which they absolutely told us at check in! The room was what we needed and spacious for a week stay! Would absolutely recommend!

    The room had dirty walls the people across from our room were smoking so our room stunk like cigarettes and I want to say maybe a hint of ammonia. The air conditioning was so loud we slept with the tv on to drowned out the sound of it. On the wall next to the bathroom mirror was what looked like blood stains. We were exhausted from a very long drive it was very late at night and only needed a few hours of sleep so we stuck it out. Went down for breakfast and the floor in the breakfast area had food spilled on the floor that I had seen the night before and it was still there in the am.     We ended up needing only one night instead of two. We messaged the hotel to let them know we wouldn’t be there until Saturday. They gave away our room. I paid for the full night and didn’t even get past the lobby. The front desk was not very helpful and seemed annoyed at us. We ended up staying at another hotel that was way nicer and closer to our event. Supposedly, they were sold out of rooms and didn’t even make recommendations or offer any kind of support.

    My wife and I had spent the day at Kings Dominion so we didn’t check in until later that evening. So we requested a late check-out so we could sleep in a little bit before we continued our drive. Front desk said that we could have a 12:00 check out. And it wasn’t even 10:30 and housekeeping is knocking at the door attempting to come in i explained that we had a 12:00 check out. Not even an hour later they at the door again. This time I went to the desk instead of just calling. And all front desk could say that they were sorry because it was documented.

    Also, even tho it’s hot outside and the hotel has a jacuzzi I would recommend that the pool be heated up some because I saw a lot of kids trying to swim and shivering at the same time and when I tried to get in the pool it was definitely too cold.

    Here is my experience - late arrival - was convenient and easy - The room was nice and the beds were comfortable. The sofa bed was adequate. - The parts of the hotel we saw at larrival seemed nice. - I can not comment on any of the additional hotel amenities due to the rest of the negative experience Negatives They experienced a power outage during the night and it was still not on when we left mid morning. I understand is out of their control - however many of the things were - our room had missing curtains - specifically the light filtering ones (very difficult getting the 6 of us ready to leave when you are in a dark room with only your phone light and kids). Opening the blinds were not an option as people were constantly outside) - there were no working emergency lights or working back up generator. (We were on the 2nd floor - the hallways were dark - of course no elevator - the stairs had no natural light/no emergency light/ they did however place multiple glow sticks in the middle of the stairs (where u need to step) for some light. Rather difficult dragging your luggage down stairs with kids. - no breakfast of any kind. The list could go on but I’m limited on space no compensation of any kind - disappointed

    Absolutely run from this hotel. There are way better options in the area for a similar price. Upon arriving, I was greeted by my roommate, the cockroach on the wall (see photo). Literally a roach hotel. The cleaning staff intruded into my hotel despite having the do not disturb sign up; although, management was properly apologetic and comp’ed that night’s stay. Several times during the stay my key stopped working. So after returning to the third floor at the end of a long day and climbing the stairs because the elevator was inoperable, I would have to go back to the front desk and get my key recharged. The lady at reception was super nice about it, but clearly the hotel is lacking in the basics. The halls seemed to be be vacuumed once a month, and the stairwells were just plain gross. There were multiple “stains” on the walls of my room. The breakfast was meager and always the same each day. I will say the staff was awesome. Very nice people. Just the hotel condition was atrocious.

    The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean however the furniture was very old and dated. The furniture tv console full of sugar ants. On our last day the elevator button going up broke. Staff explained that it was some other guests that broke it. We had to take the stairs up and the elevator down. This is a challenge I was travel with a person with mobility issues.

    We did have trouble with the evening clerk, Brooke. She seemed distracted, unwilling to help, and was very disinterested in helping with a few minor, but neccessary adjustments to our room. Otherwise, WE found Star and the manager ( i have forgotten her name) to be quite the opposite! They were a joy to speak with, extremely helpful with issue resolution, and went out of their way to make ensure our stay was plesant. Star even recommended a local restaurant to try, ajd it was amazing! Our 2 night stay, while visiting Kings Dominion, was far better than previous places. Terry was very knowledgeable, and helpful. He resolved an issue immediately! He has a very welcoming demeanor. For all these reasons. We will be booking with Holiday Inn Express, Ashland, for all future trips to this area. Also, It is worth noting, that this beautiful property is located in close proximity to Kings Dominion (Doswell) with easy access to and from the property. Thank you all for a wonderful stay! We will be back soon!!

    Coffee options were good with Keurig in room and the breakfast was ok. Cinnamon rolls were not soft. We had 3 cockroaches in the room. Under the couch was wrappers, food, and a sock. The toilet flusher broke but was able to be reconnected. No shampoo in the shower, only body wash, conditioner, and lotion. Furniture was worn and cracked; carpet was coming up. Location was close to the interstate. Front desk staff were a mix of nice and couldn’t be bothered.

    While I will say the bed sheets were clean and comfortable, nearly everything else was subpar. The carpet in the room was visibly dirty—my socks were filthy after walking around. The AC unit took hours to cool down and made a constant, disruptive noise. There was dark grey dust around the vents on the walls, and the wall next to one of the beds had visible footprints. The window hadn’t been cleaned from the previous stay; there were handprints—likely from a child—still on the glass. The room itself didn’t feel secure. Even with the deadbolt locked, the door felt flimsy. These aren’t just cosmetic issues—they make a guest feel uneasy. The lobby was another disappointment. When we returned from our dinner outside the hotel there were crumbs all over the floor under the tables. By the time we checked out early Monday morning (at 7 AM), the same crumbs were still there—clearly untouched. I used the lobby restroom before leaving and was horrified: one stall had human waste, another had water and urine all over the floor. This was not during pool hours, so there’s no excuse for that condition. It’s clear that housekeeping standards and overall maintenance are severely lacking. Public areas should be presentable at all times—especially in a well-known chain hotel.

    This property is clearly in need of updates. We didn't need our key to enter the side door nor the pool so security is concerning. I refused to let my kids swim in the pool because it was so cloudy you could not see the bottom. Our bathroom was dirty (the floor, tub/shower) and the shower curtain did not cover the entire opening so the bathroom was soaking wet after bathing. The bathroom.door was about to fall off the hinges. The carpet constantly felt damp. Overall, I guess you get what you pay for.

    Our room was dated and in need of a refresh but the bed was comfortable. The biggest issue was the bathroom. The drain in the bathtub took a very long time to drain shower water, and eventually I was standing in water above my ankles. Also the soap/shampoo had been refilled into the incorrect bottles. The hotel is convenient to Kings Dominion and several restaurants.

    After calling corporate and spending an hour with customer service, we were assigned a different room. That room did not have hand soap in the dispenser and the drain in bath tub was clogged and slow to drain. Overall it was a pathetic experience for us. We trust Holliday Inn Express brand and this experience will make us think twice before making the reservation for future travel. We will definitely not be coming to this HIE property again.

    Hate writing a negative review. But we would never stay here again. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is because the beds were comfortable and it was clean in our room. But the TVs in our room didn’t work, there was only one remote for 2 TVs (which didn’t matter since they didn’t work), the handle was falling off the bathroom door, linens for the pull out couch weren’t ready until 10pm and the pool was closed the whole 3 day weekend. Also, our room phone didn’t work so we couldn’t call the front desk. One front desk employee was nice and gave us a small discount for all the inconveniences. Breakfast was ok. The whole place needs to be remodeled. Can’t recommend this place.

    This was the worst hotel experience we have ever had. The vents were dirty, tub backed up when showering, pull out sofa mattress had stains, only one person working at the front desk and she acted put out when asked for anything, the carpet was pulling up from the floor exposing wires, there was trash in the closet and under the sofa. The coffee maker didn’t work and there was no mini fridge…just an empty dirty space where it should have been. Disgusting experience, which was sad because we were there for our son’s college graduation.

    Did not have enough pillows. We needed to use pull out, as my stay stated for 6. They had no more pillows. Even had to go to front desk for the sheets and covering for pull out, which at most places is in plastic container in closet. Door handle to bathroom, near falling off. Curtain shears shredded. Toilet would not flush on our way out. Stayed back in 2022, and did not have this experience. Will not be staying again. Breakfast was good.

    Old building. There is mold and water damage in the room. The exhaust fan does not work. The water is not very hot even after letting it run for a long time, it was just lukewarm. The bathroom door has water damage and barely closes. Staff was friendly and hotel was clean. It was noisy with plumbing noises during the night. There are several restaurants and stores within walking distance but curb and bushes as barriers to make it inconvenient and I also wouldn’t recommend doing so after dark. Overall, I wouldn’t be back.

    Very outdated and very unsanitary our suite had half the carpet ripped up. Room looked like their either has been no cleaners in years or one skipped over the room we were in for sure. I reported problems to the lady at the front desk who very unphased and rudely said it’s in the book, telling me this was all known prior to my stay I.e. carpet ripped up with exposed nastiness under, broken closet sliders that looked like it was hanging on by a thread waiting to fall down and smash to Smithers, bathroom had nasty chunks of god knows what plastered to the counters and shower had pubic hairs and was clearly not cleaned prior to us had less then half a roll of toilet paper and the lady couldn’t be bothered to provide us with any “there is tissues in there”. I will NEVER stay at this location ever again and I love these hotels generally. Breakfast was decent and although we weren’t able to shower before our long drive ahead of us we at least got some decent pancakes.

    The property was clean but the room was in disrepair. Cable plate unattached hanging from the wall. Shower curtain rod attached to the wall with a wood block and you could not close it so water went on the floor. No privacy curtain on the window.

    The hotel staff were kind and check in was easy. The room had sticky stains on the floor, the bathroom sink drain was dissembled but functioning (possibly was in process of repair) and the curtains were ripped from ceiling to floor.

    Beds were comfortable. Stayed for 4 nights. No service to room, towel replacement, etc. Had to replace card keys daily because they didn’t work. Breakfast was mediocre but typical hotel breakfast.

    It was very convenient. Unfortunately quite noisy, plumbing was very audible and the HVAC in the unit was very loud. Staff was very pleasant but we didn’t get any housekeeping in our room in our 2 night stay. Our room and bathroom are in a need of a refresh but the bed was comfortable.

    This place has not been updated in years. There was a closet in our room that seems it should have been closed and locked had a funace unit in it with a filter that was caked with dirt. Looks like filter wasnt cleaned in years. Beds were weak and average. Was worth half the price we paid if not less than that. Definitely disappointed.

    The rooms was invested with bugs, stains on the linen and the ac unit was inoperable causing the room to be 90 degrees and humid. The Staff outside of Dawn is rude and unprofessional the property manager hung up in my face on several occasions. We booked 2 rooms but never checked into the second the front desk clerk said it was fine and that’ll refund the rooms. My family was stranded in the lobby looking for somewhere else to stay for the night after a 5 hr drive. Now 5 days later the manager is denied we ever showed up. The property manager is the worst and no where near helpful

    The shower was a handicap shower but there was no place for the shower head for a person to stand up. I had to get in my knees . The fridge was very loud . My card didn’t work when I came back after a long night and I had no way to get ahold of anyone at the desk. Sign said helping another person and that was all no number to Val or anything so I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to get back . They didn’t seem to concerned that i had to wait. I also say two different types of bugs . The phone was unplugged and so were some of the lights so it took me a minutes to find lights that worked

    My friend and I arrived early and we were and to check in anyway. The woman at the desk was super friendly and helpful. We had mentioned going to Kings Dominion and when we checked out, she remembered our conversation. The breakfast was good and everything else was enjoyable. The only issue we had was our toilet tank leaking, but we chose to take care of it the next day and and we mentioned it to the staff, they marked it down immediately for facilities to fix. Overall, we had a great time and great experience. We would gladly stay again.

    Due to expedias policy we had to pay for a stay we could not get to due to an accident on the highway. We understand that we don’t get the room insurance but that is because we knew we were going for certain. Please consider a refund.

    From the moment you walk in to the comfortable lobby you feel at ease. You are then greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff, then walking in to a spacious and clean room, sleeping on the most comfortable bed and pillow, it's a welcome departure from typical highway hotels.

    Staff was friendly and happy to help with any issues. Had difficulty with some keycards and ac in one room. Staff quickly took care of problems so we could enjoy our stay. Will stay again. Close to restaurants, gas station and other attentions.

    Friendly greeting and good recommendation for dinner in the area when we arrived. Room was comfortable and spacious, especially liked having a love seat in our room. Breakfast buffet was delicious and a wide selection. Only small issue was the shower curtain was a bit too short, so couldn't cover the full side of the shower. Curtain bar also dipped a bit, so shower curtain slid to the middle.
