The windows and door in the unit were difficult to lock. The bed wasn't great for either my husband or me - but that is a personal preference. The cute little bedside table wasn't big enough to effectively do the job, and I had to crawl on my knees to plug in my charger. The breakfast was minimal, but that was indicated on the site when we made the reservation.

Well landscaped. Ample parking. Room was exactly as described. Very private and very comfortable. No bath mat in the bathroom. The bathroom floors were slippery when wet so we used a hand towel as a dry mat. Plenty of towels were provided so that really wasn’t a big issue just something they should think about for guests safety.

Rooms have no TV. This is not prominent in either hotels.com or their web site. After a day walking around Asheville I was looking forward to watching the hockey playoffs in my room. What kind of hotel doesn't provide television in 2026? this isn't the 1950s. I was told this allows guest to disconnect. I can make my own disconnect decision by shutting off the set. Will not be going back.

Blind Tiger was very charming; the interiors were funky, rooms expansive and garden immaculate. However it felt more like a cute air bnb sans kitchen, than a boutique hotel experience. After checking in, there’s no service personnel that you interact with. More bathroom storage/surface area could have been helpful. As well as a mini bar and water in the room in the evening and after the room has been cleaned. I think the hotel could be greatly improved with better service throughout the stay & a wine or cocktail bar in the lobby.

Excellent snack system! Loved the grab and go breakfast and the decor was amazing. Felt like a home away from home in great nabe in Asheville. A stylish and affordable stay. Really thought everything was wonderful. Just wish that I could have stayed longer and taken more advantage of the amenities offered.

The location was perfect for our itinerary. The room was clean and comfortable. The hostess was very friendly and helpful with additional information. The first night the heat was not on and it was very cold in all the rooms and the main area. I would prefer coffee to be available before 8:00.

The staff here is beyond wonderful! So friendly. So helpful. So resourceful. The lounge is super cozy with the fireplaces and seating areas. There were snacks and beverages available. I will dream about the morning buns from Mattie Lou! Great location. Easy parking. We had to extend our stay due to a flight cancelation and changed to a new room since someone else was checking into ours. We moved to Liberty. The views were so good! I would pick that room again next time. It was so comfy and bright. Loved that there were no televisions! It was nice to unplug, sit by a fireplace, play some board games. We would absolutely stay here again. It was a perfect home away from home. The couch in Kress was not super comfy, but it was fine. Only commenting because it says I have to add something here.

Large comfortable room. King sized bed was great and good pillows. Nice shower. There is not a full time person there, but one night I apparently dropped my room key somewhere when we were out and after contacting the emergency number, someone brought me a replacement key in less than 5 minutes. Exceptional service. Good location. Could walk to downtown on a nice day if you wanted to (maybe a mile). But we were there in January and didn't do that.

We had a great time at the Blind Tiger! Our room was comfy and well appointed, and the decoration and overall vibe of the place were unique and great. We would have loved for the jets in the tub to be actually working, however we realize the description of the room does say soaking tub. But that was a minor thing, highly recommended and will stay here again.

We had visited the Portland location and absolutely adored the experience. Asheville did not disappoint! If you are looking for inspired aesthetics, kind hosts, great locations, and unique touches, Blind Tigers are for you. This breakfast wasn't quite as mindblowing as Portland's, but the host was gracious to explain the limitations they face and in light of that, it was adequate and still delightful. The Table is SO spacious we were able to crash with 4 kids on various padded spaces with extra pillows and blankets we requested. Their sheets and blankets are divine. Could not have loved it more.

Loved this place & its quirkiness. You definitely need to notice the fine print which I may not have fully but isn’t a true B&B. However, there are plenty of free breakfast continental items and specialty coffees and teas for your enjoyment. Self service what you want and how ever much you want. Snacks and drinks always available. Saw a staff member 1 time in almost a 2 days; however, the modern & convenient text service works fantastic!! I did have to use & got immediate responses. So you feel like it’s your home practically. The bed was super comfy and loved the room. Sink was in the room outside the bathroom which was added quirkiness, but it did have slow backup so we couldn’t run the sink hardly. That was only hiccup which wasn’t a big deal. You are fairly close to things and definitely short drives to others. Would definitely come back!! And a great price!! Free parking!!

This BnB does all the little things right, and that is the difference between a 4 and 5 star review. We even saw a bear in the gardens outside during our stay, so it was awesome! We had room #1 and though it was a darker room with a moody atmosphere, it was perfect for our romantic getaway. We will definitely consider staying here again or checking out the other Lark properties in future travels.

I stayed in Aug 2022. I definitely felt like home away from home. Everyone was accommodating and extremely nice. Very clean and had everything I needed. Great location. Coffee shops a block or so in either direction, one even had live jazz on a Sunday morning! Short walk or super quick uber to downtown. I loved all the period furniture. I will ALWAYS stay her for all future trips to Asheville! Thank you guys for a wonderful stay! ❤️

We stayed in the cottage. Husband and I thought we could live here- everything we needed. Small kitchen included. Could be walkable to downtown if your in shape and walk a lot. (We decided not to walk.) Must mention excellent breakfasts. The chef even gave us some salad dressing to take home when we praised it. It is nice to stay in a convivial atmosphere. Met many like minded travelers. So much better than conventional hotels. (Was disappointed with the gardens. Not in season I guess.)

Staff are incredible and nothing is too much trouble for them. We had a fabulous room and the claw foot tub was lovely to relax in, after wine and appetizers at 4.30 pm, before heading out to dinner. Breakfast is 👌 and it will fill you up and keep you going throughout the day.

Booked through Travelocity and said "Pet Friendly." When I arrived with my dog, they said the room they booked me in was not pet friendly and all other rooms were booked. The women working the desk called the owner and let me know I would have to deal with Travelocity to get my refund. Terrible customer service and left me high and dry with no options. Learned my lesson, book direct or stay at a reputable chain...

We had an amazing experience in our four day getaway to Asheville. So much to do and see. The 1889 Whitegate Inn was a big part of the success. The staff was very proactive in communicating with us to check on dietary restrictions and accommodate our late Checkin. The breakfast was exceptional. A great experience! Location was perfect...1-2 miles for the Biltmore, art district, microbrewery district, water activities and the Omni Grove Inn. They arranged a couples massage which was an amazing experience. Overall, great experience.

Our stay was AMAZING. The house is a beautiful historic home. Our room was the star. Giant room, with sitting area, king size bed, which was very comfortable. The bathtub was so massive my husband and i both fit and looked like children in it lol. 10/10, would stay here again.

Owners & Staff created a great getaway experience. The Cottage and Main House is where we spent our time having breakfast and evening cocktails. Close to Downtown Asheville where we walked to lunch. Only took us 20 minutes and enjoyed the scenery of the Old Town. Great adventure and an amazing place to stay for the weekend. 😊

1889 WhiteGate Inn & Cottage was the perfect location for a romantic getaway. The Inn itself was beautiful but it didn't compare to the impeccable service. Checked in T.V did not work. Had to move all of our luggage to another room. Very old room dirty furniture. Mirror above sink terrible. You could not even see yourself. No bottled water or snacks in the refrigerator. T.V very small and not clear. Kind of snowy background. Just very unclean for paying over $300.00 per night. My suggestion. Find another Bed and Breakfast. Possibly the rooms inside the Inn were nice. Did not see them because we had a small 12 pound dog. They gave us the Dog room. It doesn't matter It could have been nice.

I was traveling on my own and had never been to Asheville before. I found the WhiteGate in to be perfect as it was close enough to downtown that you could walk and the innkeepers were great. Not only did they answer any questions I had but just talking to them and learning about their story made it feel like home. I felt like part of a family. The social hour was very special.

aside from quality ingredients, prep and plating it was just a nice way to start the day. There is an art to hovering over diners and Frank is adept at that art. Compared to our experiences at other BandBs we were disappointed. To recap: No bottled water, no ice, no evening wine/beer/cheese social hour, No storage for our bikes (they have an exercise area, greenhouse, and covered back porch), and we were only couple in the house. We felt some effort could have been made at accommodating our request. Day 1 breakfast all sweets, no protein; Day 2 breakfast - eggs, tasteless sausage, excellent OJ, good coffee and yummy, warm apple pie. Not pleased that the owner, who was sick Day 1, was in the kitchen Day 2 coughing while we had our breakfast. Unsure if he prepared any of the meal, but he should not have been in the kitchen that morning (this while people are sick and dying from the flu). Overall experience was a negative for us.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at the WhiteGate Inn. The staff was extremely helpful with anything we needed, to include recommendations for things to do in the Asheville area. Our fireplace in our room became a daily retreat for us since the weather stayed in the 20's during the day. We will definitely be visiting again and would recommend the WhiteGate in highly!

We were so excited to stay in the heart of Asheville and looking forward to the amenities this B&B offered. The room was indeed beautiful and the location perfect. Unfortunately, our room had some issues and it took a good deal of coaxing and ultimately threatening to leave for our problems to be addressed. Upon arrival our fireplace was not working. Despite much professing that it was working earlier that day, no one was able to actually get it working again. The temperatures dropped significantly on our second day there and we were freezing all night long because the heater was not working properly either. There was a small space heater in the bathroom, but it did not make a significant impact on the overall temperature, nor did it help the freezing cold tile floor or the toilet area which desperately needed insulation. By the third day we requested to be moved to a room with adequate heat. Initially we were told there were no rooms available. By this point we felt that the staff was flat out lying to us. We finally spoke with an owner who apparently knew nothing of our trouble and made it seem like it was our fault for not letting him in on the issues to begin with. Not really sure what the hierarchy is, but I spoke with 3 different staff members about the issues. We were moved to the room next door once it was apparent that he would not be able to fix the heating problems (after being questioned..ahem, accused of tampering with the fireplace.) The new room was warm and comfortable and we were finally able to enjoy the fireplace. The bed, however, was super creaky and bowed in the middle. (sigh) Check out was simple and fast, but the owner had no words of apology. There was a distinct air of annoyance and lack of hospitality. It's too bad, really, because this home is beautifully restored and a lovely piece history.

Tired B&B that doesn't live up to expectations. Skip the afternoon wine/snacks (that is if you there are any left), good luck finding coffee/tea in the morning. Don't ask for milk for your coffee at breakfast if you want to keep the owners smiling. Bad art abounds.
