We loved the location ofthe property. We loved the character of the property as well. The staff was very helpful and nice as well.
- 5/5
Well appointed historic building in great location
- 5/5
Staff was amazing
- 4/5
Everything was fabulous except the breakfast. It was a cold serve yourself breakfast instead of a hot breakfast.
- 5/5
Gosh, what a lovely, clean, charming, inviting place in just the sweetest walkable neighborhood. It smelled good, it had good vibes and everyone was so nice. We stayed in 3b and our only note is I think it might be time for a new mattress. Otherwise perfection.
- 5/5
Beautiful brownstone with welcoming staff/owners. My accommodation was in the condo nearby with a beauty bedroom, sitting area and small kitchen. Great location with easy access to the State Capitol and nearby restaurants. Across from the park too, which is lovely. This is a great place to stay in Albany.
- 4/5
I didn't like the pillows. Too soft.
- 5/5
But the staff is AMAZING (capital letters) One would not be disappointed
- 5/5
There are two buildings, a mansion at 393 State and a free-standing "annex" at 399. The beautifully appointed living room and the modern kitchen/breakfast room are in the mansion. My room was in the annex, a few steps away. It was large and luxurious, with a comfy queen bed, seating area, bathroom with a tub, even an anteroom leading to the bathroom. The kitchen is clearly built to accommodate long-term stays, with a dishwasher, full-sized fridge, oven and microwave. Breakfast, included in the price, offers quiche, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, bagels. Juice, coffee... Lots of choices! And the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I will return.
- 5/5
We loved our visit the exquisite Morgan State House Inn. We stayed in the annexed studio apartment 3 doors down, with a handy kitchenette. The room was immaculate and well appointed with period details. It was still wintery, so we appreciated having control over the radiator (we prefer a cooler room). Continental breakfast in the main inn was simple - the baked goods were so delicious. The staff were kind and helpful. We would definitely book again.
- 5/5
Charming accommodations. Staff was extremely friendly. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Wonderful place in a great location.
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay.
- 5/5
Beautifully restored historic residence and decorated with period detail and a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Nothing
- 5/5
Wonderfully helpful and friendly owners. The rooms are cozy and the whole place is charming. The building is very pretty as well. No complaints and I can't wait to return!
- 4.5/5
The Inn was beautiful and warmly welcoming. Our room was wonderful with attention to detail. Breakfast was beautifully set up and we enjoyed eating at the window seat in the formal (yet comfortable) living room with a nostalgic winter view. It felt like we were in a hallmark Christmas movie!
- 4.5/5
Location, the building, the welcome, the comfort of the annex room Curtains let in the light, bathroom was antique
- 5/5
Fabulous BnB next to the state capital. Beautiful historic home with unique guest rooms. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable. Plentiful breakfast, snacks, and beverages. One of the best BnB's we've ever visited.
- 4.5/5
It was a very comfortable room in a great location in Albany. The internet was really slow.
- 5/5
Very cool house. Amazing character. Great room. Staff only on property till. 5pm though.. parking on street easy to find if parking mid-day. Thanks!!!
- 5/5
Lovely old building tastefully renovated Creaky floor and steep staircases
- 5/5
Super amazing check in process!! Leo was amazing and the hotel is spectacular!
- 5/5
Wonderful stay. Extremely comfy beds. Lovely property and hosts. Great location. Will be back again!
- 5/5
The house is gorgeous. We were in a room in the adjacent building. I would have preferred to be in the main house but the room was nice. The shower could use some updating, but overall a pleasant experience.
- 4/5
Beautiful, unique stay! Gorgeous room, very clean. Private Parking (+$10/day) was very convenient. Communication was a little awkward, know that if you arrive after 5pm there is not someone there for check-in. We were called several days in advance to make sure we were aware, as well as inquired by text as to our eta on the day of arrival. A real breakfast (they do offer fruit, coffee, muffins) would have made this a 5-star stay!
- 4.5/5
Charming historical place in the heart of a beautiful neighborhood. Snacks and grab and go breakfast was a nice touch. Could have used a hand with my luggage up the stairs
- 5/5
This is a unique property, staff is OUTSTANDING.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay at the Morgan house. The main home is more Victorian, but the annex room was very comfortable. The staff was willing to work with us on a late arrival, with no problems. The gated parking was helpful. The area was very walkable, with many shops and restaurants to choose from.
- 5/5
Our hosts were charming and helpful; the location was great, and easy walk to the capitol and a neighborhood filled with restaurants; and it is and right across the street from the beautiful park. Where we stayed in the big. Light-filled art studio with its skylights and many comforts. You have to be willing to walk up a lot of stairs though as there is no elevator. Fortuntely we didn't have too much to carry up. Would prefer an elevator
- 5/5
The historic house is beautiful and beautifully preserved. Our room was large and comfortable with leather armchairs in the bow window. Location is close to State Capitol and Washington park, plenty of restaurants around. The breakfast is great and Chuck and Janine are both charming and made us feel right at home . I would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Staff was excellent and the room was berry lathe and clean. Highly recommend!
- 3/5
We were In this lovely old house, on the 3rd Floor, (without a lift) , in a large room, with beautiful woodwork, (where hot water takes a bit of time to come), and any one coming up or down the stairs makes creaking noises, (which are not music to the ears) along with noisy cars and Bike's outside - somehow, I don't think I shall be going back.
- 3/5
The breakfast was also disappointing. Everything seemed picked up at a grocery store. Some fresh orange juice and baked goods would have gone a long way.
- 5/5
Beautiful restoration
- 5/5
Great location. Close to the Capitol. Lots of great restaurants nearby.
- 5/5
I want to say the Morgan state house is a perfect place to stay especially if you are going to an event at the MVP arena. The walk to the arena is short and very welcoming. The victorian style of the main house is beautiful. The room was perfect with special characteristics that myself personally have not even found at a hilton. The parking was extra but very much worth it for the security of your vehicle. Gated and locked i felt safe with my car being off the street. The welcoming nature of the owners was warming. We did not utilize the outdoor space but by visually inspecting the area it seemed like a very relaxing space to end the day.
- 2/5
Although we like Albany as a starting point for an Upstate New York vacation, the airport hotels are all alike and the downtown hotels are mostly unexceptional. The Morgan State House website made the inn seem like the perfect charming alternative, with a 9.2 rating on hotels.com to boot. The rooms at the inn itself may well be as nice as most reviewers claim. We wouldn't know. What we experienced was the world of antimatter. Like several other reviewers, we were shuffled off to a dumpy old apartment building several doors down. The room, with a teeny bathroom, was ordinary. The majestic view was of other apartments. A morning walk around the block revealed some elegant facades but also a run-down commercial street with many empty storefronts. We had an average, pour-it-yourself breakfast overlooking a pleasant little courtyard. The inn did not appear to have had many guests on that Monday night. We only saw three over the course of breakfast. Looking over the inn's website, one can be forgiven for failing to see the distinction between The Brownstone, which is the 4-floor walk-up inn itself, and The Studios, which are at the drab apartment building and offer an anyplace USA stay. Same for the hotels.com website, where the key word is annex/elevator, which means the apartment building, and walk-up, which is the actual inn where we expected to stay.
- 4.5/5
Great staff, beautiful building, spacious room, great patio and breakfast. Lovely stay.
- 5/5
Lovely folks! Very accommodating. Will return
- 5/5
Only drawback was the staff left at 5 and no way to check in if arriving after 5.
- 5/5
Beautiful old property. Well appointed cozy room with a small kitchenette. Close to the avenue with all the restaurants but far enough to not have any noise. Very accommodating host. Can’t think of anything specifically
- 5/5
So far this place has been outstanding. I highly recommend staying here to anyone.
- 5/5
Beautiful inn
- 5/5
Beautifully restored historical mansion Had to remember which key was for which door
- 4/5
Nice place , especially if you appreciate an older, historic type building. No elevator in the building we were in ( walk up), which was clear when I made the reservation. Due to historic building restrictions, air conditioner was floor model and quite loud. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was quite simple. Nice “backyard “ city patio.
- 5/5
Been traveling a good deal since Covid and this was our best stay yet! Could not have been happier. The suite was so well appointed with every convenience you could desire. From the beautiful antique period furniture, artwork, well stocked kitchenette, architecture, cleanliness and on and on. If you’re coming to Albany be confident choosing the Morgan State House!
- 5/5
This is such a charming Inn! The hosts were welcoming, the common space was lovely, and I loved discovering that it was the long-time home of Alice Morgan Wright, a sculptor and suffragette. The neighborhood by the park and State Street was charming, and I got a great dinner recommendation at a local place. The room was comfortable, spacious, and well-appointed. This was a quick one-night stay in the middle of a train trip to Montreal -- but I wished I could have stayed longer! I will definitely stay here again the next time I am in Albany.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved our stay!!!! Definitely will book again when visiting Albany. Staff were great.
- 5/5
Charming. Beautiful park.
- 5/5
Such a great stay in a house that was lovingly restored.
- 5/5
Just terrific!!! What a kind and caring staff!! Eating in the beautiful garden, sleeping under the skylight in my room, snacks, juice, coffee and tea available at all times... I was on the 4th floor and they carried my luggage up and would have carried it down had I remembered to ask ahead of my 6am departure! Really really love this place!
- 5/5
We stayed in the 2nd property located @ 399 State St. Had a studio w/ kitchenette. Great location and walkable to a lot of stuff. I highly recommend this property.
- 5/5
Oh what a treat! This is a stately old brown stone with high ceilings and gorgeous woodwork. Our room had a bay window overlooking the park across the street. The sun streamed through beveled glass all day. French doors led to a huge bathroom with separate vanities. Staff was helpful and friendly—— helped us fix an iPhone issue so we didn’t have to go to the Apple Store. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and we had continuous access to most of the offerings throughout the day.
- 5/5
It was a great stay - extremely courteous and accommodating. Excellent amenities. I will certainly be coming back.
- 5/5
Take a step back in time when you stay at this beautifully restored mansion updated to be a B&B. Amazing architecture and history that will amaze you. It is very quiet and well located- close to everything. The staff was very helpful and friendly, would definitely recommend!

- 5/5
Such beautiful decor. Very unique and old feel that gave it some charm. Within walking distance of where I needed to be. Had a kitchenette which was helpful and the room was really cute. Wifi sometimes went in and out, but was told to expect that. Really should advertise the hours for “front desk” help on Expedia though. Overall, very nice accommodation and would definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Stunning rooms, very friendly staff
- 5/5
The Morgan State House is a charming stroll back in time. The beauty of the buildings, as well as the craftmanship are on full display. Added to the experience is Washington Park, which sits directly across the street. Its my understanding that the designer of the park also designed Central Park in NYC. The style is from at least 100 years ago, things suck as radiators for heating and small elevators, etc. If that will bother you, then you might want to choose a newly built, high end hotel chain... nothing wrong with them but they do not have the beauty and grace of a historical building. We loved The Morgan State House and hope to have the pleasure of staying there again.
- 5/5
This was our second stay at Morgan State House. The Innkeepers are eager to help and informative about the area. Our room was clean and comfortable. The Inn is central and walking distance to several restaurants and pubs which is great. Definitely would stay again if in the area!
- 5/5
Great property in prime location. Highly recommend
- 4/5
The bed was comfortable and it was clean.
- 3/5
Liked the friendly owners and assistant manager. They were very accommodating and helpful. Stayed in an elevator building a few doors down which helped with carrying our luggage. Apartment was quite dated and needs a a thorough update and peel all the paint layers. Nice views from 6th floor. No ramps so not easily accessible if need be. Lovely seating indoor/outdoor at the Morgan House property and very nice breakfast options.
- 5/5
Loved the history, the architectural features and the ambience of the property. Our suite was extremely comfortable.
- 5/5
Beautiful wood architecture, comfy beds. Gorgeous!
- 5/5
Absolutely loved our stay. The hotel was beautiful. From check in to check out it was outstanding including the staff. We walked to a great Thai Restaurant just down the street that was excellent. Stay at the Morgan you won’t regret it. Fabulous location.
- 5/5
Great location! Walked to MVP Arena and had dinner on the way. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
Location great , interesting historic properties , very decent restaurant scene available within short walking distance ,
- 5/5
It is historic which was exactly what we were looking for. It's a beautiful property though we did not stay in the main residence.
- 5/5
I am coning back soon.
- 5/5
A wonderful stay!
- 5/5
Great place to stay the host were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean great location.
- 4/5
Lovely property. We like trying unique places to eat and shop. We only found 1 good restaurant. We like walking to these. The area close by was pretty shabby.
- 4/5
Cute place for an evening layover on our road trip. Would stay here again.
- 2/5
Beautiful old building. Across the street from a beautiful park. Unfortunately our guest room was in a second building which is also used as condos. Not so majestic, very noisy with street noise and frequent ambulances even from the 6th floor. No black out shades combined for a very poor sleeping environment.
- 5/5
Nice place, garden I was a wonderful retreat and lobby in main house was just beautiful! Friendly staff!
- 5/5
Fantastic property and great hosts. We stopped on route to Boston and this was a great location. Secure parking available if required. Would definitely stop again if in the area.
- 5/5
This is a magnificent use of two old buildings. Location right on Washington Park (a gem of an urban park) is wonderful. Staff is very friendly.
- 5/5
Love the whole staff team! The owner Chuck was very friendly, informative, helpful, and knowledgeable! His team I met John, Jeannie, Leo, and Miranda! They were all very nice!
- 5/5
Excellent service
- 5/5
Beautiful and magical stay in the heart of Albany.
- 5/5
It would have been nice to have a full breakfast at a set time so you could sit with other travelers and share experiences
- 5/5
Like going back in time, but beautifully updated and equipped for our needs today. The owner Chuck, was wonderful. I recommend contacting him directly as opposed to going through a site.
- 5/5
Chuck's hospitality was top-notch, and the breakfast offered each morning was simply wonderful. It’s rare to find a bed and breakfast that offers all the amenities of a branded hotel, but Morgan State House manages to do just that, making it a special and memorable experience. The location is perfect, nestled close to dining options and charming shops. We loved being next to the park, where we enjoyed leisurely walks and even caught some live music in the park. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better stay. 10/10 – we can’t wait to come back!
- 4/5
The property was absolutely gorgeous! I enjoyed my room. The breakfast was the only disappointment. As nice as the experience was overall, I was looking forward to a nice breakfast.
- 5/5
I love this hotel with its boutique feel. Gorgeous garden to sit in and enjoy also. The owners are delightful.
- 5/5
Overall our stay, though only one night was great, from front desk experience to checkout. The place is lovely, clean and well kept. And the muffins were delish. We'd go back again.
- 5/5
Love that this is a historic building; our room was actually a suite with small eat-in kitchen. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.
- 3/5
BTW, the wifi was lousy in the room. It seems it is meant for you to go to the lobby to use it.
- 5/5
The Morgan State House gave us a fabulous location for my medical school reunion. The property is beautiful & historic, and we were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked such that our breakfast and modest lunch needs were covered while we worked on-line before the festivities. I would stay here again in the future!
- 5/5
Great option for a first-time visit to Albany.
- 5/5
Interesting accommodations in vintage apartments. Very friendly staff. We left IPhone chargers in the room. They mailed them back to us.
- 5/5
Excellent location, nice having a little kitchenette, walk in closet, and good space. The management is amazing and friendly. Would stay again!
- 5/5
Just lovely.
- 5/5
We loved the main house, our apartment, and the location!
- 5/5
Wonderful place to stay, especially if you are looking to a uniquely different place to stay other than chain hotels. Highly recommend
- 5/5
Historic briwnstone
- 5/5
Terrific staff, who are invested in the service they provide.
- 5/5
It was a beautiful property
- 5/5
A very special experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Close to restaurants and activities. We’ll be back.
- 5/5
I’ll be looking for excuses to return!
- 5/5
Fabulous location for our quick visit. The owner had many useful suggestions. We would stay again if we’re back in the area.
- 3/5
This is a very interesting and unique place to stay. The location is amazing - overlooking Washington Park, walkable and access to many areas of Albany. A couple of suggestions: the parking lot is a short block from the property which I learned just an hour before arriving. The property address is the place where you check in, which is a brownstone with stairs for entry. Upon checking in I was told I would be in a room 2 buildings down the street, and then given a key chain with 3 keys for access to that building, and the room. Its very much like an Airbnb since the building where I stayed had other occupants (renters, etc.). The room was big and comfortable - a little on the older side but that's not an issue for me. My television did not work - it was a DirectTV (dish) system - and it never worked during my stay. To check out you walk back down the street, ring the bell for assistance and enter that building to check in. Overall, I think this is a nice and unique place with great access - but they need to figure out communication and process a bit more. Older folks with mobility issues would not be a good fit for this hotel option!
- 5/5
What a unique spot to stay in Albany - a lot of character, helpful management, lovely location across from the park and in historic buildings. My room was in the "annex" in an apartment building down the block and, while it is not a fancy building, I was very happy with my room (which was a suite with a kitchen, bathroom, large closet, etc.). I had a view of the park and the decor had some nice, funky touches. My only kvetches would be that while the wifi was strong, it wasn't always reliable - it would drop out at times. And, being an old building, it was a little noisy with "old building sounds" at night (it was winter so probably related to the heating). The included breakfast was not lavish but more than did the job and included some nice options. I would definitely come back.
- 5/5
Lovely stay in a beautiful house! We will be back!
- 5/5
The staff where incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough for me. I will definitely be back. I look forward to seeing you guys on the early new year.
- 5/5
Well appointed historical property next to Washington park and all the Lark street restaurants. Would definitely stay here again. Great, friendly owner. Secure parking a plus.
- 4/5
Amazing location in a lovely historic property. The bed part was great, the breakfast part was underwhelming. My gluten free wife had very sad breakfast options so I walked down the street and picked her up a meal from the Iron Gate Cafe.
- 5/5
Very well maintained historic building. Not so sure I’d want to be walking around neighborhood at night.
- 4/5
This was a nice place to stay! Staff were friendly and helpful. The only issue with our particular room was that the bathroom faucet was so rusted it was nearly impossible to turn the handles. I’d recommend staying here though!
- 2/5
The property was inconveniently located for dining options and parking. We were looking forward to walking the park associated with Inn, however neighborhood didnt lend to a safe feeling. Property is dated and worn. Room doors only had a flimsy lock to secure the door. The Inn appeared to be occupied by long-stay or permanent tenants. The hallway smelled of having a Marijuana grow room nearby. Assuming a room on floor was growing or had marijuana in abdundant quantity. Parking was a block away from Inn, so pack lightly to carry luggage.
- 5/5
We had a fantastic time. The house was beautiful, the room very spacious.
- 5/5
Beautiful place!
- 5/5
The property felt like I was staying in a friend's home.
- 4/5
The service is friendly and accommodating. Property is older and charming - it ranks high as a bed and breakfast type experience.
- 5/5
Very nice place at a great location, with kind and helpful staff
- 5/5
Beautiful B&B, wonderful hosts, and great amenities!
- 5/5
Loved everything about my stay. My room was like a small apartment with separate kitchen, dressing room and walk-in wardrobe. Bed was comfortable with plenty of storage. Charming annexe and the actual State house. Beautiful view across to the park. Hosts were friendly and free breakfast was an added bonus. Buses close by into the city.
- 4/5
If you want to stay in the main old-historic house, which I truly recommend, make a clear conversation with the owner. Do you know the main house belongs to an artist, a political activist, and a women's rights fighter, Alice Morgan Wright? Check it out!
- 5/5
The wifi wasn’t great and had issues with TV but overall it was a very pleasant stay. Note that check-in time is very brief in the afternoon so wouldn’t be a good place to book for a late arrival
- 5/5
Had an amazing stay at Morgan state house. The accommodations were excellent and the service was great too. They had homemade tarts for breakfast!
- 5/5
The staff were amazing and accommodating during our stay.
- 5/5
When you register with the Morgan estate property you are staying in another different property not particularly in that mansion. We parked in one gated area which was nice walk right across the street into the mansion and then we walked to the corner to go to our apartment. So the Mansion runs apartments from a building but they're pretty nice, cozy and quiet.
- 5/5
A beautifully restored home overlooking Washington Park, dating from the gilded age. It has the coziness and charm of that period. The staff is warm and friendly and create a homelike environment
- 4/5
Wonderful room and very pleasant people
- 5/5
The Morgan State House is a find. Lovely neighborhood. Kind and attentive staff. Great rooms. Good breakfast. Lots of history and modern amenities.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful albeit quick stay. Highly recommend!!
- 5/5
Loved everything about this beautiful place! Location and parking was great too! Thanks to our hosts!
- 5/5
Great location, terrific hosts and quite homey.
- 5/5
Albany has terrible parking but luckily we didn't need to use their private lot.
- 4/5
property was beautiful, well maintained, i broke my back in the Marine Corps. stairs were almost too much. im not sure they had a lower level room or an elevator. that was my fault. should have paid attn to the row house concept. im not complaining, the food they offered was very good. i look for properties like this to stay even tho they r usually more than chains... i tend to expect a more homecooked fare at breakfast for the price. thats me. im sure chuck or janine can cook as the zuchinni bread was really good. well located. local restaurant was walkable and very good... dove and deer?
- 3/5
Close to restaurant
- 4/5
We liked the architecture in the neighborhood, and of the state capitol and city hall. The staff at Morgan State was also very helpful.
- 4/5
Cool unit in area of historic buildings
- 5/5
A beautiful old building close to downtown. Spacious rooms with all the amenities. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- 1/5
BAIT AND SWITCH! I have traveled extensively in business and for pleasure for over 40 years and this is the first time I've encountered anything like this. The posting shows a nice brownstone, nice rooms but when we got there they told us our rooms were in the "Annex" five buildings down the street. What they are doing is sub letting apartments in a six story apartment complex for students and seniors and selling them as as rooms in the brownstone. I talked to some of the people in the lobby and they said they lived there, in the apartments. Not only that, but the front desk is only staffed till five and the guys pushed me not once, not twice... but three times... even texting me the day of arrival to tell me I couldn't get in if I was late. Excuse me? Who is paying you for a room? The room was shabby, chipped paint, foul smell, horrible mattress and pillows, and a window air conditioner that made the room smell even worse. When we told the owner we weren't happy, he said " Oh, did you book on Expedia? We give different rooms if you book direct." Don't even think about going here.
- 5/5
Location friendliness cleanliness!
